This book has my heart.
I really liked reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and I've written a review about it. Check it out (and the book itself too, if you're interested, and if you know a friend who might enjoy this book, please do share with them.)
Happy reading!

Iā€™m sorry but the people who read Addie Larue and walked away saying she had no depth or no motivation or wtf ever lack basic reading comprehension skills. The book literally mentions multiple times that she is operating on pure spite. There are multiple times she wants to give in but doesnā€™t because there is more beauty to be seen and more ways to make Luc mad about the fact that she wonā€™t give in. ā€œShe never does anything important.ā€ Girl is literally fighting the ocean alone. No one can remember her, but she still wakes up and gives her heart to people who see her as a stranger. Over 300 years and she doesnā€™t stop trying to experience love and happiness. God, you must be so miserable and end result motivated to not see how good this character is.

i feel like people completely misunderstand addie. like no, she didn't fight in a war or do something so drastically incredible with her life, she spent her time trying to leave a mark on the world - but isn't that what so many of us long to do? writing "___ was here" in concrete, posting things on social media, creating businesses that will hopefully out-live us. people seem to limit her to the bland storyline and 'pick-me-ism', and that's a valid opinion, but i disagree. life itself is not going to always be exciting. what addie does is continue to live, not just survive, ignoring the hollowness that could just as easily swallow her up. she romanticises her life, that is true, but what is wrong with that? she is making the best of the bad cards she got dealt. she can still appreciate the art in the world, she can still enjoy the sunshine and good food and lovely music. she did not let bitterness suffocate her; she made a life out of it

Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964)
"Miriam? He really... isn't here, is he? Just now, I thought I heard... sometimes at night, when I wake up, it seems as if he really is here. Don't turn on the light. It's not real when it's light. It's only real when it's dark - dark and still."
#hush...hush sweet charlotte#hush...hushā€š sweet charlotte#robert aldrich#1964#american cinema#lukas heller#henry farrell#bette davis#olivia de havilland#joseph cotten#agnes moorehead#cecil kellaway#victor buono#mary astor#wesley addy#william campbell#bruce dern#george kennedy#frank ferguson#frank de vol#Aldrich's follow up to Baby Jane reunited him with star Davis (and initially Crawfordā€š until she left the project under a cloud; she can#just about be glimpsed in one of the long shots of cousin Miriam arriving at the house by taxi) and even provides a cameo for Baby Jane co#star Buono. the rest of his cast is also notably starry: de Havillandā€š Cottenā€š Mooreheadā€š even a genuine cinematic legend like Astor not to#mention a pre fame Dern and Kennedy. sadly all that increased star power doesn't translate to a film even better than its predecessor#this is solidā€š a strong and sweaty gothic grotesquerieā€š but it's a little flabby and nowhere near as sharp or as honed as Baby Jane was#Davis often goes very large and brushes caricature more than once with her faded Southern belle but to give her her dues there are other#moments of true heartbreaking beauty in her performance. de Havilland is also very strong altho maybe tips her hat a little soon in#revealing the true personality lingering beneath the surface of her mysterious outsider. Aldrich is as strong as ever helming a killer#fantasy sequence... tbh the more i think about it the kinder my memory of this becomes. it has just one main flaw and that's that it isn't#Baby Jane. but then what is? Aldrich never quite hit those heights again (tho he did some p great work) and this is a commendable try

Am I the only one who thinks that if Henry hadn't killed Bunny, Bunny could've maybe grown into a better human?
Like, I know he was homophobic and sexist but people change. I think Bunny had a lot of potential for change.

months ago, when I had just started the invisible life of Addie Larue and it had been more than 100 pages since nothing had happened, I spent my days cursing Ve Schwab. Now, with 20 pages to go, I find myself with an almost obsessive desire to read all the books she has written and get to know her characters to the bone.

i remember people being mad about the fact that addie larueā€™s whole shtick was that she wanted to travel the world and explore itā€™s art and culture and when it came down to it, she just went to europe, north america, and like two other placesā€¦ mate, sheā€™s a white french woman from the 1600s, of course she thinks europe is the only cultured place in the world. did you want her to take up kathak dancing in bombay like wtf did you expect?
