Together At Lastâ
Word Count: 3,971
Status: Requested!
Ask: Can I have Chris Chambers x reader with the prompt  "You're different and I like that"
@: @micheleamidalajediâ
A/N: I absolutely LOVED this request because I was able to put myself into the Reader and prove that not everyone is the same, female, male, or nonbinary, or all of the girlypops!
Relationship: Chris Chambers x Merrill!Reader
Fandom: Stand By Me 1986
Summary: Itâs been 5 years since the disappearance and eventual death of Ray Brower, and youâre each reaching graduation. However, another adventure arises and brings all 5 of you back to the woods to find Teddyâs dog. The problem? Almost all of you have either grown apart or split completely, and old feelings seem to resurface with unresolved conclusions. What could go wrong?
Warnings: mutual pining, adventure, confessions, AGED UP!, friends to enemies to lovers, some angst, nostalgia, lost friendships, gained friendships, Teddy is a brother figure to Reader, gun, unintentional intent to kill someone, strong language, Reader is Ace Merrillâs sibling,Â

Your landline rings, deriving you of your thoughts and current intensity studying for finals. Groaning, you shrug out of your seat at the kitchen table begrudgingly, answering the phone. âHello?â
âY/N? âS that you?â a familiar voice, deepened with maturity and hormones asks on the other side.
âYeah, what do you want?â
âNice to know you havenât changed,â you can hear the voice taunt annoyingly.Â
âItâs been years since Iâve talked to you, did you expect a âHey, whatâs upâ?â
âI would have preferred that, yes, but no. This is serious, and I really need you on board with me this time.â
âThis better not be one of your schemes, Teddy, Iâm not up for anything right now,â you sigh, âIâm up to my neck with textbooks and shit with studying for the finals and stuff. Dadâs been on my ass about getting into a college since Iâve been able to hold a B+ to A average.â
âDamn. Sorry to say I canât relate?â
You giggle, sighing as youâve missed him. You couldnât quite tell what happened to cause you to separate, but as if you had just blinked, everyone was gone and you were left to yourself and school. âAlright Teddy, what bullshit are we pulling now?â
âGlad you asked!â he all but yells in happiness, âMy dog went missing a few days ago and I havenât been able to find him all over town. I know this sounds childish, but I swear, Iâve walked the whole town everyday at dawn before school and havenât been able to find him.â
âSo, youâre guessing heâs in the woods?â you groan, remembering the haunting history youâve witnessed first hand in said territory.
Thereâs a long pause before he lets out a low, â...Yes...â
âWhat did the others say?â
âWhat makes you think I asked them?â he tries to sound as if heâs not that easy to read; a âchanged man.â
âBecause I still know you, or some of you. Thereâs no way this is going to be a one night thing and we need more sets of dependable eyes.â
âWell, now youâre making me sound smart.â
You giggle, âIâm not gonna keep beating around the bush Teddy, Iâm in as long as the others are?â
âYes!â he shrieks.
...
A few days later, as instructed by Teddy, you carry your sleeping bag, flask of water, some snacks, and money (something you all collectively forgot last time) to the dumpsters behind the townâs cafe. Trudging around the corner, your breath catches in your throat as you lay eyes on the back of three familiar heads and a face, each people you thought you have grown so far apart from.
âY/N!â the voice of the face coming from Teddy.
You nod silently, leaning against the brick building as you keep your distance.Â
The three boys that are now men, turn around to take you in, eyes wide.
You wave nervously, age and distance having changed all of you and making you feel as if you donât know these people.
Teddy still had his familiar square-shaped, black glasses, but his hair is cut to fit the armyâs conduct, shaved short on the sides around the back, the top of his head a bit longer. There was just enough hair for Teddy to comb it back with gel just as he had as a preteen - before you all turned away to seek your own lives. He grew a bit taller, standing at 5â˛5âł, but not by much. You giggle internally.
To the far left, you see Gordie and your heart breaks a little. Heâs still lean in build, but heâs grown to be tall and confident, around 5â˛11âł - 6â˛0.â To you, he hasnât changed a bit, except personality. He still had his longer hair, possibly longer than you remember it, with the same hairstyle and familiar baby face, though slightly aged.Â
Next was Vern, and he was so big now. He managed to drop the weight, a lean build of muscle standing above 6â˛0âł and carrying his dopey grin with longer hair - a similar style to Gordieâs, though unintentionally. You smile at him. Heâs still a sweetheart, but more like a big, lovable Chocolate Lab now.
Lastly was Chris, and he was still as gorgeous as ever. He came to be of above average height, 5â˛10,âł grew his hair out longer and adorned circular glasses that framed his face perfectly. His eyes carry no emotion, a contrast to his younger self, but theyâre still that luscious deep blue. He looks you up and down in silence before staring you directly in your eyes. You can feel your heart break all over again.
You didnât realize how long you were staring at each of them before Teddy clears his throat. âShall we?â he tries to smirk, but the tension is thick.Â
You hug your arms around your abdomen as you nod, plastering a smile of your face as you force yourself to stand beside the now men. Slowly, everyone starts to follow Teddy until you reach the tracks.
Some time later, as you walked on the tracks, you lagged behind. Now, with this view, you could see where everyone had changed, but not as much as you thought. Gordie and Chris got to talking amongst themselves far in front of the group, Teddy and Vern behind them. Theyâre all too busy catching up for them to notice your inner turmoil.
You almost want to cry. You donât know any of them anymore. This was a fact that your younger self wouldâve never expected or taken a liking to. You think of what your younger self would do, punishing yourself for what you allowed to happen.Â
You wouldâve called them repeatedly, tried to make plans or catch up to them in passing to classes. All of this you could pride yourself on saying that you did, but then Gordie went the way his father wanted him to go, Chris becoming an athlete while trying to follow Gordieâs brains, getting into law, Teddy trying to apply and reapply to the military, and Vern taking a liking in the construction trade.Â
They all grew up, and though you couldnât blame them, they slipped out of your hands far too quickly and suffered the backlash. Girls in school are bitches, and though you have friends, they arenât like the ones before you. Even after all this time, they are still considered exactly that - friends, family even.
You went your own way, too, after giving up on them. You found an interest in engineering and found that itâs not exactly as you suspected. It wasnât all math and physics and you deeply enjoyed the creativity and problem-solving it included. You have some fond classmates there, but they would never compare to these boys.Â
You are ripped from your thoughts as you hear the loud blaring of a trainâs horn. You smirk at the memory that crosses. Calling out to Teddy, your voice is loud enough for all of the boys to hear, âSound familiar, Teddy? Weâre not gonna go diving for you on the tracks again, right?â
âFuck off,â you can hear him giggle, jabbing Vern in the side.Â
All the way in the front, you can hear Gordie add, âOr have to break you and Chris up, huh?â
You giggle at the reminder. That was the time when you were all trying to figure yourselves out without guidance, restrictions, stereotypes, and parents. Teddy had a lot of trouble then.Â
Your smile drops as the group goes quiet again, the nostalgia dying with the connection that almost rekindled. You groan audibly - unintentionally.
The boys look back at you curiously, surprised just as much as you were.Â
You decide to take the initiative, âIs this what weâre going to do the whole time? Act as if weâre strangers and not speak to one another?â
âWe are strangers, Y/N,â you hear Chris state with indifference.
You catch up to the group and walk between them, âThereâs a reason we all came here and I know we all hoped to be together again. It doesnât help when you donât even try to speak to us though, does it?â
The group stops as Chris spins around on you. âWhy would I? After this, we are all gonna go our separate ways and avoid each other again,â he growls and spits, âJust like last time.â
âThen, why did you come?â you ask, your curiosity getting the better of you and asking the question you were all wondering yourselves. âWhy are we all here?â you look around at each of them.Â
âBecause I missed you guys,â Vern pipes up, the first words heâs spoken the whole walk from town.
âWe wouldnât have missed each other if we had just kept our promises, would we?â Chris asks, frowning with his eyebrows scrunched together and arms crossed tightly over his chest. It almost resembles hatred.
And it makes you livid. âYou broke your promise, too, Chris,â you vividly remember the promise you made just short of town on your way back; the promise that meant the world and more to you - it still does. âWe all did, but at least I can say it wasnât intentional. I tried to reach out to you guys, but we were all growing and changing. I canât blame you guys, except you, Chris.â
âMe?â his voice reaches higher as the time passes by.
âOh please, we all know you went from a street rat like us to the high priest and prince of school,â Teddy adds.
Chris scoffs, crossing his arms, âGordie?â
âI mean, you did drop us after you got with Stephanie Wheeler,â Gordie deflects, shrinking in size as he knows the blows coming next. He adds, âThe rich bitch of high school whose daddy is the principal.â
âThis is bullshit, I shouldâve never decided to come,â he shoots daggers at you.
âYouâre right, you shouldnât of because we all know that youâre embarrassed of even being seen with us,â Vern adds, caution to the wind.Â
Chris scoffs again as he takes up his bag, starting back to town.Â
âSo, youâre just gonna leave?!â you scream as he creates distance.Â
âI fucking knew it!â Gordie screams, grabbing his bag as well to follow Chris on the opposite side of the tracks.Â
You watch with pain as each of the boys start back to town. All except Teddy, who manages to stand there with teary eyes.Â
âI just wanted us to enjoy the time, find my dog, and hopefully have one last high school hurrah before we are all forced apart,â he sniffles.
You look at him with matching sadness, âI-Iâm sorry Teddy, I didnât mean to act out like that. I just couldnât stand another minute, let alone night, with no one planning on speaking to each other. It would have all been for nothing. Even if we had found your dog, we still wouldâve hated each other. This is my fault, Teddy, Iâm sorry.â
âItâs not, Y/N, it was gonna happen eventually,â his eyes watch them go, but the look in his eye is distant - his mind far beyond where theyâre heading.
âWe can still look for Butch together?â you manage to smile, tears brimming your eyes.
âI donât feel like it anymore,â you can visibly see his body deflate.
âWell, can you at least stay? If thereâs still some shred of them left, I think theyâll come around again. I still want to rekindle our relationship. Iâve missed you so much, Teddy,â by the time youâre finished, fresh tears are starting to roll down your cheeks.
Teddyâs voice cracks as a tear slips down his cheek, too, opening his arms to pull you in for a hug beside him on the grass.
You smile thankfully as you lean in, sighing at the comfort and history.
âIt ainât going well with my Pops, as youâd assume. Heâs still a crazy bastard, but Iâm sticking with him. Just for a little longer, as long as I can.â
âUnderstandable. We canât forget your ear, can we?â
âWhatever,â he smirks, âWhat about you?â
âMom and Dad still fight. If they arenât fighting, neither of them are home to ensure that they donât have to fucking see each other. Ace is still a prick, too. I wouldnât expect him to graduate and still stay in this bum-fuck town.â
âGuess he doesnât want his reputation to be forgotten,â Teddy giggles.
âGuess so,â you trail off, noticing the sun starting to set and the sky change color. âYou think theyâre coming back?â
âNo, but I can hope.â
You look up at him sadly and nod. âWanna set up camp for the night anyway?â
He nods silently, taking up his sleeping bag and finding a soft spot to lay out in the grass.Â
Silently, you follow his lead, walking down the side of the tracks to the opening of the trees, laying your sleeping bag just beside the first tree, hidden under the canopy of leaves. He decides to go in a little deeper, a few feet away from you, protected by the dimmer lighting in a proactive attempt to block the harsh sun thatâll come in the morning.
Sighing, you both settle in, staring at the sky. Before you know it, your miniscule, unimportant chit chat with Teddy dies down and sleep overtakes you swiftly. Thereâs no dreams as you toss and turn, but your glad thereâs no deeper thoughts thatâll plague you and leave you wide awake.
You donât know how long youâve been sleeping until the soft snapping of twigs perk your ears, harshly throwing all of the sleep from your fogged mind and automatically putting it into defensive state.
Peaking around with your eyes, you catch a figure some ways to your left, walking away from your temporary camp. By the distance the figure has created and the direction of their walk, you can tell they were either walking through or around your huddle, no doubt near your camp regardless.Â
You flip onto your belly as silently as possible, hand sliding slowly to the underside of your pillow, fingers touching cold metal. You pull the gun from under you, the uncomfortable and foreign weight of it settling in your hand, bringing more unease into your heart and bones.Â
You lift yourself up slowly, noticing that Gordie and Vern have, in fact, returned and settled in a circle with you and Teddy. However, there is no sign of Chris, not even a bag.
You let out a slow breath to try and calm your racing nerves as you follow the figure, gun raised and aimed at the black figure. You gain on the figure silently, until your foot makes a horrible crunch as it breaks the branch beneath it. Cursing under your breath, you raise the gun in defense, both hands grasping and eyes trained.
The figure spins around, voice accusatory, âWhat the f-? Hey...â the voice lowers instantly, hands coming up to show they are unarmed. âHey, Y/N, put the gun down,â the voice registers in your head as the figure emerges from the darkness and into the glow of the moon breaking through the trees.
âChris?â you groan, lowering the gun instantly, shoulders dropping. âWhat the fuck were you thinking? Sneaking around in the woods? You know the way I sleep, man.â
âKnew,â he clarifies, âAnd, I was just going for a walk to clear my mind.â
âWhy do you keep doing that?â you ask with a creep of annoyance settling in, pinching the bridge of your nose with your fingers. âWhy do you keep acting like youâre camping with strangers? Like you have absolutely no knowledge of who we are?â
âBecause I donât; I donât know the people you have all become now. Even if there are slivers of the people I knew that show every now and then, they are no longer the people they were nor who they are now,â he steps closer to you, enough to reach out to you if he wanted to.
âI canât say that we are who we were because thatâs impossible, but we are still those loving people we were. Iâve noticed that Vern still carries a comb and is a little sensitive. Gordie is still quiet and finds meanings in everything. Teddy still has such and undoubted devotion to his father and his infatuation with the army. I still bother the shit out of everyone and parent them as a way of care. But you,â you pause, assessing him as the sadness settles in your voice and heart again, a cold shock coursing through your veins, âI can only see a person in front of me. You look like Chris, you still have that leaderly inclination, but besides that, everything has changed. Even your eyes have a different look to them, yet they are still that same pair I last looked at 5 years ago.â
Chris says nothing, his mask fitting into place and revealing nothing to you - it doesnât even look like any of your words are reaching him.
âYou keep acting like everyone here is out to get you, but we are simply just being ourselves. You see us as enemies because we had a falling out, but thatâs natural. We changed - you changed - and you want to blame us for something that was out of our hands. We are still here for you Chris, Iâve always been here,â your voice is cracking as you look down at your feet, kicking some leaves and twigs to divert your attention somehow.Â
A hand reaches beneath your chin, tugging your head up to look into those sapphire irises once again. âYou were never my enemy, you were my greatest fear,â Chris says, a pitiful grin pulling at his lips. âYou know why I chose to become better? Why I went out with the cheerleaders, tried out for football, worked hard to get into the smart kid classes?â
âW-Why?â you look at him, pain and confusion streaking your E/C eyes like lightning in a storm.Â
âBecause I knew that if I stayed where I was, I would never be able to give you what you wanted - never been able to give you everything you deserved. At first, I distanced myself because I thought I would never be good enough for you; that distance was what you needed and for me to get out of your sights, so that that better man would show up and lift you off your feet. But, you were insistent,â Chris giggles sadly as his mask starts to fall, his eyes showing the same pain and suffering that reflects off of yours. âI chose to blame you for the pain of losing you, so you would never look at me with those eyes again; never show me this source of genuine love that was undeserved and unfair.â
âBut, you promised me that we would be together forever?â you question, a tear slipping from your eye as you stare at him with the newfound information. Pain of losing him, sadness of bringing such turmoil and insecurity to himself, suffering from the rift that couldâve never been, and regret that if you had known, this would have all been avoided as a whole.
âI know I made that promise, and Iâm the worldâs biggest hypocrite and idiot. It doesnât matter how far away weâve become, you can still manage to look at me with that undeserved care?â he mostly questions himself as his eyes search all over your face, both hands cupping your face in his hands.Â
Your hands go up to hold his wrists, looking at him with such longing. âYou deserve the world, Chris. You always have and always will. You are too pure for the hand you were dealt, and yet you still push yourself farther above.âÂ
His eyes round and snap to yours with confusion and disbelief, searching you for some sort of trick. âIâve always loved you, Chris. No one has ever made me so damn pissed off or more loved with just one look or action. It doesnât matter who Iâve used or dated to temporarily distract me, Iâve always worried and searched for you. Youâve always been in the deepest part of my brain. I-I still love you...so damn much.â
âYouâve always been different and I like that. Youâre the biggest pain in my ass, but my greatest mistake. I love you, Y/N,â Chris smiles, a genuine display of delight and content as tears slide down his cheeks with the relinquishment of pain and torture. Heâs waited too damn long for this. âIâve always wanted to do this,â he smirks devilishly, eyes delving to your lips and up to your eyes before he leans in.
Your chapped lips meet his fresh, plump ones, smeared with chapstick with the taste of lemon. Your hands goes up to tangle in his long, blonde locks as his arms reach down to your hips to keep you tightly trapped against him; like he fears that if he doesnât hold you tight, youâll slip away like every dream heâs ever had of you - his greatest happiness.Â
You pull him in just as tight, arms around his shoulders as your hands tug, fearing the feeling of losing him again. When you part for air, you still never let go of each other, your head ducking in between the crook of his neck and shoulder. You breathe in his scent and save it to your memory as a smell you hoped to never forget or live without.Â
âWell, itâs about damn time! God damn!â Teddy yells from his cross legged position on his sleeping bag.Â
Gordie and Vern start to whoop and holler from their comfort of sleeping bags with deep pleasure and happiness.Â
âI knew you guys would make up eventually,â Vern added with a soft giggle.
âI was starting to miss my parents,â Gordie chided with a roll of his eyes.
âDoes that mean we can all be friends now?â Vern adds with a playful glint in his eye and you couldnât help but giggle.Â
âI mean, I guess I could, yâknow, hang around a while,â you tease, earning a shove to your side by Chris as you both walk back to your seats on your sleeping bag.Â
That night, you all stayed up late trading stories of what youâve missed within the short time away from each other, and for once since the start of your adventure, you see the benefits of their changes.
They arenât the same people you once knew because they are now their best versions, and will continue to change for the many years to come. Itâs only up to you guys to keep that connection strong and adapt with them that will keep you all bound together forever.Â
It was your greatest promise, but thereâs been a few changes:Â âNo matter how far away we are nor how different we become, we will always find a way back to each other. Friends forever.â
You and Chris made your own promise, too:Â âWhatever happens, we will learn to overcome together, forever and always, in love and sickness, at the best and worst moments. Lovers forever.â

Broken Barriers
Ace Merrill x fem!reader
WARNINGS : Swearing, but other than that just full on fluff
NOTE : Hi it's me again! This is my second fanfic on this blog, and I just wanna say that I appreciated the people who heart and reblogged my first one, really means a lot to me more than anything even if only a few people followed me. Again if I missed anything ( grammar, spelling, etc. ) please let me know! Also yeah it's kinda short again so apologies for that!
------------------------------------
It was a Friday afternoon, and you and the cobras were chilling out in the fields after a long day of causing trouble and chaos around Castle Rock, you sat on the car's trunk and took a sip of your drink as you watched the boys do their own thing. Ace sat beside you smoking a cigarette while having an arm wrapped around you and his thumb gently caressing your shoulder, you hadn't noticed his deep gaze on you until now.
"Hold on you've got a strand of hair on your face" he takes that same strand of hair and tucks it up behind your ear and places both hands on the sides of your face. "Beautiful.. " he whispers, this caused your face to turn a bright tomato red as a smirk spreads across Ace's face.
Normally he wouldn't have been this clingy and affectionate with you especially when he had to uphold his whole bad boy persona, I mean he did have a reputation to keep ( and by that I mean being a rebel or a menace to society ) . But since you guys were in an empty field with the whole cobra gang he didn't see it as much as a problem, they would've teased him for sure.. But they knew better than to mess with Ace.
The sun started to set and everyone had to go back to their humbled homes, and like the gentleman that he is Ace offered to drive you back just to make sure you 'didn't get murdered' or something, it was kind of funny but you knew he was just looking out for you.
Eventually, you both arrived at your destination and sat in silence, you turned your head to face him when suddenly he pulled you in for a kiss. He placed his hand behind your head as he pulled you deeper into the kiss, it was rough yet passionate, and it gave you a warm feeling inside.. Feeling of comfort and neediness..
You slowly pulled away having both your lips apart, staring into each other's eyes once more. "Can't you just stay at my place for tonight? You can make up some excuse to your folks about having a sleepover with a friend." Ace said as he still held your face, "You know I can't do that Ace, besides I got some chores to do, plus my dad is starting to suspect something." you said.
It wasn't a lie though that your father had started to get suspicious about you hanging out with Ace, you knew your dad hated him and at a given moment he would've marched out of the house with a shotgun. But Ace didn't give a shit, he wanted you and nothing else.
"Well that's a shame, we would've been able to cuddle up on my couch.. Or maybe a little more than cuddling.." He whispered out the last, you smacked his shoulder playfully as you scolded him "Ace you fucking perv!".
He chuckled and pulled you back in for one last kiss, though this time it was shorter as you pulled him away breaking the kiss. "Alright Romeo I think it would be best if you get going, we don't want my parents coming out of the door and seeing your car parked in front of our house, especially us making out in it. " you said as you pecked him on the cheek.
As you got out of the car and made your way to your front door you turned around one last time to see Ace giving you one of his charming smiles and drove off, it was a perfect timing though seemingly that your parents had sensed your arrival and opened the front door revealing you.

Ace Merrill Dating Headcanons
- Credit to the gifs owner - Requests open -
Masterlist Navigation
⢠Ace would show you a side to himself that he would never dare show to anyone else, especially not the people he hangs around with. Deep down heâs sweet and gentle, but still comes across as quite rough due to not being used to being such a way. It takes a while, but eventually your gentle and caring nature rubs off on him and subtly makes him a better person.
⢠When the two of you first start dating, he very much tries to show off in front of you (that is, until he realises that you absolutely hate how he behaves while doing so). Heâs reckless and shows off by being very dangerous - while getting himself and others hurt in the process. The darkest parts of his personality come to light during this time and itâs only when you manage to wait out this phase that you eventually get to see his genuine self afterwards.
⢠He always remains jealous, and it doesnât matter if who (he could literally become jealous of any of his friends being around you or even a child that youâre offering help to). But this is mainly because he isnât used to being a part of or even seeing stable relationships around him. Itâs only after heâs been with you for a while that he starts to realise that his past perception of being with someone was completely wrong.
⢠At home with you he was always already very hands on, but once the two of you are quite committed he genuinely starts to turn into a family man. Heâs always loved the idea of being a part of a stable family, one of his own, and so as soon as you give him the opportunity to do so he gladly takes it straight away. Heâs rusty at first, but just like all other things heâs passionate about he learns how to carry things out successfully very well quite quickly.
⢠In whatever car he ever owns, you always have your own seat in the front - that no one would ever be allowed to sit in. No matter how many of the guys are in his car at the time theyâd still never be allowed to take your seat. Eventually he gets so used to it being claimed by you in his mind that if someone else sits there he sees it as an extremely bad omen and a form of betrayal on his behalf. It makes him guilty for a reason he canât explain deep down.
⢠Ace would actually be quite affectionate with you in front of his friends, and absolutely sees no problem with it and would never get embarrassed. He sees you as his girl and youâre something he gets to show off as no one else could ever get a girl as amazing as you are. It feeds his ego that out of everyone you decided to stay by his side, and he very much likes to rub it in his single friends faces that heâs got you.
⢠Meeting your family gives him extreme anxiety, which he very much canât help. He knows that he isnât from the best of families or the best background and he doesnât want to disappoint your family because of it, or let them think that you could be doing better with someone else. He always puts in as much effort as he can and dresses himself very clean and tidy just for the occasion he finds so stressful - on days like this itâs as if heâs a completely different person.
⢠No matter how long the two of you have been dating he will always love to spoil you (even if you hate or love it, heâll do it either way). Every time he sees a little something that reminds you of him he just needs to give it to you, and the things he knows that you donât necessarily like but still remind him of you heâll keep to himself - sometimes to keep in his wallet or in his car. Youâre eventually given so many little things by him that you could form your own tiny museum, and after a while you start to forget where and when he gives you everything.

No Good
Masterlist
Pairing: Ace Merrill x Chambers!Reader
Word Count: 3.8k
Notes: Iâve been sick lately, so you know ya girls been binging all her favorite comfort movies. Every time I watch Stand By Me I think to myself âI need to write for Ace; the love of my life.â And now here we are.
This uh...this got kind of heavy for a minute there. It's angsty that's for sure, but I mean we get some good fluff at the end? So...yay?
Let me know if youâre interested in any more Ace fics! â¤ď¸
Warnings: Mentions of abuse
"Thatâs enough Ace!â You yell as you run across the street. âLet him go!â
Ace Merrill, local gang leader and world-class jerk, was currently pinning your little brother to the ground.
âAw, how sweet--is big sister here to rescue you?â Ace taunts your brother as he holds a lit cigarette up to his face.
âBeat it y/n; this is none of your business.â Richie, your older brother, says as you approach.
âOf course it's my business when your friend is threatening our little brother!" You snap. "Now get off him Ace! I'm not kidding around here." You warn, looking down at the blonde. He smirks.
"Oh yeah?â He says, standing up to look you in the eyes. âYou gonna do something about it sweetheart?" You stare him down as Chris, now free, jumps up and goes to stand by his friend Gordie. Ace smirks as you glare at him, and you roll your eyes as you turn to your brother, checking him over for any injuries.
"You okay?" You ask, hand going up to push back the wisps of hair on his forehead as you look over his face for any cuts or burns. He quickly pushes your hand away.
"I'm fine y/n, stop fussing." Chris says, though there isnât much fight in it. You sigh as you look down at him, looking far more mature and world-weary than any 12 year old should. Your concern for you brother ebbed, it was quickly replaced with a tide of anger. You put your hands on your hips as you turn to Ace and Ritchie.
âUh oh Eyeball--I think sheâs mad at us.â Ace jokes as Ritchie laughs. You scowl.
âWhatâs wrong with the two of you, huh? Do you get off on picking on a couple kids that canât fight back or what?â You ask as you scowl at them.
âListen Y/N, my friend here was only politely askinâ Chris to take back an insult he so rudely threw Ace's way. Thatâs all.â Richie replied, smirking as he places his arm on Aceâs shoulder.
âYou know you should really teach that brother of yours some manners y/n.â Ace adds with a smirk.
âThatâs bullshit!â Chris says behind you, and you turned to look at him. âI called him an asshole because he stole Gordieâs hat!â You turn back around and see the hat in question, now sitting on top of Ritchieâs curly head. âGordieâs brother gave him that hat! They can't have it!â Chris adds, and your frown deepens. Everyone knew what happened to Dennis Lachance; that hat probably meant a lot to his little brother.
âEyeball, did you see me steal anything?â Ace asks Richie with a smirk.
âNo way Ace--the kid gave it to you.â Ritchie responds.
âThatâs a lie!â Gordie yells as he stares daggers at Ace.
âThis is ridiculous; just give the hat back Ritchie.â You say as you move to take the hat off your botherâs head. Ace snatches it before you have the chance.
âNow hold on a minute,â Ace says as he holds the hat up just above your reach. âThe kid gave me this hat--itâs mine, fair and square.â
âStop fooling around and just give me the hat Ace.â You say as you jump up to snatch it from his hand. He moves it away from you at the last second as he smiles. He leans forward, invading your space.
âWhatâll you give me for it?â He asks, looking you over with his icy blue eyes. You glare back at him.
âYou know damn well I donât have anything to give you.â You say, annoyed beyond the point of caring about manners.
âOh--hardly ladylike of you y/n, cursing at me like that.â Ace replies sarcastically.
âShut up and just tell me what you want.â You shoot back. He laughs.
âFeisty as always I see.â He smiles. âI like that.â He holds the hat out to you. âGo out with me tonight and you can have it.â The two of you stare each other down, while Ritchie looks over at his friend in surprise.
âHey come on Ace--thatâs gross man, sheâs my sister!" Ritchie says, looking horrified at the idea.
âDonât do it y/n--who knows what heâll do to you.â Chris pleads behind you. You and Ace ignore them as you glare at him and he stares back with a crooked grin on his face.
âFine.â You agree.
âY/N!â Chris exclaims in shock. Ace's smile widens with satisfaction.
âBut you give Gordie his hat back now.â You add.
âIf I give the kid the hat now, how will I know youâll hold up your end of the deal?â Ace asks.
âUnlike some people, Iâm not a liar.â You say. He stares back at you, before laughing.
âAlright, deal.â He says, offering you the hat which you quickly grab from his hand. âIâll pick you up at 8.â He says as he turns to walk away; Ritchie looking between you and Ace before he runs off to join his friend.
You glare at their retreating backs until they turn the corner. You turn to Chris and Gordie, both of them looking at you mournfully. You smile at them, offering the hat to Gordie.
âHere, I think this is yours.â He looks down as he takes the hat from you.
âYou didnât have to do that.â He says as he hugs the hat close to his chest.
âYou know usually, when someone does something nice for you, you thank them.â You say, smiling as you lightly ruffle his hair.
âR-right. Sorry--I mean, thank you.â He says, putting the hat back on his head with a small smile.
âWhat were you thinking y/n?â Chris cuts in, clearly upset. âYou know what that asshole could do to you?â He asks, looking at you with concern. You just smile back.
âYou donât have to try and protect me Chris--Iâm the big sister, remember?â You remind him. âListen, donât worry about Ace; I can handle him.â
âBut--!â He tries to argue.
âThatâs enough now.â You cut him off. âIâm a Chambers--weâre made of tougher stuff, right?â He sighs, looking at the ground.
âYeah.â He agrees, before lifting his head. âJust promise me youâll be careful.â You laugh.
âI promise.â You say. âNow, it looks like you two have somewhere to be.â You say, eyeing their sleeping bags. âGo have fun, and donât worry so much.â
You watch them leave as Chris waves back at you. You return the wave, watching them until they were out of sight. The boys no longer visible, you let out a long sigh.
You pinched the bridge of your nose, wondering just exactly what youâd gotten yourself into, before turning on your heels and heading for home.
It was all well and good to say you that youâd be fine--it was another thing entirely to actually back that up. You'd know Ace for a long time, and while you didn't think he would do anything to you, there was always that lingering chance you were wrong.
--
That evening you lie to your parents and say youâre going with a friend to the movies, before leaving to wait a little ways down the road. You didnât even want to think about what your dad would do if he found out you were going out with a boy--especially one like Ace.
While you're thinking about the potential consequences of getting caught in a lie while also being out with a boy, the boy in question pulls up next to you on the street. Surprisingly, he's on time.
âSo excited you couldnât even wait inside, huh y/n?â He asks with a smile. You roll your eyes.
âCute.â You reply sarcastically as you get in the passengers seat. âYou know my dad; he would kill us both if he saw me leaving with you.â
âHe could try.â Ace jokes, though you had a feeling it was said more genuinely than he let on.
âLetâs just go before anyone sees us.â You reply.
âYes maâam.â He says, driving off into the night.
--
Neither of you say much on your way to the diner. Your thoughts drifted between how much trouble youâd be in if Ace didn't get you back at a decent time, and thoughts of Ace himself. Youâd know him for a long time--before he was Ace. Back then he was just John; the troubled kid from school your brother palled around with.
You were younger than Chris is now when you'd first met him. You were shy as a child, and you didn't understand why people treated you differently. Now you know of course--everyone knew the Chambers were a bad family. So there's no way your deadbeat dad could raise anything but deadbeat kids. The three of you were bad seeds going nowhere fast. As far as Castle Rock was concerned, you were all no good.
Since good mothers didn't like their kids hanging around with anyone from the Chambers family, you never did have many friends growing up. Instead, you followed Ritchie around like a duckling; despite his constant complaints about it.
And that's how you met Ace. He and your brother constantly picked on you or would leave you behind when they ran off to play, but you didn't care. You would take anything over being alone. And sometimes, in those rare moments when you and Ace were left alone together, you saw a different side of him. When he wasn't trying to act out for his friends, when he wasn't showing off or acting tough. He was almost vulnerable then, a bit unsure of himself, and more than anything you remember how sometimes, he could even be kind.
The moments were always so few and far between that every time it surprised you; that he could be nice to someone, and that the someone was always you. You wondered sometimes if anyone else had ever seen that side of him, or if those fleeting moments of sweetness were reserved just for you.
Now more than ever you wondered if that side of him was still buried somewhere inside him, or if he'd let it die along with his name--strangled down deep in the darkness of his heart.
--
You pull into the diner, the lights from it's neon sign washing the parking lot in a soft, red glow. Ace parks his convertible and a carhop quickly comes out to take your orders before hurrying back inside. Ace pulls out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from the top pocket of his shirt as you turn to him.
"Okay, what's your game?" You ask point blank.
"What do you mean?" He asks back, pulling a cigarette from the pack and placing it lightly between his lips before putting the pack away. He lights it, quickly snapping the lighter shut as he takes a long drag.
"I mean, what are you trying to accomplish from all this?" You throw your arms out to vaguely gesturing around you. "Because if you think you'll be getting anything from me tonight you've got another thing coming." Ace throws his head back as he laughs, the cigarette glowing faintly between his fingers.
"I'm serious--I know you Ace Merrill, and I know when you're going with a girl you're only after one thing." You say as you look over at his profile. He takes another puff from his cigarette, slowly blowing out a cloud of smoke. He smiles at you as he ashes over the side of the car.
"Well damn, it sounds like you got me all figured out sweetheart." He says, smirking as he turns his head to look at you. "And yet you still agreed to come out with me tonight, so what do you know about that?" You scowl.
"I was coerced and you know it! Like I'd willingly agree to go out with you." You huff, crossing your arms as you slide down in your seat.
"Ouch--that's not a very nice thing to say y/n." He says sarcastically, still smiling.
"As if you have any room to talk." You snap back. "You're a jerk to everyone you meet."
"Funny, I don't recall ever being a jerk to you." He responds. You open your mouth to argue, then stop.
When was the last time he'd actually been mean to you? Had he ever, really? Sure, there was his general abrasive attitude and his sarcastic jokes--but had he ever, genuinely said something meant to hurt you?
"See, you can't think of anything. Admit it, I have always been good to you." He says, a triumph grin on his face.
"Good might be an exaggeration--and anyway that hardly matters. You not being a total jerk to one person doesn't change the fact that you're a bully to everyone else." You counter, sitting up as you speak. "I mean, just look at how you were treating my brother today!"
"Listen, the kid's gotta learn sometime how harsh life is; I'm doing him a favor teaching him how the world works." He says, flicking the butt of his cigarette out into the parking lot.
"A favor?" You repeat. "All you're doing is making life harder for a good kid who already has it hard enough." You slump back down as you sigh, looking down at the dashboard. "Trust me, he doesn't need a lesson about how hard life can be." You say more to yourself than to him.
Ace eyes you from the driver's seat, but before he can say anything the food arrives and the moment passes.
You eat your burgers and fries, talking about nothing in particular. Ace is his usual, rough self, but you grow a little more comfortable as you talk. Mostly you bicker back and forth, the whole conversation one small argument after another. Still, it wasn't an uncomfortable atmosphere to be in.
You talked to Ace less now than you did as kids, but you fell back into step like you still spent everyday together. His usual goading and pestering, and in return your typical annoyed response. Maybe you seemed like you weren't enjoying the conversation, but in truth you didn't mind. If anything, as much as you would hate to admit it, you almost missed talking to him like this. Not worrying about his gang or your brother or whatever anyone else thought about it.
Just two old friends talking like they'd never lost touch in the first place--though you'd sooner swallow your own tongue than say any of that to his face.
--
After you finished eating Ace told you he wanted to take you somewhere. You were a little worried about the time--or where in God's name he was planning on taking you--but it's not like you really had a say in the matter. Ace pulled out of the diner and headed out of town without a word of input from you. He soon turned on a country road that started to go up, and before you knew it you were parked on a cliff side out in the wilderness. From your spot above the world, you could see the lights of Castle Rock surrounded by a blanket of darkness.
You scowl over at Ace.
"Are you serious? I told you--"
"Just shut up and get out of the car, would ya?" He says, jumping out the side of the convertible. He moves around and grabs a small metal cooler from the floorboards behind the driver's seat. You watch him suspiciously as he heads to the front of the car, getting up to sit on the hood.
"You coming or what?" He asks, looking back at you as he sets the cooler down.
"Fine--but you better not try anything funny." You warn, getting out of the car. You hop up on top of the hood, cautiously sliding up to the back. You pull your knees up and wrapping your skirt around your legs, hugging them to your chest.
"Relax already. If I was gonna try something I would've done it in the car." He tells you as he opens the ice chest to grab a beer. He pulls out a Swiss Army knife and opens it up, using the bottle opener to pop the top off the bottle. He offers it to you, and--after a moment of contemplation--you slowly take it. He quickly works on getting himself one as you take a sip.
He takes a swig of his beer as he looked out over the scenery in front of you. It was a nice view. The two of you sat for awhile, just silently enjoying the scenery while you drank.
"Nice view, huh?" He says absently after a long while.
"Yeah, it is."
"Reminds me just how small this town really is." He takes another drink from his beer as he talks. "Can you picture being somewhere like New York City? You could go all the way up in the tallest skyscraper they got and look out, and you would still never see the end of it. Can you imagine living somewhere that big? Where no one knows you?" He asks.
"No, I can't." You answer honestly.
"There's trains that can take you further and faster than any car, boats that can take you around the world, and now they got planes that can fly you through the sky." He takes another drink. "All that, and I'm still gonna die in this shit town." He says, looking out over the lights of Castle Rock with contempt. You look over at him, staring quietly at his handsome face. You knew what he meant, how he felt. You felt it too.
"You don't have to. You could leave, go someplace else. Somewhere new." You say. He laughs through his nose.
"Yeah, go where?" He asks.
"Anywhere." You reply. He smiles, though there's no humor in it.
"Let's be real y/n; some people just weren't meant to leave." He finishes his beer as he smirks. "We both know the only way I'm getting out is behind six feet of concrete or laying six feet under--whichever comes first." He throws his bottle hard, and it disappears over the side of the rocks down into the trees.
You had never heard him be so introspective before. Then again, you felt similar. You were sure a lot of kids from Castle Rock did, but none of you talked about it so openly like this.
"Things don't have to be that way." You say quietly. "You could change--try to be better." He laughs.
"Yeah, sure. I'll get right on that." He replies sarcastically.
"You could!" You say with more force. "I have!" You say, turning away. "I mean, I'm trying." You say, sighing. You take a long, full drink of your beer, tossing the bottle out into the darkness.
"You think I want to be stuck here forever? Just to end up like my mom? Married to some piece of shit who beats me when he's angry, and he's always angry." You start to tear up, but you keep going; your eyes looking down at you knees. "Too afraid to leave, too afraid to stop him from taking it out on our kids. Always afraid, always hurting--miserable until the day I die. And then I still won't escape because they'll bury me in the dirt of this town where I'll be trapped forever, and a tombstone will be all that's left of me. The only reminder that I lived and died here--and for what?"
There were tears running down your face, which you quickly whipped away with the back of your sleeve. You looked back over at him, his face was a mask, hiding any hint of emotion.
"I refuse to let this place swallow me whole. I don't care what they say about my family--I'm going to be better. I'll get out of here even if it kills me, and then no one will tell me I'm no good ever again." You say with more resolve. He looks over at you for a long, quite moment, then cracks a smile.
"Listen, you point me to the assholes telling you that, and we'll just see how good they are at name-calling when they've got broken jaws." He jokes. You can't help but laugh in spite of yourself.
"You see? That's the kind of thing that's gonna get you in trouble." You reply, smiling over at him. He shrugs.
"What can I say? A tiger can't change his stripes."
"Tigers are still just cats you know. Yeah, they're big, but they're only fierce when they need to be. And just like house cats, they can also be sweet." He laughed at that.
"Yeah, just imagine me--sweet."
"You could be, if you tried." You say, smiling at him.
"Oh really? But I thought I was a jerk? Or was it a bully?." He says as he smiles over at you. You playfully punch his arm as he laughs.
"You are a jerk and a bully." You reply. "But I also know you can be nice if you really wanna be."
"Oh yeah? That's something you know, huh?" He says, leaning in a little. "And who exactly do I got to be nice to?"
"Well, you could try being nice to me." You answer.
"So, how exactly would you like me to be nice to you?" He asks, looking at you with a playful smirk.
"You could start by laying off my little brother and his friends." You say sweetly. He throws his head back as he laughs.
"Oh is that all?" He asks, looking back down at you. "And what exactly do I get if I do?"
"You're not supposed to expect a reward for being nice." You tell him. "But," You pause as you lean a little closer. "If you're nice to me, maybe I'll be nice to you." He smiles, his eyes glancing down to your lips.
"Oh, so that's how it's gonna be, huh?" He asks.
"Mhmm." You smile.
"You drive a hard bargain sweetheart, but," He leans forward. "You got yourself a deal."
You smile and close your eyes as you feel his lips meet yours. His hand moves up to cup your cheek as he deepens the kiss. Your heart was pounding like a drum in your chest and for a few, sweet moments, everything else disappeared. It was just you and Ace--no Castle Rock, no worries about the future, just the two of you together. Strange how a kiss with the right person can make you see stars, when all you saw before was the darkness.
You pull back and look at him.
"I mean it about the kids though--we're over if I find out after all this that you've still been giving them a hard time." You say. He rolls his eyes.
"Yeah I get it, I promise--now quit harping and come here." He said, pulling you to his chest as he leaned down to kiss you again.
You weren't sure what the future would look like for you or Ace; but you knew right here, right now, this is exactly where you wanted to be.

Hi! Enemies to lovers prompt n. 23 (you recently broke up with your partner...) for Ace Merrill? I'd be curious to read Ace offering himself to the reader, but the other way around is fine as well.
Have a good day, and thank you!
I hope I managed to do this alright!đ
I Don't Do This Very Often.
Ace Merrill (Stand By Me) x reader
Warnings: NSFW, smut, swearing, mention of cheating
Masterlist
I nearly shut the door as soon as I've opened it, growling in irritation as a foot is shoved in the way.
"The fuck do you want?" I practically spit through the gap, eyes narrowed at the blonde in the doorway.
"I want you to let me in." Ace replies coldly, wedging his foot harder into place.
"Dream on." I scoff, slamming the door against his shoe in an attempt to get him to leave.Â
"Let me in, (Y/n)." He tries again, pushing his hand through to grab hold of the wooden barrier, "I know what happened. I know what he did to you."
My jaw clenches, a wave of anger and grief washing over me at the reminder of my cheating ex, my grip loosening briefly on the door, allowing Ace to push it in.Â
"So what? You've come to torment me?" I mutter, not quite decisive enough to be angry.
"No." He states, pushing himself through the door, closing it behind him.
I frown as I look at him, but he only returns my gaze with an icy stare, an odd hunger lingering in their clear depths.
"What are you doing?" I step back from him, only to yelp in surprise when he suddenly grabs my waist and pulls my body tightly against his, face close to mine, lips mere inches away from my own. Somewhere, a primal desire flares to life inside me, concealed emotion giving it fire as it spreads through me.
"Don't take this for granted, (Y/n)." Ace warns lowly, his voice deepening, "I don't offer this very often."
Still confused, I try to think straight, knowing full well that I can't with his familiar smell clogging my nostrils.
"Do what you want with me." He leans close to whisper this, pushing his hips into mine to emphasise his point.Â
There's absolute certainty in his voice, and as I hear it, all rational thought leaves me.Â
With a desperate sigh, I reach up and yank his head down to mine, our lips crashing together messily in a battle of tongues and teeth, years of pent-up emotion and frustration flooding across the connection. His hands move rapidly over my body, feeling over and groping my every curve, pushing and pulling at my clothes, his hips bucking roughly into mine, drawing needy sighs from me, which he swallows. It doesn't take long for his tongue to fight it's way into my mouth, but I push back, and he lets me, allowing me to explore his mouth as he tears my shirt open.Â
Pulling away, I swiftly tear his, yanking it down his lightly toned arms with no further ado, shoving myself as close to him as I can, pressing my body to his muscular torso. I decorate wet kisses over his exposed skin, sucking and biting harshly here and there, leaving give marks everywhere for others to see. Under my touch, the blonde youth groans and bucks, grinding the hard ridge of his arousal into my crotch, his teeth matching onto my shoulder. Breathing heavily, I remove myself from him, ignoring his momentary confusion as I pull him roughly over to the sofa, pushing him down on it.Â
As I climb onto his lap, his hands go straight to my ass, kneading it roughly to pull me flush against his lap, lips returning to my neck until I grab his hair and jerk his head back. Growling, I lick and suck at the exposed skin, biting a deep purple mark into the pale area over his Adam's apple, grinding down on him as I do so. Desire courses through me, pleasure and need setting fire to my every nerve, pushing me to quicken my movements. Leaning back, I hear my shirt from my body, doing the same with his, before leaning back to wrestle my trousers and underwear from my figure. Completely naked, I gesture for Ace to do the same.
He does so, blue eyes roaming over my form hungrily, ravaging me with his gaze, hands reaching out to pull me back down on his lap. Already, his cock is standing up against his stomach, red and leaking as he bucks his hips into mine. Biting my lip, I reach out and take it in hand, roughly jerking it off, watching as his head falls back, a chorus of pleas mixed with my name dripping from his lips, precum soon flowing over my hand. It doesn't take long for him to stop me, his cock looking painful as I loosen the ring of my fingers around him, moving to slide it over my clit instead.Â
We both moan, the broken, needy sounds reflecting our desperate hunger for each other, our hips bucking into each other. I get up onto my knees, using his shoulders for support as he helps me slowly line his cock up with my throbbing pussy.Â
I can't help the strangled whine that escapes me as I sink down onto him, my walls clenching around the thick girth of it, the delicious stretch setting fire to the pleasure in my body. He doesn't stay still for long, bucking into me until I start to lift myself from him, thrusting my hips back down onto him. Moaning loudly and brokenly, I fuck myself on him, enjoying the slide of his cock in and out of me, making obscene sounds as I bring myself down on him.Â
Leaning forwards, I connect our lips in a filthy kiss, our tongues tangling messily with each other, moans and groans swallowed in the sloppy connection. Saliva coats our lips as we briefly pull away for air, eyes blown and staring at each other.Â
I move faster, feeling his cock starting to pulse inside me, his sounds getting louder as he quickly approaches his orgasm, hips moving more erratically now. Noticing this, I fuck myself faster, more roughly, quickly bringing myself to the brink. I reach down, my hand pressing over my clit with fervour, the pleasure of which suddenly throws me off the edge of sanity, my orgasm exploding through my body like white-hot fire. I scream in pure ecstasy, rocking myself over Ace until I'm too sensitive to continue, falling into his arms as he cums too, the thick substance coating my stomach as he swiftly pulls out. The blonde youth groans loudly, holding me tightly against him, teeth finding my shoulder yet again.
It takes us a good few minutes, but eventually we regain our composure, at which point I'm near certain hell up and leave me here, exhausted, blissed out and covered in his cum. I'm surprised when he doesn't, instead taking his shirt from the floor and wiping me down with it, before laying back against the sofa, pulling me into his arms.
I go willingly, enjoying his company for once.Â
"That guy is dumb as fuck if he thinks giving up a fuck like that is a good idea." Ace grouches, tracing a pattern over my skin.
"Thanks." I roll my eyes, blushing at his indirect compliment.Â
"Anytime." He responds, reaching over to the coffee table for a cigarette from my pack, taking one out and lighting it.Â
Together, we sit there and smoke, inhaling the sharp cloud from the end of the cigarette, slowly relaxing into each other's company.

Cuz I wanna
Ace Merrill x reader
Summary: Ace hits on you lol
Warnings: swearing & alcohol
You've lived in Castle Rock your whole life and you know the little business that all the shops and diners get, So they'll take anything they can get.
You went to the bar downtown today. You were supposed to meet with a friend, but they didn't show, which they either ditched you or got busted at home. Either one was possible.
You were sitting up at the counter, glancing at the clock every few minutes or so, waiting for that bastard of what you call friend. By this time, you had ordered yourself a drink, the cheapest thing you could get. Even though the sign outside clearly stated ' NO MINORS',you were able to get in and order a drink, no ID needed.
You sighed as you swished around the dark liquid in your small glass, waiting. Your gaze went back to the clock again, you turned around as you the jingle from the door being opened. You rolled your eyes as you saw Ace Merrill in all his douchebaggery. You quickly looked back at your drink. You had once been friends with that asshole , in grade school before he became a complete dickface.
"Well, look at what we got...the biggest bitch in the county, Y/N." Ace snickered as he walked behind you and leaned against the counter top, looking at you with his shit eating smirk. You scoffed and looked him up and down.
"Whatever you say, Johnny." You said as you took a sip of your drink
"Don't call me that or I'll feed you to the coyotes." Ace chuckled as he pulled up a stool and sat beside you. "Now , tell me, why is Y/N sittin all alone?'' he asked as he chewed on that stupid toothpick.
"Well, I was supposed to be here with F/N (FRIEND'S NAME), but I guess they ditched me." you said as you flashed a small smile.
"Wouldn't blame them." Ace snickered as he looked at you, his eyes heading South.
"Eyes up here, Merrill." You snapped as you push his head up, his only response was a chuckle followed by a smirk.
You two talked for a few more minutes before the rest of Ace's gang showed up, them laughing and being the hoodlums that they are. Of course they went quieted as they saw Ace talking to you. You didn't hear, but Fuzzy whispered something to Vince, probably about you.
"Can I fucking help you?" Ace asked with sternness, his eyes darting to his group of buddies. They didn't say anything back and quickly got drinks and set up a game of pool.
"Hey,um, Ace, wanna join?" Charlie asked with slight shakiness in his voice, it was rather awkward, he even looked at Billy.
"Not this time." Ace said as he grabbed the toothpick out of his mouth , examining it before flicking it in the trash.
You scoffed slightly and shook your head. "Why not?"
"Cuz , I wanna talk and get to know you." Ace said with his stupid smirk with an added wink.
You gagged in response.

If you want out just say it
(Not my gif)(requested via message)
(Ace Merrill x reader)(warning: cursing, angst-with a happy ending, not the greatest portrayal of what a relationship should be like but this is Ace weâre talking about)
You should have never dated that asshole. You should have never looked at his stupidly handsome face or into those beautiful eyes. Should have never even entertained the idea of being with him; him a liar and a cheat and a going nowhere nobody that wasnât worth a sliver of your time. You shouldnât have done a lot of things with him; you shouldnât have ended up in his bed, shouldn't have kissed him, told him you loved him when he couldnât even say it back.Â
You should have listened to all of the warnings. Youâd gotten your fair share. Your parents, your friends, hell even the Chambers kid that hung around him; you should have believed them when they told you he was no good, that he would use you and kick you to the curb. How could you have been so stupid? There had been so many warning signs and yet you ignored them all because you loved him. God, the thought made you want to puke, you were truly pathetic. Well not anymore, not after today.
So here you were, walking and blinking away the tears that blurred your vision and threatened to ruin your makeup. You couldnât have that, you couldnât let everyone see that they had been right, let him see that you still cared. Youâd rather die than admit that youâd been wrong all along, that youâd been stupid and careless; that you were just another girl that that dirt bag had tricked and used.Â
Oh, Ace Merrill was an asshole and worst of all he didnât know when to just give up. That was one of the most infuriating parts of all this, the fact that he was still trying to pull you back in. You could hear him trailing behind you even after youâd ignored him, refusing to speak as you stormed away from him. He was still trying to apologize, giving you those pitiful half assed lines that only a man like him could pull out after messing up so bad.Â
âYou werenât supposed to hear that.â He muttered and the overwhelming urge to punch him right in his lying teeth came across you.Â
âYeah? Well here we are.â You replied bitterly.
âOh, come on, like I really meanât it? Listen, I would have never gotten them off my back if Iâd told them some sappy shit.â Excuses, excuses. It always had to be someone elseâs fault, or it was his reputation, his ego, that little voice in his head that gets high off being in control. Youâd hated it, you always had, how he couldnât just own up to what heâd done.
âSo Iâm supposed to forgive you because it was all just a front for your gang? The gang that you are supposed to be leading?â He said nothing, your blood boiled. âYouâre a coward Ace, always have been, always will. I should have never wasted my time on a piece of garbage like you.â
âDonât you fucking talk to me like that sweetheart.â You stopped walking and turned towards him.
âIâll talk to you however I fucking want,â you hissed. âItâs over Ace. Iâm done with you.âÂ
With that you turned around and continued walking to the small house you shared. You flung open the door and headed to the bedroom to pack your things.Â
*****
Youâd stumbled across the boys on accident while they were sitting in one of the towns back alley parking lots. One of them noticed you and decided to ask Ace about you; who knew why. You werenât sure whether he thought Ace would have said something relatively nice for him or if he knew what he was going to say was nasty. You could never trust the boys in his gang, you never knew who wanted to hurt you or not.Â
âSo Ace... whatâs with this y/n chick?â One of the cobra boys had asked eyeing you from where you stood a little ways away from the back of Ace. Just in the range of hearing.Â
âWhat about her?â Ace had replied taking a swig from his beer.Â
âWell what is she to you?â Eyeball had asked this time although you werenât sure if he had seen you or not. You were almost sure he hadnât. He worshiped Ace, he never would have purposefully and so boldly messed something up for him.Â
âA good fuck. Thatâs what she is.â Ace chuckled and you could feel your cheeks flush in both embarrassment and anger.Â
âCome on Ace, you must like her. I mean you live with her?â Eyeball once again spoke up.
âShe lives with me, so what? Sheâs a good lay and I can have her any time I want with her staying at my place. Why are you guys on my ass about this?â He furrowed his brows before he finally turned upon hearing your rough footsteps knocking across the pavement as you stormed off.
*****
You heard the door open and Aceâs footsteps as he walked to the doorway of your bedroom. Out of the corner of your eye you could see him lean against the frame seemingly unfazed by both your previous outburst and your current actions.Â
âBabe what the fuck are you doing?â He muttered as he lit a cigarette.
âDonât call me that,â you said moving to grab your makeup from the bathroom. âIâm packing my stuff, Iâm leaving.âÂ
âOh come on,â He scoffed, following behind you and standing in the doorway of the bathroom. âI told you it was just talk with the boys. I didnât mean anything by it.âÂ
âDonât care. Everyone told me all this shit about you Ace. And they were right. They were so right. Youâre a womanizing asshole that only cares about getting his rocks off. If you wanted out you should have just said it, you should have just owned up and told me what you wanted from the start,â You turned and looked at him seeing the glare on his face as you walked towards him. âNow move.âÂ
âHow fucking dare you.â He growled, you just rolled your eyes and pushed past him moving to your bags. He followed behind you, yelling out after you as you continued packing all of your things.Â
âThey donât know shit about me! How are you gonna act like you donât know that I love you. Just cause I donât fucking say it? That doesnât mean shit. I donât want out, Iâve never wanted out. My boys donât need to know about you and me or how I feel about you; thatâs between you and me. But donât for a second think that I donât care about you.â He growled, moving next to you as you stuffed your things into your bag. Every time you put something in he took it out until you looked at him with tears of frustration and hurt in your eyes.Â
âCome on babeâ he spoke quietly, his hand gently gripping your arm and turning you so that you were fully facing him.Â
âYouâre pathetic.â you growled, voice raw with emotion as you pushed past him and walked out the door. You werenât going to fall for his lies anymore.Â
*****
Itâd been a week since youâd spoken to or even seen Ace. You were staying at your friends place, too embarrassed and scared to return to your parents house after everything that had happened which led you to stay with your now ex boyfriend; if you could call him that, in the first place. You were sure that Ace was looking for you, several of your friends had called or came to see you telling you about how he had called them or stopped them on the street. Thankfully, even after youâd borderline ditched them for half a year they still cared about you and didnât spill anything to the intimidating individual.Â
Youâd managed to retrieve most of your belongings. Youâd had time to learn when heâd be home and when he wouldn't so you could avoid him easily now. You were finally just about ready to move on with your life even if you were still hurt. âTime heals all woundsâ your friends assured you and all you could do now was wait it out and see if they were right.Â
All you knew for sure was that it was time to get out into the world again. If you saw him so be it. You couldnât avoid him forever, at some point youâd have to face him again. And who knew, you could step your foot out of the door at any given moment and still have a chance of not seeing him. The point was that you had to start living your life again. That was the only way for things to get better.Â
Thatâs why you were sat at a booth in some smokey downtown bar/restaurant with your friend, picking at french fries and talking aimlessly about nothing in particular. You felt good, you felt normal; you felt like your old self again. But it seemed that a lot of old things were going to resurface because as you looked up at your friend you heard the bell at the door chime and who else would walk in but Ace Fucking Merrill.Â
You quickly ducked your face down, trying your best to hide your features behind your hand as you stared down at your plate. You were suddenly very glad your friend had convinced you to take the booth in the far corner of the place, out of sight of most of your fellow patrons. You swallowed thickly and tried to calm yourself as you saw him walk with some of his friends into the back of the bar. They picked up pool sticks as one of them headed to the bar and ordered a round of drinks.Â
Once it was safe you whispered to your friend about the predicament that you were in. The courage that you had previously had in your hypothetical scenarios was now gone and all you wanted to do was slip silently past him without being seen. You knew it wasnât going to be that easy, luck obviously wasnât on your side today and Ace wasnât one to not notice things especially when it involved pretty girls. And how right you were....
As you removed your hand from your face you glanced over and saw Ace looking straight at you as he leaned across the pool table. You quickly looked away and towards your friend, telling her that you wanted to leave now. She nodded understandingly and started to grab her things, signaling the waiter for your check. Too bad he wasnât fast enough.
âY/n...â You glanced up at the blonde standing beside your table; you didnât respond.Â
âYou havenât taken any of my calls.â He said lowly, watching you as he moved the pool stick he held around in his hand. It was weird seeing him like this. He seemed different, shy in a way, uncharacteristically unsure of himself. You still didnât respond.Â
He glanced back at his friends who tried to appear as though they werenât watching the three of you curiously. Then he turned back to you, licking his lips before he spoke. âCan we talk?â
The waiter finally came with your check and your friend quickly handed him the money you owed. Eyeing you uncomfortably, waiting for your next move. âSorry Ace but weâre just leaving.â you muttered.
âI see that,â He said, pausing before he spoke again, waiting for the waiter to walk away from the table. âbut I need to have a word with you.â
âAce, she really doesnât want to talk to you.â
âAmanda,â he responded rudely. âI really wasnât talking to you.â
âWell Iâm the only one youâll be talking to for a while in regards to her since she-â
âAmanda,â You interrupted, trying your best to give her a reassuring glance before sighing and turning back to the blonde. âAce I canât talk right now....â
âThen when?â He immediately asked, less like a question and more like a demand.Â
â...I donât know when, I just-â You struggled to think of something to say, cursing yourself for even feeling the need to provide him with any answer.Â
âThen just come with me for a little while and we can talk.âÂ
âAce...â You borderline pleaded, wanting nothing more than to just get out of there.Â
âCome on y/n. One conversation.â He pressed and finally you sighed, looking at your friend with a defeated look before agreeing. You slid out of the booth, walking past him and out the door. You hoped that this would get rid of him once and for all.
You leaned against the concrete wall of the building, blowing an exasperated breath out of your mouth as you waited for the blonde to emerge. The bell chimed and you didnât bother looking at him as he moved to stand in front of you.
âSo what.â You said, taking a page from his book and making it sound like a subtle demand of information rather than a question. Youâd thought youâd made yourself perfectly clear, you didnât want to see him again let alone talk to him. But you werenât sure if it was all because you were upset with him or if a part of you knew that he could worm his way into your life again just as easily as he did the first time.Â
He nodded his head towards the sidewalk and started walking down it. You debated staying right where you were but you figured it was probably best to just get this done now. Once you were a little ways away from the restaurant he finally spoke up, perhaps deciding it was finally safe to say what he was going to say next without fear of anyone important hearing.Â
âI love you, alright? Is that what you want to hear?â He said, eyes darting from side to side as he kept his gaze forward.Â
âNo Ace that really isnât.â You muttered, picking at your nails as you kept pace with him.Â
âYeah? Well itâs true,â He insisted. âI love you more than anything in this fucking world and I canât live with you walking out on me. Itâs killing me to not have you around. I canât stand it.â
âYou should have thought of that-â He interrupted you.
âYes, I should of thought of that but Iâm a fucking idiot. What else can I say?â He paused before he sighed. âYou know Iâm sorry. Iâve never felt worse about something in my entire life. If I could take it back I would.â
âBut you canât.â You said stubbornly but you felt your resolve melting already and your eagerness to be with him again frustrated you.Â
âNo I canât,â He agreed. âBut Iâll do whatever it takes to make it right. I need you baby. You know that.â
âThe house if too empty without you.â He gave you a small solemn smile as you remained silent.Â
âWhere you staying right now?â He asked and you decided that that was the safest thing out of his words to respond to.Â
âA friends.â You spoke quietly, still guarded; still not wanting to admit you missed him and that you wanted him back.Â
âI saw you got your stuff out of the house.â He commented.
âYeah.â You replied unsure of what you should say.Â
âY/n please. Just one more chance, thatâs all Iâm asking. Let me show you just how much you mean to me. Nothing like this will ever happen again and if it does then Iâll let you go without any problems. Youâll be free to live your life without me. But please baby, just give it another shot. Give me another shot.â He pleaded, stopping and taking you by the hands making you look up at him. His eyes looked glassy. It was the first time youâd ever seen him look close to tears.Â
âIf anything like this happens again Iâm never coming back.â You promised and his lips quirked into a pleased smile as he sniffled.Â
âIf anything like this happens again Itâs your god given right to blow my head off.â He laughed, voice raw sounding and emotional like his heart was stuck in his throat.Â
âSee, thereâs that smile, that pretty little smile.â He pulled you into a tight hug, resting his chin on the top of your head, his hands rubbing up and down your back.Â
He pulled away and kissed your cheek before speaking. âYou know I love you right?âÂ
âNow I do.â You laughed softly.Â
âWell donât you ever forget that alright?â He asked, eyes searching yours.Â
âI wont.â You assured him and let him tilt your chin up, kissing your lips uncharacteristically soft.
Sure, Ace Merrill was an asshole. He knew that and embraced it but he loved you more than anyone ever had and heâd be damned if he ever let a woman like you go. A woman that loved and put up with an asshole like him. You were the one good thing in his life and he wasnât going to let you leave anytime soon.

Relationship: Ace Merrill x Female!Reader
Summary: He knew you before you knew him. Of course he did. He was the "King" of Castle Rock, or more like the main terrorist that everyone knew about, but never personally. When your brother had left for two days on a trip he stated to be a so called "mission," Teddy returned a different young man. It wasn't until some time later when you'd figured out the truth, that you'd be taking charge and standing your ground to protect your brother. With a big mark on your back and an enemy to subdue, you couldn't help but see more than you'd ever seen before.

Walking through the front door, silent and head down, Teddy glanced up for a moment, catching your stare, then continuing to his right to go up the stairs. âTeddy?â you call after him, but receive no answer. Placing your book down on the couch and pushing your glasses back up the bridge of your nose, you call again, âTeddy?â Something's off.
Following him up the stairs, he attempts to slam the door in your face. The attempt, although feeble, made your steps falter a moment. Teddyâs never been one to back out of anything, not even a potential fight- that is, if heâs pissed at you. âTeddy?â you try for the last time, head placed against his bedroom door as you knock lightly.Â
â...Just go away...â he sounds from within his room, voice muffled and slightly forced. Heâs crying. The thought occurs after a moment, enabling you to push through the threshold of his room. Finally able to see him properly, his bag was thrown across the room, glasses dropped beside his bed, his body sprawled across it belly-down. Confirming your earlier thoughts, he lifts his head to look at you for a moment, eyes red and damp with many shed tears.
âWhatâs up, Bub?â you ask lightly, sitting at the corner of his bed and pulling his head into your lap.
âPromise not to tell mom?âÂ
âI promise,â you say, kissing the tip of your pinkie, then lifting it to the air, âPinkie Swear, even.â
âI didnât go to Gordieâs this weekend. Instead, we went on this bitchinâ adventure to go for that lost boy that was in the news. We were going to be on TV if we found him! ...And we did...He was all cut up, and bloody, and torn apart, and-and-and he was just so young. He was my age Y/N. But, then, when we were about to leave, Ace and his gang came to screw us on the whole thing and take the fame, but really, we didnât want it anymore. Gordie and Chris were trying to cover the boy up instead, we figured itâd be best if no one knew where he was. We thought it would be better if we let him rest in peace rather than being blown all over the newspapers and stuff, ya know? Ace wouldnât let up though, he didnât care like we did, so Gordie pulled a gun on him, and he left...for now. He promised heâll get us for it,â Teddy rants about the whole story of events that happened this weekend. It was when he described the boyâs body that you could finally see why he was so upset. No person should ever see such a thing, even if it was intended as a little adventure.
âGuess they don;t look the same like the movies, huh?â you try to joke, albeit sadly as you could see the swirl of emotions in Teddyâs eyes. Heâs never been so vulnerable before, none of his liveliness or joking anywhere in sight.
âGod no! Thatâs what I was thinkinâ he was gonna look like when we got there, but no. It was way worse. The producers and people got that shit wrong!â
âHey, listen. Iâm not gonna tell mom alright? And donât worry about Ace. You, Gordie, Chris, and Vern have got nothing to worry about, Iâm not going to let him get to you guys. Alright?â you ask again, cradling Teddyâs face in your hands as you wipe away the remaining tears with your thumbs. When he nods, you give him a light kiss on the tip of his nose, âNow get some sleep, Iâm making some soup for dinner. Then we can watch Mickey Mouse Club if you want?â
âThat sound good,â he mumbles, smoozing into the pillows and blankets comfortably.
Going down the stairs to prepare dinner, you hear a smashing noise from outside. Running to the front door quickly, youâre just able to catch Ace and his gang in a car, peeling down the street with a baseball in Billy Tessioâs hands. âFuck you Ace!â you yell at him, satisfied when you see his head snap round to look at you, your middle finger high above your head. Just as you expected him to narrow his eyes in anger, he smirks instead, shaking his head and turning around in his seat, disappearing down the street in which he came.
///
This soon became a natural occurrence, Ace either appearing in his red convertible by his lonesome or in a group. Everyday, you are greeted with the same smashing noise of your wooden mailbox being smashed to bits. At some point, even your parents noticed Aceâs behavior and seemingly target on your house. So much so that theyâd finally had enough, ordering you to either get him to stop or pay for the replacements. The latter is what youâd ended up with in the end, getting into multiple squabbles with Ace that end the exact same: him finding amusement in the whole ordeal, you flustered and out of good comebacks, and the result being that Ace continued his charades. It pissed you off to no end, the way heâd just flaunt his shit, all cocky without remorse.
Thatâs when an idea occurred.Â
///
Marching down the front steps leading to your front door, you continue your way down to the end of the driveway. Looking down the street, you catch the familiar glow of his red convertible, this time only him in the car. Nodding to yourself, you hide behind the bush nearest the mailbox, out of view of Ace when he arrives. For days, you timed when Ace came around, the times almost lining up perfectly, like this was a part of his everyday schedule now.
The car, now coming to a slow stop, parks but remains on, the driverâs side door clamping shut upon impact as Ace steps out. Grabbing the wooden bat from the back seat, he makes his way around the car and prepares to line up his shot on the mailbox. Just as he gets ready to swing, you jump out from the bush; a horrible decision as his grip slips, the bat making connection with the side of your knee.Â
Jumping back a little, it takes him a moment to notice what had just happened, your body splayed across the grass as an already purple bruise forms on your leg, whimpering in pain. âOw!â you scream at him, trying not to cry as you get back on your feet, rubbing slow circles on the area, âDickhead!â
âWho-Who you callinâ Dickhead, Sweets?â he stutters, still starstruck.
âI am! You just hit me with a damn bat, you Idiot!âÂ
âOh, so now Iâm an Idiot, too?! Who the hell jumps in front of someone with a fucking bat in their hands?!â
âI didnât expect you to swing, dammit! I thought youâd stop when you saw me, not go through with it!â you yell, trying not to cry even more now as the pain becomes evident and the tears bubble up in your eyes.
âYeah, well, you shouldnât have gotten so damn close, and I couldâve missed!â
âYou shouldnât even be here! You shouldnât be coming around here every. Damn. Day. Just to smash my fucking mailbox that I pay for by the way! Youâve broken so many of them that now itâs become my responsibility to pay for the new ones! And for what? Because a couple of boys found a dead kid? What were you even supposed to gain from that?! Why couldnât you have just left everyone and everything alone?!â you scream, voice cracking at the end as the tears start to fall in frustrated droplets.
The air seems to get filled up in an intense silence, neither of you speaking nor looking at each other directly for a while. After some time, Ace speaks up, âIs that why you came out here today? To tell me everything I fuck up in?â
âNo, Ace, I wanted to tell you to leave my brother and his friends alone. And, if you were just a smidge kind enough, to keep my mailbox out of it too,â you sniffle, looking at your feet.
As your glasses start to slide down the bridge of your nose again, you go to push them back up, Ace beating you to it however. Looking up at him, his hands stay on either side of your face, his thumb stroking at the soft skin. Eyes darting from his eyes to his lips, your cheeks heat up at the proximity. âWhat are you doing, Ace?â you whisper, so close, your breath ghosts across his lips.
âYou mean, what are we doing?â he whispers back, pulling your face to his in a searing kiss just as you go to argue once more.
Slowly, you ease into the kiss, eyes fluttering close as you give in to the warmth and love behind it. Wrapping your arms around his shoulders, he goes to wrap his arms around your hips, finding comfort there. You forget about the pain in your knee for as long as possible, eventually pulling away from him in a flustered, embarrassed way as you go to check up on the bruise.
Getting on his knees, Ace takes your leg in his grasp, looking over what heâd done, ashamed. âIt looks pretty bad, Y/N...Want me to go take you to go get it checked out?â he asks nicely, a different side of him.
âItâs just a bruise, Iâll be fine. I swear. But, if plan on this getting anywhere,â you start, pointing between the two of you, âthen you better wise up, ya got me?â
âYes maâam!â Ace solutes lazily, smirking as he looks at the ground.
âGood,â you try to say sternly, breaking into a grin when you looks up at you through his eyelashes. âYou wanna come inside and help me ice it?â
Chuckling now, Ace straightens, going to shut off the car and take the keys, grabbing your hand and leading you back through the front door. Giggling, you follow him as he tries to find everything himself, sitting you down on the couch, switching the TV on, scrambling around to find the freezer, and coming back with a bag of frozen peas.Â
Panting as he hands you the peas, he stands out of breath from the little scavenger hunt, watching you. âCome on Lover-boy,â you say, pulling him down next to you on the couch by his shirt. Kicking off your shoes, he follows the same, eventually spreading out to cuddle one another. As your eyes drift to sleep in a light haze, you completely forget about the soup in the oven, jumping back up when the smell of smoke fills the room, âShit!â

Not What I Had Planned

A/N: This was an idea I had gotten from someone on Wattpad who had requested it on that platform.
Relationship: Ace Merrill x GenderNeutral!Reader (soon baby x Ace x GN!Reader)
Summary: As Ace was on his way home from a day out with the boys, he was caught by surprise as an unexpected bundle of joy was found on the side of the road. In those very few seconds, his life flips, but is it for the best or the worst?
Warnings: language, more fluff, some angst (Ace gets in his feels)

Pulling out from the alley behind the diner, Ace stops at the stop sign right beside it, intending on making his way home. As he turns the corner, making a left, he settles in his seat, now driving down the long, winding dirt road he usually takes with the boys when theyâre racing. The sun was starting to set and the cool summer air was a blissful calm to Ace. Instead of speeding down the road, he decides to take it easy, enjoying the scenery, not really wanting to go home yet.
As he continues on the little cruise, he sees a road heâs never noticed before, branching off from the main road yet leading him to the same destination. Deciding to take it, he makes a slight right, now continuing on the hilly detour. Not so long after he made his way onto the road did he stop at another stop sign, seeing a bundle of blankets beside it. Intending on passing the mound of blankets, Ace soon stops altogether as he hears a slight cry. Confused, he slows his car to a stop and listens closely. Â
After hearing yet another quiet cry, Ace puts his blinkers on, parks the car, and makes his way around the front to get a better look. Moving some of the blankets aside, Ace is shocked to find a small, infant baby huddled beneath the covers, crying and lonely. For a second, all he could do is stare, wondering how or why the baby was there in the first place.
Looking around, he looks for any sign of the parents or caretakers of the child, quitting soon after he realizes thereâs no sign of anyone actually looking for the kid. Whoever did this had obviously done it on purpose, having left a bottle, toy, and a small package of formula. Pacing now, Ace contemplates whether or not he should leave the baby there. Deciding against his better judgement though, he scoops the baby into his arms, and snags the materials left beside it.
Throwing the things in the back, he moves to strap the baby into the passenger seat, soon failing as the baby flops and flounders around, unable to safely sit in the seat. Annoyed, Ace almost screams at the kid, but overall knows thereâs nothing it had done wrong besides being completely helpless. Instead, Ace scoops the baby up once more, taking one of the blankets and wrapping around the baby. Â
Going back to the drivers seat, he secures the baby against his chest with his left arm, driving to Y/N one-handed, deciding to not go home now. Itâs not like heâs usually there anyway. Y/Nâs house they owned on their own money had become Aceâs refuge. Their shared paradise. And thatâs where he felt comfortable most. Thatâs why heâs going there.
Knocking on the door to Y/Nâs small log cabin, Ace stands nervously, bouncing on foot to foot, not exactly knowing what heâs going to say or do or how Y/N was going to react. He didnât have time to overthink it, unfortunately for him, as the person in question opens the door with a bright smile that always made Ace weak. The smile soon falters though as Y/N catches glimpse at what is being held tightly to Aceâs chest.
âWhat did you do?â is the only question they ask, looking Ace in the eyes questionably.
âWell I- I- I- Itâs a long story babe,â he stutters out, âCan I come in please?â
Sighing, Y/N gives him one of their special looks, the one where they act annoyed but truly arenât, and quite frankly, very amused at that. Ace sits on the couch, giving Y/N the whole rundown on what had happened, how the baby was left, and what led him to Y/Nâs doorstep in the first place.Â
Y/N simply smiles adoringly at Ace though, completely lost in their own mind. The whole time since Ace had walked in, he had kept the baby tightly in his arms, as if any second, the baby could be taken away from him. He was the perfect father figure, and Y/N couldnât help but fall even more in love with Ace at the moment.
âSo what are you planning to do with the baby?â Y/N asks softly, knowing the idea of a child in Aceâs care was one of his biggest fears and a very touchy topic.
âI donât know, probably just put it back where I found it. You know how I feel about kids, and I ainât turninâ into my father. Itâs better this way. And I know youâre about to lecture me about this, but this decision is final,â Ace answers gruffly, getting into a defensive mode, as if the world was against him.
Y/N doesnât answer, instead lightly takes the baby from Aceâs arms, going to change it upstairs, away from Aceâs eyesight. It gave him time to cool down. Y/N, being extra careful, changes the baby with the little materials Ace had picked up from beside the baby on the street, soon discovering itâs a baby girl. Someone left a baby girl behind.Â
Going back to the living room, Y/N watches Ace, taking in his posture. The way he stares at the floor with such guilt. Silently taking their seat beside him once more, Y/N gives his hand a squeeze, lightly taking his cheek in their hand, tilting Aceâs head lightly in order for him to meet their eyes.
âBaby, you are not your father. And, listen to me. I can see the look in your eyes, I know you donât want to dump that baby back there just as someone else had. Your better than that. That makes you twice the man your father is. You are a strong, kind, generous, determined, stubborn, and protective man. Your my man. And I know youâll be an amazing father. I understand if you donât want to keep the baby, but sheâs not going anywhere until I find her somewhere where someone will take proper care,â Y/N speaks in a hushed, caring tone, one they use when they calm Aceâs panic attacks or outbursts.
Ace sniffles a little as some tears threaten to fall, âDid you say âsheâ? As in a little girl? Why...â he whispers in disbelief. Y/N simply hugs him, kissing him on the head. âWeâre keeping her,â he says firmly, sitting straight almost simultaneously.
âBabe, if you donât want this, we donât need to do it right now-âÂ
âNo! I want this! I want you, I want the baby, I want us. Youâre right, Iâm not my father, and Iâm sure as hell not gonna pussy outta this right now. I never back down from a challenge, and this is a challenge Iâm proud to tackle with you. We can be a beautiful family, you and me. And now with her too,â Ace cuts them off sternly.
After taking a breath, Ace calms himself, giving Y/N a chaste kiss to the lips before finishing with an âI love you.â Taking Ace by the hand, Y/N leads him up the stairs where the little girl is found sleeping peacefully on their shared bed. The couple, now holding each other, stare adoringly at the little bundle of joy.Â
âThis was not what I had planned,â Ace says after some time.
âI know baby, I know,â Y/N answers in just barely a whisper. Â
Little did they know that this little girl wouldâve brought the couple even closer together, their bond strengthening through the years to come. Their little girl being their pride and joy, the family they never thought of, soon becoming the best thing thatâs ever happened to them.

To say that parenting was easy wouldâve easily given away a person who has no clue about kids in general. Unless they are some saint or angel, then any kid could be a goddamn monster. The only defense, they donât act like this on purpose, itâs just in their nature. And, in order for them to be raised properly, certain points or changes in their lives must be tackled in different forms of parenting.
For instance, when the child is only an infant or toddler, crying, pain, and attention-cravings are just the few things that are typical. Infants are delicate, unable to properly explain or do anything themselves, crying and attention being essential. As toddlers, they start to learn things on their own, cry and attention still to be expected, as they now reach their clumsiness period, consistent falling, stumbling, and tripping now.
To say Ace was prepared for this was a full-proof lie, him not knowing or being understanding for shit. He didnât know how to be a father, especially when the father figure heâs usual supposed to take notes and go by, was a complete ass that couldâve cared less of who he had fathered and unsupported.
Y/N, however, was the opposite of Ace. Having supportive, loving, close-knit bonds. Thatâs what had drawn Ace into their little circle, being complete opposites, yet undeniably attracted to one another. Y/Nâs father was the father Ace never had, playing football, watching sports, talking politics, hell even cooking barbecue on a damn grill; was just a few of the things observed and learned.
Y/Nâs mother also played an amazing role, prying her way into Aceâs life just as her child had. Delicate, kind and caring. Y/Nâs mother taught Ace sympathy, more control on his emotions, how to love and be loved by family, and of course, their child, Y/N.
All of these things, that may tend to be simple knowledge, was introduced to Ace as if it were a whole new world, and, when the pair had introduced their new addition, he applied everything he could. He was as caring as he could manage, which although he thought otherwise, was the kindest he had ever been to any human being in the world (besides Y/N and their family of course).
Ace carried a camera always, worked some extra hours during the night just for extra cash in the future, carried his baby girl everywhere, and despite his hard feelings for his family, he had created the beautiful name of Christina Poppy Merrill. Since their first kid was a daughter, Christina came in the honor of his brother Chris Merrill, and her middle name had come from his fatherâs nickname, âPop.âÂ
Y/N, being their ever supporting self, quickly hopped on the bandwagon, loving the name completely, not completely caring as long as their baby carried their Aceâs last name, just as they always dreamed of in the future. Marriage was something Y/N nearly craved, but never brought it up to Ace, him still knowing secretly but haunted by yet another touchy topic on its own level.
They understood though, knowing now that that topic would have to wait, their new addition coming first.Â
For a while, Chrissy had slept in their bed during the nights, while Y/N and Ace built the very room she would soon reside in for the many years to come. Y/N painted the walls pink and blue hues, mixing in some places to make them a slight purple, like a sunset. Ace busied himself by building a handmade bed, âSomething sturdy so she doesnât fall through the fucking floor,â is what he claimed, stealing giggles in answer to his ever-questionable train of thought.
Music blasting, people working, and a baby playing in the center of the room. Bliss. Everything Y/N wanted, especially when their beloved boyfriend made sure he checked on the baby girl every so often, sometimes taking a break to even play cars with her. They fell for Ace long ago, but moments like these strike right to the heart, knowing damn well that they somehow can fall even harder for him.
Even the dumb, giggly moments.Â
Y/N had changed Chrissy for a while, eventually getting somewhat annoyed as they would get up throughout the night just to change the baby in question, Ace claiming innocence and, âI donât know how to... baby.âÂ
Y/N didnât even bother to question what the fuck he was trying to say, sleep creeping into his being, but not long enough as Y/N yanks his ass out of bed, pulling his hand along with theirs.
Entering the room, Y/N goes to the changing station and Ace grabs Chistina, giving a resting bitch face to Y/N for waking him up. They ignore him however, quite tired of his excuses and deciding to teach the man exactly what to do, so that he didnât have any excuses to give.
Pointing things out every now and then, Ace takes the advice, doing what was instructed...hardly. He almost gagged as he took the spoiled diaper off his baby girl, the shit coating some of her back. Y/N had laughed at that, finding some satisfaction at the fact of him probably having the worst diaper yet as his first.
He does manage to clean her up though, Y/N had to admit, doing quite well for a man so out of his comfort zone. He was the âbad boyâ for Christâs sake. It was towards the end though, when Ace fucked up royally. Going to grab the baby powder and lightly dab some on the babyâs diaper, but dumping a mountain of the stuff instead.
The couple stare for a moment, Christina even silencing questionably, looking at the mess of baby powder both coating Chrissy and Ace. Y/N, trying not to be the immature one in this situation, takes steps back, but loses it the second they get a good look at Aceâs face, shocked and confused as hell.
He turns towards them accusingly, but soon gives into the humorous situation too, chasing Y/N as he goes to coat them in baby powder as well. They squeal, racing around the house until Ace wraps his arms around their waist, dumping some of the powder on their head.Â
Within seconds, they are a laughing mess, running back towards Chrissy, almost forgetting she was still sitting on the changing station. Y/N shows Ace how to change the baby properly now, doing the rest of the cleanup and changing themselves as Ace watches adoringly.
Placing the baby in the crib, Ace rids himself of his shirt, clad in his underwear only now, and continues down the hall back to the shared coupleâs bedroom. Y/N follows closely behind, admiring his muscular back, as they really couldnât help it in their case.Â
The couple lays back down, content smiles on their features. Aceâs arms reach towards Y/Nâs form, bringing their back against his chest, right arm cradling their head and the left delicately draped across their waist, his head placed in the crook of their neck.Â
The utter comfort and love in the embrace quickly reassures Y/N, their joints finally loosening from the long day and events of the night. And, just as sleep comes to overtake them, they could just hear Ace below a whisper, âOne day Iâll get yaâ your ring, and one day, youâll steal my last name, just as youâve stolen my heart.âÂ

Hey Stranger.
John "Ace" Merrill x reader
Warnings: vaguely bad language, mention of injury (very vague)
Context: This was requested by @theghostof-myndi , so here it is! The overview of the request is like this: Ace and the reader are childhood friends, though the reader moved away from Castle Rock at some point in the fifties (given that this is now set in the sixties). When the reader eventually moves back with her father, she and Ace resume their friendship as he shows her around again, the two of them getting along very well and basically flirting with each other (unfortunately I'm terrible at writing flirting so it's not particularly obvious in this) . The fathers of the two know that they like each other and work to get them together, given that they are also old friends.
A/N: There will most likely be a part two to this fic! I haven't quite gotten to what is probably the better part of the actual plot, but I will write it at some point soon with the help of @jawline-of-steel , whose help I have enlisted to help me with ideas.

"Hey, Stranger, it's been a while." A familiar voice greets from behind me, the perpetually snarky tone unchanged and still as rough as it used to be.
Whirling around, I grin as I recognise the person standing behind me, my instincts taking over as I lunge forward and wrap him into a hug, pressing my face into his shoulder with happiness.
"Ace! It's been too long!" I exclaim, smiling broadly as he returns the embrace and crushes me into him, burying his face into my hair like he used to do.
"Yeah, where've you been these last few years? You've missed so much!" The blonde pulls away slightly to look down at me, his icy blue eyes regarding me carefully as I shrug.
"Eh, we've been near enough everywhere." I reply, moving so I can stand back, looking him over, "It's good to be back, though. You're gonna have to fill me in on what's different now."
"How about I show you around again? That way I can introduce you to all the new assholes that have joined the Cobras and show you what's changed in town." Ace offers, gesturing to his car, "The new look is great, by the way, doll."
I blush slightly at the old nickname, thanking him as I climb into his car, picking up the baseball bat that he has propped against the dashboard.
"You guys still go around knocking down mailboxes?" I ask, thinking back to all the times we used to do it as teens, back when none of us had any inhibitions and the only problems we had were trying to hold up a reputation in town.
"Yeah, but only when my ass of a dad isn't looking." He smirks, "Wanna play a bit now?"
"Game on, Blondie." I respond, taking the bar in hand as he climbs into the car and starts it up, pulling out of the parking lot we were in and onto the main road, where there are fewer cars than I remember, "Hey, what happened to everyone? I swear there were more people around?"
He nods, shrugging a little as he navigates the sparse traffic, chewing lightly on the toothpick in his mouth.
"There were, but most people moved away over time. Now nearly everyone that lives here is from the old families, and everything is basically family owned, too." He explains quickly, pointing out a small diner as we go past that has a flickering neon sign hanging outside it, the word unclear as we speed past.
"Oh." Is all I say, before I stand up in my seat, the bat ready in my hand as I line up with the next mailbox I can see. Gripping the bat with two hands, I swing hard at it as we approach, whooping loudly as the bat clangs against the metal, knocking it to the floor with a crash behind us. Knowing the rules of the game, I instantly get ready to strike again, managing to knock down a good eight before I miss one, only just tapping it as we go past.
"Aw, come on! You swerved on purpose!" I complain jokingly, pouting as I sit back down in my seat, "You want a go?"
"Sure, I'm gonna completely show you up!"
"Keep telling yourself that, Blondie." I lean over and take the wheel for him, steering the car as he stands up and starts batting down the mailboxes that are unfortunate enough to lie on our route.
Looking up at him, I smirk to myself and wait until we're close to another one, harshly jerking the car to the side before he can actually hit it, drawing a frustrated groan from the blonde standing over me. He swiftly returns to his seat, taking the wheel from me as we steer back into town.
"You totally cheated." He says decisively, looking across at me with his signature grin, to which I act mockingly offended.
"How could you even imply that? I would never!"
"Yeah right." Ace chuckles, shaking his head.
Laughing, I turn to look at the surroundings, remembering all of the more dilapidated shops and houses, alongside some of the larger, grander ones, which I've always enjoyed looking at. As we drive, we pass another parking lot, where a group of boys are standing around their cars, smoking and talking with one another, beer bottles held in hand as they laugh and joke about. Upon passing them; Ace calls out to them, waving at them genially as they do the same.
"Friends of yours?" I question him once we've passed, lifting an eyebrow at him.
"Not really. They're just members of the gang that I have to keep up appearances with. Their old men are pretty big around here." He clarifies, rolling his eyes at the reminder.
"Their old men? Since when do they make a difference?"
"Since they took over the Cobras. My old man is the leader, but they're still pretty important."Â
"Oh. I guess my dad will be looking for a place in the group, too, then." I muse, rubbing my temples a little.
"Yeah, most likely." Ace frowns and looks over at me, "We gave you the mark, didn't we?"Â
"Yeah, you did." I confirm, easily recalling the pain from the knife as it cut the cobra shape into my upper arm.
"That's good. It means you're already basically a part of the gang, so you'll fit right in."
"Like I wouldn't anyway." I chuckle, punching his arm playfully.
*
"You know, I reckon they'd make a great pair, those two." Ace's father comments to (Y/n)'s, gesturing with his beer to the two young adults as they talk with each other, sitting very closely and behaving as if no time had passed between them.
"Yeah, they would. I don't think (Y/n) ever really gave up on him." The other man responds, taking a sip from his own drink.
"John definitely didn't. He's shown no interest towards the other sex since you guys left, except of course to fuck someone, but that never really means anything to him."
"Likewise with (Y/n). She has never brought home another boy who has stayed any longer than a few days."
The two of them stay in silence for a minute, both starting to think up a plan that could help them bring together their children again.
"We've gotta figure something out. We owe it to them, and to ourselves." Ace's father eventually breaks the quiet, sighing deeply.
"Yeah we do." (Y/n)'s father thinks a moment longer, "You know, I think I've just had an idea."
"You have?" The older Merrill shoots a surprised look at his friend.
"I have."Â
"Let's hear it then."
Grinning, the two men lean into each other, conspiring together as they used to back in their day.
