Diluc stares in wonder from a distance.

He swears he could see his father chasing both him and Kaeya across the very same fields. He could hear their giggles- like a symphony, being scattered by the same winds. His father scoops down and reaches for the red and blue blurs. He manages to capture the both of them, eliciting loud laughter and protests.

Then Diluc blinks.

The illusion falls. It was Kaeya, not their father, who managed to capture the giggling little girl instead of two young boys, spinning her around as he hugged her tightly.

Diluc may have his father's hair.

His father's nose.

His father's mind.

He still isn't like his father at all. In his opinion, his similarities with the man are all superficial.

Diluc feels an ache in his chest as he continues to observe the duo dance together, as if they were in their own little world.

Diluc turns around and walks back home alone with one thought in mind.

Kaeya is like their father in the ways that mattered the most.

Ok I can't keep it in my drafts this time. enlighten me if you want; why do people think Diluc is like, a good guy?

Let me be clear, I love Diluc, but I also think he's kind of a shithead. I don't think his actions towards Kaeya can ever be construed as reasonable, his decision to seek vengeance alone irresponsible (even if Kaeya encouraged him), and his vigilantism a product of his paternalistic belief that only he knows what's good for Mondstadt (untrue).

Diluc in the present is the man trying to come back from the bad person he has been. But his solution is to force himself to do a job he never thought he'd have and challenge random Fatui factions to a fight so he can torture them in his basement. I think he has the capacity for good in him, and is trying to change, but I don't see why people think that his actions were all totally a good idea and when we say he's "an uncrowned king of Mond" that's not like, frightening.

The Genshin Impact fandom is fascinating to me when it comes to fanfics, because I feel like I struggle to find any fics that really *get* the characterization of certain characters and I'm loathed to write my own because dammit I just want to read the specific itch I crave without resorting to creating it. Give me three more months and I'll cave in.

For example, Diluc is one of my favorites and I find his backstory fascinating in terms of his father Crepus possibly being more morally ambiguous than most fans are willing to admit and how little we know of Diluc's murder spree in Snezhnaya.

For example which Harbinger(s) did he have a run-in with? Will we find out more about the secret intelligence network that took him in, that he apparently had a high position in? Did he ever find the answers he was searching for? The list goes on.

It's hard for me to find the specific characterization of him I crave for in fics because I think his platonic relationship with Kaeya is incredibly nuanced and complex but I feel like his character often gets assassinated for Kaeya angst but like, the man had the worst birthday ever?

Imagine being Diluc, living through a literal worst nightmare. Your dad is dead after you failed to protect him yourself. Not only is your dad dead but he died after wielding a delusion--you dont even know what a delusion is but its clearly bad news. Why the fuck did your father have it and how?

On top of this, the Favonius Knights--the organization you proudly served and the very organization that your father heavily encouraged you to serve--insists on covering up the truth because it makes them look bad. The Favonius Knights, who are supposed to be honorable and uphold integrity, are anything but that.

Then your adoptive brother, who you've known for years and trust with your life, shows up and tells you he's been spying for a foreign nation since you were kids with the intent of harming Mondstadt and everything about your relationship is possibly all one big lie and well--how do you not snap??

Now, I'm also incredibly fond of Kaeya and he was just as traumatized by Crepus's death. He was wracked with guilt for *feeling* relieved that he didn't have to worry about betraying his birth father for his adoptive father since Crepus was dead. He anticipated Diluc's anger and felt like their duel was a punishment for his lies.

To me, it hints that Kaeya probably didn't reveal the truth expecting Diluc's understanding, but rather he knew how he would react and perhaps he wanted Diluc to strike him down in that duel. Or at the very least, he wanted to distance himself from Diluc and cut off ties in order to avoid emotional attachment stopping him from his mission.

I personally head-canon that Diluc withdrew upon seeing Kaeya's vision because well--why would the gods bless Kaeya with a vision if he truly had the intent to harm Mondstadt? So in spite of what Kaeya revealed, he isn't a threat. But there's still a lot of hurt there to navigate through.

I think it's fascinating seeing where they stand in present game because Kaeya obviously has the ideology of working the system from within. He stayed in the knights (even taking over his brother's position) and with Jean rooted out the Inspector and his cronies.

Meanwhile Diluc just isn't that type of person. He doesn't settle, he refuses to work in a system he views corrupt, he rather accomplish what he can outside of it. Curiously, he doesn't challenge the status quo beyond being vocal of his distaste of the Knights.

This is head-canon fantasyland, but I like to envision Kaeya and Diluc do use a lot of the same informants and collaborate on intel relating to the safety of Mondstadt (especially since Diluc can move in ways against the Fatui that the Knights can't due to political reasons) but they struggle to have the same connection as before.

For example, Diluc's story quest--Kaeya was essentially giving Diluc an alibi with the Knights. Even if Jean damn well knows who it is, they still have to have official documentation stating otherwise.

Kaeya is good at reading people, he has to be given how he was raised to be a child spy. But I like to think he struggles to read Diluc like before. Diluc is much more jaded, pessimistic, quieter than before. He prefers to work on his own as much as possible. From Kaeya's pov, the only person he's seen Diluc willing to fully trust enough to work alongside with is the Traveler, and he states as much.

The opposite is true of Diluc. Kaeya was his shadow, a quiet but inquisitive, witty observer. Cavalry Captain Kaeya is much more outgoing and friendly, his charm on full display. Did he ever really truly know Kaeya or did he only show Diluc what he wanted him to see? Is Kaeya happier this way?

Fanon often depicts Kaeya as essentially being barred from the dawn winery from the duel by Diluc himself, but I don't think that's quite the case. Much rather, given the reason he told Diluc that night, I think he views himself as undeserving due to unresolved guilt.

Canon seems to hint at all of this through his hangout and Hidden Strife, the latter of which is unfortunately a time-limited event that occurred before I even played (hoyo please stop having heavy lore drops occur in time limited events).

I think the two want to trust each other again, but both are afraid of destroying the tentative truce they have so they leave all of it unaddressed. Kaeya refuses to be completely truthful ever again and Diluc acknowledges the past but refuses to discuss it. The tragedy in their relationship that neither is at fault for what happened--it's a twisted emotional mess of grief and heartbreak.

The last point I'd like to touch on is the parallels between Kaeya and Diluc both being essentially child soldiers for their fathers' causes.

For Kaeya, being abandoned in Mondstadt to be a child spy is the most overt. For Diluc? Despite Crepus's strong ambition to be a Favonius Knight and to have a vision--neither happened for him. In Diluc's vision story, it states that he views his vision being a result of their "shared" ambition, hinting that his vision was granted after Diluc's strong resolve to achieve his father's dreams for him.

We know Crepus heavily encouraged Diluc down this path at very young age, given Diluc received his vision at age 10 and became the youngest Captain at age 14. In some ways, I'm sure Kaeya was a bit jealous of Diluc for having a loving father present in his life that was overtly proud of him.

I am not saying Crepus wasn't a good father, I think he cared immensely for Kaeya and Diluc both, but I do think he did some morally grey shit.

Diluc abandoning his vision is fascinating and it's almost never explored in fics. He is the only vision holder we know of (aside from the Inazumauns whose visions were taken by force) that had their ambition for their vision shaken in such a way that they voluntarily discarded their vision for a time and only took it back after reigniting a new ambition to have it (and as far we know the only allogene that faced no negative setbacks from using a delusion long-term without their vision present).

I don't know where to end all of this, except if you have ragbros fic recommendations that you believe cover it in a more nuanced way, let me know!

Ok, let's begin.

WHAT IS CRYO?

Cryo is associated with love in Genshin. I believe this comes from the 'the Snow Queen' by Hans Christian Anderson, where shards of a broken mirror corrupts the heart. So I can see an association there…

Ice is used as a preservative which is already perfect for Qiqi.

Ice is pretty, I can make a case for purity, clarity and Knowledge (because of the preservation aspect).

In terms of negative aspects: cold(world shattering idea over here), danger, isolation and slippery(trickster characters or smt)

let's begin.

KAEYA

Pretty boy already has the beauty aspect, however remember that there's more than meets the eye with this man. While I don't believe he's a completely bad person, I do think he could be a pretty dangerous character and so Varka was in the right keep him close.

Of course the slippery aspect works nicely with this man, I will make a case for isolation as well. Even if he does have people he cares about in Mondstadt, the dude that he should be closest to is Diluc, and well...

Also, Kaeya being aware of his role as a spy would further his feelings of isolation. The dude he trusted with that info blew up on him and the only other person we see him genuinely like is Klee.

Him being Kheanrian also allows him an association with the preservation aspect. He was told that his role would be vital for Kheanria.

Kaeya idolises family, he see's it as a very important part of a person's life. This results in one of the few concrete ideals this man exhibits. According to his informant Vile, he doesn't work with people who hurts other's families.

Abandoned by his biological dad [ I don't care if its for a good cause, its still abandonment,] he was adopted by Crepus, who died and had then falling out with his brother. I think we can safely state that he has familial issues.

Received the vision during THE altercation with Diluc. :/

DIONA

Diona's a bartender, and ice is an important part in cocktail mixing. She's open about her goals to dismantle the wine industry so we'll put her under clarity. She plays this cold, i-dont-care-about-you character, which is adorable when a child does it.

Her reasons for toppling down the wine industry is due to her father, the man is a drunk and though he doesn't become violent whilst under the influence, he still worries Diona with this addiction. Also, imagine the responsibilities that child would have. She has to take care of her father when he's in this state. We know she still loves her father though, so she has a complicated family situation.

She got her vision when she went out on a stormy night to find her father after he went missing while drunk.

She definitely loves her father, and her goals come from that love and desire to help him, even if it doesn't solve the root causes of alcoholism.

ROSARIA

Rosaria is cold and pretty isolated. She stays away from the activities of the sisters of Barbathos. She draws away from Mondstadt by being indifferent to the FUCKING ARCHON.

The people she tends to hang around with is Barbara [unwillingly], Kaeya [doesnt really trust him] and Venti[ It's Venti, the dude isn't trustworthy anyways]. Basically, her relationships in the tavern trio is, 'These two fucks are sus as hell so Imma monitor them.'

A brief explanation of her family situation. She was taken in and raised by a group of bandits. After betraying her gang, she had to kill her adoptive father. This is where she gets her vision.

She is taken in by Varka, after her 'family' was taken car of by the knights of favonius. She got the second chance since she was STILL A CHILD.

She stays and serves Mondstadt because she wants to repay the kindness she was shown.

MIKA

[Ok, so I did the research and notes like 2 months ago and I don't remember enough to elaborate on this part and I'm too lazy to go back to research so.... I'm just typing down the notes.]

Familial problems, knowledge, got the vision in a sticky situation, preservation [May come from the fact the my dude's a cartographer.]

EULA

Beautiful, dangerous, cold.

She is forced into isolation by her family and the people of Mondstadt due to her family history which is a fucking crappy thing to do. At least she has people on her side, so she's not completely alone.

I'll make a case of preservation, her family is an important part of Mondstadt's past, even if they were on the wrong side of history. bringing a major clan back this time in a positive light will preserve culture. Girl doesn't even deny her families past.

She got her vision during a low moment of her life, being cast out from Mondtsadt and her clan, unable to trade money for goods and services and left to fend for herself.

QIQI

Preservation because zombie. I guess she could be lonely, but she doesn't notice it that much. Adopted by baizhu. Whatever the FUCK I wrote here.

GANYU

As an adeptus, she has the role and duty of preserving Liyue. She was taken in by Cloud Retainer, and her story quest was her feeling lonely.

CHONGYUN

Reference to the chill you get when encountering spirits? Also his yang energy situation needs to be regulated via cold, so it could just be for mercy.

SHENHE

Obvious case for cold, isolation and danger. She was abandoned by her father and killed the monster she was sacrificed to. The adoptive daughter of Cloud Retainer. She is close with her new family.

AYAKA

Her clan are one of major players in the preservation of Inazuma. Due to her status, she feels isolated from the people she meets.

I'll make a case for Beauty and I've written down purity , which might come from the princess archetype she has going on? [ What was your logic me from two months ago? T-T]

The death of her parents had a toll on her brother, poor dude had to take over a FUCKING CLAN AND THE RESPONSIBILITIES AT THE AGE OF 16. I know Ayaka was also affected by their deaths as bad. And worst of all, one of her major emotional supports can't be close to her during such a hard time in her life.

I'm not saying she has any resentment to her brother or the people he serves, all im saying is that the Kamisato siblings were dealt a bad hand and I want people to appreciate them as much as I do.

I feel a strong case for love, especially towards her brother. Those two are pretty much all they have left.

LAYLA

All I have written down for her is knowledge. I'm gonna add preservation because her sleepy time conscience leaves a mark of her existence in the form of finished assignments.

It's weak, I know.

FREMINET

The knowledge aspect since he's fatus, Isolation [2 months younger me might have noted that due to his depression, hydrate yourselves btw.] I also wrote preservation down, if I wrote the essay down earlier I would've remembered the reason but I didn't and now I'll write more detailed notes, gods damned.

Love toward his siblings in the House of the Hearth, he also received his vision during a mission gone wrong that nearly killed him.

He took measures to protect the people of Fontaine during the Flood, and he does protect the people of Merropied.

Orphan, taken in by a family, found out later that he was going to be sold, killed his 'parents', sentenced to prison, made new family. :)

CONCLUSION

This one was a lot of guessing and decoding on my end, which is completely on me, my notes should be better.

The broken family before finding a new one trend was interesting to me, it's not all characters but enough to get me wondering.

hmm, edging and collars work for basically anyone, lets start with dollification. i'm leaving albedo out of this bc it feels both the most obvious and also bc he has his unhealthy hang ups on being an artificial creation which i wouldn't want to touch. now, both diluc and heizou would be fun, but in completely different ways.

like, if u told heizou "hey baby, today you'll be my pretty little doll," he'd be SO excited. he's into roleplay in general, loves feeling helpless and completely in your power, loves being manhandled and things being done to him, would adore to be dressed up and pampered and showed off as your pretty treasure. the problem is that he can't keep still for longer than 5 minutes or his hyperactive ass will die. so it wouldn't be so much dollification, as "enthusiastic heizou vibrating at high velocities for few minutes, trying to not move before breaking into giggles, whimpers and writhing." like he'd still be fun, just not very on theme.

now, diluc tho, that'd be a complicated case, i'm almost tempted to actually write it out. is he straightforwardly into this at first? no, but diluc is so repressed, he doesn't know shit about what he wants until it punches him in the face. he'll be open to try bc you asked, but dismissive like he doesn't even see the point. though passivity will be secretly appealing to him bc he's awkward and always anxious about doing something wrong or being too wooden and weird, so the fact that there's basically nothing for him to fuck is comforting. he'll see this as a challenge, bc diluc sees everything as a challenge, but it has clearly defined rules and expectation by which he can judge his performance, so that works well for him.

the thing is that diluc is already on several layers of dissociation, he sees his body as this kind of meat puppet, a tool to do things with, sometimes useful, sometimes inconvenient. so forcing him to ground himself in the sensations, in his body by focusing on it, being hyper-aware of positioning and movements might be very good for him, while also providing him safe space to realize he enjoys things without the psychological struggle to allow himself it first, bc it's not his decision, it's you playing with him as with literal doll.

so like, dressing him up in a pretty dress, positioning him carefully in front of the mirror, so he has to see himself, scars and all, being treated like a fragile and precious thing. leaving him for some pauses so he has to stew in this view, going back to make adjustments, touch him almost casually, nonchalantly, pretending not to notice that he's getting riled up, bright blush, cock getting harder. moving him to more and more provocative positions, until he's half undone, playing gently with his hair, while the sweet shame and desire and softness melt through his barriers, until it turns from a challenge to maintain stillness to actually relaxing and letting go of control, so when you fuck him, he's pliant, tension finally gone, trusting and open with his body.

albedo tho is that kind of introverted clingy where he won't be actively pestering you for attention, but he will drop anything if you ask him to spend time with you for as long as possible, and will be unashamedly open about it. he's also pretty direct about showing preferences to ppl he likes in public and in companies, as we've seen in few events now. so i think he'd actually be into collars unironically, as the symbol of belonging and being connected even when not together, an open unspoken secret that he's yours. he'd have very tasteful narrow leather collar, dyed darkest blue to match the darks of his outfit, with the golden ring in the center framing the gold diamond mark on his throat. like, it passes quite easily for fashion accessory for most ppl, for these in the know its like - is this ring for what i think it is??? or is this his artistic shit to accent the skin mark?? and like since albedo can be quite a mischievous smug troll, he can catch the confusion and press on it with absolute poker face, until the person is embarrassed that they were even assuming it, and then he'd drop a banger of double entendre that suggests, but doesn't confirm anything, again with innocent poker face. albedo would have a lot of fun with it

but also, the imagery of his "imperfection" framed, left open, just for you. the clasp of the leash, when closed, touching the gold diamond. silent acknowledgment of his nature and acceptance of it, the triple secret meaning of vulnerability under the already existing layer of suggestiveness. him sitting at your feet, surrounded by papers and drawings for his research, working as usual, but content to be close, glowing softly when he feels your fingers gently run through his hair from time to time, reaching up both eagerly and obediently when you tug up his leash. much to play with a little prince.

the short answer is that it doesn't.

the long answer is a bit more complicated than that.

kaeya is very protective of his baby sibling. he does all that he can to ensure that they're safe and smart and capable, because if he happens to not be around and trouble comes their way...

well, he wants to be absolutely confident that they can handle it, whether that be by smooth-talking their way out of it (kaeya has admitted to certain people that he is very amused by the way they seem to have inherited his so-called "linguistic powers") or by fighting their way out of it.

moreover, he loves them so, so much. they most definitely have a target on their back because of that. kaeya knows he has a tendency to sometimes associate with people that... aren't exactly righteous when he needs information. he also knows that his sheer adoration for the sweetheart he somehow gets to call his sibling isn't a secret to anyone who's been in mondstadt for more than a day. he can't restrict their freedom (especially not in mondstadt of all nations), so to combat his fear, he teaches them how to handle themselves in all kinds of situations.

he always knew better than to lie to them about their heritage, for a lie that severe would only cause harm. kaeya treasured their trust far too dearly to so much as even scratch it slightly.

if anything, the presence of kaeya's sibling worsens the fallout, for if kaeya were to ever blame himself for what happened, all of those thoughts disappear the moment diluc lays hands on what is most dear to him.

they feel a rage that they've never felt before despite the blood dripping from their broken nose and split lip, despite the overall numbness of their face from their wounds.

even long after the fallout, when the raging fires are reduced to spiteful words and brief exchanges full of bitterness, kaeya's sibling still holds the deepest resentment towards diluc.

-> okay this is a little tricky bc i have like three different views on how they met to begin with so lets take one im in the process of writing the fic for; diluc returns from his trip after his 18th and he is so incredibly sick but because he needs to enact his darknight hero stuff, he wants to get better as soon as possible and asks his staff to get a doctor not from mondstadt, he doesnt let anyone in mond know that hes super sick for a week. so After All Of That and diluc gets better; their first date would likely be baizhu showing diluc a restaurant in liyue and baizhu learns how bad at using chopsticks diluc is. so he spends a few days teaching diluc as best as he can :> another good idea , but less of a date would be diluc Really Fucking Struggling in Battle and Needs to be healed and luckily hes on the path near stone gate where baizhu was already going and baizhu helps him out with shields + healing bc good golly diluc is so fucking reckless

11; Do either try to hide their emotions if upset? Can the other still tell?

-> oh they both sure try !! in their early days, (bc i have like. a fucking timeline here in how they grow and slightly change alongside each other blah blah) only baizhu can tell if diluc is trying to hide his emotions mostly bc diluc is Bad at it (and that he doesnt see much of a point in hiding it too hard if he's in front of someone he trusts, or wants to trust) so if something is upsetting diluc, he will frown more (bc a lot of people think he always frowns when he just has resting bitch face sdfdsf) he will have a profound sadness in his eyes and baizhu can notice these things because paitents who dont want to admit they need help do this too, baizhu has practice in spotting these sorts of signs. then in their later days of being together for like . 4-7 years or so; diluc starts to spot baizhu's signs of hiding emotions too. in the first couple years he notices baizhus Customer Service Mode (think how he was in the archon quest with childe) which can /look/ like his Doctor Mode (baizhu's own story quest is most of him in Serious Doctor Mode) but they are two different things. diluc figures out how to notice when baizhu has something else on his mind, asks whats up and if baizhu doesnt tell him, than changsheng Will. so. lmao.

19; How do they feel about PDA?

-> depends where they are; if they are in mondstadt, diluc tries not to be super obvious with baizhu but he wont stop baizhu if he wants to be super affectionate towards him, and its a bit opposite if they are in liyue; baizhu doesnt try to be super obvious but he wont stop diluc if diluc wants to be super affectionate. but either of them being super affectionate like that towards each other is only possible about 2 or 3 years into the relationship, and not on year one or anything.

(the real answer is changsheng is the only one actually /against/ baizhluc pda; "Keep that too yourssselvess and away from the eyess of Qiqi..")

27; Who is the light weight that needs to be taken care of after a party?

-> neither of them would go to parties that often, let alone touch alcohol; baizhu for health reasons, and diluc for personal taste reasons. but that being said when they do allow themselves a small self care tactic of Having Fun, i think it'd be a bit of a competition... on who's the lighter-weight. bc i think they are both Very Very lightweight. baizhu sadly gets physically sick of the alcohol sooner, so if the question is who is by the other's side while they need to puke, its diluc at baizhu's side first,, but diluc does have worse hangovers so he's the one who ends up puking in the mornings instead of at the party itself. baizhu is only sometimes able to be by his side during those times, if hes not recovering also (if not recovering from alcohol, then some other problem he has, he often needs to spend more time in bed compared to diluc because of this and diluc doesnt mind that too much)

side note: i think diluc is a very talkative drunk and pushing aside his personal taste, he'd rather stay away from alcohol because he will accidentally spill some secrets, and baizhu has similar feelings since baizhu is a very Emotional drunk and he's not one to want to show his emotions in front of others, he will end the night crying about something probably minuscule, and diluc does his best to distract but if dilucs drunk too they are both helpless and others will need to step in (reluctantly hu tao if they are in liyue and kaeya + rosaria if they are in mond) ((on the off chance kaeya and rosaria didnt also get drunk yet, rosarias better at that but if she knows she cant handle drunk baizhluc she will find lisa or jean who Can))

I loved the three ways of Kaeya's hangout - in Sumeru, Liyue and helping the choir, but my ultimate favourite ones are at the Dawn Winery. I haven't felt such warmth from any of the character's hangouts. Everything is just as I pictured it to be.

On side note - now that Diluc being a troublemaker is a canon, I can say that Rufus from my family AU is gonna be so much like his father in his chilhood and teens.

So Kaeya is specifically the descendant of the founder of the Abyss Order, Chlothar Alberich. Kae outwardly says he has no idea of the origin, with how openly he handles his last name, but he also says it ties up some questions he’s had.

Of course, quote Diluc, “you can only trust half of what he says at best,” so of course taking that with a grain of salt:

At ‘worst’ that means Kae always fuckin knew/This is just the final confirmation about it, and he knows a lot more about the Abyss Order. (Also funfact: one of his first, base lines, like the ones you have access to w/ friendship lvl 1, have something asking “Is the Abyss Order bothering you?” Not to mention there’s an anecdote on “You’re scars of the dark? That’s… interesting.” Oh, and that first archon quest in the domains and stuff; Where Kaeya recognizes hilichurl aren’t this smart and looks like he’s about to talk with a Abyss Mage before adult barges in. And the. “Let’s just say I was blessed with certain… linguistic powers.” Shit, foreshadowing goes deep.)

At best: He had just a bit of knowledge about it, and confirmation opens a lot up for him.

I do doubt he’d actually turn to the Abyss Order, cause Hoyo making him essentially a villain/major (enough) antag would be… uh, unlikely to say the least. I can see some spying on the Abyss Order and double crossing them though, that fits with Kae.

And at the same time, Caribert is apparently Chlothar’s son, right? He’s obviously affected by the curse, being the hilichurl. And so if we’re going with the “Kaeya is from straight up alive Khaenri’ah, not just the ruins” that either means through shenanigans Caribert turned into Kae or Kae has a sibling.

However, Kaeya is called a descendant of Chlothar, so that’s a separation of time; But then that also brings up the question of how Kaeya knows of Khaenri’ah? His Story says things/describes Khaenri’ah in things in general that paints it as if he actually lived there.

Did he live in ruins? Then I doubt he’d have as much knowledge about Khaenri’ah as he could very well likely have (and not tell us, obviously, the little liar [affectionate]). Not to mention the paper he stole when his father showed him about “what being an Alberich” is about and stuff; embers blah blah; that doesn’t sound like ruins…? Ugh. He has a stupid amount of 4-pointed stars on his design too; There is no way he doesn’t know at least a good amount about Khaenri’ah.

Following the Caribert -> Kaeya thing;

Chlothar did fuck around with the Abyss sibling (I play Aether so I’m gonna say Lumine) to try and find a way to help Caribert with the curse and stuff. Hell, after we dig up the bodies when Dain wakes us up, Dain questions if Chlothar found a way to stop the curse or something. So perhaps Chlothar did “cure” (to some level, otherwise they wouldn’t need to do the Loom of Fate shit) of some sorts that returned Caribert?

And then due to Abyssal time shenanigans (it’s already proven to fuck with time, look at Ajax/Childe) memories got fucked and Chlothar decided it’d be best to leave Kaeya in Mond, whether as a spy or for a better life? Kaeya does still have that eyes patch, after all. And it’s not implausible that there was a name change for ambiguity.

But at the same time, a ‘cure’ for the curse would be questionable - why hasn’t it been mass produced/practiced by now then? - not to mention I don’t think Kaeya would only get away from all that with just an eyepatch covering his face. And again, Kaeya was described as a “descendant” of Chlothar, and it’s referred to as an “ancestor/ancestry” specifically, so for the time thing it’s unlikely.

Not to mention, Chlothar also has a bigger star, closer to Dain than Kaeya’s. As Kae put it “pure-blood Khaenri’ahn”.

So yeah, Kaeya is probably just more of a descendant, if his appearance contradicting the description of a Khaenri’ahn has to say anything (“Light hair, fair skin, star-pupil” Kae is one of the 3 playable characters that has a darker skin tone, he has dark blue hair, and his star pupil is small than compared to Dain or Halfdan. …Though Chlothar has black hair. Huh).

But bring up the fact that he describes Khaenri’ah like he’s lived there and the. That brings up and entire other question/argument. Then what was Kaeya’s father, Chlothar or not, doing? Was he part of the Abyss Order? Or was it just something purely Khaenri’ahn? How is he not affected by the curse; was it the fact that he’s only part Khaenri’ahn?

So much questions so little information. This is the reason I love and hate lore aaaaaaa-

Caribert & Kae are siblings? - Again the “descendant” and “ancestry” thing, and he is suspiciously absent if they are siblings. (Huh, the abyss/Khaenri’ah is having the small theme of siblings/siblings in arms. Aether & Lumine; Dain & Halfdan as brothers in arms; hell, in the more abyss based - Childe, you know with Teucer and shit, and then Kaeya, with Caribert or Diluc.

Of course I’m in love with the head cannon that Kae is from when Khaenri’ah was actually alive lmao :,)

And that’s only Kaeya, granted he is my favorite.

Now, the travelers. (Again, Aether as traveler, Lumi as Abyssal sibling)

Right. So we see Lumine’s memories of her time traveling with Dain, in which she meets Chlothar Alberich, who she sorta-helps with his son, Caribert. Then, once she wakes up, Chlothar goes on for a bit about the abyss being the answer to the curse or something, etc.

Assumedly, this would be where Chlothar founded the Abyss Order? At least, this is the main inviting event that leads to the Abyss Order.

I think, if I’ve read this correctly, Lumine is still traveling with Dain, so it’s not like she actively helps and joins with Chlothar. If what we say as the traveler in Lumine’s memories actually did happen, she probably joins the Abyss later; Alberich, maybe partly the fact that she’s princess of Khaenri’ah and was also incredibly helpful to the creation of the abyss order, gives her the title of Princess in the Abyss Order.

Did something happen during the travel that caused her to join the Order? Or was it just the fact of mulling it over for fuck knows how long and then splitting with Dain that got her to join?

Also, if the Alberich clan took over after the fall of King Irmin, then how do Lumine and Aether go into this? Are the the kids of King Irmin? We’re they too young to rule or something; then how was Lumine old enough to see the fall of Khaenri’ah? By then wouldn’t there be enough time for at least one for the sibling to rule? Then how come there’s no mention of it?

Hell there’s even the question of just how Aether could share memories with Lumine. Technically, nothing happened there that would indicate that there’s be like.. something to fuck around with for memories. By all means it’s just a place. Did another event happen here? Was the curse from Caribert just that strong/not as specific? Am I just looking a bit too into this part because let’s be honest they probably just need to drop this lore somehow?

Also, when Chlothar is talking to Caribert on the ledge, he says something along the lines of “remember this is a new place”

Essentially: This is new from what we know, it weird. (Come back here, please)

That either means something was fucky with Sumeru making it fantastical or they just left Khaenri’ah, which is more likely.

Then how long has Dain & Lumine been travling? The ruins of Khaenri’ah are said to be underground around Sumeru, curtesy of Kaeya*.

(*Wait, for the small story Kaeya tells, he say he want to go to Sumeru to learn more of his origins - again, grain of salt for the pathological liar - but that overall implies that he’s never been to the ruins of Khaenri’ah. Of course he could just be lying and as a child he just want to go home, even if said home we’re ruins, but still.)

How recent was the destruction of Khaenri’ah, then? Cause Dain & Lumine are both treating it as if it’s been long - Chlothar says something like “your alias” which implies that Lumine has been using the name “Traveler” during her travels with Dain long enough for it to just become.. well, her deficit alias.

And if Lumine was the Princess of Khaenri’ah, why would she give Chlothar an alias? He clearly has big fuckin stars for his pupils; If the destruction of Khaenri’ah was that recent, why would she be so guarded? Was Alberich suspicious during the reign of Khaenri’ah? But the Alberich clan took over in Irmin’s stead, meaning they were trustworthy and powerful enough to keep an entire kingdom together.

Just how long as is then since Khaenri’ah’s destruction, then? If it’s been long enough to where being weary of another Khaenri’ah is just “expected”, then there’s no reason for Chlothar to remind Caribert about our go Khaenri’ah.

If it hasn’t been to long, then why has Lumine not revealed herself, relieved at the survival and… not-hilichurl-indication of her people? And why do Dain & Lumine treat/talk about their travel, even just in Sumeru, as if it had went on for an long time?

The Earth Promises the Wind - Genshin Impact [For You, Always]

First drabble I did for Jean and Jia, aka For You, Always! This also serves as some backstory stuff, with how Jia gets her Vision! I think I figured this was around when the Ragbros are about 16-ish! Jean and the twins I see as being a bit older than the Ragbros, so ye! Have some banter!

Growing up in Mondstadt, there's no denying that everyone knows everyone to some degree. But even in such a close knit community, there are still smaller groups of friends. One of the most well known ones, and most talked about, are a promising group of friends from various clans. 

Jean Gunnhildr, expected to serve Mondstadt as her family has before her. Even her younger sister, Barbara, is already showing interest in serving the church, like their father. 

Diluc and Kaeya Raginvindr, each already promising Knights in their own right. Prodigal and charismatic. Heirs to the Dawn Winery and Angel’s Share tavern. 

Calla and Jia Yan, while not from any notable clan of Mondstadt, are well known all the same due to their unique upbringing, split between Mondstadt and Liyue. 

Diluc had long since recieved his Pyro Vision, being blessed by the Archons. Jean had just recently recieved her own Vision. Anemo, blessed by Barbatos himself. As of yet, the rest of their group has yet to earn Visions of their own, however no one in Mondstadt would be surprised if they did. They were clearly a league of their own. 

Not that that exceptionalism is entirely inherent, or else Jean and Jia wouldn't be here. Outside of the Knights of Favonius, with Jean practicing her swordswork to better figure out how to incorporate her newfound powers and make the best use of them. 

Jia was seated on the stone wall for the moment, a practice sword propped up beside her. She was far more comfortable with a bow, but couldn't deny the importance of having even a passing familiarity with close combat, and who better to train with than the best swordsman in the city? 

Though sometimes, Jia feels bad for asking Jean for her help. She's busy enough as is, such a heavy weight on her shoulders. Rising in the ranks of the Knights, already Master of Knights. Expected to give her everything to and for Mondstadt, by demand of her last name. Now she has the pressure of having a Vision, living up to the ideal of Freedom, despite having far less freedom herself than she realized. 

Jia cupped her cheek in her hand, watching Jean go through her usual drills, this time with Anemo infused strikes. She was focusing hard, her eyebrows furrowed and eyes narrowed at invisible enemies. She'd forgone her jacket, getting too hot in the afternoon sun for so many layers. Though, Jia certainly wasn't going to complain, finding that it was easier to admire her longtime friend's hard work this way. The muscles built up over the years, difficult to see when she was in full uniform. A sign of her physical strength, which still paled in comparison to her mental strength. To withstand such constant observation and critique, it takes confidence not many have. 

There's no one quite like Jean. 

But that also means no one fully realizes the pressure she's under. How sometimes she struggles to stand her ground, to prove she has earned her station. Even Jia, who's spent years earning her trust to be her confidant, may never fully understand. But she knows about the sleepless nights studying up on codes and laws by candlelight, the long hours spent training. 

Oh how she wishes she could spare Jean some of the strain. Share some of the burden…

“-vat to Jia?”

Jia say up straighter, blinking to focus as a flush quickly spread across her cheeks. “Huh?”

Jean was now facing towards her, her eyebrows furrowed in concern now, instead of concentration. She still held her sword, though it now hung simply next to her side, her other hand resting casually on her hip. “Are you alright? It's not like you to zone out like that… it's okay if you're bored, you dont have to stay.” 

Jia shook her head, laughing as she tightened her ponytail, embarrassed at being ‘caught’. “I’m fine, don't worry. And I'm certainly not bored.” She reassured, flashing her friend a playful grin. “I was just debating my odds of getting a proper sparring out of you.” 

Jean seemed to consider the answer before her shoulders relaxed, and she let out a small laugh. “I shouldn't be surprised. But are you sure you're up for it?” 

“Are *you*?” Jia countered, standing up and stretching out some. “You're the one who's been training for so long with hardly a break.” Her tone had softened to genuine concern, watching Jean’s expression closely. She'd never want to push her more than she has to. 

Jean hesitated some, at least seeming to consider. “I'll be fine. I still have room to improve, after all. And I can't say no to a good sparring partner.” She answered, adjusting her grip on her sword. 

Accepting that for now, Jia chuckled out a sigh as she picked up her sword, futzing with it some to get familiar with it in her hand again. “Alright… but say something the *second* you need a break, okay?” She insisted, walking over to Jean. 

When Jean nodded, Jia smirked and held out her free hand, pinkie lifted. “Promise?” 

Jean laughed softly, lifting her own hand to hook her pinkie with Jia’s. “Promise.” 

“Then I can live with that.” Jia beamed, backing up a few steps after they dropped their hands, lifting up her sword. Jean lifted her own, letting Jia take the first move. 

Jia was far from as fluid as Jean, her movements sharper and less precise. But she made up for it somewhat with her strength, helping to pose some semblance of a challenge for Jean. They kept it simple to begin with, a back and forth, rather like a dance. 

If only they could dance properly, to proper music, instead of the rhythm of flashing swords. 

Jia spun out of the way of Jean’s next attack, grinning as she got an idea. She easily moved behind Jean, lowering her own sword to not risk hitting Jean as she reached up, undoing her signature black bow from her ponytail. She quickly stumbled away to avoid the sword swinging behind Jean next to try and make contact. 

Jia just laughed, holding up the ribbon triumphantly, ignoring how her cheeks flushed slightly darker as she watched Jean's blonde locks fall down along her shoulders. 

“Jia!” Jean ‘scolded’ through surprised laughter, pushing some of the hair out of her face. 

Jia beamed innocently in response, dangling the ribbon teasingly. “Well? You gonna come take it back?”

“You *brat*!” Jean laughed, lunging towards Jia to continue their sparing session, and try to get her hair tie back. 

Jia didn't falter, managing to block the attack while still holding the ribbon out of Jean’s reach, if just barely. 

Hopefully Jean couldn't hear her heart trying to beat out of her chest having her so close that they were practically cheek to cheek. 

Jia was snapped out of her thoughts again by the feeling of the ribbon slipping through her fingers, and Jean’s triumphant cheer as she backed off to quickly tie her hair back up. 

“I can't *believe* you did that while we were in the middle of training.” Jean laughed, shaking her head as she set her sword aside for the moment.

There it is. This is the moment that Jia wishes she could trap in a bottle and keep forever. This is how Jean should be, getting to laugh and relax and play around. Getting to simply be. 

In that moment, Jia made a promise to herself. To stay by Jean’s side no matter what. Jean’s goal may be to protect Mondstadt, but Jia is going to protect *Jean*. To get to keep seeing her smiling and laughing. 

As Jia turned to grab water for her and Jean, she paused at the unfamiliar flash of metal next to her water bottle. Upon closer inspection, Jia couldn't help but gasp in surprise, picking up the brand new Geo Vision. 

“Is something wrong?” Jean asked, looking over to Jia as she finished tying her hair up, pausing mid-tie. 

Jia beamed excitedly as she turned, grabbing the waters quickly before going over to Jean and offering out the Vision for her to see. 

Jean stood straighter in her surprise, quickly finishing with her hair to instead reach out and gently touch the Vision, as if to confirm that it was real. Then she beamed, her hand under Jia's and giving it an excited squeeze. “You’ve earned your own Vision!” She cheered. “The strength and steadfastness of Geo, how fitting!” 

Jia was far too excited to explain why she thinks she earned her Vision now if all times. She'll just keep it her little secret. Her Vision is a physical manifestation of her most important promise. She will be a safe haven for those she loves, a sturdy pillar to support them.

To protect Jean, be the shield to her sword. To help her stand, even when the weight of the world hangs heavy. For you, Always.

another lilyluc drabble from my notes

Lily and Diluc had known eachother for some time now, it had to be a little over a year that they spent together. They went through a lot together, from Lily explaining she was a different world and Diluc taking her in to the Dawn Winery's Care. Lily explaining that she knew everything about him since he was a fictional character in her world, Diluc finally finding someone he could trust. They decided to become partners, Lily would help Diluc where ever she could with the Fatui, Abyss and protecting Mondstadt. She knew all his secrets and seemed to know of his feelings on things before he even knew his own thoughts on the matter. She had all of Diluc's trust. The person who isekaied or sent Lily to this world was a witch named Beatrice from outside of Teyvat. She modified Lily so that she wouldn't be sick with chronic pains , Lily is basically a clone or a version of the originally Lily from her world. Its complicated and Diluc and Lily dont think of it often. Of course Diluc had to go through teasing from his adoptive brother Kaeya about how obvious it was that Lily had romantic feelings for him, Diluc, had feelings for her but never would admit them,at least not to Lily herself. It was complicated but it boiled down to a few things, Diluc unsure if she did have feelings and not wanting to change their relationship, they were each others closet friends after all. They did about every thing together and Diluc told her everything. He couldn't risk that, he couldn't risk Lily and him no longer being friends or non romantic partners. Of course he saw Lily as more of a means to help end evil in this world.

Lily always there for him to comfort him whenever he needed, they would sometimes hold hands to calm each other down. When they would walk to fight monsters they would hold hands, or like when they in the middle of a meeting sitting next to eachother they would hold hands underneath the table. A simple way to say 'I'm here' it was Lilys idea to do this but he enjoyed the comfort she gave him.

Lily also helped him calm down after work, simple breathing and just reminding him to take breaks. Since she came around he felt so much more happier and relaxed.

Lily used to be easily embarrassed when they first met, but she calmed down eventually once they got to know each-other. The adjustment to being in Teyvat was a bit hard at first, but Diluc helped her get along. Lily became friends with many people in Mondstadt, she was closed to Diluc's estranged adoptive brother Kaeya. Diluc would never admit this outloud but it made him happy seeing Lily get along with him, even if it contributed more to Kaeya's teasing to Diluc when he was without Lily, teasing him about how she 'totally was in love with him as much as Diluc was with her' Diluc usually pushed Kaeya's comments away.

Lily and Diluc almost did everything together now a days. Meetings about the winery, fighting the fatui or abyss, and helping the underground organization against she fatui, and of course helping Diluc with his Dark Knight Hero Duties.

Lily even got a vision here while she was here in Mondstadt, it happened when they were out fighting the abyss and Diluc was in a tough situation and Lily, visionless at the time still tried her best to protect him until an anemo vision appeared. As Diluc was already training Lily in the art of fighting, he also helped her with her vision, they also practiced horse riding together— their favorite thing to do.

Lily was the softest person he knew, she still had a temper like him. She was Diluc's eveything, even if he couldn't say it out loud. Her kindness was everything to him. She understood all of his flaws and mistakes and loved her unconditionally. Diluc and her did everything together, from taking care of the winery, to darknight hero missions, or anything else. They wouldn't call their relationship a friendship, since it was much deeper than that. They were life partners, partners in everything expect romance. It wasn't that Diluc didn't want to be with her romantically, he just couldn't imagine a life without her, so he didn't want to take any chances. Do friends hold eachothers hand for comfort? Or cuddle eachother on the couch or kiss eachothers forehead when the other cries? That was all stuff Lily and Diluc do. Lily was Diluc's emotional support and Diluc was hers. Diluc didn't get flustured as much as he used too when they are close to eachother. He was now used to Lilys head on his shoulder or cuddling up to him, and although he almost never initiated it, he enjoyed if and always felt relaxed when she was next to him and especially when she was close. Diluc only felt truly at peace when Lily was around. Lily kissed Diluc's forehead when he had mental breakdown once to calm him down, it worked and Lily did it a few times afterwards whenever he would cry. When Lily had a mental breakdown, Diluc held her and figured he would do the same comfort to her back, so he kissed her forehead back. Although they rarely ever do this, its their most intimate form of affection.

Diluc once built up the confidence to confess his feelings to Lily, but he first wanted to ask her if they could take down the Fatui, Lily responded that some of the Fatui were as powerful as gods and they both would most certainly die if they tried. Diluc was frustrated, he had an ideal idea in his head that he and Lily would take down the worst evil and live a peaceful life together as a couple afterwards. Knowing that he couldn't do that, and that Lily didn't know how to defeat the Fatui, he got angry at her and they had a fight, just an argument. It was the first one they had. He felt so broken, he wanted a perfect life with Lily and to be able to defeat the Fatui. He was upset at snapping about the Fatui but mainly that he upset Lily, he was also extremely stubborn. He felt that he couldn't confess and be with her now. He didn't know how to apologize, he only fought with one other person before and that was his brother Kaeya and they still hadn't fully reconciled. Lily meanwhile knew he was upset, and knew he needed time to cool off. She took this opportunity to visit Fontaine and make business plans. She always wanted to see what Fontaine looked like. Diluc thought she left him and was planning on moving to Fontaine, he was miserable. Lily knew he would be upset but figured that was the consequences of his actions, she thought he knew that she was giving him a break and a time out of sorts, and she wasn't leaving for good, but Diluc thought she was. Eventually Lily came back home and they hugged and reconciled, Diluc begging for Lily never to leave. Lily told him that she never planned on it and she would always stay, they had a misunderstanding. Diluc has been afraid to confess ever since. He is still unconfident that Lily loves him romantically. Kaeya is their wingman and tells Diluc that Lily has stated that 'she is waiting on you to say your feelings first, she wants to know you love her because you love her and want to be in a relationship because you want to be, not because she asked.' Although everyone tells Diluc and Lily that their feelings are mutual, they both are unsure of themselves. Lily won't confess her feelings first, and Diluc is scarred too. He's always searching for signs that Lily means it romantically, when she has always given those signs, he is just scarred. He doesn't want to lead her on, but he's searching for the right moment to say how he feels.
