Writing my mega Horitsuba fic proved to be very therapeutic. Especially since I am doing it my very slow rhythm, in a foreign language (eng) and currently just for the sake of it. If I finish it and someone will be brave enough to read it? Wow, great! If not - it's still a damn goof ride that takes my mind off very grim and awful thoughts.
Funny, how writing moody, desperate, sad Watanuki is so easy and rewarding. He offers more hope and solace than "everything-will-be-all-right" Sakura. God bless her, she's a treasure. But she lives a world as it should be, while Watanuki is her realistic, as-it-is counterpart. Same amount of hope and love, but sometimes you know it's not gonna be all right. Yet there's still a life to live and thing to do. And people to love.
Look at this face, he just knows. Knows shit, seen shit, ready to meet it again, looking like a motherfucking queen.
ma boy is the most resilient (and perhaps, strongest) clamp character and it really pains me how people often see him broken and in need of some cliché happy-end.

The ML Crossover Nobody Wanted
Sooooo…
How many of you have seen/read xxxholic?
In particular, how many of you read the chapter and/or watched the episode about the girl with a “bad habit”?
Imagine if you would that there is indeed more to the Black Cat than initially thought. In addition to destruction and night vision, the Black Cat—like most cats of myth—can See things. Spirits, entities, curses, and physical manifestations of emotions and burdens.
Rather like Watanuki from the xxxholic story, Adrien starts to gain this power but has yet to get protection from it. The first sign he notices of something wrong is a strange mist he sees coming from Lila’s right pinky. He doesn’t know what it is, but it bothers him. Plagg tells him to ignore it, but he can’t. And he notices that the more time passes, the worse it gets.
The mist becomes darker. It becomes thicker. And even starts to emit a sort of foulness that Adrien can’t stand to be near.
He asks Lila about it, but she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. She DOES mention a strange stiffness in her finger that grows to her hand and then her arm over time as the smog gets worse and envelops her more.
When he has enough, he confronts Plagg on what this is and what it means and Plagg explains the Sight and all it entails.
He then explains that the growing smog from Lila’s pinky is a result of her bad habit—namely her lying.
“There is a weight to words. A hidden burden that people don’t realize they carry. They’re kind of like chains that tie you down—only you don’t see them and don’t realize they’re there. That’s what you’re seeing. It’s the accumulation of the burden of her lies. Because lying has become natural to her. So much so that it’s starting to take a physical presence and have an actual effect on her.”
Adrien gaped. “But…they’re just words, aren’t they?”
“She lies to get good things. She lies to make bad things go away. She lies for attention and admiration of others. Each lie she tells is a burden on her. And that burden is the cloud that follows her until it will eventually overtake her completely.”
Adrien gasped in horror. “That’s horrible!”
Plagg shrugged, uncaring. “That’s what happens.”
Adrien, of course, can’t stand for this. Even if Lila is a liar and whatever is happening is her own doing, he wants to help. Unfortunately, Black Cats don’t quite have the ability purify the way Ladybugs can and Adrien isn’t adept enough to be able to truly help. If he did try, of course there would be no way Lila would believe him. But Adrien is persistent and finally Plagg gives in and tells him what to do.
Lila has to be the one to break her bad habit for herself. But while Adrien can’t protect her from it, he can at least help to mitigate the harm and stave off the inevitable if he can get Lila to wear an item that is blessed by someone of a certain healing soul.
It just so happens to turn out that Marinette has such a healing soul. The Doumeki to Adrien’s Watanuki, if you will. Where Adrien can SEE the spirits and grudges and bad things of the world and interact with them, Marinette can purify them.
So Adrien approaches Marinette about making a gift—possibly a ring or bracelet that can be put on the hand where the effect is originating. He doesn’t tell Marinette what he needs it for. And Marinette is just happy to help and do something nice for Adrien as well as to spend time with him.
Then when the product is finished, it’s revealed that the gift she helped make was to be given to Lila—either because Adrien lets it slip or because Lila brags to everyone that Adrien gave it to her and that they’re practically dating.
Marinette is, needless to say, hurt. Adrien feels guilty for not being honest and getting her to help with something for someone she doesn’t like but he can’t very well explain WHY he needed this. It’s not that he actually likes Lila, he just wants to try to help her and protect her—even if it’s from what is ultimately the consequences of her own actions.
But Marinette can’t SEE things like he can, and he certainly can’t tell her what’s really happening with Lila. So all he can do at this point is give Lila the protective item and hope it works.
It does. For a time, at least. The ring seems to disperse the cloud and Adrien can finally stand to be around Lila again—which of course Lila tries to milk for as much as she can, completely unaware of the real reason. He doesn’t like her, and honestly would be happier not interacting with her at all. But he has something of a hero complex and doesn’t want anyone to get hurt.
So Lila continues to lie, this time about the ring. And Adrien would be annoyed—and won’t admit that he is—but he’s just glad that whatever that cloud was doing, it seems to have stopped for as long as she’s wearing the ring. But since Lila is intent on never taking it off, that seems to be a non issue.
So the ring seems to have fixed things, and now he can focus on trying to make things up to Marinette for essentially using her without explanation (his view of what he did). Marinette seems to be taking everything in stride (or she’s trying to at any rate since she has cause to think that Adrien really does like Lila now).
But Lila doesn’t like that, though. So as per Lila’s standard, she decides to try to make Marinette look bad. And what better way to do that than to frame her for the theft of the “oh so special gift from Adrien”, because of course Marinette would be jealous over it—enough for people to believe she would try to steal it. When the group goes on an outing, they’re walking along when Lila decides to try to plant her ring in Marinette’s bag.
Which requires her to take it off.
Which removes the protection it had been granting her.
Which allows the smog to be released full force and completely envelop her.
She can’t move. She’s frozen in place where she stands. Which happens to be in the middle of a street.
And a vehicle is coming.
Adrien can’t see anything through the smoke—it’s big enough to completely cover not only Lila but also block his view of anyone around her. She doesn’t know what is happening.
But he can hear.
Screaming. Cries. People shouting Lila’s name.
And even worse, Alya shouting Marinette’s name.
Then the sound of tires and a body hitting pavement.
And with that damn smog, he can’t see who it is.

the descendants (xxxholic fanfic)
OCS, Doumeki/Watanuki, Doumeki/Kohane // 1512 words // T // Kohane and Doumeki had children to make sure Watanuki will never be alone. A little bit about how their children feel about that.
Also available on AO3
Koemi Doumeki
As a child she never thought much about Watanuki's presence in her life, it seemed like just another natural part of her routine, going to school, watching television, playing with her friend who lived down the street, visiting her father at university during the break between the classes he gave, going to the shop.
Watanuki always smiled when he saw her coming to the shop accompanied by her mother or father, but there was sadness in his eyes sometimes. These days her father would tell her to go hug her uncle Watanuki, in retrospect she thinks her father would do so because he dared not do it himself as much as he wanted to.
She was the eldest of four siblings, two boys and another girl, children enough to guarantee that a lineage would probably be formed even if one of them died or simply decided not to have children. She was born to love him. Or at least to make sure he would never be alone.
She’s not sure if Watanuki knows about it or not, sometimes he catches her staring at him, smiles and says he would like her to talk more about what she is thinking, what she is feeling. That is unhealthy to keep so many things inside herself. And she thinks he's saying that to the wrong person.
Before telling her parents that she intended to do medicine rather than study folklore as they were surely expecting her to do, she often wondered if they would be disappointed or proud of this decision. When she finally tells them, she realizes it is not a matter of pride or disappointment, it was just a choice she had a right to make about her life just as they had made theirs.
Although still years later during her shift at the hospital she finds herself texting Watanuki asking if he needs anything, and even if he says no later she always ends up going to the shop to see how he is before going back home.
Soraka Doumeki
People always talk about how much he looked like his father. Uncle Watanuki never did that, he said that Soraka looked like his great-grandfather Haruka who sometimes talks to him in his dreams, that his smiles and temperaments are similar and that this was a good thing because his father's personality was a disaster (what even as a child sounded a bit fake since Watanuki had a clear preference for his older sister who was the most similar of all his siblings to his father).
But in fact he was more like his father and older sister than most knew, while they hid what they were thinking with their neutral expressions he hid with a smile. He liked that about himself, because if his emotions showed Watanuki would know that sometimes he hated him. He loved him too, of course, loved him more than he could ever hate, but that didn't change his other feelings and why they were there.
He met the girl who one day is going to become his wife in between the sophomore year classes when for no reason he decided to walk around the university science building and there she was carrying a lot more books than that she could handle when he offered to help her, and even before they reached her class room he was in love. In love in a way that just continued to grow with each day since they met, love that seemed to shape the world around them. In love in a way that his parents were not, at least not with each other.
He thinks he should have noticed this before, but only after that he came to see that the relationship between his parents was affectionate but never passionate, and worse than that they were content but not happy and living like that is okay, but accepting that it would be like this forever is just too sad for him to even fully understand. And he knows who, even if unintentionally, is to blame for that.
He thinks one day he will get married and have children. And he won't take them to the shop, though it's hard to spend more than three days without going there himself. He hates to think of the face his parents and Watanuki will make when he tells them about that decision. But that won't make he change his mind. He couldn’t change the way he was made, or the things that happened in his heart, but ensuring that his children were not put in the same position, that was at least his choice.
Akane Doumeki
One morning when she was in high school she decided to stop by the shop to ask her father to sign some school permit that she had only remembered existed when she had already left the temple and was on her way to class. She ended up not going to the tour, or school because when she got there she found that her father was not in the guest room but in Watanuki's room. So she left and spent the morning wandering the city full of thoughts and feelings in her head. And of these feelings the most prominent was envy.
She hoped her feelings for the shopkeeper were just an inappropriate and fleeting crush, or a case of magical attraction as often happened among those with powers in that world. But the pain is too big, too visceral not to be real. As well as the quiet acceptance that follows.
She couldn’t show her love with kisses and caresses after all Watanuki still saw her as all her siblings as children and would probably be quite uncomfortable with that, or with words of devotion because these would only bring him guilt.
So she shows her love the way she can, as her father and mother before her she chooses her studies based on what would help Watanuki most.
Like her father and mother before her she goes to the store and talks to him, tries to make him smile and make his life a little less miserable.
Like her father and mother before her she marries and has children to ensure Watanuki is not going to be alone when she is no longer there to accompany him.
Although she was one of the youngest, she was the first of her siblings to get married. A few weeks after the birth of her first child she took the boy to meet Watanuki, the baby who was whining and crying for hours calmed down as soon as he was placed in Watanuki's arms.
You will love him too, won't you? she thinks unsure if this should be counted as a blessing or a curse.
Hisaka Doumeki
He had all the powers of both his parents, he could see spirits and repel bad entities without even trying. But he couldn't see the shop, he knew his parents had been quite surprised by it. When they were holding him a few days after his birth and were taking him to be introduced to Watanuki they found only a vacant lot in the place that the shop should be. He can't even imagine the despair his parents must have felt at that moment, or the relief when after leaving him and his siblings with Obaa-san to realize that the shop was still there, that Watanuki was still there.
They tried to get him to meet Watanuki at other times but all he could see as he passed that street were two columns and the empty lot where his parents and siblings appeared and disappeared.
On his birthday his father always brought to him a gift from Watanuki, and even when it wasn’t his birthday sometimes Hisaka got things Watanuki had done especially for him like dishes he liked or gloves and scarves made in his favorite colors, and after he found out his taste for cooking the shopkeeper started sending him a bunch of his favorite recipes and special tips on how to prepare them. He usually thinks the shopkeeper probably does this because feels wrong for not treating all his friends' children the same way, other times he thought that as irrational as it was Watanuki loved him even without having met him, loved him simply because he was the son of two people he loved so much.
On days when he is not working at the restaurant he often helps his parents and siblings on missions for shop customers. He meets Ame-Warashi and Zashiki-Warashi. The Oden Fox and Raishuu the god of thunder. But never the shopkeeper who they all know and who seemed to occupy so much space in the lives of those who cross his path. And then Hisaka goes home to his husband and sleeps in peace.
He thinks that one day he might be able to see the shop if he has a wish that only the shopkeeper can fulfill. And he feels a little guilty for wishing that this will never happen.

Hear me out
Im back with another tsubasa li headcannon list y'all lets do this
Tsubasa has never been treated like a kid by sakura or syaoran bc they were, quite understandably, trying to prepare him for the clow country misshap for a measly 4 years (not counting his first three years, who would DO that to a baby?)
Bc of this he's been very deprived of. Well. Kiddie things.
He's also kind of a workaholic so much that Kurogane has to physically drag him from where he's working on something to rest, goddammit
Tsubasa does not get the concept of fun and only indulges in it bc it makes the ppl he loves happy. Does not know how to enjoy himself.
Fai is made painfully aware of this fact bc he catches tsubasa staring at a display of toys thoughtfully confused.
Tsubasa is always treated with amounts of childish fun and it makes the poor boy so confused. My bby needs knowledge.
Tsubasa has also spend an inordinate amount of time with feiwang that his perception of dates and time is a bit skewed. He ends up forgetting his birthday every time.
He's notably confused every time fai kurogane and mokona set a day for him specifically. Not that he doesnt appreciate it, but just. Why?
It takes a few years and a well times conversation with watanuki before he cottons in on the fact that they've been celebrating his birthday right from the getgo. He ends up sobbing quite spectacularly.
God bless watanuki's new found patience.
GUESS WHAT ITS AU TIME LET ME HAVE THIS YALL
so you all know how bc tsubasa, y'know, EXISTS and all, the time-space continnuum (how tf do i spell that?) Is all jacked up.
And like, im taking the multiverse branching out theory as reality here, meaning for every decision made there are like a million other decisions that deviate from the path of the tsubasa fam
Basically just homestuck timeline mentality for you hiatus veterans out there
So for some godforsaken reason on one of their travels, our tsubasa gang drops in on an alternate timeline in INFINITY of all places, directly in the path of a shopping sakura with the injure and a fai with the missing eye.
They end up booking it somehwere AWAY.
Fai laughs like a madman, the heathen.
But like he stops dead when tsubasa is in the middle of a panic attack.
Kuro and fai attempt to shush their bby while mokona flits around worriedly, keeping an eye out for others.
This is how alt fai and alt kuro finds them.
Kuro, our kuro, just says fuck it and carries fai like a sack of potatoes, carries tsubasa bridal style amd shoves the manjuu bun into his shirt and fucking BOOKS IT like the demon lord himself was on their toes
And considering the world theyve been in previously lets just say theyve had experience. Lots of it even. You would not believe the amount of worlds theyve been in that had them running for their goddamn lives. Heaven have mercy on their souls, bc fai and kuro are beginning to get gray hairs from trying to keep their kid out of danger.
All of it isnt even the kid's fault, for the most part he definitely just quietly listens to them obediently, gathering information essential to his main project. (After so many worlds they realize its not really worth the energy to keep throwing themselves in the middle of everything. As a wise young magician once told them, the world keeps spinning regardless of the impact they make or not.).
ANYWAY. They manage to get by sneaking aroud the alt versions of themselves by renting the apartment directly underneath. Ah, the wonders of hiding in plain sight. This plan was actually mokona's.
This decision was made because tsubasa pointed out that their alt selves would accurately predict what each of them were going to do, so leaving the plan to mokona would be very, VERY unpredictable.
(Alt fai recognizes his own magical signature anywhere, and the fact that this new group looks exactly like them and FEELS like his own group is VERY concerning.)
Ill be back with more later bc shit you guys writing all this in a car gives me nausea and i keep making typos
EXTRA EDIT heres a link to the other set of hcs

TRC Translation Notes Volume 20 Part 1 (Chapters 150 - 156)
Here we are again with some excellent translation notes about the first part of Volume 20, all from the wonderful @giniroangou.
Highlights Include: Tube mysteries solved!, Fai’s dramatics actually making sense, wonderful explanations of Fai’s lies, Yuuko Queen of sass, Watanuki will change the future!, a touching Lava Lamp moment, and oh god the Fai flashback gets worse?
Chapter 150
p.9 - Yuuko is still talking about a one-in-two chance here, not two-in-one. A couple of the speech bubbles are also swapped around - first she explains the body/soul separation, then the two worlds Sakura has gone to.
p.12 - Kurogane’s words to Fai are even more straight-forward in the original text. Just: “Don’t hurt anyone else with that sword. Including yourself.”
p.18 - Mokona and Yuuko aren’t talking about the store being different here, they’re saying that the inside of the tube is not in the same place as the store.
p.19 - An alternate translation for the dream world Sakura went to could be “The World of ‘Dreams’.” Once again for clarification, this is NOT in reference to Yuuko’s shop - the inside and outside of that tube are in different places.
p.20 - “My man Lantis” is BEAUTIFUL and I wouldn’t change a thing about it, but unfortunately it’s much less funny in Japanese. Eagle says “uchi no Lantis” which is basically like “our Lantis” - it’s an expression that indicates someone as part of the speaker’s in-group, so it can be used for a family member, a member of an organization, etc.
Lantis doesn’t actually say “I saw the future,” just “I had a dream,” though they would amount to the same thing.
p.24 - I would translate Fai’s line as, “Sakura-chan knew what I was lying about.” It’s not that she knew he was lying but that she knew the truth behind it.
Chapter 151
p.26 - This is a continuation of Fai’s final line from the previous chapter, so the lie Sakura knew about was that Fai knew one of her feathers was in Celes. Also, they dropped the honorific in the translation but Fai is still saying “Sakura-chan.”
p.28 - Fai is saying here that he found out at Yuuko’s shop that Sakura and Syaoran were searching for the feathers but he never told them about the one used to make Chii.
p.29 - It’s obvious from the flashback, but Syaoran is talking about what happened when they all arrived in the first world they were sent to (by Yuuko not Yukito.)
p.30 - Mokona isn’t talking in general terms, but saying specifically that from the moment she awoke at Yuuko’s shop she could sense a feather there but couldn’t tell who in the group had it.
Fai then says to Lava Lamp, “That’s why you kept your distance from me.”
Again, this is not really about Fai lying in general but about the specific lies people around him were already aware of. He’s basically saying to Yuuko, “You knew what some of my other lies were too, didn’t you?”
p.33 - Fai refers to his wish to go with the group as something that was devised/planned - it’s the same word they’ve used previously to talk about Fei Wang arranging for all of them to go on this journey, so I’d assume that’s what he’s referencing here.
p.34 - Kurogane asks why Sakura wanted to go into the tube, not why she’s living there.
p.39 - Slight adjustment: Fai’s saying he wouldn’t mind gouging out his eye if he could, but he can’t because losing all his magic along with both eyes would probably kill him and he can’t die yet.
Chapter 152
p.45 - In case it wasn’t clear, Kurogane is connecting his punch here with his line from the previous chapter about punching Sakura.
p.46 - Yuuko’s criticism of Kurogane after he says, “Hey, Witch,” is much more entertaining in the Japanese version. She says, “On top of being beyond rude, there isn’t a shred of taste in the way you address me.” Kurogane’s comeback is the ever-eloquent, “Shut up.”
p.47 - It’s not actually the meeting between Sakura and Watanuki that Yuuko says will trigger another change to the future, but Watanuki himself.
p.48 - I would change Yuuko’s line about Watanuki vanishing to, “Watanuki hasn’t vanished either” (presumably in addition to Sakura’s soul not having vanished.) Then she says that “for now” Watanuki’s identity has nothing to do with them. It’s an ongoing state that has the potential to change in the future.
p.50 - Lava Lamp says nothing about Fei Wang slicing out Sakura’s memories - he’s saying that Fei Wang wants her body with the dimensional memories etched into it. (This isn’t new information btw - Yuuko already explained it to the group back in Acid Tokyo.)
p.51 - We have another “Syaoran” with quotation marks from Mokona here.
p.52 - Let’s re-translate Lava Lamp’s lines here because they came out super awkward: “The reason I didn’t say anything despite what I knew was that Sakura… the Princess trusted you. Even if you’d lied, the Princess trusted you, lies and all.”
p.53 - Lava Lamp only speaks for himself here; he specifically says “I’m going to trust you too.”
p.57 - Again, we have “Syaoran” in quote marks, this time from Fei Wang. I’m sure everyone’s tired of me pointing these out, so just assume the quotation marks should be there from now on unless I say otherwise. And the translators are very inconsistent with this, but Lava Lamp’s relationship to Clow Reed has so far only ever been denoted with the word “chisuji”/血筋. He’s part of Clow’s lineage, but we don’t know anything beyond that.
Chapter 153
p.62 - Eagle specifically says that he’s offering the clothing as an apology for keeping silent.
p.63 - Kurogane could just be talking about Fei Wang watching them - he doesn’t specify whether it’s a single other person or multiple other people.
p.76 - More precisely, Eagle says here that Lantis lying would have come to nothing.
Yuuko says that the one Sakura saw being “stabbed” in her vision was Lava Lamp. The implication matches what Fei Wang was talking about in the previous chapter - that Sakura put herself in Lava Lamp’s place.
Chapter 154
p.84 - Lava Lamp refers to Sakura’s feathers as both her memories and her heart (“kokoro”), furthering the parallel with Syaoran.
Chapter 155
p.101 - This is actually a complete sentence in Japanese. It contains the same information as the translated version, but since pronouns aren’t necessary it stands on its own and can be assumed to mean, “You killed me.” It’s also written entirely in katakana, which can indicate stilted speech and here I think is meant to just drive home how horrific this is.
p.102-103 - I can see why the translator struggled a bit with these pages because a lot of the Valerian titles are unconventional. The twins’ father is the “teiou” written with the characters for “younger brother” and “king” (弟王), and the other ruler is the “kyouou” written with the characters for “older brother” and “king” (兄王). A little later it’s clarified that the “kyouou” is the country’s king/emperor - the reading of the word is “ou” meaning “king” but the kanji is 皇 meaning “emperor.” The twins’ mother is referred to as “okisaki,” (御妃) which can refer to an empress, a queen, or a princess consort. The twins themselves are called “koushi” (皇子), meaning “imperial prince(s).” It’s kind of hard to tell from all of this what the best representation of these terms would be in English, but I would guess that this is intended to be an imperial family, with either the younger brother next in line to inherit the throne if the older brother has no children or with dual rulers who were reduced to a single ruler once one of them died.
Whatever the case, as has already been explained, the twins’ parents both died and their fate was left in the hands of their uncle (their father’s older brother and the current ruler of the country.) Specific to the official translation, the “elder prince” refers to their uncle the kyouou, and “his majesty” who passed away is their father the teiou. The “royal consort” who killed herself is their mother.
I also want to point out that in this chapter we see the return of the term “fukou,” which we’ve seen Fai use in Acid Tokyo and Himawari use to discuss her effect on the people around her. The official translation often equates this word to unhappiness but as I’ve said before, I think it would be better represented as “misfortune.” Where this translation says that the twins’ mother committed suicide because “life held no joy anymore” I would interpret it as “because she’d brought such misfortune into the world.” Just keep in mind that generally when words like “unhappiness” and “sorrow” pop up in this part of the story, that’s what they’re translated from. Another word that gets used a few times in reference to the twins is “kyouchou” (凶兆), meaning “evil omen.”
p.104 - Though the implied concern here could be the twins taking the throne, the original text just refers to them one day surpassing their uncle’s power.
p.108 - “And the people shall be happy” isn’t necessarily saying that the people are going to be happy about this situation, just that the king believes enclosing the twins in a bubble of their own misery is going to allow the people to live happy/blessed lives. You could probably interpret the line either way though.
p.110 - The king doesn’t just say that one of the twins must die to get out of this situation, but that one must kill the other.
Chapter 156
p.136 - I had left a comment saying the king was telling the twins to pay for their sins rather than atone, but I’m taking that back! There are two words that sound the same when spoken (“aganau”), but depending on the kanji they’re written with one means “to pay for” (購う) and the other means “to atone for” (贖う). In this case, the one used is “atone.” Still horrific though!
That wraps it up for now. I am really regretting doing this by page numbers with all the black pages coming up, but otherwise thrilled to be back in the game! I hope all my babbling has been somewhat informative and as always, please remember that I can make mistakes too so I am always open to questions, suggestions, corrections, etc.

In the midst of changes to the world they were brought to, Watanuki finally managed to pull himself from the kingdom of Xalphina; a land so filled to the brim with magic, he could hardly believe it was real. Truly, he was finding it quite difficult to grasp that this wasn’t something he was just dreaming; from Spirale falling apart and being pulled into a black hole, to new lands suddenly being formed and appearances being changed for almost every citizen present. Even he, himself, had drastically changed into.. something, he didn’t even feel like naming; unable to really look at himself in the mirror without feeling a sort of deep rooted embarrassment. He wasn’t the only one, he could remind himself; perhaps even he had gotten off easily compared to others.. but despite the obvious problem at hand, there was something more important that swirled through Watanuki’s mind more than the fact he was no longer human.
Where had everyone gone?
He had woken up, alone; unable to contact Syaoran, Sakura.. or anyone he had befriended while being here. Perhaps it was due to everyone adjusting to their new forms, unable to even think of finding one another; but Watanuki refused to wait any longer than he already had to make sure they were all alright.
It was fortunate, he thought, that a spell he had been blessed with could conceal him from the sight of others; currently using his invisibility to traverse the streets of a neighbouring kingdom called Opalaria, which he was quickly able to learn used to be the ward he once resided in. He had also heard that most of these new races were truly only welcome in their own kingdom; thankful that for now, he could at least attempt to avoid any conflict or unwanted attention. Though, Watanuki didn’t know who he was looking for; or how different they would have looked from how he originally knew them.. but he soon found that it would perhaps not be quite as difficult as he first assumed.
Mismatched hues fell to a certain pool; shimmering on one side, while the other was hidden against the shade of a building. Inside sat someone who looked to be merfolk; the red and blue of his fins so familiar to Watanuki that he couldn’t help but stop in his travels to watch him. Those colours were so bright, so striking; he knew he had seen them before.. but only realized why when the merman had turned his head, allowing the nymph to catch a glimpse of a face he knew quite well.
“.. Ashton.. san?”
The name slipped from his mouth so easily; a look of surprise quickly surfacing on Watanuki’s face. Without a second thought, he willed himself back into sight; taking quick, yet gentle strides to where the other sat in the water. If he had said Ashton’s name while he could not see him, he didn’t realize; merely focused on making sure this person was who he thought it was. He stood at the opposite end of the pool; allowing a gentle smile to finally surface on his features, as relief washed over him like the sea that surrounded them both.
“..It is you, Ashton-san.”
“Thank goodness.. I’m so glad to see you again.”

Three Parts of a Whole
Two kingdoms apart
But meant to be one
Two parts of one whole
The moon and the sun
A union for three
And peace shall be won
Together as always
The moon and the sun
Yukito had heard the ancient prophecy hundreds of times over the course of his life, but had never understood what it meant until the notice came down from Clow Reed himself. Clow Reed, in the before times, had created the kingdom of the moon to watch over the darkness, to live in the shadows, and thrive in the night. His lover, Yuuko Ichihara, created the kingdom of the sun to complete the circle, making a kingdom that would thrive with nature and light.
The kingdoms are getting restless. A union between the moon and sun kingdoms has been requested. Know this: if the union is not achieved, war will befall both kingdoms.
It didn’t give Yukito much room to say no. Either he was going to marry the prince of the sun kingdom, or he was going to doom the country to war. Yue, however, had been none too happy about his decision to say yes—though, he didn’t exactly want the world to plunge into war, either. This was obviously the better option, but what Yukito didn’t realize at the time of signing the agreement, was that he would have to marry the sun prince as well. Yukito had summoned him as a child of only ten, spending nearly two full days trying to complete the process of summoning a familiar—something only the royal family could do. He offered out a piece of his heart to help in his creation, the rest of him had been born of nothing but magic leftover from the birth of the kingdom. He had been at Yukito’s side ever since, both because he had chosen the boy’s heart, and because he wanted to be there. Although Yue had a consciousness of his own, from that day, he and Yukito were tied. He felt the tug on his heart when Yukito traveled too far without him, the pain in his chest when he experienced sadness or heartbreak, the warmth of his happiness. When Yukito child, Yue had acted alongside the high priest, Fay, as members of the royal council, assisting the prince in making the proper decisions and learning how to rule. This often required meetings with other governmental leaders, and occasionally, with the person who had brought their kingdom out of the darkness and lit it daily with the light of the moon—the source of his power.
Clow.
The name alone sent a shiver down his spine, and Yue knew that it had never been his place to fall in love with him, but he had done it regardless. He watched him from afar at meetings, even mingled with him at parties. He was certain Clow knew, but he never said a word. This was something that they would both have to keep to themselves. In the same respect, though, that didn’t mean Yue wanted to give his hand in marriage to someone else.
It would be complicated, especially once Yukito’s feelings for the other prince started to change. Yue knew that he would feel those same feelings, and that his heart would be pulled along in that direction. If the sun prince wanted to marry all of Yukito, too, he would have to take Yue. Part of Yukito’s heart resided in him, keeping him alive as long as Yukito lived. Not to mention, Yukito was convinced that poem was about the two of them, and the sun prince, as well. Yue didn’t know what to believe.
“Now, it’s going to be about two weeks of travel. On the first morning of the second week, you’ll have arrived in the kingdom of the sun. Things are a bit different there—the moon almost never rises. It’ll take some getting used to—“ “It’s only fair that we move there,” Yukito interrupted his chief of staff, Watanuki. “So, even if there’s an adjustment period, it’s okay. He doesn’t know that he’s marrying two people come wedding day, so if we can keep him comfortable, I think that would be ideal.”
Watanuki sighed and rubbed his forehead. “I still can’t believe that slipped your mind, your highness. Of all the things…” Yukito laughed and rubbed the back of his head. “I’m still young! Very new to this princely thing.” “Yukito, you and Watanuki are the same age, 18 years, and Watanuki still manages to be far more responsible,” Yue said.
Demonstrating the point he had just made, Watanuki had moved to count the number of pieces of luggage, making sure that everything was there from the prince’s wardrobe to the betrothal gift.
“See?” Yue said.
Watanuki’s cheeks pinked a little and he turned to face them, shaking his head. “No, no, that’s not true. I’m just doing my job.” Yukito laughed and stood from his chair, patting Watanuki on the shoulder. “Don’t be modest. You know you go above and beyond! You keep my schedule, my meetings—you even know where my glasses are if I put them down somewhere different! And that is why you’re my chief of staff—and why you’re coming along with us.” Watanuki had no family—this position was all he had. Watanuki, Fay, and Yue would be the only ones staying with him after the ceremony. They were the closest to him, and he wasn’t sure how he would survive without Watanuki’s and Fay’s aid.
With the luggage packed, and the caravan ready, they set off early in the morning, the full moon above them blessing their trip. Citizens of the kingdom gathered along the route, waving and cheering and hoping to get a glimpse of their prince—who happily waved at everyone they drove by, smiling so much that Yue didn’t know how his lips didn’t fall off.
The reactions of citizens when they reached the kingdom of the sun was a bit different. People still gathered along the route, but it was almost as if they were a sideshow to the circus. People wanted to get their first look of the new prince and make their judgements and guesses about him. Of course, they had heard some things—that he was a bit forgetful, absolutely kind, and of course handsome, but that was all they knew. Yukito knew as much about Prince Touya as his citizens knew about himself. He had heard that Touya was a bit firm and stern, but had been known to have a soft side, especially when it came to his sister. Yukito liked that—family was important.
The transition from his own kingdom to the sun kingdom took a toll on everyone in the caravan. The heat was excessive to them, having spent most of their lives in chillier temperatures, and the fact that the sun was still up when it was time to rest bothered them quite a bit. Yukito ended up sleeping almost entirely under Yue, who burrowed himself beneath blankets and pillows to block out the sun. Yue’s magic was dependent on the moon, and though the moon still existed, and he could feel its strength, the sun made him feel weary.
They arrived at the castle a little less than a week before the wedding, and servants from both the caravan and the sun kingdom arrived to assist with placing guests and luggage. A temporary room had been prepared for each of the guests, who were escorted by a servant of the castle. Yukito explained that Yue would be staying with him, and although he received a funny look, it was allowed. The room was probably supposed to be inviting, with bright colors, a large bed, and plenty of space, but it just felt strange to both himself and Yue. There were going to be so many things that they would have to get used to from now on. Yukito began unpacking his belongings, until Watanuki arrived and practically shouted at him for touching his things and doing work that was meant for someone else. It made Yukito a bit uncomfortable to think like that, but he stepped aside anyway and let Watanuki do his job. “You’ll be having a formal meeting with the prince of the sun kingdom this evening. I’ll come to fetch you, but here,” Watanuki retrieved a time piece from his pocket and tossed it to Yukito. “It’s difficult to tell time here, so use this. It’ll need to be wound occasionally, so keep an eye on it. Now, for the formal meeting, I suggest wearing your robes and the small, silver circlet—Yue, I recommend you wear one as well. Yukito is positioning you as an equal here, and in a few days, due to marriage, you will be. So, you might as well start acting like it…”
Watanuki laid everything out for them both, Yue getting increasingly uncomfortable as time went on. He was dressed in formal robes, given a dainty crown to wear, and when he looked at Yukito and realized he was wearing very much the same thing, he nearly felt ill. They weren’t supposed to be on the same level. He was supposed to be here to serve Yukito, not act as the second prince of the moon kingdom… As promised, Watanuki arrived at their door in the evening to escort them to the meeting, walking them down the halls, somehow already knowing the layout, explaining to them how the meeting would just be the three of them, dinner would be served, and the time afterwards would be spent as free time should they want to spend more time together.
“I’ll be just outside the door if you need me,” Watanuki said, pushing the door open and holding it there for both of them. “Remember, be nice,” he added, looking pointedly at Yue as he walked past him and into the room. Watanuki shut the door behind them and took up post outside it, doing his best to look like he belonged there. He blended in with the people of the sun kingdom well enough, because of his hair, though his eyes were a dead giveaway that he was different. Yukito was pleased to find that, indeed, the table had been set for three. Word was getting around, then. He hoped that Prince Touya hadn’t heard of this little…dilemma yet. He wanted to be the one to tell him, and apologize for his error. Yue stood beside Yukito, and slightly behind him. The room certainly was private, with large, open windows lining one side, allowing for the sun to shine in and for a breeze to tousle their hair. Were it not for the fact that he felt so exhausted by the change, he might even go so far as to say the view was beautiful. In the distance there were sand dunes, hinting at a desert, but for as far as he could see in other directions, there were luscious tropical forests, green grass, stucco style buildings and beautiful flowers in the garden just outside. Perhaps when he had the chance, Yue would go spend some time out there. Perhaps...this wouldn’t be so terrible.

Day 7 - 100
Happy Birthday @psychologistofscience !! Hope you have a wonderful birthday and also that this story isn’t too bad XD Last one will be for free day, and I will try to make it fluffy to pay you back for this one XD Never listen to sad music while writing. I am so sorry. I also have to use tags I have never used before here.
Days passed too alike each other for the mage by now. Nothing really happened to make a day different, and that was a good thing. It meant the days of wars and troubles were over. Now there was peace, and no more worries about if those he loved would come back from war.
After their travels ended, Fay moved together with Kurogane back to his country, where they eventually settled in Suwa, Kurogane wanting to protect the legacy his parents had left him. Kurogane took over as the Lord of Suwa, and Fay became the new priest to protect it. He didn’t have the same powers as the usual priestesses had, but his strong magic made up for all he lacked in local magic.
Their first years passed in peace, and just the daily challenge of getting used to living together as husbands and learning how to take control of a while province. Fay learnt the language gradually, and were able to start communicating better with everyone, and Kurogane eventually realized he didn’t have to copy his father in everything, and found his own way of ruling.
Then came years of nothing but bliss. To Fay those times were still the warmest memories he had. Before the war, and after he had been able to make himself at home in his new world. Then they tried another challenge together, as they adopted a young orphaned girl. It was really hard in the start, but it eventually turned out perfect. Later they even adopted twin baby boys that had been left in the forest. Fay and Kurogane were happy, and they had everything they could have ever dreamed of.
Then came decades of war.
It seemed like there had already been a lot of unrest the time Kurogane had been gone, as many Lords wanted to make Suwa a part of their own lands. It had stood a long time without any Lord, but Tomoyo had kept it under her protection, saying it would stand there until Kurogane took it back or died. Once he took over as Lord, there wasn’t really much they could do, but they kept finding other things to complain about, as they all wanted more power, and valued each chance to speak against Tomoyo or her sister.
Once Kurogane returned of course they had said he was too young and impulsive to rule, something Kurogane easily had proved them wrong from day one, as he had more than matured over his long journey. Having Fay by his side did of course also help, as he had one of the strongest wizards with him. No one could deny him his Suwa, and over time he proved he deserved it as well. Suwa in no time became the strongest province and smaller provinces joined with Suwa to gain protection, as Kurogane and Fay would always do their best to help everyone.
Yet, after 30 years of bliss, it was cruelly ended.
Troupes from the greedier provinces waged an attack against the Shirasagi Castle, claiming they had been wronged and would use the empress’ own sister as a hostage. From there it escalated into war. Sadly, with more victims than Fay would have liked.
The first to fall had been the empress herself, Sōma falling next failing to save her. Tomoyo had barely been able to escape thanks to their sacrifices, being able to regroup and rally the forces that were faithful to the late empress, and many that had sworn to help the new lord of Suwa, that had protected them from dangers for over 30 years.
The war continued for the next 20 years. Fay feeling his heart almost break in two each time he had to watch his husband and their children go off to fight, knowing he couldn’t leave himself. He protected the borders from demons. Even if those they fought were humans, they could not forget about the biggest dangers. One demon getting through was enough to eradicate Suwa in just some hours. After the attack on the castle, and Tomoyo having to flee, demons had crossed through and ruined more than the attackers had been able to.
So, Fay waited and prayed. Keeping up to the point of exhaustion as he was afraid he would fail and those he loved dead. He would only rest when Kurogane returned, as he knew he would easily protect Suwa while he rested. They were a team. When the other was there, the other could rest and know they had their back.
Even when Kurogane grew older, Fay never doubted his powers. He felt like Kurogane just grew stronger with the years, and they never had any sort of issues with the fact one of them aged and the other didn’t. Both treasured the fact that they were together no matter what. Even in war their children grew older, and eventually found love as well, and during the final years of the war, the proud parents also got to become grandparents. First one of their sons found a wife and married, being blessed with a daughter not long after. Fay remembering fondly the first summer they babysat her, as the toddler were eagerly running away from her laughing grandfather, who enjoyed the calm between being a general. Fay already started spoiling the little girl, that would always fall asleep on her ‘grandma’s’ lap after a long chance.
Then their daughter also got a child, just before the war ended. A little precious son, that had been born too early, barely surviving the night as there was chaos. Sure they would lose the war, the other warlords had aimed an attack directly at Suwa in silence. If they cut down the priest, the demons would destroy it all for them.
It had not gone as they planned though. Far from it. When the battle was over, they had all been eradicated by magic so strong no one in Nihon had ever seen its equal.
With that the war was over, and now 20 years later, there was more grandchildren and there was even a chance of great grandchildren someday soon.
Fay gives a warm smile as he leans back against the sliding door on the porch, enjoying the warm breeze as he looks up at the setting sun, a cup of sake in his hand as he raises it to the sunset. He was probably getting silly on his older days, his sons kept saying he was probably going to go senile soon. He kept telling them there wasn’t really a history of people growing senile where he was from though, but they didn’t seem to believe him. He knew they were only worried he was getting a little funny though. They kept wanting to come over all the time to make him spend time with the kids. They probably knew something was up. They were smart kids.
“I heard the progression will pass here tonight.” Fay turns as he hears a familiar voice, smiling as he pours a cup for his guest as well. The barely older Tomoyo accepting it as she sits down beside him, both of them silent as they watch the daylight bleed away. “It is a scary Parade. Full of demons and other dangerous things, but even the power of a priest or priestess won’t stop them from passing. It is the one night the dead can roam the earth, wherever the parade of a hundred demons pass.”
“I think I heard something about it once.” Fay whispers, as he avoids her gaze, drinking the last of his cup. “It hasn’t passed since I moved here, so I can’t say much about it. It is only each hundred year is it?”
Tomoyo shakes her head defeated over his stubbornness. “Watanuki told me to tell you one last time he would accept a refund if you changed your mind.”
A soft laughter from the gentle mage, as he shakes his head. “I won’t change my mind. I have prepared for this for over 10 years now. My son is an even stronger priest than I can be, and there is no war, so all my children and grandchildren can grow up safe. I feel like I can rest now.”
Tomoyo bites her lips, wanting to say something that would magically make him change his mind, but she knew there was nothing she could say to change his mind. The only one that could have made him go one was already gone.
After all, Kurogane had died the last day of the war at the attack on Suwa. Realizing demons were able to break through the barrier, Kurogane had run to the hurt Fay, that had gotten stabbed. Fearing his past being repeated, he had protected his family without any regards to his own safety. By the time Fay came to again, Kurogane were barely breathing. Overcome with grief, the moment Kurogane had said his last words to him, the powerful wizard had used his powers to crush the remnants of the enemy and the demons that had started coming through the barriers.
He had lost his soul mate that day, and were still feeling like he would find him again. It just didn’t feel possible that Kurogane wouldn’t be there with him anymore. A world without Kurogane was a contradiction to him that had seen Kurogane as his world.
“Have you said goodbye to your children?” Tomoyo whispers, trying to guilt him into changing his mind, as the last traces of the sunset started fading over the mountains in the distance, a tune seeming supernatural coming from the forests around them, as everyone in Suwa had locked up their homes for the night.
This was the time of the parade of a hundred demons. It was a party for demons and supernatural creatures to rise up and party through all of Nihon. They would start in one part, and just move through the entire world. Fay had heard about it the year after he lost Kurogane. And how it was just a few decades away. Rumors had said that many people had gotten lost with the parade because they had seen their dead loved ones, and left the world of the living behind.
Fay had made his peace with the world. He had lived a long life, a much longer one than most people. He didn’t see it as ending his life. He just saw it as dying of the old age he would never physically reach.
“I have left messages to them all, they will all split what their father left them, but they have always known they will share it all equal. Takemi will take over my duties, and I think Sora wants to keep ruling in her father’s stead, she has done and amazing job with it so far, and I think Tsukiko is just happy helping both of them.” Fay chuckles gently, as he was blessed with kids that were able to share. He felt like they had gotten a lot of good characteristics from their father.
“What did you ask Watanuki for?”
“Something so grave the only price I could pay was my own mortality.” He gives a weak smile now, as the sun were already gone, a bright blood moon lighting up the skies to show it was the demon’s night. “To make sure a soul enters the demon parade, if just for one night.”
“Are you even sure it is going to…” Tomoyo starts, a last desperate plea, as she felt like Kurogane would have wanted her to take care of Fay for him. She was the only one that might outlast him after all. But her plea is cut short, as the parade were upon them. A festive yet eerie sight, as demons, ghosts and other vile creatures’ floats through the forest ahead of them, bright lights from spirit fires in all different colors, long shadows reaching them as neither of them really took notice of the parade at all, but the tall man that had appeared in the opening to the forest ahead of them. The years of war gone from his face as the harsh decades had washed away, seeming the same age he had when they had been younger together.
A warm smile on his face, as he looks at the gentle blonde, that were feeling tears well up. No, he didn’t see this as tossing his life away. Kurogane had been his life, so he just wanted to spend the last moments of it with the man that had given his sad existence meaning.
“Fay!” A last plea from Tomoyo, that had been taken off guard by seeing the phantom of her old bodyguard, just in time to grab Fay’s hand as he had been about to run to him, but she looks shocked as she felt his hand in her own, but he still ran to his husband, her touch or words unable to reach him anymore.
A tight embrace, the long-lost lovers not wanting to let the other go ever again, the smiling Kurogane brushing the weeping Fay’s cheeks loving as he brushes the tears off his cheek, before they kiss hard. Just breaking apart to laugh gently as they rest their foreheads together, finally together again. Forever.
The progression of demons and ghosts soon pass, the crying Tomoyo watching as her dear friends fades together in the warm summer night breeze. Feeling the cold hand in her own still, as Fay sat rested against the sliding door still, almost looking like he was just sleeping, a warm smile on his lips, as he in the end had no regrets in life.

To be fair, Watanuki didn’t know the first thing about teaching cultivation. He had learned it, and he had been good at it, but that didn’t necessarily make him a teacher. He knew how the lessons were, what was supposed to be accomplished when, but he was still worried about it. He wanted to honor Yuuko by taking over her space at the temple. He wanted her legacy to live on through him — it was all he could do to repay her.
But he would never be her. No matter how often he wore her clothes or blew on her pipe, she would always be her own being — a beautiful enigma, stolen from the world. He would never be able to teach these children the way she taught him, and they would never be blessed with her presence.
He laid restless in bed most of the night, catching a few hours of sleep here and there. Truthfully, though, he was likely just as nervous as his students.
As the sun rose, Watanuki rose with it. He dressed lazily in his robes, hardly tying them appropriately. The cowlicks in his hair attacked his bangs, and the rest was pulled back into a low ponytail at the nape of his neck.
He hadn’t given his students a notice of when to wake, but it was the first day — they could rest a little longer. That would give him enough time to prepare a good breakfast for them...
He pushed his glasses over his nose and stepped into the kitchen, blinking blearily when he realized he wasn’t alone. Too short to be a servant — and besides, his servants didn’t do this sort of work. Watanuki was very particular about his kitchen, and cooking...and cleaning. The folks in the nearby city said the servants at his temple were some of the luckiest around — they only had to do the chores Watanuki couldn’t complete on his own in fits of rage.
“Oh, it’s you,” Watanuki said. Not really a good look for a shishu, but that was fine. Doumeki hadn’t shown a good look for a disciple last night.
He was still wearing his dirty clothes, and though he couldn’t even see his eyes, he could see the bags under them. He didn’t like that he couldn’t see his eyes — it made him feel like he was hiding something.
“Did it take you that long to clean because you can’t see anything?” Watanuki asked, stomping his way into the kitchen now.
Everything was...clean. Ish.
His brow twitched and he ran his finger over the countertop.
Just like a rich boy to not know how to clean. Maybe that would be his first lessons, just as Yuuko had done with him. He would harden these children with good ol’ fashioned labor. They needed to learn what it felt like to get thorns in their hands, and the satisfaction of bathing at the end of a long day.
“You’ll assist me with all the cleaning until I say otherwise,” Watanuki said. Until it became easy — second nature to do such things — Doumeki would need the work. Such things built character.
He moved about the kitchen as if Doumeki wasn’t there, setting about what he needed to prepare a breakfast for fifteen children. They were going to need to purchase a lot more eggs and rice.
“If you’re going to stand there instead of getting changed or washing up, make yourself useful by brewing me another pot of that tea.” That was assuming that Doumeki had more of the ingredients necessary to create that delicious brew. What was in it? Raspberries, maybe, to create that red color and sweet flavor?
“And get that stupid hair out of your face!”
