DNIs and Intolerated Behaviour

Basic DNI stuff (Because it's wrong)-

Sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or any sort of bigotry or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated here.

Personal DNI stuff (Things I don't want to see from accounts in my notes or on my dash):

-Accounts that post harmful stereotypes and prejudice, of any kind. This definitely includes radfems, terfs, trans androphobia/misogyny, and misgendering feminine men (promoting toxic masculinity)

-Niragi glazers. This does NOT include people who like the actor, Dori, or people who like Niragi's addition to the story/the way his character is written. But saying Niragi is hot? Excusing his actions? Nuh uh please no.

-Proshippers (This can include non-human x human). Some Yokai Watch examples I can think of are Katie x Kyubi, Nate x Blizarria/Damona, Komasan x Komajiro, etc.. Just an ick.

-People who post art of/headcanon the Yokai Watch trans mtf Nate Adams headcanon. It makes me uncomfortable and I don't want it being forced on me anymore, if you like it then fair enough but if you draw it or actively talk about it then DNI.

-People who post, draw, or write NSFW content, this includes hardcore gore or sexual themes, I feel uncomfortable seeing that (especially Yokai Watch NSFW, it's a kids show).

i cannot stand the fact adap Chishiya is a Hearts player, sowz. it's clear to me the adap writers completely misunderstood what makes someone a Hearts player in the first place and ran with it.

Chishiya can read others emotions to some extent, sure, but not in-depth enough to sympathize.

you wanna know why Chishiya (and Niragi) are Diamonds players? because they don't care enough to truly understand the hearts of others. they manipulate situations, not (usually) out of desperation, but because it's all they know. they lack a genuine understanding with others.

(adap) Arisu being a Diamonds player also completely misses the point: Arisu is so similar to Chishiya and Niragi that if, at any point prior to the Borderlands, he had one more thing go wrong, he could've ended up like the two of them; but he didn't because he refused to be like that.

Arisu is a Hearts player because he's both smarter than he gives himself credit for, and emotionally mature enough to take to heart (wink wink) the emotions of others and actively put himself in their shoes to get through a game.

that last reason is why Matsushita Enji is such a lousey Hearts player, because, like Chishiya and Niragi, he isn't emotionally mature enough to truly be good at Hearts. he has great setups, sure, but he's too proud to acknowledge other players and their inteligence, which is why he was ultimately defeated by Yaba and Banda.

Yaba and Banda both come from backgrounds where they need to read others to some extent: Yaba, a CEO who climbed the corporate ladder by reading others and using those emotions to his advantage (as we saw happen with Arisu when he was confronted by the militants), and Banda, a misogynistic murderer who got into the houses of women he killed, needed to be agile enough to get them to trust him by manipulating the situation in his favor, all while keeping in mind the emotions of those he killed.

Hearts games are not won by sheer manipulation, as we saw with Enji and Urumi; there needs to be a level of connection with others if you want to survive, which is also why Mitsurugi's defeat was so upsetting; ideally, he did everything right, but ultimately was a bit too confident in his plan and thus, refused to acknowledge the power the other players had. he was too good of a person.

Mira is a bit of an outlier, not because she was bad at the games or anything, but because she's the perfect mix of both understanding and master manipulator; if she went up against any other player in the Borderlands, they would easily lose. Arisu almost lost too, but as we've established, Hearts games are built off connections with others and Usagi was needed in order to make it.

I'm sure Mira was well-aware of that fact, especially with Arisu, but her ulimate failure was the same as Mitsurugi's: she ended up downplaying the connection between him and Usagi. Hearts games need love, level-headedness, mild manipulation, and an open mind if you intend to win.

going back to my main point, that's why Chishiya either avoids Hearts games all together, manipulates people during them, or turns to violence; he lacks the emotional maturity and agency to clear one the way they are meant to be cleared, why Arisu is a much better Hearts player than Chishiya will ever be, and why the adap writers completely misunderstood that point.

rewatching aib and i’m just thinking abt valgrace in it.

whoever doesn’t know what aib is: alice in borderland is a japanese drama where the characters have to play games in order to survive. these games are based off playing cards meaning that each suit is a different type of game (spades - physical, diamonds - wit, etc) and the number of the card determines difficulty (face cards like king and queen are inherently much, much more difficult than a card of 2 or 7). not to mention that players can also just chill and relax until their visas are up. if they fail to play a game beforehand, boom they die. and last but not least about the games; players don’t know what type it will be until registration is closed. basically the gist of what aib is.

but anyway. valgrace.

i definitely think they wouldn’t have met until they entered the borderlands. maybe it was during a game or even in passing but they meet.

and while they both have extraordinary skills depending on who they were before entering the borderlands, leo would be extremely well-versed in diamond games while jason excels at spades games.

so the way i’m thinking is that if they were to meet in a game, it would probably be one of those or even a club game (because clubs are teamwork games and hearts games genuinely play with your heart). so they meet and all in all, they end up working together��protecting one another, picking up what the other lacks, bouncing off of each other’s capabilities pretty much.

and they spend a lot of time together after that, possibly even meeting the others like percy or piper or nico. but it just doesn’t last.

because the universe will never let them love each other and live. so jason loses leo in a hearts game and he’s fucking devastated. and the thing is—this is a spoiler but i mean come on, aib has been out since 2020 i think—is that after they return to the real world, it doesn’t even matter. because jason doesn’t remember anything about the borderlands but there’s always that emptiness in him. and he doesn’t know what it is or what it could be.

which then brings me to the next drama.

squid games.

jason would still lose leo before inevitably dying himself. remember that marble game with saebyeok and jiyeong? yeah. leo would sacrifice himself, he would thank jason for playing with him, for talking about getting out together and making their plans that are nothing but a pipe dream. and just like saebyeok, jason dies later on.

it’s always going to be unfair. they’ll never be able to love each other and grow old together because it’s simply impossible. they’re not allowed to.

i just think that no matter what universe it is, valgrace will never completely have eachother. they’re just so fucking doomed. and i love them for that.

Theatre of Darkness: Yamishibai (2013--) - It's kind of giving "Are you afraid of the dark?", but like with Japanese urban legends, or is it just me? Maybe it's just the story within a story kind of format that makes me think of that.

Bonding (2019-2021) - I'm giving them some extra points because at least they tried a little harder in season 2, plus I just view it as a silly little show to put on that you don't have to think too much about rather than a serious show trying to do very accurate representation. (and at least is much better than the trash fire 50 Shades of Grey is)

I FEEL LIKE I JUST WON WAR

Recently watched the Hobbit movies for the first time and mostly I'm underwhelmed at the incredibly bad and unnecessary CGI. But when I tell you... the feels I got at the beginning of the third film when Bard is trying to shoot down Smaug and his arrows are bouncing off and his son comes climbing up the tower with the single black arrow, and Bard is clearly torn between wanting to shout at his son to get to safety and the need to keep him close, the need for him to be part of this fight because it's their fight—and as he improvises a giant cross bow, he rests the arrow on his son's shoulder because he can't do it alone but he tells his son to look at him even though Smaug is heading straight at his back, and Bard is relying on his son's help ("a little to the left") but he's also parenting in the middle of the battle ("look at me") even as he's the only chance to take out the beast that's ravaged his people for generations and I just—it's impossible to watch this in the current geopolitical moment of children being killed in war in the most blatant and uncaring way; it's also that I have two sons who about that age. But the image of the dragon coming for them both, and the son helping despite not yet being grown, and Bard's fatherhood being an inextricable part of his bravery to save the city.....fuck, man. Fuck
