my favorite thing is thanatos pretending to be so hard at the beginning, so mean, so aloof and unflappable, and then as soon as something happens to zag he’s suddenly like:

it’s about this boy this adaptation that takes a predator and makes him back into a boy he’s just a boy and he wants to keep children safe from the horrors of the world before, keep them safe in the way he never was, create a shelter for them not in isolation but in family. he tells them a bed time story like some kind of pied piper, he leads them away into a fantasy so that the future–past they’re all hurtling towards can be staved off just a little longer. the last thing he downloaded before the satellite went dead was the wikipedia entry on capitalism— he asks if he should just delete it. he spends every waking moment after trying to keep it from happening again. “there is no before.”

it’s about this girl this girl who has never had the chance to say goodbye who holds people so close that sometimes they end up passing through her altogether and she knows the boy’s story, it’s his bedtime story— but it’s her guiding light. she remembers damage too, the damage and horror of the world before, but instead of falling into a fantasy she makes herself a horror, makes herself untouchable. because if she couldn’t pretend the world was something better then at least she could protect herself from the worst this new world has to offer. knives tucked into hair, boots, belts, sharpened lovingly and methodically. she picked up her first knife out of the pool of her brother’s blood, wiped it clean. spends hours throwing it end over end into the wall of the cabin— she never misses. “to the monsters, we’re the monsters.”

it’s about their parallel lives, their ever-narrowing orbit around one another their inevitable collision. it’s about a knife drawn like a breath and pressed tight under his jaw. it’s about his gasped words in response to the sudden blade. were they a threat? a promise? did it matter? because, really, it’s about the knife he didn’t see coming— fast, short, sharp as anything, and deep in his guts. “Kirsten, why are you helping me?” “stabbing you didn’t work.”

finally sorted out lavinia's background lore UNDER THE CUT FOR ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED

she joined the city guard instead of the chantry/templars right away because she's like i wanna make a Real Change and convince criminals to Stop their Evil Deeds in the heat of the moment by Appealing to their Sensibilities. and then she mostly gets guard duty on the outskirts of town lol. and bc she's trained with a bow she only does stuff from a distance and literally stands on guard towers by herself all night so she has a LOTTTT of time to think. but she keeps at it because she wants to make a difference like her sister is and is hoping to actually get promoted to guard captain or something. she believes her sister is fulfilling the maker's duty by being a templar and is probably making the templar order better bc her sister namepending is so level-headed and dedicated and loyal and etc etc and probably Inspires all the templars around her (even though she's just a low-ranking lackey)

and then through the years both her sisters (one templar one mage) and then i think one of her brothers are talking about how rough the circles are and how much worse it's getting (i think namepending is at kinloch or the gallows or somewhere super bad and then her other sister is in ostwick but they don't get along) and then ofc there's everything with the mage templar war. namepending becomes disillusioned with the templars esp after hearing about the right of annulment being pulled in kirkwall and everything that happened. maybe she came into contact with hawke... MUCH to think about. anyway namepending ended up being killed because of the mage-templar war about a year before inquisition and lavinia was like well fuck there's no solution and i have so many ideas and i want to be part of the reason these people stop arguing. and she kept asking a family member or friend of the family to let her join the templar order officially and then he kept being like fuck off you're 26 and have no training and it's the midst of the mage-templar war we're not going to take you. and then she was like take me to the conclave and i'll show you how passionate and dedicated i am to fixing this please!!!!! i'm begging you!!! and the guy was undecided but then lavinia's dad was like come on Old Friend let her come... so she did go and then. well. :)

i think having a sibling who is a mage and hearing her nonmage sister sympathize with mages did a lot for her mage sympathy and i think she was definitely on the side of circles being Relaxed but idk if she was fully for mages being completely free bc You Know. she's a chantry girl and the chant says no. so idk where that leaves her during inquisition lol i still haven't figured it out. idk if she'd ally with the mages to help them clear their name as a group or if she'd ally with the templars to a) help reform them and b) because she knows that they have anti-magic powers and that it might be more useful to close the breach than have a bunch of stressed out mages be close to rifts and closer to demons. so I DON'T KNOW I'M STRESSSSSED. but yeah that's what you guys all missed on glee! :)
