KareKano 17-18

A bunch of stuff happened and I was confused at what to do first and so this was late lol.

I’d be referring to Arima by first name in the first half of episode 18 since it’ll talk about the other members of the Arima family.

It's finally August and Arima had sent Yukino a letter! He sent a little souvenir and tells her he'd finally return soon.

Later when Yukino is at the cafe with friends, Tsubaki tells her that she'd seen Arima with the kendo club at school and he's kinda taller now. Yukino wonders if she should join clubs as well since unlike Arima who has got a lot going for him, she's not really doing much in comparison. Rika says Yukino had been studying a lot and Yukino replies that it's something she's just expected to do. Other than studying, she has a lot of free time due to not trying to keep up an image and even finishing all of her homework early so she's not doing anything now. Tsubaki and Aya are happy to hear this and asks to copy her homework and Yukino asked them to pay if they want her help.

Tsubaki then suggest doing drama club since Yukino can act but Yukino rejects the idea. The entire time this was all going on, Tsubasa is sitting on Yukino's lap and eating food like a little gremlin lol.

When it was time to go home and Yukino is walking alone, she thinks of Arima and wonders why she becomes no good whenever he isn't around. The next few days, Yukino counts down the day when she'd see Arima again. Maho calls her later to ask her for some homework help which Yukino agrees on and visits her house.

When she gets to Maho's house, her mood seem to not have changed and Maho immediately realized Yukino is still sad about not seeing Arima and points it out. As the two studied, Yukino thinks to herself that she already knew beforehand what kind of person she was - outside of her fake persona, she's actually pretty timid. This makes her upset with herself for being unable to do anything but be depressed when Arima is out doing amazing things. Maho says that if Yukino is losing her emotional balance then it must be love cause Yukino isn't able to put her own emotions before the person she cares about hence the saying "stole your heart". Yukino is impressed by this and tells Maho she felt like calling the latter an older sister.

Maho then tells Yukino of who she likes. Maho is into a 28yo dentist who is kind and mature and this makes her want to be better to earn the guys respect.

Only one more day before she see Arima again. Knowing that it'll feel like the day is going on for so long due to the anticipation, she decided to take the dog out for a walk.

As she sat outside near the river while the dog is doing his thing, Yukino starts thinking of Arima again and tears up. She wonders if this meant she loves Arima more than she thought since she found it painful to be away from him.

Later that night, Yukino was tasked to buy soy sauce from the store and so she goes out with her dog in tow. On her way, she meets Arima and the two spend their reunion talking to each other.

They both admit to missing each other and Yukino noticed that Arima had grown and he also says they won the kendo nationals which she is amazed by. Being together again like this, Yukino felt like she's fallen for Arima all over again.

They finally go on a date the next day. Arima talked about how the competition went on while they ate. Arima had to fight his captain and while he wishes his captain could win, the captain himself wanted Arima to give it his all as he'd always wanted to compete against Arima even once while threatening to kiss Arima if he doesn't. With that, Yukino realized how popular Arima was with not only the girls but even boys and wondered if Aarima is safe going to training camps and such. Arima asks her not to think about it.

As the date went on, Yukino thinks about how to tell Arima how much she loves him as she felt pretty immature before. Because of this, Arima noticed Yukino acting strange but didn't know why and Yukino couldn't answer properly which made Arima think he's done something wrong. Arima walked closer to Yukino and tried to touch her but in a panic, she apologetically runs away leaving a confused Arima behind. She felt bad about hurting his feelings and was about to go back to apologize but Arima had caught up to her by then.

Surprisingly, Arima pushes Yukino to a nearby wall and corners her as he tells her that no matter what Yukino does, he won't let her go even if she doesn't feel the same. Yukino hugs him and apologizes for making him worry and explains what happened. She tells him she loves him and gives him a kiss on the lips. This makes Arima happy and the two made up. As they sat near the river, Arima decided to tell Yukino of how much he loves her.

The next episode starts with Arima.

It seems Arima and his family will have to meet up with their relatives and his parents aren't really looking forward to it. Their relatives aren't kind but they know they can't just sit back and do nothing. The parents are more worried about Souchirou and says they'd support him the entire time knowing how the relatives would treat the boy.

The entire Arima family has great social standing due to many of them being successful in the medical field but they view Souchirou as a flaw. Souichirou's real father had been troublesome and have left them debts as well as taking some of the family's money while leaving him behind which is why Souchirou gets looked down on or ignored by the others. He's treated as the son of the family's black sheep.

Souichirou excused himself for a moment and returned to overhearing his relatives talking bad about him. They also mention that he's starting to look like his biological father which upsets them and asks his adoptive mother why they even took him in. They continue on to say that Souichirou's adoptive parents should monitor him to make sure he doesn't end up like his biological father and not to allow him to think he has any rights to the family's fortune.

Souichirou's dad finally talks back and tells them that Souichirou had done nothing wrong and is actually a good kid and an amazing one at that. He adds that he and his wife loves the boy and treats him like their real son so the rest of the family should stop insulting him.

Despite what his parents had said, Souichirou can't help but feel terrible. He hated his relatives but he also hates himself and wishes he could disappear. He was only able to keep going because of his loving adoptive parents and Yukino being there to support him.

Later when he's alone at home, Yukino came to visit to help him with school stuff. Yukino felt awkward as they're the only ones there but Arima assures he he's not gonna try anything which surprisingly made Yukino feel disappointed lol. He later does ask for a kiss though and say, without any sense of embarrassment or hesitation, that one day, he'd like to make love to her. (O-O)

Yukino is spending time outside this day and she couldn't stop thinking about what Arima said before. Arima later shows up saying he visited her house but she wasn't there which surprised Yukino since he usually calls before hand. Arima also apologizes about what he said the day before and says that if Yukino doesn't want anything to happen then he won't do anything. Yukino tells him that while she was surprised at first, she understands how he feels.

They all enjoyed the rest of their summer. Since they're done with school stuff, Arima decided to read books and Yukino thought of doing the same. They also went swimming with everyone later on except Aya whose to busy to come.

Yukino notes this would be the first time Asaba and Tsubaki would meet and she wondered if the two would get along cause they have sort of the same personality but it ended the opposite with the two not liking each other. This was also the first time Asaba would meet Tsubasa but Arima already warns tsubasa not to come close to Asaba so it was shut down.

As the couple walked home one afternoon, the rain started pouring and they found themselves stuck at the bus stop. Since a bus didn't seem like it would come, Arima suggest going to his house which is nearby but he tells Yukino it'd be just them and ask if it's okay. Yukino says she's happy that they get moments like these with each other.

The two spend the rest of the time at Arima's and... it seems it finally happened.

Yukino takes a bath later and is happy about this as she feels like they’re newly weds. Arima on the other hand who is sleeping has gotten another nightmare about his past and his abusive biological mother.

Holy crap... this show. What the hell lol

Episode 17 started out cute. They really depict Tsubasa now as some kind of cute gremlin lol. And she’s okay with sitting on Yukino’s lap like a little sister!

Maho, from being an antagonist to now being a friend, is probably one of the few mature people Yukino could talk to about her troubles. She gave a nice advice that would make Yukino feel better which is good. I wonder if she’s gonna get her own romantic arc with the guy she mentioned?

Arima is back!! It’s nice to see them together again. I’m just kind of annoyed with how Yukino acted but it was the same as when Arima confessed to her. She is immature but she is young so I shouldn’t be surprised. But they’re dating now so it just felt a bit more... unnecessary to have this kind of drama. I’m glad they didn’t prolong it and Arima chased after her. The kabedon after that was shocking and kinda scary. Like, it would’ve ended with him being some kind of yandere but they love each other and it went well.

The next episode started with Arima’s family and relatives. In contrast to how heartwarming and cute the Miyazawa’s visit with the grandpa was, this one made me feel so pissed off. Like, I want someone to punch the cousins in the face. It took a while and they endured it as long as they could but I’m happy to hear Souchirou’s dad defend him and call the others out for their treatment of his son. Souchirou did nothing wrong and it wasn’t like he chose to be the child of the hated member of their family.

In a way though, I’m glad he didn’t end up the same way as his other relatives cause they were terrible. His family - himself and his adoptive parents - are great and it’s a miracle they were different. It’s just sad Souchirou was left with trauma that it’d be hard for him to move on properly.

Yukino and Arima together later, alone was oh my gosh... I didn’t think I’d hear him say it just like that. He said it without hesitation too like, woah!

We had a short beach episode scene! it was nice and cute and funny! Asaba’s first encounter with Yukino’s other friends didn’t end well lol.

Okay okay... that part of the episode. I didn’t think that’d happen. I wasn’t even sure it did so I had to look it up and apparently it was confirmed that it did. The main couple did it. Oh my gosh, it makes me wonder how this was aired here in my country back then lol. But then again, due to how it’s presented, it wasn’t overly explicit so there can be some doubts which can be just as good a censorship as any.

The only visuals when they did it was a little symbolic scene of Yukino as a child losing her hat to the wind and the hat being caught by a young Arima and the two smiling at each other. Like, oh... once you understand it lol.

It sucks that the episode doesn’t end on a good note. Arima’s trauma resurfacing not even letting him have a bit of happiness, telling him there’s no escape from it. I hope Yukino could help him through this by supporting him. It won’t be easy for him to let go of all the emotional issues he’s got but at least, it would be nice if he wasn’t alone.

I’m worried about the next episode. I heard that there were behind the scenes issues in the show’s production and the last couple of episodes aren’t as good as the start of it. I’ll still be watching though and hopefully, it wasn’t super bad.
