本文最初发表于NDTV.com

ISL: Mumbai City Pick Up Vital Injury-Time Win Over Jamshedpur FC
Mumbai City FC gave their hunt for an Indian Super League (ISL) play-off spot a massive boost after a dramatic 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai on Thursday. Noe Acosta's (7') early penalty handed Jamshedpur the lead, but Mumbai City pegged them back, courtesy a header from Amine Chermiti (60') before a late injury-time strike from Bidyananda Singh (90+2') handed Mumbai the win. The Islanders are now five points clear of fifth-placed Chennaiyin FC with 26 points from 16 games while Jamshedpur are now seventh on the table and have seen their chances of reaching the play-offs end.The game sprung to life minutes after kick-off. Sergio Castel headed an Aitor Monroy free-kick straight at Amrinder Singh before Sourav Das made a clumsy challenge that brought down Farukh Choudhary inside the box. Jamshedpur broke the deadlock in the fifth minute as Noe Acosta sent Amrinder the wrong way from the resultant penalty.Mumbai tried to mount an immediate response. Diego Carlos played a cross-field diagonal for Raynier Fernandes whose powerful low strike from the right forced a good save off Subrata Paul.Close to the half an hour mark, Carlos, Amine Chermiti and Raynier combined well in and around the box to set up Mohammad Larbi with a good chance to shoot but the latter's hurried strike flew over the bar.Minutes later, Monroy launched a counter-attack and found Castel's dangerous run into the box. The on-loan Atletico Madrid striker outfoxed Pratik Chaudhari inside the box but his shot was blocked by Mato Grgic.Mumbai bossed the midfield after the restart but struggled to carve out clear-cut chances against an organised Jamshedpur defence. Subhasish Bose unleashed a fierce left-footed shot from the edge of the box to test Paul but the experienced goalkeeper was up to the task. The pressure soon paid off as the hosts equalised at the hour mark. Chermiti escaped Narender Gahlot's attention inside the box and headed into the net from a well-taken corner kick by Carlos.Carlos threatened from the right again as the Islanders pushed for a second goal. Serge Kevyn failed to connect the Brazilian's low cross into the box in front of an empty net.Amrinder Singh, who did not have much to do for most of the second half, pulled off a brilliant reflex save in the 84th minute to keep the scoreline intact. Acosta's curling cross was headed towards goal by Castel but Amrinder denied the striker from close range. That save would prove to be crucial as substitute Bidyananda Singh came up with the match-winner for Mumbai in injury time. Pratik headed a hopeful cross into the box into the path of Bidyananda who hit a brilliant strike from the edge of the box that beat Paul and went in. Read the full article

Mumbai City in must-win situation
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/mumbai-city-in-must-win-situation/
Mumbai City in must-win situation
The one match in hand for Chennaiyin FC, before its ISL season six campaign comes to a close, may calm nerves in the visitor’s dugout and improve its performance against Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena here on Friday night. The home side, meanwhile, faces a win-at-all-costs situation in its concluding league game.
Victory for fourth-placed MCFC, coached by Jorge Costa, will keep it in the reckoning for the league play-offs. Chennaiyin, in fifth place heading into its penultimate tie, won’t mind a draw in a tough away match. The visitor travels to Guwahati next to face NorthEastUnited FC and a win there will be enough to seal a berth in the play-offs.
Multiple options
MCFC is at full strength for this crucial game, giving Costa multiple options. The blues attack has forwards Modou Sougou of Senegal and Amine Chermiti of Tunisia as focal points. Diego Carlos, Mohammed Larbi, Bidyananda Singh, and Rowlin Borges also possess goal-scoring skills.
CFC will have to work over-time to keep MCFC’s marauders in check. If the visitor’s defensive formation under coach Owen Coyle can handle the heat, the contest to control the ball will be engrossing in midfield, where CFC looks better equipped.
Potent threat
Lithuanian forward Nerijus Valskis — 13 goals, four assists and 41 shots on goal in 16 leagues appearances in his debut season for CFC — remains a threat to any opponent, especially MCFC whose backline has a tendency to switch off. With captain Amrinder Singh in goal, the blues have let in the most goals among the first four squads — 28 against 25 scored.
Replying to a query about no players ruled out due to card suspensions, Costa observed: “We still have some injuries, it will go on till the end of the season. It feels good to have more options for the last game of the season, the most important match for us. This is one game we want to win, we need to win.”
CFC coach Coyle, said: “in terms of fighting for our lives, we have been doing that for three months, since I came to the club. Everybody thought we had no chance, we have been under pressure to win the last 10 games.” The visitor won the five of its last six games, drew one and is on a hot streak.

First-half goal-fest as Mumbai hold NorthEast - football
A first half goal-fest saw NorthEast United FC and Mumbai City FC share the spoils in a 2-2 draw in an Indian Super League clash Guwahati on Wednesday.Panagiotis Triadis (9th minute) opened the scoring for the home side before Mumbai City fought back with two goals from Amine Chermiti (23rd and 32nd).Asamoah Gyan (42nd) then restored parity for the Highlanders before the break as both teams settled for a point.NorthEast United started the game on a positive note and got off the mark as early as the ninth minute. Sauvik Chakrabarti failed to clear the ball from a Rakesh Pradhan throw-in and gifted the ball to Triadis, who unleashed a stunning strike from the edge of the box which left Amrinder Singh with no chance.Mumbai upped the ante and started creating a few chances after going behind. The increased tempo paid off in the 23rd minute. Mohammed Larbi released Modou Sougou down the right flank and the striker’s accurate cross into the box from the right was tapped into the net from six yards out by Amine Chermiti. The visitors soon scored another, taking advantage of lacklustre defending. Paulo Machado’s free-kick from the deep fell to Nim Dorjee who struggled to clear the ball, thereby allowing Chermiti to pull off a scissor-kick and send the ball into the net.The contest remained action-packed when Gyan equalised for NorthEast United just before the break. From a quick counter, Martin Chaves played Gyan through and the Ghanaian, after using clever feet to beat two defenders, slotted past Amrinder to make it 2-2.Mumbai continued their aggressive approach after the break and could have gone ahead again, if not for a crucial touch by Mislav Komorski after the hour mark. Larbi dribbled forward and found Diego Carlos free in the centre with a cut-back. The Brazilian forward lashed at the ball, but his strike fizzed past the post following a deflection.Mumbai looked more likely to score as the half wore on but lacked an end product. At the other end, Gyan’s firm shot from a quick break was well saved by the Mumbai goalkeeper, keeping the scoreline intact.Amrinder Singh nearly cost his team a goal when he fumbled with the ball while trying to collect a straightforward free-kick from the deep, but the hosts failed to punish the goalkeeper for his mistake and sent the loose ball over the bar.Minutes later, Triadis received the ball inside the box on the left and crossed towards the other side of the goal where substitute Maximiliano Barriero failed to connect a close-range header with just the goalkeeper to beat.
