I've had a kind of AU, in which Antasma returns and captures Luigi for his power that is equal to the Dream Stone he does not plan to eliminate him, now he is a threat to the Pi'illo Kingdom and the dream world. Mario and Dreambert try to stop him while Luigi tries to escape.

Antasma now feeds on Luigi's dream energy which makes him more powerful (and it's delicious), he gets a new castle, an army that is common enemies controlled by him and the Zeekeeper locked up...

Although Antasma wants to devour all that power, Luigi is persistent and fights, every time the bat warns with a "Time to Eat" and enjoys a fight and then feeds.

Nothing can stop him.

BUT...what if that would cause side effects?

Starting with his appearance, a slow transformation that affects all three of his forms, he is still a bat but less intimidating, like a Woobat with extra fluffy fur. This makes him a little worried, but he doesn't care as he have the power, continue with his plans and cause terror.

(The green plumber will become more attentive if more changes happen)

Then his appetite, having Luigi in his clutches, does not need to consume nightmares, but he decides to try one again by changing his meals a little, he vomits the nightmare, if before his concern was low, now it is high and his hunger has changed; but he can't be distracted he has more important matters, however, when feeding this time he feels different, he almost feels...full.

(Luigi notices this, decides to be more participatory, what happens if the bat reaches his limit?... he also notices his slight change in behavior)

Later his powers, after a battle against Mario and Dreambert, both are weakened, especially the prince, Antasma is pleased to finish off Dreambert, something goes wrong, his attack instead of finishing him at once heals him of all his wounds, Dreambert is confused, this hits the bat and he tries to do it again, the prince dodges that attack that could have hurt him, he continues with the battle and it has only gotten worse, now his enemies are like new, furious he lets out a high-pitched scream that the Stun them both and take advantage of this to escape. He is scared, he feels how some are breaking free from the mind control and the Zeekeeper is breaking his restraints; When thinking about the situation he comes to a conclusion: Stop eating from that power. He hates the idea, but sacrifices have to be made, he doesn't plan on getting rid of Luigi.

(Luigi takes this opportunity to escape and the bat's new power seems not to be what he expected, despite feeling a little weak, Antasma has actually held it well, he has noticed that, he has an idea to defeat it)

And finally himself, how the hell did they get into his castle? Luigi has escaped, great.

He has been distracted, a part of him wanted to satisfy his hunger to feel full and another did not want to know the result that would await him; No more distractions, a battle awaits him that will decide destiny.

Everything seems to be going in order, some of his attacks were more beneficial for the plumbers but he can see that they will not hold out for long, that at least puts him at an advantage, until help appears, the Zeekeeper interferes in the fight, this distraction It's enough to put Luigi's plan into motion.

A smell, a delicious one, attracts the attention of the bat, receiving an attack from the bird, on the ground he tries to get up but someone prevents him, the green plumber is too close, Antasma is terrified, but he has to maintain control.

Luigi expected the bat king to take the first bite by making his energy dream much stronger present to him, so he resorts to drastic action but not before saying: "Time to Eat."

He joins his lips with those of the bat, this action causes shock on the faces of the team, except Zeekeeper he has a thumbs up.

Antasma resists, but that rational side disappears when he can finally calm that hunger, finally have a full stomach.

What seemed like an eternity, the king is satisfied, he falls defeated to the ground and with an extra weight that makes him look like a fat cat, he feels the other weight of someone else, it must be the weakened plumber; he feels tired...warm...comfortable...

Antasma slowly closes his eyes.

And when he wakes up he will be someone new.

Luigi is a cinnamon roll.

And you are what you eat.

I have more to say about what happened next, but I don't know whether to keep his name or change it.

This went very well with my morning coffee, first of all.

ive been thinking a lot about antasma and dreamy luigi in my mario au... ive always said i never really liked how antasma and bowser's team-up was treated so i like the idea of instead setting it up to be selfless symbiosis (mario & dreamy luigi) vs selfish parasitism (antasma using/leeching off bowser for his own purposes)

and because of that, antasma must see the love luigi has for his brother that he uses to protect him, and scoffs at it

Antasma

To me, Antasma's last place, not because he's a bad antagonist, but simply because he's "just okay", when compared to the others- He isn't all too intimidating, usually giving Bowser the spotlight instead. It's cool having a villain do that, but it also impacts my super cool and official ranking :(((((

He's like... A wet towel... He's cool! But still a wet towel... 😔

Princess Shroob

Princess Shroob is fifth place, but honestly, she's still amazing in my opinion... She's incredibly intimidating, but falls a bit flat on the comedy aspect- There's also a language barrier between her and the player, which makes connecting with the character harder... Still a great villain, there's just not THAT much to her 😩

Zokket

Zokket is really cool... He's really intimidating, has some funny moments with the Extention Corps, and his lore makes him really interesting! The only reason he's not above Cackletta to me, is because the moment Reclusa enters the game, you completely forget about him... Would he have been the only villain of his game, he would've easily made third place 👁️👁️‼️

Wooo omg my favorite 😳😃😍

Cackletta is really cool because she's both intimidating and entertaining- For the first half of the game she's just several steps ahead all the time and that's really nice... Her not giving up after Woohoo Hooniversity and fusing with Bowser is a really cool twist too! The only thing she's missing is some character development, if you don't count her slowly turning completely hysteric 🥺

She's a tad bit boring compared to other antagonists, but makes up for it because she's just really memorable and you always see her as an actual theat

Reclusa

Omg Reclusa... he's so cool...

He is a GREAT villain. He's so incredibly chaotic and intimidating... He's entertaining and dear god is he threatening. I actually think he's more intimidating than Fawful in BIS, and that says a lot...

He's overly confident, which really works in his favor- while Fawful sees Mario and Luigi as an actual threat who he tries to keep at bay via trapping them inside Bowser, Reclusa likes to play with his food before he eats it. He sees himself as an unstoppable god and really sells his role

The man, the myth, the legend

I actually think that Fawful and Reclusa are relatively similar as antagonists? They're both very threatening, very confident, and incredibly memorable. I actually think that Fawful loses some of his intimidation factor due to him being a bit more comedic than Reclusa!

But what makes him the best written villain in the series for me personally, is that he's the only one with a story stretching through several games... He has the most character development out of any of the antagonists, and it's so cool seeing him go from the silly henchmen to the main villain, getting more confident in the process. He captures that "mad scientist vibe" perfectly, and at least to me, he's also the most realistic antagonist in the series. He's stressed, he's anxious, he wants his revenge...

It's nice following his development and seeing him turn into this incredible example of a villain 👏👏👏👏

since i’m actually thinking about it today, i’m gonna talk about my very not-canon-compliant fake Mario & Luigi fangame

yea i know what you’re thinking and i PROMISE THERE IS A REASON FOR MAGICALLY BRINGING BACK ALL OF THE VILLAINS (it’s also because i miss them but there is a legit reason)

here’s where it gets long, so if you hate reading:

TL;DR, Alien kingdom is destroyed except for the king (King Galivus), his daughter (Princess Europa) and the royal advisor (Obriel). Galivus is separated from the two and doesn’t actually know they’re alive. The king speedruns thru like 4 stages of grief but he can’t accept this so he wants to rebuild his entire kingdom DIRECTLY on top of the Mushroom Kingdom.

oh and he’s only there in the first place because to rebuild his kingdom he needs dark energy and magic which he gets from reanimating the previous m&l villains since their souls are a potent source of dark magic. he promises them a new and better world (and a second chance at fighting the Mario Bros.) but in the end he’s only going to use them for their power to get back his family and his subjects and then discard them

bowser is the only one that isnt coerced into king galivus’ bullshit so he the bros team up with the princess of voidspell to stop her dad from destroying the world yadda yadda

yeah, that was the tldr now get ready for the big guns (longer and more detailed version)

King Galivus (new guy beside Fawful in the image) was once the noble king of a distant kingdom out in space, the Voidspell Kingdom. That is, until it was destroyed by a rogue Starswallower; colossal space wyrms closely related to Blarggs that are thought of as deities across the galaxy. Galivus was thought to be the only survivor, and so he reluctantly fled through a portal before he could be caught in the falling debris. This coincidentally led him all the way across space to— you guessed it— the Mushroom Kingdom.

Before he arrived, Galivus rashly decided that he would bring back his fallen kingdom at any cost. For that, he would need a tremendous amount of dark energy. Which is why he headed directly to the Mushroom Kingdom— he had picked up on such a powerful energy signal, and a dark one at that. It was clear, this was the place to rebuild. The energy signal is actually remnants of Mario’s past foes, Cackletta, Fawful, The Shroob Princesses, and Antasma. Their very souls are brewing with dark energy, a perfect source of power. With all this magic combined, it would be enough to rebuild the entirety of Voidspell AND bring back Galivus’ loved ones.

So, he does the sensible thing, and uses his Twisted Staff to revive each villain. Some are reluctant to go along with his scheme, and others are ecstatic to be alive/in working order again and will gladly go along with Galivus’ plan. In exchange for their cooperation, he promises a nice little spot for them in his new world… and another chance at exacting their revenge on the Mario Bros.

What Galivus wasn’t aware of, was that there were two other survivors; the royal advisor and the princess of Voidspell, Galivus’ own daughter. They had escaped to the Mushroom Kingdom in a separate portal, out of Galivus’ reach. The queen and the rest of the castle’s inhabitants had been lost, but with Princess Europa alive, there was a chance at bringing Galivus back down to earth and stopping his selfish acts. She and the royal advisor, Obriel, seek out Mario and Luigi to help stop Galivus from destroying the Mushroom kingdom, its neighboring countries, and possibly the entire planet.

Also, Queen Jaydes certainly isn’t happy about Cackletta (and the rest of the villains, but mostly her cuz she’s died like two times now) being let off the hook so easily. Her and the bean witch definitely still have beef with each other.

There’s probably a lot that I missed or haven’t written down yet, but that’s most of it!! If you’ve taken the time to read all that, i love you <3 HAHAHA

Fulfilling my yearly quota of drawing THIS handsome nightmare!

I swear, Antasma looks different every time I draw him. Usually because of those ears of his, nobody can agree on how to draw them. Despite that, I really do love his design, it's so unlike anything from the Mario universe, even compared to the other villains of the RPGs. I felt like drawing him again because some new Mario and Luigi fans have sprouted on Tumblr. I find that, with my hyper-fixations, if they're not fed I tend to forget about them. But when anyone posts something new about them, I go CRAZY. Antasma is still my favorite character ever, I just don't feel inspired to draw him as often as I used to. Maybe I'll get back to Spirals and Wings at some point, depending on how my inspiration goes.

The Beau and The Beast

So I watched Beauty and The Beast for the childhood memories and then this happened. Enjoy my descent to insanity and stupidity :)

To think that this would happen to him. Why, oh why must he go through such things? Luigi’s thoughts were nothing short of a mess as he sat on the queen sized bed in the chamber he was given. ‘Give’, right, he wasn’t given this room, he was imprisoned in it. All because he was too foolish to see the signs when staying around that cursed bat. All he wanted was a friend that could understand him yet here he was. Trapped in a castle, away from anyone he knew or could trust, all because Antasma had ‘fallen in love’ with Luigi. This isn’t love, it’s anything but that.

Luigi heard a soft knock on the door so he quietened down his sobbing to ask, “W-Who is it…?”

“It iz Abnus, my lord. May I come in?” asked the person outside.

Ah, so that’s who it was. Abnus was the Antasman that was assigned to take care of Luigi, like a personal servant. He didn’t exactly need a servant and it wasn’t the best feeling having someone following him around every time he set foot out of this room but they were nice company when he needed someone to speak with for a while.

Luigi opened the door and looked down at the Antasman.

“Is everything alright?” asked Luigi.

“Why of course. However, hiz majesty haz ordered your presenze in zhe dining hall for dinner, my lord” spoke Abnus with a smile.

Luigi frowned at this and crossed his arms, “No”.

Abnus blinked in surprise. Did he hear him correctly? “I-I’m sorry, my lord, but I may have mizheard. Did you perhapz say ‘no’?”

“You heard me correctly, I will not be coming down to dine with him,” with that, Luigi shut the door before Abnus could say another word.

The poor Antasman sighed and reluctantly made his way back to the dining hall, “Ohh, hiz majesty will not be happy about zhis…”

And indeed he wasn’t. Antasma was already pacing in the dining hall, his claws behind his back and his cape fluttering softly behind him with how much he paced. He was growing impatient, wondering what was taking so long.

“Vhat’s taking so long? I told him to come down. Vhy isn’t he here yet?!” growled Antasma impatiently.

“Please try to be patient, your majesty. The poor man has lost his family and freedom all in a single day,” one of his bat maids tried to reason with him.

“Freedom? I have given him enough of it. I’ve given him full access to zhis castle as if it is his home and provide him vith all the luxuries a king can have for his own self!” shouted Antasma, making the flinch back in fear. The servant next to her took that as his cue to act.

“Sire, please. Such manners will not bring you closer to his heart. The poor lad is scared, he needs stability, safety, someone he can trust. Why not try to charm him a bit, bring his guard down and take things slowly?” suggested the servant.

“And how do you propose I do zhat?” asked the king.

“For starters, let us make you less…intimidating” the servant smiled nervously as Antasma gave him a glare. Still, the servant continued.

“First, you must sit up straight, but do relax your shoulders and wings,” the servant started.

Antasma hesitated, not convinced yet, but did as told. He straightened his back and relaxed his shoulders and wings, which strangely felt good. Perhaps this could actually work.

“Now, when you greet him, give him a dashing but warm smile. Let us see it, your majesty” encouraged the servant.

Antasma gave him the smile he asked for but the servant blinked in surprise and a bit of fear. That fang-filled grin would not do at all.

“U-um, perhaps with a bit less fangs. We don’t want to frighten the poor thing more,” suggested the maid kindly.

Antasma tried his best to follow their advice but he was growing increasingly frustrated with them, which they were quick to speak on at the same time that he had to learn to control his temper if he wanted Luigi to open up to him. Luckily, his anger was paused when he heard the door open, only to be disappointed to see that it was only Abnus there.

“Vell? Vhere is he?” asked Antasma with a frown.

“Aha, w-well, you see, um, he’z in the process of- I-I mean… He’z not coming…” Abnus finally admitted nervously, trembling a bit.

“VHAT?!” was the only thing heard before Antasma basically flew out of the dining hall in a fit of rage and made his way to Luigi’s chambers, his servants and maid calling out to him and trying to stop him from acting irrationally due to his anger.

Finally, Antasma made it to the plumber’s chambers and pounded on the door.

“I thought I told you to come down to dinner!” shouted Antasma.

“I’m not hungry!” Luigi answered from the other side of the door, making the bat king even more furious.

“You come out or I’ll… I’ll break down zhe door!” shouted Antasma again but it didn’t work.

“Y-Your majesty, I could possibly be wrong here but, heh, that may not be the best course of action…” the maid spoke more quietly.

“Please, attempt to be a gentleman,” Abnus basically begged.

“Vell, it is not MY fault he’s being so difficult!” Antasma hissed.

“Gently, gently…” the maid encouraged.

Antasma took a deep breath, calmed himself down and spoke in a softer and more inviting tone, “Vill you come down to dinner?”.

“No” was the instant reply from the other side and Antasma gave the servants a ‘you see this?’ glare while pointing at the door.

“P-perhpas a bit gentler…” suggested the servant, mentally praying Luigi would crack this once.

“It vould give me great pleasure…if you vould join me for dinner” Antasma hissed, his anger showing however.

“No, thank you!” replied Luigi, which sent Antasma into a fit of rage.

“You can’t stay in where forever!” shouted the bat.

“Oh, yes I can!” shouted the plumber back.

“Fine! Zhen go ahead and STARVE!” Antasma yelled with a mighty growl before turning to his terrified servants.

“If he doesn’t eat vith me, he doesn’t it at all!” he growled at them before flying off into the night with a loud screech.

The servants watched as he flew away to let his frustrations out in a long hunt, finally sighing when they couldn’t see him anymore. The sigh was not of relief, however. It was from exhaustion and disappointment. They didn’t blame Luigi for his reaction but they wished he would be a bit more obedient for his own sake. They feared what would happen to him and everyone else if he continued to disobey their king this way. They remembered the fate of the last fool who dared anger Antasma this much and they did not want the kind man to fall victim into such torture too.

who is your favorite Mario & Luigi villain

Before Brothership, my answer would've been Antasma! I have a bias for vampire-esque characters, and he's very fun overall. An ancient being (bat) corrupted by nightmares is a peak concept! I still think he should've been the final boss, too. I know the series (minus Elder Princess Shroob ofc) had been doing a corrupt form of Bowser as the final boss for each game, but Antasma 100% deserved to break that expectation!

HOWEVER, Reclusa is now my favorite. That doesn't mean I love Antasma any less though! I simply adore irredeemable bastards being fucked up just for the sake of a little bit of "fun." Also because when he appeared my best friend just turned to me and immediately went "You." LIKE WOW THANKS I am asocial, but I promise I'm not THAT bad!!! Trust!! Ahaha...
