Maybe you’ve done this before (so feel free to ignore this - actually feel free to ignore it either way if you don’t feel like doing it 😅) , but if you had to pick the wardrobe for Buck, Eddie, and Chris for the buddie canon confirmed episode what would you pick for each of them? Your costume metas are so fun so I think your answer to this would be too. 🖤
DJ my darling!!
this is such a fun ask and I've been pondering on it for a few days!!! What kind of outfit we'll see them in really depends on the location of where we get canon confirmation, as well as when it happens!!
If it happens this season, then I'm kind on hoping we'll get some colour paralleling of the lasagne scene from 6x01 - with yellow and blue being the colours worn - especially as I've been banging on about the use of yellow and blue in queer storytelling for a little while (its in so many other queer stories, especially recently) who is wearing the yellow and who is wearing the blue depends very much on who makes the first move - but I'm kind of leaning towards Buck in yellow and Eddie in blue, because I really feel the blue on Buck has bee na deliberate choice this season and is very much tied into his own healing arc, so I think once he gets to the point of being ready, we'll see him change colours in some way as the blue will have done its narrative job for him! I would quite like to see Buck in either a knit polo of some sort - as he's been wearing a lot of this season, or possibly something simialr to the grey jumper form the kitchen scene. I don't want to see him in a hoodie though - those are for when he's seeking comfort and thats not what he'd be doing in a nbuddie canon scene!
I thinkEddie in blue would be a great choice for him and we've seen it start to creep more into his wardrobe since 5x14 and in brighter tones as well. I also think seeing him in Blue would time in to a couple of interesting touchstones for his own journey - the conversation in Christophers room in 5x17 and the suit he wore to Hen and Karens vow renewal and then in season 6 we've had him in blue sleeping on the couch in 6x09 (as well as a couple of other instances) so I'd really love to see him in blue if for no other reason thang getting to see the couch metaphor play out to its full and natural conclusion!!! I either want Eddie in a traditional henley or in an open shirt and tee combo - which we've seen him wearing more often since mid 5b.
If Chris is involved in Buddie going canon in any way, I'd actually kind of like to see him in grey of some sort - possibly with a nod to whatever colours Buck and Eddie are wearing - and if they happen to be stripes, then so much the better! the reason I want to see him in grey is because its a neutral colour and because as much as Christopher is a central part in them becoming a family unit, I kind of want the buck and Eddie outfits to do all the talking - Buddie should be about buddie and not about buddifer - in much the same way that Chris was there on the fridge in the new kitchen scene - present but not a part of the scene directly, I feel a bit like that should also be the case for them getting together canonically - because they should and will be together because its what they both want for each other and themselves, and not because of Christopher (does that make sense?!!) I'd really love to see Buck wearing maroon at the moment they tell Chris they're together though - really solidifying the maroon and fatherhood aspect and coming full circle with when we've seen Buck in maroon. I'd like to see Eddie in either cream or blue for this as well -
Another reason for wanting blue and yellow is that I'd love the symmetry of their turnouts being blue and yellow and the whole connection to their jobs - it all just ties in so well together and would make me very happy!!!
Of course they could choose to parallel Athena and Bobbys first date and go with brown and blue - which I would also not be mad at, but I feel like the yellow would be a bit more interesting and fitting - especially because of all I've already said 😎
This post is either going to haunt me when I'm a million miles off, or I'm going to drag it out and be really annoying and make it everyones problem if I happen to be right!!!
How did I do?? I hope it was fun to read! thanks for giving me some fun! 💜💜💜

Oh boy
The. Shirt!
Tumblr media
Let me be unhinged for a moment
Ok according to @stagefoureddiediaz the Buck wearing vertical stripes theory suggests that when he wears them he's emotionally compromised and it's linked to the shooting
May I say
Buck breakdown!!!
May I say
Finally fucking talking about the shooting
May I say
Eddie admitting that the shooting was his oh moment
It's also about him making stupid choices and maybe Eddie finally tells him that
That he is making another stupid choice
And thus Buddie fallout
It's also from ep5 that's why I think it's Buddie related
With the titles of 4 & 5 and all
But also "You don't know me"...
Buck doesn't know himself? Buck brings up a side of him the others don't know? (*cough cough* bi Buck)
Eddie admitting his feelings but then be like... But you're not into guys and Buck being like... Who said that
This is also the dating location isn't it?
Buck has a date with a man!!
But the damn wrong one
Yes this is probably more wishful thinking than anything else
But one thing I'm sure of
Something big is gonna happen with Buck's life and the shirt is part of it

Costume Change - Buddie - 1/1
Title: Costume Change Fandom: 9-1-1 Rating: Teen and Up Pairings/Characters: Eddie Diaz, Evan "Buck" Buckley Tags: 6x13 spec fic, Established Relationship Summary: Eddie wasn't originally wearing a turtleneck when he got dressed for a night of poker. Timeline: 6x13 Word Count: 712 Disclaimer: I claim no ownership over these characters. I am merely borrowing them from Reamworks, Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision, Ryan Murphy Television, and 20th Century Fox Television. Betas: Thank you to @medieshanachie for looking this over for me. Author's Note: I hardly ever write spec fic, but this little headcanon demanded to be written out after seeing the sneak peak for 6x13. I hope you enjoy.
Read on AO3
Eddie was wearing a button down shirt, top button open, under his navy blue suit coat when Buck came to pick him up. With Buck's newfound ability to do math, Eddie wanted to test him out at the secret poker game he'd heard about from Rosie on B shift.
Granted, he hadn't told Buck where they were going. All he'd told him was to dress up.
Eddie opened the door and drank in the sight of Buck wearing a wine red velvet suit coat over a black button down shirt and black pants and felt his mouth go dry. He was tempted to take advantage of Chris being at a sleepover and peeling Buck out of that suit coat now, but he also wanted to show him off.
Besides, it would be bad form to stand-up the fire chief.
Apparently, Buck was having much the same reaction to seeing Eddie dressed up as Eddie was to seeing Buck because the next thing he knew, Eddie was pressed against the front door with Buck's mouth sealed to his. He allowed himself to enjoy the enthusiasm of Buck's kiss, kissing him back with equal fervor, until he felt Buck move his kisses down to his exposed collarbone.
"Buck, babe, as much as I love where your head's at, we're gonna be late," Eddie said, panting.
"Don't care," Buck said, going back to sucking what was sure to be a magnificent bruise into his flesh.
Normally, Eddie loved when Buck marked him with love bites, but this was not the night for that. Especially not with this shirt.
"You will once you see who's gonna be there," Eddie managed to say.
"Who's gonna be there?" Buck asked, suddenly worried as he pulled back. "Why won't you tell me where we're going looking like this?"
"I told you, it's a surprise," Eddie said, running his hands over the lapels of Buck's coat.
Buck shifted the hand that had been on Eddie's shoulder closer to the skin bared beneath his disheveled shirt and absentmindedly ran over the mark that was now clearly visible.
"Oh, shit," Buck whispered, suddenly looking guilty.
"What?" Eddie asked, his hand coming up to grasp the wrist of the hand Buck had on his shoulder.
"You, um, might want to change shirts," Buck suggested.
"What? Why?" Eddie demanded, slipping out from under Buck to find a mirror.
"How did you even have time to get it so dark?" Eddie asked in astonishment at the dark bruise.
"Enthusiasm?" Buck brokenly suggested. "What can I say? I was inspired by passion."
"I don't have time to iron this," Eddie said, slipping the suit coat off and beginning to unbutton the shirt on this way to his bedroom.
"Now we're talking," Buck said, following Eddie.
Eddie shoved his suit coat into Buck's reaching hands. "I just need to grab a new shirt."
"But I liked that one," Buck pouted.
"And because of how you showed that, it now isn't fit for the company we're keeping tonight."
Eddie skimmed through his closet, but nothing else that would match was ready to just be worn. He suddenly remembered the turtleneck in his dresser and quickly pulled that on and tucked it into his pants.
Buck burst out laughing as Eddie slid back into his suit coat. "What is this, high school?"
Pointing at Buck, he said, "This is your fault." He glanced at himself in the bedroom mirror and nodded as he noted that the turtleneck actually looked really good with the suit coat.
"And you're still sexy as hell," Buck said, trying to pull Eddie back in for a kiss.
"As are you, but we've gotta go," Eddie insisted.
"Will you tell me where we're going?" Buck whined.
"It's not far; you'll see soon enough," Eddie said. He checked his pockets for his wallet, phone, and keys and then held the front door open for Buck.
"I'm still driving though, right?" Buck asked, heading towards his car.
"Of course, I've already got the address entered for directions," Eddie said, holding up his phone.
They got into Buck's Jeep and Buck followed the GPS to their mystery location.
Eddie could feel the press of the seatbelt against his hickey and smiled to himself.
Definitely worth it.
The End

Maybe you do know me
Fandom: 911 on ABC Pairing: Evan "Buck" Buckley/Tommy Kinard Rating: T (very mild smut, some words) Words: 2.8k
Snippet: I’m pathetic… Buck took off his jacket and sat on his bed, exhaling a huff in desperation. He took his head in his hands, wondering how he did it so effortlessly before. Was it really that different, now that it was a man? Should it be? It certainly felt different, but different how? Going back to that night, that moment in his kitchen, Buck tried putting words to the memory. He remembered how Tommy’s eyes burned on him just moments before they kissed, how Tommy’s fingers seared him under his chin, how firm Tommy’s arm felt under the palm of his hand. He also remembered how pliant he had felt after Tommy had kissed him, how gooey it turned his insides, how out of it it made him.  Fingers slowly drifted to his lips as Buck remembered the moment that turned his life completely upside down and sat him on his ass hard. He had a word for it now, that feeling: desired.  He wanted to feel like that again.
Notes: This is kind of a spec fic for *SPOILERS* Buck and Tommy's date next episode (7x05). I have been unable to function since yesterday and just HAD to get this out of my system! I do intend to continue this fic and bring the rating from T, to M, to eventually, E.
Fic under the cut
Buck was a bouncing ball of energy, buzzing as if he’d only just been struck by lightning. He didn’t know what to do with his hands, except run them through his hair, and then curse himself for messing it up. He was excited, nervous, a little terrified. And he was having an outfit crisis.
At first, he’d gone casual chic, fancy but not too fancy, first date and all. Then he’d seen the absurdity of his choice and shifted to a classic henley, leather jacket, cool guy stuff. He felt off somehow, like he was putting on a costume, still vying for attention. He felt like he was dressing up as Eddie.
I’m pathetic… Buck took off his jacket and sat on his bed, exhaling a huff in desperation.
All of a sudden, he knew what he was wearing. His fashion renaissance in the past years had him turning to clothes he wouldn’t have worn at twenty, but now made him feel tender and virile at the same time, comfortable and sexy. It wasn’t much, it certainly wasn’t obscene, but the blue open collared shirt, the slightly high-waisted pants, it accentuated his everything.
The blue of his shirt brought out his eyes, his butt looked great and his waist seemed itty bitty as his shoulders looked broad and huge in the tight fitting shirt.
“Damn…” Buck looked in the mirror, hair fluffed and a blush high on his cheeks. “I’d fuck me.”
As if on cue, he heard a knock at the door. Can’t turn back now, Buck told himself, and strode down the stairs from his bedroom to his door, a little kick in his step.
Buck knew he wasn’t prepared, but he was particularly not prepared to see Tommy on the other side of his door looking like that.
“Hey.” The tone was like gravel and honey, low and sweet and syrupy. Tommy was leaning slightly, a soft smile tugging the side of his mouth. His eyelids were heavy and he smelled good.
Buck auto-combusted right there, his face a fully caramelized beet red now for sure. If a simple chaste kiss had been the catalyst for many inappropriate semis over the past few days (once, when a helicopter flew over his head at the end of a call), this vision of Tommy now – after everything had been put into a new light – was melting him down.
“H-hi, uhh, come inside? You look, I-I mean you look–” Buck’s face spoke for him, all nervous stammering and pointed looks to where Tommy’s shirt was unbuttoned slightly.
“You’re not so bad yourself, Evan.” Tommy answered with a grin, striding into the loft like this wasn’t the most charged moment of his life. Tommy was so cool and collected it was driving Buck crazy.
Bashful, Buck let out a small laugh. “Thanks, picked it out myself too.” Buck didn’t know if this was working or if he was actually being terribly awkward. Tommy’s eyes, however, hadn’t looked anywhere but at Buck since he’d stepped into the loft, and they seemed awfully appreciative of the sight before them.
“Let me just- uh, grab a coat, a-and then we can go?” Buck asked.
“Take your time.” Tommy answered back. His face was soft and fond. “We got all night.”
The date went as well as you’d expect for a newly minted bisexual man in his early thirties. Which is to say that Tommy was very patient and also, wow Buck was nervous. Reassurance was not in short supply from Tommy though, who – Buck guessed – must have gone through something similar at some point in his life.
He was starting to calm down and get down with the playfulness of it all when his house of cards fell all around him, blown down by one Eddie Diaz. The odds.
He hadn’t told Eddie yet, the last they’d seen each other was on the court. They had talked, of course. They’re best friends, they made up and talked about everything and nothing. But not about that, not yet.
What followed was the most excruciatingly awkward 10-minute not-double-date with him and Tommy, and Eddie and Marisol, and a big, giant elephant in the room in between all of them. Eddie was insisting on splitting a table with them, How often does that happen?!, but Tommy, the savior that he was, got them out of it.
“As much as we’d love to, we just grabbed the check here and are officially moving on to our next event. But it’s great to see you, man!” Tommy said effortlessly, like Buck wasn’t just stewing in embarrassment on his chair.
“Yeah, i-it’s great to see you, Eds. Hope your ankle’s feeling better!” Buck said in what he hoped was a convincing manner.
“Oh I see what this is.” Eddie said suddenly.
Buck’s stomach dropped. He wanted to tell Eddie, but not like this.
“Tommy, you’re about to sweep the entire 118 off their feet! You sure it’s not just a thinly veiled attempt to come back?” Eddie laughed and Buck deflated instantly.
Oh thank god. Thank god Eddie was so hetero and so stupidly unaware.
“Haha, you got me! Nah, just hanging out. Turns out Evan and I also have plenty in common. Which, seeing how you two are best friends, makes a hell lot of sense.”
“Ach, alas, you’ll probably end up liking him more than me, he’s a much better cook.” Eddie said in mock dejection. “As long as Muay Thai Monday stays up, I’m good.”
“Dunno, we might have a new challenger here, after I train him that is.”
Eddie let out a full bellied laugh. Buck hadn’t seen him this carefree before. Maybe this whole thing between the three of them could be alright.
“Careful, Buck, he’s a lefty.” Eddie said, joyful and oblivious. “Alright, you guys enjoy your night. See you soon!”
“Sooo, is there actually a next event, or did you make that up to save me?” Buck asked and Tommy laughed, softly. They walked to Tommy’s truck side by side, bumping shoulders on the way.
“Do you want there to be a next event?” Tommy asked, a tone of suggestiveness in his voice.
“I-I wouldn’t mind.”
“Good. Because I had a little something planned.”
“Oh yeah?” Buck tried not to sound too giddy, the fire in his cheeks calmed somewhat by the cool night air.
“Yeah. Nothing big but,” Tommy smiles. “Mars and Saturn are supposed to be really visible in the sky tonight, I thought we could go up to the Griffith observatory, maybe catch a glimpse in the telescope before they close, and then open a nice claret and stargaze in the grass?”
Buck’s breath gets punched out of him. The attention, the stargazing, it feels all very romantic. He was being wooed, and he was enjoying it.
“That sounds… perfect.”
They were laying on their elbows side by side on a blanket and pillows on the sandy grass in one of the more secluded areas of Griffith park. It was harder to access, closer to the cliffs. Tommy called it his secret spot; he’d joked that he’d found it during a call. Next to them, travel mugs half filled with wine abandoned for the moment.
“This is amazing. I hadn’t realized how long it had been since I last saw stars.” Buck said.
“Yeah, LA isn’t great for that. Now, the best place to stargaze is Joshua Tree. Set up a tent in the desert, spend the night under the milky way. It’s incredible.” Tommy hit his last word looking at Buck lazily. Feeling his gaze, Buck turned as well. However awkward Buck might have felt at the start of this whole thing, whatever was going on now was much different. It felt electric. “I can take you sometime.”
“I’d love to be taken.” Buck said, a dazed smile tugging at his mouth. Tommy caught the innuendo before Buck could and smirked, just as Buck realized what he’d just said. Thankful the dark night hid his flush once again, Buck cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Anyway, d-did you plan this knowing I’m a huge astronomy nerd? Did Eddie tell you?” Buck said, trying to distract himself from the sound of his own heartbeat in his ears.
“Mostly, I was looking for an excuse to be alone with you.” Tommy said, low. “If you want that.”
“I do.” Buck said softly, entranced. A beat passed as Buck suddenly realized he should probably attempt to manage expectations. Apart from one-off, meaningless kisses here and there in his 1.0 days, he’s never been intimate with a man. Being kissed by Tommy also made him realize how new he was at this. The last time he was new at intimacy was at fourteen, he never thought he would be there again. “I-I’m not–”
“You’re not what?”
“Experienced.” Buck winced. “Not like that, anyway.”
“It’s okay, Evan. I’m not rushing you. I’m happy going at your pace.” Tommy smiled, eyes hooded.
Buck felt like goo.
“Thing is–” Buck didn’t know if it was the wine, or something else, but a sudden surge of courage overcame him. “I haven’t been able to think about anything else since you kissed me.” Buck held Tommy’s gaze like it was a challenge. He let his eyes fall from Tommy’s eyes to his lips, before licking his own absentmindedly. “And I very much would like to do that again.”
A hand gently grabbed the side of Buck’s face, lips pressed into his own, softly, but with force Buck wasn’t used to. This time, Tommy didn’t waste a second on pleasantries, slipping Buck tongue immediately. It was slow, smooth, fluid. Somewhere in the back of his throat, Buck let escape a delicate moan he wasn’t even aware was there. Tommy responded in kind, slipping his hand in Buck’s hair and tugging slightly.
Buck felt swept away by the kiss, and whatever it was that Tommy was giving him at the moment, he wanted more. The time for experience over eagerness would come, but for now, Buck was at least good at that.
Buck’s hand found purchase on Tommy’s ribs, gripping his shirt. He swiped his own tongue over Tommy’s bottom lip before biting, gently, and turning Tommy back on his elbows. Understanding the invitation, Tommy sat up, and pulled Buck over his lap, his hand leaving Buck’s hair to guide his thigh instead.
Buck had big strong thighs. He had big strong everything, in fact. He wasn’t small in any sense of the term. But here, straddling Tommy, he felt tiny. In the best way.
They were the same height, yes, but Tommy was a bit bigger. He had bigger hands for one, which Buck could feel running up the side of his thighs to his back, sneaking under his shirt. They were warm.
Buck was used to his own hands feeling big on everything, everyone. But not on Tommy. Feeling Tommy’s pecs through his shirt, gripping the back of his head as Tommy bit and sucked into his neck, it was intoxicating.
Tommy was also big somewhere else. Through layers of denim and cotton, Buck felt the unmistakable pressure of a bulge, nestled just under his own. Now in that department, Buck could still win. But if his estimation was correct, as a man who’d never felt any other bulge but his own, that was weapons-grade cock.
The realization made him dizzy with want, but this was going a little fast. He’d only just found out he was into men days ago. He needed to process some things. Either Tommy was a mind reader or really in tune with Buck’s feelings because he slowed down, his kisses becoming less hungry and his touches less searching.
“I should take you home... Before, we commit a felony in Griffith park.” Tommy said, laughing, nose bumping with Buck’s as they kissed gently.
“Pretty sure it’s just a misdemeanor.” Buck chuckled. “I don’t think I’ve ever been this horny in my life.” Buck paused. “But I don’t want to burn any steps.”
“Wise.” Tommy answered back, slightly out of breath.
Neither made a move to detangle themselves at first, until a gust of wind threatened to knock their forgotten wine mugs over.
Quick panic was superimposed with unabashed laughter as they packed, attacked on all sides by the unpredictable winds of southern California. When they got back to the truck, all smiles and giggling, Tommy shot a fond look at Buck, and then kissed him gently.
“What was that for?” Buck asked when Tommy pulled back.
“You should look at yourself right now.” Tommy turned Buck slowly so he could catch his reflection in the truck’s window. He looked debauched.
Buck’s lips were plumper than usual, his neck was raw and red where Tommy’s beard burned him. His shirt was very rumpled and his hair, his hair. Moreover, Buck had this look on his face. It wasn’t naughty, or purposefully misbehaved, but it was pliant, showed his hunger right there on the surface, his absence of shame.
When he caught sight of Tommy behind him in the window, he didn’t look much better. Tommy had a darker look in his eyes, and one of careful restraint, as he squared his hands on Buck’s hips. The slight shift forward made Buck brace himself against the truck with one arm. Silently, he held Tommy’s gaze through the reflection in the glass as the older man placed a tender kiss just behind his ear.
“You’ve probably found it’s very hard to resist you.” Tommy said, low, as he licked the same spot he’d just kissed seconds ago. Buck slipped a hand in Tommy’s hair and, at the same time, used his leverage on the truck’s door to grind his ass backwards into Tommy.
“Hard indeed.” Buck joked.
As if he was stuck in molasses, Tommy untangled himself from Buck with some difficulty.
“Alright let’s get you home. Because I will commit a misdemeanor if we do this much longer.”
“I’m walking you to your building’s door and that’s it, because if you invite me up, I will come.” Tommy said in mock-warning as they walked up to the front stairs of Buck’s building.
“I kinda want you to come.” Buck said with a waggle of his eyebrows, suggestiveness all but veiled.
“Look at you cracking jokes. Now, remember what you said about burning steps.”
Buck looked down, bashful. “Yeah, nothing a cold shower can’t fix.”
Tommy smiled wide. “I had a great time tonight.”
“Yeah, m-me too.”
“Is monday too soon for you?”
Buck was taken aback for a second. He hadn’t made it as far as second date in his mind. “Isn’t it your–”
“Muay Thai Monday, yeah, but Eddie’s not ready to fight. Besides, I did say I’d teach you.”
Buck grinned a toothy grin. “Yeah, t-that would be great.”
“Alright, here– just texted you my address. Bring light clothes, it’s gonna get hot. 6PM okay?”
Buck nodded dumbly, his mind still stuck on it’s gonna get hot. As the look registered on Tommy’s face, he made a summary check to see if they had any witnesses before slipping Buck a filthy kiss against the building’s glass door.
Tommy leaned their foreheads together, pulling away after what felt entirely too short of a time in Buck’s opinion. They slowly moved apart, collecting their breaths.
“Oh and,” Tommy said, biting his lip and smiling. “I’m taking a hot shower tonight.”
Buck seized up with ferocious want with what felt like the hundredth time today.
Tommy, proud of himself, started heading towards his truck, giving Buck one last leering look up and down the six-foot three-inches of him.
“Good night, Evan. See you Monday!”

---
The four of them were inseparable.
Everyone in their high school knew they were basically family.
Roman was the theater kid. Popular wasn't even the best way to describe him. Infamous was probably better. Roman was always the lead in every play. His vibrant personality and kind heart attracted everyone around him and Roman did his best to always be happy for them.
His brother, Virgil, was the well known artist of the school. He had been commissioned by their town to do art for restaurants and local businesses as well as the school itself. Being a bit of a quiet kid, Virgil depended on Roman to get him out of his shell a bit, which Roman did quite happily.
Virgil's boyfriend, Patton, was the farm boy. Raised outside of the bustling city, Patton grew up with chickens and cows as his best friends. There wasn't a farm animal alive on his grandparent's farm that Patton hadn't helped raise from birth. Patton loved all animals and shared his adoration of cats with Virgil quite closely as Patton's grandparents had commissioned Virgil to draw a portrait of Patton's barn cat, Isabella, who had recently passed away at the old age of 17. They realized they both attended Cravens Academy and now it's history.
Patton's cousin, Logan, also attends the school but he's far from the farm as that side the family runs the business aspect of the farm. Crunching the numbers and making sure the animals are provided for by scheduling food deliveries and produce sales. Logan is also the star of the debate team and is currently vice president of the student council, but everyone knows he runs the board and will eventually have the president title within the school year.
Logan has a secret the other three do not know, however. He's been pining for Roman since he met him.
In 7th grade, Patton introduced Logan to Virgil who in turn introduced Roman. Logan had been taken back by Roman's poise and elegance, and yet also frustrated by his spontaneity and unrelenting inability to say no to anyone. Logan watched as person after person abused Roman's kindness. As an upperclassman, Roman always offered to take on the bulk of the work in the theater class, but then suffer in his own schoolwork.
As the four of them sat around their shared lunch room table, Logan decided today would be the day he would put his foot down. Roman's classes were ending earlier today and he always spent every early ending day in the theater: cleaning, building sets, making outfits. Then he would suffer at home with his homework, being up until 2 or 3 in the morning to get it done. He knew this because Roman always complained about being tired the next day.
"Roman?" Logan said, interjecting his voice into Roman and Patton's conversation.
Virgil turned to give Logan an odd stare. Logan figured Virgil could read the atmosphere just from the way Logan said the theater boy's name.
"Yeah what's up Specs?" Roman questioned, taking a bite of his lunch sandwich. Even his response seemed a bit on edge at what Logan had to say.
"I think... I think you should go to study hall today instead of the theater. After lunch, I mean." Logan said carefully. As the words fell out of his mouth, Roman's eyebrows narrowed. "I just think it's high time you take care of yourself for once-”
"And just ignore all the work that needs to be done for our performance coming up?" Roman retorted. "Our showing of Into The Woods is in two weeks and we have no costumes at all. I'm the president of the club and I'm also playing the Prince. It's my responsibility to get this stuff done, Logan. We've talked about this."
Logan sighed. "I know, but--"
"No buts Logan! God, I'm so tired of you constantly pushing yourself into my life like this. Why can't I do what I want to do?!" Roman said standing up, basically shouting.
The cafeteria around them fell silent. All eyes on Roman.
"You're always mothering me! Telling me "be sure to do your school work" and "you can't always focus on theater stuff". I can do whatever I want, Logan! Just... please leave me alone." Roman said, exasperatedly, breathing heavily. "Theater is my life. The reason I work so hard is because it is my dream to perform on Broadway someday. I've told you this. Why do you insist on getting in my way?!"
Logan stood up, pressing his eyes closed to prevent tears from falling. He didn't want to see Roman's red cheeks from anger or Patton's tears or Virgil's annoyance at both of them for causing a scene and making Patton upset.
"You're right, I'm sorry." Logan murmured before immediately picking up his lunch tray and leaving the table.
The lunch bell rang out and all the students began talking again all around Logan as he turned in his tray.
The Core Four are arguing??
Since when do they argue? I've never seen Roman so mad before.
Yeah that's what Logan gets for trying to baby his friends. He has no idea what Roman tries so hard to do.
Nuh uh, Roman has no idea how hard being on the Student Council! Roman needs to listen to Logan for once!
The voices kept filtering in but it didn't matter. Logan arrived at the student council room and locked himself inside. He didn't have any classes for the rest of the day either so he figured he could get some work done as well as his homework before heading straight home.
Logan threw his bag on the nearby solo chair and collapsed onto the couch. He was joking himself if he thought he was going to get any work done now. All he wanted to do was show Roman how much he cared. But of course, Mr. Robot couldn't show feelings for another person. He has no idea how they work... right?
A knock at the door jolted him up; Logan realized he had dozed off on the couch. He glanced up at the wall to see about an hour had passed. Classes were almost over. The person knocked at the door again. Logan rushed over and looked into the peephole to see Patton standing there. He had his hoodie pulled over his head and head down facing forward. Logan sighed as he opened the door.
"Patton, I-" Logan started to say before Patton threw himself into Logan's chest, hugging him tightly. "H-hey, what-" Logan staggered to hold himself up as Patton was nearly a foot taller than him.
"It's okay, Logan. It really is. Roman just doesn't understand how much you care about him. He also doesn't realize how much he's pushing himself..." Patton said through gasping tears. "But I know how much you care for him. Try again and say it from your heart. I know he will understand." He hugged Logan tighter. "I know you love him." Patton admitted before finally taking a step back.
"I see. I'm that obvious about it." Logan responded, walking back to the couch. He put his face in his hands. "Absolutely fantastic."
Patton came over and sat down next to Logan, rubbing his back. "It's okay. It's okay." Patton whispered under his breath. Logan wasn't sure if Patton was saying it for him or just about the situation in general.
Both of them were jolted again by loud banging at the door, followed by someone trying to open the door.
"Logan!! Logan, come on you idiot, open the fucking door!!"
"Remy? What?" Logan ran up to the door, throwing it open to see Roman's theater sidekick standing there, exasperated and his eyes wide. "Remy what's wrong?" Logan asked firmly.
Remy was missing his trademark sunglasses and was in half of a costume. He was breathing incredibly hard.
"You need to come to the theater room immediately. Where's Patton? Oh okay you're here too, god just come to the theater room please god let's just go." Remy said, grabbing Logan's arm and pulling him quickly as he spoke.
The three of them ran across the school only to see a crowd of people around the entrance to the auditorium as well as ambulance lights flashing through an exterior door nearby.
"Get out of the fucking way!" Remy shouted and as if controlled, all of the students moved, allowing Remy to pull Logan and Patton through the crowd.
Logan made his way through only to see Roman laying flat on the stage of the auditorium. Virgil was at his side, running his hands through Roman's hair. The boy wasn't moving. On the other side of Roman was a paramedic who seemed to be tending to Roman.
Patton made a mad dash to the stage, leaving Logan standing in the central aisle way leading to the stage.
Remy walked up behind Logan, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"A light went out as we were rehearsing. He said he could take care of it himself and refused when we all said no. And then... he fell. He landed on his neck and head and didn't move. One of the freshman called 911 and the teachers came flooding in. Virgil happened to be nearby when everything went down. He's pretty calm despite it all." Remy explained.
Logan's eyes canvassed the area. The small group of theater students sat to the right of the stage. Some were crying; some looked very angry. Logan watched Remy rejoin his theater group.
Part of Logan wanted to move. He could see Roman laying limply in Virgil's arms. The paramedic was still talking to Virgil. Patton was now at Virgil's side. He wanted to be there. Was Roman okay? He had to be, right? There was no way anything serious was wrong. Logically, all four of them wouldn't just be sitting there if something serious happened, right?
Suddenly, Logan felt himself walking closer. As he approached he saw a bandage covering Roman's left temple. It was lightly red where blood threatened to seep through. Logan felt himself shake a bit as the paramedic's voice became audible.
"He should wake up any moment now. No reason to take him to the hospital, but like I said, it seems he hit his head hard so he might be a bit forgetful at first." The paramedic repeated. She pulled her white gloves off and disposed of them in a proper clear bag before putting it back in her bigger bag. "I'll let the teachers know he's okay. I can see he's in good hands with you." She spoke to Virgil softly, patting his shoulder.
The paramedic stood up and as she did so, Roman groaned, his left arm jerking to his bandage.
"Oh god.... I..." Roman looked up and immediately pushed his way out of Virgil's arms, spooking Virgil, Patton, and the paramedic. "Where am I? Who are you people?"
That response jolted Logan forward and up onto the stage as Virgil held his hands out to Roman, as if to show he meant no harm.
"Roman, it's me. Your little brother. It's Virgil." Virgil explained. His voice was soft as if he was speaking to a child.
"Virgil? I-I don't know you. I... who am I? Roman? Who is-" Roman was cut off by the doctor.
"Honey, do you know what day it is?" She asked simply, pulling a small penlight out of her pocket and flashing it into Roman's eyes.
"Um... not really." Roman answered, blinking. He held himself up by his arms, but Logan could see him trembling. "What's going on?"
"You took a pretty bad fall here at your school, young man." She said, pointing to the light scaffolding above them. "You're lucky you're not injured even worse. My name is Amelia. Do you know your name?"
Roman looked down and gritted his teeth. "I don't... I don't remember, I... ugh my head hurts. What happened? I can't..." Roman pulled at his hair and Amelia turned to Virgil.
"Is there someplace nearby you can take him that's quiet? He will need his rest to fully recover. I'd also recommend an appointment with his primary physician as soon as possible." Amelia explained.
Virgil nodded. "I'll tell our parents. And yeah, we can go to the nearby meeting room. It should be empty and it has a couch." Virgil walked slowly up to Roman, holding out his hand. "Hey... come with me? Please?"
Roman looked up at him, and all Logan could see was pain and confusion across his face. Logan's heart sunk. How long would Roman be this way?
After a few seconds, Roman took Virgil's hand and the purple clad boy led his brother through the backstage exit of the auditorium. Patton grabbed Logan to make sure he followed. The four of them entered the room and Patton locked the door behind them. Virgil led Roman to the couch, telling him to lay down, covering him with a nearby blanket and getting several pillows under his head for extra support.
"Roman is your name." Virgil started as he pulled up a chair. "You're my older brother by about 15 minutes. That person over there," Virgil pointed to Patton who waved, "is my boyfriend, Patton. And that," Virgil pointed to Logan, "is one of our best friends in the world. His name is Logan."
Roman scrunched his face in confusion and frustration. All of them could tell he was trying very hard to remember. After asking some vague questions, it was obvious Roman didn't remember anything at all. Virgil suggested Roman just try to relax. Roman agreed reluctantly and settled down into the pile of blankets.
Virgil stood from his seat and walked over to where Logan and Patton stood.
"I'm gonna go get his stuff and my stuff, then take him home." Virgil explained. "I also gotta call our mom. She's gonna be so mad at the school for not calling her or sending him to the hospital but we don't need that medical bill." Virgil sighed. He turned to Logan. "Can you stay with him for me? I'll be back in like 15 minutes. I want help, but someone needs to stay with him."
Logan peeked over Virgil's shoulder at Roman before he nodded. "Yes, of course."
Virgil released a long breath. "Thanks dude. We will be back." He grabbed Patton's hand and pulled him out of the room, the door slamming behind them.
Logan pushed his hair out of his face and sat down in a chair, about five feet away from Roman.
For a few moments, the only sound in the room was the ticking of the wall clock and a corner desk fan.
"So... um... Logan, right?" Roman asked as he sat up to face him.
"Yes, but you're supposed to be resting." Logan explained. "Virgil will kill me if anything happens to you."
Roman coughed a laugh. "I see. Well, he seems very kind so I'm happy about that. Anyway, I wanted to ask something..." he bit his lip before continuing. "... what's our relationship? You seem to be the most uncomfortable here but Virgil said we're best friends, right?"
Logan felt his shoulders stiffen. "Yeah, we are. Or at least I hope we are."
"Hope?" Roman responded and Logan heard his voice crack. "I hope I didn't do anything to hurt you, Logan. If so, that wasn't my intention."
Logan shrugged. "It's too much to explain to you at the moment. But we both said some things to each other at lunch today and left on not so great terms, so that's what I mean when I said I hope we were best friends."
Roman laid back onto the pillows. His eyes became half-lidded, like he was fighting off sleep. "I'm sorry, Logan. I'm sure I didn't mean it." He said barely above a whisper.
Logan stood and walked closer, leaning down to Roman's level. "You should rest. We can talk more about it later. Once you have your memory back." Logan reassured, tucking Roman in tightly. "Get some sleep before Virgil comes back. I love you."
Logan immediately realized what he had said and slapped his hand over his mouth. Roman did not move as Logan realized he had fallen asleep. His eyes were closed, his mouth partly open with his chest slowly rising and falling. Roman didn't hear him... right?
Before Logan could process the probability, the door unlocked and in came Virgil and Patton. Patton was carrying Logan's backpack and his briefcase. Virgil was on the phone.
"Yes mom. Yes... I know mom." Virgil kept repeating. "It seems Roman is resting now. I just got back to the room. I'm gonna let him sleep a bit longer before we head home. Okay. Yeah, okay, I will. Love you too." Virgil sighed as he ended the call, tucking the phone back in his pocket. "Everything alright Logan?" He asked.
Logan nodded as he took his things from Patton. "Yes, quite fine. I'm actually going to be taking my leave now. I'll see you both tomorrow. Give Roman my best."
Before Virgil or Patton could protest, Logan was out the door, making his way to the student parking area.
For the next several days of school, Roman was absent and so was Virgil. Patton told Logan that Virgil was staying home with Roman until he regained his memories since their mom couldn't take off from work and their mama was overseas for business.
One week after, Logan was sitting in the student council room, working on paperwork. He had proudly managed to get quite a bit completed. As Logan stapled a stack of papers together, a knock at the door rang out.
"Come in." Logan said as he bent over to file the packet away.
As he leaned back up, he was greeted by Roman standing in front of his desk. The boy was standing very casually with his hands in the pockets of his letterman jacket. He was grinning down at Logan.
"Roman!" Logan said, standing up. "You're back. Glad to see you're okay." He felt his face grow hot at remembering the last time he had seen Roman.
I love you.
"Yeah hey Specs. I just wanted to apologize for everything. The yelling at you in the cafeteria and all that jazz." Roman bit his cheek and scratched his head. "And also for any issues you had with my accident. I don't remember much about it, but I'm sure it was hard on you."
Logan sighed, crossing his arms. "Thank you, Roman. I am also sorry for the way I treated you that day. I need to realize you can make your own decisions and that I should support those decisions by assisting you how I can instead of just idly watching it happen."
"It's all good." Roman assured. "Also, um, I uh..." Logan's head snapped up and met with Roman's eyes. "Did you um... did you mean it?"
Logan took a sharp intake of breath. Well... shit.
"Mean what, exactly?" Logan responded.
Roman's eyes narrowed. "Feigning ignorance isn't going to help your situation, Specs. We both know what I'm talking about."
As Virgil would say, "I'm boned."
"Ah... that." Logan sat down. "What would happened if I say that I did mean it?"
Roman leaned over the desk, his eyes squinting with his lips curling into a smile. "I'd have to say I'm surprised you admitted it. As well to the fact that I remember it happening at all but..." Roman stood back up. "I would have to say it back."
Logan blinked. "Wait what? You... me... I... wait a minute-"
"The great Logan Foster is speechless? What such triumph it is for me!" Roman said happily, basically spinning around the desk to stand next to Logan. "But yes, my dear Logan, I will admit I also feel the same for you as you do I. Have for quite a long time as a matter of fact. Honestly, I've been trying to find a way to tell you, but all of my hints and flirting had failed."
Logan must've looked confused because Roman sighed loudly and unbelievably.
"You couldn't tell from the fact I bought you a dozen roses on Valentine's Day earlier this year? Or how on your birthday last year I took you to see your favorite band in concert just the two of us mind you! Also, may I say I'm surprised you wanted to see Breaking Benjamin, they don't really seem like your type of music but man they're pretty awesome, not gonna lie. And then what about the ring I gave you after the concert? Sure, it was just our birthstones but we have matching ones!" Roman stopped as Logan grabbed his shirt sleeve. The vice president didn't look up at him. "Logan?" Logan mumbled something incoherently and Roman frowned. "Come again?"
"I love you..." Logan said again, his face flushed a light pink. "Sorry I never noticed, I just thought you were being nice to me and I didn't want to read into the situation too much you know? I already do that so often. I'm sure it gets tiresome."
"No, none of that, my dearheart." Roman used his finger to get Logan to look up at him. "Your ability to understand the things around you is fascinating. You know, I realized I was in love with you almost two years ago. Virgil and Patton brought me along when they went with you for your academic team tournament thing. Seeing you up there on stage, standing your ground and firmly explaining your side of things was just... so damn attractive."
"It's called debate team but, thank you Roman." Logan said softly.
They stared into each other's eyes and Logan felt his heart begin to race. Roman was very close to him. Logan could feel his breath on his face and their noses were almost touching.
"May I?" Roman asked softly.
"You may." Logan answered.
The gap between them was closed as the two kissed deeply. Logan felt a weight falling off of his chest as Roman held him closely, running his fingers through Logan's hair. A tingle sensation flowed through Logan's feet and hands as the kiss came to an end. It was then he realized he had been smiling the whole time.
Roman reached up to push Logan's bangs out of his eyes. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that."
Logan could only laugh which caused Roman to begin snickering as well.
"Hot damn, it finally happened."
The boys turned to the doorway to see Virgil standing there with his arms crossed and Patton standing behind him grinning happily.
"This means double dates! I'm so excited! We can go to the amusement park and the movies and so much more!" Patton said excitedly.
"Pat, love, we already do that." Virgil responded and Patton frowned.
"Nooooo it's different now!! It'll be like a whole new experience!" Patton assured.
He turned to see Roman and Logan sitting on the couch, talking softly in their own little world, both smiling and holding hands.
"I'm so happy for them." Patton cooed. He reached over to hold Virgil's hand.
"Yeah, me too, Pat. Me too." Virgil agreed, squeezing Patton's hand back.

Buck (and Eddie) mini meta - 7x10 (probably but could also be 7x09!)
I was going to make a quick post about this new shirt we have bts pictures of Buck and Eddie wearing - but well, I spiralled and it turned into this!! (under the cut to save your dash!)
So let's do Eddie first shall we!!
there are actually two shirts we've got bts of Eddie wearing which have me 👀👀👀
first up is this green number we have bts of him wearing at the firehouse (not 100% sure if this is an actual costume or just Ryan's clothes but I'm fairly sure it's an Eddie outfit!)
Tumblr media
Why am I side eyeing so hard at this do you ask? well its a very similar shirt to the one we have seen him in before - in 5x13 when he has his break down. Its not the same, but similar - no cut off sleeves, but its the same army green.
Tumblr media
We see this tee at he culmination of Eddie isolating himself from the fire fam (especially Buck) through the start of 5b and then blowing up his life in 5x13 - when he trashes his room and Chris calls Buck.
I think we're about to see something similar play out in the last couple of episodes of season 7 - Eddie increasingly choosing to isolate himself from the fire fam (especially Buck) as he spirals out with this vertigo arc. Ryan has said in interviews that Eddie will be isolated by the end of the season, this costume therefore parallels Eddies arc of 5b - especially if we include the use of white on Eddie as well (and Buck in Blue in the same scene!). Eddie does something drastic and then pretends everything is ok - before proceeding to spiral out and blow up his life in some way.
5x11 - we have the aftermath of Eddie leaving he 118 - dinner with Buck and Taylor when he and Buck have a mini disagreement about Eddie coming back to work - which is preceeded by us being shown how Eddie is not actually ok - leading in to 5x13 when Eddie has his breakdown whilst wearing an army green tee and Buck breaks down the door to get to him and literally steps in to the mess, bringing the 118 into help as well (represented by Bobby being there when Eddie wakes up).
Tumblr media
Then we have season 7 - the aftermath of Eddie asking Marisol to move in with him and then it is made clear that Eddie has moved too fast, that he doesn't actually know Marisol, or ultimately feel comfortable with the relationship - and now we've watched him (still in white in the scene where he sees Kim) spiralling out and heading towards isolating himself in the same way he did in season 5. The use of a similar army green tee in 7x10 suggests that we're going to see something similar unfold as things come to a head in the vertigo arc. Im especially intrigued because Buck it seems is going to be in uniform for the scene (which side note plays into the Buck and Eddie blue green colour palette they've been using and in a reverse of the gym scene from 7x05!) we don't know where in the episode this scene falls, but my guess would be that its actually a scene from earlier in the episode - allowing for the blow up to happen and the fall out begin. (I also think this because of Helena and Ramon appearing - which I think will be later in the episode and in response to Kim's existence being more widely known about, but thats just me speculating!)
Tumblr media
We do also have the t-shirt from 7x01 - which is not the same as the other two - its darker and more brownish than the two above, but it does play into a similar narrative - Eddie finding out about Chris and his multiple girlfriends and Buck stepping in (at Eddies request this time) to help and support the Diaz boys!
Tumblr media
Eddie outfit two!
Then we have this outfit - which is contrary to popular belief, not the will reveal outfit, but actually the Ana as Eddies girlfriend reveal to Chris outfit.
Tumblr media
The two outfits are very similar, but the will reveal outfit is a navy blue shirt (which is important as it plays into both blue/green and blue/yellow theory - which gains even more significance now we know that it is likely this was meant to be the beginning of at the very least a queer narrative for Buck and the implication is that it would've been the beginning of buddie canon) this shirt and the Ana reveal shirt are both black and have silver eyelets on the shirt opening
Tumblr media
For me, the fact that it is the same outfit as that reveal rather than the will reveal is suggestive that this outfit is in some way going to be connected to the reveal of Kim. In the same way that the Ana reveal outfit is connected to two scenes
- Eddie telling Chris and the salad bowl getting smashed,
- Eddie realising Chris has gone missing only to find out he's run to Buck's
I feel like this one is also likely to be connected to two scenes - what they are and where this hospital scene fits within the wider episode, it is hard to fully form ideas on the full meaning behind the fact that he is wearing the same outfit. Because does this scene come before or after the arrival of Helena and Ramon, what is the connection to Bobby being in the hospital and Eddie wearing this outfit? My personal opiion is that this outfit is going to be involved in people finding out about Kim.
As an addition to this, we should also talk about the fact that Eddie always wears black in relation to key scenes with Marisol and Kim and it continues a trend of Eddie wearing black in key scenes in relation to his relationships.
When Eddie and Marisol meet at the hardware store he is in black, when asking her to move back out, black shirt. Then with Kim -both scenes with her when he talks to her he is in black - black shirt in the store and a black jacket when they go on their date.
He was also wearing Black in key moments with Shannon (divorce request scene as well as in flashbacks) and with Ana ( first meeting and panic attack scenes). I've spoken before about the choice to put him in a black singlet when he's in an emotionally vulnerable place, but with these additional scenes in mind, as well as the fact that we see him wearing black in the hospital during Bucks coma, as well as the fact we also get a similar shirt on Eddie back in 7x01.
Tumblr media
I think its fair to associate black more generally with Eddie being in a vulnerable place emotionally - the singlets are just worn at points when those vulnerable moments are about to tip Eddie into something stupid and this makes the use of the singlet in 7x04 for the basketball game even more interesting as it places Eddie into emotional vulnerability around Bucks bi journey and less about Bucks own emotional vulnerability - plays a little into the idea that they were going to have Eddies queer journey come before Bucks!
From a purely speculative position - my feeling is that this outfit comes after the arrival of Helena and Ramon and possibly towards the end of the episode.
The fact Eddie is wearing it at the hospital is possibly important, but I get the feeling it will be an outfit with more than one key scene attached to it (much like Eddie being in a black shirt when Buck came out to him was in two key scenes - Bucks coming out and Eddie asking Marisol to move out).
In the same way that in season 4 the Ana reveal was paired with a scene where Chris runs to Buck my feeling is that we're going to see something similar in season 7 with this - further adding to the parallels between the two seasons (see this excellent post by @iinryer for more on those!).
Part of my thinking comes from the fact we had this other bts of Buck, Eddie, Chris and Helena and Ramon. So we know that Eddie will be wearing a maroon henley for a scene in this episode.
I've spoken about Eddie wearing maroon long sleeved tops in relation to things being about Chris and Eddie parenting, and this one is likely to follow that theme, especially with Chis seemingly wearing the same outfit he was wearing when the fact he had multiple girlfriends was revealed.
The fact that buck is in a reverse outfit to the one from his discussion with Chris after that reveal (navy blue bottoms and yellow ochre top v yellow ochre bottoms and navy blue top), suggests to me that the are trying to do a couple of things here - they are flipping the scene - so it is still about a multiple girlfriends reveal, just Eddies rather than Christophers. It is also possibly a way to contrast the fact they set up Buck as sitting in parallel to Shannon (from both a costuming and directorial perspective), now they are reversing it and setting them in juxtaposition with one another - playing on the concept of one being alive while the other is dead and contrasting the actual reality of Eddies life with Eddies rose tinted version of things - the version he's trying to recreate with a doppelgänger.
Tumblr media
Onto Buck
The shirt that changes colour depending on which picture you look at - is it brown and cream or dark greyish brown and blue/grey?!!
My personal feeling is that it will look more brown and cream on camera, but that we might see a little bit of the blue pinstripe come through! This means we need to not only look at Buck in pinstripes, but also when he has worn brown!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So lets look at when we've seen Buck wear brown!
We have 2x05 - a scene where Maddie is ranting about Gloria calling her constantly. In this scene Buck is in a brown marl tee (you'll have to take my word for it - I ran out of pictures and this one was the least important!), personally I don't think it fits into the narrative as it is a tee rather than a shirt or jacket, so I'm not including it in my wider anaylsis!
We get Brown sports jacket Buck - in 3x04 when he delivers the results of the 118's assessment and discovers Lena filing his space - Buck gets jealous and a little mad. (had to include the still where Edie is checking out Bucks ass because it will never not be funny and now has the added layers to it`!)
Tumblr media
one episode later and we get more brown in the divorced buddie era 1.0 supermarket arguement of 3x05.
Tumblr media
Things go quiet on the brown front for Buck until 4x14 and the 'it would've been better if it had been me who got shot' scene - this is is a borderline brown - it sits in the yellow ochre spectrum, but is closer to brown than yellow! This, like the last tine he wore brown, comes in the aftermath of Buck doing something stupid (climbing the crane)
Tumblr media
Then Buck doesn't wear any brown in season 5, so its on to season 6 where we have 6x04 and this russet brown (which is a reddish brown) which Buck wears when Connor pays him a visit regarding the sperm donation.
Tumblr media
Then later in the same season - 6x18 - we have the most recent Buck in brown sighting - when he is talking to Connor once more about Kameron being at his loft. with the added bonus of this being veritcally ribbed making it look like stripes!
Tumblr media
As you can see we only see Buck wear brown in very specific moments and they tend to come in pairs - we get bright russety browns in the build up to Buck doing something stupid followed by a darker more muddy brown in the aftermath (in both s2 and s6). Only the one from season 4 doesn't fit the pattern as it doesn't have a pair.
But while events in seasons 3 and six are essentially of Bucks making - he sets things in motion - season 4 is not - Buck is not the instigator, he is a bystander dropped into the middle of something, if anything the fact his brown has yellowish undertones plays into its having a reverse effect - that it is the same as the russet browns - setting something in motion, but its pair is the brighter yellow ochre shirt from the will reveal - which sits in opposition to the darker browns - its not something Buck needs or wants to try and fix - its more of an affirmation of Bucks belonging and not something he needs to fight for.
I've spoken before in various meta's about brown being a colour of stability support and protection. it is also a colour of wisdom and counsel - and I think all of these will come into play with this new shirt in some capacity, because to put Buck in brown at this point is definitely a choice with intention behind it.
Now onto Buck in vertical stripes!
We'll do the light ones first. It's still insane to me that the first time we ever see Buck in vertical stripes is the shooting scene in 4x13.
Tumblr media
Then ten episodes later, in 5x13 we see the next white striped shirt and its when Taylor is moving into the loft. These are the only two we have in a white and black/grey colour way.
Tumblr media
The next time we see light stripes is in 6x01 - only now they are cream and blue rather than white and black/grey - when Buck moves his armchair and decides he doesn't need a couch .
Tumblr media
Followed by 6x08 when Buck is in Uncle Buck mode and looking after Jee and being given the run around by her - again cream and blue.
Tumblr media
The last Buck in light shirts with stripes sighting is from 7x05 - when he meets with Tommy for coffee, this time its cream with black and red stripes.
Tumblr media
Then we have a couple of outliers - this light blue jacket from 6x01
Tumblr media
and this grey one from 6x09
Tumblr media
Then we have the dark ones!
This one from 4x14 when Taylor appears back on his doorstep after the shooting and kissing him
Tumblr media
This one from 5x09 - the most awkward 'I love you' scene in the history of mankind
Tumblr media
6x04 when he tells Conor and Kameron that he will be their sperm donor
Tumblr media
in 6x07 we get two - both when he is trying to donate sperm and not being successful in this endeavour
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in 6x17 we see him in this shirt when Maddie comes by for help with getting her stuck engagement ring off
Tumblr media
and finally we have Buck and Tommys first date - which ends in failure.
Tumblr media
and now we have a brown and cream/blue one joining the mix!
I've written before about Bucks vertically striped shirts - in various episode metas, as well as a separate post which is linked on my pinned post under Buck, But I'm going to talk about them again because he just keeps on wearing them at really interesting moments!
Buck seems to wear them at moments when he is essentially ‘imprisoned’ by something mentally - at moments when he either steps forwards or backwards in his self development, or stays in stasis - and which of these it is, is determined by the colour of the shirt and the stripes. The lighter ones are connected to moving forward and ultimately escaping, while the darker ones are about Buck being trapped and moving in the wrong direction.
Starting with the white shirts - I know on the face of it, it isn't easy to see either of the white shirts with black pinstripes as Buck moving forward, but while the scenes they are worn in themselves may not seem to be freeing, the resulting actions - the will reveal for the first one and the second one reveals Bucks true thoughts on his and Taylors relationship and thus marks the beginning of the end, I mean obviously the kiss is the actual moment that marks the beginning of the end but this moment - when he is talking to Maddie, the audience is made aware that Buck really and truly isn't all in with Taylor and that he has imprisoned himself - his ability to recognise that - the fact he is able to verbalise that he is afraid of being left - that is the moment of growth and escape for him.
The unhappy moments, the moments when he is regressing or clinging are signified by the black shirts with white or silver pinstripes.
With Taylor the two scenes we get black shirts with pinstripes are connected to Buck being in trauma response mode - the first in the aftermath of the shooting - starting a relationship when he's in a super raw place - his best friend has been shot and he's looking after said best friends son and climbing cranes to try and protect the rest of his found family (also adding Maddie's impending PPD to this as well as the Daniel of it all although those are less central in this moment in time).
Then the second one comes in the 'I kinda love you for it' scene - and off the back of Buck feeling and fearing that he is being left - that Taylor is pulling away from him.
The three all connected to the sperm donation all play into the narrative that Buck hasn't thought the sperm donation through fully - that the universe is screaming at him and he's trapping himself in a prison - we do see some of that play out as the season progresses when he becomes embroiled in Conor and Kameron's marriage and pregnancy dramas when his part in it all should've been done.
The scene with the stuck ring is a scene very much about Maddie but Buck does drop himself in it on two fronts - the ring cutter and in letting Maddie know that Hen and Chim had an arguement over Chim proposing to Maddie.
Buck and Tommys first date - again a prison of Bucks own making - this shirt very much plays into the disastrous nature of the date - with Bucks 'I'm and Ally' and comment about going to 'find chicks'
Then we have the shirts that somewhere in the middle. - the blue one from 6x01 where we have a Buck doing some mental self torture trying to work out why he’s been passed over for the interim Captain job but finally figuring it out,
The three cream ones are all essentially the cure for the previous, darker stripes - they play into the idea that Buck is learning and growing - in a way he wasn't when it was just black and white shirts and stripes from seasons 4 and 5 when we got a white shirt followed soon after by a black shirt (4x13 - White - 4x14 - black) or vice versa (5x09 - black - 5x13 - white).
We have 6x01 with the blue then cream - Buck in a mental prison around what he wants in life, but choosing to embrace being on his own and seeing where life takes him by the end of the episode. 6x04 and 6x07's navy blues connected to the sperm donation arc followed by 6x08's cream and blue one of the very real children in his life - one who he gets to be an active part of watching grow up. 7x04's navy date shirt one followed by 7x05's cream, black and red shirt when Buck requests and is granted a do over with Tommy
So how is this brown and cream one going to fit in? Well that is the million $$$$ question isn't it! My feelings are that it's going to fit in with the pattern and have a reverse one to go with it. Now I have two theories - the first is that its actually the brown pair to the one from season 4 - that its going to connect into Buck's statement that it would've been better for Chris if he'd been the one hurt - and therefore connect into the will of it all, playing on the concept of Chris (and Buck) finding out about Kim - connecting Eddies outfit into the equation - and lead to Buck once again stepping up to look after or support Chris in some capacity (maybe we'll get a parallel of Chris running to Buck after finding out about Ana and have Chris running to Buck after finding out about Kim, who knows!).
The other option is that we'll only see the pair to this brown striped shirt later down the line - whether we see that before the end of the season or have to wait for the start of season 8 I do't know - it really depends on how they close out this season and the Buck and Eddie arcs.
I'd like to think the fact that its brown and therefore means stability, support, protection and wisdom, means that it will be connected to Buck discovering Eddies cheating and then stepping up to support him and Chris through the fall out (after perhaps taking a moment to consider things) and that it is tied into the season 4 parallels, but I guess we'll all have to wait and see!
Essentially all of Bucks striped and or brown tops have a pair and play on the idea of light and dark to varying degrees as well as the concept of being trapped or imprisoned by some form of traumatic event.
Hopefully this makes sense and that you've enjoyed reading this deep dive into Bucks stripes and Eddies wearing of black! I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I am having a lot of thoughts about the Christopher of it all right now in light of this bts we got from Gavin!!!
Tumblr media
Because - Mountains and rock climbers and forests!!!
Look I've already climbed onto the Eddie and mountains to climb train in this post here but I'm about to make it a Diaz boys have mountains to climb train!!!
So Eddie now has a photograph - in black and white - of Half Dome on his bedroom wall - right above his bed
Tumblr media
And then he has a lone cowboy on a horse - on the opposite wall - a cowboy on a horse in a flat landscape (which is yellow/orange - and with the blue walls also therefore plays into yellow blue theory)...
Tumblr media
...and there is just something about Eddie sitting in his bed - looking at a picture of what is essentially a lone ranger in a barren landscape, on a wall that Buck helped him repair, while behind him is this looming mountain that is notoriously difficult to climb - the thing he can see when he is having sex with M - upside down.
The rest is under the cut because being brief is not my wheelhouse!!
Something about playing into the idea that Eddie has been this lone ranger in a barren landscape - searching for something - an something about how that search in this barren landscape is hiding (happening) the holes in the wall that Buck helped him patch up - something about how he feels alone even though the help he needed and wanted is already there - just hidden out of sight.
How that mountain is looming behind him also out of sight. How Eddie is in t his good place right now, but there are still mountains for him to climb - how those mountains are connected to his past.
There is also something in the choice of black and white for the image - something about the thing Eddie needs to deal with - the mountain he needs to climb is black and white - Obvious - not a complex myriad of colour (something something about his catholic guilt being obvious - black and white - something about it being a part of him that is finite and defined and not changeable - something like being gay perhaps!!)
Then there is the fact that we can make a fair assumption, based on the fact that we were shown Buck helping him fix the holes, that Buck helped Eddie with all of the redecorating - that he helped him paint the room (and choose the lovely duck egg blue colour), helped him hang the pictures - helped him choose the artwork for his walls - implicitly tying Buck to that mountain - that his feelings etc tied to Buck are his mountain still to climb. The thing with this as a concept is that it also plays into the upside down on the bed with Marisol - things being wrong or upside down/ backwards with her - that the spectre of Buck looms large over their relationship.
The otehr thiing I'd like to point out is kind of the biggest thing of them all and plays into the two cut lines and red string of fate of it all. Because Half Dome has a permanent cable tether for climbers attempting to summit to use and the metaphor of that is fascinating to me. There is something in the idea of Eddie feeling untethered, but also in Eddie not fully trusting he has a tether. How Eddie still hasn't fully grasped the permanence of Buck in the Diaz family's life - in Eddies life. Eddie needs to scale that mountain and buck is metaphorically speaking the half dome permanent cable run. Eddie might've made him a permanent fixture from a legal perspective - but that was for Chris, not for him (and Chris has already figured out Bucks permanence if you ask me - he already ran to Buck and opens up to him in a way he can’t with his father) but Eddie still doesn’t fully trust that the support he has in his life through Buck is permanent rather than a temporary tether. Eddie is almost there - but not quite - it feels like there is something in Bucks coming out to him that will be the catalyst for him to figure that out (don't ask me what or how - I haven't figured that bit out yet but it has something to do with the whole nothing has changed between us and Eddies dawning realisation of that that gives him his own confidence to make changes in the same way Buck has!)and start his climb so he can explore the mountain (his queerness) safely.
But back to Christophers t-shirt and how it fits into everything. Christopher has his own mountains to climb - dealing with his feelings of being abandoned by his mom - by being abandoned by the women in his life - because we need to remember that Abuela is also now absent from his life as she is now back in Texas. How Ana also left and how we've very much not been shown Carla at all (or had mention on her I think) this season. we can even, by virtue of the relationship Chris and Buck share, include Taylor leaving (being kicked to the curb) as part of the list of women exiting his life in some way.
Bringing up Shannons letter and having Chris read it at the very start of the season, for me is a clear indicator that that is the arc he is going to go through this season - that while there are still elements of the Shannon of it all in Eddies story, it is actually Christopher who needs to let that ghost go and move forward, not Eddie.
911 loves to play with imagery - they excel at it in the Diaz house, and I talk about how the kids costuming on the show is always so deliberately chosen to reflect their arcs, Especially with Chris. So here we have Chris in a t-shirt with mountains, trees and climbers on - setting up the idea of exploring him climbing that mountain he has to climb, but also playing on the idea that he's a bit caught in a forest as well - cannot see the wood for the trees. It a great metaphor for his current abandonment issues - because he is still a bit too young to fully comprehend that some people are not meant to stay in your life in a permanent way or that sometimes, just because they are not physically present in a regular way, doesn't mean they have abandoned you. Hell that is a difficult thing for many adults to comprehend, so to ask a kid to - especially one who's hormones are starting to go crazy - is never going to be practical.
The fact they’ve very deliberately not shown him actually interacting with with Marisol before now - establishing her as existing in Christopher’s world but not actively being a part of it - really ensuring to set her apart and off to the side - apart form establishing the contrast between Shannon and Marisol, is so interesting and feels, to me at least, like it’s building up to possibly playing into some version of the idea of you’re not my mother etc etc. They've taken great care to establish Shannon as Christophers mother - that she is still a major presence in his life, even in her absence.
They're is also something in the way that the idea of Marisol being 'portrayed' (can't think of the right word but I hope you know what I mean) as essentially a babysitter - we've never been shown them interacting - just told that Eddie has been getting her to babysit and in tv show land if you want to tell the audience that two characters have a good relationship (of whatever form) - you show it - you don't allude to that relationship as existing - especially when you are developing a narrative around a child's fear of being abandoned by the women in his life - not showing her looking after Chris before this point, and after you have established said abandonment issue, just reenforces the nature of their relationship - that it is one Chris is not likely to be engaging in - because she's going to leave anyway so what is the point of getting attached.
Now this is interesting because it feeds into Eddies arc rather nicely - its an arc they have already established with the audience - his jumping in too quickly and without thinking things through properly. it also plays back into an already existing arc - the one where he does things for Christopher and not for himself. they are to all intents and purposes the same thing. Eddie lets Shannon back into his life - for Christopher, he re-proposes not for himself, but for Christopher and the second baby he thinks is coming, he starts dating Ana for Christopher not for himself, he Makes Buck Christophers legal guardian for Christopher (even though at this point we don't know if Chris knows this fact), yes a part of that id for himself as well, but it is predominately for Chris. Eddie asking Marisol to move in - almost immediately in the aftermath of Chris revealing to Buck that he feels abandoned by his mom and that is where his multiple girlfriends/ becoming a player is coming from - how it is having an impact on who he is becoming as a person (one who things women leave and therefore treats them as temporary), is Eddie doubling down on his relationship with Marisol as a way of giving Christopher a female who is present. The entire thing - Eddie - in therapy and healing and now in a place where he thinks his issues with Ana and becoming a ready made family etc are 'dealt with' and in the past - hearing Chris talk about Shannon that way and to then have his immediate response be to go one step further than he managed with Ana - to ask M to move in - to essentially create something permanent - the whole going with is gut - despite his own feelings and thoughts on the matter - boils down to him still doing things for Chris’s happiness and not his own feels kind of loud. Because that is what his gut tells him - double down and sacrifice yourself and your own happiness for Christopher.
on the subject of guts - its very clearly a major theme for the Diaz boys this season, the show has been using the Diaz house to great effect already on this front.
Christophers homework that he was doing in episode 1 - all aobut guts
we had him studying blood types and transfusions
Tumblr media
the function of kidneys and the nephron (literal guts!!)
Tumblr media
and then - when he's read Shannons letter - frog dissection - again literally looking at guts
Tumblr media
then from up coming episodes - thanks to Jihanes bts content we know that the fridge has the following charts on it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All things related to the gut and gut health. something something about Eddies heart having been worked on and now his gut is next in line to be sorted out. Especially as catholic guilt is something that plays into the idea of being something you feel in your gut rather than heart or head - related.
And there is also something in relation to the catholic guilt of it all and Eddies gut and Chris feeling like women don’t stay thats in play with Eddies relationship with his mother - that she's stayed too present in his life and that she treated him is such a contradicting way - the juxtaposition of not letting him be a kid whilst he was a kid - needing him to be the man of the house in his fathers absence whilst then not letting him grow up/ treating him as a child when he became an adult - and dominating (or trying to) his life and how he (and Shannon) raised Christopher.
Because it is fair to assume that it was Helena who took Eddie to church every Sunday and who was predominately responsible for his religious up bringing (we don't know how long Ramon was away for but to me at least it feels implied that his business trips would be for several weeks or months at a time and then he would return home for a period before disappearing again) an therefore much of his catholic guilt is attached to her and how if they are going in the catholic guilt/queer repression direction it is Helenas forceful personality that kept him in the closet even if he managed to step back from Catholicism
Something something about hearts and guts and minds being concepts of the human condition that are so intricately intertwined and needing to be in balance - how Eddies heart has been looked at and worked on (his relationship with his father), how his gut needs to be worked on now (which is related to his mother) and then finally his mind - Eddie needing to learn to communicate and talk things through with people rather than burying it - something he cant do until he has worked through is catholic guilt and his letting his gut rule his decision making (even though it rarely pans out for him) - much like his mother has ruled over his life in one way or another until recently.
Something something about that being a mountain they are both climbing - but in different ways and therefore separately and it all comes back to them not talking - Eddie not talking to his son (he even had Buck have that initial conversation with him rather than do it himself) there is still so much misunderstanding between the Diaz boys!
Wow I did not mean for this to get long!!!! Hopefully it makes sense!!
it may just be the incoherent ramblings of a woman obsessed with the way they are picking a part Eddie and putting him back together - endlessly fascinating to me!!

Helena in pink - innocence and naivety - has me 👀👀👀
And then you combine it with Ramons check shirt 👀👀👀
In my opinion Eddie diaz is about to have his naive thoughts about Shannon - those rose tinted glasses he has on - ripped away and a few home truths delivered to him by the Diaz parents

Any thoughts about the bt stills apart from the green shirt of doom (YAY🥳)? I'm intrigued that for once we have Buck standing and timtam sitting down - has that happened before?
Hey!!
I have so many thoughts - mostly about the green shirt, the triangle of jars in front of Buck and the fact the bike appears to have been replaced by a coat rack which I am very intrigued about!
I’m loving the dark green shirt - which is a size too big for him - its a case of almost fitting but not quite - I have another ask in my inbox where I’ll go into a bit more detail on that Buck costume specifically as I have many thoughts
I don’t remember having Tommy sat and Buck standing before for a scene- which is interesting - very interesting! It suggests to me that we might be getting a shift in the power dynamic - that Buck is no longer going with the flow, letting Tommy lead, but is now standing up for what he wants and needs. If this is the case, it’s a great thing as it suggests Buck actually taking ownership of his life and the relationships he’s in - perhaps the end of Buck falling into relationships with no idea how he got there is in sight!
But yeah - I am very excited to see how this episode plays out - the costumes are promising and the set changes are intriguing - fingers crossed for a closer look at Bucks fridge and all the pictures that are now on there!

That cut off tee has be feeling g a lot of ways.
We haven’t seen Buck in a cut off tee since his posturing at Eddie in the firehouse gym wayyyyyy back in 2x01
I don’t know why but that fact and the fact that this might very likely be from ep 100 is giving me how it started how it’s going vibes - there’s just something about the idea of them playing into Bucks jealousy and it making him do stupid things (like sprain someone’s arm or whatever injury he causes).
It’s the combination of the cut off tee that connects to the jealous posturing, the water theme and the construction on sunset theme all being put together in one scene that has me feeling things.
Idk i can’t articulate it right now

So from what we can see in that still - we have blue shorts grey cut off hoodie guy and then Buck being the only one in white. Everyone else is in black. A very silhouette like.
Excuse the terrible zoomed in screen grab 😎
Tumblr media
So blue shorts guy is the one who’s probably gonna get injured because he’s the only one in colour. He does kinda look like Ryan so it’s possible it’s Eddie. (I’m not saying it is Eddie - it could be Tommy or someone we’ve not even met yet!) The outfit isn’t exactly screaming Eddie at me (ngl the top is giving me Ryan in step up vibes 😂) but it could be intentional for reasons we can only determine when we see the actual scene. The thing this costume does is single that person out - they are completely separate from everyone else
Because even Buck is in some black. The white is what also distinguishes him from the crowd. Now black and white is an interesting choice - it’s very contrasty and is potentially playing on the idea of Buck always seeing things very black and white and being an unreliable narrator - because he can’t see nuance (the million shades of grey in between) - which would play very nicely into him blaming himself for the basketball accident that’s about to befall someone.
The other mini connection that we might see come into play (and adds credence to divorce era 2.0) is that black top with white (shiny) shorts is very Eddie fight club -

7x05 promo meta
Thank you 911 for dropping those stills - its save you all from my terrible quality screen shots!
This was supposed to be a costume meta, and it is, but things rather got away from me so its got a bit of a mishmash of spec and the like in it! its probably incoherent but my brain is whirring!
Ok first things first - Firehouse!
Soooo whenever we've had firehouse scenes before between Buck and Eddie, the one not in uniform is the one receiving advice - Buck after he found out about Daniel, Eddie during the Black out etc. So I expect this scene to play to a similar theme.
The green jacket for Buck is an interesting one for me, green is all about growth - especially this shade of green. I think this scene will be the first time Buck and Eddie see one another in person - Buck perhaps re-apologising to Eddie, clearing the air, Eddie offering buck some advice (i don't know exactly what advice, but perhaps along the lines of not bottling things up and talking to him etc!).
The fact its a broadcloth jacket harks back to his shirt jacket from Eddies breakdown - that one was very red, so there's no direct connection to the meaning of that jacket from a colour theory perspective, but there is a wider theme connecting to the broadcloth - broadcloth is a fabric that was historically used for military uniforms (it still is) so the use of broadcloth has this element of going to war - unlike the red jacket that signalled danger and Buck going to 'war' to both get to Eddie and to then help him in the aftermath, this one is more likely to be a war related to Bucks 'bad behaviour' from the basketball game and I think and with the green of the jacket meaning growth, I expect this scene to show them on a more even footing - one where the one doesn't need to go to war for the other, because the 'war' is over, this is the aftermath now and Buck has grown (in the same way that Eddie was in green during and after his breakdown - he grew from that moment)
Tumblr media
Date night - for Buck and Tommy
Tumblr media
Firstly I want to mention the fact that Check theory is in overdrive for this scene - the check is literally everywhere - floor, tablecloths, walls, windows, the guy sat to the side of Tommy. Something is clearly going to happen that is going to lead to some sort of chaos. My money is on Check shirt guy suddenly becoming ill and interupting both dates (call back to Buck choking on bread would be chefs kiss imo as that was Bucks first proper date!!).
I originally thought his was the same shirt Buck wore when he was trying to donate sperm - however, turns out it isn't it isn't, this is a knit bowling shirt while the one from the sperm donation storyline was a knit polo (no buttons all the way down the front). I do think the remarkable similarity between the two shirts is relevant though. because Buck trying to donate sperm, was Buck trying to start a new life, but it was a false start when he was wearing the similar shirt (because the power was out at the clinic) and he is essentially doing the same thing here - he's on his first 'date with a dude' and is starting a new life as a bisexual man - only it seems he's probably going to try and hide it from Eddie - thus a false start in the same way his first attempt to donate sperm was. thing is, Buck was successful in making his donation in the end, so even if he has a couple of false start in this episode, he'll be successful in the end (see the end of this meta for the reason why!!)
Tommy is in brown (possibly a dark olive green, but it looks more brown to me at this moment in time!). Brown is of course one of Eddies staple colours, so we are continuing with the Tommy Being costumes as a version of Eddie!
But Brown is a colour of stability and strength - its solid ground. It's showing us that Tommy is completely comfortable in his sexuality (whatever denomination of queer he is as we don't know at this point!). Its also a colour of safety support and protection (its why many police and military uniforms around the world are brown - meant to invest a sense of protection - a reflection of what that job is supposed to be!). for me thats playing on the idea that Tommy is going to protect and support Buck on this date - Buck not wanting to come out to Eddie in that moment and Tommy supporting that and protecting Bucks right to chose when and how he gets to come out to the people in his life (and I adore him for that!) is my guess on why he's wearing brown here.
Tumblr media
Eddie and Marisol's date night
(as an aside - Bucks face in the still below is hilarious!!)
Tumblr media
I already mentioned the pink handbag in my 7x04 meta, but now we also have a pink skirt to add into the mix and its a ditsy print of two shades of pink, which not only further supports my pink and innocence theory about this season, but it also plays into how both Shannon and Ana were costumes as well - in lots of pink and in ditzy prints!!! Marisol (who doesn't even have a last name) is not long for the world of 911 - if it doesn't end in this episode, its gonna be over very very soon! She is going to essentially be an innocent bystander in whatever the hell is going to go down at this date night fun house we're about to see, whether her seemingly naive personality (well what little personality she seems to have!) plays into things as well, we'll have to wait and see!
The other aspect of this outfit that is making me laugh is the fact that the skirt is giving me 1980's/early 1990's teen vibes (not to out myself as old but trust me I had some just like this back then and I wouldn't be caught dead in it now as a grown woman!!) and the baby pink handbag looks like something an 8 year old would have to play dress up with - its all very childish and immature - naive one could say, and its suggesting to me that we're going to see some pretty childish behaviour from her at some point in this episode (we'll have to wait and see if I'm right!). The other aspect oof this childish style we're seeing on her plays into Eddies narrative of looking for magic and trying to recreate what he had with Shannon. Its for me one of the reasons why i think we have s2 Eddies hair back, especially this greased back version in this scene - its a nod to his s2 arc when he tried to recreate the magic with Shannon. Eddies journey is about learning that he cannot recapture or recreate that magic he had when he was young - that the love of youth - in all its innocence is not something that is sustainable or actually what he wants in the present. for me, him figuring this out is an important part of his wider un-repression arc and will allow him to move forward and learn that he needs to build a relationship on a stronger foundation that magic and innocence. That (ghost of a) second chance with Shannon ended up as a literal car crash (sorry to be blunt but it was a metaphor back then too!) so my feeling is that this is going to go the same way - and end in a figurative (at least) car crash.
As for the chain necklace! you can read my 6x15 metas for a fuller run down this one is the most comprehensive one (and theres some stuff lurking on other meta posts as well) but essentially every single one of Buck or Eddies girlfriends have worn a chain necklace (there is also a bracelet too, which I think Marisol wore in 7x01 but her scene was so blink and you'll miss it that I can't get a good still to be sure!) of this style - I never did get to writing the full meta on the chain necklaces I intended - the season 6 finale rather deflated my enthusiasm to do so, but I can talk about it here so, things worked out I guess!
Chains are a representation of incarceration, or of holding something back. they are a huge symbol of slavery and are used in derogatory terms when used to talk about relationships (the old ball and chain etc). This is why we see them on all the women connected to either Buck or Eddie, and never on any of the other female characters in the show - these women are essentially holding Buck and Eddie back, they are chains to be broken free of.
Tumblr media
Then we have Eddie in his white shirt! There are a couple of reasons I am completely in love with this choice! firstly is the most obvious, it paints things very black and white for Eddie and Marisol - they are opposites! In this context, the wardrobe department are deliberately creating that opposition between them - and in combo with that pink bag and skirt - things aren't going to end well for them.
Black is a colour that sucks light and colour from things (yes there is the concept of the little black dress etc for dating but thats more about timeless elegance and Marisol is not wearing a black dress!) that absorbs everything around it - you can see in the picture below how the black of her top is absorbing the colour while Eddies white shirt is bouncing it around and glowing with the red - its especially obvious on her sleeve which is partially sheer and partially matt - the sheer parts are picking up the light, making the black non sheer parts still look black.
The other reasons I am living for the Eddie in a white shirt of it all is the fact that it really highlights that red lighting - this use of red - in this setting at that moment - when it doesn't appear to be anywhere else in the scene and certainly not around Buck and Tommy - can only mean danger and anger. Its telling us that Eddie is not happy - jealous definitely (that look is one of jealousy!) its also hinting at underlying anger though. My thoughts on this is that its playing into Eddie having to face up to his feelings for Buck - that he understands them, and perhaps feels like he missed his shot
Tumblr media
The other reason I'm obsessed with the choice to put Eddie in a white shirt is this ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
Tumblr media
Because yes that is Eddie in white and Buck in dark blue, and yes that is the only other time we've seen Eddie in white in the entire show (excepting white shorts in fight club and even they fit the theme we're seeing here). Seeing them in the same colour ways here is very much giving Buck and Eddie divorce era 3.0 (fight club/lawsuit was 1.0 and the one above was 2.0) vibes.
Having dinner with Buck (or in the same space as Buck) and his current partner and the blue and white (and green that Tommy is wearing which matches the green that Taylor was wearing) is definitely a choice. This scene in season 5 was essentially a Buck and Eddie break up - 'move on Buck, I have' - we all know how that spiral ended - with Eddie digging in with his leaving the 118 and excluding himself from the firefam and Buck cheating on Taylor and asking her to move in with him.
thing is Eddie has form for doing dumb things when he feels under stress or pressure (asking Shannon to marry him again, fight club after her death and Buck suing the firehouse, leaving the 118 and not getting the help he needed until he had a major breakdown to name 3!)- so if we saw some kind of parallel to this scene - (this is especially in light of Eddie talking to Bobby about the job in this episode) where Eddie doubles down on a poor decision (don't know what but I'm currently speculating that its maybe asking Marisol to move in with him way way too soon - when he doesn't know her - hello episode title) in the same way Buck did with Taylor (because he is faced with the fact he could've had a chance with Buck after-all and is emotionally cheating on Marisol) and it plays into
I'm not saying we're going to be getting rid of Marisol in 7x05 (unfortunately) but I am saying the writing is on the wall for that relationship - there are too many costuming signs on both Eddie and Marisol for it not to be headed in the direction of ending. My guess from what I'm seeing with these costumes and that lighting, is that 'Ghost of a second chance' is when it will come to a head - it plays into the theming of Shannon redux and car crashes, learning from past mistakes before you repeat them.
And finally we're at Bucks loft!
Not saying this is at the end of the episode - I have zero idea where its going to land - every time I see a new still from it I'm more confused and decide its going to be at a different point of the episode!
Anyway, thats not important! Eddie is in his Buck 'date night' shirt - the one he wears when he has serious talks with Buck in the loft. thing that is different this time, is the fact he's in jeans rather than the green trousers he's worn on every other occasion. Something about that is making me feel like, while this scene is likely to be similar in that its going to be a serious talk, and I'm sure from the way it looks in the stills we're going to see Eddie reassuring Buck as we have in previous scenes, I think we might find this one is going to give us Buck and Eddie on a more even footing that we've seen before.
Tumblr media
I'm fascinated that the Christopher watch is not visible in the above still, but it's very visible in the below one, and in the other stills we've got. We don't often see it hidden under eddies sleeves - we usually see it more like we can see it in the date night stills - visible with the shirt slightly tucked underneath. haven't figured out if its going to be significant or not yet - I need to see the scene!
We do have to talk about the looks they are giving each other here though - especially Buck!!! because I mean!!!! its kind of giving me don't keep things from me again vibes!!

I am very much loving that they put Buck in this jumper though! it is the one from the sperm donor storyline - when Buck tells Eddie, Hen and Chim he is 'responsible for creating new life.' I love this specific parallel because there is the play on the fact that Buck is now living a new life - that he's figured something out about himself - that he's creatinga new life forhimself - one where he is bisexual, and openly so (as we know he's going to tell people in this episode and hell he might be telling Eddie in this scene!). the other thing is that this light blue colour, throughout season 6 became a real representation of Buck journey of self discovery - all the way back to Lev at the happiness convention and his year of yes, right through to post Lightning strike Buck who was trying to wrestle with his death and his rebirth - the light blue here really ties all of this together beautifully

Right thats All at this point - I'm sure my brain will conjure up other things once i've hit post, but for right now - I'm off to bed!!
