Lancia Rally 037 Gruppo B, 1983. This is the actual Martini Racing 037 similar to the car that won the 1983 WRC, the last rear-wheel-drive car to do so. The 037 refers to Abarth's project code: SE037. It was developed by Lancia's rally team in collaboration with Pininfarina, Abarth, Dallara and project manager, engineer Sergio Limone. It was based on the Pininfarina-designed Lancia Montecarlo though seared only the centre-section and some body panels. The Montecarlo's transverse mid/rear engine was turned through 90º and moved forward for better weight distribution and to allow more flexibility with the rear suspension design. It was powered by a supercharged version of the Fiat's 2.0 litre DOHC 16 valve that produced 265hp

Lancia Rally 037
The majority of the development work on the Lancia Rally 037 was done by Abarth, the car was designed as a silhouette racer based on the Lancia Montecarlo however the only common part between the two cars was the central chassis section of the unibody. For homologation into the wild world of Group B rally Lancia needed to build a minimum of 200 examples of the 037 for road use and sell them to customers, this resulted in the road-legal Lancia Rally 037 Stradale version. Starting with the Lancia Montecarlo central frame section the engineers developed a tubular steel front and rear frame, the Pininfarina bodywork was designed around this in a front and rear clamshell to ensure that mechanics would have excellent access to the engine, suspension, and brakes. A supercharged 2.0 to 2.1 litre (depending on year) inline-4 cylinder engine was fitted in a mid-rear location, mounted longitudinally to allow more space for suspension components. The road-legal Stradale (Italian for “road”) version was capable of 205 hp at 7,000 rpm, with 167 ft lbs of torque at 5,000 rpm, a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph), and a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 5.8 seconds.

If you have a lot of money on hand and a passion for classic cars, you don’t necessarily have to think about a car from the 50s or 60s.
Tumblr media
Indeed, in the case of this car we must even talk about the 80s: at the beginning of that decade I was a child, it is therefore scary to think that 40 years have separated us from then: these are the years of the Audi – Lancia challenge on the rally tracks of…

Fabrizio Tabaton: il pilota, il team manager e l’imprenditore
Dire che Fabrizio Tabaton ha speso la sua vita per i rally corrisponde al vero. Prima come pilota, poi come team manager e imprenditore.

Lancia 037 Prototype, 1980. The first version of the 037 which was originally produced and owned by Abarth, is to be offered at auction. The car underwent testing both in the wind tunnel and on track and was used as a reconnaissance  vehicle in the Acropolis Rally. The car has subsequently been restored to original condition including the mid-mounted, supercharged 1995cc in its original prototype specification

Italian motorsport company Kimera Automobili has unveiled one of the cooler restomods we’ve seen lately: a modern, road-legal take on one of the baddest rally cars ever, the Lancia 037. The Abarth and Pininfarina-designed 037 won the 1983 FIA Group B World Rally title, and was the last rear-drive car to win in the WRC.
