When it comes to JAG and the forever-expanding NCIS Universe that it begat, “It’s all connected” (if we may borrow a phrase from Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb).

A spinoff of JAG, the NCIS mothership on March 28 will crossover with its own latest offshoot, NCIS: Hawai’i, in back-to-back episodes that send Special Agents Nick Torres and Jessica Knight to the Aloha State (with a couple other NCIS cast members appearing if not going along for the ride).

NCIS: Hawai’i had its first quasi-crossover of sorts when an early episode of the freshman CBS drama revealed the role that none other than Leroy Jethro Gibbs played in nudging alone Jane Tennant’s own career as an NCIS Special Agent. But the official two-part crossover event will solidify NCIS: Hawai’i‘s place in the Extended JAG/NCIS Universe (JNCISU?).

On this special occasion, TVLine revisits many of the ways that JAG and NCIS characters have visited other CBS series (including one instance you might have forgotten about!), either in one-off or recurring guest spots, or in one- or two-way crossover events.

Which of these crossed streams/character team-ups do you most fondly recall?

JAG

NCIS‘ backdoor spinoff pilot came in the form of a JAG Season 8 two-parter, in which Special Agent Gibbs’ team investigated the murder of a lieutenant — and Commander Harmon “Harm” rabb Jr.’s possible role in it. In addition to Mark Harmon, future NCIS cast members Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and David McCallum appeared in the planted pilot, as Tony, Abby and Ducky.

In the years since, JAG characters such as Harm, Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie, Lt. Bud Roberts and Rear Admiral A.J. Chegwidden have popped up on NCIS: Los Angeles and or NCIS.

Fun fact: NBC pretty famously bailed on JAG after one season, at which point CBS “saved” the military/legal drama and eventually spun it off into a 40-season (and counting?) NCIS franchise.

NCIS

In addition to the backdoor pilot episodes that eventually sired NCIS: Los Angeles (at the end of Season 6) and NCIS: New Orleans (near the end of Season 11), NCIS has received visits from JAG characters such as Lt. Bud Roberts (played by Patrick Labyorteaux, pictured), Rear Admiral A.J. Chegwidden (John M. Jackson) and Faith Coleman (Alicia Coppola).

Next up: NCIS Hawai’i Special Agent Jane Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey) helps kick off NCIS‘ two-part crossover with its latest spinoff.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES

In addition to receiving early-on visits from NCIS‘ Abby, Tony (pictured) and Director Leon Vance, NCIS: LA in Season 3 had a two-way crossover with Hawaii Five-0‘s Danny Williams and Chin Ho Kelly (played by Scott Caan and Daniel Dae Kim), while Kensi went stag to Five-0 during its second season.

More recently, JAG leads David James Elliott and Catherine Bell reprised their roles as Harm and Mac for an arc at the end of LA’s 10th season, while John M. Jackson has thus far made a half dozen appearances as JAG‘s Chegwidden.

HAWAII FIVE-0

In addition to the aforementioned Season 2 visit from NCIS: LA‘s Kensi (who was enlisted by Joe White to review a video of John McGarrett with Governor Jameson and Wo Fat), Five-0 had a full-on two-way crossover with NCIS: Los Angeles the following season.

Five-0 also had a two-way crossover with Magnum P.I. (though neither Alex O’Loughlin nor Scott Caan were involved), and Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park and Taylor Wily once guest-starred on MacGyver as Chin Ho, Kono and Kamekona.

MACGYVER

The Season 1 episode “Flashlight” saw Mac & Co. get an assist from Hawaii Five-0‘s Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua, with Kamekona also putting in an appearance.

Also, after Five-0 had signed off, Jorge Garcia popped by MacGyver as conspiracy theorist Jerry Ortega, reuniting the actor with fellow Lost alum Henry Ian Cusick.

NCIS: NEW ORLEANS

NCIS: New Orleans during its seven-season run enjoyed visits from NCIS characters such as Ducky, former FBI agent Tobias Fornell (played by Joe Spano), CGIS Special Agent Abigail Borin (Diane Neal, pictured) and SECNAV Sarah Porter (Leslie Hope).

SCORPION

Early into Scorpion‘s freshman run, NCIS: Los Angeles front woman Linda Hunt guest-starred as Hetty Lange, who was recruited to help Walter’s team look the part as they went undercover to protect a priceless art exhibit.

MAGNUM P.I.

In addition to its two-way crossover with fellow island drama Hawaii Five-0 — which involved Meaghan Rath, Katrina Law, and Beulah Koale as Tani Rey, Quinn Liu and Junior Reigns — Magnum is no stranger to guest appearances by the likes of Kimee Balmilero as Dr. Noelani Cunha, Dennis Chun as Sgt. Duke Lukela, Taylor Wily’s Kamekona and Shawn Mokuahi Garnett’s Flippa.

NCIS: HAWAI'I

In Part 1 of the two-way crossover — airing Monday, March 28 at 9/8c and titled “Starting Over” – NCIS’ Special Agent Nick Torres (played by Wilmer Valderrama) gets invited by NCIS Special Agent Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) to come to Hawai’i, when she gets a lead on a witness from a case they worked on together.

Things I imagine happened after the JAG series finale and really hope NCIS LA will show (or at least tell) me, because I waited for more than 15 years and I deserve to know what happened.

Harm and Mac decided a date for the wedding and started the papers to legally adopt Mattie as soon as they walked out of the bar, while their friends planned the whole wedding in less than a week

They married in the hospital chapel to allow a still paralyzed Mattie to be there on the big day, and they almost cried seeing Chloe sitting on Mattie's bed asking her if she needed anything every two minutes or so and the two of them acting very sister-like. Even Sergei got back in time for the cerimony and to ask Jen out on a date. Everyone made a toast, but Chegwidden made the most beautiful and emotional one leaving every single person with their eyes in tears

The coin decided on Mac's side, so they moved to San Diego after they got full custody of Mattie. Mac got her job, Harm was super proud and supporting his wife career and decided to stay at home for some time to take care of Mattie and to help her adjuste to her new life -the doctors said she would walk again eventually, but she would need crutches all her life. Nevertheless, she gained back her mobility, even though she mostly moved on her wheelchair because walking tired her really fast. Harm bought a small plane and once a week he took Mattie to fly because he knew how much his girl missed the sky, and their father-daughter afternoon were their favorite part of the week, even when Harm came back to work after Mattie got better. Harm and Mac were there by her side every step of the way, and on Christmas after Mattie's 18th birthday her gift for them was the adoption papers already signed by her

Jen also moved to San Diego because Chegwidden wanted her to be happy with her family too, so he found a place for her in the city JAG's division. Sergei visited her every time he could, and they took their relationship slowly, but at the end he moved in with her and some years later they married and had kids, while Jen got higher and higher in the chain of command at work because she wanted to be an admiral

Mac never got a chance to have a child of her own due to her severe endometriosis, but she and Harm decided to become foster parents to help as many kids they could, and ended up adopting a couple of them. Mattie was the coolest sister ever, she never really wanted sibilings but she loved and cared about every kid who entered her home.

Despite the distance, all JAG family stood in contact. They visited when they could, especially Bud and Harriet loved to take their kids to San Diego for the sea and their friends, their kids growing up together pestering the adults with all their mischiefs. No one could ever forget the Thanksgiving dinner when James Kirk Roberts came out twice, once as gay and once as Star Wars fan, causing his father an heartbreak because being gay? Absolutely no problem, he was still Bud's beloved son. Loving Star Wars more than Star Trek especially when your namesake is the James T. Kirk? Dishonour! Luckily he still had the fantasy lover A.J. and the twins, particularly Nikki who was daddy's little geek girl, a copy of Bud with his passions and she would never betray her father choosing Star Wars over Star Trek (I'm joking btw, I'm a huge fan of both universes)

Chloe visited a lot too, usually spent all her holidays there and she had her own bedroom, and when she was older she decided to go to college in San Diego to be near her family while she studied to become a pediatric nurse. She and Mattie became sisters (the kind that bicker a lot but at the end of the day they would kill everyone who hurt the other), and Chloe was the first person after Jen Mattie came out to -but Harm and Mac always knew, they just didn't say anything waiting for her to talk to them. They became not only sisters but best friends, and Chloe was Mattie's maid of honour and godmother of her adoptive kids.

Nowadays Harm and Mac are still super in love, happily married with two good careers and a big family, but they still laugh thinking about how long it took them to come together. But at the end they did, and that's what truly matters.

Pants

A little JAG/NCIS crack fic as a Christmas present for @beatrixacs!  It’s completely ridiculous, it doesn’t make any sense, and two characters do take their pants off. You’ve been warned!  :D

"Commander Rabb, Colonel MacKenzie, this is Detective Morrison from Metro PD."

Admiral Chegwidden was gruff and direct in the introduction of his senior attorneys to the middle-aged woman standing in his office.  Her brown hair was pulled back in a tight bun, her eyes were dark and harsh, and she wore a rather sour expression that gave both Harm and Mac a bad feeling.

Detective Morrison cleared her throat and looked directly at Harm.  "Commander, I'm going to need to confiscate your pants."

Harm blinked in surprise.  "I'm sorry, ma’am, did you say my...pants?"

"They're needed as part of an ongoing investigation, Commander.  Please remove them immediately.”

Harm's eyes grew wide and he looked over at the admiral helplessly.  "Sir?"

"Commander, you heard the detective,” A.J. said unsympathetically.  “You're going to hand over your pants to Metro right now.  I don’t give a damn if you’re wearing pink boxers with purple polka dots underneath.”

"Sir, the Commander doesn't wear boxers with polka dots," Mac chimed in.

It had been an automatic response, intended to defend her partner, but as soon as the words were out of her mouth, Mac realized how incriminating it sounded.

Harm shot her a horrified look as A.J. crossed his arms over his chest and turned his gaze on Mac.  “Colonel, I didn’t realize you were so knowledgeable about the color of the commander's boxers."

Mac immediately clamped her mouth shut.  She had always claimed that Marines never backed down, but Marines also weren't stupid, so she decided that silence would be most helpful in this particular situation.

"Lose the pants, Rabb," A.J. barked.

As Harm hesitantly reached down to unbuckle his belt, it took all of Mac's Marine discipline to turn away and shield her eyes to afford her partner some modesty.

"Thank you, Commander," Detective Morrison said, folding Harm’s pants into an evidence bag and tucking them under her arm.  "I've got another stop to make at the Navy Yard this afternoon, but I’ll be in touch as soon as we find anything.”

"Detective Morrison, Metro PD," the woman introduced herself, flashing her badge at the agents in the NCIS bullpen.

The agent at the first desk to her right gave her a charming smile.  “Well, Detective Morrison from Metro PD, I’m Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo.  How can I help you today?”

"Special Agent DiNozzo," the detective addressed him.  "I'm going to need to confiscate your pants."

Tony blinked in surprise.  "I'm sorry, did you say my...pants?"

"They're needed as part of an ongoing investigation, Agent DiNozzo.  Please remove them immediately.”

“Well, usually I like to get to know a woman a little better first, but if you say so.”  With a shrug, Tony unzipped his pants and let them drop to the floor.

Detective Morrison watched his pants hit the ground and when she looked up, she caught a glimpse of his light pink boxers.  “Cute.”

Tony flashed her a grin.  “The purple polka dots drive all the ladies wild.”

“Do they?” came another inquisitive female voice from the desk across from him.

“They do, Officer David,” Tony confirmed.  He held his breath as Ziva made her way over to his desk, circling him slowly, as if she were stalking a piece of prey rather than just looking at the pattern on his boxers.

"My little hairy butt," Ziva purred.

Her favorite term of endearment turned Tony’s knees into jelly as Ziva leaned in, her breath hot against his ear – and then he yelped in surprise as she slapped the right side of his behind and gave it a hard squeeze.

"DiNozzo, what the hell are you doing?”  Gibbs’ unmistakable bark cut through the haze in Tony’s brain caused by Ziva’s hand on his backside.

"He is getting into Metro's pants, Gibbs," Ziva replied innocently.

Tony rolled his eyes at the innuendo in her use of the English language.  "Boss, my pants are needed in an investigation,” he explained.  “I was just assisting the detective with acquiring the evidence—”

"DiNozzo, put your damn pants back on.”

"I’m afraid I can’t allow that," Detective Morrison interrupted, folding Tony’s pants into an evidence bag and tucking them under her arm.  "Thank you, Special Agent DiNozzo.  I’ll be in touch as soon as we find anything.”
