Like his thinking about his luck cycle and how it pans out, especially when it might affect people he loves, really reminds me of the same short of spiraling as OCD. Even more specifically, his belief that he has to suffer a certain amount of harm/bad luck before getting to reap the benefits of his good luck and vice versa, really comes off to me as a compulsion/ritual, adding on to its function as a coping mechanism and an attempt at trying to exercise some control over his life.

So far, the story is still in its outline phase. I did have a writer wave where the ideas flowed freely so now I'm just trying to piece all the fragments together

I know some people don't like to know what happens at the end of a story but I feel like the appeal of doing that setup comes with the progression of the actual story but on to the headcanons

My OC for the story I was having a hard time coming up with a name or specific look for her, so I was thinking maybe she could just be nameless or a self insert like Y/N L/N but I'm still deciding...

I have noticed that the boys have been written more fluffy in recent years and don't get me wrong I love it but sometimes I do wish there was a little bit more content focusing on their more darker side so if your looking for more DL fanfiction like that @jardinsdeminuit has a wonderful one shot selection of fics on their ao3

My personal favourite was "Shackled" 🤭

"The Switch" by Rinster is truly one of the best DL fanfiction I have ever read. The story telling, the boy characterization, the fact that it's choices based, meaning your actions can have consequences it's still ongoing, but so far it has 74 chapters, which should be plenty for now!

If you're looking for art that really captures the mood of the different routes, @ausd has amazing art that captures that chilling feeling, especially laitos route mmm CHEFS KISS everytime I look at their art it's just!

If you want some analysis that'll make you cry read "The Fall of Yui Komori: A Partial Analysis of Laito’s HDB Route" by @everything-laito I swear after reading this I needed to put my phone down and take a breath of fresh air it definitely gave me a new found perspective on just how strong Yui it's just so good.

@carlatsukinamistolemyhamsandwich also makes analysis, but her fanfictions MWAH they capture Shin sadistic side perfectly my personal favourite is Siren’s Call (Siren!Shin x Reader One Shot) (this one is not a shin fic but it's my guilty pleasure Bathtub Merman - Merman!Azusa Mukami x Reader One Shot you can tell I have a thing for under water creatures)

@dixbolik-lovers does all the boys and her Aus are to die for, and the fanfiction can be found on ao3 and Wattpad as well.

Y'know, I never got the impression that Diabolik Lovers was a horror game on top of being an otome game, and I never understood why I couldn’t make that connection when it comes to the writing…Turns out it wasn’t the writing, it’s the advertising and artwork.

DL advertised itself as a CD and otome game where the love interests are Sadistic and Masochistic vampires, and the horror elements just kind of wrote itself into the series along the way. Now, I actually like the idea of a horror otome game, but the problem comes in when its the love interests doing the horror, rather than the horror aspects coming from forces outside their control. It also doesn’t help that this feels like another way to abuse the MC, which Rejet has done time and time again.

The artwork itself doesn’t lend itself to be scary. Now, I love Satoi’s artwork, but if they really wanted to make the love interests scary in some capacity, than have them look scary instead of basic anime bishounens. For example, Kanato could’ve looked more doll-like and have a more unsettling vibe to his design, but they played that “younger looking love interest” trope straight instead of doing something unique with it.

One DL fanartist, Ausd, actually pulls off the horror-vibes of DL well with their artwork, since she tends to draw the characters slightly realistic, which in turn makes the love interests more off putting when there is a scary scene happening. But, they have some stylization to where they don’t look uncanny in more comedic scenes.

TLDR; DL never gave off a horror-vibe due to the advertising and artwork, and a DL fanartist can actually pull it off well in their art and how they present the characters.

Dr. Aida Cartagena (June 3, 1918 - June 3, 1994) was a prominent Afro-Latina poet, novelist, scholar, and public intellectual. She was born in Moca, Dominican Republic. She was the daughter of Olimpia Portalatin and Felipe Cartagena Estrella. She never married or had any children. She was a major proponent of the Negritude Movement in the Spanish-speaking world.

She was an early member of La Poesia Sorprendida (1943-1947, Surprised Poetry), an internationally well-known avant-garde literary journal. Based in the Dominican Republic, the journal published short stories, essays, and artwork from throughout but not exclusively, Latin America. The journal survived only four years, it was exceptional in being allowed to operate under the oppressive dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961). La Poesia Sorprendida published her works and gave her exposure as a writer to the international community.

The life, education, and emphasis on a public career that we see in her example were unusual for her time and place. She attended the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, where she earned a Ph.D. in humanities and she attended the Ecole du Louve in Paris for postgraduate studies with an emphasis in museology and the fine arts. She described how her mother was more traditional about her gender expectations for her daughter, including her worry concerning all her daughter’s international travel, but that her father was “very liberal” and supportive of her goals. One can see the influence of extensive international travel on her work. In her novel, Escalera para Electra, the emphasis on the universal intertwined with the local shines throughout the book.

She credited travel and her relationships, more than books, as the key to her education and development as a writer. She said, “I don’t think a poet is born, the poet is made.” She served as a representative for the Dominican Republic at UNESCO, she worked as a professor of art history and archaeology at AUSD, and she was the director of the anthropology museum. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Tho no, now I kinda understand I don't like this character anymore.

You see, at the beginning I was pretty loyal to her and liked her, finding her cute great etc, but that was from my own prism of vision. In other words – I liked her because of the way I perceive her "out of character", not the way she was actually written in the games

Idk I was into romantisizing her numbness, or concentrated her whole character core around being a miserable victim girl who's living in her dreams to escape this ugly reality, being less sweet and more bitter (lol tf I wrote, anyways)

I read how @/besnella and @/ausd (don't really want to bother) wrote this character and genuinely liked it, because this image was resonating with the way I would write Yui.

So, I like this "ooc Yui which isn't canon" which is the result of other people's writing and my obsession with crystal castles bc for their songs scream YUI

I don't like her original character in the games, I'd say. Probably because it's not interesting...

In some routes tho she has some conflict inside her, she tries to deal with it, but lol the whe game is built on diaboy's conflict and the way

yui tries to solve it (as if she's his personal psychologist lmao). Like, in some routes she's fine, in some she's just dumb (Shin DF), but I still can't say I adore her personality haha, just don't like it.

As a character function – okay, as an interesting character – nah, especially when there are 13 diaboys with more dramatic characters, fucked up conflicts etc...

Anyways, I also don't understand the hype around her by the whole fandom, like yeah, okay, you like her, I just don't agree now after some routes *overrated*

I'm not so interested in yui to write the whole "analysis" why she's "poorly written" or so, I just don't like her, like she sucks, she doesn't even recalls some strong emotions (tho except for endings where she becomes insane, it's some contrast to her regular behavior 🤧)
