I've seen death before. Usually in the form of an old life. Someone who has lived their life, friends or family nearby to ease the passing. One last breath, one last sigh and they pass on, through the open window to the next thing. Sometimes it isn't so peaceful. It's liquid rattling in the lungs, clawing at clothing and blankets that no amount of medication will ease, fighting until the end. I've seen death before. People fighting working together to bring back the teenager in front of us, praying for a pulse, a breath, anything, only for it to be shattered by the screams of the mother.

I've seen death before. But hearing it is a whole other thing entirely. Hearing the screams of the mother on the other end of your headset while you sit there, powerless to do anything but send help. Knowing you did everything you could, hearing your partner on the phone giving instructions on how to keep this infant alive just long enough for an ambulance to arrive. Hoping against all odds that when they took him to the hospital he would live, because the screams of the mother echo in your head, like her soul had been ripped out of her.

I've seen death before, but hearing it...hearing it is worse than seeing it.

Hey as the 911dispatch queen, I am wondering if you can educate me on how podcasts work on spotify - is it free to create podcasts there? I'm an avid consumer of audio fics (yours included thank you ily - just finished breathe and i hope you consider doing more!!!). I download a bunch from ao3 and then they go to my local library on spotify and that's how i listen. The only issue I have is - spotify doesn't keep your place like it does for podcasts. So when you pick up to listen again you have to try and remember what hour/minute you were at 🤣 have you ever considered uploading your audio fics to spotify as a podcast ? Or is there a reason you wouldn't do this? (Not sure how copyright laws work there etc). Or alternatively, have you figured a better way to listen to audio fics to avoid this problem? I'm a bit of a novice 🙈 (also I am an Android user and download on mobile if that is at all relevant). Thankyou! 💖

Yes, it's free to create a podcast through Spotify's service (previously called Anchor, now Spotify for Podcasters). There are other free services too and paid ones, but I use Spotify's. But regardless of what service you use, you can get the podcast listed on Spotify and other podcast apps.

I know some podcasts do exist that read fanfic but it's not something I ever considered doing with my podfic. I also tend to listen to shorter podfic so I haven't really hit the issue of my place not being saved, so I'm not much help on that 😅 I do know that you can save podfic in the audiobook file format so it might be possible to get them into an audiobook app? And I assume those apps would save your place? But I don't actually know, sorry!

If anyone else does know please chime in with any advice you have for anon.
