John stands there with mouth open and his laundry basket still under his right arm, their landlord, Mr. Bogart or what was left of the man was on the floor between washing machines, pummeled, mauled and blood.. lots of damn blood everywhere and Jacques standing there, covered in blood and gore and equally surprised.

John turns fast and closes the door behind himself, setting the basket down behind it "Jac.. what..what did you do?!" They're friends and neighbours and never, during many years that John knows the man, nothing strange happened.. though John knows Jac works for Vought and that compound V? News we're everywhere but..

Beth has always felt drawn to him. Her need to bring out something in him that maybe wasn't even there at all was taking over. She liked to fix people to help people, and in her mind, no one was beyond help. She knew she could help him if he'd only let her in.

@arcanigenum The raven’s croaking made old Matthias look up from the ancient tome he was painstakingly transcribing. It was only a few people who ever came down to the archives, and it was no surprise that it once again was Calvin.

“Back so soon?” he said as greeting. “I reckoned the last pile you borrowed you last you at least a fortnight.” The speed at witch the immortal went through books always amazed the old witch.  “So what subject are you interested in this time, I wonder?”

“And then what it all came down to was-” he didn’t get to finish what he was about to say because he was so rudely interrupted. He stilled at Calvin’s sudden outburst and stared at him wide-eyed for a few moments as if he was waiting for him to continue. He didn’t look ashamed for whatever he’d said, he’d actually been saying a lot and not taken more than a handful of breaths maybe. It was more like he looked a little surprised and a little impatient at the same time. Slowly he raised his eyebrows as if to urge Calvin on with what he’d wanted to say because, obviously, that’s what he wanted, right?

But then there was just nothing and he shoved the french fry into his mouth that he’d stolen from the other’s plate about half an hour ago and had been waving around this whole time as he’d told him about the new project. “What?” he finally voiced the question and his eyes flicked across the other man’s face. “I haven’t done anything.” the more he analyzed it the more confused he was getting.

Beth wondered if that sounded pathetic to him, that one of her only friends was someone who maybe fantasised about butchering her. She's stopped in her tracks at his suggestion, though, the comparison he's making between her and those depraved women. "It's not like that. I'm not like them, we're friends but I don't want to... you know. I don't see you like that. You're handsome or whatever, but--ugh never mind. You're embarrassing me."

"Before. I ain't askin' to be cruel or whatever I just--" It's a struggle for her to put it into words, the morbid, twisting curiosity that she feels. "You're gonna think its because I'm young or dumb or whatever, but I can't understand it. A guy like you, charming and handsome and smart. What made you wanna risk it all?"

And southern manners had thus far prevented anyone trying to pry her life open like they would have if she had stayed in LA. Here, it was just Oh Honey, I saw you on the news, you didn't deserve that, and one of everything, thank you honey.

Bless your souls, bitches. Least Joe could do was that. She hoped wherever she had put him in the next life, he could see his fucked up legacy making sure Henry wouldn't need a scholarship at this rate, given her disaster of a mother had burned through their money. Literally and figuratively.

Ida gave the young man a thoughtful look, not really knowing if he was joking or not, but at he had helped her chase away the hooligans who had given her grief. “I don’t doubt it, but you can at least make yourself useful.” She pointed at the dropped grocery bag which contained some snacks and other things she couldn’t easily make herself. “Be a dear and pick that up for me.”

Starter for @arcanigenum - Calvin

Having been around for far longer than he dared to count, 216 - he was 216 years old and 27 days, he had met a lot of people. Always careful to keep them at arm's length because he knew the pain of losing someone close to him. They say things got easier with age but Harry didn’t see it, so he had learned to not let people too close to him because he knew, sooner or later, they would die too.

But, over the last century, he’d also met a few curious people and good friends. He’d also come to accept that no matter how long he lived there would still be mysteries in this world and he would never know them all until they stared him right in the face. It wasn’t the first time he saw someone he was certain he’d met before. Someone that, by all logic, should actually be dead. Last he’d heard at least, he’d drowned (he didn’t remember who had told him, but someone had mentioned it), not died of old age which would have been the next fact he was presented with.

He had been staring long enough for it to draw attention, especially since he moved a bit back and forth with the moving crowd at the bar to be able to see. Once eye contact was established he slightly tilted his head as if to ask if it was actually Calvin he saw and not just someone who happened to look very much like him. In the end, he decided he was right, and if not then he could play it off somehow as a mistaken identity or maybe a flirt. 

Before he crossed the room he stopped by the bar to get himself another drink and one extra before he approached and stopped by the booth the man had snagged. Alone? that’s just rude. On the other hand, Harry didn’t know if he was alone or had company. whatever. “How is it that whenever I step off a ship I see more and more curious things and hear even more curious tales,” he gave a crooked smile and placed the drink on the table and pushed it towards Calvin. “I believe I promised to buy you one, last we met,” he smiled. That had been a very long time ago and Calvin may or may not have been very drunk at that time, but he had promised and for once he had a chance to make good on it.
