MOTO GP Coming to Lombok

Indonesia is all ready to host a world-class racing event - MotoGP 2021; so, get ready to witness the hidden gem of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) - Lombok, which is a popular tourist destination located just a short flight away from Bali.

Let’s take a closer look at its preparation and everything that is cooking underway to make our MotoGP experience unforgettable; starting from the video of Mandalika circuit, shared by the organizers.

Just look at the grandeur layout, geography, and the architecture of the track, it is reported that 40% of the circuit has been developed and expected to complete by October 2020, which will be right on the coastline of the island.

2021 MotoGP Race Lombok

Indonesia has secured a deal with Dorna Sports’ MotoGP for the 2021 slot for the first time after more than two decades; the country has hosted two consecutive MotoGP stints in West Java back in 1996 and 97.

The Indonesian government has high hopes for the much-delayed return of MotoGP and considered a boost for the country’s international profile. Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) estimated that the seating capacity would be around 100,000+; the expected profit of IDR1 trillion would pool-in directly.

Talking about the racing track, which will be 4.32 kilometers long, encompassing 18 turns and a main straight path, a paddock area with 40 garages, VIP suites for more than 7,500 people. Not only this, but the Mandalika circuit will also going to be unique in providing a breathtaking view of the lagoons, golf course, Indian ocean, solar-powered villages, and some urban and commercial buildings.

The five day MotoGP event will be broadcasted to 60 television channels across two hundred countries. MotoGP is a popular sporting event among locals; it is expected that the game will inspire locals and (probably) many Indonesian racers to debut in the race.

What else in Lombok?

Being one of the emerging destinations of Asia and an alternative to Bali, Lombok is blessed with clear blue waters and beautiful beaches - perfect for surfers and divers. Tourists would love the sunny days and temperatures, which ranges between 21-33C in this untouched tropical paradise.

The only concerning aspect of Lombok which will raise eyebrows is its accommodation facilities, which is already very limited, keeping the numbers of expected spectators. Yes, you are thinking right, making a prior booking is a good idea, but there’s already a shortage of beds on that side of that island. It means the heavy investment is a dire need of an hour.

Anyway, before sharing the jists of racers, let me share some rumors revolving around MotoGP 2021.

Rumors Speculating around MotoGP 2021 Grid

The 2020 MotoGP World Championship season is due in the next year, but the pieces of the puzzle, especially in Marc Marquez’s case, have started falling into exact places as rider managers have started to earn their keep by getting their best deals. The main reason for this earlier placement is the vultures (Ducati) who were circling around Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales and Fabio Quartararo, to act neck-to-neck.

Of course, we all know that Yamaha is under stress of losing its young, talented riders and as well the tough decision of nudging the Italian legend - Valentino Rossi, aside for the future of the team.

One more rider -Tito Rabat, nailed down for MotoGP 2021, signing for two more years with Avintia Ducati, means we will see him till the end of 2021.

MotoGP 2021 Racers’ Status

Honda

l Marc Marquez is re-signing for Honda.

l Cal Crutchlow is expected to retire by the end of this year, opening new holes for Honda to invest in some new talent.

l Takaaki Nakagami will take up a team lead role.

l Augusto Fernandez or someone like Jake Dixon is expected to be a new entrant.

Yamaha

l Franco Morbidelli will keep his ride alongside Rossi if he continues.

l Jorge Lorenzo might be enticed to return if Rossi leaves the seat.

Suzuki

l Joan Miranda and Alex Rins are their priority to sign for 2021 and 2022; both have reportedly been approached by Ducati.

Ducati

l Ducati has the most riders on the grid.

l If both Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci exit the team, Pecco Bagnaia will be there to mesmerize the Ducati fans.

l Danilo Petrucci is expected to land in the ride next season at the expense of one or a bunch of the current riders

KTM

l Johann Zarco is no more.

l An internal reshuffle is expected, depending on how Miguel Oliveira fares on the satellite versus Brad Binder.

Aprilia

l Aleix Espargaro is not going anywhere.

l There is a prime spot next to him, even for Andrea Iannone, if he will be cleared from his drug suspension.

l One of the exciting riders - Dovizioso, seems out of favor with Dall’Igna and Petrucci, which are currently in light of Ducati’s long shopping list.
