I was surprised to see how many people hated Dougie Jones.
I was so enthralled by Kyle MacLachlan's performance, that the thought of Dale Cooper eventually coming back completely escaped my mind until he finally did. Then honestly, I missed Dougie.

So, I was watching Twin Peaks, which may be the most "That Guy" show in history. It is absolutely packed with television character actors.
Every scene with Harold Smith, played by Lenny Von Dohlen, this guy:

My brain is setting off familiarity alarms, but I couldn't place it. I try not to look up stuff on IMDB until I totally tap out. Mostly as a brain exercise.
About three days go by, and it finally hits me. I know where I know this fucker from.

Red Dwarf, in the episode Back to Reality.
It's no wonder it took me so long. That had to be one of the last things I would of even attempted to guess. My mind was all on late 80s and early 90s North American television.

I get it now.
You watch Twin Peaks once, and it just binds to your DNA sequence, eh?

It's incredible how long you can "I'll get to it" something.
I've been saying year after year for probably over two decades that I was going to get to David Lynch. Now only after he's gone, I've finally gotten to it. I've seen bits of Eraserhead before, but that was it.
I've started with Twin Peaks. I finished the first two seasons, and watched Fire Walk With Me. Now I'm on season three and I don't know if it's blasphemy to say or not, but, I like this season exceedingly more than the first two.
Don't get me wrong, I definitely was into the first two. I will watch them again. But this season, man, it's just speaking to me. It's taken all the elements I've loved from the original series, and taken it to another level.

I definitely like Moira Kelly's take on Donna Hayward more than I like Lara Flynn Boyle's.
Moira seemed to approach the character with more of an innocence and nativity than Lara did. There were moments in the show that I think you were supposed to feel more for Donna, but Lara's interpretation of the character didn't quite hit it.
I think had Moira been in the show with the way she played it, I certainly would of had much more sympathy for Donna at times. Especially something like when she is talking to Laura's grave.

It's very rare that I actually obsess over media. I love tons of things sure, and have the things that I watch the most. Yet, a unbridled lust to find more and more to consume? Very rare indeed.
I can readily admit I have certainly fallen down the Twin Peaks rabbit hole. I'm on my third watch of the series, after first seeing it less than a month ago. Now, I've started reading the books. I also have the Diane... audio track to listen to when I get a chance.

I was randomly thinking of what are the best single seasons of television shows, non-comedy anyway. Three immediately came to my mind.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season Six) Twin Peaks (Season Three) Fargo (Season One) For my personal tastes anyway.

I was wondering if the population of Twin Peaks was one of those cases of people from a big city don't understand small towns type of situations, until I read this:
"The population of Twin Peaks has been something of a debate in the community since the show's airing. Originally the population was 5,120 but the ABC execs were worried that the show would not be a relatable because of its rural setting, so it was changed to 51,201."
I can't wrap my head around that one. The sign is changed, but once you're in the show it's obviously a small town... So, ABC thought the sign would be enough for people to think, "This town can't be small, you saw the sign"?
It does still seem strange — only judging by where I've been — for a town of 5,000 people to have all their policing being done by the sheriff's department. I've been to smaller places that have had their own town police. Only two squad cars, but still.

I never pay attention to ratings to form a personal opinion or to make a decision on watching, but I do view them out of a general curiosity.
It's to no surprise that the audience and critic rating for Twin Peaks season one is much higher than season two. It is also no surprise that with that in mind, that I like season two way more than season one.
It's weirder. It's stranger. That feeds more into my personal tastes.

Reading Mark Frost's Twin Peaks books is a bit of a paradox in my mind.
"Man, a lot of this stuff is just too convenient."
versus
"But I really like it, so you know, fuck it."

I have noticed that I am far more motivated to read Twin Peaks books because they are considered canon, versus the Star Trek books which are not.
I have so many Star Trek books I still haven't read, sitting on my shelf. Yet, I'm powering my way through these Twin Peaks books.
There is an irony here. I am not a fiction reader, based on overall numbers. 99% of all the books I've ever read are non-fiction. For my tastes, non-fiction writers seem to have a far more compelling writing style.
