Context: this is an au of the ending of Sylus's myth, where MC is more of an actual sorceress. She travels to the afterlife to bring Sylus back, Orpheus and Euridice style, passing through a series of trials, including the following dive into his childhood memories. I don't think it's mentioned in this section, but he's about 11 here

He’s light on his feet, an echo of the deadly elegance he’ll someday possess hidden inside gangly limbs, and you struggle to keep up as he slips into the forest, weaving between trees with the grace of a born predator. It’s only the red of his shirt, the glint of sunlight in his bright hair, that allows you to keep sight of him. Eventually, you emerge into a clearing beside a pond just in time to see him drop to his knees beside the water, leaning over to look at his reflection. Slender fingers probe through his hair, parting it to reveal a tiny black nub. 

The beginning of a horn. 

“No, no!” he whispers harshly. “I told you to stay away!” He sits back, hands clutching his hair, breaths coming fast and heavy. With one shaky hand, he reaches down to grab the knife from his belt. It’s a small thing, a boy’s knife intended for gutting fish and whittling sticks, but its blade gleams wickedly sharp in the sunlight. From your position, frozen at the edge of the treeline, you can’t see his face but you can see the deep breath he takes, the way he squares his shoulders as he raises the knife to his horn.

“Stop!’ you can’t stand by anymore, watching this boy, this echo of the man you’ll someday love, hurt himself. You emerge from the trees, taking a few steps towards him.

He’s on his feet in an instance, knife pointed straight at you. His eyes narrow. “Who are you?”

You raise your hands placatingly. “Doesn’t matter, I’m not going to hurt you. Will you put down the knife?”

His shoulders tense, and he doesn’t change positions. “You saw, didn’t you?”

You nod.

“Tell anyone and I’ll kill you.” His voice shakes but the point of the knife is steady. “I’ll eat your soul. I’m a monster, it’s what we do.”

“You’re not a monster.” you keep your voice soft, posture unthreatening. What an irony it would be to survive doomsday, your own execution, the rampages of a half-mad dragon, only to be killed by the child version of the man you’re trying to save. “And I’m not going to tell anyone.”

“I don’t believe you.”

You shrug helplessly. “Okay, fine. It’s the truth, though.” You walk around him, keeping a wide berth, and sit down by the edge of the pond, dangling your bare feet in the water. They’re scraped and battered from your chase through the woods, and the cool water feels soothing. You sigh in relief, closing your eyes, though you remain tense, ready to fight back if he decides to actually attack you. After a moment of silence, soft footsteps approach you.

“Why are you here?”

You ignore the question, looking up at him. “It’s too bad you have to keep cutting the horns off. They’re pretty.”

He scoffs, sitting down a few feet from you. “They’re horrible.” He hugs his knees to his chest, the knife still gripped in his hand as he looks over at you with suspicion. Your heart clenches when you notice how his pants are just slightly too short, revealing a few inches of bony ankle. “...you’re really not gonna tell?”

“Why would I? The Judicators are a bunch of puffed up hypocrites. They don’t deserve anything, let alone you.”

He snorts, glaring into the pond. After a moment, one hand comes up to lightly touch his horn. It’s grown slightly in the few minutes you’ve been sitting here, now long enough to poke above his hair. “They aren’t pretty. They’re horrible and ugly and if anyone knew, they’d kill me.”

“They could try,” you respond softly, thinking of Sylus’s words. One hundred and eight attempts on his life, all failed. Only you, against your will, had succeeded. You reach out and gently run a finger along the length of his horn. He shudders, eyes falling closed before he tenses, batting your hand away.

“Stop it. Don’t touch me.”

You raise your hands in surrender. “Alright. But is this your plan for the rest of your life? Just to keep cutting off parts of yourself and hoping no one notices?”

“What else can I do?” he says harshly. “All the other dragons are dead. If I can’t hide what I am, I will be too.”

“You could leave. Go where nobody can find you, where you can be yourself.”

He just hunches over, tightening his arms around his legs, staring out over the pond. You think of the way his eyes practically glowed when the woman in the market had praised him. How even as an adult jaded by centuries of suffering, he tolerated your chatter, let you drag him through markets and taverns, a smile tugging on the corner of his mouth only to be quickly hidden whenever you glanced at him. The kitten that had showed up in the cave. 

He wasn’t built for solitude. 

You sigh, knowing it’s futile to give him advice. You know exactly how his story ends, that the boy in front of you is nothing more than a memory, but still… a part of you yearns to take him away, show him a life that isn’t full of pain and fear. 

“Things will get better,” you say softly. “Not for a long time, but... but someday somebody’s going to see your horns and tail and love you anyway.”

He stares at you, eyes wide in his soft, childish face. To your utter shock, you see tears gathering in the corners. He wipes them away harshly with the back of his hand, turning away from you. “Shut up, you can’t know that, you don’t know anything.” He sniffs, shoulders shaking with repressed emotion. 

You can only stare. You’d never had to comfort a crying child before. You’d never dreamed that Sylus would cry, let alone in front of you. Death threats, you’d expected. Anger, biting sarcasm, feigned indifference… but tears? You hesitantly place a hand on his shoulder, ready for him to lash out but he leans into it instead. You shuffle closer, putting your arm around his shoulders, and he leans his head against you. The small, sharp horn pokes your arm, but you make no effort to move. 

“Sy- Stayrus, I promise you that things will turn out alright. Remember that, okay? Things will be alright in the end.”

HADES AU: Dead Royalty

This is more than a fixed "character x reader" job, this is a job related to an AU of the Hades video game that I came up with based on the interactions of Hades and Zagreus in the game.

We all know that the relationship between these two is BAD, Hades even having depth and reasons to hide things from his son does not excuse him from being a horrible and abusive father towards him, even if he improved as a person and changed, it came to mind? What if with now extra motivation, years of repressed anger, and perhaps a side effect of the mirror of darkness, Zagreus had... enough?

What if somehow Zagreus had been able to "get rid" of Hades in the Underworld? That way he could visit his mother as much as he wanted without having to step over him, or having Hades reveal his location in his escapes, he would no longer have him making life difficult for him and everyone in Hades' house, so why No?

Obviously things go deeper than that, when eventually Hades's absence ends up affecting the stability of the Underworld, a replacement is needed, and Zagreus is his only heir here, so he does it.

That's why I temporarily call this Au "Dead Royalty AU", although any suggestion is fine.

In general, several of Zagreus' relationships remain intact as they are not related to his rank, such as Skelly, Dusa, Orpheus, Eurydice, his mother (who may or may not return to the underworld to help her son), Nyx, Hypnos, etc. .

while others may see Zagrues differently by seeing what he did and how it affected him, like Thanatos, Meg (these two especially even feeling a little guilty for having contributed in some way to the breakdown that led Zagreus to make this decision) Maybe Achilles? Although I don't think so, some bosses, etc.

Zagreus is still a good guy, a prankster, an animal lover, someone with good intentions in the Underworld who doesn't want to be like his father, but definitely the excessive use of darkness and what it did to his father messed with his head a little. .

He wants to do his tasks and improve the lives of people in the underworld (who deserve it). Although I would say that he is somewhat hardened by everything that happened, he is happy and calm for the first time in a long time.

this Au has a lot of potential on its own and for jobs x reader(fluff, yandere, name it) so suggestions, questions? I read You and respond.

esto mas que un trabajo fijo de "personaje x lector" esto es un trabajo relacionado con un AU del videojuego de Hades que se me ocurrio en en base a las interacciones de Hades y Zagreus en el juego.

todos sabemos que la relación entre estos dos es MALA, Hades aun teniendo profundidad y razones para ocultar cosas a su hijo no lo excusa de ser un padre horrible y abusivo hacia el, incluso si mejoro como persona y cambio, me vino a la mente ¿que hubiera pasada si con ahora una motivación extra, los años de ira reprimida, y talvez un efecto secundario del espejo de la oscuridad, Zagreus tenga... suficiente?

¿que pasaria si de alguna forma Zagreus hubiera podida "deshacerse" de Hades en el Inframundo? de esa manera podria visitar a su madre todo lo que quisiera sin tener que pasar sobre el, o que Hades revelara su ubicación en sus huidas, ya no lo tendria haciendole la vida a el y a todos en la casa de Hades difícil, entonces ¿porque no?

obviamente las cosas son mas profundas que eso, cuando eventualmente la ausencia de Hades termina afectando la estabilidad del Inframundo, se necesita un reemplazo, y Zagreus es su unico heredero aqui, asi que lo hace.

por eso llamo de forma temporal este Au "Dead Royalty AU", aunque cualquier sugerencia esta bien.

en general varias de las relaciones de Zagreus se mantienen intactas al no estar relacionadas con su rango, como Skelly, Dusa, Orfeo, Euridice, su madre(que puede o no volver al inframundo a ayudar a su hijo), Nyx, Hypnos, etc.

mientras que otras pueden ver a Zagrues de forma diferente al ver lo que hizo y como lo afecto, como Thanatos, Meg(estos dos especialmente incluso sintiéndose un poco culpables por haber contruibuido de alguna forma al breakdown que llevo a Zagreus a tomar esta decisión), ¿talvez Aquiles? aunque no creo, algunos jefes, etc.

Zagreus sigue siendo un buen chico, bromista, amante de los animales, alguien con buenas intenciones en el Inframundo que no quiere ser como su padre, pero definitivamente el uso excesivo de oscuridad y lo que le hizo a su padre le jodio un poco la cabeza.

el quiere hacer sus tareas y mejorar la vida de las personas en el inframundo(que se lo merezcan). aunque diria que esta algo endurecido por todo lo que paso, esta feliz y tranquilo por primera vez en mucho tiempo.

este Au tiene mucho potencial por su cuenta y para trabajos x lector(fluff, yandere, nombralo) por lo que ¿sugerencias, preguntas? los leo y respondo.

So, after my binge reading/reblogging of your hades au posts I went and found a lp of the game because you just made it sounds so great and made me want to understand better your au 😁 I didn't finished watching yet but one thing is sure : it's absolutely amazing thank you SO MUCH for making me discover it *-*

Now, I've reread your post regarding who's who etc in your au and I must say all of this is even more galactic brain than I already thought at first !!! Sabine/Ezra and Orpheus/Euridice is just genius (Ezra and Euridice are nearly one and the same really xD he would even look absolutely awesome with her tattoos and her clothes) and just all of your ideas match so well with the characters !!! I adore the Armorer as Hades and Satine as Nyx too !! And Cobb very much has Aphrodite's vibes xD I just really love all of the matches *-*

There's just Rex that I'm not sure to who he's corresponding ? Especially since there's two versions of him x'D I understood he was Skelly but I'm not sure (and very random but I had half the thought that IG 11 would be very fun in that role even if he's not in your plans xD) 😅

Also, do you have an Hydra equivalent ? Just curious really ^^ (maybe boba's sarlack pit ?/not serious once again xD)

I don't have a lot of constructive thoughts outside of my excited babbling but I guess that the obols are just credits. And I thought that it could be fun if the nectar was tiingilar, especially since, like every stew, it's a meal made for sharing (in my humble opinion at least). Also I'm not saying that to ask you to draw it, to be clear. Everything you've done and are doing is already insane and amazing, if you tried to convert every details of the game in your au, I think it would just consume you right then and there x'D <3

Anyway that was just my love letter for your au, the proclamation of my utmost admiration to your art and how amazingly you rendered star wars in Hades fashion (even if it's very far from an easy task) and my sincere thanks for making me discover this beautiful and amazing game !!

I've been a little worse than I'd previously thought (who isn't nowadays) but that doesn't matter, what's important is that I'm so HAPPY I could introduce you to Hades and what an amazing game it is!! I'm not that much into games myself, but I could really not recommend enough to try and play it if you can! It's great to watch other people play it (I'd spent weeks watching my partner play when it first came out), but it's also another experience to be the one pressing the buttons for all the interactions ^^ (Hades has also kept me company through some dark times, so I'm extra biased... but then again, it feels so good, even for someone whose general type of gameplay heavily relies on key smashing xD)

I'm so glad you could come back to my "masterpost" on who is who and agree with my take on the characters! I didn't initially set out to make everyone fit in so neatly, so it was a surprise when I could find such nice matches :D

And I'll have to look into slipping a bit more Eurydice into Ezra when the time comes to explore a design for him (I'm still so head empty with that one, so I'm grasping at any ideas and suggestions rn Q^Q)

Rex is one of the most handwave-y characters in this AU, I'm not gonna lie, he's from the time when I hadn't yet put all that much thought into the full line up, and I just really wanted to make two versions of him because I just watched Rebels, fell in love with his stupid beard and didn't have the heart to pick between his two looks XD I tried to give some reasoning for why he is in Skelly's spot in his own post but it was basically two-fold: 1) I wanted to keep him close to Cody (they are a package deal, I refuse to seperate them) and 2) when I opened up the game to take some screenshots for backgrounds, my latest save was right as Zagreus returns to Skelly, and he called him "Captain" and Rex IS THE Captain for me so. Really, the decision was made for me. Why are there two versions of Rex? Don't think too hard about it XD*

(* there is a super handwavy explanation behind it, that would also answer why Omega looks 13 at best, while Boba has just crawled out of the Sarlacc pit and on to Jabba's throne. Some sith/jedi artifact and possibly Palpatine related time fuckery that would mesh really well with Hades2's main villain being Chronos, so I kept telling myself that I don't need an actual explanation aside from "we self-indulge here" but uh... it keeps itching at my brain wheneven I dare to entertain the idea that I might ever reach the end of this art project... and maybe I could glance in the direction of Hades2. Just a teeny tiny bit ^^;)

Also if you take a good look at it IG-11 is actually present in the sparring area next to Rex. I don't know if you've seen it in the lp, but you can unlock Skelly statues there (which I don't remember if they do anything, since I'm stuck with my heat levels around the time where I could unlock the second statue, and it's been ages since the first one was revealed ^^;) and the first one here is IG-11!

I'm not planning to draw it (because I hate fighting Lernie, and I hate everything Asphodel lol) but the hydra was cast as the Krayt Dragon Din fought with Cobb. I thought I was very clever when I came up with that XD

I'm very intrigued by the idea of tiingilar for nectar (I bet they both tingle hehe), especially for that communal aspect of it you mentioned 👀 It's definitely more interesting than me just recolouring it blue and calling it blue milk or whatever because I coudln't come up with anything better on my own XD (Especially if you consider that you can sometimes get more nectar bottles from wht Wretched Broker in their corner in the cantina section of the map!) I got so far as credits and... whatever that fruit is instead of pomegranate. I suddenly forgot all names of every fruit or foodstuff that exists in Star Wars help TT^TT

But also please don't feel like you'd need to come up with any kind of "constructive thoughts" I'm just always very happy to share this AU with you, and I'm over the moon when anyone shows interest in it!

The city doesn't actually have keyboards for typing and music has a strong tie to mortality/power. Prometheus was a master at playing the keyboard (instrument). Ashes was able to take control of the underworld because they played music so well. They listened to Orpheus because his talent with music was a legitimate threat, but he didn't seem willing to use it for more than getting Euridice back. This is also why Heracles (very strong and threatening) didn't do anything too bad to Orpheus.

2. A character whose POV you’re currently exploring.

Tom Paris in my current WIP Euridice - at first I started using his POV because he was a really expedient window into Chakotay - the reasons his obsessive mission in my AU year of Hell were still sympathetic and as a good window into the slow erosion of the crews belief in that missiom. and then I kept focusing on Tom because this fic version of Tom began to take up some very clear parallels to Janeway in her absence - her guilt complex, her sense of duty to her crew, her role in finding solutions to problems with no good fixes. And even her bond with Chakotay. Hes now frankly just really interesting. im enjoying tormenting him and seeing how he grows because of the plot. I'm enjoying tormenting and exploring the other characters too of course. this story has given me lots of time to explore the other senior staff while Janeway is still dead. But Tom has really stood out to me in a novel way, because while ive used his perspective for comedy before, I've never used it to carry serious emotional drama. And *that* has been a fun change of pace.

♻️A scrapped idea for your current WIP

I'm actually fighting with a BG3/Legends&Lattes crossover, where Tandri opens a coffee shop in Baldur's Gate and hires Silfy as a helper! The reason it's on hold it's because I keep scrapping ideas for where I want it to go, nothing seems to fit just right.

My original idea was to have Viv have died of old age (orcs in DnD have around a 50 years lifespan after all), but it felt too dark. Then I thought maybe Tandri may have made a deal of her own for her to live on a la Orpheus and Euridice (since she's a succubus and all), but again, it felt like I was betraying the themes of both fandoms, since in both cases it's about pushing on after adversity and healing after trauma, not necessarily avoiding it altogether, and it felt specially tonedeaf if I keep writing from the perspective of one of the tiefling survivors.

So I haven't given up on this WIP, but at this point it's very... nebulous. Just need to figure out what is it really about and stop scrapping and rewriting bits and pieces of it first 😅

Woah, this is harder than it looks. Ummmm, for day 2 of whumtober, I finally had a workable yandere idea (months after I was first challenged to write it) As per usual, the usually romantic trope will remain strictly platonic as I'm focusing on the Shen twins AU for Scum Villain once again. So that fic could be described as:

world without competent authority figures + good intentions, bad actions = 100% preventable tragedy.

I hope I manage to finish it in time!
