For everyone hoping and or expecting there to be something huge in the mid season finale on Thursday and who will feel let down and upset if there's not I wanted to point out some things.
First of all Tim just came back in s7 and it was a shortened season. I know we all had issues with how that season was handled but I also think Tim had a lot to figure out for having just come back to show. He was bringing 911 to a new network had only 10 eps to tell the entire seasons stories in. It was also a rather important season considering it was where they finally had Buck come out and where the pieces were finally being put into motion for Buddie to happen eventually (like in episode 704).
But I also think a lot of stuff Tim wanted to do in s7 he didn't get to and instead carried it over to s8 where he felt he had more time. The majority of 8a was spent closing out storylines that started in s7. What people have to realize is that a lot of this likely would have been the second half of season 7 had that been a full season. Now going into 8b I expect to see more focus put on Eddie's coming out and more movement towards Buddie happening.
None of this means that the mid season finale will necessarily be a huge ep or have a nde or have Eddie come out or Buddie kiss or anything like that. This ep may be pretty similar to the one we saw last week especially because like some have pointed out Tim and the others may have been expecting 809 to be the mid season finale not 808. And besides that 911's mid season finales have rarely been these huge events. Those were usually saved for other eps.

S8 -
802/803 - Athena NDE plane emergency
805 - Denny NDE
---------------------------------
Looking at the way 911 has structured it's seasons in the past it's far more likely that if we're going to get a nde for Buddie or one of them we're going to get it later in the season and not at the mid season. We could get a more surprising moment like we've seen in the past like with Eddie leaving the 118 but like I said before I think it's highly probable that 808 wasn't meant to even be the season finale so a more shocking or surprising moments might not even be until 809 when the show comes back.
I just really think we all need to take a look how the show operates and prepare ourselves so we're not too let down. Also as much as I love coming up with theories and love listening to theories everyone else comes up with I feel like it's become a habit lately in our fandom for some people to get everyone excited and expecting certain things from the show. Then when the show doesn't deliver every single episode people are left feeling angry. This isn't just the fault of the people talking about their theories it's a fandom issue in general I think. I wish our fandom would just be more realistic going into each ep and not so quick to turn on the show if expectations aren't met immediately.
I 100% believe Eddie is going to come out and Buddie is happening. I've been watching the show for years and things have never been as close to Buddie canon as they are now but that doesn't mean it will happen instantly. Everything that's being shown and said (in interviews) is telling us that the show is playing the long game. We have to be patient and wait for them to get there, which I know can be really frustrating, trust me I've been waiting for Buddie's love story to be canon for what feels like forever. I think we will see more movement in Eddie and Buddie's story this season but maybe not this episode coming.
----
I also think it's important that we show our love for the show and the people who work on it more. I feel like a lot of the stuff I see out of our fandom lately is pretty negative. I'm not saying it's not warranted or that I don't do my own share too (I was talking just the other day on twitter about my issues with Athena's storylines) but I also can't help to think of how Oliver and Ryan and the others must feel. Imagine working really hard on something and then going online to see how the audience feels about it and the predominate reaction is about how awful the episode was. I definitely believe it's possible to love 911 (and any media really) and still be critical of it at times but I also think sometimes our fandom focuses too much on what we're not getting from the show and less on what we are.
We are incredibly lucky to have two amazing actors who put such love and care into playing Buck and Eddie and who have always been supportive of our ship. We're lucky that pretty much everyone involved with 911 (minus maybe KR) seems to be supportive of Buddie happening because trust me that's not common among a lot of other non canon queer ships. We're lucky that Buck has finally come out and that all signs are pointing towards Eddie coming out too. We're lucky that the show is even still on the air because it was seriously on the brink of being canceled before abc picked it up. If it had been not only would we have no chance of Buddie but Buck would never have come out and both men would have ended their run on the show with those lackluster partners. And speaking of lackluster partners we're lucky that Tim got rid of Tommy. I know he could have done it sooner but he also could have kept him around longer. I think some of you need to realize that making Buddie a reality is still a risk for the show and for abc. Having another main come out is still risky but they seem ready to take the risk.
Sorry this post got so long. I just had a lot of thoughts with the new ep coming and seeing everyone already prepared to be upset about it. Let's just go into this ep with limited expectations and be happy we get to go into a hiatus for the first time in a while without b/t being a thing. Thanks if you taken the time to read all of this. ❤️

hiii im new what does buck was in the room mean
omg anon hi!!! first of all i want to say welcome!!! i also do want to say sorry you weren’t here during the “buck is in the room” era because those were some crazy ass times (in the best possible way).
so i have consulted the experts (aka the teeny tiny friends) because i am SO bad at remembering the exact sequence of events.
so basically during season 5b we knew eddie was going to have a huge breakdown. we knew it was coming. and the week before 5x13 we got confirmation of it in the form of seeing promos of eddie in his destroyed room with a bat in his hands and his knuckles splintered. and this made us go nuts!!! but you know what made everyone even MORE insane? the fact that in that first promo you could see the back of a head in the corner of the shot. and that is how “BUCK IS IN THE ROOM” was born. people were analyzing the back of that head for hours, comparing the shape of the ear we could see with oliver’s ears. basically we all arrived at the same conclusion: it really was buck!!!! buck was in the room with eddie as eddie sobbed inconsolably!!! and then another promo dropped where you could clearly see it was buck because you could see all of his back and we were like “OMFG IT REALLY IS HIM. BUCK IS IN THE MOTHERFUCKING ROOM!!!!” because before we had known but now we KNEW.
that era is really one of my favorite times in the 911 fandom, no doubt about it. it was exhilarating and full of potential and the meta was so incredibly nuanced and good and it really felt like we all just were so connected to the characters and their journey and even each other.
#buddie#911#anyways!!!!!#thanks for helping remind me of some really truly incredible times!!!!#and thanks frida pia and kris for acting as my history fact checkers because my memory in itself wouldn’t have been enough#anon#ask

What is the couch theory? 😅
oh anon, where do i start!!!!! this is possibly my favourite subject of all time so apologies in advance if this gets rambly askdjfh
okay so the couch theory goes all the way back to s5 of 911. at the start of 5B buck asks taylor to move in with him, right? and because she brings all her stuff with her it means they have double of everything, including two couches. so buck gets rid of his and they keep taylor's
however in 5x18 buck and taylor break up so she moves out and, of course, takes her couch with her
when we meet buck again in s6 a few months later he still hasn't found a replacement couch. over family dinner with eddie and christopher, chris makes a joke about it (like father, like son) and buck tells him and eddie that, "he doesn't want to choose the wrong couch again" heavily implying he means he doesn't want to choose the wrong romantic partner again (he also says his last two couches came with girlfriends since ali presumably helped him pick out the first one when he moved into the loft in s2).
the episode ends with buck moving his armchair to the place his couch used to sit and sitting down with a smile on his face, suggesting he's content on his own for now and thus, the couch theory was born:
buck's next couch/romantic partner will be the Right one
so we go through the whole of 6A with no couch developments and no real allusions to it be tHEN in 6B after the lightning strike buck's parents comment on his lack of couch and his mother decides she's going to buy him a couch (which is the adult equivalent of getting him a new bike when he hurts himself but that's a different post)
so margaret buys buck a couch but obviously, it's all wrong. because buck didn't choose it himself. it's not comfortable, he can't relax on it, can't fall asleep on it. and in an episode where buck is feeling smothered by everyone's attempts to check in on him it doesn't offer the comfort he needs so what does he do???
go to eddie's house of course!
and you'll never guess what happens, anon:
buck falls asleep on eddie's couch in about five seconds flat!!!!
to say 911 had me by the throat at that point would be an understatement lmao
bc that means eddie's the couch, right?????? what other implications could there possibly be when buck has been using his couch as a metaphor for a partner and he falls asleep on eddie's couch so quickly, suggesting he feels safe and comfortable there??? i said it that time but it would literally have been less suggestive to have him sleep in eddie's bed than it would've been to have him sleep on the couch at the point skdjhf
(and none of this is even getting into the fact that when buck wakes up eddie is the first person buck is honest with in the episode about how he's feeling after the accident, further cementing the idea of him being buck's safe space)
anyway by the end of s6 kameron gives birth on buck's couch and effectively ruins it meaning it's time for him to get a new couch again. now this is where everything falls to shit and i WILL be bitter about this for the rest of my life lmao but basically because of the fear of cancellation s6 sort of pivots in the last few eps and the finale makes an attempt to give each of the characters a mini happy ending in case it really is the overall series finale. and buck's 'happy ending' was to ask natalia (who he'd recently started dating) to help him pick out a new couch
now my personal opinion?? i Hated that. not even from a buddie perspective, just as someone who is very dedicated to buck's seasons long romantic arc and the couch theory, i thought it was really weak and far less satisfying than if he'd just ended the season single. especially bc the point was buck was supposed to pick the couch himself. but!!! some people are suggesting he still doesn't have a couch in s7 (though it's hard to tell since all the shots we've gotten have been in the kitchen) so i am privately holding onto the hope that the couch theory lives on aksjdfh
TL;DR the couch is eddie. eddie is the couch 🛋️❤️

I know we have mostly moved on, but I saw that nobody brought up the Arielle hate, so I will tell you the 911 on that. Arielle and the Lucy character was an unmitigated disaster of Kristen’s own making. When it was announced that Arielle was being brought on for 5B, a lot of fans were excited about finally getting another female firefighter. Kristen fumbled this so badly because she had too many things going on offset - Taylor’s arc was supposed to end in 5A, but then Michael’s actor wouldn't get the vaccine and was barred from set and availability of other mains - that she didn't realize how bad the introduction of the character was.
Everyone was so excited on 5B premiere day because the cast seemed to get along with Arielle and thought this meant big things for the FireFam and the new character. Expectations turned sour when the Buck/Lucy kiss was leaked hours before the premiere and people were pissed! Cheating is not liked in the fandom - as we saw that this past season with Eddie - but fans didn't believe that cheating was a Buck trait after how long he waited for Abby.
Kristen thought she had it made, she introduced a female firefighter and used the Eddie type of introduction to solidify the connection from the first rescue. We have to remember that this was also around the time that she shut down Buddie hard and Kristen was slowly realizing the Taylor coupling wasn't working with the audience (my conspiracy theory is that she believed Taylor was endgame), even after changing her personality and giving her a backstory that majorly backfired. She thought getting rid of Taylor would help warm people up to Lucy when all it did was get people mad and kind of feel sorry for Taylor (even the Buddie fans).
To be honest, Kristen was totally okay with pissing off the Buddie fans because she thought she had the general audience on her side. What she didn't realize is that while not a lot of people liked Taylor, BT still had their fans within the general audience and she basically killed the Lucy character with that kiss. Now you had even fewer people liking the new potential pairing compared to the older/not well-liked pairing of BT.
What made matters worse is that Kristen totally banked on people liking Lucy and a Lucy/Buck romance that PR already had a ton of interviews lined up for Arielle after the premiere and even a joint one with Kristen/Arielle/Oliver. In this interview, they all teased this potential romance between Buck and Lucy and that Buck was going to stay with Taylor, but be emotionally cheating with Lucy. The backlash was so loud that night and the weeks that followed that a lot of her scenes that were previewed in interviews by Arielle and Kristen had to be cut because of the audience’s loud dislike.
I put most of the blame on Kristen because a lot of the storytelling and actions made it seem like she promised Arielle a lead role for the next season and a romance with the main guy. The one part that I believe is Arielle’s PR team’s fault is that they shoved her spotlight because of this maybe promise from Kristen. She was doing so many interviews during 5B (almost every week and multiple) that fans were sick of her. A big joke that fans love bringing up is that Arielle had a constant line of “flirting and poking” that she would use in every interview. It took her team a long while to read the room about the response to her character. During these interviews, Arielle would also constantly drop spoilers that had to be cut because of the audience’s reaction to her. You can sometimes see the editing around her lines, especially in scenes in the truck and it is very awkward because people are either answering a question from her character or responding to something she said.
In conclusion, the Arielle hate was because of how badly Kristen fucked up. 5B is where a lot of criticisms came to light about Kristen’s timeline, writing choices, characters, storylines, etc. She can be a good writer when someone tells her what to write, but she can't handle show-running duties and determining story arcs and pacing for episodes and season-long storylines.
ahh good to know!!! i wasnt sure about the lucy/arielle aspect of it all so good to know. i dont want to hate on kristen like i feel a lot of the fandom does because i do believe she’s written good episodes etc but it seems like as showrunner a lot of things were mishandled. not that tim is any better rn but hopefully that improves
(also! if anyone else sends asks about this specific incident from yesterday i probably wont reply to it unless its something new because we’ve kinda beat a dead horse into the ground here)

I totally understand people's frustration with the lack of Buddie interaction but let me just say one thing. If Kristen really disliked Buddie why open with such a beautiful family scene. The dim lighting, the lasagna, the roasting, the couch metaphor that has been in play since Taylor!!! Where is that couch by the way. Lucy better not being sitting where family game nights were held lol.
But seriously you could have just had Buddie in the locker room with a 3 sentence exchange "end scene".
None of us can promise they will be Canon but if I had my doubts it's not because of the beginning of the season. If I am actually being really honest if you asked me in S3 which one could have been gay I would have guessed Buck. Baby me then would never had guessed that in S6 I was more sure Eddie Diaz was queer and Buck may not be TBH. I only had that thought back then because that was actually my worst fear if they didn't go Canon. That one of them would end up with a man and the other with a women. I should probably see a therapist about that!!!
Hi Nonnie! Thank you for the lovely ask!
(Since I’m falling a bit behind on answering asks despite doing my best, with your permission, I’ll answer you and then two more Kristen asks in this post)
Yes, I fully agree. I was going to mention in this ask reply the lasagna scene as something that says that 911 obviously wants us to know they have not forgotten about Buddifer or are ignoring it, but I had so much to say, I ended up forgetting that bit, so thank you for adding it in! And you phrased it so well, too. Everything about that scene was very deliberate.
And yes, I’ve said it time and again, I can’t know that Buddie will go canon, I’m just out here, hoping for it and explaining why, based on the story as it’s been told so far, I can’t see another other satisfactory resolution for either Buck or Eddie (or for that matter, even Chris in terms of getting both of the people he sees at a certain point as his parents under one roof, as we’ve seen is his secret wish in 210).
As for Buck, I’ve always thought he oozed bi energy since 107 and his bonding with the gay vic. That was only reinforced along the way, and now we have stuff like Buck casually quoting gay anthems to Eddie like it’s nothing. I’m sorry, no matter who his partners end up being canonically by the time the show is over, there is no way that boy is straight. IDK if that helps you, but that is the one thing I will insist on. Queer Buck is real and deserves all the love.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! xoxox
You're so lovely, and I hope you're write about kr and 6b. In my opinion she's separating them cause she has no intention of doing buddie canon, but not to stop us from since she knows it's impossibile, but I think she's afraid of being accused of queerbaiting again from journalists. I mean she brought back Carla after 20 episodes to avoid buck being there, not to the dance, but just helping chris dress, and that scene with buck hen and denny? Like see he hangs out with all the 118 kids
Awwww, thank you so much for the kind words! You’re lovely, too! *hugs* As for Kristen... I don’t think she wants to stop us from shipping Buddie, she has stuff to gain from us shipping (Keeps the current viewership and gets a very active fandom that through online content is bringing in new viewers even during s6), and she can lose things if we stop shipping (she’s lose viewers, she’ll lose the active online fandom, and those fans who get frustrated and give up? They’ll accuse her of queerbaiting for sure). And yes, I do believe the 601 scene is a sign that’s not the direction Kristen means to follow. Am I right? We’ll get a better idea once 6b airs. Last season, 5b made it clear that the distance in 5a was not meant to tear Buddie apart, so I tend to believe that’s what we’ll have this year, too. But if s6 wraps up without Buddie coming back together, then I guess we’ll have an answer (not necessarily a definitive one. I've said before that you can’t judge a show on the issue of queerbaiting until it’s off the air, ‘coz as long as it’s on, the execs can always choose to change direction and make the same sex ship happen. This would be especially true in the case of 911, if Tim decides to step back in and change the course Kristen set).
I hope this helps? Sending hugs! xoxox
Hey! So I know you talked about this thing a lot but there's something that I don't understand about what kristen said about exploring other dynamics. What I don't understand is that yes we had some more hen/buck and chim/eddie scenes, but the only dynamic that was pratically absent from 6a was just buddie, we still got some hen/chim scenes. And while i get don't make them talk about the donor for now, I think they could still make some space for some buddie scenes, what do you think?
Hi Nonnie! You’re right, we did get some Hen & Chim. But TBH, Hen & Buck isn’t that new either, we just got a bit more of it than in previous seasons. Neither is Eddie & Carla that new. Carla was used in the past as well when they needed some stuff to happen away from Buck, like in 312 when it absolutely could NOT be Buck there when Eddie first meets Ana or you know our moron Diaz boy wouldn’t have even looked at her. And Carla was also used in 510, so that when Eddie announces he’s leaving, it came as a shock to Buck. None of that kept Buddie from being intense and domestic and there for each other in the long run. And the Chim & Eddie stuff we got this season was hardly substantial. It’s not like it feels as if these two are suddenly each other’s new besties. I think Kristen does wanna keep Buddie apart for a bit, and she uses other dynamics to solidify the sense of A TEAM, while also preparing us for Buddie coming back together in 6b. I could be wrong, of course, as I told the previous Nonnie! But that’s how the story telling so far this season feels to me. And I also wouldn’t take any interviews too seriously. Cast and show runners alike, when they do PR for their show, they have one job: to get you to keep watching. So they will say whatever they think will do that. If Kristen doesn’t wanna reveal her real 6b plans, but she does want us to be patient and wait for Buddie’s return in 6b, and she thinks that will best be served by saying she’s just exploring new dynamics, then that’s what she’ll say, whether it’s accurate or not.
Again, I hope this helped! Have a great day, all of you! And as always, here's my ask tag. xoxox

911 6x16 episode title (according to @911bts ) is "Lost".
I wonder if it's about Buck or maybe about Bobby, who started his way downhill at the end of 6x09.
I am really curious because we witnessed Chimney, Maddie's and Eddie's breakdowns in season 5b, and Hen's breakdown was in S6a. We have both Bobby and Buck, each in his own private crisis that started in S6a but didn't have a real conclusion.
My speculations are that if it's Buck, it may very well be during or after recovery with performance anxiety. I really think that Buck's crisis could be played out in the first few episodes of S6b, especially if he's the one hurt.
The reason I'm more leaning towards Lost being Bobby's breakdown, is because if Buck is indeed the one to be hurt, so soon after his sponsor's death, Bobby may feel guilty and angry and eventually will lose his grip on that calm he's holding so tightly on.
Last season, Bobby was close to break when Eddie came and pulled him from the edge, but it wasn't resolved or treated. It was just shelved until the next crisis.
That's why I think that once everything calms down, Bobby will have his own breakdown, maybe brought by new details about his sponsor's death or it may be something else, but it's coming, in my opinion.
I can't wait for buddie S5b parallels and bathena parallels to previous seasons when Bobby was there for Athena. 🥺💜🙏

Ok dumb question but I am fairly new to 911 fandom and what does Buck was in the room mean? I have seen so many referneces to it!
Omg anon it was a wild time to be here. I don’t have the screenshots anymore, but basically the promo for season 5b was released on Instagram and had the clip of Eddie sobbing in his room with the baseball bat, and everyone was excited about that…but then later in the day, they released the wide screen version of the promo to YouTube which showed Buck in the corner of the frame in that clip (like how it looks in the actual episode) so we all cheered and cried and yelled because we finally had proof that Buck was in the room while Eddie was having his breakdown 😅
#that was a wild time#i still remember exactly where I was when the wide version came out#we were all so????😂😭#anon ask

tbh i feel like we're all maybe forgetting that 6A was kind of destined to be a little bit boring or slow-paced from the get-go because of how 5B ended so *perfectly* with everything tied up in a neat little bow. i mean 5x18 was literally called "starting over," and this is a show that (for better or for worse, this specific post is not pro-911s-pacing or anti-911s-pacing but a secret third thing, confused-and-trying-to-make-sense-of 911s-pacing) routinely and consistently takes right around ~10 episodes to cash in on big narrative plot points. not situational or episode specific or more technical plot points, like madney going from unsuccessful house hunting to finding a place within 2 episodes, or buck agreeing to be a sperm donor inside of 1 episode- those are typically resolved pretty quickly, within an episode or two. the show scaffolds these more-quickly-resolved plot points together into larger, more character driven arcs that typically always take around ten episodes for the full emotional fallout and significance to play out. 911 has always been a show where what happens matters a hell of a lot less to the story than how the characters feel about what happens, so because this is such a character driven show, inside of those ten set-up, pawns-on-the-chessboard episodes, it can be pretty difficult at times to figure out what they're angling at, or where they're planning on going (buck! where the hell are you going!), or how any of the plots are going to coalesce into something useful, profound, and cohesive. typically, the B season ends with at least a *couple* of loose threads that carry over into the arc-resolution-conclusion phase in the following A season, giving us an A season that's like 70% setup for new arcs and 30% wrapup of old arcs- but 5B ended on a true blank slate, so almost *everything* in 6A (with the exception of the conclusion to hen's super-drawn-out-but-very-realistically-paced med school arc) has been... scaffolding from the ground up.
and scaffolding looks pretty unimpressive and odd and boring on its own, like a big pile of ugly junk getting in the way of everything, but put it alongside the Sistine chapel ceiling it was built to accomplish, and suddenly it seems a little more worthwhile.
#this is just some food for thought! I've felt that 6a was good but kinda boring at times#thinking about how much of a blank slate starting over gave us was rather illuminating#911#911 meta#again! this is just me making sense of things it's not me trying to throw stones in any particular direction or make any kind of assertion#this is just my hunch#here's hoping 6B delivers and i have a feeling it will!!!#6A being 9 episodes really just feels like edging lmfao nyfxtnrnsbtd like cutting us off right when things are about to get crazy#which makes me think 6x10 is like. A Big Pivot Episode that couldn't hang on its own for 4 months with no followup#bucks leg injury -> tsunami -> lawsuit -> rejoining the 118 was like 7 or 8 episodes#eddies panic attacks -> ana breakup -> quitting the 118 -> therapy -> breakdown arc was like 11 or 12 eps#(also can we talk about how that arc started with him lying to buck about his mental health and ended with buck helping him with it)#there's more examples but im tired and need to go make dinner so. anyway#a 9 episode A-half coming on the heels of a wrapping-everything-up B finale#just kind of left them with. very minimal runway in which they could pull off any real satisfying conclusions to narrative arcs#while staying true to this 10-episode rhythm they seem to have settled on!#again: for better or for worse! like it or not this show is consistent in *how* it is written. when it comes to like. methodology

Your blog is a breath of fresh air and I love seeing such nuanced & well-thought out comments about the show. As much I loved 911/Buddie, I stopped watching like 6 eps into s5 bc the BT + overall OOC-ness of the show became too much and didn't wanna put energy into something that was upsetting me. I only know stuff thru tumblr posts and never fully understood what happened w/ lucy and the fallout. was she planned to be a main/B's LI but ppl hated her so much they wrote her outta the show? [1/2]
[2/2] I've seen folks mention that they filmed a lot of scenes with her that got cut? I know next to nothing about her character, and was trying to find a summary of what happened in regards to her/her planned arc from the lens of buddie/tumblr fandom (not just wiki summaries), and your posts are some of the most informational and level-headed content I've seen on here, so thank you for that! <3 Hello, nonnie! First things first: I put together this post from 5x11 -> 5x15 that details AK's deleted scenes and how she was told to set up the BL dynamic. You'll see that Lucy as a love interest was never confirmed, but the show wanted the audience to keep the possibility in their minds. (Cliffs notes: "Sometimes they’re borderline poking at one another. Sometimes it’s flirty…. But is it flirty, or is it poking?") Another quote to back up the will they-won't they angle: While she does move on after [Buck] reveals he has a girlfriend, expect to see them “bounce very quickly between being best pals and having a little bit of sexual tension.” Because that post only went to the midway point of 5B, I can now add that an Eddie and Lucy interaction was also cut from the later episodes (possibly the finale): "...there’s a really nice moment towards the end of the season between Lucy and Eddie and you get to see Lucy gets it.” As for whether or not the plan was to make Lucy a main...AK and Kristen and Tim know the answer to that, but from the onset AK and Kristen spoke about Lucy's future, probably in hopes of endearing the character to the audience over the course of 5B: Reidel also revealed that fans won't meet Lucy's family this season, teasing: "Depending on what happens going forward, though, we'd love to. We make jokes about doing the whole Blue Bloods dinner set-up." Kebbel hinted that if the show is renewed for a sixth season, the plotline leaves room for more developments with Lucy. Peter Krause gave an interview prior to the finale where he referred to Lucy as a new member of the family because, as we found out, the final shot of the season was all the OG firefam + Lucy (+ Ravi, on the opposite side) walking together towards the trucks. But then summer came. AK posted about preparing for her first day on set - a day that just so happened to be the first for s6 production. And then...she wasn't there. She was actually in North Carolina filming a movie (but she sure did have people freaking out for a minute, which was probably the goal). We never saw her on set. The Lucy scene from 6x01 was a "surprise" to the audience. Before and after the premiere Kristen gave an interview where she said she was hoping to bring Lucy back in the second half of the season. This is what Kristen said at the conclusion of 6A: Are there plans for Arielle Kebbel’s Lucy to return to 9-1-1 this season? “I’m not sure yet. We’re still planning the back half of the season (premiering in Spring 2023), so there are some question marks about space and real estate and what the stories are going to be. We’re still figuring that out.”
I don't think it's out of line to say the negative/dismissive reception impacted AK's place on the show rn, but I also think that it's possible that even *if* Kristen wanted to "start over" and act like the BL stuff didn't happen, AK made the decision to distance herself from this experience for now since it did not go at all like she was told/believed it would. (Many will say that Kristen probably thought people would look past the cheating because they just wanted BT to end, and with the way AK was able to discuss her character and Buck potentially having something brewing while he was still going to be in a relationship...yeah, that checks. On the one hand, I want to feel sorry for AK that her boss completely misread the room and had her thinking it was a great idea, but on the other....she did not sign up for another coming-of-age teen drama. People don't want to see that kind of stuff on a show like 9-1-1, especially not from a character as loved as Buck. If she knew anything about the show she could have seen the backlash coming. Do your research, babes.)

Image and audio descriptions for the two 911 promos so far: feel free to add to your posts!
9-1-1 Season 5 "Spring Return" Promo:
“You sure you’re ready” – camera zooms in on Buck standing beside the firetruck.
“Like I never even left” – Chimney skips towards the trucks, Bobby sits in the passenger seat of the fire truck, turning towards the camera with a proud grin
“911, what’s your emergency” – May sits at her desk in the dispatch centre.
“Help” – Bobby stands outside and looks up a towerblock, where a black woman is hanging from a banner attached to the outside of the building. The music sings “hold on”
“We’re gonna have to get her down the hard way” – Athena stands beside Bobby, looking at him with a worried expression. He brings his head down to look at her and she looks up with her lips pressed together. Buck has his mouth open with concentration as he’s lowered down the side of the building.
How come – Buck has a wide eyed expression as he reaches a hand down towards the woman. The woman falls.
Hold on – At night, a jeep drives between engine 147 and another fire truck. There are flashing lights behind it as well.
“Do not take your foot off the gas” – one firefighter is clinging to the outside of the truck, whilst others stand on top of the other fire truck. We see a side view of Eddie, wearing an LAFD uniform as well as a dispatcher headset, and he appears to be in the dispatch centre.
A woman, that looks like Lucy, leaps off the top of the firetruck. There’s a massive explosion as the jeep blows up.
A man faces the camera and pulls the trigger on a gun, which just clicks. Maddie, with a new shorter haircut, stands in what looks like Chim’s apartment, a sad look on her face. Chimney in his LAFD sweater jogs through a hospital corridor.
“I’m getting a reading” – we see a humanoid shape lying on a bed, covered in a lot of white webbing. Bobby is holding a temperature gun out towards it, and Lucy and Hen stand beside him, looking apprehensive. Hen peels the webbing off and spiders come out. Hen leaps back in surprise.
Bobby and Hen are walking back towards the fire truck. Hen’s arm is raised before she turns back in surprise. She walks towards a donation container, and opens the top, Bobby and her leaning in. A sweaty man is sitting in the bottom of the container and looks up, saying “help.” Bobby and Hen look at each other in resignation.
“Now that’s a new one” – Athena stands in the street in her uniform, in front of another woman.
9-1-1 Season 5 "What Are You Afraid Of?" Promo:
We see Frank sitting in his office, with the camera behind the armchair that Eddie is sitting in. Frank says “Think about a time that”. The camera flips to a close-up of Eddie, who looks up, as Frank continues the sentence with “you felt the most afraid?” Eddie is leaning back in the arm chair, one shoulder dropped much lower than the other. He has his new haircut with the hair a little spiky on top, stubble, and looks very tired with bags under his eyes, as he listens.
There are loads of cars in traffic, and a massive explosion, the fire reaching up high into the sky as a hub-cap goes flying. A clip from season 5, episode 2, where Bobby says “oh-oh-oh” as he holds his arms out to stop the rest of the 118, who are walking behind him as they walk down a wrecked Hollywood Boulevard.
A black woman is hanging from a banner attached to the outside of the building, and we hear her shout “help!” Buck has his mouth open with concentration as he’s lowered down the side of the building. The woman falls through the air. Bobby and Athena are on the ground, looking up towards the building. Eddie sits up in bed in a darkened room, his hands covering his eyes as he grimaces. We hear echoing screams in the background, and he rocks forwards and rubs his hands over his eyes.
A bunch of firefighters walk through the dirt yard in front of a wooden cabin, with their equipment. We hear “what are you afraid of?” Bobby says “get him prepped for medevac” as they pull a parachute off a man on a roof.
Lucy stands in front of a blurred background, of what looks like windows outside a brightly lit room. She says “he’s got it bad, Cap”. Bobby flips down his helmet visor and Buck powers up the chainsaw above where Bobby is crouched down.
“What are you afraid of?” The writing on the screen says “Don’t be afraid” as we see an aerial shot of the 118’s ambulance and truck pull into a scene outside a chemical processing plant. There are already police, the 118 ladder, and people in high-vis jackets on the scene. Athena’s voiceover says “pursuing bombing suspect” as we see Athena’s car is parked outside a large building and she starts to get out of the car. Athena walks away from a house with loads of furniture piled up outside. Athena looks behind her as she bangs on a front door. She pushes her way in, gun at her side, and the inside of the house is dark but full of furniture.
The writing on the screen says “911 returns”. A police officer, Jonah, Hen, Lucy and Bobby stand beside a bed with a person lying on it, covered in white webbing. “What are you afraid of?” Bobby looks concerned as he aims a temperature gun at the bed, saying “I’m getting a reading”. Hen peels the webbing off and spiders come out. Hen leaps back in surprise. Jonah shouts "clear". A tarantula scuttles over a human. A man with an injury on his forehead and an oxygen mask on jerks forward as the defibrillator is used.
“What are you afraid of?” echoes. The camera zooms out fast from a woman on top of a tower in a processing plant. A white man with a gun stands in front of a woman, his hands fumbling. He might be handing the gun to her. A deep exhaling sound is heard as we see Maddie standing in front of Chim.
At night, a jeep drives between engine 147 and another fire truck. There are flashing lights behind it as well. We then see Engine 147 parallel to the car and another truck behind the jeep, with two people on top of it, attached by a harness as one climbs the ladder towards the front of the truck. The jeep drives through traffic cones and barriers, then explodes.
Bobby and Athena stand outside, next to each other. Bobby looks concerned and Athena looks a little sad.
“Pretty open ended question, don’t you think?” Eddie has one hand on the chair’s arm, the other curled at his mouth. He rests his chin in his hand once he’s finished talking.

I can't believe I am now only noticing Buck is having the same arc as Eddie last season and vice versa for Eddie.
Buck was the seemingly content one, but as viewers we also knew he was slightly troubled. But Eddie was the one suffering. Eddie spoke to Carla and made a decision to leave the 118 without consulting Buck. Then Eddie breaks in the back half and it's Buck who helps him while resolving his relationship issues.
Now we have Eddie as the content one, but we also see he is slightly troubled and lonely. Buck makes a huge decision but consulted Hen not Eddie. And the news dropped in the mid season finale.
Or am I reading to much into that? Either way I'm excited to see how it plays out when Buck inevitably does have some sort of crisis in whatever form
It really sort of lines up, though, with what I have always thought about how Buddie being Canon goes. Which is to me a sprinkle of realization at the end of a season in order to secure another season. Both of them are happy and healthy of mind by the end of 6, and some small acknowledgment of Buddie in any form is enough to drive speculation all summer..
Hi Nonnie! Thank you for this ask.
No, I don’t think you’re reading too much into this at all! It’s kind of what I meant when I kept saying that so far, the story telling structure seems to be parallel between 5a and 6a, which is one of the reasons I’ve been assuming we’ll also see similarities (and the same kind of coming back together of Buck and Eddie) in 6b’s structure to 5b. I’m pretty sure I also explained it at some point in terms of how they came back together as Buck came to Eddie’s help, and now we’re waiting to see Eddie being there to help out Buck, but I’m so sorry, my vertigo’s too bad to try finding the relevant posts for you. If you look through my ask tag, I hope you can find them! Or if anyone skilled and kind would wanna help? But basically, you’re so very valid, I agree with you completely.
And not just about these s5 and s6 parallels, I’ve also said before that I pretty much expect 911, if it lets Buddie go canon, to reserve that first moment of actual canon-ness (hush, it’s a word now) for a season finale, because that will for sure generate a buzz, get more people interested, maybe bring in new viewers who can binge watch the show during the hiatus between the seasons, so they’ll raise the viewing figures for the show when it returns...
I hope this helped? Have a lovely day! As always, my ask tag’s here.
