|\/\/\| warped |/\/\/|
The next few days blurred together without much distinction. The league had all busied themselves with the planning of the next mission: going into the forest where the UA summer camp is held to kidnap a student and send hero society a message. Having attended UA, your intel was potentially useful for a moment before you all discovered they'd moved locations. With the inside source only being able to divulge the new destination the day before. it became necessary to create many variations of the plan to ensure at least one would work.
Initially, you thought the frenzy the headquarters had turned into would make for a fast-paced week for you. Sadly, you were wrong.
Considering your quirk, your job is to hang out through the meetings and not get in the way. It's becoming boring, really. At first, you played a game on your phone but Shigaraki has since taken that away. Claiming you're “not here to be distracted.” He'd have a point, but you know that's not how your visions work. Everyone in this room knows you don’t have much experience in these things, so your voice goes largely unnoticed. You consider faking a premonition, but with the potential results and doubt that could cast on your quirk, you think better of it.
People come and go, some you’ve never met before. A few of them are so terrifying, you have to remind yourself you’re on the same side now. They aren’t a threat. Well, you don’t think they are at least.
The usual crew are around sporadically, but at this point most have other assignments taking them away. You miss the days Toga and Spinner would talk to you, seeming to take you more seriously than the rest of the group. Kurogiri doesn’t seem to mind lingering on call, warping people here and there as needed. Otherwise, you’re mostly stuck with Shigaraki now.
Being in a room with him fourteen hours a day has been interesting, to say the least. You've learned a lot.
For starters, he works obsessively. You once thought he was content with working lightly and playing video games all day. Now that he has a purpose, there's been a fire lit underneath him that no one can put out. He starts early and finishes when he's so exhausted he couldn't possibly continue to think straight. No details of the mission go ignored, his ability to care for himself is completely out the window though. He didn’t change clothes for two days straight, until the morning of the third day when Kurogiri warped him into the shower and he had to.
You've also learned that his eating habits are interesting. He hasn't had a home cooked meal this whole week, relying on takeout and instant ramen packets to sustain himself. Not noticing he's hungry until he begins to get light headed and has to eat. In his defense, he hasn't taken more than a five minute break either so this may be contextual. You're not sure yet. After day two, you started bringing him food whenever you're preparing yourself something. He eats like a picky kid, leaving anything too healthy or weirdly textured on the plate. Even if he's not eating it all, you'll call it a win. His moods have improved slightly with the more consistent blood sugar.
He's still not the easiest to deal with though.
After opening up to him, running from security, and hiding together you thought he’d be warmer. If anything, he seems even more determined to keep a distance from you. Never sitting too close. Not making direct eye contact. He even moved his chair to create more of a buffer when you sat next to him. Since he’s giving you no indication the two of you formed a friendship when you spent time together, you’re trying to do the same. Trying not to bring up your shared experience. Ignoring the way the light hits his eyes, making them glow as he peers out through layers of hair and fingers.
Having now seen his face up close, you can't unsee how beautiful he is. It's the same features hidden beneath his hand mask, but the way your brain puts them together is different. He removes the hands to eat when it’s just the two of you, giving you a better view. Maybe that’s the only indication you’ll get that he’s more comfortable in your presence. It’s so minute though that you worry you’re just reading too far into everything, trying to find what you want.
You try not to stare.
At his face.
At his hands.
Remembering how he brought an entire building down effortlessly with one touch. The way his pale skin stretches over the bones, you wish you could hold them. It scares you but it also-
“[l/n]?” his more gruff than usual voice shocks you back to the reality, “are you even listening?”
“Sorry,” you mumble, “just tired.”
“Kurogiri, make more coffee before everyone shows up,” Shigaraki looks back at you, eyes burning. It’s the first time he’s looked at you directly in days, “you need to be alert.”
You take in the moment, finally having an excuse to stare at his face. He takes off the hand, briefly, to sip whatever he’s drinking before everyone shows up. Admiring every freckle, line, and scar. It leaves you feeling like you’ve been transported back to the Victorian era, giddy over ankles. Since when have you been so desperate to look at someone’s face?
“Fuck, you really are tired,” he grumbles while putting Father back over his face (you also learned that the hands have names. You’re not sure if that makes it better or worse.)
The others arrive and the meeting starts more promptly than usual. Everything about the plan feels off in a way you can’t pinpoint. It’s probably just because of your own experiences at UA. Watching everyone plan around a summer training camp you’d attended brought up your own bad memories. You worked to push them away for the sake of the mission, glad you won’t need to actually be there.
It feels like you’ve done nothing but push down your feelings lately.
Tumblr media
People arrive and leave through the warp gate, landing themselves somewhere along the cliffs above the forest. Each making their own commentary. Dabi keeping everyone on task, being the leader in Shigaraki’s absence since he’s still not fully recovered. Toga complaining about the equipment she has to wear. Magne makes a comment to you, thanking you for taking a few nights off for the mission.
Oh.
You blush, assuming people would have dropped their assumptions of where you go at night after the bet ended. Looks like it didn’t end though.
You glance at Shigaraki and he shrugs, he never told anyone. Maybe he’s ashamed of spending time with  you. The feeling hits sharp in your chest, but you won’t push it.
After seeing everyone off, the three of you settle down a bit but keep an eye on your phones. Not much excitement tonight, but you’re getting consistent texts from the group chat as the others meet them at the location.
Everything’s going according to plan.
Kurogiri and Shigaraki are still talking in the bar when you turn in for the night. You try to enjoy the quiet. For the first time in a week, sleeping soundly through the night and late into the morning.
Tumblr media
The day trickles by slowly. On paper, it should be relaxing. Even those on the ground of the mission are having a leisurely day. The consistent updates are reassuring, it should be fine.
Even so, you still can’t shake this feeling of dread. The feeling has persisted through the morning even if you aren’t anywhere near the training camp. It feels like something bad is coming, but the decisions that would trigger your quirk are still in progress. So, once more, you’re stuck waiting. The anticipation is nauseating.
You’re sitting at the dining room table, occasionally sipping the coffee Kurogiri placed in front of you. After making a breakfast that neither of you have touched, he’s been busying himself with cleaning. None of it seems necessary, just something to do to pass the time. Shigaraki came out of his room eventually too. Barely looking at you, staring at his phone instead. It reminds you of your first days with the league, before the others showed up and filled the space with life. Interestingly, you haven’t known them for too long nor would you consider yourself close with anyone, but you miss having them around.
The day drones on.
It’s not hard to find tasks to busy yourself with throughout the day, but eventually you end up in the bar again two seats from Shigaraki while Kurogiri continues to wipe an already spotless counter.
The plan was, everyone keeps you updated as they make decisions. In reality, no one checks in with you all night. The lack of responsiveness from the estranged group brings tension to an all time high.
Be it stress or just not paying attention, Shigaraki decays a glass, sending ice and shards across the bar. It sends a thrill through you, although you’re not sure why. You try not to think about it, but can’t help but stare longingly at his hands.
Fuck, you need to touch grass.
After a long, tense evening the others finally request a warp gate, returning with a student. Immediately, you feel rushed. Like something in your life has been knocked out of place but without the visions to accompany your foreboding, you’re not quite sure what to make of it.
You mention this to Shigaraki but he doesn't know what to do with that information and tells you it’s probably just nerves after everything. Suggests you go for a walk or something to clear your head.
Everyone recaps the evening over a few drinks. A handful of the league members you’d never met were apprehended, but overall the mission is deemed a success. You try to celebrate with everyone else, pretending it all feels fine.
Tumblr media
Days go by and the weird feeling only increases. Everyone’s back but the mood has shifted from earlier in the summer; it’s more tense now.
As for the UA student, no progress has been made. You’ve lost count of the number of times you’ve been shoved into the room with him, waiting for your quirk to activate. In your brief interaction with Bakugo (who’s name you just learned,) it seems very unlikely he'll join the league. However, with the mental block you have against UA and not knowing this person at all - your quirk isn't giving you any information you couldn't infer. Shigaraki seems convinced it will work though so you let him keep trying, wondering if he bothered to think up a backup plan in case this doesn't work out.
From your bedroom. you hear a faint knock on the door of the hideout. Immediately you fall back onto your bed with a vision. The feeling you’ve had all week intensifies and suddenly you’re running, fleeing, stuck. Clips of the commotion flash through your brain then it’s over.
“I didn’t order a pizza,” Spinner says, “I’ll go ask [y/n].”
“No!” you scream, rushing into the bar.
But it’s too late.
A flash of blue and red smashes through the front door followed by what you can only describe as tree limbs. Suddenly, you’re all tangled in the mess of branches with nowhere to go. Your heart jumps out of your chest. There’s nothing you can do from here.
You sit hoping for an escape. For Kurogiri to warp in help. For Dabi to burn whatever quirk is holding you down. But no help comes.
Spinner begs All Might to reconsider but Shigaraki only taunts him. Refusing to answer his questions.
You’ve almost given up hope when black clouds of smoke form around you and strange creatures come out. You recall some talks of nomu in the past but this is your first time seeing them. The view is short-lived, you feel someone grab your arm and shove you through the warp gate.
You feel the cold, hard ground beneath you. The person you assume is Shigaraki's sensei addresses you all but your head is still spinning from the warp. Premonitions come flooding in, so quickly you can barely latch on to any of them. There's barely time to adjust before you're being thrown back into the rubble. Everything goes dark again. For a moment, it's calm. Then the pain hits. Likely concussed, you lay back in a daze. Your head aches. You know you should feel panic now but it's not coming.
Another warp gate opens behind the group and you're all being sucked in by some outside force. Confused, you try to fight it before Shigaraki shoves you through behind him. Some small part of your brain knows it's utilitarian but you can't help but latch onto the feeling of his three fingers pressing into the space just below your collar bone and shoulder. At least he cares enough to keep you alive. You give in to it, letting yourself plunge into the gate.
Everything goes black as you fall into the darkness.

next chapter - a new end masterlist - bnha masterlist
sorry this one is taking so long to update, i have to be in the right headspace to write it and i want to get it right. i really wanted to write something where the reader loves the parts of Tomura that are hard for others to accept. which means it gets weird at times (even weirder in a few chapters when the smut starts up.)

Healthy Secrets
Love is being late to work because you can’t ever say goodbye in a reasonable amount of time
a @steddielovemonth prompt | 1012 words | CW: N/A | Rating: T
--
Marnie hates him. Steve can’t really blame her. The practice opens at 8:30 am sharp and for the other psychiatrists that’s a non-starter. Well. It’s not a rule, officially, at least, but Marnie’s a stickler. Her schedule may as well be a bible, dictating their lives and holding everyone to the highest standards.
Except Steve. He uses the schedule as… a suggestion, a guide really.
See why Marnie hates him?
He tries to make it up to her. Honest. Steve is diligent about his appointments and doesn’t mind staying later than the others. He makes a point to keep fresh flowers in her vase at the desk (a tradition he’d started on behalf of her late husband) and he takes her out for lunch twice a month.
None of that even softens her glare when Steve walks into the clinic with only five minutes to spare before his first appointment. Every day, like clockwork.
Look. Steve’s a punctual guy. Really! Any other time he’d be sweating his balls off trying to get there on time or going ninety to nothing – always racing the clock. On weekends, he’s the one chomping at the bit to make it to brunch plans or hounding Eddie to get a move on so they can beat holiday traffic when they make plans to visit Wayne.
Mornings are his weakness.
He wakes up, twisted in sheets with his leg between Eddie’s and their arms splayed over one another. Eddie’s face is almost always close to his, either sharing the same pillows or nuzzling up to Steve’s collarbones. Their comforter is a delightfully heavy weight, although it creates a furnace beneath its shelter – one Steve never wants to leave. Can you blame him? He wakes up to his own dash of heaven every morning, just himself and the love of his life in the sanctuary they built together.
His alarm goes off at six, then again thirty minutes later. He’s awake at the first trill, mind already racing as his itinerary for the day speeds through his mind. Steve spends these thirty minutes peacefully holding Eddie in his arms as they brace for the day. Or well, he does because Eddie never wakes to the first alarm, his heavy snores blocking out everything but Steve’s touch and his dreams.
A bleary eye will peel open at the second blasting. Eddie’s glare lightened by the pile of curls on his head and the way he wiggles closer to Steve. “Five more minutes?” he says, syllables barely distinguishable.
And Steve agrees.
Eddie could ask Steve to fall off the edge of the world and Steve would do it, would sacrifice his own body if it meant Eddie would be happy, alive, and safe.
So he sets a timer for five minutes, then another five that Eddie deems necessary and is exclusively dedicated to their good morning kiss.
It’s arguably the best ten minutes of his day.
“We have to get up,” Steve says, heavy limbs pulling away with the stubbornness of an elephant.
Eddie whines, but pulls away to grab his pajama pants off the floor. “Why must you have a grown-up job?”
Steve shrugs and quickly heads to his dresser for his gym clothes.
They go through the motions – Steve goes for a quick run while Eddie smokes on the porch and takes languid sips of his coffee. He’ll slip inside as Steve turns back onto the street so the shower will be nice and warm by the time Stve makes it to the bathroom. Gentle hands scrub through thick hair, dragging washcloths over sud-lathered skin, all followed by sweet kisses. Okay, Steve may have lied; this is the best ten minutes of his day.
While Steve finishes getting ready, Eddie makes a quick breakfast (usually just toasting bagels with whatever spread strikes his fancy that day and cutting up whatever fruit they have). They share their plans between bites as their free hands map out one another. Eddie doesn’t work for another few hours, so he’ll go back to sleep (even though he claims to be up for the day) but this means his fingers are still bare except for the matching band they both wear. Steve never misses a chance to feel those fingers against his.
And then it's time for him to leave and Steve realizes it’s not Eddie’s fault. It’s his own. Because as he stands there, bag in hand and his shoes on, Steve wants to throw a tantrum and crawl back into bed with Eddie. He wants to be unreasonable and never leave their bed, ever, for any reason.
“I love you,” Steve says against Eddie’s lips, between kisses.
Eddie hums as he kisses him. “I love you. You’ve got to go,” he whispers.
“I don’t want to.”
“You’ll be home quicker if you go,” Eddie says.
“But that means leaving now.”
Eddie laughs softly as he kisses along Steve’s jaw. “I have to leave in a few hours, too. You wouldn’t want to be by yourself, would you, baby?”
Steve sighs, but relents as he kisses Eddie one more time.
All in all, Steve walks out of the door at 8:29am. One minute to spare.
Steve drives the twenty minutes to work knowing he’ll barely beat his first client and Marnie is sure to give him hell for it. He doesn’t let it bother him, instead blaring the mixtape he made with Robin a few summers ago. It’s hard to care about appointments and being on time when his lips still tingle from Eddie’s kiss and Eddie’s aftershave and cologne still lingers in his nose.
He’s floating on a cloud as he makes his way to work.
And when someone asks them what time Steve starts in the morning, no matter the reason, Eddie will confidently say 9:00 am.
Who is Steve to correct him?
He walks through the lobby of the practice to Marnie’s icy glare. Steve just smiles and wishes her good morning. She’ll like him again come lunch, he’s sure of it. And if not? Oh well.

Note
I am in an awkward position. It had started when my parents had arranged my marriage as part of a contract. I learnt of this about six months ago when on the morning of my thirtieth birthday, I opened the front door to head to my parent’s for a family lunch, only to run into the wedding parties.
Now, I understand arranged marriages still happen, and it can be ‘healthy’ when those involve have agency. Though in my case there are some factors. For starters, no one had told me, which I think would have been needed when I had first gotten married five years back (widowed now). Two, it seemed my parents had arranged this as they had gotten certain… payments, which did explain certain things. And thirdly, they had arranged more than one marriage for me.
So it was a bit awkward going to my parents place with my son and my nine (9) new partners, especially with even them having not been informed that I had been ‘promised’ to others. And to add insult to injury, the ‘contracts’ don’t exclude multiple marriages which I was told my parents had suggested on some guise or other, when really just so they get more ‘dowry’. Which ironically had to then go into buying a new residence as my then current flat couldn’t accommodate *Deep breath* Highlands Minotaur, Mediterranean Sharkmer, Siberian Orc Chief, Oni warrior, American Wereboar, Vampiric Lord, Djinn Librarian, Cerberi Guard (though they have three heads and different personalities, they say are one), The Prince of the Arslani Giants, Bringer of the Sun and Vanquisher of the Old One nonamehere (He insisted I include his full title), and two sapios (me and my son).
My partners(?) were at least understanding helping send the marriage documents to a family solicitor. Unfortunately, the marriages can’t be annulled for some time due to a variety of intrinsic rituals, oaths to unknowable entities, and vague languages making them legally air tight. Because it seemed despite not being aware of the other, each contract effectively patches potential loopholes in another. And I doubt anyone here wants me to try and kick off the apocalypse since that is one of the few methods which can null all contracts. Still have to sort out guardianship for my son, as I’m sure you can guess my parents are no longer an option.
Now, this isn’t the thing I need advice with, though if you have any suggestions for a good gift I wouldn’t say no, as I’m sure this paradoxical Gordian Knot will haunt my lawyer’s nightmare for the remainder of her days.
Nor did I send this simply to vent, I have been doing that with my friends and cousins. Although, I assume you wouldn’t try to joke saying ‘At least you don’t have to worry about the dating market”, or offer me a book for my toddler called “Daddy, Papa, Pops, Pater, Dada, Baba, Papi, Bo, Chichi, Missieri, and Me”.
I am more asking for advice on… well, is it appropriate that I really like them.
I mean, sure the move and circumstances weren’t ideal. And it’s not easy for ten adults and one kid in the same home with everyone having different sleep schedules, dietary restrictions, physical requirements and cultural clashes. I still have mornings where I wake up and think there’s an earthquake happening before my sleep deprived brain remembers the size of certain partners who decide to go for morning jogs. Or that I have to triple check food in the fridges as blood sausages safe for me to eat are different to those that others eat and vice versa. Or how most electronics are sequestered to an office room due to their thaumaturgically reactions.
But these minor annoyances don’t really stay on mind when having long talks at night, discussing things like who’ll be doing pick up from daycare tomorrow. How we’ll be complaining to each other about rubbish coworkers and the council changing trash pick up days whilst preparing dinner. The headed debates on origins of certain feasts and whose pack fought whose coven. Even the relaxed silence when not commenting on the sudden disappearance of a Neo-Nazi who showed up in town a few days ago and how there seemed to be suddenly more blood and offal based foods in the fridges.
We have gotten to… i guess dating, a bit weird since we are married, and even gotten rather intimate (I will not elaborate). But still, I worry if I am leading them on considering the circumstances and how we had been looking to get the marriages annulled, or that most had basically upended their own lives to move here so I’m not sure if right to just kick them out. Not to mention my son, since they have been good with him over the past months and I worry about the loss of a support system.
It’s just… I worry a bit that I am just overthinking this all. Am I?
(Sorry so long, just realised
Goodness me, reader. You certainly have a lot on your plate! I'm very glad to hear that you're sharing your feelings with friends and venting to them as necessary. Everyone involved seems to be handling the situation about as well as can be expected. Apart from your parents, of course, who sound, if you don't mind my saying, like a pair of quite astonishingly inconsiderate grifters.
I don't think you're overthinking things, either. This would be a tricky enough situation even if there were not a child at the centre of it. As it is, I think it only right that you should want to consider your options before embarking on a course of action that could disrupt your son's happiness and well-being.
That said, I am struggling to see the real downsides here. You say you've already started dating your partners, and shared some intimate time with them. They sound a kind and caring bunch, who respect you and your son. And you all seem to be enjoying life together.
If I am reading your letter correctly, it sounds as if the biggest problem here is overcoming societal norms and expectations around what a family “should” look like. Yes, you are all already married. Yes, you are trying to annul those marriages. But that is only a matter of paperwork and technicality.
The relationships you have with each of your partners, and which they have with each other and with your son, are not binary states to be decided based on whether or not a contract somewhere says you are bound to one another. They are living, growing, organic connections between real, complicated people, and need to be treated as such.
The circumstances that brought you all together are certainly… unusual. But what does that signify, as long as you are enjoying the relationships you're developing together? Similarly, there's no reason you can't at once want to get your marriages annulled, and want to keep living together and exploring what life together might look like.
Ultimately, this isn't an issue that can be solved by worrying about it. You need to talk to your partners and hear their feelings on the issue. But please, don't be constrained by old-fashioned, ill-fitting ideas of how you “ought” to behave. There is no reason you can't have your cake (annulment) and eat it (sleep with all 9 of your heroic demi-god partners at once)

Yeah the part two would mainly focus on the town's folks first interactions with the twins and their PokĂŠmon. Most would be completely made up since we haven't fully seen everyones take on them.
Potentially interactions were:
Pierre's hostile first meeting the twins and their starter, he places a 'no PokĂŠmon allowed' sign on the door because he's subtle. (He also hints that all PokĂŠmon were driven out by removing all berry plants when they try to buy berries)
Harvey being a good person but they mistake his friendliness as professionalism, he falls in love with Klinklang.
Emmet and Durant mets Sebastian out on a walk, it is painfully awkward. Sebastian thinks a giant metal ant is cool.
Jas and Vincent sneak into the railway. They met Archeops and call her a turkey since she's 'too big to be a chicken'.
OK I've realised I actually have alot more scenarios then I first thought (I have four-five more tucked away) so that part two is actually possible.
Most of the people are just awkward around the twins and their PokĂŠmon but the few who are hostile kinda warp their views on things.
Fun fact: in the drafts of the fic, the scene between Lewis and the twins was called 'Lewis pulls some petty manager-esque BS to bully Train Boys into not fucking up his train station'.
Oh god Pierre. Step aside Morris we might have a new main antagonist lol
For Harvey, we were thinking that he isn't opposed to PokĂŠmon exactly, just more concerned about the health risks they pose. The twins themselves aren't the healthiest people (Emmet collapses from overwork in his 2-heart event....) and they're a bit out of the norm even among other PokĂŠmon trainers. He's worried for them and they find a mutual annoyance between Harvey's nagging and the twins' stubbornness. Here's their checkup dialogue! Ingo is haunted and Emmet is immune to paralysis due to prolonged exposure. They're fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harvey and Klinklang would be cute though, I haven't considered that!! It fits well since we were thinking that Maru would adore Klinklang too... We were thinking that Maru would be the one to look into getting better Pokemon healthcare in Stardew Valley (with the help of Marnie, since they're essentially animals)... the hospital nerds and Klinklang!
And oh god..... Emmet and Sebastian..... man do I have thoughts on that. Any interaction would definitely be awkward between them and quite possibly end in disaster. I know a few people want to see Emmet and Sebastian together but outside of both of them being the "rude but really just socially inept" type, I think they would clash. Since the twins are on good terms with Maru because she watches over the pokemon for research(/babysitting), Sebastian might be bitter towards them out of association, the twins themselves would feel sorry for Maru for having her brother hate her for no reason of her own. The twins support each other and push each other to be the best they can be, they're inseparable (or at least... shouldn't be separated...) and the thought of their sibling hating them terrifies them. I wouldn't say that they have a healthy relationship since they're a bit dependent on each other, being a two-car train and all.
Ingo would dislike Sebastian for being a bad big brother, and Emmet would dislike him for how ungrateful he is for the people in his life; Emmet's distaste would be stronger though. Along with being terrible to Maru, Sebastian's relationships with his friends would also raise red flags for Emmet (poor guy has trust issues and a low tolerance for that kind of thing). Sam and Abigail both favor Sebastian, but Sebastian has lines about not really seeing Abigail as a friend and thinking that Sam is clingy/annoying to hang out with. Emmet is a little insecure about being the lesser-liked twin and an outcast, he's lonely and while he doesn't bother with faking courtesy like Ingo, he is still verrrry grateful for anyone who isn't deterred by him for whatever reason that may be. Emmet is also a bit clingy with the few people who do win his trust and would probably make Sebastian feel bad for being a bad friend. Emmet and Sebastian are opposites in a conflicting way.
Here's some dialogue made super early on referencing how Sebastian visits the Railroad in his schedules:

Sebastian has a line about how he used to like trains when he was younger too, but it's very distant and angsty, like much of his reflections. He'd probably think of the twins being passionate about their special interest in trains to be a little cringe.... they would think he's cringe for not liking trains as much as them. I feel like they would project a bit and see each other as a reminder of their insecurities so.... they would not be good being together for too long.
Sebastian taking an interest in Durant would be interesting though..... Durant and Excadrill in this mod are drafted to have a henchman and mafia boss dynamic with each other and are always getting into trouble together so maybe he'd enable their shenanigans.
We do have a bit about Jas and Vincent liking Pokemon too! They'd love Archeops since he's basically an extra big and colorful chicken... the kids and Evelyn are the three people who aren't initially deterred by Pokemon, they get used to it for the most part later though.
And LOL love that. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I have always said that as a survivalist or prepper have to have to have the capacity to read between the lines. My first reaction to the Ferret was " I usually wanted someone to vacuum my floors." Yeah, I'm sure they get that all the time. But that's kind of what it looks like; it is, indeed, a low profile disc-shaped thing that glides around on ground -- that may be where the similarity to cleaning products ends.

Chevrolet Volt the actual of the pioneer plug in hybrid electric vehicle concept cars. Honda first released Insight in the season 1999. These were the first car maker to offer hybrid electric car in the us. This model has gained a little popularity in the first 5 years that this had on marketplace. Honda Insight Hybrid https://storage.googleapis.com/biglink/vfe38vinfastsaigon/uncategorized/cars-moving-to-three5873.html was an atmosphere friendly brand name. Aside from being fuel efficient, has been made in order to very low emission. Had been an earlier version of such a model ended up being released in Japan and Los Angeles in 1997. Belated recap because I was eepy this afternoon
Y'know, I'll take a series split. Would've been nice to win Tuesday, but I kinda had Wednesday pre-marked as a loss (sorry Varland, but. yeah). This stretch of running out the triple A roster with predictable results would feel a lot worse if every other team in the top half of the AL wasn't also tripping over themselves at the moment.
Pablo and the back end of the pen pitched great, as we've come to expect. It truly can't be overstated how big Pablo's season turnaround has been for us, with our Jenga tower of a rotation, having a stopper like him every five days is so important. Festa looked good too, just got let down by the offense not for the first time. And shoutout to the bullpen Monday, covering Sim's short start and getting out of a ton of jams in a classic Twins/Rays one-run game.
Man I wish we were able to snag someone like Odorizzi in minor league free agency, or that DeSclafani's arm hadn't fallen off in spring training, that way I wouldn't have to watch an obviously non-starter-caliber Varland or a very very rushed Matthews every five days. But, y'know. Just make it to the playoffs and pitching depth matters a lot less. And our potential 2025 rotation is shaping up to be pretty exciting.
Julien finally remembered how to hit home runs 🎉 It was a good series for our lefties overall with the homers from Larnach and Wallner too, and DaShawn Keirsey Jr's way overdue debut (the trials of being a lefty OF in the Twins org lmao). Overall the offense continues to struggle, but they scraped enough across to take two wins.
We're not gonna talk about the defense on Wednesday. This team needs Correa and Buxton so badly, and the likelihood/imminence of either continues to be not great. On the moral victory side, if any other AL playoff team was missing its two best hitters, they would probably not be hanging on as well as we are. With the exception of Kyle Tucker, Giancarlo Stanton, and very recently Vinnie Pasquantino, every other AL contender has had all its top hitters healthy all season, but here we are in the thick of it anyway.
This Royals series is gonna be tough. We haven't played well at the K late in the season (as in getting swept by much worse Royals teams the last two years), and as demonstrated tonight the pitching matchups aren't great for our already struggling offense. But we're still in a good spot, just need to stay afloat and have that haterism on tap when scoreboard watching.

We see Raphael's love being described as obsessive and manic and honestly that's the reason why I think Chris suits him so well because Chris' love is ALSO obsessive and manic, they literally match each other's energy. Chris (at his unhealthiest) literally strives to OWN the person he's interested in and so does Raphael, they'd be carving each other's names on their bodies with a knife if they'd be allowed to but they won't be, that's the catch here. The rest of us want them to have something that at least resembles a healthy relationship so they're gonna have to tone it down on the manic obsession and actually set some boundaries that are more or less healthy for both of them. For starters they're gonna have to actually communicate their honest feelings to one another and work through conflicts as a team – it's the two of them against the problem, not against each other, y'know? Chris grew a lot as a person this past year so he did in fact learn how to control himself/his possessiveness and jealousy, he managed to straighten out all of his current relationships and stabilized his previously very chaotic love life to a point where everything works like a well-oiled machine. So on his part, Chris is approaching this relationship from a very healthy starting point, healthier than he's ever been since he first formed over five years ago. Raphael however is still kinda.... not-okay. Like. VERY not-okay. He's a newer formation and still has all that baggage he didn't even begin to sort through so I won't be surprised if his views on this relationship/its potential are kinda not-okay too. Granted, he's part of the current fronting team and is generally considered to be "stable" so he's not exactly at his absolute worst, but he could definitely be doing better.
Did Chris magically become a good person and lose ALL of his negative qualities and less-than-appealing quirks and worldviews? Absolutely not, but he IS doing better emotionally and mentally. He's a recovering Persecutor and there is still work left to be done when it comes to him, he JUST started healing, but he's showing to have made a considerable amount of progress overall and he is definitely different from how he was last September. I'm sure that if Raphael will let him then Chris will happily steer him in a better direction and that the two of them can make one Hell of a power couple if they manage to actually work together and listen to the rest of us when needed.

Preface
April 4th, 2024
For starters, I am not completely destitute. This blog is mostly for me to keep track of my progress. I have a degree of security in regard to housing, a little bit of money left, and things to sell if it comes down to it. On the more personal side, my girlfriend is great, my family is supportive, and I have a good group of friends. Physically, I am starting from absolutely nothing. Years of prescription ADHD medication and both a sedentary work and home life have left me skinny-fat. Not to a terrible degree, but it's definitely not healthy. I'd ideally like to get in fighting shape or maybe play hockey in a beer league.
As far as the Church goes, I haven't been to Mass since Ash Wednesday of 2020, which I believe was the last day before the lockdowns. There's not really any good reason for being separated for so long. I haven't lost faith at all. I pray almost constantly and observe certain things from the convenience of my home (abstinence, fasting, etc.). It comes down to fear of confession and repetition of sins. Easy fix, but it feels like a big hurdle. Half of you will understand and the other half will pretend not to.
I worked in the office of a steel warehouse for five years before abruptly leaving to get away from a micromanaging bitch boss. From there, I started working at a hip, millennial logistics company that fancied itself some kind of Silicon Valley tech startup. I was fired from there after a couple of months for reasons that remain unclear. I took notes and was honestly good at the job, given the short amount of time I was there. I think it had more to do with not fitting in than anything. Since there was no break between those two jobs, the 'vacation' was welcome at first. I didn't even really start applying for works until about a month in, and even then, it was fairly casual, thinking that because it was so easy to find another job before, it would be the same this time around. Well, it's been entirely unfruitful so far, and I'm frantically looking for work. lmao Luckily, the last place paid really well, so I was able to squirrel a lot of money (relatively) away in a very short amount of time and take care of my bills for a couple of months.
I haven't had health insurance in several months, so I haven't been able to get my meds. This is a good thing, as they were the cause of a lot of problems in my life. It was one of those "I'll quit tomorrow" situations for literally years. They made my anxiety unmanageable, I would drink a lot more on them, smoke/vape/Zyn, and sit on my phone all day when not working. The anxiety and behavioral changes were causing problems in other areas of my life too. They're no good for relationships, be it romantic, familial, whatever. Being off of them is one of the best things that's happened to me, and I won't be taking them on a regular basis ever again. Being off them, it was an immediate 180°. There's still a lot of anxiety, but it's under control. I drink like a normal person now (maybe ever other week or so with my friends) and have no desire to use nicotine, despite smoking since I was fourteen. I feel active. I'm working out. I feel like a cat in a canary shop. Life is pretty good, all things considered, and this is the happiest I've been in a long time. Maybe the secret to true happiness is being a lazy bum after all.
Anyway, this blog is going to be my diary for all intents and purposes. Chime in with any workout advice or opinions on anything. Alongside my ramblings and progress notes, I'll do reviews of pipe tobacco, cologne, booze, music, etc. to keep it interesting.

you know, i've been thinking abt creative and artistic pursuits and like. Jobs and shit recently. (working a dead-end customer service job will do that do a gal.) and at the risk of doing my favorite thing, which is belaboring a metaphor, i've also been thinking abt reintroduction of wolves.
see, when they reintroduced wolves to yellowstone national park, it changed the course of the yellowstone river. that's the short version, anyway - the reality is a much longer process of ecological restoration that, for the most part, to my understanding, happened largely on its own. wolves reintroduced = better regulated deer and elk populations through natural predation = increased growth of wetland plants that high desert ungulates like to snack upon = better habitat for beavers and such/more robust plants to hold dirt in place in the face of water in transit = changed course of river. as someone who knows Fuck All about ecology or wildlife biology, i'm probably getting a bunch of that wrong, but it's fun to think abt. wolves changing the course of a river.
(stay with me here, this is the metaphor part.)
i don't think any human being on earth would ascribe such habitat changing effects to one single wolf. that would be silly! it was many wolves, over the course of a number of seasons, in conjunction with many other factors. it's not like the wolves set out to change the course of the river, or regulate the riparian habitat of yellowstone, or even manage the local elk population back to healthy levels. wolves were just Doing What They Do! goin about their days! and it terraformed a whole habitat!
i've wanted to write books since i was little. i'm also not very good at writing! i can string sentences together, i can even manage a pleasing turn of phrase or two, but when it comes to the structural elements that make a book enjoyable to read? pacing, plot structure, character motivation? to say nothing of themes? themes? fuck me, i'm terrible at it! but as i've explored a dozen different career options (archaeologist, paralegal, museum historian, etc.) it's the only thing i can see myself doing as a career in the long term. which, when you know you're not good at something, is a discouraging predicament to be in, let me tell you.
and when you tell people that you want to write books, they always jump to the new york times. "got a bestseller in the works, do you?" they ask, with a wide range of tones between earnest-if-blind-approval and asking-your-five-year-old-niece-if-she's-going-to-the-olympics. and like. not everyone can be a bestseller. for starters, there's a whole discussion about marketing and advance capital and the buy-in of the publishing industrial complex and corporate bookstores because let's face it, if you don't have amazon or b&n or both in your corner from the start it's an uphill slog, but there's also just. the reality of large numbers. only a few are going to hit that list. and that's okay.
as a public historian, you learn to think about the physical reality of archives. certain things get saved. others do not. whether that's because of conscious choices or limited space or the inherent frailty of material objects in the face of time (and don't think digital archives are immune from this, either), archives are more likely than not incomplete. this is especially true of historical publishing, particularly for genre fiction or niche audiences. old comic books get so expensive because they were, in some measure, disposable. same thing with pulp fiction and dime novels and penny dreadfuls and whatever the tiktoks of their day were called for the past three hundred years. even the Highest of Literature of a given era can vanish from view for a myriad of reasons. but behind each and every work that survived, and every work that didn't, there was a person who made that. multiple people, even - someone wrote the script and someone drew and inked the panels and someone colored the panels and a whole host of people brought that 10 cent comic book to a newsstand near your great-uncle Mike's childhood home. someone wrote the novel and someone set the type and someone bound the book that you found in one of those gloriously junky antique shops, tucked between a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook and the fifteenth Nancy Drew #14 that you've seen that day.
there's an inherent drive under capitalism that a company has to beat out the competition at whatever it does, to get in front of the consumer more than anyone else to the point where you have to buy whatever they're selling. and i'm not saying that as creators, marketing is bad. if you don't tell anyone about your stuff, they're never going to read it, and we do, ultimately, create art for the consumption of others just as much as for ourselves. we want people to comment on our fanfics, to keysmash in the tags of the art we post, to compliment the sweater we spent months knitting. we want someone to put our art on the fridge and say it's pretty. that's one of those silly things that makes us human.
but for me? i've found some comfort in the idea that wolves don't have a bestseller list. (see, there's the metaphor.) wolves don't have academy awards for the best elk takedown. they just do what they do, because it's a biological imperative. you don't have to write The Best Sci-Fi Novel Ever. you don't have to painstakingly hand-animate The Best Short Film Every Produced. the things you make can just be things. do your best, sure, but out of respect for yourself and your art form, not out of fear or envy of someone else's work.
i grew up with a saying in fan spaces that boiled down to "two cakes," referencing a cartoon where someone brought a cake to a buffet and found that someone had already brought a more elaborately decorated cake. the second panel is of a different person, looking with delight at the buffet, exclaiming, "holy shit! two cakes!" your work of art doesn't need to be so breathtakingly original and different and exquisitely crafted that it's impossible to create. (caveat: obviously, don't plagiarize someone else's work. it's rude, and you're cheating yourself out of the opportunity to make your own art.) but it's okay to just contribute to the ecosystem. not everything has to be the next Pride and Prejudice, or the next Legend of Zelda. make something that you enjoy, that speaks to the person you are now, in this moment, and share that with people.
your ecosystem will be better for you being there.

Plotting
It was only a few minutes until the big playoff game began. I was on the left side of the court shooting the ball to warm up my arms when the clock rang, signaling the teams to go to their respective benches. I gave each of my teammates high-fives and some words of encouragement on the bench. As the starters were announced for each team I had a smile on my face as I was ready to defeat our competition. This is the moment that we had prepared for all season. Both teams made their way to the center court for tipoff. As the ball went up a feeling of reassurance filled me, I had finally found my confidence. I started the game with a three-point bucket in the corner and came down the next play with a reverse layup. The scoring didn’t stop there, my team quickly gained a ten-point lead after the first quarter. This was the best we had played all season, each person on our team played their role effectively. But, it was obvious that I was the glue that kept everything together.
It was halfway through the second quarter when everything came to a halt. I was running down the court at full speed when a girl on the other team intentionally pushed me down. I had suffered a concussion and was bleeding from my forehead because of the impact. Our team shot two technical foul free throws and had the girl who pushed me ejected from the game. This didn’t stop me from supporting my team, I was restricted to the bench and could only cheer. This was the turning point in the game. Quickly the other team grew a lead which didn’t falter. Although we tried and had the win in our palms a dirty play caused us to lose our composure resulting in a victory for the other team.
Situation 1: Being healthy and having the ability to win the game
Change: Dirty play resulting in me being out the rest of the game
New situation: Staying on the bench, supporting the team

How roboticists are thinking about generative AI
The topic of generative AI comes up frequently in my newsletter, Actuator. I admit that I was a bit hesitant to spend more time on the subject a few months back. Anyone who has been reporting on technology for as long as I have has lived through countless hype cycles and been burned before. Reporting on tech requires a healthy dose of skepticism, hopefully tempered by some excitement about what can be done.
This time out, it seemed generative AI was waiting in the wings, biding its time, waiting for the inevitable cratering of crypto. As the blood drained out of that category, projects like ChatGPT and DALL-E were standing by, ready to be the focus of breathless reporting, hopefulness, criticism, doomerism and all the different KĂźbler-Rossian stages of the tech hype bubble.
Those who follow my stuff know that I was never especially bullish on crypto. Things are, however, different with generative AI. For starters, there’s a near universal agreement that artificial intelligence/machine learning broadly will play more centralized roles in our lives going forward.
Smartphones offer great insight here. Computational photography is something I write about somewhat regularly. There have been great advances on that front in recent years, and I think many manufacturers have finally struck a good balance between hardware and software when it comes to both improving the end product and lowering the bar of entry. Google, for instance, pulls off some truly impressive tricks with editing features like Best Take and Magic Eraser.
Sure, they’re neat tricks, but they’re also useful, rather than being features for features’ sake. Moving forward, however, the real trick will be seamlessly integrating them into the experience. With ideal future workflows, most users will have little to no notion of what’s happening behind the scenes. They’ll just be happy that it works. It’s the classic Apple playbook.
Generative AI offers a similar “wow” effect out the gate, which is another way it differs from its hype cycle predecessor. When your least-tech-savvy relative can sit at a computer, type a few words into a dialogue field and then watch as the black box spits out paintings and short stories, there isn’t much conceptualizing required. That’s a big part of the reason all of this caught on as quickly as it did — most times when everyday people get pitched cutting-edge technologies, it requires them to visualize how it might look five or 10 years down the road.
With ChatGPT, DALL-E, etc., you can experience it firsthand right now. Of course, the flip side of this is how difficult it becomes to temper expectations. Much as people are inclined to imbue robots with human or animal intelligence, without a fundamental understanding of AI, it’s easy to project intentionality here. But that’s just how things go now. We lead with the attention-grabbing headline and hope people stick around long enough to read about machinations behind it.
Spoiler alert: Nine times out of 10 they won’t, and suddenly we’re spending months and years attempting to walk things back to reality.
One of the nice perks of my job is the ability to break these things down with people much smarter than me. They take the time to explain things and hopefully I do a good job translating that for readers (some attempts are more successful than others).
Once it became clear that generative AI has an important role to play in the future of robotics, I’ve been finding ways to shoehorn questions into conversations. I find that most people in the field agree with the statement in the previous sentence, and it’s fascinating to see the breadth of impact they believe it will have.
For example, in my recent conversation with Marc Raibert and Gill Pratt, the latter explained the role generative AI is playing in its approach to robot learning:We have figured out how to do something, which is use modern generative AI techniques that enable human demonstration of both position and force to essentially teach a robot from just a handful of examples. The code is not changed at all. What this is based on is something called diffusion policy. It’s work that we did in collaboration with Columbia and MIT. We’ve taught 60 different skills so far.
Last week, when I asked Nvidia’s VP and GM of Embedded and Edge Computing Deepu Talla why the company believes generative AI is more than a fad, he told me:I think it speaks in the results. You can already see the productivity improvement. It can compose an email for me. It’s not exactly right, but I don’t have to start from zero. It’s giving me 70%. There are obvious things you can already see that are definitely a step function better than how things were before. Summarizing something’s not perfect. I’m not going to let it read and summarize for me. So, you can already see some signs of productivity improvements.
Meanwhile, during my last conversation with Daniela Rus, the MIT CSAIL head explained how researchers are using generative AI to actually design the robots:It turns out that generative AI can be quite powerful for solving even motion planning problems. You can get much faster solutions and much more fluid and human-like solutions for control than with model predictive solutions. I think that’s very powerful, because the robots of the future will be much less roboticized. They will be much more fluid and human-like in their motions. We’ve also used generative AI for design. This is very powerful. It’s also very interesting, because it’s not just pattern generation for robots. You have to do something else. It can’t just be generating a pattern based on data. The machines have to make sense in the context of physics and the physical world. For that reason, we connect them to a physics-based simulation engine to make sure the designs meet their required constraints.
This week, a team at Northwestern University unveiled its own research into AI-generated robot design. The researchers showcased how they designed a “successfully walking robot in mere seconds.” It’s not much to look at, as these things go, but it’s easy enough to see how with additional research, the approach could be used to create more complex systems.
“We discovered a very fast AI-driven design algorithm that bypasses the traffic jams of evolution, without falling back on the bias of human designers,” said research lead Sam Kriegman. “We told the AI that we wanted a robot that could walk across land. Then we simply pressed a button and presto! It generated a blueprint for a robot in the blink of an eye that looks nothing like any animal that has ever walked the earth. I call this process ‘instant evolution.’”
It was the AI program’s choice to put legs on the small, squishy robot. “It’s interesting because we didn’t tell the AI that a robot should have legs,” Kriegman added. “It rediscovered that legs are a good way to move around on land. Legged locomotion is, in fact, the most efficient form of terrestrial movement.”
“From my perspective, generative AI and physical automation/robotics are what’s going to change everything we know about life on Earth,” Formant founder and CEO Jeff Linnell told me this week. “I think we’re all hip to the fact that AI is a thing and are expecting every one our jobs, every company and student will be impacted. I think it’s symbiotic with robotics. You’re not going to have to program a robot. You’re going to speak to the robot in English, request an action and then it will be figured out. It’s going to be a minute for that.”
Prior to Formant, Linnell founded and served as CEO of Bot & Dolly. The San Francisco-based firm, best known for its work on Gravity, was hoovered up by Google in 2013 as the software giant set its sights on accelerating the industry (the best-laid plans, etc.). The executive tells me that his key takeaway from that experience is that it’s all about the software (given the arrival of Intrinsic and Everyday Robots’ absorption into DeepMind, I’m inclined to say Google agrees).

5 Health Benefits of Eating Quinoa Regularly
Quinoa is often hailed as a superfood due to its numerous health benefits. Here are five key health advantages of including quinoa in your diet:
Complete Protein Source: Quinoa is rich in all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein source. This is particularly beneficial for vegetarians and vegans who may have difficulty obtaining all essential amino acids from plant-based foods alone. Protein is essential for muscle repair, growth, and overall body function.
High in Nutrients: Quinoa is packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, potassium, iron, and B vitamins. These nutrients play vital roles in maintaining healthy bones, muscles, and cardiovascular health, as well as supporting energy production and immune function.
Rich in Fibre: Quinoa is an excellent source of dietary fibre, which aids digestion, helps regulate blood sugar levels, and promotes a feeling of fullness, making it beneficial for weight management. High-fibre diets are also associated with a reduced risk of various chronic diseases.
Gluten-Free: Quinoa is naturally gluten-free, making it a safe and nutritious option for individuals with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. It can be used as a versatile substitute for grains like wheat, barley, or rye in a variety of recipes.
Antioxidant Properties: Quinoa contains a range of antioxidants, such as quercetin and kaempferol, which have anti-inflammatory and disease-fighting properties. Consuming antioxidants can help protect cells from oxidative damage and reduce the risk of chronic diseases, including heart disease and certain types of cancer.
Incorporating quinoa into your diet can be a delicious and nutritious way to reap these health benefits and enhance your overall well-being.
