EPITOME OF SIN
— zhongli x f! reader x neuvillette
syn: Neuvillette doesn’t know why he agreed to such a brazen proposal from his lover—that is, to sit and watch while the ex-Geo Archon shamelessly takes you for his pleasure.
18+ MDNI; explicit smut, unprotected sex, cuckolding, masturbation (m), neuvillette being horny and overwhelmed and zhongli being a lil menace, pet name (my sweet girl). divider: cafekitsune.
word count: ~1k or less
notes: not proofread! advance apologies for any typos. idk how long i’ve had this drafted but yeah!! i got around to finally finishing it hehe.
Neuvillette always saw himself as a calm, and collected man; lilac gaze mirroring the cerulean tranquil waters of the Weeping Willow of the Lake—he was never the one to unnecessarily raise his voice nor show the expression of anger. At least that’s what his lover, you, had said to him from one’s astute observation.
So why was the Chief Justice the complete opposite right this very moment? Heart thrumming against his chest like the speed of the harsh winds in Loch Urania; blood boiling like hot vermillion lava from the volcanos of Natlan, Neuvillette seethed at the wickedly sinful sight in front of him—teeth clenched, nails digging into the poor azure fabric of the sofa beneath him. Your lover was painted crimson red, not knowing if it stemmed from anger, embarrassment, or lust.
Anger, because Neuvillette didn’t know why he had agreed to such an insane proposal. Though, insane was an understatement. He surveyed your sweat-covered naked body, rocking back and forth, back and forth from the forceful thrusts of another man—the geo archon.
Rex Lapis, Morax, Deus Auri, the usurper of the element of stone. He should be the only man sheathed beyond your walls so intimately; he should be the one pulling those saccharine moans from your soft lips; he should be the sole reason for your immense pleasure.
Embarrassment, because Neuvillette was too turned on at the sight before him to admit—though, his cock pushing against the navy slacks he donned was more than a telling sign. He was ashamed, felt absolutely filthy for getting aroused at such an outlandish sight. There were so many things wrong here and, yet Neuvillette had the audacity to be horny; he would give himself the heaviest sentence in the history of Fontaine, for heaven’s sake.
The Iudex could feel his skin prickle, diminutive sharp kisses shooting all over his heated skin, fingers wanting to claw at the unbearable itch it left behind. He felt feverish but he couldn’t take his lilac gaze away from tracing your bare body—the way it responded to the heavenly pleasure Zhongli gave.
Lust, because at the end of the day—dragon or not—Neuvillette’s body responded the same way as a human’s body would when exposed to a sexual stimuli. The Chief Justice practically gawked at his dear lover and Zhongli on the bed; mouth slightly parted, tongue ever so lightly swiping at his bottom lip in effort to satiate his growing thirst.
All Neuvillette could hear were your dulcet moans reverberating throughout his cerulean-walled quarters, the way your pretty eyes rolled back in pure bliss; brows knitted in full concentration on your impending orgasm. Oh, Neuvillette wanted to be desperately inside you but all he could do was sit there.
Sit there and watch as Zhongli sinfully fucked you with enough drive to vex your lover. Outside, the people in the Court of Fontaine began to scramble for shelter at the first signs of water droplets beginning to fall from the azure sky; grey clouds looming over the Nation of Many Waters as it prepares for a downpour.
“Hydro dragon, Hydro dragon, don’t cry.” Zhongli brazenly teases with a strained voice, his amber eyes glowing like gold, piercing right through Neuvillette. The latter lets out a firm sigh, nails digging further into the softness of the seat.
“Please, don’t hold yourself back, Monsieur. We’re all here to have fun, aren’t we?” the dark-haired man continues before repositioning your naked body.
Zhongli hauls you up like a rag doll, both arms secured behind your back with his hand while the other makes its way to the strands on your head. He faced you towards Neuvillette—who sat there with blown pupils, holding onto the last piece of his sanity and reputation—before pounding into you again; balls slapping against your soaked entrance with every forceful thrust.
Letting out a sweet whimper, you stare starry-eyed at your lover as his hand wanders down to the apex of his legs. Zhongli clicks his tongue as he feels you clenching around his hard cock, and holds you against his sweaty chest, changing the angle of his thrusts.
“O-oh god!” You moan out as his tip kisses the saccharine spot within your velvety walls, shocks of icy pleasure caressing your spine. If it wasn’t for Zhongli’s hold, you would have fallen onto the mattress from the sheer strength of his thrusts and the pleasure alone. The divine man behind you growls, lips situated dangerously close to your ear,
“Yeah . . ? That’s right I’m your god.” Zhongli growls, loud enough for the Hydro Sovereign to hear, his tone unrecognisable—it was a far cry from the usual smoothness of his voice.
The ivory-haired man mirrored Zhongli’s growls yet it didn’t contain the same carnal hunger as the latter, no, it was pure rage. White, hot anger seethed from Neuvillette’s sitting figure as Zhongli spoke that very sentence, what a disgrace.
The Chief Justice sat there, every fibre of his body tingling and burning with silent chaos—like the calm before a thunderous storm, serene yet brimming with such force. You vigorously nod at Zhongli’s retort, even going as far as trying to form your own coherent reply only to come out in a twist of saccharine moans.
There was no hiding the rapid rise and fall of Neuvillette’s chest despite the expensive layers of cerulean fabric he donned. The sensation was too overwhelming for him, pressure uncomfortably pressed on every dip and curve of his body to the point where he couldn’t feel anything—no, he could feel everything. Everything at once and it drove the Iudex absolutely insane.
The jealousy, the lust, the embarrassment, it weaved its way down to his very core. Neuvillette didn’t know what he wanted to do, all your lover knew was that he needed a release. Now.
Neuvillette uncomfortably shuffled atop the plush of the cerulean sofa, delicate hands moving as fast as the lightnings that scattered throughout Inazuman waters. It was beyond shameful to be acting this way, his fingers fumbling the metal zipper of his slacks.
Before you knew it, your’s and Zhongli’s moans were accompanied by Neuvillette’s sinful ones—he didn’t hold back, almost as if he had completely let go of himself, his reputation, his standing with the Lord of Geo. The Iudex of Fontaine was reduced to nothing but a common whore, shamelessly filling the walls of his own quarters with brazen moans beyond his control.
It was a sight to see. Too bad the intense jolting of your naked body from Zhongli’s forceful thrusts were getting in the way from being able to properly see your lover’s fucked out expression but the desperate strokes of his hand was enough for you—enough to let you know that Neuvillette somewhat found pleasure in this despite the bizarreness of it.
He moaned, and grunted your name into the heights of the ceiling like there was no tomorrow; you’ve never seen him like this before—always the modest sighs and grunts whenever you had sex with him but nothing more. Neuvillette’s body was feverish, millions of tiny prickles spreading like wildfire as he stroked and stroked at his hard cock, hoping to finally reach that sweet release with you.
You moaned, a messy mix of both their names, earning a sharp hiss from the two males as they sucked in a sharp breath.
“I-I’m close. . Fuck . . !” “That’s it my sweet girl. Show your lover how good I’ll make you cum.”
Zhongli whispered, licking a long stripe up the side of your sweaty neck, golden gaze locked onto Neuvillette’s, taunting him. If it weren’t for the pleasure he was chasing this very moment, Neuvillette wouldn’t have thought twice before pulling you off the archon but his legs were trembling with icy bliss, unable to even take a few steps.
As if on cue, you clamp your walls around Zhongli’s cock, letting out a lewd sound before cumming. Your naked body hardened with pleasure, teeth gritting and digits curling as waves of bliss ran through your veins.
You couldn’t even hear Zhongli’s velvety praises as you came, the next thing you knew was that your moans became muffled—your face harshly coming into contact with the ivory sheets beneath as Zhongli pushed your head down to sinfully arch your back even more. He gave a couple more thrusts before pulling out and fisting his cock above your exhausted form, shooting endless ropes of hot cum onto your back as he moaned your name.
To his dismay, Neuvillette was the last to cum which meant you and Zhongli were able to see his current state in all its glory—all flushed and sweaty from desperately fisting his cock, moaning your name out with such need like he was a dragon in heat.
Hot cum coated his pale fingers, he sat there, cock still hard and catching his breath. Neuvillette had his eyes solely on you, like a quiet predator sizing up its main course for the night.
Maybe Neuvillette should show the Lord of Geo how to actually fuck you dirty until you and him were the epitome of sin.

zhongli x reader ✧ fluff, a touch of melancholy that comes with all archons ✧ 0.6k
Your thighs burn by the time you reach the waterfall on the outskirts of Liyue Harbor. The oppressive summer heat is just starting to ease as evening arrives, and you naturally run hot due to your Pyro vision, so sweat slides down the side of your face and your clothes stick to your skin.
You aren’t expecting to see a familiar figure standing on the bridge, hands clasped behind his back as he looks out at the city.
“Zhongli!” you call out, waving as he turns to face you.
He waits for you to get close before greeting you. “Good evening,” he says warmly. “Are you here to watch the sunset?”
“Good evening to you too! Yes, I’m here for the sunset as I enjoy my dinner.” You hold up what appears to be a bright red sack, but really is a large picnic blanket holding all your food and tied together with a bit of rope.
Zhongli seems intrigued, eyes passing from the blanket to your face. “Is this something you do often?”
“Oh, yes. At least once a week, if I can. The breeze off the waterfall feels so nice in the summer, and the climb here forces me to get a bit of exercise.”
He nods in understanding. “I see.” He looks into the distance, at the setting sun glinting off the rooftops of buildings in the city. You do the same, happy to be in his company.
After a moment of silence, Zhongli says, “I do not wish to disturb your evening plans, so I will take my leave. I hope you will enjoy your dinner.”
You blink in surprise, disappointment a bitter taste in your mouth. You had hoped he would stay, that you would get to talk to him more. “Oh- alright. Have a good night, Zhongli.”
He dips his head and returns your farewell. The bridge floorboards shift slightly under your feet as he steps away from the railing and passes behind you, shoes clicking against the wood. His hair sways with his movement, brown strands glittering under the sun.
Something about him turning his back to you makes your heart ache. He stands tall, head steadily looking forward, and yet– he looks like he has grown accustomed to a lifetime of solitude.
Without thinking, you call out after him. “Zhongli!” When he pauses and turns back to face you, your cheeks feel hot as you blurt out an invitation. “Would you like to join me?”
–
The sun has nearly set by the time you finish up your dinner. You are glad you brought a variety of steamed buns and a cucumber salad, as you were able to share some buns with Zhongli. The conversation has been light and pleasant, both of you rather absorbed in eating and watching the bright blue sky shift into warm yellows, oranges, and reds.
“This has been relaxing,” Zhongli says, breaking the silence.
You smile, pleased that he stayed the entire time and seemed to enjoy it. “I’m glad! It’s nice to take a break, isn’t it? You are welcome to join me for dinner and sunset watching anytime,” you offer, keeping your tone light and even despite the quickening beat of your heart.
He turns to look at you. The last rays of sunlight make his eyes glow from within, all golden and bright like refined Cor Lapis. “Is that so?” he asks. A small smile curves his lips. “I would like that. Next time, I’ll bring something as well—Osmanthus wine, perhaps?”
His voice is so wistful that all you can do is nod and smile, helpless in the face of all his sun-reflected glory.
requested by @fandomsuggestions for my camping event. reblogs and comments are much appreciated!

Herod’s palace rose up like some Alhambra on slender columns iridescent with Moresque tiles, which appeared to be bedded in silver mortar and gold cement; arabesques started from lozenges of lapis lazuli to wind their way right across the cupolas, whose mother-of-pearl marquetry gleamed with rainbow lights and flashed with prismatic fires. The murder had been done; now the executioner stood impassive, his hands resting on the pommel of his long, bloodstained sword. The Saint’s decapitated head had left the charger where it lay on the flagstones and risen into the air, the eyes staring out from the livid face, the colourless lips parted, the crimson neck dripping tears of blood. A mosaic encircled the face, and also a halo of light whose rays darted out under the porticoes, emphasized the awful elevation of the head, and kindled a fire in the glassy eyeballs, which were fixed in what happened to be agonized concentration on the dancer. With a gesture of horror, Salome tries to thrust away the terrifying vision which holds her nailed to the spot, balanced on the tips of her toes, her eyes dilated, her right hand clawing convulsively at her throat. [...] The dreadful head glows eerily, bleeding all the while, so that clots of dark red form at the ends of hair and beard. Visible to Salome alone, it embraces in its sinister gaze neither Herodias, musing over the ultimate satisfaction of her hatred, nor the Tetrarch, who, bending forward a little with his hands on his knees, is still panting with emotion, maddened by the sight and smell of the woman’s naked body, steeped in musky scents, anointed with aromatic balms, impregnated with incense and myrrh. Like the old King, Des Esseintes invariably felt overwhelmed, subjugated, stunned when he looked at this dancing-girl, who was less majestic, less haughty, but more seductive than the Salome of the oil-painting. In the unfeeling and unpitying statue, in the innocent and deadly idol, the lusts and fears of common humanity had been awakened; the great lotus-blossom had disappeared, the goddess vanished; a hideous nightmare now held in its choking grip an entertainer, intoxicated by the whirling movement of the dance, a courtesan, petrified and hypnotized by terror. Here she was a true harlot, obedient to her passionate and cruel female temperament; here she came to life, more refined yet more savage, more hateful yet more exquisite than before; here she roused the sleeping senses of the male more powerfully, subjugated his will more surely with her charms – the charms of a great venereal flower, grown in a bed of sacrilege, reared in a hot-house of impiety.

THE PRINCESS (3)
This is the third and last part of @nicebonescomrade request. Buckle up, guys, girls and non-binarys and anyone else that is reading this story. This is gonna be a ride, straight down to Angsttown.
- Lilith
Warnings: angst, yandere behavior/themes, killing of an entire nation, encagement, self-starvation, Stockholm Syndrome
The pride of humankind was burning. It's ashes were carried across the oceans, bedecking the other nations and telling them what would happen were they to anger Celestia.
(Name) watched in horror as red cubes streamed into her homeland, lava springing forth from the broken earth. The horrified screams of her people rang in her ears, making her deaf to the words of her dearest knight.
"(Name), please", Dainsleif begged, his strong hands holding onto her and stopping her from running off to find survivors and help them. For that was what she wanted to do, they both knew it. "Go. Survive. Carry Khaenri'ah's legacy with you so that noone ever forgets."
A broken sob escaped her, hands flailing to cover her tear and soot-stained cheeks. "How can I live when my people are dying in front of me, Dainsleif? How can I live and carry around the guilt of not being able to do anything?"
His arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her close, shielding her from the unpleasant view. They didn't have time. The longer they stayed behind, the higher was the chance that the Archons sent by Celestia found and destroyed them, too.
"Princess...please-"
"Get your dirty hands off her!", a deep voice growled. A brown spear forced the two Khaenri'ahns to part, arms slipping away from each other.
Dainsleif's sword appeared in his hand and he gritted his teeth. A pillar shot up from the ground, its pulse waves blasting him away from her. (Name) reached out to him, but a hand tinted in brown and gold grabbed hers and pulled her into a muscular chest.
Heavy pants sounded in her ear. She struggled to get away from the Geo Archon, hitting at his chest with her free hand, only for him to grab it and hold it still. His heartbeat was strong beneath her touch, stronger than a humans.
"Rex Lapis, please. You don't have to do this. Let us go, I beg of you, on behalf of our friendship."
The man shook his head as he buried his face in the soft tunic covering her shoulders. His hot breath made her shiver.
"Yes, friends...that's all we ever were to you, right, Princess (Name)?" He chuckled, as if his words were humorous.
(Name) furrowed her eyebrows, confused by this reaction. During her visits to Liyue and her forced meetings with its Archon, he always showed himself as a man interested in getting to understand her point of view. Asking her questions about her life, the commerce of Khaenri'ah...anything she allowed herself to answer.
It had formed a sort of friendship between them and she had even started looking forward to seeing him again, despite the wary feeling accompanying her each time.
"Isn't that what we are?"
The Geo Archon stood up to his full height so that he towered over her. His amber eyes glowed bright, slitted pupils blown wide. "Perhaps. But I always wanted more. And so did the other Archons. It's why we...decided to go disobey Celestia this one time.
He ran a hand through her hair, wrapping a lock around his clawed finger. "They will never find out what we did...and you will be with us, until the end of times. Our lovely princess."
(Name) didn't remember much after that. Her vision had faded and darkened and she floated in the arms of unconsciousness for a while. By the time she woke up, her body had been cleaned off the destruction of her home and dressed in the most luxurious silks she'd ever worn.
And Rex Lapis stayed true to his words.
The Archons locked her up in a temple-like building they had crafted just for her, a house so elegant and regal...and nothing more than a cage to keep her in. She was a pretty, exotic bird they visited whenever they could.
The first to come to her and explain it all to her was Venti.
His betrayal cut deep into her heart. The first friend she'd made in all of the nations turned out to be none other than the Anemo Archon Barbatos.
"I'm sorry for deceiving you", he said, the same joyful grin on his face as ever. Just that this time he wore his Archon outfit, two pure white wings fluttering nervously on his back. "I give my people freedom, let them govern themselves. That doesn't mean I don't watch them. I'm always with them, ready to help in times of need."
(Name) glared at him, gathering the blankets closer to her body and curling herself up in them. "That means nothing. You betrayed Khaenri'ah, my home!"
He averted his eyes, rubbing the back of his head in a sheepish gesture. "Celestia's orders have to be followed. Not even us Archons can go against them."
"And yet I am here. Alive while my nation is dead."
Barbatos sighed and sat down on the lush bed. His hand reached out to touch her head, but she pulled away, her glare deepening.
"This...you are different, (Name)", he whispered. "We love you. We couldn't stand the thought of losing you."
"Then I hope you're ready to bare my hate until the day I die, Barbatos." She spat out his name, disgust and anger creasing her face. "I will never forgive you. Any of you. You should have let me die with my people."
Barbatos only shook his head and stood up.
"I'm sorry. However we won't allow this. You will come to accept us, for you will spend all your eternity with us."
(Name) didn't know how they'd done it. Although it was hard to tell how much time passed outside, seeing as there were neither windows nor doors for her to look out of, she knew she should have showed signs of aging.
Grey hairs, creases on her skin, discoloration, yellowed teeth...anything that proved that she was a human.
But her hair stayed lush, her skin smooth, and her muscles strong.
The realization that the end she had so desperately hoped for may not ever come shut her up. She refused to talk to anyone, not even the maids.
Would her voice be hoarse, were she to talk again? Or would it have been as if she hadn't spent half an eternity mute?
The Archons were worried. However even they knew better than to push the former princess. They had taken her from her home after destroying it, and locked her up in a gilded cage. No matter how much their hearts soared in their chests, and their faces lightened up at the thought of coming back to a loved one, they knew that this was a big change for a human.
Their godly patience never wore thin.
Yet her defiance did.
The Geo Archon now going by the human name Zhongli didn't expect much from his visit to their precious Khaenri'ahn. He had made a simple soup for her with the help of Cloud Retainer, and bought a book he planned on reading to her.
To say he was surprised at her throwing her arms around him the moment he appeared in the center room of the temple was an understatement.
His wide, amber eyes stared down at the shaking shoulders of his beloved princess, who buried her face into the leather of his coat.
"(Name), my love?", he muttered, his free hand coming up to scratch at her scalp. She shivered and pressed closer to his warmth. "Is something wrong?"
Had they overdone it? Had one of the other Archons broken their agreement to be careful?
(Name) didn't answer and that worried him more. He let go of the food and book he'd been holding, uncaring that it spilled onto the ground. He wrapped one arm around her waist and hoisted her up, her legs automatically wrapping around his to steady herself.
Zhongli wanted to smile, his heart feeling as if it would burst out of his chest. He was so happy that she finally allowed him to touch her.
Yet her emotional state was more important than his own feelings.
He went into a lounging room and sat down with her on his lap. His hands rubbed soothing circles into her back.
"Tell me, beloved", he whispered into her ear, watching as goosebumps trailed down her neck. His eyes glowed for a second before he reigned in his urges to mark her. "Did the Tsaritsa upset you? Why are you crying?"
Red-rimmed eyes stared back at him, more tears flowing down her cheeks. He cupped her face, whipping them with his gloved hands. The princess pushed her face more into his hands, almost desperate.
Her answer was quiet. "No...she didn't."
Zhongli nodded, glad that it wasn't one of them that upset her. "Tell me what's wrong?"
She worried on her lower lip, the skin reddening under her bites.
"Go on, beloved. I won't judge you", he urged, fingers tracing her lips and making her stop hurting herself.
"I...I want to talk to you", (Name) admitted at last, now avoiding eye contact. "I don't...I hate not talking to anyone. I want to have real conversations with you. Dance with the Tsaritsa. Play instruments... Hear more stories from you. Sing with Barbatos. But...I feel so childish and undeserving. I've pushed you away for so long...you should have long since thrown me out."
All this time spent contemplating where she went wrong, she also remembered the times the Archons showed her kindness and hospitality. They never hurt her, never scolded her for her views. It wasn't easy forget, even in the face of the crime they'd committed under Celestia's orders.
Zhongli couldn't help himself. He laughed quietly, his shoulders rocking underneath her gentle touch. The princess on his lap tried to get away, but he pulled her close, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"You need not worry, beloved. We care for you, we still do, even after all this time. To hear that you truly want to spend time with us...I'm sure the others will be as happy as I am to hear that."
He brushed her hair aside, placing a soft kiss against her neck. She shuddered, a delicious gasp coming from her at the pleasurable sensation.
"We will do all that we've promised you, and more."
Zhongli pulled away, glowing amber eyes so full of love and care for the princess in his arms.
"Why don't we start right now, beloved? I got you a new book that just came out today. I'm sure you'll find yourself enjoying it." His voice dropped. "Or I can show you just how much I love you still.
A blush rushed to her cheeks. "The book sounds good", she stuttered out, body beginning to shake again.
The Geo Archon took note of the bit of hesitance and immediately restrained himself. A breakthrough it may be, but overwhelming her would just make her push them away again.
There'd be enough time to show her more once she fully came around.
Until then, reading books and telling stories to her would be more than enough to satisfy him.
As long as he had her in his arms, pliant and all too willing, he'd be happy.
Now that she accepted them for the most part, life in her gilded cage became less bleak and filled with happier days.
Barbatos taught her how to play a lyre and all the songs he knew.
The Tsaritsa hosted balls just for the two of them, where they'd dance across the floor until their feet hurt and they crashed onto the bed.
Baal showed her the Plane of Euthymia and how to meditate to create her own, should she ever feel the need to be alone.
The Hydro Archon brought her more instruments. Guitars, pianos, everything the City of Fontaine had to offer.
The Dendro Archon, valuing knowledge above all, told her the stories of Teyvat and the current trends. From the Outlander that came to their world and the Abyde Order.
Murata taught her how to fight, despite the reluctance of the other Archons. The relief and stability a regular workout gave her made her feel as if she was atop the world.
And last, but not least, Zhongli. The dragon that told her all the stories and history of Liyue. That allowed her to meet his adepti. That took her on a ride across his nation on the back of his dragon form.
The one that was the first to take her to bed.
And the one that, at the end, would be the Archon to open up her cage and follow her into the new world. Once Celestia had fallen to the Twin Travellers' hands and nothing was there to threaten (Name)'s life anymore.

vip list: @scaraslover
chef’s note: you did it right anon dw !!! hope you enjoy this <<3
zhongli could only stare at the view of the snowing forest, letting out a longing sigh.
when will you come home? he wonders, his dragon-like tail laying still on the ground instead of moving back and forth just like when you used to be here with him.
“i’ll be back,” you whispered, your forehead against zhongli’s cold, scaly ones. “i just need to settle with my father about the arranged marriage. i’ll be back once the marriage is rejected.”
zhongli nods in understanding, ignoring the way his heart sinks. “i understand. i shall wait for you even when many full moons had passed, just come back safe and sound, love.” he said, the way he sounds so loving and sincerity that it made you feel even more guilty and sad that you had to leave.
if only that ragnvindr man wasn’t so head over heels for you… then maybe you wouldn’t have to leave.
he feels his heart wrenched. just the thought of you not coming back because of another man doesn’t sit right with the cursed prince. do you know the things you do to him that he hasn’t experienced back when he used to be human like you?
“my lord,” xiao calls, his bird form landing on one of the railway of the balcony. “there’s a mob coming it’s way towards the palace. everyone’s already at its formation ready to fight back—”
“no need, xiao.” zhongli interrupts, eyes lowering down to his feet. “this is probably… y/n’s doing.”
the bird says no word to his lord’s response, bowing down slowly before he flies away. perhaps it was evident to xiao now that prince lapis alongside the rest of the people in the palace is bound to be cursed eternally, and there was nothing to hope for in the beginning when you first arrived the palace.
ganyu, in her goat form, couldn’t blame her fellow comrade and others for hoping. for the first time in her years of working in the palace, the woman has never seen the cold half-dragon prince being so… enthusiastically happy about a person — even back when he was nothing but a human. it made her hope as well that she’ll be back to being human.
it was a shame that there was nothing to hope.
and yet, when she alongside every single animals that were once humans suddenly hear the sound of the doors opening, followed by the sound of familiar footsteps, they couldn’t help but hope again.
meanwhile, as the chants of an angry mob started to suddenly grow faint, zhongli slowly kneels down to the ground, closing his eyes in defeat.
why did he foolishly think you’re in love with him? when he has a face of a beast.
he didn’t notice how a certain red-haired man stops the mob that was close to the entrance of his palace that he calls home. he didn’t notice how a certain rose that stands in his chambers glowing vividly like a candlelight that reminds him of cor lapis. he didn’t notice how a certain person rushing in his palace towards his room.
he didn’t notice, for he shuts the world away just like when he was suddenly turned into a half-dragon.
but then, he finally noticed.
he notices the doors to his chambers opening, causing him to slowly turn around — only for his breath to hitch at the sight of you standing outside.
has celestia finally heard his prayers?
“zhongli,” you called out his name, his heart flutters the way you call him so lovingly and sweetly like what a lover does.
he slowly stands, his tail now moving side to side.
“is that… really you my love?” the prince asks. he prays — in a desperate manner — that this was not another trick made by his cruel mind into making him think that you’re here.
the moment you rushed towards him and tackled him, causing him to stumble on his steps but prevented himself from falling in fear of hurting you.
“you came back..?”
“of course i did, you foolish prince.” you said and let out a small laugh. “i said i was coming back to you, didn’t i? how else would i say i love you?”
he smiles, leaning his forehead against yours as the both of you smile from ear-to-ear. “how foolish of me… i love you too.”
you then cup his cheeks, making him now look at you. “is it fine if we… kiss?” you ask, feeling your cheeks starting to warm from your boldness.
it took a second for the prince to feel his breath hitch in realization from your question. was he hearing that right?
it took a silent moment before he closes his eyes and hums, placing his large hands on top of yours as well. “i thought you never asked.”
it took one kiss before he finally feels the weight on his shoulders finally lifted.
it took one love with someone he thought would never be considered as his lover, for the prince to finally be cured from his curse.

dragon’s claim
Zhongli's sweet darling needs a... gentle, reminder of what exactly they are to each other
this is a collab piece with one of my friends~ they are much better at writing fluff than i am and it hits me in the feels
-------------------------------------
She’s not pouting. Absolutely not. She’s also not glaring at the woman currently leaning on Zhongli’s arm, staring up at him with heart eyes as he rambles happily about the tea he was buying. Her arms are crossed and she leans heavily into the railing of the bridge, jaw clenched and teeth grinding.
No. She is not jealous of some… some… harlot! With a loud huff, she pushes off the railing and walks off the bridge, hearing her sandals click against the wood and then stone. Once she’s close enough, the tall geo archon looks up and gives that stupidly cute smile, cheerfully calling her name.
She refuses to acknowledge him and waits for him to finish his conversation. “Ready to go home dear?” he said with a sweet smile. She doesn’t respond and starts walking away back through the market as gently pulls her close to him. He sighs and leads her to a side alley, where she leans against a wall still not looking at him. He leans in close.
“Is my darling jealous?” He whispers, tucking her hair back behind her ear. His fingertips trace around her temple, then under her eye, before cupping her face. “You know I only hold affection for you, little one.”
He tenderly presses kisses over her cheeks and nose, placing a firm one on her lips. He pulls back enough to stare into her eyes, seeing the internal fight she is having. To submit to him or continue to pout and sulk. It makes him sigh and shut his eyes- as though a headache was creeping up on him.
“It seems I am going to have to… remind you, of that fact.” He decides, sliding his hands down to her wrists and brings her hands up to kiss them. His eyes peek open, glowing a warm amber in the dying light as he gives her a heated look. “I’m going to make love to you until your heart understands how much I love you.”
She pulls her face away and with a sad pout says, "Remind me of what Rex Lapis?"
He frowns, "That's not-"
"Remind me that only I get jealous and that the great Rex Lapis doesn't?!" she said with tears starting to fall down her face. "I'm the only one who gets possessive over you and you don't! It's like it doesn't bother you if someone else looks at me like that! Maybe next time Kaeya tries to-"
He slammed his hands into the wall, pinning her to it, "Kaeya did what?" he said with a low growl, his pupils having shifted into slits.
She shuddered for a moment. Seeing the amount of territorial possessive in his eyes made her heart stop and she struggled to find the words.
“Little one,” he said sternly, “I’m going to ask you again. What did Kaeya do?”
She took a deep breath. “The other day Kaeya came by the office and was trying to flirt as usual and he asked me if I wanted to go with him and have a real man for a master,” she answered nervously.
A fierce growl ripped from Zhongli’s throat, almost like a suppressed roar. She could see his struggle to stay composed as his fangs grew and scales started to appear on his neck.
“That damn bastard,” he said with another growl, “He has the audacity to try and take my precious mate from me?” She let out a small gasp. His horns were starting to poke through. “How dare he. If I see him again I’ll-”
He was cut off when he felt her hug him tightly. “I don't want anyone else!” she said before looking up at him. “The only master I want is you. My dragon, my Zhongli. So please don’t let anyone else try and take you from me either.” Her eyes on the verge of tears.
He sighed and kissed her forehead. “We’re going home. Now. I still have to teach you a lesson.” She nodded, “Yes Master.”
~*~
Her heart pounds in her chest, loud enough she wouldn’t be surprised if he heard it. Though, he’d had to be listening to that instead of the sounds coming from his hand playing with her cunt. After what had happened earlier, he had taken her home and immediately stripped them both of their clothes, pinning her down onto their bed.
It took him only a few seconds to pounce on her, his hand delving between her thighs to her pussy. It was wet and sticky, slick coating her thighs and his fingers. His narrowed gaze shifts from her pussy as he leans forward, latching onto her throat. His teeth scrape over her pulse, then travel down to the crook of her neck.
A deep scar laid on the soft flesh, marking her as his. His heart, his love, his mate. He eagerly kisses and nibbles around it, the scarred flesh much more sensitive and giving him the reactions he wanted. Her breath tickled his ear, every moan, sigh, and whisper of his name making him shiver.
He runs his other hand up her torso, cupping her breast and flicking his thumb gently over her nipple. She trembled more, waiting for him to snap and take her. She saw how fired up he had been earlier when just mentioning another man, she knows that flame is still burning fiercely in him.
And when he pulls away from her neck to look into her eyes, she can see it flickering in those piercing gems. A small bead of sweat drips down her neck and between her breasts, catching his attention. He doesn’t hesitate to follow it, kissing along the soft curve of her breasts, his tongue curling around her nipples when his mouth latches onto them.
Zhongli hums and pulls his hand away from between her legs, glancing at the mess he caused. She was far from cumming, but he had all night to… remind and teach her exactly what it meant to be his mate. Strong hands suddenly pull her across the bed until her legs dangle off the end, feeling a small burning from where the sheets rubbed.
He kneels between her thighs, nuzzling his cheek along the soft flesh and kissing the inside of her knee as he looks at her soaked pussy, a deep croon building in his chest. She shifts her still trembling legs, only to find them suddenly being grabbed and pinned to strong shoulders as a head of dark hair disappears between them.
She can hear him hum and whisper something, then say much louder in a teasing tone: “Itadakimasu~”
Something firm and hot swipes over her swollen clit, making her jolt with a loud yelp. Another swipe and she lets her head fall back onto the pillows, hands balling up into the sheets. Zhongli peers up at her through his lashes, taking in her reactions and growls when her thighs try to shut. He pushes them apart again, huffing against her cunt.
“Do not. Do that.” He scolds, then dives back in before she could speak, keeping his eyes on her face.
Loud slurps and wet smacks fill the room, blending in with his deep moans of pleasure. Her own suddenly reaches a higher pitch, her hips jumping when she feels his fingers slowly push inside and stroke the inside walls of her pussy. Her hand snaps down to tangle into his hair, tugging and causing more growls and moans to pour from his chest.
“I will never tire of this,” He purrs, pulling back slightly to look at how easily his fingers are sucked into her. “I will never tire of how beautiful you are when I pluck you like a lyre. The sounds you make are as sweet as birds' songs.” He dips down to suck on her clit, feeling her nails dig into his scalp.
“Your scent and taste are far better than the finest wines I’ve ever had. I will never tire of this.” He repeats, making sure that when he slowly stands up he catches her flustered gaze. “I will never tire of you.” He whispers, leaning over her body.
“Master-” She gasps and is cut off by him grabbing her knees, pushing them back against her chest.
She watches with wide eyes as his appearance smoothly changes, dark scales bleeding from his skin, fangs growing over his lips and horns poking through his hair. Zhongli rubs his fingers- no, they feel more like claws now -down her thigh and grabs his cock, lining up with her entrance.
His cock slides in easily, the walls of her cunt squeezing and sucking him in deeper. He bows his head, watching his dick thrust in and out, his breath picking up and sounds similar to growling building more and more. He returns his grip to her knees, leaning on them as his hips slap loudly against hers.
Sweat drips down his brow, his slitted pupil fluctuating as he looks at her face. Her cheeks are blushed a deep red, eyes rolling into the back of her head and mouth parted to let out moans and incoherent babbles.
“Master- Master ple-please, mo-more~” She sobs, nails scraping and digging into the skin of his arms and shoulders.
The small pinpricks of pain are lost in the throes of pleasure, his nerves burning with every thrust. He dips down to her ear, moaning and purring for a moment before managing to speak.
“Mate… you… breed… gonna fill you… so full… mine!…” He shudders, the familiar feeling of swelling at the lower part of his cock growing more and more. The knot kisses the outside of her cunt, dipping in ever so slightly before disappearing.
He grunts, one hand dropping her leg and going to grab her throat. He doesn’t squeeze to choke her, just presses enough to get her attention, growling her name when she only whimpers. Once those pretty eyes are on him, he lets his growing knot finally push in completely, feeling her entire body freeze as it registers the sudden sensation.
“Breathe, little one.” His voice is deeper. More rough than the usual smooth silk.
She finally lets out a sob, his knot pushing and rubbing her sweet spots deliciously. He manages a few more thrusts, until the knot is too swollen to pull out again. Does that stop him? Absolutely not. He humps and grinds like a man gone wild, slamming his mouth to hers to hide the animalistic sounds pouring out of him.
Her tongue flicks over his fangs, making him shudder and grip her tighter. He removes the hand from her throat and delves it between their bodies, finding her clit and- taking care of his claws -rubs it swiftly. A few more well placed thrusts, his teeth nipping her bottom lip, and she convulses around his cock while crying out his name.
The ravenette drops onto his arms over her, continuing to move as he himself cums thick and hot inside her. He presses his forehead against hers, sharing their breaths and staring into each other's eyes as they slowly come down from their high. Both of them are shaking, his darling more so.
Ever so slowly, he lets her leg go and brings his hand up to cup her face, stroking his thumb over her cheek and wiping away the tears of pleasure she let out. His other hand goes to hers, bringing it from his shoulder and to press against his chest- right above his racing heart. He can feel hers through their fingers.
He kisses her hand and then dips his forehead to meet hers while their breath slowly steadies and his knot recedes. Once he can move again he carefully begins to clean her up and wrapping her in one of the blankets before sitting next to her on the bed. His dragon features slowly fading.
He pulled her in close, wrapping his arms around her and planting soft kisses on her temple as she nuzzled into his neck. He smiled at his darling as she relaxed in his arms, letting out a small laugh remembering her pouty face from earlier which caused her to look up at him. He kissed her forehead. She was so unbelievably cute when she got jealous or pouted. Something about her moments of attitude made him love her so much more.
He then looked into her eyes with a warm smile. "My precious darling, don't you know that I will spoil you with whatever your heart desires? Whether it be riches and gifts or," he kisses her hand softly, "my time and affection. Whatever you ask of me is yours."
She blushes and tries to hide her face in his neck but he holds her by the chin,
"Don't forget. Dragons mate for life and you darling are my mate. Understand?"
She nods her head, while gazing into his eyes.
"With words my dear," he says leaning in to graze his fangs on her neck as a small reminder of what they had just done.
"Y-yes sir," she says blushing.
He smiles and pulls her in closer while caressing her cheek. "Good girl. Now let's rest shall we? Rest and get all the cuddles you want from your Dragon."

fragile as dust / 8 - the eleventh
🔖 [first] [prev] [next]
—
ch 8 | the eleventh
The rest of the day you spend running your fingers across the rows and rows of bound leather, taking inventory of all the words and knowledge and stories that were now at your fingertips — scurrying between the library and your room, arms full of books that caught your eye.
Zhongli watched you from his seat in the living room each time you passed, offering comments on various books that you had picked out. He seemed especially amused each time you ran past with a book regaling a legend of the Lord of Geo, though you couldn’t think of a reason why. By the time the sun had set, every surface of your room had been touched by a book or two.
You couldn’t wait to get started, already knew which ones you wanted to read first — there was one that promised the thrilling tale of Rex Lapis’ fight against the Beast of Nian that you were itching to devour. But before anything else, there was something you had to do, something you’d been planning as soon as you’d seen the “The Fine Art of Liyue Cuisine” title on the bookshelves.
Zhongli had been kind — beyond that, really — about your situation, but you hadn’t forgotten that you were meant to be here for his convenience. You had done nothing but cause him trouble so far, and it was your duty to make up for the expenses you’d cost him.
(Though really, and though you would never admit it, you couldn’t deny that on some very faint level, you wanted to hear praise, your name, anything come out in that rich, deep voice of his.)
So the next time Zhongli took his walk at Yujing Terrace, you reluctantly and politely declined his invitation. Minutes after his departure, you snuck out of the door, running as fast as you could towards the northern harbor. The recipe for the pen’cai stew had called for fish, but, as you grabbed handfuls of squid from the nearest unattended stall, you decided that seafood would have to do. Seafood was something that refined nobles like Zhongli ate, after all.
The tentacles felt disgusting in your pocket the entire way home, but it was fine. You could bear it for Zhongli. You couldn’t wait to imagine his surprise and delight.
Still, how odd that of all the ingredients, seafood was the only one you couldn’t find in Zhongli’s well-stocked refrigerator!
When you got home, you breathed a sigh of relief that Zhongli had not come home yet; you didn’t know what you would have said if he had caught you with a pocket full of squid. After changing, you cracked the recipe book open, staring at it. You’d chosen this recipe because its description had stated “ no refinement is needed for this dish ”, but still, some of these terms flew right over your head. What the fuck was a “julienne”?
Zhongli had used the stove several times, mostly to heat up leftovers from the abysmal amount of food he frequently bought, and it hadn’t seemed too hard at all for him. You would learn, just as you always did.
---
By the time Zhongli returned home, smoke was still billowing from the windows.
---
It was all a bit of a haze for you. The oil had started producing bright sparks (in your defense, how were you supposed to make sense of “ Heat Oil Until Hot ”??), and you knew enough about cooking at least to know that that wasn’t good.
You also thought you knew enough about cooking to know that embers had to be put out by water. The resulting bang had sent you rolling to the floor, and when you’d gotten back up, the curtains by the stove were ablaze
When Zhongli found you, you were frozen in fear — you had backup plans for if the food burnt, but this… this went a little past that.
From behind you, you heard a loud whoosh, felt the force of the earth knock into you. The room became enveloped briefly in a golden glow, and as you watched, the fire faded into embers, then smoke. A single glowing, red gem clattered to the ground, before dissipating with a loud hiss.
“H-how?” Was the first word out of your lips.
“When Geo reacts with—“ Zhongli shook his head, cutting his explanation short for the first time you’d heard, “never mind that. Are you alright? Can you move?”
You let him lead you outside, numbly, silently. Finally, out in the fresh morning air, he peered down at you. You searched his face for anger, but found only mild curiosity. “Now,” Zhongli said, sitting on the grass by your side, ”would you like to tell me what happened in there?”
The weight of what you’d done hit you like an angry boar. Treacherous tears gathering behind your eyes, you whispered “I’m so sorry,” barely able to get the apologies out fast enough. “I— I thought I would surprise you with breakfast, but— but the oil and the water...“ You trailed off when he raised his hand to cover his mouth — out of anger? No, there was a smile on his face. A smile!
“My my,” he mused, the smallest of smiles playing on his face. “Truly, you are a child of Liyue. Always trying new things, rushing in headstrong.” Zhongli shook his head wistfully. “It reminds me of myself, many years ago.”
“You?” You asked in disbelief, feeling your eyes widen. You hadn’t once seen him with so much a button out of place on his intricate coat; weren’t convinced he hadn’t come out of the womb drinking pu’er tea and writing poetry. “ You’ve set things on fire before, Mr. Zhongli?”
“More times than I can count,” his smile widened, and you felt like you had learned a secret of the Gods themselves. “But as I learned, so must you: you can always ask for help, Hansi.”
Suddenly, it didn’t feel like he was talking about cooking anymore. As always, his words were so slow, so deliberate that you scoured them for a hidden meaning. If you didn’t know better, you would be deathly sure that he knew of your difficulties with the Vision. And right now, sitting on the grass next to you after you had almost burned down his home, Zhongli had never felt more approachable. Maybe you could tell him, after all.
Starting a fire was one thing , you chided yourself. Lying about possessing the power of one of the Seven Archons is another.
“I will keep that in mind, Mr. Zhongli.” You said, instead, bowing your head a little. “Thank you for… not being mad.”
“It is I who should be thanking you for your thoughtfulness. And what is it that you were trying to cook for me, my dear?”
You almost jumped at that, feeling warm color blossoming within your cheeks. He probably called everyone that — he was so traditional, after all. “Seafood stew, Mr. Zhongli.”
Finally, to your utter confusion, Zhongli’s smile bloomed into a rich laugh. “Then I’m very sorry I missed it,” he chuckled. “Are culinary skills something you would like to learn, Hansi?”
“Yes,” you said, frustration and indignance culminating into determination. There wasn’t one thing you hadn’t been able to learn when you’d put your heart to it — reading, stealing, surviving. Well, except... “Please, teach me.”
“You deserve a far better teacher than I,” Zhongli said, standing up and dusting his coat off, before offering you his hand. “Let’s pay Wanmin Restaurant a visit, shall we?” Then, wrinkling his nose, “though perhaps... After we rid the house of any more fire hazards.”
---
At the counter of Wanmin Restaurant was a man you had never seen before, though his resemblance to Xiangling was striking. He perked up immediately upon seeing you and Zhongli approach.
“Mr. Zhongli!” He waved frantically. “Thank you for the medicine! My knee feels better already.”
“I’m glad, Chef Mao. I’ve heard that Bubu Pharmacy’s herbal cures are nothing short of divine miracles,” Zhongli said. “Though I hear from Xiangling that you’ve been gathering herbs near Jueyun Karst? You must know that it is extremely dangerous for humans to enter.”
“Of course, of course!” Chef Mao laughed good-naturedly. “You don’t have to warn me twice. I make sure to give that place a good berth — I don’t have enough lives to go around meeting any Adepti. Now, what brings you here today? Xiangling or I will cook anything you’re in the mood for.”
Zhongli shook his head gently. “I’ll have to take you up on that offer some other time. Today, I was hoping to ask Xiangling for some culinary tutelage. This young lady here is looking to learn how to cook.”
“Oh!” Chef Mao peered at you, as though he had just noticed you. Of course, it hadn’t helped that you were trying to hide behind Zhongli the whole time. He turned around and yelled into the kitchen, “XIANGLING! COME HERE, MR. ZHONGLI AND HIS—“
A pause, as he glanced between you and Zhongli, trying to ascertain your relationship.
“Friend,” Zhongli supplied. You hated that your heart skipped a beat.
“—FRIEND ARE HERE TO SEE YOU!”
Almost immediately, Xiangling’s head popped out from behind the window, waving and beaming dazzlingly. As Zhongli explained the situation to her, you once again wondered where she was storing her endless cheer. Perhaps in her hairbuns.
“I hope that it is not too much trouble,” Zhongli concluded, crossing his arms over his chest and stepping aside. You wanted to scream at the thought that he knew you’d been trying to hide behind him.
“Nonsense!” Chef Mao slapped his hands together, and you were beginning to see where Xiangling got her enthusiasm from. “If not for you getting Wanmin Restaurant this spot on Chihu Rock, why, Rex Lapis would never have found us and written such flattering poetry about our food. Then where would we be? No favor is too big for you, my friend, let alone something so trivial as this.”
You glanced up at Zhongli, but his expression did not change. Just exactly how much influence did Zhongli have over the city?
Just who was he?
“Would Miss Hansi want to work as my apprentice for a few weeks?” Xiangling asked, thoughtfully. “With the winter coming up soon, we’re going to need a lot of ingredients, so I could use an extra hand. We can’t pay very much, maybe 1,000 Mora a week, but I’ll keep you nice and full, I promise!”
A thousand Mora — that was more than you had ever had at once in your life. You jumped to say yes, but stopped yourself just in time. It wasn’t up to you. For all Zhongli’s benevolence, what nobleman would want a servant (is that what you even were?) that they'd paid for gone all day?
You looked to Zhongli for his answer. And when he only waited patiently, you prompted, “may I accept this offer, Mr. Zhongli?”
“You are free to do as you please, Hansi.” Zhongli said, and the surprise didn’t sting as much as it used to. “I think it would be a great opportunity.”
You had never been more sure of the following “yes!” that you almost shouted at Xiangling.
Chef Mao laughed. “We’ll see how much of that enthusiasm you can keep when Xiangling starts working you to the bone!” He waved at Zhongli. “Xiangling and I will show her around the restaurant. You should get back to your work, Mr. Zhongli — you must be a very busy man.”
Zhongli raised a brow, but did not comment further. “Will you be able to find your way back home, Hansi?”
After getting your affirmation, Zhongli nodded and walked away. You would have watched him leave, if you could, studying every detail on the back of his coat — but Xiangling grabbed your hand.
“Come on!” She was almost vibrating from excitement, and you couldn’t help but match her grin with your own. “There’s SO much I need to show you!”
---
By the time Xiangling released you from your duties for the day (and you had learned more words than you thought existed), the city had grown dark.
It had been so exciting, the prospect of having a real, actual job that you didn’t have much else on your mind. And so your first mistake, you realized too late, was trying to find the same shortcuts that Zhongli had used to get home. The alleyways at night were strangers to you — and there was good reason for it.
You thought it was your imagination at first, but it became more apparent with every crawling second: there was another pair of footsteps that echoed each of your own. You quickened your pace, noticing the echo match yours almost perfectly. As you turned down deeper between the buildings, you forced your foot to stop halfway to the ground.
The echoing footstep clacked against the cobblestone.
There was a flurry of movement behind you, your pursuer realizing that their cover had been blown. The figure lunged at you, and you ducked at the last second— you were used to bigger men throwing their bodies at you, had long since learned how to use their weight against them. With all your strength, you aimed a kick at the man’s groin—
Only for him to catch your ankle with one of his gloved hands, yanking you off your feet, and throwing you against the wall. The impact knocks all the air from your lungs. You scrambled to get back to your feet, coughing. Instinctively, you reached for your chest, where your Vision once was. It wasn’t there. Of course. And even if it was, what good would it be?
“Feisty,” the man remarked, leaning in to peer at you. In the dim moonlight, you could see a strange red mask hanging his cheek, stark against his auburn hair. At his hip, a Vision glowed royal blue, with a frame that you had never seen before. “What on Teyvat has Zhongli gotten himself into?”
---
“Who are you?” You snapped. The man kept his careful distance from you, but you were sure that he would be able to catch you in seconds if you ran. The way he had moved to meet your blow was practiced, skilled, even. It seemed that you had misjudged his intentions — he was not some drunken man seeking pleasure. “Are you from Bawang ?”
“Ba—what?” The man shook his head, clutching his heart in a dramatic show of dismay. “I’m hurt. Didn’t Mr. Zhongli not tell you about me? Not even a passing mention?”
Eyeing him carefully, you racked your brains. Was he a friend of Zhongli’s? Surely no associate of Zhongli would corner you in an alley at night and push you over... Right? You were realizing how little (absolutely nothing, to be exact), you knew about Zhongli’s life.
“Was the ‘who are you?’ not enough of a clue?”
The man grinned wickedly in the night, eyes glinting at your mockery. “What a tongue you have on you. Didn’t know that was Zhongli’s type.” He offered his hand to you. “I’m Tartaglia, codename Childe. Pleased to meet you.”
You stared at his hand like you would a can of live worms. “The one from the Fatui.”
The message received, he let his hand fall back to his side. “So he has talked about me. And here I was, thinking that he saw me as just a puppet.” He mused. You had no clue what he was talking about, but it was immediately clear that the man was dangerous.
“Are you here to collect his debt? I don’t have any money.”
“Debt?” Tartaglia laughed. “No, there’s no debt . Mr. Zhongli has unlimited access to the Northland Bank’s funds. Yeah,” he clarified, mistaking your shock for confusion. “Turns out, you need to read the fine print when it comes to making deals with the guy.”
“Then what do you want from me?”
“Oh, come now,” he raised his palms in a placating manner, “don’t be so harsh. I’m only here to investigate. Zhongli has been buying enough food for a small army, and while it’s not entirely unusual of him, he also made a large payment to a certain company... that let’s just say even the Fatui won’t touch with a six-foot pole.” Tartaglia swept his glance over you from head to toe. “But you already know that, don’t you?”
You stayed silent, wishing to the Archons that looks could kill.
“I don’t know why he… acquired you, but believe me, he’s always got some kind of plan going on in that head of his.” Tartaglia sighed. “Anyway, where’s your Vision?
You stiffened. “Vision?” You scoffed. The false disbelief came easily, naturally. “You think the Archons would give someone so pathetic a Vision?”
“You can cut the crap. I saw the way you reached for it there. I’ve seen that look way too many times. Vision-holders who get too dependent, who think that having one makes them invincible.” Tartaglia’s lip curled. “A Vision wouldn’t have saved you from me, girlie. But someone as weak as you should at least be carrying it around.”
Every moment of the day, you thought of it, of how all your problems would be solved if — when — you mastered the power of the Archons. The thought that it wouldn’t, that knowing how to use a Vision wouldn’t make you invincible to the world, was devastating.
Before you, Tartaglia’s eyes were the color of the ocean during monsoon seasons, deep, roiling, devastating. You couldn’t seem to bring yourself to lie again, so you lowered your head.
“That’s what I thought. What element?”
“Geo,” you said quietly. The only thing you could do here was keep him talking, long enough until you could find a chance to escape. From what you could tell, he didn’t seem to be on too-friendly terms with Zhongli. Perhaps he wouldn’t tell him, after all.
“Of course.” He nodded, as though there was no other answer.
“What do you mean, of course?”
“ What I mean is —“ Tartaglia peered at you, raising a single brow. “Hmm. What does Zhongli think of your Vision?”
You bit your lip to stop from responding. This was dangerous territory. As the seconds dragged on in silence, you watched a glimmer of glee creep into Tartaglia’s eyes. “Oh! Oh my Archon. You haven’t told him!” The Fatui Harbinger threw back his head and laughed with abandon. “Oh, that’s great! This is beautiful!”
You waited a good half minute for Tartaglia to finally wipe all the tears from his cheeks. “Are you done?” You’d been slowly edging towards the exit of the alley, keeping your eyes trained on the Fatui. As long as you could get to Wanmin Restaurant you would be safe... but no. You couldn’t drag Xiangling and Chef Mao into this. You still didn’t understand half the things Tartaglia had said, but you knew that the Fatui’s attention wasn’t something you wanted, no matter who you were.
“Yes, yes,” Tartaglia huffed, fanning himself dramatically.
“What’s so funny?”
“My contract ,” he almost spat the word, “mandates that I stay silent about that one, sorry. But don’t worry, I’ll keep your little secret. I’d love to see the look on your face when... Anyway. I’m here to give you an offer.”
“Next time, try offering over lunch or something,” you didn’t know where you found the courage to snap, “instead of in an alley.”
“Sorry, sorry,” Tartaglia threw his hands up, somewhat apologetically. “It’s been so hard to catch you alone.” Had he been watching you and Zhongli? You grimaced. “But anyway. How would you like… all the Mora you could ever need? Anything you want to buy, eat or wear, yours, just like that.” He snapped his fingers.
“…And what do you want from me?”
“Information,” he replied, “about Zhongli. How to fight him, really, but also anything else he—“
At this point, you were beginning to feel inclined to believe that the man was simply missing half his marbles. Finally feeling like you had put enough distance between him and yourself, you turned and ran — for a whole two seconds, when a strong force yanked you backwards.
“Hey now, hasn’t Mr. Zhongli taught you anything about manners?” He tutted as you flailed in his grip, “I wasn’t done talking— whoa!”
He ducked, barely avoiding a projectile that whizzed past his cheek, so close that you could hear it whistle through the air. You peer at where it landed, firmly embedded into the brick wall.
It was a golden spear that glowed dimly in the light. Its design was immaculate, intricate, beautiful , you thought numbly, as you watched it fade before your eyes.
“Well then,” Tartaglia said tightly, “never mind her manners. It’s not like you to get so worked up, Mr. Zhongli.”
You snapped your head towards the entrance of the alleyway. You’d recognize the silhouette anywhere, but in that moment, with the same spear gripped in his hand and his features edged silver under the moonlight, eyes glowing a ravenous gold, Zhongli looked particularly divine.
“If I were worked up , Childe, I would not have missed,” Zhongli said, twirling the spear once before setting the pole against the cobblestone. The way he moved -- natural, relaxed, as though the polearm seemed like an extension of his body. There was no anger in his voice, but you felt a slight tremor in the ground under your feet and, despite your situation, a jolt of excitement at the thought of seeing Zhongli fight, seeing a Geo Vision in use.
“Oho?” Childe let go of your sleeve, crouching down low as glowing blue energy gathered in his hands. “Sure sounds like you’re asking for a fight. You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this!”
Zhongli regarded him coolly for a moment. “Look around you. Is this really where you want to fight me, Childe?” He raised his head, and you and Tartaglia followed his gaze to a window. Behind the glass, you could make out a young girl’s face as she stared wide-eyed down at the scene below.
To your surprise, the Fatui paused. You hadn’t marked him down as the type to worry about collateral damage. Finally, he shifted back into a more relaxed stance, waving his fingers clean of Hydro. “You know me a little too well, Mr. Zhongli,” he smiled, all hostility seemingly forgotten. You may have misjudged his empathy, but you certainly hadn’t imagined his unhinged nature.
“What business do you have with Hansi?” Zhongli asked.
“That’s our little secret. Well, I’ll leave you two to… whatever it is you do.” He winked. “Remember, you still owe me a dinner sometime, Mr. Zhongli.”
“Certainly,” Zhongli said, lowering his hand and letting his spear disintegrate from between his fingers. “Though I must warn you, it will be the Northland Bank bearing the bill.”
“Of course.” Childe chuckled one more time, as though he remembered something funny. “See you around, Hansi.”
---
On the way home, Zhongli was uncharacteristically quiet. As you entered the warmth of his — of your home, you tried to break the silence. “Thank you for saving me, Mr. Zhongli.”
Zhongli stayed quiet for a short while more, staring at you so intently it stung. “Forgive my silence,” he finally said. “When I couldn’t find you at Wanmin, I thought that you had been hurt or… that you had run away.”
Astonished, you didn’t really know what to say. Running away was a thought that had crossed your mind, but each time, the cons far outweighed the pros. You were more than familiar with what awaited you on the streets of Liyue. “I am not so stupid to be ignorant of what would happen to me if I did” There was a pregnant pause. “And besides, I have had no reason to, Mr. Zhongli. You have been more than kind to me.”
Zhongli smiled. Was it just your imagination, or were his meltingly gorgeous smiles coming more and more often? Trying not to let your thoughts wander, you blurted the first thing that came to mind. “That spear was beautiful.”
“Thank you,” he said. “It has served me well.”
“Do you really know how to use it?” There had been no weaponry in the house that you’d seen, but you believed him wholeheartedly.
“I am somewhat versed in its usage, yes.”
“How long did it take you to learn how to fight?” You wondered, sincerely.
“I have always known how to fight, for as long as I can remember.” Suddenly, his weathered hands made sense. With your notions of him growing up as a sheltered, rich noble shattered, you had never been more curious of his past. Had he been part of the Millelith? “Though, I have since come to learn that it was never true strength. Why do you ask, Hansi?”
You hesitated, nervously glancing away. Way to dig yourself a hole. “Just wondering.”
“Hansi, I gave you my word to keep you safe, to the best of my abilities. However, I fear that there may be times when I may not be by your side, such as tonight.” Zhongli seemed to think deeply about his next words. “Remember that if you want to learn how to fight, you just need to ask.”
Tell him , a voice in your mind screamed. Tell him about the damned Vision.
As tempting as it was, you were indeed more than familiar with what awaited you on the streets of Liyue. You would not risk, even remotely, your position in Zhongli’s household.
“Thank you, Mr. Zhongli,” you mustered the warmest smile you could, as you stood up to retreat to your room. “I will keep that in mind.”
“That’s all I ask,” Zhongli exhaled deeply. “Good night.”
“Good night.”

In The Gardens
for @zeesqueere <3
Bright sunlight fades from Noure’s sensitive eyes as they walk inside the jewelers' well polished shop. Gleaming white marble inlaid in a deep red sandstone lights the interior with reflection off the sun alone, complex archways in the ceiling catching the rays and scattering them, even if it gives everything a slight glare from the shine. A short equally well polished countertop comes up to Noure’s waist to display works of finely wrought beauty; a delicate silver bracelet with obsidian woven between the metallic threads, heavy lapis earrings and their matching necklace of gold, a pendant with several glowing glyphs inscribed around the edges connecting to a central rune. Dwarven make, all of them even with their distinctly Nevarran designs, all of them precious not just for their beauty but for their lyrium infused inscriptions.
This shop in particular had one of the best runeworkers on the surface and was well aware of it judging by her prices. Walking over to the workspace tucked just out of sight in the main hallway Noure rapped thrice in quick succession on the open archway. “I take it my design posed you little problem to have finished it so quickly?”
“With as tightly as you design? No, no, it is an efficient process.” Came the quick reply as a stout dwarven woman didn’t even bother to look up from her work. She hunched over a large magnifying glass with a small red hot pen in her gloved hand, a tester design then with it being inscribed only in a wooden circle. Working quickly she traced the pen along the wood, burning the rune into it and extinguishing the pen with a tap to the rune at its base. “I take it you’re wanting the final make then?” She straightens up off her stool and waves Noure back towards the large main shop, “It’s a fine thing, looks just as pretty as you wanted and just as sharp as you requested.”

She never understood why the Earth was called a ‘blue planet’, until she was watching it recede in the ship’s viewport. She knew the planet well, or so she thought—all war-torn fields and jagged cliffs and sun-scorched red stone. All grief and anger, and being forced to accept they had failed. That day, as she retreated with the best of Homeworld’s forces, she thought would be the last time she ever set eyes on her home.
But sure enough, that miserable old rock is coming into view again. It appears a brilliant blue, ringed with elegant clouds. The sight stirs something within her—but it is not wonder. It’s been thousands of years, and she’s finally coming back to finish what was started so long ago.
“How much longer?” Jasper asks.
“Subtract fifteen minutes from the last time you asked.” Peridot’s response is irritable; she doesn’t look up from her array of screens and controls. “Approaching Earth’s magnetic field; heat shields on standby. Now, to find the structure in Lazuli’s report—you couldn’t be bothered to note the exact coordinates, could you? Why do I have to be stuck with this mission...”
Peridot’s grumbling continues, but Jasper tunes it out, watching their destination grow slowly but steadily closer. And watching her reflection, superimposed over it. If there really are still Gems on Earth, she’ll have to look perfect when she arrives to destroy them.
She feels a chill; a bitter gaze bores into her back. That can only be their captive: a Gem as blue as the oceans, and possibly the only one who could hate Earth more than Jasper does.
Jasper doesn’t turn around, instead finding Lapis Lazuli’s eyes in the faint reflection: a safe distance behind her, glaring daggers where she thinks she’s hidden. Whether her animosity is directed toward the planet or to the Gems who’ve dragged her back to it, Jasper feels it nonetheless.
“You should be glad, Lapis.” Jasper smiles viciously, watching the smaller Gem look away. “I hear Blue Diamond’s the merciful type. Once we’re done with this place, that should prove you can be trusted, and she’ll take you back. And then we can all put this horrible mess behind us.”
The words are no comfort to Lapis, who keeps staring in sullen silence. As if she knows it isn’t true. As if there is only an even bigger mess to be found. The blue planet looms ahead, its oceans dreadful and inviting...
~~~
It’s blue, all-encompassing and suffocating. Where...?
Her gem, for a time without a body, begins to glow—white-hot light spills out, solidifying and taking familiar shape once more. Jasper gasps back to life, or back to awareness: she was fighting in the gallery, and then... oh no. How long has she been out? And where is she now?!
The setting is a strange one, a lighthouse jutting out over a wild sea. It’s nowhere she’d willingly go, and she hasn’t even seen it before. The water is dark and angry, and it doesn’t feel like water. Actually, she thinks, it feels more like... paint.
“Agh... where?! This is... a painting?!”
No, no. Why is she in a painting. Something’s gone horribly wrong here. And why does it have to be—ugh, she splashes into the too-thick water—this kind of landscape? She has to find a way out, presumably the same way she got in here. If only she’d been present when it happened!
“HEY! HEY!! CAN ANYONE—” even now, she can’t bring herself to ask for help. “IS ANYONE OUT THERE?!”
@ascarletflame we can pretend this was all just a bad dream.
It’s me again! I got a shortwave UV light for Christmas, and I finally got to check my rock collection for fluorescence! Some rocks I knew ahead of time would be fluorescent, some rocks completely surprised me, and some looked cooler than I ever possibly could imagine. I wanted to show them off, but man, photography’s hard in the dark! But after much playing around with long exposures (and getting a lot of very blurry photographs), I can finally say this: who wants to see my fluorescent rocks?!
Let’s start with some banded fluorite!
Fluorite’s the OG fluorescent rock. It’s so famous for its fluorescence that that’s why the phenomenon is called fluorescence, from the words fluorspar (another name for fluorite) and -essence (state of being). So fluorescence just means: “being like fluorite!” Right away I knew some of my fluorite was going to fluoresce! The zoning (different layers of colors) in this banded fluorite is doing some surprising things, though.
Look at that! Only a few bands of color are fluorescing: those thin blue-green stripes at the top, and the dark, honey yellow at the bottom. Surprisingly, the place that’s fluorescing brightest is that stripe that looks like a very dull, dark brown under natural light. But look at the bright yellow-white it becomes! Under shortwave UV light, I can even see extra zoning bands that weren’t visible to the naked eye!
Let’s test the rest of my fluorite! You might remember my incredibly cool chunk of fluorite from Rogerley Mine. The fluorite of this mine is famous for its daylight fluorescence, meaning it reacts so strongly to UV light that it’ll change color even in regular sunlight! Here’s what that looks like, by the way.
In sunlight, this piece turns a dark blue. But look what it does under an intense UV light! All the translucent crystals turn suddenly opaque, and the entire rock glows a vivid, saturated purple-blue! This is what I think of when I think fluorescence!
These itty bitty pink crystals are spinel! Naturally occurring spinel fluoresces under longwave UV light, but these little crystals were grown in a lab. Lab grown spinel reacts brightly to shortwave UV light, like the one I’m using. It’s one of the easiest ways to tell them apart. These lab grown spinel glow an amazingly bright hot pink!
Here are some of the pebbles from my Big Bowl of Gravel. Shining my UV light around in there revealed a ton of sodalite, a rock which is blue and white under natural light. But with my UV light shining on them, they fluoresce pink and orange! Sodalite is another mineral famous for its fluorescence, so I suspected I’d find these little guys glowing.
A rock often confused with sodalite is lapis lazuli, but you can easily tell the difference by looking for little flecks of pyrite. Lapis lazuli has them, and sodalite doesn’t! But these two rocks even fluoresce similarly. My piece of lapis lazuli glows with stripes of neon orange, but lapis can glow white or pink too.
Here’s a rock I didn’t expect to glow! Fordite is a manmade gemstone, made from the buildup of layers upon layers of paint on car production lines. It’s a way of recycling human garbage and industrial waste into something beautiful, and it’s one of my favorite manmade rocks. But this piece must contain some layers of fluorescent paint, because check this out!
Just like in my banded fluorite, there are layers of paint here that weren’t visible to the naked eye. Some (but not all) of the black paint is turning a turquoise green, and the yellow is suddenly full of bright strips of light yellow and dark orange. Some of the white glows, too! I probably should have expected this, since manmade paints and plastics fluoresce all the time. Some of my figurines and funko pops have fluorescent paint on them too!
Oh man, this one is amazing! This is septarian, a type of fossilized mud or clay. Growing in the cracks in the mud are dark crystals of aragonite and yellowish crystals of calcite. The dark lines of aragonite in this piece are fluorescing a dull orange, and some of the calcite is glowing a pale greenish yellow, fading to blue at the edges. But did you notice the super cool thing happening here?
Even though it all appears the same color under normal light, some of that calcite isn’t fluorescing. You know what? I think that innermost layer isn’t calcite at all, but barite! Barite in septarian nodules is usually pretty white or clear, but this big barite layer was similar enough to the yellow of the calcite that I didn’t even notice it until I saw it under UV light. Welcome to the family, barite! It’s so cool to find new secrets hiding in my old rocks!
Actually, fossils in general are pretty likely to fluoresce. Here’s my petoskey stone, which fluoresces a pale whitish yellow. The color is so subtle in person that I passed over this stone several times before realizing it was fluorescing, but it’s super obvious once you compare the pictures! I wonder what caused that pattern of non-fluorescent spots? Was it the way the rock formed, or did some of the fluorescent minerals get removed when the rock was polished? Either way, what a neat effect!
And as usual, I’ve saved the best for last…
This is amber.
And this is also amber! The bright blue rock with the best fluorescence of all!
This dark, red-orange rock turns super amazingly bright robin’s egg blue under UV light!! (It can be yellow-green, too.) The reaction is so bright and vivid in almost all specimens of amber that it’s one of the best ways to tell it apart from imposter gemstones like copal or manmade resin. There are even some types of amber that exhibit daylight fluorescence, just like my Rogerley Mine fluorite. Look at those swirls and patterns of light and dark blues! The way it highlights the bubbles trapped inside! How the rock goes from dark and translucent to bright and opaque! Amber is absolutely beautiful.
Those are all my fluorescent rocks! I’ve only tested them with a shortwave UV flashlight, so even more of my rocks may fluoresce with a longwave light or simply a more powerful light with better filters! Some of my other rocks surprised me with cool features like tiny, impossible to photograph flecks of fluorescent inclusions. From now on, I’ll be on the lookout for even more amazing, glow-in-the-dark fluorescent rocks!
(You can see more of my rocks over here!)
Tea and Memories
Zhongli wants Wendy to meet an old friend of his. It turns out to be Madame Ping, who Wendy already knows. The three of them have a lovely chat.
This is not a birthday fic, but I wanted to post it today anyway. 🥰 Chinese glossary at the end.
word count: 2573
content warning: none
"Oh, is that you, Wendy?" Madame Ping waved at the young lady and the man who's arm she was currently holding onto. "And who is this?" She said with a knowing smile, assuming him to be a romantic partner. As she met the man's intense amber gaze, her eyes widened despite herself. He averted his gaze. This feeling...was that...? Could it be...?
"This is Zhongli, my boyfriend..." Wendy's cheeks flushed a bit. She hadn't realized that Zhongli's old friend was an acquaintance of hers. Did this mean that Madame Ping was an Adeptus? She supposed it did.
"I did not realize the two of you were already acquainted." Zhongli gave Wendy a meaningful glance before turning his attention to Madame Ping.
"Yes, Wendy has always taken an interest in my stories." Madame Ping stared back at Zhongli. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Zhongli 先生..."
Zhongli closed his eyes, an amused smile on his face. As he opened them, he spoke. "The traveler told me an old friend of mine had invited me for tea."
Madame Ping couldn't hold back a wide smile. "So it is you." She replied, laughing a little. "I'm glad to see you're well. I had my suspicions, I must admit, but...it is nice to see them confirmed." Her eyes twinkled. "You've got yourself quite the boyfriend there, Wendy."
Wendy's blushed again. "Y-yes," Her grip on Zhongli's arm tightened as she pressed her face against him shyly.
"Forgive my manners, shall we go somewhere more private?" It was her turn to provide an amused smile.
Zhongli nodded. "Yes, that sounds lovely."
Humming to herself, clearly in great spirits, Madame Ping wandered over to her teapot.
"After you," She gestured, watching Wendy with a look that made Wendy furrow her brow in confusion.
"Thank you kindly." Zhongli replied. He nodded at Wendy, before walking her over to the teacup. Wendy's expression was growing progressively more confused. "Hold tight now."
"I-" Wendy was not able to finish her sentence before she and Zhongli were pulled into the teacup. As they reappeared in Madame Ping's Abyssal Domain, Zhongli found she was gripping his arm very tightly with both hands, looking completely startled. "Wh-WHAT?!"
"You did not realize she was an Adepti, did you?" Zhongli observed more than asked. He began walking, gently tugging Wendy along, as calm as if the floating platforms amidst a vast abyss of emptiness was perfectly normal.
"I was starting to figure that out..." Wendy mumbled. "But this is- where are we?"
"Inside her teapot. An Abyssal Domain." Zhongli explained, as Wendy looked around with wide eyes. "I imagine she'll be here joining us shortly."
"Wow," Wendy breathed out, loosening her grip on Zhongli's arm, letting one hand fall back to her side. "It's...beautiful. Is this really the inside of a teapot?!"
Madame Ping laughed from behind them. "It certainly is. I'm sorry I didn't tell you, dear. I couldn't resist seeing how you reacted."
Wendy smiled, even as she blushed a bit. "That's...that's alright."
"And you," Madame Ping marched up to Zhongli, smiling wide again. "You're really here?" She almost seemed like she didn't believe it, despite the joy on her face.
He nodded. "I am. I apologize for deceiving you," Zhongli took in a breath. "But it was necessary. As it remains necessary that not all of the Adepti can be made aware of the truth."
Madame Ping hummed a response. "Apology accepted, Rex Lapis." She paused, considering. "Old habits die hard. Zhongli now, isn't it?" He nodded in response. Wendy watched the exchange curiously. She noticed that Madame Ping had watched for her reaction as well. But the use of the name Rex Lapis hadn't surprised her, of course. Madame Ping seemed pleased by that. "Come now, we can talk more once I get the tea brewing."
So they went, along the platforms and the glowing ribbons that connected them. Madame Ping occasionally turned a knob here or there to reorient the platforms, and once or twice took out a few stray Slimes that had somehow made their way into the Domain. Neither Wendy nor Zhongli needed to raise a finger. Madame Ping pulsed out energy with hardly a physical motion, defeating the enemies with ease. Wendy could feel Zhongli's eyes on her, gauging her reaction with interest.
Finally, they arrived at a circular table with three chairs. Zhongli, gentleman that he was, pulled out a chair for Wendy, before sitting down and scooting his chair closer to hers, taking her hand in his. Madame Ping watched with a small smile, setting the water to boil with a flick of her wrist before sitting down.
"Now then," Madame Ping smirked a little, "how is it to be dating Rex Lapis?" The slip up with names was clearly intentional. Wendy blushed darkly, while Zhongli chuckled quietly.
"Please don't hold back on my account, beloved." Zhongli squeezed her hand, smiling pleasantly despite the obvious teasing.
"I- this-" Wendy hung her head with a sigh. She was being ganged up on by a god and an Adeptus. How was that fair?! "He's a lovely boyfriend, um, he...makes me feel...very safe, and loved...like I truly am...his 心肝..." Despite the blush on her own face at saying those words, Wendy forced them out, hoping to get back at Zhongli just a little bit.
It worked better than expected. She heard Zhongli clear his throat, and looked up to see that his ear tips were a bright shade of red which was swiftly making it's way across his face. But he was also looking at her softly, though he swiftly averted his eyes when she looked up at him.
"Ah..." He murmured, putting his free hand over his mouth.
Madame Ping chuckled. "心肝, hm?" There was that soft, happy smile of hers again as she leaned her head on her hands. "I'm happy to hear it. For the both of you. I'm proud of you, Zhongli. You've changed over these many years."
Zhongli met her gaze. "Thank you. I have learned a great many things about the people of Liyue, and the people of Teyvat, and about myself. I have come to understand the value in things like love more deeply than ever before." Wendy squeezed his hand gently, and he squeezed back.
Madame Ping poured the now hot water into the teapot, the leaves swirling around as water filled the pot. She set the pot down in the middle of the table, arranging three ornate teacups as well.
"What are you planning to do, Zhongli?" Madame Ping asked curiously. "If I am permitted to know." A teasing smile.
"I will remain here in Liyue, working as a consultant for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. Right now, truly all I want is to share my life with Wendy." Zhongli said. There was no shyness, no bashfulness to his words. It was simply a fact. Wendy felt herself melting as she looked at him, the picture of beauty and composure, saying such a thing as if it was obvious and undeniable.
"Guizhong would be proud of you, too." Madame Ping said softly. Zhongli smiled sadly in response, lowering his eyes to the empty teacups.
"I have considered this as well. But for you to say it...thank you."
There was a quiet, and in that quiet, Wendy felt uncomfortable, even as the other two looked melancholy and composed. Guizhong? Who was Guizhong? They clearly meant something to Zhongli. But she didn't dare ask with the solemn looks those two were wearing. For Zhongli not to have mentioned them before...it must have been someone very personally important to him.
"Part of me hopes, that with Wendy's help, I may yet unlock the stone dumbbell. And yet..." Zhongli trailed off. Wendy looked up at him, even more confused, but he refused to meet her gaze. Madame Ping sighed.
"The time will come."
In the silence again, she poured tea for Wendy and Zhongli. Zhongli took the pot from her, pouring a cup for her as well. Wendy put one hand around the cup gingerly, feeling it's warmth, the other growing a bit clammy in Zhongli's grasp as the silence continued. He looked at her for a moment, but she didn't meet his gaze, still puzzling over the conversation.
"In any case, I would be delighted if the future included regular visits with me." Madame Ping said with a smile, breaking the silence with grace. Her face softened. "I was rather worried."
"I apologize again for deceiving you." Zhongli bowed his head slightly.
She waved him off. "I understand. And when the traveler asked me for the bell...I had my suspicions." She wrapped her hands around the cup. "I am relieved to see they were correct." She turned her gaze to Wendy. "How long have you two been together?"
"Oh!" Wendy was briefly startled by the conversation turning to her. "Um, I suppose...a year and a half by now, isn't it?"
"Mm." Zhongli nodded. "A year, 5 months, and 3 days."
Madame Ping chuckled. "That's wonderful. I see that it must be a very serious thing."
"Did you expect anything different?" Zhongli asked, tilting his head.
"Not in the least. And, if I may pry, when was it you learned who he was?" Madame Ping asked.
"Well, see, I took on one of his commissions as an adventurer," Wendy happily began to explain. "And then after that I just started to happen to see him other places too!"
Zhongli's ears burned a bit. It had not been a mere coincidence she'd started seeing him more often. That had been intentional on his part. He could tell by the way Madame Ping was smiling she understood this immediately.
"Ahem." He coughed gently to try and dispel his light blush. "Things went naturally from there, of course. I'm sure we can spare you the details." It wasn't that he was embarrassed, per se. He thought he'd done a reasonable job at expressing his interest and flirting with Wendy. And yet, for some reason, he wanted to keep it private. Madame Ping was one of the few who could tease the great Rex Lapis with a mere look, having known him for so long.
Madame Ping nodded. "I see." Her eyes were sparkling. "What I actually intended to ask was when you found out he was Rex Lapis." That gave Zhongli pause. He had but a moment to wonder if she'd approve.
"Just...a week or so after the Osial attack." Wendy said after a moments thought.
Madame Ping's brows rose.
"You really put her through that without warning her?" She asked, looking at Zhongli with grandmotherly disapproval.
"I," Zhongli paused, closing his eyes and fidgeting with his tie for a moment. He sighed. "I had my reasons. And I will not be doing such a thing again." His eartips were red again.
"It's alright. I already forgave you." Wendy squeezed his hand gently.
"Mm." Zhongli acknowledged her words. "Thank you. I will admit, it did add a certain logistical challenge, and there were times I wished I had already explained it, so I could be more forthright with you. I failed to anticipate that you, with your kind and compassionate heart, would be so eager to support me in my perceived grief."
Wendy looked away. "W-well of course I would..."
"It would seem you've still much to learn about humans, Zhongli." Madame Ping sipped at her tea. That sort of reaction was obvious to her, having lived amongst humans for so long.
"I cannot disagree with that. I suppose I was rather attached to my plan. It had been around for longer than I had known you." Zhongli noted, glancing at Wendy who met his gaze with interest. "I was... unwilling to change it even as circumstances began to change between us. And it was in motion, the contract already set in stone, by the time I realized you might pose a real problem as far as not getting yourself into trouble."
"I just wanted to help-"
"Yes, with no regard for your own safety, I'm well aware." Zhongli replied, shaking his head slightly.
"That's how humans are, you know. I find it an admirable trait." Madame Ping smiled at Wendy, who had begun to pout.
"I'm not sure Zhongli appreciates that yet." Wendy tugged her hand out of his to pick up her tea with both hands, letting out a quiet "hmph!" as if annoyed.
Zhongli watched her for a moment, frowning slightly at the loss of her hand.
"I do appreciate it." He replied, face softening. He reached out a gloved hand to touch her cheek. "It is admirable as stated, and it is part of what makes you, you. But nonetheless, it is also...frightening. To lose you...the mere thought is...painful." He sighed. "I want to protect you from every evil in this world."
Wendy felt like her face was burning. Madame Ping watched with delight, she chuckled, drawing Zhongli's attention.
"I expected no less from you." She sipped her tea again. "I'm sure you two will have a long and happy life together."
Zhongli blinked, lowering his hand and turning to face her again. Wendy bowed her head a bit, catching her breath, still feeling her heart pounding. Tea, yes, tea...
"Thank you."
------------
By the end of their chat Wendy felt warm and happy as they waved goodbye to Madame Ping. She took Zhongli's arm again as they left the terrace, headed for home.
"Did you have fun?" Zhongli asked. "I apologize if we teased you too much-"
"You didn't! It was...nice. It was interesting to talk to someone who knows you so well." Wendy replied with a small smile.
"Oh? What do you mean?" There was a glint in his eye.
"I've never met someone who was actually able to tease you like that."
"Besides you, of course."
"Besides me."
"Hm. Yes, well, I suppose 3700 years will do that. She is one of few who will understand that as much as Liyue has changed...I have changed, too."
Wendy leaned her head against his arm. "I may not understand, but I hope I can be proud of you, too?"
"Mm." He leaned over to press a kiss to the top of her head sweetly. "Nothing would make me happier."
They walked in silence for a bit, enjoying each others company as they headed away from Liyue proper and into the quiet night.
"Zhongli? Can I ask you something?"
"Anything, 心肝."
She still hesitated a moment. "Who...who was Guizhong?"
Zhongli slowed to a stop, Wendy looking up with worry at the surprise on his face.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have pried..." Wendy looked away, feeling guilty.
"No, please," Zhongli turned to her, taking her hands in his. "I want you to be comfortable asking me anything. It's just that..." he looked sad, Wendy thought, bowing his head. "I just need a bit more time. As if hundreds, thousands weren't enough... just a bit more... but I promise, I'll tell you. Just... not yet."
"Okay." Wendy replied simply. She gently pulled her hands out of his, wrapping them around his waist instead, pressing herself to his chest. His body reacted almost on instinct, embracing her and pressing his face to the top of her head, inhaling her scent
"I promise." He mumbled. "I will tell you everything in time."
Heart AU - Speak with your Heart
(This AU belongs to @emositecc I only did the writing. This one is a real long one).
Even in the vast darkness of space, there were lights. Stars that orchestrated their luminosity, acting as beacons of beauty while they gleamed in the endless depths of space, secured in a comfortable blanket of the night while waiting for the inevitable admiration from those who took notice of the shining orbs.
Serenity, wonder and elation filled the air for it was a night for celebration! A night for love and peace. Smoothly and slowly, the ocean washed up and down along the beach's shore, repeatedly tucking the sand in a cloak of comfort. Along the light gold sand of the beach, just in front of Steven's house and the colossal temple of the Crystal Gems, there were countless crowds of people, humans and gems, all talking, laughing and dancing as music bounced up and down along the beach.
Sadie Killer and the Suspects were performing like it was their last night, Lars and his crew were telling stories of their adventures in space, but they weren't the only ones. Bismuth couldn't help but share her heroic tales, even Peridot and Lapis were gripped. Greg and Connie along with most of the residents of Beach City were enjoying the performance. Everyone was getting to know each other, humans and gems, all sharing stories, spreading smiles and having the time of their lives.
On the wooden deck of the cosy house that rested below the ancient, gargantuan statue stood the Crystal Gems, admiring the party from the house.
With a smile that shined bright like the sun, Steven rested his hands on his hips and turned to his three friends, his voice layered in happiness, "See, was I right or was I right? A party after this whole misunderstanding is just what Beach City needed."
"A misunderstanding?" Amethyst hiked a brow. "Ya sure you wanna call it that?"
Whirling her head and glaring at the Quartz, Pearl let distaste ride her voice as she gasped, "Amethyst!"
"What?!" She threw her hands up in retaliation. "All I'm saying is that a "misunderstanding" isn't the best way to put it. After all, we were reset, Steven lost his powers and all life on Earth was nearly destroyed."
"But it wasn't," Garnet added. "In the end, everything worked out just fine, we got our happily ever after and gained a new friend. What's past is past, let's enjoy the present while we can." She smiled, wrapping her arms around her friends and bringing them close and successfully breaking the tension between the two.
Caught in the embrace along with his friends, Steven chuckled but quickly glanced down at the sea of people on the beach, "Speaking of which, where is Spinny? As a matter of fact, I haven't seen Spinsy all day either."
"Relax," Garnet spoke softly, keeping her smile intact while disconnecting her arms from her friends. "They're fine. They've been spending the entire day together getting ready."
"Honestly, I haven't seen Spinsy this ecstatic before," Pearl confessed with a sigh. "I'm happy that they're together again."
"Here, here!" Steven agreed, cheering with the raise of his hand. "Now come on, let's join in!"
Looking back down to the joyous crowd of humans and gems, washed in pure delight as the sound of laughter and cheering filled the air, Steven and his friends all shared a smile and casually made their way down from the house's deck to join in. It was shaping up to be a good night.
...
It was unknown to the Crystal Gems but in the homey beach house where the memories of laughter and joy rested, their pink friend was waiting.
In the spacious, warm and comfortable living room, Spinsy eagerly waited with a child-like smile, repeatedly walking from one end of the room to the other with a bounce in each step as her big magenta shoes tapped and squeaked against the floorboards. She couldn't deny it, she had trouble holding in her anticipation, her excitement. With pure joy waiting to burst at the seams, the pink gem began to hum in delight as she occasionally turned her head to the front door, clasping her gloved hands together.
Elation causing a commotion in her bright eyes, hearing the sound of laughter, cheering and music from the party outside, Spinsy fought the urge to break her endless cycle of walking back and forth, but eventually, she stopped dead in her tracks and zoomed over to the window faster than a speeding bullet. Pressing her hands and face against the glass in awe, keeping her smile pinched upwards, she giggled as she watched her friends, the gems and residents of Beach City bathe themselves in celebration.
"Wowee." She breathed. "I can't wait to join in."
Focused on the fun happening outside, Spinsy became unaware of the gem behind her until she spoke with a shaky voice.
"How do I look?"
As the familiar, but nervous voice infiltrated her hearing, Spinsy whirled herself away from the window with her heart-shaped buns styled on her hair softly waving from side to side. Locating the sound of the gem's voice, her eyes widened in admiration, gasping in delight as she stared at her sister.
Spinny, much like her other half, was pink and her magenta hair was styled into a pair of spiky pigtails. Her top contained two colours that were kept separate from each other, white and dark magenta. She wore puffy shorts and a pair of knee-high pointy boots that matched the same colour as her hair along with puffy pointed hot pink sleeves, pink cartoon-like gloves and white stockings.
In the centre of her chest was a gemstone that resembled one half of an upside-down heart, the other half to Spinsy's own.
Anxious and timid, but finding the strength to lift a small smile, Spinny's widened eyes did well to hide the worriment infecting her pupils. Running down on each side of her face, directly under her eyes were three black lines that resembled her ruined mascara.
Six thousand years ago, it would have been like looking into a mirror, but she had changed, she was different. They both were.
Anxious and timid, but finding the strength to lift a small smile, Spinny's widened eyes did well to hide the worriment infecting her pupils. Running down on each side of her face, directly under her eyes were three black lines that resembled her ruined mascara.
As Spinsy absorbed the sight of Spinny, there was one thing her eyes targetted immediately. At first glance, nothing had changed about her appearance, but it was hard to miss the adorable, big red bow tie that had neatly secured its way around the taller gem's neck.
Bringing her hands up to her face and unlocking a squeal of pure elation, the whole of Spinsy's face brightened like a lightbulb, "Awh! You look adorable!"
Embarrassed, Spinny averted her gazed from her sister as she held onto her own arm, setting free a giggle, "Are... Are you sure this is okay?"
"Of course, that bow tie looks great on you!"
"No, no, not that," Spinny softly dismissed with the shake of her head. "I mean this... Party."
Hiking a brow, gloom sitting in her gaze, Spinsy tilted her head in response, "Don't you wanna go?"
"What? No, I do, I really do, it's just..." The newly reformed gem found her words dying on the tip of her tongue, losing the ability to speak as she raised her hand to scratch the back of her head as if she trying to locate the words she was searching for.
With her lips twitching, Spinny finally forced out her words as she looked back at her other half, "It's only been a week since I arrived here and... nearly destroyed all life on this planet. What if I ruin the fun or what if I scare everyone off? What if someone doesn't want me there?"
"Oh, Spinny," Spinsy cooed. "That's not true. I want you there." She reassured with a friendly smile. "There's nothing to be afraid of, all of that is in the past and believe me when I say that the people out there really, really want you to join the fun! I mean, you gotta admit, this week has been an absolute joyride! Haven't you had fun seeing what this planet has to offer? Haven't you had fun reconnecting?"
The look of uncertainty transformed into an expression of happiness as her lips trembled up into a smile, enraptured in her own joy as she breathed, "Yeah. It has been fun. In fact, it's been the best fun I've had in years."
Just then, Spinsy leaned her head in and smirked, "And wouldn't you like to make some new friends?"
Out of her control, Spinny couldn't help but stretch her smile and chortle, "Yeah."
"Well come on then." The smaller gem gently locked her hands onto Spinny's wrists, spreading her enthusiasm. "This is gonna be a night that you won't forget. Ready for the time of your life?" She asked with a glowing grin.
Spinny couldn't help but smile as she found a new form of comfort flowing through her, it sparked inside her like a lighter after being reunited with her sister. Just as she nodded, the taller gem unexpectedly felt herself being pulled forward by her sister who held her hand lightly and guided her to the front door of the beach house. As the door flung open, both of them felt the beautiful night's breeze wash over their face as if it was an ocean's wave.
The sound of cheering, laughing and music became more clear to the twins as they set foot outside. Spinsy was bouncing with joy, squeeing and finally unlocking her excitement as she saw the sea of heads having fun and as for Spinny, she stood still, in awe as her eyes scanned the crowd of people having the time of their lives. It reminded her of the games she used to play back in the garden.
Like a baseball being battered out of a stadium, Spinny's pupils flung to her right as she stared at her sister and chortled, "You know what, you're right! What is there to worry about? Let's go have some fun!"
"See, I knew you'd love it!"
Quickly, Spinsy hopped down the stairs of the beach house's deck like a slinky, but for some reason, Spinny remained hesitant as she looked back to the delightful crowd of people, shaking away her fears as she took a deep breath in and slowly exhaling it out into the fresh air of the graceful night. After reconnecting with her composure, she wore a mask of determination and began to steadily walk down the stairs right after her sister.
"You can do this," Spinny breathed, proceeding to whispered to herself. "You can do this."
...
Flowing up and down like the waves of the ocean, everyone was having the time of their lives. Dancing, laughing, cheering, playing and singing. Joy and glee radiated from each human and gem the twins passed by. Joining in with the rhythm, Spinsy began to bob her shoulders up and down as she walked with a spring in each step, waving and cheering to the residents of Beach City.
But behind her exuberant and optimistic sister, Spinny failed to share the same cheerful and motivational energy. Slowly taking her steps with caution, moving as if she was on a completely different planet, she raised her wrists to her chest and gripped one of them firmly as if she was trying to keep herself stable.
Nervous, spinning her head from left to right, she stretched a smile that looked rather uncomfortable, taking quick glances at the crowd she was now a part of with concerned eyes as wide as saucers. Despite this, it seemed like no one was paying much attention to her which felt like a slight relief but also a pain that felt too familiar to her.
Nevertheless, Spinny kept herself behind Spinsy, following her as a shy child would with its protective mother. Softly, their feet dipped into the sand and left a trail of footprints that would soon be covered up by the bouncing, lively crowd. From one person to another, everyone's delight connected like a chain, joy spreading like wildfire, but why didn't Spinny share this feeling? She tried to lift her spirits, she desperately wanted to feel involved and joyous with everyone else but this feeling of anxiety kept her shackled to an endless pit of fear and worriment.
Lost in her thoughts of doubt, trapped in trepidation, it became unknown to the gem that Spinsy had stopped in her tracks and somehow, through the healing and funky music that danced in the air, her head bobbed upwards from the barren sand as she heard Steven's voice.
"Hey! There you two are!" He exclaimed, painting a smile on his face. "Nice bowtie, Spinny!"
"Hiya, Steven!" Spinsy greeted brightly, hopping to the hybrid boy.
Failing to share her sister's enthusiasm, Spinny lifted her hand and flicked a wave, "Hey..." She mumbled while forcing a crumpled smile upon her face.
As the twins stood beside each other, Steven raised his hands in excitement, gesturing to the crowd they were in, "How are you two enjoying the party?"
In a voice coated in sweetness, the smaller gem cheered in response, "It's amazing! Just look at how much fun everyone's having!"
"Yeah," Spinny awkwardly agreed with the swoop of her arm, still forcing a smile. "It's... It's something alright!"
"Alright! I'm glad you two are having fun. Oh, and Spinny... Thanks for coming, it means a lot."
"It's no biggie." The gem dismissed in a rather fearful manner, averting her gaze from Steven as she clasped her hands together in hopes to preoccupy her thoughts.
"Hey, you know what you two would love!" Steven exclaimed. "There's a dance contest going on in a couple of minutes, I think both of you should totally enter!"
Upon hearing this, the twins offered two completely different reactions.
The whole of Spinsy's face brightened like a star, grinning from cheek to cheek while her eyes widened in fascination. However, Spinny's face dropped in dismay, looking scared as if she was living a nightmare.
Whirling her head to her sister, the grin on Spinsy's face retreated to a smirk as she spoke, "Whaddya say, Spinny? Wanna join in?"
Pressing her fingers together and shaking, trying to contain her agitation, Spinny began to rapidly nod her head while trembling a laugh out, "Haha! You bet!"
"You heard that, Steven?" The exuberant gem shouted, throwing a thumb to her face as she shined confidence. "You can count us in. Now lead the way!"
As if there were explosions of elation going on inside his brain, Steven's happiness grew as he could feel Spinsy's positivity spreading to him, "You got it! I can't wait to see this, you two are going to be great!"
Swiftly, the hybrid boy twirled himself around and began to casually guide his two friends to their destination.
Following him, Steven and Spinsy both shared the optimism and eagerness in the way they walked. Lightly bobbing their head up and down to the flow of music, yet Spinny remained barren to the feeling of contentment.
All the reasons telling her not to do this came flooding in like she had been caught in a tidal wave. Deep down, Spinny cursed herself for not being able to shake away the clutches of doubt that kept creeping up on her. Keeping her hands clasped together, her fingers sealing around her knuckles, there was a wobble in the way she walked. Why couldn't she escape the confines of her anxiety?
While her mind was swatted with unhealthy thoughts and scary scenarios, the worried gem kept her eyes glued to the sand as her legs shudder. Slowly, her spiky pigtails dropped down as if she was a floppy-eared bunny and soon, she stopped dead in her tracks, gripping her eyes shut in frustration.
Disappointed in herself, Spinny lifted her head calmly and breathed, "Spinsy, I'm sorry, but I can't do this. I just-"
Upon looking up, her eyes bulged out of her head in discomfort and distress, feeling overwhelmed with fear as Spinsy and Steven were no longer in front of her. They were gone, vanished without a trace.
"Spinsy..." She called out with confusion riding her voice.
Finally breaking her hands apart from each other, Spinny began to scan her surroundings, frantically looking from left to right in the crowd that swarmed her. The fears that she had locked deep into her subconscious broke from the chains and began to infect the roots of her mind with terror, dread and panic.
"Spinsy... Steven..." She whimpered, barely hearing her own voice through the music and cheers that bombarded her.
All around the frightened gem, pushing her head back and forth, Spinny turned to the many unfamiliar faces that cramped the area. Their laughter felt like they mocking her, the screaming was taunting her and their smiles ridiculed her. That feeling of fear twisted and sunk her nerves to the point where she could feel herself shaking, shivering and shuddering.
With her lips quivering as if she was a child being separated from her parents, eyes erratically growing wider by the second as her pupils bounced from side to side like a tennis ball, Spinny brought her hands up to her arms and gripped them tightly as if she was trying to hold herself together from falling apart.
Attacked by the loud laughter that bombed her thoughts, the sounds of all humans and gems transformed into white noise, infiltrating the gem's conscious. Unable to think properly, Spinny glanced down to the sand, her lip trembling as she sniffled, tears dwelling in her eyes.
"No... Not again... Not again!"
Quickly, her breathing grew frantic, panic battling her system as she felt alone, abandoned, alienated! Through the white noise that plagued her hearing and mind, she heard a voice, her own voice, but she had no control over it. As the cogs in her mind began to rust, she could feel herself malfunctioning, breaking and cracking from reality.
'They left you!'
"No..." Spinny spat, whirling herself from left to right, trying to shake away the spiteful voice.
'Everyone hates you!'
'Who'd want to be friends with you? You're an emotional wreck! A pathetic mess! An unstable freak!'
"Stop it!"
'If these people even knew you they'd leave you too!'
'You're ruining this for everyone!'
"Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!" Spinny whimpered, baring her teeth in agitation as she pulled down on her pigtails. "I'm doing the best I can!"
'If you were a good friend, maybe Pink would still be around!'
The confidence that had been gifted to her by Spinsy departed, now, Spinny couldn't help but feel lost. Stupid. Gullible. To think she could actually be a part of this future. She was right to think everyone hated her, even she did.
Wearing a haunted look, petrified in the eyes as she stood on the edge of terror, the erratic gem looked down to bow tie she was wearing and didn't waste another second. Furiously, her anxiety pushing her and controlling her movement, she crushed the tie and pulled it from her neck, harshly throwing it to the ground.
Undone and ruined, the bright red bow tie rested in the sand. Discarded.
A fire whirled inside her, causing ablaze, an eruption of uncertainty, horror and grief. For her, it was becoming difficult to breathe as her own voice played on a loop in her head, saying the same awful things again and again to no end! Her stress was demanding for a fight, her stomach twisting and turning like a hurricane!
Holding up her hands to her face, unable to remove the stains of guilt from them, she began to sob, "I can't do this! I can't do this!"
Clenching her teeth together in a panic, fear washing over her face, her gaze was the perfect example of someone who had been terrified. Swiftly swirling her head, looking for an opening to escape, Spinny didn't let another second go by as she ran into the crowd of people, slipping past everyone as she struggled to maintain her composure.
Although no one paid any attention to the distraught gem, only one had seen her running off until she was away from everyone's sight.
"Spinny?" Spinsy arched a brow, emerging from the dancing crowd.
Looking to the spot her sister had left, she knelt down and swooped up the ruined bow tie from the sand. As it rested in her hand, confusion and concern all rushed into her system.
For a moment, worriment crossing her expression, Spinsy remained calm and looked back up to the preoccupied group of people. Unable to locate Spinny at first glance, she broke away from her position and ran into the crowd of people without a second thought, searching for her sister.
...
After searching for quite a while, time began to melt and with no luck, Spinsy failed to find Spinny anywhere. It was almost as if she had disappeared. By the time she had reached the beach house, the tired gem rested her hands against her knees and regained her breath, spinning her head and surveying the area from the deck of the house.
"Oh come on, this shouldn't be hard. She looks exactly like me! Why can't I find her!" She said in between breaths.
Picking up the sound of footsteps rapidly pressing against the wooden planks of the stairs, Spinsy turned around and watched Steven approach her, looking saddened as he sighed.
"I'm sorry, Spinsy. I've looked just about everywhere and asked everyone, and nothing. Not even Garnet has seen her."
This time, it was her turn to sigh. As she slowly pushed the air from her mouth, the worried gem crossed her arms and turned to the ocean, letting her arms float down to the wooden handrails of the deck, leaning on it for support.
Unable to fight off the sadness contaminating her system, Spinsy's eyes helpless wandered up to the lonely moon that dwindled in the night sky.
"Where are you Spinny?"
Motivation sparking inside Steven, he approached the dejected gem and secured an arm around her shoulder, smiling, "Hey, don't worry. I'm sure she's still around. We'll find her."
"I know we'll find her, it's just..." Spinsy breathed, looking to the son of Rose Quartz with a guilty expression. "I can't help but feel like it's my fault for driving her away. She's been alone for so long, I thought a party would do her good, but clearly not."
"First I abandon her and now I probably made her feel scared or uncomfortable. Way to go me, right?" She mumbled with the roll of her eyes.
"You can't think like that, Spinsy," Steven said. "You organised something great here tonight and you wanted your sister to be a part of it. I know it wasn't your intentions to make her feel uncomfortable and it certainly isn't your fault that she ran off in such a hurry."
"But-"
"But nothing." He quickly interjected. "You've been a terrific friend to me, to Pearl, to Garnet, to Amethyst, to- to everyone! We know Spinny's been through a lot, but we promised we'd been there for her. We'll find her and we'll help her."
"You did all of this just to make a new start for her and if that doesn't scream: "Best Sister Ever!" I don't know what will," Steven chuckled.
Joining in on the laughter, Spinsy broke away from the handrail of the deck and smiled back at her friend, "Thanks, Steven. That really means a lot."
"I'm just speaking the truth." The hybrid gem confessed, scratching the back of his head as a sheepish smile grew.
"I just hope she understands that I wasn't trying to scare her," Spinsy softly spoke. "I mean, I just wanted us to have fun like we did back in the-"
When that one thought crashed down on her, the pink gem's eyes widened as the words on her tongue died. Like a computer, it almost appeared as if she had frozen.
"Spinsy, is everything okay?" Steven asked with a hint of concern.
Curling her hand into a fist and patting it against her hand, valiance dancing in her eyes, determination graced her words as she reclaimed her voice, "I know where she is!"
...
Instantaneously, a cylindrical beam of bright light materialized from the warp pad, producing a harmonic tune that would bathe anyone in comfort. But not Spinny, her tormented mind failed to pick up the sound due to the frightening thoughts exploding inside her head.
As the lustrous beam of light quickly faded, Spinsy had appeared on the crystalline platform. It hurt to set foot on this withering rock of a garden. However, much to her relief, sticking out like a sore thumb, she had found her other half.
In all her life, the troubled gem had never thought for a moment that she would wind up back in the same place she been abandoned.
Pink Diamond's garden.
Once a playground that radiated fun and peace now eroded into a decaying, lonely rock. Here, time had no concept, no meaning. Everything seemed so lifeless, colourless and meaningless. All pillars were crumbling, cracks swarmed the ground and the plants were dying. Here, everything was withering away.
This place brought back so many memories to the lonely gem, some of them were joyful while most of them were a nightmare to remember. Among the stars, who would have thought this joyful little playmate waited for her friends so faithfully. It hurt to remember.
In the centre of the garden, in the exact spot where she had waited for six thousand years, Spinny sat and hugged her knees, curling herself into a ball in hopes to contain the feeling of grief and sorrow that tried to claw free from her system. Inside her felt like a furnace, a fire that danced and tormented her soul for being so broken.
Silently, her puddled eyes dripped with tears, spilling down her face as she buried her head into her arms, desperately wanting to hide from the universe. The static in her head made it hard to think, she felt like a distressed child, an unwanted toy, a stranger to everyone and herself. Trembling, her lips sealed shut but failed to contain the whimpering and sniffling she was making.
How did this happen? Even she couldn't answer that. The walls of her confidence that had been provided by Spinsy, Steven, the Crystal Gems along with all the other friends she had built a connection to simply collapsed. She felt weak, exhausted and depressed.
For the first time, Spinny felt like she belonged here. Away from life. Alone.
Curled up into her own world of misery, putting her back to the warp pad, Spinny didn't hear the gentle footsteps coming from behind her. As if a building was being demolished, she could feel her strength deteriorating by the second. It hurt.
"Spinny."
Bringing her back to reality, the troubled gem snapped out of her state of grief as she heard a gentle, but frail voice reach to her. With a sniffle, she lifted her watery gaze and twisted her head in alarm as her eyes met her other half.
Not saying another word, Spinsy stood still like a statue, holding her own wrist and staring at the distressed gem with fear and sorrow clutching her pupils.
For a moment, the air was deathly still as if silence had just shattered along with everyone else in the garden.
Trying to stop her crying, the grieving gem couldn't help but feel ridiculous as she brought her arm to her face, wiping away the tears that lingered as she sniffled, "Oh, hey. I- I-"
Unable to properly grip her voice, Spinny just closed her mouth and gave up. Seeing this as her chance to help, Spinsy calmly approached the upset gem and let herself float to the ground, sitting next to her.
"Are you okay?" Although her voice was soft as a pillow, her expression screamed fright. "I saw you run off. What happened?"
Nothing but silence, unresponsive and still, Spinny simply let the tears drip from her face, refusing to acknowledge any of the questions that crossed her path.
This time, a sickening thought crossed Spinsy's mind as she dropped her mouth to unleash a gasp, but bringing her hand to secure it. Horrified at the thought, she spoke in a frail whisper as if she was trying to share a secret, "No one- no one hurt you, did they?"
"No," Spinny trembled out. "No one hurt me, I just- I just felt a bit sick, you know? That's all."
"Please don't do that."
At a loss, Spinny raised her head again, arching a brow and wearing only confusion on her expression.
"Please don't lie to me," Spinsy told, but still keeping her voice soft and encouraging.
Slowly, the grieving gem pivoted her head and sulked back into her arms, trying everything in her power to fight off the tears brewing in her eyes. Keeping her lips concealed, it looked as if she was trying to mentally stitch them shut. Her sister could tell it was obvious she didn't want to share whatever feelings enthralled her gem.
"I... I know it's hard to talk about these feelings, but you're not alone anymore. You can tell me."
Haltingly, her breathing began to quicken, a sign that panic and fear was gripping her neck and rattling her breath.
"I want to be there for you so please, talk to me." Her sister said assuringly.
As her spiky pigtails flopped down, unlocking a sigh of exhaustion, Spinny looked to the crumbling and dirty fountain with wide, puddled eyes. It took up all of her strength to open her mouth as if a million cogs began to turn inside her.
With her lip trembling, she finally forced out her words with a shaky voice that was tainted in dejection, "It doesn't feel like I left."
This time, it was Spinsy's turn to hike a brow. But despite her confusion, she remained silent and allowed Spinny to share her worries.
"No matter where I go or where I'm at, it always feels like a part of me is still intact with this place. For six thousand years, I never got used to the silence... I never got used to being so lonely, but now, ever since I've tried fitting in, there are these horrible thoughts that I can't control. Voices telling me I'm worthless, that I'm not good enough. Sometimes, it's my voice and that's when it becomes terrifying."
Pausing herself on and off, eyes welling with tears and stammering interfering with her speech. Brick by brick, the gem was falling apart, unable to contain her grief as her lips began to quiver while her breath trembled.
"I can't get it to stop!"
Watching her sister break down into tears pierced her with sympathy and heartache, Spinsy's face lifted with sorrow. Carrying her voice with a gentle tone, she brought up her gloved hands to ease her other half, murmuring, "Hey, hey, Spinny... It's okay. It's okay."
"No, it's not!" Spinny snapped, her glare forming like daggers and frustration taking control over her shouting. "It's anything but okay!"
Alarmed by her erratic change in emotion, dismay rattling her, Spinsy winced from her sister and proceeded to give her space. However, she watched as her heated glare burnt down into a look of regret and shame.
Sniffling, letting the pear-shaped tears slide down her cheeks, Spinny fought back the pain and whimpered, "I tried to kill Steven, I tried to destroy all life on Earth, I wanted to hurt you, to make you share my pain, hoping you'd suffer like I did and now I'm invited to a party where I have to dance and cheer with the people I nearly killed. It feels like everyone's wearing a mask, like they're trying to force a smile around me as if I did nothing wrong. I should just stay here, this is where they'd want me."
"They're not like that, I assure you," Spinsy assured. "The people of Beach City, they... They're special to us. They've learnt a lot from us and we've learnt a lot from them. They're kind and accepting."
"So they're all like Steven?" Spinny responded with a grumble, rolling her eyes. "Do you wanna know why he infuriates me so much? Why I find it so difficult to talk to him?
As much as she tried to hold it in, the pain in her voice seeped through as she stared back at her other half, "Pink... Whenever I'm near him, I can't get over how much I miss her."
Fighting back the grief that caged her, the hurt gem carried on, regaining her breath with a shudder, "But then I get to remember how she avoided me. How she hated me... How she abandoned me... and then I get to feel the resentment for her. All. Over. Again."
"For six thousand years, I didn't move!" She began to weep, clenching her teeth in aggravation. "I didn't do anything because I trusted her! Because I thought she'd actually come back for me!"
"I just wish I could have found out what was wrong with me sooner before she threw me away. What I could have done better. What I could have done to be more like you," Spinny whispered to herself, wrapping her arms around her knees and sinking back down into a pit of depression.
Sadness and shock played around with Spinsy's feelings while her eyes shifted downwards for a moment, becoming glazed with a crystal layer of tears. Hearing out all of her sister's troubles upset her deeply, but this is just what she needed to help. To talk.
"No, no, Spinny, there's nothing wrong with you, there was never anything wrong with you to begin with." She cooed.
"But Pink-"
"Look," Spinsy interjected, gently reaching for her sister's hand.
Confused, feeling the warmth of her other half's touch, she watched as Spinsy's gloves wrapped around her own, lightly holding them. Slowly, she watched as her sister began to ascend from the ground and without realising it, she had joined in on the motion. Now on her feet, Spinny didn't squirm or struggle, she allowed her twin to gently hold her hands.
"Pink may have been our Diamond, but that doesn't mean she knew everything, nor did she know what was best. She was foolish to leave you here and I'm no better for blindly following her," Spinsy said, averting her gaze in shame and guilt.
"I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye, I thought that saying nothing would have made it easier for you, but it was wrong and selfish of me to make that call."
It didn't take long for Spinsy to work up the courage to face her again, it sparked in her like a lighter as she continued, "If it's anything, Pink was the one that needed changing, not you. If she couldn't appreciate you for who were then or who you are now, then that was her problem. Not yours."
"Deep down, I know you're gonna do great in Beach City. There are so many people just waiting to be friends with you, even if they don't know it! You're destined for greatness and best of all, I'm gonna be there, by your side! Catching every bit of the joy you'll be spreading!" The smaller gem told, bubbling with delight as she slowly released her grip from Spinny.
Upon releasing her sister hands' Spinsy stared at her with confidence and glee lifting a smile.
Trembling, Spinny's lips began to curl upwards, although, her eyes gleamed with tears. Nochanataly, she took a step forward and wrapped her arms her other half, bringing her into a hug. Spinsy, of course, was caught by surprise, feeling her sister's face plant into her shoulder, softly crying into her.
Growing a small smile, gently dropping her eyes shut, Spinsy returned the embrace and allowed her voice to retreat to its light, airy tone, "Shh... It's okay," She whispered as if she was a mother trying to ease her child. "No one ever said fitting in would be easy, but you've made a perfect start. With me, with Steven, with the Crystal Gems. We're your family now and we always will be. We're never going to leave you, no matter what."
In tears of delight, working up a smile, Spinny unlocked her arms for her sister and stepped back, responding with a sniffle, "I believe you, you know why?"
"Why?" Spinsy tilted her head with the pair of heart-shaped buns styled on her hair following in sync.
"Because... The moment I started telling you how I feel... It's been quiet... No horrible thoughts, no voices. I feel like... Me again."
"See! Things are startin' to look better already!" She cheered. "I know it wasn't easy, but... Thanks for talking to me."
"Thanks for listening," Spinny responded shyly.
Rubbing the back of her head and constructing a smirk, Spinsy rolled her eyes and spoke in a tune, "You know, I'm sure the party still happening back on Earth. Do you wanna join in? I mean, that's if you want to, of course. We can do something else if you'd like-"
Pinching up her smile, Spinny answered, "I think I'd like to join in on that dance. Whadda ya say?"
For a moment, stunned with joy, the smaller gem nodded her head in excitement, "You betcha!" She grinned, but quickly exclaiming, "Oh! Before we go, I need to give you this."
Unexpectedly, Spinny watched as her sister stretched her arms to her neck, gently fastening something around her. Hiking a brow and adjusting her head upwards, the gem's magenta eyes sprung downwards the moment Spinsy's arms retracted back to her side.
Around her neck, she could make out the big red bow tie she had discarded. Elation taking control of her expression, Spinny lightly pressed her hands against the bow tie and regained her smile.
"Thank you."
...
In the crystal-domed conservatory, the cylindrical beam of bright light raced down from the depths of space, producing its angelic tune as the twins teleported back onto the warp pad. Spinsy and Spinny stood next to each other, side by side as if they were looking into a mirror, sharing a smile as they could hear distant music, laughter, cheering and it all felt different to Spinny. She didn't feel frightened by it, it didn't alarm her or anything of the sort. In fact, she shared the same delight her sister did.
"Hey!" A voice called from the entrance of the conservatory.
Whipping their heads to the door, the twins watched as Steven raced towards them, "There you two are! Is everything okay?"
"Everything's fine now, Steven," Spinsy eased with the swipe of her hand.
Pushing out a sigh of relief, the hybrid gem rubbed his arm and spoke, "Great! Uh, hey... Spinny. Look, sorry if I pressured you into coming here tonight, I just thought-"
"Ah, you've got nothing to apologise for, Universe," Spinny interjected with the sway of her hand. "Let's just have fun tonight, like friends."
Blinking in response, Steven found himself in awe, he couldn't recall a moment where Spinsy's twin had spoken to him with such ease and confidence. Nevertheless, he chuckled, "Yeah, sounds great. You know, that dance contest is still going on, you two still up for it?"
As Spinsy whirled her head to her sister, she waited for her to answer.
No longer frightened, feeling nothing but serenity fill her system, she spoke softly and answered, "I think I'd like that."
so i thought of a short AU writing thingy
Steven’s mind was foggy, how long had it been? 3 days,,2 weeks? He didn’t know. As he stared at the fire he had prepared, he realized that his glowing hue didn’t bother him much anymore, he had been glowing almost continuously since he reached Jasper’s hideout.
Speaking of Jasper, he heard a gruff voice call from behind him. “You won’t believe how hard it is to find good rocks around here.”
Forcing back a chuckle, Steven offered. “I can go find some if you’d prefer, we might be able to get more that way,” he enjoyed listening to the gem’s rantings about small things like grass, and good rocks. “I can tell you like sturdy, circular rocks to use to train with.”
“How about I throw one at your face,” she huffed a response, resting one of her elbows on a stone as she pointed at him. “Remember, you’re here to ‘train’ *not* pity me.”
“Okay sorry!” This caused a light chuckle from Steven, turning back towards the fire, he asked innocently. “So, what’s the plan for tomorrow.”
Jasper was about to reply when a circular light appeared suddenly in the clearing, causing Steven to duck inside his lean-to. /Oh no,,,please don’t let it be Lion.../
It was Lion.
“Jasper!” A girl’s voice called. “Hey, Jasper, can I ask you a question?”
“You just did,” Steven could tell from the tone of Jasper’s voice that she didn’t want to speak to the girl, who Steven knew was Connie. She was the only other person who Lion allowed to ride him without Steven.
“Please, Jasper,” Connie’s voice was strained with emotion. “Steven has been missing for months,,everyone’s devastated! We just,,we want you to let us know if you see him. Can you do that?”
Steven held his breath, he never told Jasper that he never told anyone where he was going! Jasper seemed to remember this too, as she walked over to the lean-to and kicked it. “You didn’t tell anybody?!”
/Is she..worried about them?/ Steven thought, before bunching his knees to his chin, looking up at Jasper. “It wasn’t that important Jasper..”
“it *was* important though!” She shouted at him, extending her arms for dramatic effect. “If you would have told them, then we wouldn’t have Earthlings at *my* base! I. don’t. want. company.”
“Jasper I-I’m sorry!” Steven’s glow brightened a significant amount as he stood up, he caught a glimpse of Connie, who looked horrified and angry at the same time. “If you want,,we could-”
“Steven,” Jasper warned. “If you think you’re staying any longer, you’re wrong.”
“Let me finish!” He growled, dust shaking out around him, the power he had gained over the past few months had been impressive. “I was going to ask if we could have our rematch, like originally planned. So that your time doesn’t turn out to have been wasted.”
Jasper thought for a moment, before backing up, pushing Lion’s shoulder. “Move Earthlings!”
“Hey!” Connie’s voice wavered, she was very clearly texting someone, her hands were shaking as her thumbs rose and fell onto the glowing surface of her phone.
Rolling his eyes, Steven taunted Jasper, remembering their first match since Era 3 began. “I’ll let you take the first punch.”
Smirking, Jasper charged forward, digging her fist into Steven’s shoulder harshly, sending the hybrid boy skidding on his feet a few inches. Clenching his fist, Steven didn’t even consider bubbling up his fists to protect his knuckles. Raising his fist, he went right for Jasper’s gut, pushing her backwards before launching himself into the air.
The fight droned on, one matching the strength of the other multiple times, Steven had forgotten that Connie was still around, or maybe,,she left? Shaking his head, he realized he couldn’t get distracted for a single moment longer. The battle had taken flight, one of Steven’s powers was the ability to manipulate the speed of his dissent, but through the training, he learned how to use the powers to project flight capabilities. While in the air, Steven had the high-ground, punching Jasper’s forearms repeatedly, he paused, flipping in the air and kicking her in the head, full force.
He watched as she plummeted down to the clearing, poofing on impact. Falling to stand beside her, he laughed. “Who’s weak now Jasper! ... Okay, let’s get you out of the dirt, you can rest in your cave, and as promised,,,I’ll-”
As he was speaking, he was clearing the debris from the area to reach Jasper’s gem,,but there was more than one. Jasper only had one gem! How many gems did she beat! Picking them up, he noticed the fractures on all of them, that they were all the same hue, that they were all Jasper’s.
Closing his hands around the shards and looking up, he tried to see if anyone was around. There, he saw Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Connie and Lion standing there. He could see Amethyst’s mouth about to open, most likely to make a snide remark about how he should have left Jasper alone, but he didn’t want to hear it now. Taking a few paces back, tears edging his eyes, he took off running, trying to get to the bathroom, the Beach House.
He ran for a good minute or so, not wanting to speed up, he wanted to feel horrible, shattering was a horrible thing! Noticing the circle of light appear beside him, he tried to push his legs further, to go faster.
“Steven!” Connie shouted. “Stop, running!”
He didn’t. He didn’t even look at her. “Is anyone else with you?”
Breathing a few times, hesitating, Connie admitted. “No, they’re on they’re frantic, and still at Jasper’s base...Steven, what happened?!”
Steven planted his heels into the dirt, skidding to a halt and falling backwards, pressing his closed hands close against his chest, not wanting to lose a single speck. Eventually, Lion stopped too, and Connie hopped off, sitting next to the hybrid boy and leaning on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.
“I..” Steven tried to find the words, falling silent for several seconds, repeating the single letter, and falling silent again. Suddenly, he felt a hot burning in his chest, as if his heart was squeezing. Tears rushed to his eyes, nearly blinding him for a few seconds as he wailed. “Oh Connie! I just wanted to get my powers under control! I thought Jasper could help!”
“Yea, I guessed that much,” Connie sighed dully, placing a hand on top of Steven’s, making his stomach tighten. “Why did you run off?”
“I didn’t want you guys to see her?”
“We already saw Jasper! We heard what you said about putting her in her cave! Why didn’t you-” Connie couldn’t even finish her sentence before Steven opened his hands, feeling Connie’s fall into his palms, over the shards.
He didn’t need to say anything, she knew what was below her hands. Carefully, Steven flipped the three hands over, effectively transferring all the shards to Connie’s, and shutting her fingers gently over the gem. “Connie,,take the shards to the bathroom in the Beach House...there’s bottles of diamond essence in the cabinet, there should be some of my essence on the gem already..try to get her pieces all together, run the bath,” he paused, thinking. “And dump the bottles in, all of the essence.”
“Steven no..”
“Steven yes,” he replied, raising his hand to cut her off. “You have Lion, you can warp there, you can make sure the Crystal Gems can’t see the shards,,it would probably destroy them,” his heart was pounding, he could feel his gem in his mind, trying to find a way to get him to safety.
“What about you?” Connie sounded concerned for her dear, dear friend.
Steven took a few steps back, shouting as tears poured down his cheeks, dripping onto his chest. “I’m a monster Connie! A fraud! I, just, killed someone Connie! I can’t do this anymore..”
“Wait!” Connie jumped to a less-than-savory conclusion and tears formed around her bottom eyelids. “Steven you can’t-”
“I’m not,” Steven cut her off, realizing what his words may have alluded to. “I’m just going to hide in the forest, like all the other monsters.”
With that, he magic sped away, leaving Connie there.
~ ~ ~
It had taken about half an hour for the Gems to return home, but when they did, they heard muffled sobs coming from the bathroom. Pearl rushed to the door and opened it just a crack. “Steven?”
“N-no,” a weak voice responded, Connie’s hands and forearms submerged in the liquid.
“Why are you here Connie? What are you doing?” Pearl’s voice became gentle, yet concerned as she opened the door fully and stepped inside, walking over to the young swordfighter and settling down. Garnet and Amethyst following shortly after.
Connie rubbed her cheek against her shoulder. “I..I’m d-doing what Steven told me to..to do, but,” her throat tightened as she choked. “It’s not working!”
“What’s not working?” Pearl rested a delicate hand on Connie’s shoulder, looking into the tub and seeing the four diamond colors swirling in the tub, alongside their bottles, resting at the bottom.
Sniffling, Connie warned. “B-brace yourselves,,” as she slowly removed her hands from the tub, her wrists down to her fingertips were wrinkled like a raisin. Breathing slowly, she closed her eyes and gently opened her eyes, feeling the shards fall out into her hands. Hearing the horrified gasps of Steven’s family around her.
“Who did-” Amethyst began.
“Steven,” Connie finished, setting the shards gently on a bath towel she had prepared beside her, rubbing her eyes as she reached over to capture Pearl in a tight embrace. “That’s..that’s why he started running-!”
Pearl’s arms tightened around her as Garnet asked urgently. “Where is Steven now?”
“H-he said he was going to the forest..” Connie remembered his words like a nightmare. “He said he was going to the forest to be with..the other monsters.”
Nobody had anything they could say. But they didn’t need to, it only took a few seconds before Bismuth, Lapis and Peridot came warping in, shouting. “All hands on deck! We have a new threat!”
Fearful for the citizens and the students, the four of them hurried out of the bathroom, eyes red and puffy from tears. Peridot gave them a shocked look before stating in her frantic tone. “We..we heard roaring, and a,,a corrupted monster came barreling out of the forest! Bigger than any of the others we’ve faced!”
The Crystal Gems, and Connie, all exchanged looks, each having a solid idea of who the corrupted beast was.
The Big Bast-Mut Info Post
This is a cross-reference straight from my website at BastMut.org. Please go there for up-to-date information and bibliography references.
---------------------------------------------
Bast-Mut is a syncretization of goddesses Bast and Mut, creating Bast in her role as Queen.
Labeled in reliefs as Mut-Bast, she was found in Luxor (Thebes/Karnak/Waset) in in the Karnak Temple, Amun Temple, Medinet Habu, and at Isheru lake, where Mut was prominent. In those depictions, she appears both as a lioness-headed woman with the solar disk, and as a humanoid woman. We know that this is her based upon the hieroglyphic inscriptions included with the imagery.
Bast-Mut and Mut-Bast are both the same deity, however, in the Kemetic Orthodoxy Rite of Parent Divination, the Name that comes first is the god that the one divined will best understand. For the sake of continuity, and because she is my divined Mother, I will be calling her as Bast-Mut throughout the page.
---------------------------------------------
Syncretization?
Bast-Mut is still Bast, but she is also Mut. As an example, let us say that Bast is the color Red and Mut is the color Blue. Syncretized, they form the color Purple. This creates a whole new color that you cannot separate. In this fashion, she gets equal parts of both goddesses and forms it into one. Spend some time researching both goddesses, and you'll get an idea of how Bast-Mut can be.
We can see the goddess Bast-Mut as "Mut-who-is-Bast", which gives us a more queenly and regal Bast upon Her throne. The deity who is named first will be the exterior "shell" or the "primary," which are both in quotes because it's hard to describe and that is not really what is happening here, but it's the best way my brain wraps around them. When in the form of Mut-Bast, this is Bast who is in the form of Mut (which could explain her humanoid appearances in the temples, but that is just another personal theory!)
In essence, they are the same goddess, but there may be differences in how Mut-Bast acts versus Bast-Mut. As we do not yet have any divined children of the former, I have no point of reference as to which to compare.
---------------------------------------------
When to call upon the Queen
When you need some fierce motherly love.
When you want some direction, and you're in need of a gentle push to get there.
When you are in need of self-care and need a stern but loving Mother to make you do so.
When you're stuck in the past or worrying about the future, and you need a reminder to live in the moment.
When you need some gentle self-care and some help in finding joy.
When you're taking on a leadership role and need help asserting yourself.
For a boost of confidence to feel your best self.
---------------------------------------------
Working with Bast-Mut
These are my personal experiences with her, and they may differ from yours or from that of others. However, this is a good guideline to start with if you are new or haven't met her yet.
When you first decide to introduce yourself to the Queen, it's important to be formal and respectful. Only in spending more time and experiences with her are you allowed to loosen formalities a little. She is warm and loving, like the sun beaming down in a caress. A nice offering goes over well, as well as honest intentions and being present and respectful in her presence. She is Bast, a lover of joy, rich things, and perfumes, but she is Queen and more directing rather than acting. There is a regal air about her, and she tends to be more on the formal side of things. Share your meals with her, speak your mind, and be open and honest.
In my experiences with my Mother, Bast-Mut, she is very much Mut in personality, but with Bast-flavoring and exterior. I see her as the Royal Cat, large and in-charge, but joyful and kind. She doesn't roll around like a playful kitten, but instead stands tall and looks into your eyes with the gentlest of smiles. She shifts between a domestic cat and a black lioness, which I feel brings in a lot of the Mut influence as she too can be a lioness. I've "seen" her both as a stern queen, but I've also "seen" her in a field of flowers, dancing with sistra in hand, full of light and laughter and joy.
Bast-Mut is like the sun. The warmth and glow of her love shine down and embrace you, never burning. For she is the sun gently kissing the horizon, the one you can glimpse out of the corner of your eyes, still hot and bright, but tender. Regal is her splendor that dusts the clouds in the royal hues of purple and gold. The sky glows for her.
Bast-Mut (Mut-Bast) in the Books
"As on the east jamb of the doorway, one expects Mut with a syncretistic name for the lioness-headed goddess. If she is not simply labeled as Mw .t nb .t p .t, she could be Mut-Bastet (as on the east jamb) or Mut-Sekhmet; there is not enough space for Mut-Weret-Hekau. One notes that in the dedicatory text on the east wall in the bark shrine of Mut in the triple shrine of the Ramesside Court, Ramesses II refers to having made the monument for his mother Mut-Bastet (KRI 2, 615/16-616-1). The prominence accorded to Mut as Bastet on the east wall of the triple shrine mirrors the importance of the lioness-headed goddess in the first register scenes on the east and west jambs of the north portal of the Colonnade Hall. One may also note that the word ms survives in the words spoken by Mut-Bastet on the east wall of the Mut shrine (KRI 2, 616/6), recalling the texts accompanying the lioness goddess on pl. 149." - Oriental Institute Publications (OIP) Vol 116
"Words spoken by Mut, lady of heaven, Bastet who resides in Asheru: "O my beloved son, lord of the two lands, Djeserkheperure-Setepenre, I am your mother. I am giving you your suck, that you may suck from my milk, may it enter into you in life and dominion..joy...I have given to you millions of jubilee like Re."" - Oriental Institute Publications (OIP) Vol 116
"Mut the Great, Lady of Isheru, Bast, Mistress of Karnak, possessor of graciousness, sweet of love: I have given you the throne of Geb and the lifespan of Re in heaven." - Oriental Institute Publications (OIP) Vol 107
"Mut, lady of heaven, Bastet residing in Karnak, as she gives all life: I have given to you all life and dominion, all health and all joy like Re." - Oriental Institute Publications (OIP) Vol 1 Part 3
