Is that RYAN REYNOLDS? No, that’s CREED CALLAWAY. The FORTY-SIX year old WERELION ALPHA CISMALE is a COUNCIL MEMBER. Without a member of the Callaway pride, there’s a possibility New Haven wouldn’t exist. Their roots were planted well before the founding, as a relative was an original council member who helped scout the area for the settlement and erect the barrier that kept them safe. Felin werecreatures could be very strong-willed, stubborn, and independent, so it took someone of great character to lead them. That quality seemed inherent in the Callaways, as a Callaway has served under a council member since. Creed was the second of his pride to take up the title, even if he was doubtful.

He had a few siblings who, in his opinion, would’ve been better suited for a council position. His pride carried a noble air despite never belonging to a kingdom’s court. Creed’s older brother managed to talk him into experiencing the world outside the barrier since they were born and raised in New Haven. They stayed with a relative who lived a couple of hours outside New Haven. Humans were odd, but he wanted to learn more about their world. This free-spirited aunt suggested university, so he went.

Creed met a woman at the university cafe. They’d have similar conversations each time they met, her often acting as if she couldn’t remember him. It took a moment for the naïve werelion to realize something was off. He presented as alpha in July when he was 21 years old. He stopped attending classes and disappeared from social events. Luckily, he had a few supernatural friends on campus who could help him in many ways. The sudden voices in his head were a different story, but a vampire friend who also presented under the ghost moon helped him through the coping process.

It was in his mid-20s that he returned to his hometown. A tech project started in his sophomore year by a small group of friends, himself included, began to get noticed as they continued to make developments and was eventually purchased. Instead of the group of friends dissolving, they continued to work on various projects under the business name Animagia. It was the best way for him to stay distracted from the hum and drum of life in his small town and the loss of contact with the brother who left with him.

The constant assault he experiences from the dissonant whispers makes it nearly impossible for him to focus on anything mundane for too long that involves hearing. Half his energy is devoted to important work in his company or position on the town council. The rest of his time is lost to distraction. It is rare to see him without earpieces in both ears, headphones on his head, or earplugs. When actively focused on a conversation and listening to those around, the invasive voices could muddy what is heard. Creed isn't a fan of casual verbal conversation. He started to learn American Sign Language while at university. He relies on body language and lipreading in one-on-one conversations and isn't an active listener.

Queen Charlotte Episode 5

And almost at the end. This episode is, so far, the best I think, maybe because it felt like it had the least about Charlotte and George, and it certainly had hardly anything of Charlotte and George together as a couple.

The episode opens in the 'present day' Bridgerton universe with Lady Danbury and Violet at the opera speculating on whether the Queen has 'companionship' or not. Lady D notes that the Queen has a husband, but concedes that due to circumstances she is as much a widow as her and Violet. This is also accompanied by a VoiceOver from Lady Whistledown, again baiting the Queen.

The 'present day' scenes in this episode are heavily focussed around Violet and her loneliness, it is obvious she is missing Edmund, perhaps more than we have seen previously as her life is changing. This is illustrated through a scene showing Violet in bed alone, this moves to show the Queen in bed alone, and we have the Lady Whistledown VoiceOver talking about the Queen, the VoiceOver continues with the line 'loneliness is a battle Queens must fight for themselves' as the scene shifts to the young Queen Charlotte waking up in the middle of the night.

As well as loneliness of older woman, another theme in this epsiode, and focus, is the 'treatment' (more like torture) that the King is having to endure.

After Lord Danbury died in episode 3 we are now at his funeral, we see three of their four children present, also present is Lord Ledger and Violet. After the funeral, during the night a conversation between Lady Danbury and her maid, Cora, tells us more about her life. We learn that she was promised to her husband at the age of three, and was raised to be his wife, she was told his favourite things/foods/drinks were hers, every part of her life was about him, and she does not know how to exist without him. A line said here by lady Danbury is a call back to Season two, she says that she 'does not know how to breathe air he does not exhale', and whilst the meaning is different it echoes Violet (Edmund was the air I breathed) and Anthony (All I can breathe for is you), I thought that was an interesting contrast in the use of similar imagery. For Lady Danbury it was about not knowing anything but him, for Violet and Anthony it was about love.

We find out that Queen Charlotte is pregnant, and she writes a letter to the King for Brimsley to deliver (which he gives to Reynolds), however, when Reynolds gives it to the King his doctor tells him he isn't ready, and so the letter is placed unopened on his desk with other letters from Charlotte.

Lady Danbury receives a visit from a number of non-white, newly ennobled families asking what happens now that her husband has passed away, as he is the first from 'their' side (ie: non-white) to pass away, and they want to know if they have the same inheritance laws, showing that there remains a racial division in society and that there is fear from the non-white titled members of the Ton that their titles could only last a generation (this goes some way to explaining some of the attitude of the Duke of Hastings I think).

The race issue is not only with the newly ennobled members of the ton, but also with the Queen herself. She is having her wedding portrait painted (though it is only half done because the King is not there), and when she tells the portraitist to paint her skin darker 'as it is actually is', Princess Augusta says no, it needs to be painted lighter. Whilst this is meant to highlight the racism in society it is not too inaccurate for the times, many portraits were painted with features to adhere to what was perceived attractive at the time, or (rumoured) to make a political point.

After this exchange Charlotte writes a letter to her brother to request safe haven and his protection, Brimsley opens and reads the letter before sending it, and he tells Reynolds to try and prompt him to get the King to come to her.

Lady Danbury, whilst out walking, meets with Lord Ledger at a hut where she was resting, and discovers that their properties abut, and during their exchange he invites her to go walking again with him, something that she begins to do on a regular basis. At this point they are just behaving as friends, walking and getting to know each other with conversation. There are a number of scenes showing them walking, and eventually an almost kiss, which then segues into 'present day' Lady Danbury at the hut, which is now a ruin.

In 'present day' Bridgerton the Queen has decided to advance the situation with her children by betrothing two of her sons, William (Duke of Clarence) and Edward (Duke of Kent), to two German Princesses (Adelaide and Victoria respectively).

Later in the episode the two Princes think they have gotten the better of their mother when they announce the loophole - she did not gain permission for their marriage from the Prince Regent. Under the Royal Marriages Act all the sovereigns children require the permission of the sovereign to marry, however, as the sovereign is incapacitated and the Prince of Wales is acting in his stead as Regent it is his permission they require. The Princes believe their brother won't grant permission, however, the Queen tells him to grant permission and he does. Again I feel there is something lacking in the 'family' scenes with the Royal family, they just don't appear to have any chemistry with each other, and the parts which are no doubt meant to be humorous or 'banter' just fall very flat to me.

Remaining in 'present day' Bridgerton we see Violet and Lady Danbury at an art exhibition, Violet is a bit out of sorts, and reveals that her household is in turmoil with Anthony on his honeymoon (no mention of Kate) and Eloise fighting with Penelope, and then she reveals that she almost propositioned a footman. This seems to be out of character, but I believe that the show is suggesting that Violet is going through changes, not just with her position in the household now that Kate is Viscountess, but also seemingly being post menopausal (it is known some women have an increased sex drive post menopause). The conversation between Lady Danbury and Violet, using the euphemism of a 'garden in bloom' was rather cringey and to be honest laughable, so kudos to Ruth Gemmell and Adjoa Andoh for their ability to deliver this dialogue in a semi-serious and believable manner.

Back with young Queen Charlotte and her brother Aldophus has arrived from Germany, however, he refuses to take her back with him due to the terms of the agreement he made with the British Government, which includes a military alliance, and to remove her from Britain would be treasonous because she is pregnant.

Lady Danbury finally receives a visit from the solicitor, who does not know what the inheritance laws for her will be, he also reveals that Lord Danbury had exaggerated his wealth, and suggests that Lady Danbury requests the assistance of a male relative, or remarries, in order not to lose everything. During this period we see Lady Danbury's interactions with her children, or more precisely her lack of interaction with her children, and realise that her children were raised by their nanny, it seems that Lady Danbury has a cold relationship with her children, and is not a present parent.

We return to 'present day' Bridgerton where Lady Danbury has invited Violet to the art exhibition at night, after Violet ran out earlier in the day embarrassed by the 'gardens in bloom' conversation. Lady Danbury empathises, and points out that women like them in the ton (older) don't really know anything about true friendship, she says that they talk of matchmaking and love (this confused me, I don't recall Lady Danbury ever talking about love), but never for anyone like them, who is mature. Whilst viewing the wedding portrait of the King and Queen Lady Danbury talks about her 'garden' saying it did not die with the death of her husband as it had never been planted, she continues that her garden bloomed after the death of her husband. Violet appears to be feeling guilty at now having sexual desires, as she states she had never considered wanting another man after Edmund, Lady Danbury reassures her that it is okay to want it.

Back in the past, and Lady Danbury takes her oldest son (aged 4) to meet Princess Augusta, on the way she talks to him about doing his duty, and that he is now the man of the house. At Buckingham House she introduces her son to Princess Augusta as Lord Danbury, as the Princess goest to greet the child she is reminded by Lord Bute that the inheritance issue has not been decided. After the meeting Lady Danbury talks to her son, and we learn she is of Royal blood, and they are from a line of warriors. On her return to her house Lady Danbury discovers that the Queen has turned up at her house, this is after a conversation that Brimsley and the Queen had in the gardens at Buckingham House.

Brimsley told Charlotte she cannot leave, then specifies she cannot leave England. The message is clear, she can leave Buckingham House, but she cannot leave the country, Charlotte understands, confirms that Princess Augusta is not in, and tells Brimsley he must remain in order not to be blamed.

Lady Danbury does not want the Queen to stay at her place as it puts her at risk, so she sends a footman to Buckingham House to advise where the Queen is. When the Queen's brother turns up Charlotte refuses to see him, Lady Danbury talks to the Queen who calls Agatha her only friend. Lady Danbury corrects the Queen, and says she is not her friend, but rather her subject, but would like to be her friend. She says if they are to be friends they must begin again.

Lord Ledger is at home making a birthday hat, Violet tells him he will have to remake it as it is too big for her, Lord Ledger says it is for a friend and not her, as he points out her birthday has passed. This surprises Violet as he never makes birthday hats for his friends, however, Lord Ledger says that his friend has been sad, to which Violet says that his hats always bring cheer. Later on we see Lord Ledger give the hat to Lady Danbury, to which she invites him in (without inviting him in) and they kiss, and then end up in bed together.

Back in 'present day' Bridgerton, it is the wedding day for the two Princes, though for a Royal Wedding of the second and third in line to the throne it is very modest, and not as grand as the wedding the Queen threw for Edwina, which makes that even weirder (and another post). Before the wedding Prince Edward says he is afraid he will not be able to love her, to which the Queen responds that love is a choice, and you choose to love the person you marry.

We see Lady Danbury in the 'present day' Bridgerton time looking for something, these scenes are interspersed with scenes from when Lord Ledger gave her the birthday hat, we finally see her find what she was looking for, and note it was the birthday hat, which she puts on.

Young Charlotte, on returning to Buckingham House from Lady Danbury's residence, decides to go and be 'Queen of England', she goes to George and demands to see him. When the doctor says it would not be wise to see him she tells him that either he takes her to the King or she will have her men search every room until they find him, and she is taken to the King who is receiving 'treatment'. When Charlotte arrives we see that George is being treated by what looks like a hot poker, Charlotte orders them to stop and orders everyone out whilst she calms George down.

Charlotte orders that her and the King will move to Kew, and that the doctor is relieved of his duties, she tells him that she does not care for the King's sanity, but for his soul and his happiness even if that means he is to be mad.

As I said, this is so far the best of the episodes, but I think that is because I actually found Lady Danbury's story arc quite compelling, and whilst it doesn't make me like her any better as a character I think Arsema Thomas is able to really convey why Agatha acts in the ways she does. It will be interesting when I revisit season one and two how this will impact my view of the character in those seasons.

Dreams of the Past-Future AU

tw/cw for mentions of torture, death, etc.

Unconsciously, certain characters are tormented with nightmares of past loops, leaking into the current one, as the System responds to Penelope's cracking will and soul.

Each one horrifies their dreamer.

Reynold sees Penelope as she shrieks in pain, her final moments torturous as she dies slowly. Bitter tears drip down her face as she dies, pleas of innocence on her lips. Bloodied hands reach out to his, dragging her broken form towards him in desperation. "I didn't do it, I didn't take the necklace, I didn't poison Yvonne-"

He can only watch as he shoves her, the attic window breaking behind her back as she plummets to her death, a sickening crunch ending her scream.

Derrick watches as Penelope screams and thrashes, as his body slams his foot down on her leg, chained and in the dungeons. Cold words flow from his mouth without control, as he gives in to the hatred that masks the guilty lust he holds for her.

She is akin to a doll as his hands smooth over her hair, as he makes her his. Derrick wakes up in reality, looking to the side and expecting to see Penelope's slumbering form next to his. Where she looks more alive in sleep than when in the waking world.

Winter dreams of Lady Eckhart, ruined by the rumors that were spread by the White Rabbit Guild. He can only watch as his body uses his magic- magic that he swore to only wield to protect- to cause more suffering, as she cries and begs for mercy. Penelope's final screams are of hatred, cursing him to the depths of hell.

Horrified eyes meet his as he interrupts her coming-of-age, her golden cup clattering to the ground.

Eckles's mind is no safe haven anymore, away from the horrors of the slave auction house and the fears of the master who will buy him. He sees a magenta-haired lady his age who smiles at him tenderly and with regret. He sees the slave ring on her finger, but there is no fear from him. The next moment, she is on the ground, black and blue, with choking cries as he beats her to death with a wooden sword.

Another one is where he subdues her, possessively caging her within his embrace as she fights to get out. "If I can't have your heart, I'll have your body instead," his mouth moves without permission.

Callisto doesn't normally dream, but lately, he's been having dreams of the lady who must be the Mad Dog of the Eckharts. His mind shivers in disgust as he wraps an arm around some unknown woman as she clings to him, her touch like bugs that crawl up and down his body as she cuddles into him. He points his sword at Princess Eckhart, and in another, forces poison down her throat. He watches as her heart freezes, as her face melts off and disfigures.

Callisto sees a scene where an unknown woman is in his embrace, as they murmur words of love to each other, and something in him screams at the wrongness he feels. At the sappy, lovesick words that fall from his mouth as he becomes a puppy.

The Duke feels regret and sadness lance through his chest as he watches his adoptive daughter die over and over again. As he signs her execution papers, the list of crimes is longer and different each time. He can only watch stoically as she climbs the steps to her execution. A guillotine. A noose. An executioner with a sharp weapon in hand. A stake that she's hung onto as the flames climb higher and higher. A dulled gaze that sweeps over them all, a bitter laugh that leaves her lips.

"You'll soon realize the truth, anyways. I'm innocent in this matter. You'll kill me over and over again because you can't get your heads on straight about the truth."
