Hope you’re doing good ☺️☺️ Prompt: Amelia cant sleep through the night bc the baby is kicking too much so the next day at work she’s really tired so everyone notices it but she’s denying it but then she falls asleep and Link goes to be with her and takes her home
Stand By Me
a/n: I'm so sorry this took so long, I had absolutely no ideas for this, and I went a bit off the prompt, but I hope you all enjoy this! also, if you have any requests, please send them! I need some inspiration right now...
-------------------------
Link woke up to the bright light from his girlfriend’s phone next to him in bed. He cringed at the brightness, squinting as his eyes adjusted. “Amelia, what time is it?” He whispered, looking at the darkness of the bedroom.
“Uh, about 3 in the morning.”
“Why aren’t you asleep?” She set her phone down on her stomach.
“He keeps kicking and I can’t settle.” Link sat up in the bed and placed a hand over her stomach. “Did I wake you?”
“No, you’re fine. You should try and sleep, though. We have work in a few hours.”
“I tried. It’s fine, I’m not tired.” She brushed her hand through his hair and made eye contact with him through the little light coming through the window. “Go back to sleep, Link.”
-------------------------
He watched as she struggled to pull on her scrub top, her fingers adjusting the bottom to cover her growing stomach. Link walked over to her, kneeling and tying the shoelaces of her sneakers. “Thanks,” she muttered, stifling a yawn before quickly covering her mouth.
“Do you want to go take a nap? You look exhausted, and I have an hour before surgery.” Amelia walked away, taking a teabag from the tray and placing it into her mug.
“Nah, I’m not tired.” He filled up his coffee, stirring in the sugar.
“You sure? You didn’t sleep last night, and you kind of look like you’re gonna pass out in a second.” She chuckled and walked over to him, placing her hand on his cheek.
“I’m good. I’ll see you later.” After a quick kiss, she waved goodbye and left the lounge with her tea in hand. Link rolled his eyes, amused by his girlfriend’s stubbornness and knowing she’d be fast asleep in a few hours.
-------------------------
“Suture, please.” The nurse handed Amelia the suture, watching as the neurosurgeon began to close the patient on the table. Maggie looked up.
“Are you okay, Amelia?” The brunette furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
“I’m fine, why?”
“You look really tired and uncomfortable. I can finish here if you want to go rest.” Amelia groaned and looked up.
“Did Link tell you to do this? To check up on me? Because I’m fine, I’m not tired.”
“He didn’t, I was just checking.” She finished the sutures, handing the tools over to the nurse before walking away and pulling off her surgical gown.
“I find that hard to believe,” Amelia muttered while turning on the faucet. “Page me with any updates?”
“I was going to head home, do you want a ride?” Maggie took off her mask and placed it into the disposal bin before joining Amelia at the sink in the scrub room.
“Yes, but not because I’m tired, I’m fine.”
-------------------------
Link sighed as he unlocked the front door, using the key to Meredith’s house that Amelia had recently given him. The further into her pregnancy she got, the less she wanted to get up and walk around or let him in, always complaining about her swollen ankles or the extra weight she was carrying around. Hence his confusion when he walked through the door and saw her standing in the kitchen, wiping down the inside of the oven. “What are you doing?” He questioned, taking off his shoes and glancing at her from down the hallway. She stood up at the sound of her boyfriend’s voice.
“I’m cleaning because there are way too many people living in this house, and it’s a complete mess in here. I don’t think this oven has been cleaned in the past year.” He raised an eyebrow at her before hearing laughs coming from her sisters in the living room. Amelia turned back to the oven to clean as Link walked towards the other women, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the doorway. Meredith smiled and took a sip of her drink.
“She’s nesting, and she insisted on cleaning the house. I wasn’t gonna say no, she’s not wrong about how disgusting everything is.” He glanced back into the kitchen, seeing Amelia washing her hands in the sink. “You’re probably going to have to rub her feet later, she was cursing you out before you got here.”
“She was cursing at me?” Meredith nodded.
“Keeps complaining about her feet, how sore her back is, how mad she is at you for being a man,” Maggie said.
“Her exact words were something like, ‘Stupid men and their stupid sperm’ followed by some dramatic sighing.” He scoffed, turning back to her in the kitchen.
“Can I help?” Amelia paused to look at him. “With the cleaning.” She pointed to the sink.
“Dishes.” Link smiled, rolling his sleeves up and walking towards the sink. He busied himself with the dirty dishes, occasionally stopping to watch Amelia as she scrambled around the kitchen. He placed the last plate onto the drying rack, dried his hands, and turned around.
“Let’s head up to bed, Amelia. You look exhausted.”
“No, we have to clean, the baby could get here any day and I don’t want him to come home to a mess,” she murmured, continuing to scrub the countertop.
“You can clean tomorrow, Amelia. Let’s go to bed.” She hesitantly allowed him to guide her upstairs, his hand on the small of her back as he walked behind her. She fell back onto the bed, wrapping her hands around her bump. “You gonna put on pajamas?” Link asked, opening her drawers and pulling out some sweatpants and a t-shirt. She groaned dramatically and sat up, propping herself up with her arms behind her. The brunette pulled down her pants, slipping into the sweatpants he was holding out for her. She replaced her sweater with a Mariner’s t-shirt, one she had stolen from his apartment and worn when he worked night shifts. “You need to sleep, Amelia.”
“Like we’re gonna get any sleep once he’s born. Plus, he keeps kicking me.” Link sat down on the bed beside her and placed a hand on the top of her bump. He moved so his face was hovering over it and he grinned. “What are you doing?”
“Talking to the baby, Meredith said it calmed Bailey down when she was pregnant.” He paused for a moment before beginning to ramble about his day at work while rubbing the underside of her bump. When he finished, he glanced up to see her eyes closed and her chest rising and falling gently with each breath. He smiled, pulling the comforter over her body and laying down next to her, softly whispering, “I love you,” before closing his eyes.
