I feel like I'm gonna rattle a few cages here but can we please talk about how much it sucks as a young person still trying to avoid Covid seeing all your previous role models not give a fuck anymore.
Like yes I'm talking somewhat about teachers and people in the community who you look up to as a kid. Who you used to think were all knowing and kind and considerate. Maybe they were even the people who taught you about basic biology or critical thinking or historical periods of eugenics.
But mostly I'm talking about the music artists and youtubers and other influencer-type people. The ones who built careers off of telling teenagers that "everything seems doomed now but you can get through this" and "fuck the people who think you're weird, you're infinitely valuable." The ones who told us we weren't alone and who we clung to through waves of utter hopelessness and self hatred and suicidal ideation.
Now where are they? At best, they're ignoring the ongoing pandemic. Not bothering to use their huge platforms to speak out about the continued mass death and disablement. Never putting a penny towards Long Covid research. More often than not, they're hosting sell out tour shows and meet and greets in places around the world. In simple terms: superspreader events. And not a single thought about or mention of mitigation.
Like. Okay, even if we work on the assumption that Covid is only dangerous for already sick/disabled people (it's not). That's bullshit. Everyone matters right? We're all important and our mental health is important. But fuck us if we want to be included right? Fuck us if we want to see the people who dragged us kicking and screaming through adolescence with the promise itll get better. They don't give a fuck if their shows lead to permanent disablement or death, so long as there's money in their pockets.
I mean sometimes, sometimes these people seem to care about other causes. They post about Palestine. They talk about gay rights. Gotta keep up the good image. But as soon as they have to look beyond the surface level atrocity- to see that disease is part of the gazan genocide or that systemic inequalities still mean LGBT people are at higher risk of Long Covid- they squeeze their eyes shut.
So yeah, in conclusion, fuck these people. They're hypocrites, and seeing the way their behaviour has evolved has created its own layer of pandemic grief.

Children of September 11
Shadows in the sky so high As the towers screamed to the ground Fear in the eyes of a child Echoes of silence all around
World turned to gray that day Memories in a young heart stay Flames and smoke lit up the screen Haunting dreams don't fade away
[Chorus] Hearts breaking everywhere Lives lost in the burning air I can't forget the screams and fire Living now in fear's desire
8 years old with eyes so wide Innocence lost deep inside Watching the world come crashing down Nowhere safe in my hometown
[Bridge] Years pass but the scars remain Living through this endless pain Trying to heal what's broken within Strength to rise and begin again
[Chorus] Hearts breaking everywhere Lives lost in the burning air I can't forget the screams and fire Living now in fear's desire

INFP Musings (90s Kids Edition)
Hello Friends, It appears that I have been lost in the vortex that is being in a nostalgic mood on this beautiful Friday. I don't know why, is it that 2023 is coming soon and I realize that I am a 90s kid in their 30s, wondering where the time went when it feels like yesterday my biggest worry was that the movie I wanted was at Blockbuster? Or the hopes that I could find the perfect Lisa Frank folder to hold my homework? Or getting a sticker from the coin machine at the store? Or not being able to contain my excitement knowing that at about this time I would be excited for the next morning of cartoons and hanging out with my friends all leading up to sitting in front of the TV yet again to see what shenanigans Kenan and Kel would get into or the silly antics of All That. Friday was the day that I loved, it was the key to the weekend. Especially in the 90s. I remember being carefree and having well... more energy. I miss those days, the simplicity of it all. Taking all of those things totally for granted because getting older was so far away, and growing up sounded like something that wouldn't happen to me. They make me realize I sit here, with work that I have to do today because the deadline is here, phone calls to make, and a house to clean, how much gravity being an adult really has. I guess I never saw past watching a Disney movie and having pizza when I was young. Young me was so lucky, and quite frankly young me had it good. I understand through the memes that the "90s nostalgia" is a universal thing and I guess it makes me feel better that it's not just me sitting here going "What the fresh hell happened???" and "Why do I crack and pop when I get up off the couch or have soreness from being on my feet all day?" I am by no means complaining, I just sometimes miss the carefree youth and easy times I had as a child. Maybe because I am an INFP I can feel it deeper? Maybe it is easy for my mind to go back to those years. I don't know but it aches in my heart, but in a good yet sad way if that makes sense?
Are any other 90s kids out there that now keep aspirin on their counter, readily available? I hope all of you are doing well and have had a good week and continue to have a good day.
-Best Amin Luna

We were born to go against the grain Stay truthful over everything We're bound to do whatever we like We were born to go against the grain No matter what the people say We're bound to do whatever we like And that's life
