Ugh i hate when people just act dense like that. "the penis is not inherently violent!!11!! Hands also cause violence but u dont see anyone shaking around hands or asking them to hide their hands. Hands can kill uwu". First i see it in a book. now I see some dumb tumblr post. (Well i see this topic a lot on here; actually)
In the book, a main character dances with a guy and he gets hard. The main character (they use they pronouns fyi), they feel scared and back off away from the guy. Guy goes "its just a body part, not a weapon". I don't know why i found the scene so annoying. Maybe because it felt dismissive of the main characters fear? they likely had a reason to feel scared and him being dismissive like that and making their fear about him is.. ew. it made me really dislike that character (the guy).
sure, its "just" a body part. but many people are traumatized by people using their penises to intimidate or hurt, especially IRT sexual violence and rape, unwanted impregnation (esp in countries where birth control and abortion is restricted) I just hate seeing this rhetoric acting like women/others are dumb and irrational for feeling unsettled or scared when they see one without warning. I wish it was just a neutral body part, maybe one day in the far future it will be. but rn its understandable to feel scared and uncomfortable around penises with the current way many men choose to enact sexual violence with them. why are people so damn dense about this? It doesn't come from nowhere, yknow.
I wonder if they say the same thing about penises not being a threat when men choose to jack off in public to women, something that happens way too fucking much, BTW. Sure its a "just" body part, i agree it should be just neutral. but many men use their dicks as weapons/to cause discomfort and i thiiiiiiiiink we should b allowed to talk about it and not treated as dumb, am i crazy for this?..... theres always a condescending vibe to it when people go "dude its just a dick uwu its a neutral body part. calm down"
I wouldn't have made this post if i didnt see this topic come up so much recently.
Anyways no, having a penis doesn't make one inherently evil or whatever, i suspect thats why people argue this so much- and hey, i agree. All im saying is theres a lot of baggage and trauma, assault, unwanted pregnancies associated with penises and we should stop acting like women are hysterical for being scared or uncomfortable around them. I just feel like its another way to tell women "ur overreacting.. shut up!!" Idk.
I feel crazy typing this but posttt
