girls will let their friend spoil the end of Rebels for them thinking they're never going to watch it, and then months later will spend almost every night crying over Kanan even though they haven't seen the second half of season 4 yet

herc doesn't really enjoy modern media that draws from greek myth. things are inaccurate, names and events are changed, people he personally knew are portrayed in drastically different light to how he remembers them. it's even gotten to the gods of olympus — they've started using the wrong names for creatures and people. then again, many of those the stories recall are mortals, and the gods' perception of them change so often that it's no shock they can't be bothered to remember what actually happened. 

one of the biggest things in media that herc takes issue with, though, is the disney adaptation of his life. normally he'd probably be fine with something made for kids, set to catchy music, telling a watered-down version of his labors just to introduce modern kids to his story. inaccuracies be damned, it gets them interested and learning about him. he'll endure questions about why he doesn't have pegasus or the nemean lion skin from kids. the myths about him exist to serve as lessons and warnings for people. but the particular issue he has is with the ending.

maybe the movie would have been a bummer otherwise, but why's the animated version of himself get to have a happy ending with megara? why's he gotta watch all those cutesy little interactions? 

it just makes him bitter. he should've had that. but it also throws him into feelings of guilt — it's his fault, anyway. no matter how many sources claim it was hera who made him go mad in the moment, he will never get rid of that guilt. maybe he wants to feel guilty about it. after all, if he doesn't carry that guilt with him, how's he supposed to stop himself from doing it again?
