After the initial shock of Geoff sprouting wings had worn off, Eli gently shook Geoff until his eyes opened. His head rolled for a few seconds but he finally found Eli. "...What happened?"
"...You passed out," Eli said gently. "How do you feel?"
"Terrible. My whole body hurts." Geoff closed his eyes and wiped at his head in irritation.
"Can you sit up?"
"Not yet."
"Okay. Just lay there a while."
"Okay." Geoff tried to roll over onto his back, but the wings were in the way. "...What am I laying on?"
Eli looked up at the others, not knowing how to answer. Tony made a helpless gesture and Layne cleared his throat. "Roll over the other way."
Geoff rolled over onto his stomach and his wings spread out on either side of him. "I feel so damn weird." He reached out with his right arm, and he froze as his fingertips brushed a wing. His eyes went wide, and he slowly turned his head to see the outstretched wing to his right.
"It's okay," Eli said quickly, putting a hand on Geoff's shoulder. He felt like a fool, but he didn't know what else to do. "Just stay calm."
Geoff slowly turned his head to his left and saw the other wing. His eyes got even wider before rolling back, and he went limp on the floor.
Eli sighed. "He's out again."
"Well," Layne said, "at least he's calm."

Geoff came to about half an hour later and they managed to get him to a changing room and sit him in a chair. Geoff could only sit and stare at his reflection in the dressing mirror in bewilderment and disbelief.
Why couldn't I have angel wings instead? With nice pretty fluffy feathers? And to make matters worse, black horns were growing on his head, and his fingernails were turning into black claws. What's happening to me?
Layne knocked on the door frame. "Hey. You doing all right?"
Geoff looked over at him. "No." He looked back at the mirror. "We're...we're sure I'm awake."
"Unless I'm having the same dream." Layne came over. "Eli and Cesar went to break the news to Kathy."
"What!" Geoff turned his body to face Layne and nearly toppled from the chair as the wings threw him off balance. He grabbed the back of the chair to steady himself. "Kath can't find out about this!"
"How are you going to keep it from her?"
"I..." Geoff's voice trailed off, and he hung his head. How could he keep Kathy from finding out? He couldn't hide in PattyCake for the rest of his life. "...I don't know what to do, Layne."
"We'll figure something out."
"Yeah..." He looked back to the mirror in frustration. He just wanted to be himself again...
A shock went through his body and he gagged from the sudden pressure in his torso. When his eyes cleared he looked in the mirror to see himself as he had been before all this started. The heat returned as the pressure in his chest built to an intolerable level, and he was finally forced to let it go. The sensation of the wings and horns regrowing was highly unpleasant, and he couldn't stop the shudder that racked his body.
Layne grabbed his shoulders. "Are you okay?"
"For the second time, no." He swallowed back vomit.
"What happened?"
"I...I was thinking about how I wanted to be myself again, and then that."
Layne's face lit up. "You can change at will! That's great!"
"Layne, I can't hold it!"
"So you need some practice. It's better than before, right?"
Geoff sighed, tired, and rubbed his face. "I guess so."
Layne's phone went off then, and Layne pulled it out of his pocket. "It's Eli. He's video calling." He answered. "Hey Eli. What's up?"
"Hey Layne." Eli's voice was concerned. "Is Geoff awake?"
"Yeah, he is. Did you tell Kathy?"
"Well...not yet. There's a problem."
"Problem?" Geoff asked. "What problem?"
"See for yourself." A second later Layne's free hand went to his mouth, and he handed the phone to Geoff.
Eli had given the phone to Kathy, and Geoff gasped as he saw her--with horns and wings identical to his own, except a soft shade of gray. Kathy's mouth dropped as she saw Geoff, and for a few seconds all husband and wife could do was stare at each other.

Layne began to worry when ten seconds passed in complete silence. He wasn't even sure Geoff had blinked. "Hey, Geoff..."
Geoff's eyes rolled back and the phone clattered to the ground as he fell out of his chair. Layne sighed as he picked up his phone, which showed Geoff's living room ceiling. "Well, Geoff's out again."
"Yeah," Eli said. "So is Kathy."
