i cannot stand the fact adap Chishiya is a Hearts player, sowz. it's clear to me the adap writers completely misunderstood what makes someone a Hearts player in the first place and ran with it.

Chishiya can read others emotions to some extent, sure, but not in-depth enough to sympathize.

you wanna know why Chishiya (and Niragi) are Diamonds players? because they don't care enough to truly understand the hearts of others. they manipulate situations, not (usually) out of desperation, but because it's all they know. they lack a genuine understanding with others.

(adap) Arisu being a Diamonds player also completely misses the point: Arisu is so similar to Chishiya and Niragi that if, at any point prior to the Borderlands, he had one more thing go wrong, he could've ended up like the two of them; but he didn't because he refused to be like that.

Arisu is a Hearts player because he's both smarter than he gives himself credit for, and emotionally mature enough to take to heart (wink wink) the emotions of others and actively put himself in their shoes to get through a game.

that last reason is why Matsushita Enji is such a lousey Hearts player, because, like Chishiya and Niragi, he isn't emotionally mature enough to truly be good at Hearts. he has great setups, sure, but he's too proud to acknowledge other players and their inteligence, which is why he was ultimately defeated by Yaba and Banda.

Yaba and Banda both come from backgrounds where they need to read others to some extent: Yaba, a CEO who climbed the corporate ladder by reading others and using those emotions to his advantage (as we saw happen with Arisu when he was confronted by the militants), and Banda, a misogynistic murderer who got into the houses of women he killed, needed to be agile enough to get them to trust him by manipulating the situation in his favor, all while keeping in mind the emotions of those he killed.

Hearts games are not won by sheer manipulation, as we saw with Enji and Urumi; there needs to be a level of connection with others if you want to survive, which is also why Mitsurugi's defeat was so upsetting; ideally, he did everything right, but ultimately was a bit too confident in his plan and thus, refused to acknowledge the power the other players had. he was too good of a person.

Mira is a bit of an outlier, not because she was bad at the games or anything, but because she's the perfect mix of both understanding and master manipulator; if she went up against any other player in the Borderlands, they would easily lose. Arisu almost lost too, but as we've established, Hearts games are built off connections with others and Usagi was needed in order to make it.

I'm sure Mira was well-aware of that fact, especially with Arisu, but her ulimate failure was the same as Mitsurugi's: she ended up downplaying the connection between him and Usagi. Hearts games need love, level-headedness, mild manipulation, and an open mind if you intend to win.

going back to my main point, that's why Chishiya either avoids Hearts games all together, manipulates people during them, or turns to violence; he lacks the emotional maturity and agency to clear one the way they are meant to be cleared, why Arisu is a much better Hearts player than Chishiya will ever be, and why the adap writers completely misunderstood that point.

Theatre of Darkness: Yamishibai (2013--) - It's kind of giving "Are you afraid of the dark?", but like with Japanese urban legends, or is it just me? Maybe it's just the story within a story kind of format that makes me think of that.

Bonding (2019-2021) - I'm giving them some extra points because at least they tried a little harder in season 2, plus I just view it as a silly little show to put on that you don't have to think too much about rather than a serious show trying to do very accurate representation. (and at least is much better than the trash fire 50 Shades of Grey is)

Pinterest Alice in Borderland fans are so fucking annoying

Recently watched the Hobbit movies for the first time and mostly I'm underwhelmed at the incredibly bad and unnecessary CGI. But when I tell you... the feels I got at the beginning of the third film when Bard is trying to shoot down Smaug and his arrows are bouncing off and his son comes climbing up the tower with the single black arrow, and Bard is clearly torn between wanting to shout at his son to get to safety and the need to keep him close, the need for him to be part of this fight because it's their fight—and as he improvises a giant cross bow, he rests the arrow on his son's shoulder because he can't do it alone but he tells his son to look at him even though Smaug is heading straight at his back, and Bard is relying on his son's help ("a little to the left") but he's also parenting in the middle of the battle ("look at me") even as he's the only chance to take out the beast that's ravaged his people for generations and I just—it's impossible to watch this in the current geopolitical moment of children being killed in war in the most blatant and uncaring way; it's also that I have two sons who about that age. But the image of the dragon coming for them both, and the son helping despite not yet being grown, and Bard's fatherhood being an inextricable part of his bravery to save the city.....fuck, man. Fuck

She hangs behind, watching as most of the other people around her pace around or move, unable to keep themselves still. She wraps her arms around herself, an act to make herself seem smaller, weaker, and scared. No one is paying attention to her, which makes it easy to watch her opponents. Who is fidgety, who is new, who has already been through this before, who is going to die quickly?

But doing things by yourself is never really good, not because she wants to make friends, but from what she had seen in the past couple of days, forming short fake friendships tends to give you an upper ledge. Especially if you are the weaker member, the one that snivels and shivers with fear. As the older woman, tears streaking down her face, smudging her makeup, moves forward as if debating whether she should leave or stay, Johanna already knows the decision. She’s acting like a rabbit caught in a trap, she’s gonna bolt.

There is a quick tap tap tap of her heels on the floor before the familiar long beep of the lasers easily kills her, her body dropping into a pile. She hears a gasp, and people look away and she smiles, briefly. One less person needs to die so that she can survive this game and get time to eat and rest before the next one. Johanna had noticed another woman, somewhere around her age, a bit older, looking directly at the dead woman, and she scurried behind her, eyes downcast. The perfect image of fear in this new hellscape of the world that they have found themselves in.

“ Yes. ” She makes herself look up, voice weak, adding a bit to her performance as she glances towards the dead woman before seemingly wincing. “ I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do. Can I tag along? ”

She might need a partner for this one, she might not, but it doesn’t hurt to have the option ready for when the game starts. “ I’m Johanna, nice to meet you. ” She offers her a hand meekly before she turns towards the screen displaying the timer that slowly goes down to zero. And then after a brief pause, a short explanation about the game, the level of difficulty, and how many can survive. This is going to be easy, she can’t help but think looking at the people around her. And she seems to have been lucky with having someone capable with her. Fun.

Hi. I see you're obsessed with AiW. I don't remember how it holds up bc I read it while it was ongoing on a manga piracy site but have you ever heard of Are You Alice? It's another where Alice is (or isn't! Who knows. I genuinely don't remember if there was a plot twist to change that) is portrayed as a guy. I don't remember much about it at all except some vague visuals. But I thought I would mention it.

It been a while i wanted to talk about this but i wouldn’t sound like the annoying kind.

But. Kuzuryuu’s game.

Whatever it was Aqua Regia (like in the manga) or acid sulfuric, the fume both release are highly toxic to humans. And acid sulfuric doesn’t even smell so you wouldn’t even know! (Aqua regia has an awful smell which probably was how the old man was able to tell what it was.)

Even when the game only took around 15 to 20 min, just the ton of fume it released during the two first acid deaths would have been enough to kill all the others :) Also acid sulfuric is more of a oily liquid and become really agressive (and toxic) if mixed with water.

Also it’s a small, underground with no windows room so that doesn’t help.

I would have used lava. Sodium hydroxyde. I would have used sodium hydroxyde. It liquefies rather well animals (and human) and it’s not toxic. It’s not even an acid! It’s a base and does as well the job
