Every time this pops up in my notes again I wonder if I should do more discourse/conversation analysis on scenes from shows or movies or whatnot. Because I find it fun to bring a concrete sociolinguistic analysis to an exchange and examine HOW it does what it does and WHY it makes us feel what it does.

When Percy looks at annabeth before singing the consensus song at Grover that was the first time he brought her in on a joke. He’s socially aligning himself with her rather than fighting and arguing with her. He wordlessly invites her in on ribbing Grover. THATS the start of something BEAUTIFUL
