Rameswaram tourist places
Rameswaram
Rameswaram means "Lord of Rama" (Rāma-īśvaram) in Sanskrit, an epithet of Shiva, the presiding deity of the Ramanathaswamy Temple. According to Hindu epic Ramayana, Rama, the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu, prayed to Shiva here to absolve any sins that he might have committed during his war against the demon-king Ravana in Sri Lanka. According to the Puranas (Hindu scriptures), upon the advice of sages, Rama along with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana, installed and worshipped the lingam here to expiate the sin of Brahmahatya incurred while killing of the Brahmin Ravana.
To worship Shiva, Rama wanted to have a lingam and directed his trusted lieutenant Hanuman to bring it from Himalayas. Since it took longer to bring the lingam, Sita built a lingam, made of just Sands of the shores, which is also believed to be the one in the sanctum of the temple. Sethu Karai is a place 22 km before the island of Rameswaram from where Rama is believed to have built a floating stone bridge, the Ramsetu bridge, that further continued to Dhanushkodi in Rameswaram till Talaimannar in Sri Lanka.
Located in Ramanathapuram district, the town is a part of Pamban Island also known as Rameswaram Island being associated with the legendry temple built in marvelous Dravidian style of architecture. Situated at the very tip of the Indian peninsula, the island is connected with Indian mainland by Pamban Bridge on Pamban Channel in Gulf of Mannar.
A visit to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh is not considered complete in terms of pilgrimage if not coupled with a trip to Rameswaram which is said to be the Varanasi of South. Welcome to the charm that devotees come to associated with an abode of God irrespective of the place it belongs to.
History
The town has been changed many hands; main amongst them were Cholas, Jaffna Kingdom, Allaudin Khilji (Malik Kafur), Pandya Dynasty, Vijayanagara Empire, followed by some other rulers who ruled the town for a very short while before British East India Company directly took over it and made it a part of Madras Presidency.
The Rameswaram Temple which is the main reason the town is known to every other person following Hinduism, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu is said to be built by Sethupathis of Sethukavalan - custodian of the legendary bridge built by Lord Rama when he crossed the sea to reach Lanka (now Sri Lanka) the place in the control of Demon King Ravana, also a Brahman.
Rameswaram is believed to be the place from where Lord Rama started his journey to get his wife Sita back from Ravana and the Lord was helped by 'Vaanar-Sena' army of legendary monkey-humans and served by Hanuman, Lord Ram's paramount devotee. Also, many later versions of Ramayana testify of installing a Shiva Lingam by Shri Ram and Devi Sita to worship Lord Shiva as a part of penance for Brahmahatya - killing of Brahmana, Ravana who was himself a well-known staunch follower of Lord Shiva. The Rameswaram Temple, built in 12th century is believed to have the same Shiva Lingam.
The bridge to Lanka named 'Rama Sethu', also known as Adam's Bridge is of religious as well as ecological importance. Some 30 Km long, it was supposed to be passable on foot till 15th century after which a storm deepened the channel.
 Attractions
Ramanathaswamy Temple:
'Ramanathaswamy' literally means 'the Master of Rama' which refers to Lord Shiva, which the temple is all about. There are two 'lingams' inside the temple; 'Ramalingam' by Devi Sita built by sand and 'Viswalingam' brought by Lord Hanuman from Kailasha (abode of Lord Shiva) and installed by Lord Rama. Temple tanks, hall of 1000 pillars, and several other shrines in the temple attract millions of pilgrims every year, especially during Maha Shivratri.

Pamban Bridge:
Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge which connects the town of Mandapam in mainland India with Pamban Island, and Rameswaram. Opened on 24 February 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010. The rail bridge is, for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double-leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. Until 1988, the Pamban bridge was the only surface transport that connected Tamil Nadu’s Island of Rameswaram to the mainland. In December 2018, the bascule of this bridge was damaged, which suspended transportation on the bridge for 3 months. Rail movement was again restored on 27 February 2019.
In 1988, a road bridge was also constructed parallel to the rail bridge. This road bridge is also known as Indira Gandhi Road Bridge. The Pamban Road Bridge connects the National Highway (NH 49) with the Rameswaram island. It stands on the Palk Strait and between the shores of Mandapam (a place on the Indian mainland) and Pamban (one of the fishermen town in Rameswaram island). It was inaugurated by former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 2 October 1988. This 2.345 km long bridge took close to 14 years to be completed.

The southernmost tip of Rameswaram is known as Dhanush Kodi, where Kothandaramaswamy temple is located. The place was often ruined by cyclones but never displaced a single stone of the temple and of faith, thus. The place is where Vibhishana, brother of Ravana surrendered to Lord Rama. Enchanting location make the visit to the place and the temple as pious as God has made it.
Tirtham:
Various temples were erected to honor those who had a left a lesson to learn from the epic of Ramayana and that includes
 •          Agni Tirtham - A large lake and 22 wells with unique-tasting waters make it an important pilgrim place where they believe to get cured by the curative properties.
•          Ram Tirtham - worshipped by many communities of south India.
•          Lakshman Tirtham - Built inside Rameswaram to give the brother of the Lord the place he rightly deserved helping his brother in the holy war against Ravana.
•          Jatayu Tirtham - Commemorates the memory of Eagle God who assisted Lord Rama in his fight for Devi Sita.

Lord Narasimha as Ganda Bherunada (two-headed bird) is a rare incarnation of Lord Narasimha  and is mainly worshipped in South India. Gandabherunada, or Gandha Bherunda Narasimha, is a combination of bird and animal with two heads and   manifested from Lord Narasimha  . Ganda Bherunada incarnation was answer to Lord Shiva’s Sarabha form.Ganda Bherunada  also sometimes manifests 8 faces and 32 hands Ganda Bherunada is not mentioned in the Bhagavad Purana but is mentioned in the some regional scriptures and in some Puranas.   Lord Vishnu took the form of Narasimha (half-man half-lion) to annihilate   Hiranyakashipu. But after completing His divine mission, Narasimha could not control His anger and turned to destroy the universe. Lord Shiva took the form of Sarabha to pacify Narasimha. But Lord Narasimha took a more terrible form of bird-animal with two heads – Ganda Bherunda. An idol of Ganda Bherunada is worshipped at Sri Yadagiri Temple near Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. There is a sculpture of Ganda Bherunada at Balligavi town in Karnataka. We can see how the sage Yadava was worshipping Lord Narasimha under the direction of Hanuman. Here is something of importance about Hanuman and Lord Narasimha.   Hanuman chanted the name of Narasimha when fighting the Lankini demon on his way to Sri Lanka to find Sita, this is mentioned in Ramacarita Manasa Sundara Khanda Hanuman has one head of Narasimha when he is Pancamukha The origin of Sri Panchamukhs Hanuman can be traced to a story in Ramayana. During the war between Lord Rama and Ravana. Ravana took help of  Ahiravana   who was the king of Pathala and his other brother Mahiravana .   Hanuman in order to protect Lord Ram and Lakshman formed a fortress with his tail. Ahiravana took the form of Vibeeshana and took Lord Ram and Lakshman to Pathala loka while they where sleeping. Hanuman entered Pathala loka in search of Rama and Lakshmana, He found out that to kill Mahiravana and Ahiravana he had to extinguish five lamps burning in five different directions at the same time, so he has taken the Panchamukha form with Hanuman, Hayagriva, Narasimha, Garuda and Varaha faces and extinguished the lamps and killed Mahiravana and Ahiravana . According to Hanumath Prakaranam in Sri Vidyarnavatantram, Anjaneya has five faces (Pancha Mukha) and ten weapons. The five faces are that of Lord Hanuman, Lord Narasimha, Lord Adivaraha, Lord Hayagriva, and Lord Garuda. Panchmukhi Hanuman Stuti The Panchmukhi Hanuman Stuti is a potent stotra meant to praise each of the five forms. This stotra helps to alleviate troubles and keep evil forces away. It serves as a protection to devotees who chant with utmost faith. “Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya poorva kapi mukhe Sakala shatru samhaarnaaya swaaha” Meaning : ‘The east facing form of Lord Hanuman protects devotees from problems caused by enemies. He provides happiness and fulfills wishes.’... “Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya dakshina mukhe Karaala vadanaaya Narasimhaaya sakala bhoota praeta pramadanaaya swaaha” Meaning : The south facing form of Lord Narasimha removes all types of fear, sins, unfavorable influences of spirits and demons, and fulfills our wishes. “Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya paschima mukhe Garudaaya sakala visha haranaaya swaaha” Meaning : The west facing form of Lord Garuda removes all types of ailments, negativities, black magic, poison, and fear. “Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya uthara mukhe Aadivarahaaya sakala sampatkaraaya swaaha” Meaning : The north facing form of Lord Varaha provides the ashta aishwarya (eight different forms of wealth). “Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya oordhwa mukhe Hayagrivaaya sakala jana vasheekaranaaya swaaha” Meaning : The upwards facing form of Lord Hayagriva helps devotees attract the goodwill of people. The words of His devotees turn into reality. He bestows them with advancement in seeking knowledge, good company of friends, intelligence, good children, and salvation

Perhaps thats why these people has special grudge against medieval Rajput kingdoms of India. They prevented their ancestors from converting to Ielam by delaying Islamic conquest not for decades but for centuries. 4/n http://pic.twitter.com/rKmXh1yfG7

1500 Year Old Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir in Karachi, Pakistan.
**************************
1500 years old Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir located at Soldier Bazaar in Karachi is one of the oldest hindu temples in Pakistan.
The temple holds special significance for Hindus as it is the only shrine in the world which has a “natural statue” of Hanuman that is not man-made.
The blue and white 8 feet statue was found many centuries ago at the place where the temple now stands; it bears all five aspects of Hanuman : Narasimha, Adivaraha, Hayagriva, Hanuman and Garuda.
It is believed that such naturally-formed idols of deities possess exceptional power and appear to bless worshippers.
Upon entering the temple, one is struck by the intricately carved yellow stone structure in the middle of the temple premises.
This temple’s renovation work has started in 2012 and to preserve the look of the temple, its original yellow stones are being used to rebuild the arched walls.
The small front porch has pillars of carved yellow stone on either side with a black and white marble floor, a wide passage for clockwise circumambulation (parikrama / pradakshina) runs around it.
It is believed that completion of 108 rounds around the chambers, cleanses all pain, evil and adversity, making this temple a citadel of healing for all castes and creed.
This is one of the few hindu temples in Pakistan to survive the onslaught on temples in the area that followed the demolition of Babri Masjid in India.
Multiple communities like Maharashtrians, Sindhis, Balochis visit this temple.
Such sites represent vestiges of ancient lore in Hindu mythology, they also stand like warriors of Time; pitted testaments of a peaceful, pluralistic past.

24-01-2017 3° giorno: CHENNAI (MADRAS)-KANCHIPURAM-MAHABALIPURAM-AUROVILLE BEACH-PONDICHERRY
