Started with this B/W sketchbook drawing. Got inspired by the look of the sketchbook spiral on the side, cuz it looked like film notches. Made me think of x-ray scans. Ended up doing the whole medical route on the final drawing.
Coloring method was mostly pressing the "invert" tool to turn the canvas black. Then painting red/yellow with gradient maps. And then drawing the glowing blue lines, as well as typing the "medical" text, on an "add" layer.
Spoilers and long head canons and unlicensed medical talk under the cut.
The text reads:
REVIEWED BY PONY EXPRESS AUTODOC MODEL-SCUMSUCK
PATIENT: CURLY
Near total body disruption from explosive decompression
Complete dermal vascular system collapse
Severe radiation poisoning
Hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state
Muscle and bone cachexia
Single eye rupture
Chronic obstructive pulmonary
Testicular rupture
Severe leukopenia
Itchiness and dry eye
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT
Administer intravenous therapy and catheter
Support neck and spine
Change bandages as supplies last
Orally administer paracetamol for pain
Turn and reposition patient every 2 hours to prevent bed sores
Create relaxing enviroment
Listen attentively to understand emotional state
Allow time for exercise and meditation
Encourage positive thinking
Brush teeth
Administer mouthwash
SIGNED OFF BY DOCTOR ANYA
Of course none of the treatment is actually good. In the game itself, you give him paracetamol (TYLENOL) for pain haha. So I thought I'd go along with the bad medical advice. Including that universal medical advice you get to do "exercise and meditation" if you are in a bad mood :)
I think I spent about as much time looking up the medical stuff (specifically things in relation to explosion damage and radiation damage - thinking of the Byford Dolphin Incident as well as Hisashi Ouchi) as I did with the coloring! We don't know what exactly happened with Curly, but I'd just guess with my lack of medical knowledge that the ship crashed, something exploded, and he was exposed to intense radiation.
Realistically he wouldn't be surviving with the level of medical care they have available on the ship, so I drew a couple things I thought would help him... namely the IV and catheter haha. Also thought it'd be a fun time to introduce my favorite headcanon to gift cute characters: the gift of genital nullification. Yes, I drew this mostly to show off my not-buff and no-pp headcanons!!!!
I like Curly with no skin, no muscle, no hair. It's ok if he had those before. I probably wouldn't draw him "recovered" with perfectly functioning prosthetic limbs and magically regrown vocal cords and sexy 8 pack abs. That's just me. He could get a wheelchair, perhaps some sort of eye controlled assisted communication like Stephen Hawking (but Curly doesn't seem to be able to control his jaw or cheek?).
Thinking about ~da dystopian future~ and what support he would even get? His job ain't gettin him anything :P He doesn't seem to be in the sort of society with universal healthcare, they'd drain his savings and then put him in a dark room with a nurse that turns him over once every 24 hours... Well, that's if they find him. I think he's staying frozen for 20 years and then melting like Walt Disney once the power runs out.

More details about A World Turned Upside-Down?
Gonna treat this five headcanons and an au style~
Izuku was raised by his mom and step-mom, Midoriya Inko and Abe Youko. His father Hisashi 'tragically' died when he was four after something involving a doctor, a corkscrew, and a bag of peanuts.
No he doesn't want to know either.
Copycat is a legacy title, passed down for the past century between a group of underground information brokers. Neito happens to be the most recent one. Izuku has a great deal of interest in acquiring Neito and his status as the present Copycat for his own.
Todoroki Shouto ran away when he was ten and eventually stumbled into meeting the Midoriya-Abe family. As far as he and Izuku are concerned, they're brothers. Shouto is known as Nogitsune to Izuku's Kyuubi.
The main villain group Izuku leads is known as the Ninth Sphere. It includes Ochako (Inazami), Tenya (Fujin), Neito (Copycat), Ojiro (Wukong), Momo (Tyche), Setsuna (Nike), and Inasa (Typhoon)
Izuku is mentored by a mysterious figure who goes by Atlas.
Bakugou Katsuki was killed when he and Izuku were five years old.

Inko x All Might x Hisashi Midoriya is a powerhouse of a ship.
Izuku having two 'normal' parents and a second dad who happens to be the Number 1 hero.
Inko gets two husbands who adore her and treat her like the queen she is.
Hisashi has a gorgeous wife, perfect son and a husband whose abs and ass he can stare at without being told off.
And as for Toshinori, he has a wonderful family he can come home to every night. When his days have been tough he knows he has a son waiting to hug him when he walks in the front door. He knows his kind and loving husband and wife will hold him close and let him cry if he needs to in the safety of their bed.
They manage to keep it a secret from the public, only the Bakugos, Nighteye and Gran Torino know the truth. At least until someone throws rotten food at Toshinori after a horrible accident in which over a hundred people die.
Toshinori tries not to show how much the civilian's words hurt, but he could never hide his emotions from his family. And it just so happened that Hisashi was among those saved.
Cue one Hisashi Midoriya, 5ft 10 and covered in blood, standing in front of a filthy 7ft tall All Might screaming obscenities at the guy responsible. He makes sure the man knows how much Toshinori has given up to save their worthless asses, and tells the shocked man to meet him behind the police station for a fist fight if he still has more to say.
That evening the Midoriya-Yagis sit in Might Tower while Toshinori's PR team give Hisashi the telling off of a lifetime. Hisashi just sits their smugly, holding one of Toshinori's hands while Izuku and Inko care for him in their own way (food, cake and cuddles).
"I regret nothing and as soon as my hand isn't broken I'm having that fight." Hisashi declares.
"Hisashi!"
"No!"
"Dad!"
"Hisashi yes. Besides, it's not like I told them Toshi's a botto-!"
"HISASHI!"
Izuku runs out screaming with his ears covered while his Papa and Mum tell his Dad off. Hisashi refuses to apologise.
-
Toshi is the filling in this InkoToshiSashi sandwich. It's like having a giant hotdog in a tiny bun.

Alright, we figured out what jobs Shigaraki brothers offering, but I wonder: what job Inko is ready to propose?
I mean, pretty sure she need some assistance with quirkless child and extra excuse of the husband. Maybe she's need nanny?
Or with UA's dysfunctional way of teaching she might consider personal tutor?
I think Inko's #1 need is a divorce lawyer. Even if Hisashi isn’t AFO, he’s still a lousy husband and absentee father. The Dad for One situation obviously poses a high risk of child abduction and vaulting. Even worse, AFO has @gentrychild’s hell lawyer.
It won't be easy for Inko to find a lawyer who can't be threatened or bribed by AFO. She needs someone ready to spit death in the eye, with the loophole skills of a demon and the killer instinct of a Predator. I nominate Elle Woods for the honor.
Elle (Conducting an exorcism of hell lawyer): What, like it’s hard?
I also nominate Judge Abe from Turnabout: The Ultimate Fanboy Showdown to judge this divorce case.
#Elle can slay AFO in court and criticize his fashion sense too#Elle: whoever told you that no show socks were in fashion was seriously disturbed!

Hisashi Igawa in Pitfall (Hiroshi Teshigahara, 1962)
Cast: Hisashi Igawa, Sumie Sasaki, Kazuo Miyahara, Kunie Tanaka, Sen Yano, Kei Sato. Screenplay: Kobo Abe, based on his teleplay. Cinematography: Hiroshi Segawa. Production design: Kiyoshi Awazu. Film editing: Fusako Shuzui. Music: Toshi Ichiyanagi, Yuji Takahashi, Toru Takemitsu.
Hiroshi Teshigahara's first feature film, and the first in his trilogy of collaborations with writer Kobo Abe that also includes Woman in the Dunes (1964) and The Face of Another (1966), is a fascinating blend of documentary realism and fantasy, a murder mystery and a ghost story. Set in the coal-mining region of Kyushu, the southernmost of the Japanese islands, it follows a miner (HIsashi Igawa) who travels around looking for work, accompanied by his young son (Kazuo Miyahara). He is surprised one day to be offered a job by a company he had never worked for before, hired on the basis of a photograph he didn't know had been taken of him. When he reports to the location he finds only a deserted village, whose sole resident appears to be a woman (Sumie Sasaki) who runs a candy shop. She explains that the mine shut down after a cave-in, and that she's owed some money and is waiting there for word from a man she knows. When he sets out to look for whoever summoned him there, he is followed by a man (Kunie Tanaka) wearing a white suit and carrying a briefcase. Unnerved by this silent follower, he begins to run, but the man at first keeps pace with him and then draws a knife from his briefcase and stabs the miner to death, then tosses the knife into the nearby marshes. Returning to the village, the man gives the shopkeeper a large amount of money and gives her detailed instructions on what to tell the police when they arrive, including a precise description of the murderer. And then the fantasy begins: The miner's ghost arises from his corpse and discovers he can't communicate with the living. Moreover, when the police and reporters arrive at the crime scene, they identify the victim as Otsuka, the head of a miners' union working nearby. Otsuka (Igawa) is a doppelgänger for the murdered miner. And so the complications mount, as we learn that Otsuka's union is at odds with a rival union headed by Toyama (Sen Yano). More deaths take place and other ghosts appear, some, like the miner, filled with frustration that they can't help reveal the truth about their murders. Finally, the only living person who knows what really took place is the miner's young son, who has witnessed the various murders. But the film ends with the orphaned boy setting out on a road that extends off to the horizon, carrying his secrets into an unknown future. Hiroshi Segawa's eloquent black-and-white cinematography and the minimalist, percussive score composed by Toshi Ichiyanagi, Yuji Takahashi, and Toru Takemitsu -- the last-named, a frequent collaborator with Teshigahara, is credited as "sound director" -- give the film its fine, nervous edge.
