4x07 Review
The writer's threw us a bone and gave us a somewhat lighter episode this week, probably to make up for the angst coming at us in "Witt's End". That's not to say "Hold Me Now" is without its share of strife- the Walker family continues to deliver on the dramatics (and I wouldn't have them any other way).
Today, I'm going to shake things up a bit and focus more on specific characters rather than specific plots. That's just the way it's lining up in my head with how condensed the plotlines were this episode.
Let's start off with the shortest character line this episode: Abby and Bonham's Great Retirement Debate.
This one starts with Bonham complimenting Liam's PT. During this conversation, Bonham finds out that Ben and Abby are officially going into business together with their wedding planning at the ranch, something that catches Bonham by surprise. Abby can do as she pleases, but this is his ranch too and, as her husband, he should know more about what she's up to.
Later, after his and Stella's quick self defense lesson, he confronts Abby on her making that choice without him. After all, this is not his idea of what their retirement looks like. Abby rebuffs him and makes an odd comment about supporting her son's dreams and they get into a staring contest, leaving Stella in a very awkward situation.
I'm not gonna lie, this is one of my least favorite stories they've given us this season. I understand they need to give these characters something to do but this whole thing feels trite compared to what's going on in the rest of the show and it doesn't seem to fit their relationship much, especially with all the development they had. At least the other characters are having interesting reactions to it.
Moving on, let's look at what Stella was up to this episode.
We see that Stella finally recieved footage of the break-in at her dorm but there's not much to go on and campus police don't seem interested in doing anything (related too hard to that one). She's also getting more desperate texts from Witt about the necklace. When August once again points out that they should probably loop Cordell in, she again rejects it. At this point, they're in too deep and telling him would only land them in more trouble.
August makes another good point in telling her they need to play a little offense. Until they get the necklace, she's in danger. If she won't get protection from their dad, she needs to learn how to take better care of herself. This prompts her to go back home. While she was looking for Cordell, she finds Bonham and he's more than happy to give her some self-defense lessons. Let's hope that's enough.
Next, let's talk August.
This one starts off in the morning, with Cordell and August talking in the kitchen. August offers to do a make-up family dinner when Geri gets back from her trip and Cordell accepts, acknowledging that he may have been wrong about why he and Stella went AWOL. However, August is still stuck with a 5pm curfew.
This is also the day of his bootcamp graduation, which is the entire crew finishing an obstacle course. Everyone who finishes the course in under 8 minutes will be a step ahead at the military training. Durin ghte early practice run we see August is at the head of the pack and one student is struggling more than the others. Trey reminds them that it's never too late to help otu a struggling trooper as they all need to be able to rely on each other before they break to run it again.
We pick up here when it's time for the actual run. August runs the course very well, so well that he's on track to break a record. But, just as he's about to finish, we see him look behind to see the student who was struggling from earlier. After a moment of hesitation, he runs back to give the student advice and encourage him through the rest of the course. Both of them still finish on time and Trey looks on with pride.
Side note: Trey has officially made it up to August for lying to him about still being a guidance counselor way back at the end of season 2.
While everyone is celebrating, we see a brief flash of disappointment on August's face when he processes that Cordell wasn't there to witness it. He puts a smile back on when Trey comes over to congratulate him and ask if he's ready for bootcamp. For the first time, we see August hesitate a bit about his military career as he says he's not sure and that he has a lot of options. Whether this indecision is related to Cordell's absence is unclear but it's nice to see him considering other options for his life.
Up next (for better or for worse) is Cassie and her work/life dilemna.
We start with Cassie arriving at work- and Luna arriving right behind her. We also get her calling him by his first name, David. As they head to the conference room to get back to the case, we get a conversation about their potential relationship- or rather why Cassie doesn't really want to explore one publicly. Not only is she up for lieutenant, but after everything with Kevin she doesn't want to rush into another workplace relationship. Luna respects that but we still get some playful banter.
Side note: I'm glad to hear there are candidates from outside the office; I feel like that makes this all more suspenseful than if it was just Trey and Cassie.
Cordell immediately gets them all focused on the job, starting with running down the suspect lists to make sure they have up-to-date information. While this doesn't seem to lead them much of anywhere at first, Cordell points them at a potential lead which- unfortunately- doesn't lead much of anywhere. Cassie and Luna are both disappointed, but understanding. It wasn't that likely that a grainy security camera that caught a partial on a guy's face would grant them a concrete lead right away. However, they both notice that Cordell is taking this whole case very hard and won't listen to anyone who tells him to take it easy.
This only adds to how overwhelmed Cassie feels by the case. The Jackal is not going to be an easy killer to catch and now she's seen it wreack havoc on both rangers and civilians. She asks Luna for advice on how he keeps it all from getting to him and he has an idea: karaoke.
While Cassie is apprehensive of this idea at first, she's more than happy to try it out. And we the audience are treated to both of them singing in between them getting closer to each other. While it does seem like their relationship is moving a bit fast, I can't blame Cassie one bit for wanting to jump on that.
Side note: I refuse to believe anyone would cheat on Luna.
The next day, Cassie and Luna are more than willing to leave the office after James dismisses them from a good day's work. However, Cordell's reluctance to move on gives them pause. They listen to Cordell's questionable theory on the zookeeper and, when Cassie realizes he's not going going to let it go, she offers to go with him and Luna is right behind her.
The zoo search is short but intense and, surprisingly, they do find something. Whether this is related to the Jackal or not is still up in the air but it's enough to call in the cavalry and check it out. While this is all going on, James takes the time to let Cassie know he approves of her and Luna, even though it's none of his business. This gives Cassie the confidence she needs to hold Luna's hand at the crime scene, which is a very sweet moment.
And now, the moment you've all been waiting for: Let's talk about Cordell.
As we all predicted would happen the moment he picked up that notebook, Cordell is completely throwing himself into this case. It's clear he's taking his responsibility as leader seriously in James' stead and he's not going to let his old partner down again. He's not going to stop until this lunatic is off the streets, regardless of the consequences.
At least, that's the intensity he gives off at work while he struggles to make connections between their potential leads and what little they know about the Jackal. I noticed he relied heavily on James' personal notes during this episode, which I think speaks a lot to the trust between them. Even though Cordell knew this case made James a bit crazy, he's still trusting his old partner's judgement here.
While he's leading the game at work, he's letting things slide at home, missing out on family dinner in favor of eating cereal and reading James' notebook again. When Abby tries to confront him on this, he assures her that everything is fine. He just has work to do. She accepts that answer, but I doubt that will last very long.
After the disenheartening failure of their first lead, Cordell seems more determined than ever to find some kind of connection between the Jackal and their suspect list, diving down to a former zookeeper that doesn't really have any of the hallmarks they're looking for. He's so determined to find that connection that he's willing to risk missing August's bootcamp graduation to check out the old zoo, which just happens to be near the Jackal's first kill. Despite the stretch of the lead and the fact that this could wait a day, he insists on going right away and lets Cassie and Luna tag along.
Side note: I have to wonder if he really thought he could search a whole zoo and make it back in time for August.
As they search the zoo, Cordell finds footprints in the mud and soon finds a strange figure to hunt down. He gets close, but doesn't get their man, getting a concussion and a good look at his shoes instead. While it's more than they had before, he's not satisfied. He wants to catch the Jackal above all else, even at risk to his own life.
Later, he comes home with his work duffle to find Liam sitting at his dining table. And he's got a lot to say, starting with berating Cordell for missing August's event. This leads into him pointing out how he's been ignoring Stella's needs after the break in. He then goes as far as to compare this current case to the Rodeo Kings mission- Cordell leaving his kids behind for work and leaving Liam to pick up the pieces.
Cordell brushes him off, insisting that he- and his kids- are fine and Liam can back very far off. Liam leaves the house in a huff, leaving Cordell to go back to his Jackal Investigation Porch, where he drops the duffle bag. He puts on gloves and we see that the bag is full of evidence, including some rope. We then get a very odd sequence where Cordell wraps the wrist around his own wrist and gets flashes of images of similar rope going over a victim's wrists. Which leaves us with the very big question of: What the fuck?
And that wraps up this week's episode. As usual, I'm left with far more questions than answers. Why does this retirement plot with Abby and Bonham need to be dragged out so long? Why did they tease us with Liam being an addict and just drop it? Will August ever convince Stella to own up to everything? Why is Luna so perfect and does that mean he's the Jackal?
Hopefully we'll start getting more answers next week. See y'all then!

Just finished watching Walker and I loved it! I especially loved the quiet interludes between different characters: Cordell and Maybelline, Stella and Ben, Cordell and August (crying!), and of course, my favorite heads of the family, Bonham and Abby!
For once, Stella's storyline isn't annoying to me. I think her feelings are very realistic (and thank you, Ben, for explaining to her that they were normal). I'm interested to see where they go from here, and especially to find out why Witt was at Geri's in the first place.
Can I also talk about that scene between Cordell and Augie? I knew August was growing up (and up, and up... lol), but to see current-day Augie juxtaposed with that heart-breaking flashback... dang, that boy was a baby when he started! I can completely understand Cordell's reluctance to let him make such a monumental decision that will eventually take him away from home.
Loved seeing Jeff's real-life wife play Trey's date, and I'm glad Cassie has decided to stick around as a ranger!
(Shout out for the Detective Luna mention... so... when are we going to see him on screen???)
Anyway, it was a great episode and I'm excited to see what happens next!

Walker Season 4 plots I want to see
Liam telling Cordi about what had happened with Stella and Sadie and Cordi freaking out over the fact that his little girl was nearly shot and the person responsible for has now disappeared and Cordi has no idea if he can he keep his kids safe because what if Stella had been shot instead of Witt and what if the next time Witt came back and he wasn't home would Stella and Auggie be safe and now he also has to tell Bonham and Abby and Cassie and Trey as well (I wonder how that conversation will go) and on top of all that the The Jackal is back so Cordi now has to deal with the fact that the serial killer who essentially tore apart James and Kelly's relationship and who they couldn't catch has returned and wonder if his family was going to be caught in the crossfire of the serial killer as well
As far as Geri is concerned I would love to see Geri be Cordi's rock as he is dealing with everything that's going on both professionally and personally as well
As for Cordi I want him to to be able to protect his kids and the rest of the family and be a rock for James with the Jackal's return and get to go on an actual date with Geri since we never got the chance to see them go on an actual date (2x14 doesn't count since they broke up in that episode)

Embers IV
Chapter IV: the company you keep
Summary of series: Katie moves from Peachtree, Georgia, to L.A. with her son, Alex to start fresh after the death of her husband. When she meets Evan Buckley, a young firefighter, she falls fast but will her son be so quick to accept Evan into his life?
Summary of chapter: The time has finally come for Katie and Alex to have dinner with Evan and his team at the firehouse. She’s nervous and he’s reluctant. Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Evan is micromanaging Bobby’s cooking and telling everyone what they can and cannot say.
Warning: Fluff
Author’s Note: After last night’s episode had me on the edge of my seat, I thought it was time for a short chapter with some fluff. A few more chapters and I will have some very ‘angsty,’ dramatic chapters for everyone to indulge in. They’re pretty clear in my head so I hope it translates when I finally write it out. Anyway, until then, I hope you enjoy this chapter and keep reading the series! Cheers, xx! 😘

Evan’s P.O.V.
“Thank you for cooking, Bobby,” you said, standing in front of your captain in the kitchen, “but can you just like... keep a closer eye on it?”
“A closer eye on it?” Bobby said, raising his eyebrows at you, “Buck, relax. Everything is going to be fine. I know what I’m doing here okay?”
“Her kid’s only 8. I want to make sure he actually eats th--” You started but stopped when you realized what you sounded like, “sorry, Bobby. I’m just gonna.. go.” You said, pointing to another area of the room before heading there.
“He’s really stressing,” Eddie said to Bobby, laughing as he offered to help, “he must really like her huh?”
“Seems like it,” Bobby added, instructing Eddie to set the table, “I just hope this one is different. You know? He had a string of hook ups before Abby and then she left, then he met Ali and she couldn’t handle him at his worst.”
“She is different,” Eddie answered, “but she is also a mom. She’ll choose her son every time, so I just hope Buck’s ready for that...” He looked over at Christopher, knowing how well Buck took care of him during the Tsunami and afterwards but you were curious how he’d fair with a kid who he’d have to impress.
“I think he understands that but I understand the concern. That’s why he has us.” Bobby replied, bringing Eddie back to the conversation
“Okay listen up everyone!” You called everyone together, “there are some ground rules for tonight.” The group laughed, sitting around the table thinking that you was joking
“You’re serious?” Chimney said, noticing the scowl you gave the group
“Evan, relax. We’re not going to embarrass you” Maddie added but the firefighters in the room disagreed
“We have some stories she’d probably love to hear” Hen said.
“Yes, exactly. Don’t say any of that!” you remarked, “We’re not just trying to impress her, we’re also trying to impress her son...”
“We?” Athena said as she came up the stairs with Harry, May and Michael
“Yes, we. We’re a family and the impression you make reflects on the impression I make. Got it?” They hummed as you tried to make your case, going through a list of topics you wanted them to stay away from, but the group wasn’t paying too much attention to you.
“Buck,” Maddie said, walking over to you, “calm down. These guys love you and, from what you’ve told me about this girl, she’s not likely to run from a couple embarrassing stories.”
“I’m just nervous. I really like this girl and everyone here is my family. I want everyone to get along.”
“And they will. But you gotta let it happen naturally; let them talk about what they want to talk about. Okay?”
“Okay.” You agreed but took a deep breath, still nervous that this could be a huge disaster.

Katie’s P.O.V
“Okay, buddy,” You said to Alex as you prepared to head out, “you ready to go?” He nodded but suddenly ran to his room; coming out with the plastic T-Rex that Jesse got for him two Christmases ago.
“I wanna take him with me.” He said and you smiled, agreeing before saying that it was time to go, opening the door to head to the cab, “Nick?” You questioned in surprise as your teenage client stood outside the door with his large Bodyguard
“Hey,” he said, inviting himself in, “can I hang with you two for a bit tonight? Maybe even stay the night?”
“Uhh,” you hesitated, looking between Nick and his bodyguard, “actually...”
“I just don’t feel safe at home. There’s some psycho stalking me or something. I can feel it.”
“That’s what you’ve got Big Jeff for!” you tried
“Yeah.. but Big Jeff doesn’t speak”
“Come on Jeff. Big Guy. You’ll keep him company right?” He just looked at you, slight sympathy in his eyes but didn’t say a word, “look, Nick, I would love to hang out with you tonight--”
“GREAT!” he interrupted
“But,” you continued, “Alex and I already have plans and they can’t be cancelled. I’m sorry.”
“That’s cool. I’ll just come with!” he interjected and your mouth gaped, “Big Jeff too!” You felt Alex tug at the hem of her dress and knew you’d regret it if you didn’t let Nick tag along.
“Fine. Just let me make a call first.” You stepped away from the boys to call Evan quickly to let him know the change of plans
“Hey..” you greeted, somberly
“Hey!” he replied brightly, “you on your way?”
“Yes, but there’s been a slight change of plans.”
“Change of plans? What do you mean?”
“One of my clients is freaked out that someone is stalking him. So he’s gonna tag along tonight... Is that okay? He’ll take care of himself while we’re there. We don’t need to watch him or anything.”
“Oh”
“I know. I’m so sorry. I didn’t know how to tell him he couldn’t come. He’s a good kid, I promise, I think he’s just lonely.”
“No problem. I’ll let everyone know, I’m sure we’ll have enough food for everyone.”
“Thank you, Evan.” You ended the call and took a deep breath before directing the boys out of the house and into the cab that was waiting outside.
xx
“This looks amazing, Captain Nash!” you exclaimed
“Thank you, Katie,” he smiled, “but please, call me Bobby.” You smiled back at him and guided Alex through the room while Evan introduced the two of them to the rest of the team. Alex kept his attention focused on his T-Rex, though, and you were worried what Evan’s friends might think of him.
“I’m sorry,” you tried, “he’s just nervous. Alex, sweetie, can you say Hello?”
“Hi” he whispered but ran to wear Christopher was sitting
“I’m sorry. He’s usually better than that...”
“It’s alright,” Athena said, “I understand. Trust me. Any time, I introduced Harry or May to someone new, they hide behind me.”
“And don’t think for a second that Evan wasn’t the same way when he was little” a long-haired brunette chimed in
“You must be Maddie!” you exclaimed, excited to finally meet Evan’s sister
“That’s me!” she smiled, shaking your outstretched hand, “your son is adorable. Buck says he’s 8?”
“He listened. Good to know,” you giggled, “yes. He’ll be nine in a few months. I can’t believe how fast time is going by.” Athena nodded and raised her eyebrows in agreement
“Ain’t that the truth.” Athena said and you laughed as everyone began heading to the table and found your seat next to Evan; Alex sitting beside you. The meal was great and the company was better, the conversation, however, wavered between great and awkward. You noticed Nick’s bodyguard get up and begin to pace around the space.
“So... what is Katie short for?” Chimney asked
“Hmm,” you hummed, swallowing the bite of food still in your mouth, “Katerina. Mom was a big Katarina Witt fan before I was born so she named me after her.” You smiled, placing your hand on Evan’s knee, “what does Chimney stand for? I tried to pry it out of Evan but he did not budge.”
“It’s a secret. I can’t tell you. With time, maybe. But I’ll have to trust you first.” The table laughed and you narrowed her eyes sarcastically at him, which he was all too quick to return
“Alex, buddy, how do you like LA?” Bobby asked
“It’s okay, I guess,” he said simply, “I miss the peaches though.” You laughed, grateful he was able to make some kind of joke, even if he didn’t realize it. Evan took your hand in his and you turned to smile at him, tilting your head to fully look at him for a minute
“You moved here last year?” Hen asked, bringing you away from Evan
“Mmm, no,” you began, swallowing the sip of wine that you’d just taken, “a couple months ago. We needed a fresh start after last year but there were a lot of things we had to get in order before we left. So we’ve been here for about 3 months.”
“Right,” Hen adjusted herself and you were unsure if she should continue her questioning, “because of your husband...” Evan squeezed your hand before huffing at Hen. Nick’s bodyguard, Jeff, suddenly started to move closer to the table as if he couldn’t hear the conversation from where he was standing and wanted to know more.
“Hen!” Evan scowled and Hen raised her hands in defense
“No no,” you smiled, “it’s okay. Yes. My husband was a Navy SEAL and he passed away last year while he was overseas. It was hard, unbelievably so--” you said, brushing your son’s hair to the side-- “which is why I decided to find a job here and move us out to live near my Mom. She moved away after my Dad died, so I guess running to L.A. is genetic.” The group laughed and you squeezed Evan’s hand to reassure him you were fine.
“So what do you do for work?” Athena asked
“Ahh, me!” Nick chimed in, making you practically choke on her wine, “I mean, that’s where I come in. She’s my saviour.”
“I’m Nick’s publicist. He showed up unannounced at my house last minute which is why he’s here.”
“What’s that like? Being a publicist?” May asked and you glanced at Athena, to see what kind of answer she should give
“It’s great!” you decided, “it’s a lot of uncertainty and, depending on the clients you get, it can be extremely taxing. I’ve been lucky enough to have easy clients with good heads on their shoulders, like this one, but some people are tasked with looking after Politicians and entire businesses. It’s a lot of fun though, I really enjoy my work.” You smiled, a gesture that May returned
“I’ve gone through five publicists,” Nick admitted, “but Katie’s the best. I think it’s ‘cause she’s a mom. She seems to know what’s good for me and what can keep me grounded.”
“I think it’s time we go” Jeff interrupted
“Nah, Big Jeff, we’re good. I’m enjoying the company.” Nick tried to convince him but when you looked down at Alex and Christopher, you decided to take Jeff’s side
“You know what, it looks like the boys are getting pretty tired. I should probably get Alex home anyway. But we’ve really enjoyed tonight and getting to know everyone.” You said sincerely, “I hope we can do it again sometime.”
“I’ll take you home” Evan sad as he stood up
“Su--” you attempted to agree only to be stopped by the bodyguard
“I’ll do that, Firefighter.”
“Excuse me?” Evan’s voice was harsh and his face contorted into anger
“I can take care of them. You just stay here.. with your trucks and your little toys.“ You were unsure of where this was coming from and it was clear that the group was uncomfortable
“You’re not saving the world, Big Jeff, you’re just his bodyguard. You don’t need to protect her.” Evan said through gritted teeth
“Okay then!” You interjected, “that’s enough testosterone for tonight. Evan can I talk to you downstairs please?” He agreed but his eyes never left Jeff’s until he followed you down the stairs. The group tried to subtly listen to the conversation but they rushed to the Bannister and were easily visible to you and Evan
“What the hell is going on?” Evan started
“I don’t know but it’s just a ride home. He’s gotta take Nick home anyway, so it’s not a big deal. Just relax.”
“But why is he antagonizing me?“
“I honestly don’t know. I didn’t think you did anything. Everything was fine. Just let me talk to him on the ride home, okay?” You pouted at him, intertwining your fingers with his, hoping you’d get your way
“Fine.“ He agreed just as Nick, Alex and Jeff walked past, Jeff glaring at Evan, and Alex waiting for you, “just be careful please? i don’t trust this guy. I’ve got a bad feeling about him.” You laughed, pushing yourself up onto your tiptoes to kiss Evan gently
“I will, I promise.” You replied, “I really do have to get Alex home though. I’ll see you tomorrow?“ He nodded before giving you one more kiss and turning his attention to Alex
“Hey,” he leaned down, “did you have fun tonight?”
“Yeah” Alex answered and Evan smiled
“Good. So you think we can do it again?”
“I don’t know. I guess. Maybe earlier? I’m tired.” He whined but Evan knew not to take it personally
“Sounds like a plan, big guy.” You gave Evan a hug goodbye, taking your sons small hand in yours as they began to walk out, stopping suddenly to ask Evan a question
“What do you think they thought of me?“ You gestured to the group above, knowing they’ve been spying the entire time, laughing softly when they backed away from the Bannister. “Everyone always loves Alex, so I’m not worried about them but it seemed like, before all of this, that they kind of adored me...”
“I don’t see why they wouldn’t.” He cooed and you smiled brightly at him
“Yeah, you’re right.” You said triumphantly before walking out of the firehouse, meeting Jeff at the door where he put a hand on your back and you could imagine Evan would be angry at the gesture so you tried to quickly diffuse it by turning around to wave goodbye. Making the whole night feel like a success, no matter how it may have ended.

Books I Read in 2020
Normally I just post a list, but this time there are charts and graphs! Full list below the cut.
Overall statistics by genre:
The funniest part of this is the difference between the number of days it took me to read a romance book compared to a sci-fi/fantasy book, which, in fairness, was largely due to one book that I started in October 2019 and finished in April 2020.
Rating and count of books by genre:
Unfortunately for the non-fiction genre, I only read one book and the final chapter pissed me off.
Ratings over time:
These seem to be indicating that I either got nicer in my ratings or got better at picking books I would like. The different sizes are for page count.
Publication date compared to date I finished reading the book:
This excludes the three books published prior to 2000, which make the graph impossible to read. For the curious, the books in question are Persuasion, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Castle in the Air.
Content:
For this I’ll note that the broad categories of queer, POC, and disabled characters are because 1) I don’t know how to manage the one-to-many relationships between books and character classifications in my spreadsheet and 2) sometimes authors don’t use labels. I might try to do something about this next year, and suggestions are welcome.
The labels that are too small to read are as follows:
Setting: historical fantasy, sci-fi time travel
Location: Africa (a fictional country therein, not the entire continent), South Korea, Nigeria, Singapore, Wales
Pairings: M/M/F, M/M/F/F
Authors, series, etc.:
This is a lot more useful when you can use the dashboard interactively, unfortunately.
My reading habits:
The labels that are too small are:
Format read: physical book
Re-read: re-read
Type: short story, anthology
And finally, a kind of useless Gantt chart:
This was a pretty decent reading year, overall. I think my goal next year will be to be more deliberate about my book choices, and also try to finish anything I own that I haven’t read yet. Which is a pretty intimidating book list, actually :/
If anyone wants to do a buddy read, I would be down for it, so please lmk!

4x03 Review
After the lightness of last week's episode, "Lessons From The Gift Shop" definitely didn't pull any punches. I hardly even know what to talk about first so I'm just going to go in the order of which plots are sticking in my mind the most.
First up, our first major Cordri conflict of the season!
We start off with Cordell talking to Liam and Trey about possible next steps with Geri. The last time he took the "I love you" step was with Emily and things are very different now than they were in high school. He doesn't know how to express that and he gets more advice than he really asked for, but agrees with the idea of giving Geri a drawer at his house.
Side note: I adored Liam and Trey saying "I love you" to each other but I was also on Cordell's side here. It's never that simple!
Later, he shows Geri the drawer he emptied in his dresser and, after some initial awkwardness, she graciously accepts it and even offers to clean up the things he was previously keeping in the drawer. He decides to trust her judgement and leaves her to it- a decision he questions later when he returns to find out she donated a shirt that Emily got him during a spring break trip.
While Cordell is, understandably, upset about this, Abby gives her special brand of two cents. It's not wrong for him to be sentimental about the shirt and what it meant between him and Emily but it being gone doesn't change the memories. Geri may not have been in the right to donate it without asking first, but that doesn't mean she doesn't care about him or their past with Emily. Sometimes you just have to let things go and move on.
Side note: This was a very good scene but in the moment I was too busy being mad with Cordell to really appreciate it XD
Later, at the fundraiser, Cordell approaches Geri to apologize for how he acted earlier and she apologizes for messing up. We also found out the mug he broke earlier in the season was Hoyt's and he's extremely apologetic about it, even fixing it later in the episode.
We also got the moment we've all been waiting for: Cordell telling Geri he loves her <3. A bumpy road to get here but it was all worth it.
Next, let's talk about probably the biggest part of this episode: the return of Sadie and the escalation of everything with Stella.
We start of with a flashback giving us confirmation that Sadie was the one that led the charge on lying about knowing Witt. I can't help but feel like there's a lot more she's not telling Stella, but we'll have to wait to see about that.
Next, Stella wakes up to Sadie pounding on her door. It seems she's finally answered all of Stella's missed calls and she's not happy about it. Stella is, understandably, freaking out about the writing she found on her window. Sadie is more than willing to chalk it up to coincidence and nonsense and even erases it to stop Stella from calling the detective that was investigating the case. Which only serves to annoy Stella further as she finally starts taking the reins in this situation, forcing Sadie to realize that there may be more too this. Whatever they thought about the break-in at the time, it's becoming clear that things are getting serious now. Sadie only gets on board when they find Stella's car doused in gasoline with a picture of Witt and a pack of matches on the dashboard but she's willing to listen to Stella after that.
While Stella hits a roadblock talking to campus security, Sadie finds a lead on who Witt's "Uncle Mike" might be. Both girls are ready to investigate but Stella has to attend the fundraiser at Ranger HQ or her family will be concerned. Sadie tags along to try to keep things normal and they do- mostly.
Side note: I did squeal at Sadie and Geri's reunion and mad props to Geri for realizing something was up between those two.
Later, both girls are feeling a little better about their situation- only to have their world come to a stop when none other than Witt pops up in the backseat of the mustang. Things are definitely not over.
Onto a happier plotline, let's talk about Cassie and Liam's storage locker adventure.
It's time for Cassie to finish moving in to Geri's house, but first she needs to clear through some of the mess Ben's been keeping in storage for her. While she doesn't seem ready to part with most of it, as unnecessary as most of it is, some gentle prodding from Liam about getting ready for a more stable future gets her on board eventually.
Side note: I agree with Cassie about those DVDs. Never let them go!!!!
In the meantime, Liam is worried about Stella- and also about the fact that Cordell isn't listening to him about Stella. He wants Stella to try therapy but she won't do it on her own and Cordell won't join Liam in strong-arming her into it. But, as Cassie said, what worked for Liam might not necessarily be right for Stella and she's gotta figure that out on her own.
Later, at Ranger HQ, Cassie's gotten rid of most of what she doesn't need from the storage locker with many things prepped to be donated later in the week. She then spends part of her night shift decorating her desk while Cordell and Trey brood over the Jackal case- which it's finally time for her to be let in on. Let's hope her FBI connections are willing to work behind a ranger captain's back.
Side side note: I'm glad Liam got his nametag keychain. He deserves it.
Next, let's talk about August's stint in bootcamp.
Leading up to this episode, I speculated over what the synopsis meant when they said bootcamp didn't go the way August thought. I thought it would either be August getting a funny comeuppance or him having a serious think about if the military was right for him and his future. Somehow this episode managed to give us both.
We start off with August beign very cocky about bootcamp. He shows up late, calls Trey "dude" and isn't super accepting of the consequences of those actions. He does put in the work during training and talks to Trey after to apologize and see what he can do to be better.
Trey gives him a pretty motivational speech and explains that while August is good at working on his own, he needs to start getting better at working as a team, especially if he's serious about going to the military. He would be going into very dangerous situations where a lot of people are counting on him to be on time and know what he's doing. Trey's confident that he can do it, he just needs to practice at it like everything else.
Unfortunately, August takes this advice a little too seriously and decides to dedicate himself fully to his military dreams by getting rid of all "distractions" in his room at the fundraiser later in the episode. This includes pretty much everything he had in his room related to music, including his piano, some speakers, and a collection of records. Abby, Bonham, and Trey are all understandably worried when they see this. Trey does speak up and assure August that he can learn to work as a team while still keeping the parts of himself that make him an individual, but it's after August has given up a lot.
It really does seem like August's military hopes are largely born out of wanting his family to love be proud of him again and I can only hope he finds a proper reason to go that route if he doesn't back out altogether.
With an episode like that, it's no wonder I left with more questions than answers. What is Sadie hiding? Where has she been hiding all this time? Will her relationship with Witt protect her and Stella? What's next for Cordell and Geri? Will Cassi's FBI connections help Walker and Trey keep James out of the loop? Will August figure out what he wants before it's time to make that serious committment?
Hopefully we'll get some answers next week!

Wingmen || BUDDIE
Buck stretched out his arms in front of him, craning his neck from side to side as he stretched his body out. He hadn't been somebody's wingman in quite some time and wanted to mentally prepare himself. And at least this time he was pretty sure he wouldn't end up taking the person his friend was trying to flirt with... that didn't end well, for all parties involved. Besides, Buck wasn't Buck 1.0 anymore, so even if he wasn't going with Josh to a gay bar, he'd still be pretty sure of that. No, Buck had moved on from all of that, from the parties and the meaningless sex and the rule breaking. He had Abby to thank for it, really, she had showed him that he could be domestic and committed. Even if she'd turned around and broken his heart, he supposed he still owed her plenty.
He debated driving his car, to make sure he could remain the sober voice of reason for Josh, but decided against it, taking an Uber instead... just because he wasn't looking to hook up, didn't mean he couldn't drink. And really, he had no qualms about enjoying himself, gay bar or not. He had bartened in South America for a year after leaving (~running away from~) home, and had plenty of fun there, dancing with people. Men, women, didn't matter, it was only dancing and drinking and he wasn't a nun. He felt bad for saying no to Eddie, he loved spending time with him and Chris more than any two people in the whole world (even Maddie, not that he'd admit that to her), but he also wanted to help Josh. The guy was suffering and who was Buck to say no to some help? When the Uber pulled outside of the club, he got out and spotted Josh outside of the club, and gave him a wide grin, jogging over to him. "Hey, man... ready to get some hot ass?" Josh gave him a look, "don't do that." Then he paused, "but, fine. Yes."
Some time later, he sat at the bar, watching as Josh looked disappointed after talking to somebody and feeling much more sober than he should. "This sucks," Josh said, coming back to Buck with an empty glass, flagging the bartender down for another. Buck laughed, "hey man, you have to kiss a few frogs before you find a prince, right?" He said, Josh making a face at the words. Josh ordered two shots but before he could grab them, Buck was quickly taking the two shots that had just been placed down and throwing them both back, right after one another and ignoring Josh's protests. The bartender was quick to replace them, throwing a wink in Buck's direction as he did. Buck smirked and nodded and turned back to a frowning Josh.
"How do you do that?" Buck shrugged, ignoring the question, "if it makes you feel any better, that hot brunette at the bar there has been making eyes at you for the past," he glanced at his watch, "40 minutes. Probably should go talk to him. I already told him you're a catch." Josh turned to look and then looked back at Buck with his mouth agape. "Why didn't you tell me, you dickhead." "You needed to get some stuff out of your system first... now go get em, tiger." He winked at him and Josh rolled his eyes, quick to take the two shots before Buck could again, causing the firefighter to pout. "Rude... oh, thank you," he grinned, as the bartender slid another drink to him and Josh rolled his eyes. "Unbelievable," he muttered, but took the two shots and approached the man Buck had pointed out, who actually looked relieved to be finally speaking to the other man.
Several drinks later, Josh came back up to him, the other man in tow, "Buck... we're gonna go." Buck, whose body was buzzing with the alcohol well and truly now, looked at them both with a drunken grin, "yeah, you are... get it, Joshua." Josh laughed, "you gonna be okay?" "Yeah, yeah - I'll be fine, don't do anything I wouldn't do. Except the gay s-" "Okay, we get it! Thank you Buck, I'll text Maddie to check on you in the morning... something tells me you'll be sleeping off a massive hangover." "Pfft, I don't get hungov- oh, you're leaving okay bye!"
He watched Josh leave with the other man, and then turned back to his empty glass with a frown. "Want another," a different bartender from before asked and Buck shook his head, starting to feel a bit woozy, "nah, man, I think I'm done. But thanks." He pulled out some cash, as a tip and then took his phone out, dialling the only person his drunk brain could think of. Eddie.
Eddie had recently just returned home, first from dropping Christopher's at Aunt Pepa's place, who insisted to have him overnight on that Friday night. His son loved spending time with his aunt so Eddie was happy to leave him there any time he could. He took that time to make some needed grocery shopping to stock their cabinet for the upcoming week, and after he got home and put everything in its right place he took a shower, thinking he would spent the rest of the night simply watching some tv and telling himself he would do the laundry early the next morning.
That was pretty much the case, until his phone buzzed with an incoming message.
About ten minutes later he was starting his truck and driving to the address Buck told him he was at, and since it was already somewhat late, the streets had light traffic going on. He made it to the pub rather quick, and after he got out of the truck he looked around to see if he could make out where his friend was.
@118buck
When Eddie didn't answer the phone call, Buck had sulked. He knew he was probably busy, and he shouldn't expect his best friend to drop everything for him but he was drunk and bored and clearly not hooking up tonight given he was in a gay bar - not that he wanted to anyway. Buck 1.0 was in the past. But whoever said drunk Buck made smart decisions, regardless of being Buck 1.0 or Buck 2.0, was an idiot. Because if Eddie wasn't going to answer his call, he'd message him instead.
Eddie. Eddieeeeeeeee.
Josh ditchd me.
Bastard.
I probly shouldt have had that last shot.
Or the one b4
There was some other messages sent and in amongst that he'd managed to mention where he was to Eddie and when his friend told him to stay where he was and don't try to walk home like Buck had suggested, he made his way out of the bar. He was drunk, his body buzzing pleasantly, but he wasn't blackout drunk. He could still walk in a mostly straight line... mostly.
"Eddie!" He said, his face breaking in to a wide and genuine grin when he saw the other man getting out of his truck, "why are you here? Are you my Uber?"
There was no way Eddie wouldn't hear Buck calling out to him, especially with how drunk he seemed to be; but he didn't mind. He was just glad his friend had enough witt left to call him to pick him over to go home, instead of driving or something else also dangerous. "Kind of" he said with a chuckle as he finally walked up to him. "You texted me, you idiot. You asked me to come pick you up." He patted his shoulder. "So, Josh ditched you? I'm guessing he scored after all." He chuckled. "You didn't get any numbers yourself?"
Buck's expression turned to one of understanding when Eddie said he'd texted him, and he remembered that now. Not drunk he reminded himself, those last two shots hadn't felt like anything. "I remember," he said with a nod and then shrugged. "He did. I told you, I'm a great wingman. The best." He emphasised, pushing himself off the wall he'd been leaned against. "A couple," he laughed, "but I'm not going to use them Eddie, that would be silly." They made their way over to Eddie's truck, and Buck climbed into the passenger seat. "Wait," his head snapped around to the backseat, "where's Chris?"
Eddie chuckled as he grabbed hold on Buck's arm. "Well, I'm not that experienced in being a wingman, but I think that only applies if you helped him get with that guy, so did you?" He nodded and looked away. "Of course that'd be silly. Why would you anyway?" he said as he opened the door on the side of the passenger, then almost jumped back when Buck asked that in such an alarming way. "He's with Aunt Pepa this weekend."
Buck looked at Eddie with an almost childlike confusion on his face - "but earlier, you asked me if I wanted to come over and have pizza with you guys. Wait." His mouth opened in a small o shape, "I did interrupt some plans with that hot English teacher, did I? You didn't like send Chris off to Aunt Pepa's and then ... like ... invited her over? Am I crashing your date - I can't crash your date after I was just the most awesome wingman, my reputation will be ruined," he said, babbling.
Eddie shook his head, while trying to get Buck on the passenger's seat. "You didn't interrupt anything, Buck. I wouldn't have invited you over and have a date with her at the same time. Plus, she's my son's teacher, so I'm not sure that'd be a good idea anyway." He looked at him and shrugged. "Aunt Peppa just wanted to have him for the weekend, that's all." He sighed and shook his head. "Shut up and buckle up so we can go home, or you need me to do that for you?"
"Didn't you just say earlier today you wanted to date pretty hot brunette teacher? That's a pretty fast turnaround," Buck reached for the seatbelt, frowning when it got stuck and didn't let him pull it forward. He gave it a few tugs, unintentionally not letting it retract so it wouldn't give, and then pouted at Eddie, "it's stuck. Is your truck broken?"
Eddie sighed. "Stop pimping me out to Chris' teacher, Buck. I'll decide if I see her or not. Just rest asure, that wasn't happening tonight, so shut up already." He reached his hand out to get the seatbelt unstuck, for which he had to almost bend over Buck's lap. "There you go. Watch your head" he said before he closed the door and went around the truck quickly to get in himself. He started the motor and it wasn't long before they were heading back to Buck's place.
"Okay, sorry," Buck replied, with a tone of a pout to his voice. He supposed maybe dating your kid's teacher was frowned upon by some people so Eddie probably had a point. He craned his head to look out the window to see the houses and streets passing by, light up by the street lights. "Wait... this isn't the way to your place. I like your place." He leaned back in the seat and crossed his arms, "it's more homey and you and Chris are there. My place is boring."
Eddie had first considered taking Buck to his place and then staying on the couch downstairs to make sure his friend was taken care of when he woke up the next morning with a massive hangover; but as he heard the other talking about how boring his place was, another idea came to mind. "Fine. I'll take you to my place then. It's best if I'm there anyway, in case Aunt Peppa calls me or something." He took the next exit so he could head down the other way, to the neighborhood where his house was.
"Yay!" Buck replied, settling back into the seat happily. Eddie's place was so much more of a home than his. His was lovely, sure, it ticked all the boxes for what a lot of people looked for in an apartment - open, bright, clean. But for him, it was really just a place to crash after a long shift. And there had been no long shifts lately, obviously, because of his leg. Before he'd got to the 118, he didn't really know what a home could feel like. The house he'd grown up in never really felt safe or homey. But then he'd got to the 118, and he'd met the team and understood why some people liked being at home. Bobby and Athena's place, Hen and Karen's - and now the Diaz's. Plus, it helped that Eddie and Chris were two of his favourite people so if their house bested Bobby and Athena's for the number one spot well... he just wouldn't tell Bobby. Or Athena. Especially Athena. Through all his thoughts, he hadn't realised how tired he was - coming down from the high of the alcohol buzz - and before he realised it, he was sleeping while Eddie was still driving, snoring softly (though he would deny that later - as far as he was aware, he only snored when he was drunk, so it wasn't important information).
Eddie raised a brow when he heard a loud snoring sound coming from the passenger's seat, and when they stopped at a traffc light he turned to look at him and chuckled before he shook his head and continued driving when the light turned green. At the final stop sign before they made it to his house he turned his head to look at him again, this time lingering on the profile of his face that resulted from a street light just at the right spot. He didn't even realize he was staring, until the sound of a loud honk came from behind him, from other car with an urge to move on. He cleared his throat and looked both ways on the road before he moved too. "Wake up" he told the other and smacked his arm. "We're here." He pulled over on his driveway and turned the motor off.
Buck groaned when Eddie's hand smacked his arm, not wanting to be disturbed from his sleep. But he wasn't so drunk to know that sleep would be far more comfortable if he forced himself to get out of the car and onto Eddie's couch. "Ugh, fine," he grumbled, the five minute nap already making a valiant effort at sobering him up. He managed to unbuckle the seatbelt and slide out of the car, landing on both feet. He followed Eddie inside, flopping onto the couch as soon as it was in front of him. "I'm gonna regret this tomorrow, aren't I?" He asked, looking through his lashes up at Eddie.
Eddie walked ahead of Buck toward the door, once it was obvious the other could actually walk, then he opened it and let his friend in. "Oh, yeah. But don't worry about that. I'll have the aspirin and plenty of water at hand for you to take when you wake up. And if you feel like it, then maybe I'll throw in some breakfast too, how about that?" He guided him to where the couch was and helped him out of his jacket. "I can lend you a pair of sweats if you want a change of clothes?"
"Aww..." Buck smiled at Eddie, with an expression that could only be described as starry eyed. "You're the best, Eddie. A real life super hero." He paused and then giggled, "I guess that's why you're a firefighter. Do you feel like a hero sometimes? I keep trying... maybe one day I will." He shook his head when Eddie suggested clothes and snuggled into the couch, "mmm... no, I'm too comfy, man. Can't move. I'll just -" He unbutton his jeans, pushing them down so he could shimmy out of them without barely moving from the couch, leaving him in just a pair of boxers and his shirt. Eddie and him and the rest of the team changed in front of each other all the time at the station - even if he wasn't working right now so he didn't think anything of it. "There," he said, resting his head against the cushion on the couch and shutting his eyes and fuck he was so tired all of a sudden, "I'm good."
Eddie chuckled and shook his head. "I'm no super hero, man. Just trying to be nice with a friend, that's all." He patted his shoulder. "Well, I've heard that you've done epretty heroic things. Hen keeps telling me about it, and she's been very impressed by you." He stood back while Buck took his pants off, then went to the hallway closet to get a blanket, since the one on the couch would probably be too short for someone as big as Buck. "Okay then. See you in the morning" he said as he spread the blanket on top of Buck. "Shout if you need anything, okay? Good night, Buck." He smiled at him and turned the lights out before going into his bedroom; he leaned against the door after he closed it behind it and sighed.
Buck snorted at Eddie's comment - he didn't feel like a superhero. He kept trying, trying to be better, be stronger, be faster but he was still watching from the side lines. The last thing he did as a firefighter was be crushed by a ladder truck which hardly seems heroic. The doctors were impressed with his progress, said he was showing good signs of returning to work but there was still this lingering doubt over his head - that he'll never be good enough for the 118 again and they'd slowly forget about him. They hadn't yet, sure, they were all positive he'd be returning but if he didn't? It wouldn't take long for them to forget his existence and move on without him.
Of course Buck didn't voice any of those thoughts. He wouldn't have said them, even if he was sober and his mouth could form the words. But they still rattled around in his head, louder and louder each passing day, especially when he was home alone. "G'dnight, Eds," he said as his only reply, pulling the blanket around his chin. Eddie had clearly given him a large doona, because even with pulling it up, his feet were still covered.
END SCENE.

Walker S4 theories
My two biggest theories for Season 4 are how long Cordi, Trey, Cassie and Detective Luna will be able to keep their investigation into the Jackal's return from James and how hurt and betrayed James would feel due to Cordi lying to his face over the Jackal I'm gonna guess that this will last for the first 2 or 3 episodes
Also how long will Liam be able to keep Stella's situation quiet and given how in the promo Stella gets a threatening message on her mirror though it does look like Stella will atleast tell Auggie what's going on and I wonder how Cordi, Trey, Cassie, Ben, Abby and Bonham and James would react especially given the fact that Liam knew what was going on and yet said nothing to anyone about it (and Liam's silence actually puts Stella and Auggie's lives at risk because Noone was told this)
Stella ends up running away in order to protect her family from Witt and the female forest ranger
