Acrisure Insurance Will Be A Thing Of The Past And Here’s Why | acrisure insurance

A medical billing firm based in Michigan is suing the state's Department of Health and Human Services, claiming the agency does not have enough oversight over a contract it has with an acrisure insurance company. A separate entity is getting involved with the case, as well, and given that a public agency is handing over almost a half-billion dollars in taxpayer funds to help with the lawsuit, it is almost certainly going to come out on top.

The medical billing service was established in 2020 after the state's Democratic attorney general sued the Department of Health and Human Services for failing to oversee a new company that was set to offer health care services to seniors. The company went under in a matter of months, and the state stepped in to rescue it with $1.5 billion in federal funding. But in addition to getting the money, the state also put a cap on how much it could spend on the company's profits.

It is hard to believe that the state would allow a medical billing agency to work with an insurance company that didn't pay its own taxes and didn't even keep accurate records of all of the Medicare beneficiaries it served. But when a patient gets treated through an acrisure clinic, he or she may be subjected to a lot of needles and other equipment, sometimes while being monitored by staff members who do not have a license to practice medicine. So the state's lawsuit is a very good sign.

As the suit points out, the Department of Health and Human Services was supposed to ensure that the acrisure insurance company was in compliance with federal health care laws, such as ensuring that staff members were properly licensed and that it provided its patients with safe and effective care. Instead, the agency has allowed the company to get away with a lot of problems and make a lot of money, all of which is now coming its way thanks to the state's lawsuit.

The state's attorney general is looking at this case as part of its broader investigation into how the state's largest provider of health care is paying its vendors, as well as whether or not the Department of Health and Human Services can protect itself from fraud and other abuses. While the case itself is important, it may not be able to prove that the state department has done its job properly and find out whether or not the contract between the state and the insurance company violated the health care reform act. passed by the Obama administration.

In the meantime, though, the state's lawsuit is a good reminder that no company is beyond reproach, and that government agencies need to step in when things go awry. If this case is successful, it may become easier for people who are concerned about the quality of their healthcare to sue companies that they feel have failed to uphold their end of the bargain.
