Having a hard time getting creative juices to flow again.
Alvin managed to get a little (intro?) or something done for the next multi-fic idea.
“As Classic Alvin, I’m rambunctious and wild. I do things without considering the consequences. By the time I realize I’ve made a dumb decision, it’s too late. I’ve got a huge mess to clean up. He’s fun in the moment, but then he wallows in his regrets.
As Nerdy Alvin, I overthink everything so much that I freeze when asked to make a decision. I make too many plans. I get lost inside my own head. I hyper analyze and get fixated on learning as much as possible. I become more introverted and aloof.
I can deny it all I want. He is my “Simon” side. A part of me I didn’t realize existed until Jeanette helped me learn to control my impulses more. Though I fear she may have caused me to flip a little too far in the opposite direction.
And Alvin 2.0, he’s the best parts of both of them. He’s got the passion, the fun, the spirit, while maintaining the intellect, the expert planning skills, and the ability to think ahead. I LOVE being him. But he almost feels too…stable, sometimes. Missing that randomness and chaos a bit. Being stuck in his mindset too long also feels unnatural and uncomfortable after a while.
I don’t really want to have to choose between the three. Not permanently. There’s a time and a place for all the sides of me. I just wish I was better at judging what that time and place is. I wish I was better at matching the switch to the situation. I’m not great at it, but it’s something I’m working on.”

I have my brain’s ADHD toggle switch back!
First week back on 36 mg of Concerta (ADHD meds). I was on 18 mg, dialling it back because the office was nearly empty for a few years after the pandemic, so I… okay you don’t need to know any of that, anyway, somewhere between 18 mg and 36 mg was the threshold where it actually did anything for me. I forgot what it’s like to feel time move rhythmically, and be able to pick one sound in the room and listen to just that, or to pick one task and do it without rehearsing my next 20 tasks in my head.
I’ve really missed this.
I love being able to lean into the good things unmanaged ADHD can give me—fast ideation, wild cognitive leaps, completely nonlinear thinking—but I also love what the right meds let me do: take all the wild ideas and implement and deliver them.

All The Things That Did Not Work
I don't know how this works. I am planning to use it as a record of my struggles with ADHD management, embracing adulthood, understanding my brain, new strategies, new failures and flip-flopping between selfish navel-gazing and seeing and celebrating others.

Getting (re) diagnosed with ADHD as an adult is fucking wild, when I was a kid, I had to take this computer assessment that involved hitting the space bar any time the letter H came up on the screen by itself, among other timed/memory tests, being diagnosed as an adult was just a series of questions, like I knew I had unmanaged ADHD but I thought being "tested" for it was more in depth than what my psychiatrist did for me.
Anyway, the point of this post is to say that one of my previously used medications (circa 2003) now actually works for me, whereas it did not way back when.
The dosage may still need to be adjusted, but like, I can actually do stuff without adhd-ing all over the place??? Brilliant.

The constant presence
somewhere a murder is happening
a club is calling last call
a person is deciding to terminate a relationship
a flower opens in the retina of a new love
a child is born
the phone backs up to cloud
the os checks if it’s online
a solar flare hits the skies in Northern Alaska
a sluice gate shuts
a human reviews computation
a puzzle engages hyperfocus
the human reviews the synapse
microtubials form localized coherence
the nueral-synapse fires in a binary way
coherence again collapses to local non-binary coherence
the self again looks for itself
again finds nothing
billions of microtubials re-cohere in a single nueron
nuerons fire again
questions form to the human.
what centers attention?
would we want control of it if we could?
the human feels insignificantly aware
the sun rises
the blinds go up
a cat eats her breakfast
the human watches a sunrise
a sluice gate opens
a human synchronizes to global coherence
a internal voice bites their spirit
the phone synchronizes to the cloud
The OS is checks if it’s online
a human goes to bed
attention decoherence

the curse of adhd:
i will remember with absolute clarity, when the thought strikes me that i have a text to send someone, that this is the fourth time in three days i've attempted to send this specific text
i will forget, in the time it takes me to pick up my phone, that i picked it up intending to send a text
#every time#managed to actually send it today!#but also i have been reminded to post this by the fact that i just had a task to do in two different rooms just now#so i turned the light on in the room i was getting to second because my brain would go 'oh why is the light on that's weird'#and check the room and it would remind me to do the second task#in the less than five seconds between turning the light on and exiting the room#my brain went 'oh the light's on better turn that off before i leave'#and i had to manually catch myself#PLS.#adhd

Balancing Technology for ADHD in Children
Balancing Technology for ADHD Management: Benefits and Challenges
As a parent, navigating the world of ADHD with your child can feel overwhelming, especially with the ever-present influence of technology. At New Insights Behavioral Health in Connecticut, we understand the double-edged sword that technology can be for children with ADHD. It can be both a fantastic tool and a major distraction.
The Good Side of Technology
Technology isn’t all bad news. In fact, there are apps and software designed specifically for kids with ADHD. Educational programs that use visuals, interactive elements, and immediate feedback can really engage your child and make learning more fun.
There are also behavioral tracking apps that can be super helpful. These let you and your child track behaviors, moods, and progress towards goals. This can give you both valuable insights into patterns and triggers, making it easier to implement effective strategies.
Assistive technology, like speech-to-text software, can be a real game-changer for kids who struggle with writing. It allows them to articulate their thoughts without the pressure of writing everything down. Similarly, audiobooks and e-readers can make reading more accessible and enjoyable for children who find it hard to focus on traditional books.
Watch Out for the Pitfalls
But technology can also cause problems. Too much screen time can actually make ADHD symptoms worse, leading to more hyperactivity and less attention span. It is crucial to set limits on screen time each day. The temptation to multitask is strong with tech, and switching between apps, games, and other activities can really reduce focus and productivity.
Relying too much on technology for learning and organization can hinder the development of essential life skills. Striking a balance between digital tools and traditional methods is important for your child’s overall development.
Tips for Using Technology Wisely
Here are some practical tips to help your child use technology in a positive way:
Set Clear Rules: Establish rules about screen time to ensure it doesn’t interfere with sleep, physical activity, or face-to-face interactions. Screen time management apps can help enforce these limits.
Promote Educational Apps: Encourage the use of educational and organizational apps that support learning and skill development. These tools can be great for completing homework, reading, or engaging in creative activities.
Monitor Use: Regularly check on your child’s technology use to ensure it remains appropriate and beneficial. Use parental controls and maintain open communication about online activities and experiences.
Encourage Offline Activities: Promote a healthy balance between screen time and offline activities. Engage your child in physical activities, hobbies, and social interactions that don’t involve screens to help develop a well-rounded lifestyle.
Therapy and Medication Management
Therapy and medication management are crucial components of a comprehensive ADHD treatment plan. At New Insights Behavioral Health, we combine these treatments to achieve the best outcomes for children and adolescents with ADHD.
Carefully selected and monitored medications can control ADHD symptoms, while therapy provides additional tools and strategies to complement medication. This integrated approach enhances the overall effectiveness of the treatment plan, promoting better outcomes and improving your child’s quality of life.
