Exploring Your Academic Interests and Strengths:
A Crash Course
Introduction
Before committing to your plan of study and career goals, it is important that you have a good grasp on what those academic interests are — as well as if they will play in favor with the degree(s) you wish to pursue. This is the quick and easy playbook on how to quickly identify these select areas you should start positioning yourself for.
Discover Your Interests
Consider What Makes You Anxious: Think about what gives you real anxiety. It is simply recognizing what it is that excites you, whether in solving intricate problems or writing creative literature.
Look Back At Your Experiences: Review your coursework, projects and experience (ie. extra-curricular activities) In which ones did you excel and enjoy the most? Through these experiences and patterns, you will realize what your true interests are.
Identify Your Strengths
Test Your Skills: Call or no call, check those competencies that come so naturally to you and make sure they are not suppressing your answers. Have you mastered the art of analytical thinking, or public speaking? Once you know it will be possible to search fields where the existing strengths may helpontinue doing well.
Get Feedback From teachers, coaches or even peers about your strengths. Things that others may see in us but we do not always perceive ourselves.
Align Interests and Strengths
Match with Academic Programs:Find academic programs or courses that match both your interest and strength. It is possible that this alignment can catapult you into better success and enjoyment of your studies.
Set Goals:You should use this understanding to develop clear academic and career goals. Be in search of opportunities where you can further leverage on your strengths and fulfill what makes your heart tick.
Conclusion
The first step to an enjoyable educational journey is recognizing your academic interests and strengths. Think about what inspires you, evaluate your abilities and then parallel it with your academic direction. If you do, then there is a high probability that you will gravitate towards something which not only agrees with your passion but also complements what comes naturally to you.
