Oh! I also read in Technicolor! That was the first fan fiction of yours I read. Outside of Team Red, who are the copycats' favourite heroes, and is there anyone you really want the group to interact with? (Ps absolutely love your work)

what a great question!

So Miles’s favorite superhero outside of Team Red is Steve. I think that’s pretty obvious. They just hit it right off, the two of them. Similar sense of humor. Miles likes when Steve forgets that he’s 14 and just goes off on one. He likes that Steve treats him like an adult and talks to him seriously about all kinds of shit. He is captivated with watching Steve negotiate the end of his superhero career (Steve is half-retired in this verse). It’s kind of poetic because Miles is just starting his.

Angel’s fave is Wade, but him aside, her favorite superhero is either Kate Bishop or America Chavez. While she’s got a huge crush on America, she’s in awe at Kate and her skill with the bow--but she’s also amazed at how Kate managed to break away from Clint and to become her own superhero, despite still sharing her name with him. She even still has a pretty good relationship with Clint. Angel thinks that one day, if she stayed in the business, she would want to be able to do something like that with Peter.

Louis’s favorite superhero in general is actually Spiderman, but he is also taken by Sam Wilson. Sam Wilson, now that Louis has bumped into him a few times, is very much like ‘Goals’ for Louis--not as a superhero. Louis doesn’t plan on superhero-ing for his whole life. But as a person. Sam’s social work with the VA and his dedication to the causes he stands behind are absolutely inspiring for Louis. Louis hopes that he can be as personable and successful as Sam, in his personal life and in making a difference in others’.

Dave honestly doesn’t have a favorite superhero outside of Team Red. Daredevil is his hero. When he was young, he flitted around between Ironman and the Black Widow, but if you were to ask him who his favorite hero was, he would have told you Prince or Queen instead of any superperson. He’s a little disillusioned with most heroes, actually. He doesn’t see how their lives overly affect his own--like, he doesn’t imagine them to be playing in even the same sandpit. He’d be in awe of them if he met them, but in terms of inspiration? Nah.

As for the second part of your question about who I would want the group to interact with-

I have a few folks I’m trying to work into Inimitable. Who I’m interested in right now are She-Hulk, Hulk, Wolverine, and Kamala Khan.

So in general, here are my headcanons for these guys in the DFV and Inimitable verses:

Peter: polyamorous, pansexual somewhat demi-romantic.

Peter needs to know people before he falls in love with them, but when he does, he goes hard. He’s found that he can love multiple people at once and has a hard time making himself monogamous, romantically and sexually. It doesn’t feel right when he’s surrounded by all these amazing, incredible people who make him happy and who he is capable of making happy. He struggles with this a lot because everything he encounters suggests to him that the road to happiness is paved with monogamy. It makes him feel like he’s doing something wrong and that something is wrong with him. So mostly he keeps his sexuality to himself.

Inimitable Peter, however, has embraced his identity among his friends and spends much of his time with them languishing and despairing over all of the relationships he could have, has had, or wants to have while the others all ignore him and call him a dramatic piece of shit. Around folks who aren’t his friends and as Spiderman, he eschews all discussion of sexuality by regressing to the maturity of a teenage with all this “Oh my god, EW. Mr. Stark!! Mr. Stark, So-and-So is having En-Es-Ef-Double U conversations in a work environment!”

Matt: bisexual and polyamorous.

Matt doesn’t really do definitions and labels, but if he had to pick, these are the ones he’d choose. He and Foggy fought for ages over whether he was pan or bi and Matt eventually picked bi just to shut Foggy up. Inimitable Matt leaned into it and got a flag made that was half the pan flag and half the bi flag, which he hangs in the office window during Pride.

Matt’s a free love kind of guy. Monogamy is one of the hardest things he has to deal with. He deals with it by letting people think he’s a player. That’s easier for him than having a conversation over it because that conversation would be really, really painful for him. His church is really important to him and while they’re generally very accepting of his sexuality, he wouldn’t dare tell anyone about the polyamory. That’s just a step too far, he thinks. He also thinks that it’s yet another reason that something is fundamentally broken about him and he doesn’t know if it comes from the child abuse or something else. So he questions if he’s really poly or just too damaged emotionally and physically to be monogamous.

Like Inimitable Peter, Big Red’s more or less dealt with this shit. His Foggy has accepted that there will almost always be a third person somewhere in their relationship and that actually makes him kind of happy so that he doesn’t have to be the only person Matt has to support him emotionally. (That is def a two-man job at the least)

Wade: pansexual and panromantic.

Wade cannot and will not be stopped. Everyone is fair game.

Wade is surprisingly monogamous in committed relationships, however. His solution to this, naturally, is to not fucking commit. Obvs that makes everything chill and he can do whatever he wants with whoever he wants.

Wade’s the most comfortable with his sexuality and identity and he’s got a flag of some type stuffed at the bottom of every bag he owns. He buys Peter his first full-sized poly flag and then panics when he starts crying and hugs Wade and won’t let go, because to Wade, this is just what older queer people do. It’s just his responsibility to make coming out as least painful and most normal as possible.

He offers Matt similar support and meets a fucking wall, so he gets around that by flirting mercilessly with him and getting him to tell the craziest hook-up stories he has, which Matt is more comfortable doing.

As for the copy cats, ITSV crew etc.

Miles: staight-up? I’m not sure. I don’t really consider Miles to be one thing or another. I think either straight or maybe ace? (a tiny voice in my head keeps saying, ftm trans, but straight, so do with that what you will).

Gwen: our baby lesbian queen. She’s young and trying to figure out that nebulous line between strong friendship and strong romance/chemistry.

B.: begrudgingly pan. (he doesn’t like labels and he doesn’t like that being pan makes him match his Wade)

Peter: bi

Little Red: bi, bi, bi

Angel: biiiiii

Louis: straight as a fucking board, get it together, Louis

Dave: mostly straight but very occasionally flexible

Bitsy: again, I’m not so sure. I think Bitsy might actually be ace.

You’re adorable thank you for the many, many compliments in the other message. You are so sweet.

As for this: yeah, I got a couple folks saying they didn’t realize Tats had tats and that’s fair. @beeuma is an enabler for me sometimes and they sent me this ask a while ago which was basically crack for the artist side of my brain. And so from then on, in my head, he had tats. They made their first explicit appearance in take cover.

As for this idea, I think a side fic might be a little much because most of the folks in Inimitable meet Peter when he already has hella tats.

What might be great is Matt and Wade’s frequent check-in of “how the fuck many are there now?” Because Pete always seems to be getting work done.

Like, Pete takes Ned and MJ with him most of the time when he’s getting new ink, but once he takes Fogs who snorts and is like ‘hey, you know I’ve got a tattoo?’ and Pete nearly gets some unintended contour lines because he just flies up like ‘WHAT?’ and Foggy shows him some little things he got done in undergrad (not the ‘Fog Life’ shit he got in the comic, christ, someone spare us that embarrassment, no) but anyways, he tells Peter that Matt hates the sound of the needle which is basically like fuel to a fire for Pete, so he goes out and makes Matt come with him once. Then he makes Wade come. And then he picks his way through all his super-pals until the artist is like, damn sure that this guy is sleeping with half the city. 

I like to think that the real impact comes when the copycats start asking him what the tats represent and that’s where it gets kind of solemn, because Pete will get the names of folks he tried and couldn’t save tattooed on his calf and he’s got the daffodils to remind him of his only living family, and he’s got the names and structures of the chemicals in his brain and body which have saved his own life. Dopamine. Seratonin. Adrenaline. Cortisol. And he’s got these geometric patterns as representations of his friends and the NYC skyline and a fuckload of little symbols and pictures that mean a lot to him.

And I think that Louis and Angel would want to get a tat with him in case they don’t stay Spiderman, so that they’ll always have something to remember that part of their lives by. So they go and get it done and it’s always a thing for Miles, because he wants to get it done, too. So it’s like a coming of age thing for him when he turns 18.

Yeah, there’s definitely a lot which can be done around the tats, that’s for sure!

What are the major differences between all of your universes

Hi anon, sorry this took so long to get to.

Really, the best answer to this question is that you should read the verses to figure it out. There are slight differences in characterization, there are age differences and differences in team dynamics.

If I had to lay it out, it would look like this:

DFV - fresh and shiny Team Red. they’re all slowly getting to know each other. Matt is irritable and guarded. Wade is trying to figure out his place in relation to the other two. Peter is slowly being exposed to more vigilante behavior.

In this verse, Matt is is starting to plateau a little with his Daredeviling. Wade is caught between Team Red and his A-Team (him, Dom, and Cable) and basically living a triple life between those two teams and being himself (that’s why he’s always so fucking tired). And Peter, bless him, is just starting to take off.

In the DFV the guys view each other as brothers more than anything else. There are strong family dynamics here.

Dreamcoats (some folks call this the technicolor verse)- this is a more established Team Red. This verse is an off-shoot of the DFV and the two might be read together in some places (if people want to, I don’t mind folks picking and choosing things from the verses to create their own kind of universe/canon for these guys), but they are not the same.

For example, DFV Matt would not trust Brett or reveal his identity for even a second and DFV Wade categorically hates the police.

Dreamcoats Peter is also much more in-tune with himself, more independent, and much more involved in vigilantism than DFV Peter. Dreamcoats Peter is rocketing towards having issues with authority. Dreamcoats Matt is a little more manic and a little more reckless and silly than DFV Matt. Dreamcoats Wade is also a bit sillier and perhaps even aloof than his DFV counterpart.

In the Dreamcoats verse, the team is more of an equal partnership between all members. They all feed each others’ bad habits and they all push and shove with less regard for a given age or family-type of hierarchy.

Inimitable - this is an old, well-worn Team Red which has suddenly been opened up to new members and is sorting through that.

The members of the Inimitable Verse Team Red are:

Peter

Matt

Wade

Dave (the good Daredevil copycat, see Inimitable for the 2 bad daredevil copycats)

Angel/Little Spidey (the first spiderman copycat Peter encounters)

Louis (the second spiderman copycat, Angel’s friend)

Miles (Miles is the most recent addition to the team and is classified as a copycat for now)

Inimitable Peter is ten years older than the other Peters. He’s jaded and grumpy, but also hopeful and extremely dynamic. He’s just about perfected the Spiderman persona, so he’s charming and handsome and silly and fucking stupid; he’s got a knack for leadership that he carefully ignores. The problem Inimitable Peter currently has is that he struggles with a lot of internal issues. He’s perfectly fine, great even, as Spiderman, but he doesn’t know how to translate those values into being Peter Parker.

Inimitable Matt is a fucking ridiculous human being. He’s kind of thrown a lot of his dark, edginess to the wind and decided that being hideously enthusiastic and overzealous in everything he does is more his style (peak drama queen, if you will). He’s more stable and mature than the other Matts and he’s much more domestic as well (mostly because he and Fogs are in a much better/more mature relationship than the other Matts and Foggys)

Inimitable Wade is actually quite mysterious. He’s a little less predictable than the other Wades and more impulsive and explosive. He spends more time doing his thing off Team Red than on it. He’s extremely protective and doting with Peter, but he also loves nothing more than to piss Pete off and annoy him. Inimitable Wade and Matt have a casually contentious relationship, but only they can fuck with each other. The second someone else tries to, they both leap to the others’ defense. This Wade is very fond of Little Spidey and small children.

Anyways, that’s the big characterization stuff. I hope that helps, anon!
