SPULTURATORAH!! 2ND EXTERMINATION
SPULTURATORAH!! 2ND EXTERMINATION, Keetoms, 2024
Hot. Off. The. Presses. Directly into my hands before the edges were even trimmed or the cover placed on it. Seven hundred pages of raw ancient retro-future. The author gave this to me on January 2nd and it took me until now to actually read the whole thing.
SPULTURATORAH!! 2ND EXTERMINATION (S2E from here on out to avoid overwhelming us all with Teh Capslock) is a gonzo mashup of different game styles, settings, and genres. The original game (S1E, I guess) is a classic of maximalist game design in a tiny package. In fact, it's so small that there are more pages in S2E than words in S1E. That's ultra-maximalist game design for you.
So what did they do with the 698ish new pages? A lot, thankfully.
30 pages total of ToC, index, thanks, and license. It has its own bespoke license that I am not good enough at lawyer to understand.
10 pages of extra explanation for the original ruleset, which honestly it needed.
20 pages of gonzo backstory for King Gilgamesh. I appreciate that they did not in fact explain where he got the Levitating Darkness Throne. They did a great job folding in the new chapter of the Epic of Gilgamesh that was discovered only recently.
A 40-page adventure set in the Ziggurat of Ur, complete with a Narrative Dungeon linking this place to the Eternal Realm of Narrative Awesome.
9 pages of random-roll tables you can use for Trait One, Trait Two, and Trait Prime.
2 pages to explain the difference between what you can use for the numbered traits and what you can use for the prime trait.
30 pages of alternate uses for TRAIT ZIGGURAT BARLEY.
18 pages of equipment.
31 pages of vehicles and riding animals.
2 pages on currency.
14 pages of hacking rules.
7 pages of rules clarifications from the unofficial 1.4th edition. Nice to see them supporting fan works.
114 pages of monsters, each of which is a mutated version of King Gilgamesh from another universe or a shattered piece of our own, come to drag you back to his den and devour you. There are big ones, scaly ones, porcupine-like ones, multiple fragmented body parts moving together, one rolled into a beholder-like shape, one fused forever into a throne of pure orange light, all kinds of stuff. I like this.
A 6-page writeup of the God Shamash, which is sort of unnecessary but interesting anyway.
A 4-page running edge-to-edge map of Babylon and its rivers
8 pages of word jumble. I think it's a code. I am not entirely certain.
115 pages of adaptations from S2E to other rule systems: Deadlands, Torg, Fate, Altaplana, Numenera, Dungeon War, MSR, and Fantasy Wargaming: THLOA.
Good lord 700 pages is a lot of pages.
1 page accidentally taken up by a single dangling word ("it") at the end of a sentence. I have been there. Doing layout sucks sometimes.
96 pages of color art plates. Right in the middle of the book. The rest of the book has no art. The center has almost 100 solid pages of pinup Babylonian future barbarian blade hunter psychics. It's all the work of one mad genius who is credited as a bunch of black rectangles with diacriticals above and below them
A 3-page essay on why Nobilis is the greatest game ever, which has an acrostic that disclaims the entire section.
4 pages of detailed wargame rules.
22 pages of domain management guidelines.
12 pages of "spoilers". I still do not know what most of these mean.
A 2-page spread of Gilgamesh's family tree.
15 pages of writeups for miscellaneous folks on said tree.
28 pages on the language used in ancient Babylon, complete with cuneiform how-to.
A 16-page "node map" of the retro-future Babylonian cybernet that leads to outer space, where the planets are manifestations of deities.
21 more pages of detail covering the strange planets of our solar system as the Babylonians knew them: their cities, their rulers, little adventure seeds, advice for GMs for running stories in them. I do kind of wonder if someone else wrote this section.
1 page of probability notes, which is all you need for a 1d6-roll-under system really.
An 8-page character sheet, which is a bit excessive for characters with 4 traits.
2 pages that just contain the original game.
I will admit - there is actually too much in this game. I'm not sure it would have worked to make it a string of 50ish short supplements, but it's still an awful lot to absorb. The "maximal game, minimal package" has turned into "ultra-max game in a doorstop package". If S3E ever arrives (presumably with three exclamation points) I hope they do some judicious trimming.
I have no idea if this behemoth will make it to stores, or whether the shipment will collapse under its own gravitational pull and become a black hole. Either way, heck of a collector's item.
#ttrpg#imaginary#indie ttrpg#rpg#review#Trait Ziggurat Barley#keetoms#700 pages is a whole lot of pages#did you know that tumblr has issues with keeping your place on the page when you move through text in large documents?#guess how I know

Modern City Walk
Sunday - 6/9
Here is a picture of Eden Park we see from our hotel room.

The weather today was colder than it has been, with a high of 60 and a low of 50. The forecast said there was about a 15% chance of rain today. We had a few sprinkles of very light rain yesterday morning, and it rained briefly a couple of times today,
In the morning we did Rick Steve’s Modern City Walk. It starts at Kungstradgen, also known as the “King’s Garden”, where there is a statue of King Karl XIII. King Karl XIII was king of Sweden from 1809 to his death in 1818, and from 1814 also King of Norway. I guess he was moonlighting on his second Kingship with Norway. This predates non-compete clauses.

Walking up the square is the Volvo showroom, where the latest new electric SUV—the EX30 is being displayed. The EX30 is not yet available in the US. Since it was Sunday the showroom was closed, so we could only see it from the window. Volvo, along with ABBA, IKEA, Spotify and H&M are the top five Swedish brands recognized globally.

On our walk we passed by the NK again and learned that NK stands for Nordiska Kompaniet… the Swedes like to say NK stands for “no kronor left” (kronor is the Swedish currency). The picture below on the right is the Sergeis Torg square. It is in the center of modern Stockholm and is surrounded by a number of office towers.

Below is Kulturhuset, Stockholm’s “culture center”, which consists of libraries, a theater, a fine art cinema, art exhibits and a music venue.

In the Kulturhuset there was an exhibit on marionettes. There we found a Gustafson puppet. I never thought of myself as a puppet, but I guarantee you that I come with no strings attached!
Yesterday, in speaking with a local, I learned the difference between Gustaf and Gustav. They are just variants of the same name… like Steve and Steven. Looks like now I need to research the difference between Gustafson and Gustafsson.

The picture below on the left is the Blue Hall, Stockholm’s concert hall which hosts the annual Nobel Price award ceremony. On the right is Hötorget (aka Hay Market) which used to feed horses, and now used to feed humans with food carts during the week. On Sunday the square was being used for a flea market.

The day continues in the next post.

The RPG.net Rants
Uncensored, Unforgettable and Uncorrected
2002 was the year I first started to post stories for the amusement of others. (Aside from that shameful X-FILES fan fiction of course.) I began with these gaming anecdotes that I shared on the forums of RPG.net, a relatively safe haven for me at the time. They were strange little tales told in a kind of screenplay format that I used when I sketched out story dialogue.
The first one was pretty simple but as they went on they became more and more grandiose but they were raw and fun little bits of humor. I never bothered to proofread the things or set up any real kind of coherence or internal continuity- although snippets of these tales do show up in PRICE BEAKS AND HEARTACHES.
I'm posting them to the blog so I can add them to version of THE BINDER OF SHAME I keep here. I will do the first two today and then set up one a week until they're all there.
I've moved on a lot since I first created them but many of the folks that first came to know me through them are still reading my work now and they still keep finding new readers all the time.
If you have no idea what I am talking about prepare to be amazed, amused and offended.
And be warned these stories appear exactly as I did when I posted them on the forums. I haven't tried to edit them for fear of diluting their raw power.
Also I'm pretty damn lazy...

I recommend TORG Eternity or any of the 2D20 system games. Ive personally played torg for about 4 years now and its by far my favorite system ever and it sucks its not more well known given just how unique it is and how diverse you can have your party without any need for homebrew or such.
I havent played much of the 2d20 system of games but my fiance and his gamer group absolutely swear by it. One of their favs and multiple properties have been covered by it including Alien and Fallout.
Anyway back to TORG.
All you need are a good amount of d20s and d6s. Its got a really cool card mechanic where each player has a hand of cards they can play any time outside of combat and in combat can only play if theyre in their pool, which you add a card from your hand into each time you act. Cards can do anything from +3 to your final skill total on a check, to "I romance this npc and gain possibilities i can spend on us both" (ill get to possibilities in a sec) to "i find a supply cache" to "i martyr myself to guarantee we succeed something." And a bunch of others too.
You roll a d20 for a skill check, then check your final die roll against a chart handily invluded on most sheets telling you what bonus or minus you get to your skill. And 10s and 20s can result in rolling again for an even higher total up to and beyond 60 (if u hit 60 and someone has a Glory card u get extra bonuses too) and there are also possibilities, of which u start with 3 usually represented at the table by pokerchips just for eases sake. You can spend a possibility to roll another dice and add its result to your other dice(and possibility, and the cards that do the same effect Hero and Drama, always add a min of 10)
Ex: i roll my d20 on a find check. I get a 15. 15 add a bonus of 2. I have a find skill of 9. 9+2 is 11 so thats my final skill check total. Say thats not high enough though and i need at least a 15 total to win. I spent a possibilty, roll an 8. Since its a possibility die roll, its automatically a 10. So that makes my roll total a 25 now, which is a skill bonus of 8. Now my find skill check total is a 17 which is a pass!
The other really really nifty thing about TORG is its cosms. The big meta plot of TORG Eternity is that alternate universes are invading ours and they all have their own sort of metaphysical rules known as Laws that effect stuff like special uses of possibility, unique interactions, how magic or psionics work ect. And each cosm is basically its own genere! The cosms are:
Orrorsh: Victorian england and India, the victorians brought their fucked up shit to india and are doing colonialism. There are vampires and ghosts and werewolves and everything sucks dont go to orrorsh it will kick your ass /jk
Nile Empire: Nazi declares himself god pharaoh. Very pulp novel and comic book. Go punch the Nazis its a good time. You have cool steampunk-ish gadets and superpowers and faith magic (known as miracles)
Living Land: Prehistoric dinopeople called Edinos live with dinosaurs and their faith magic. Sometimes you find really out of nowhere weird shit because one of its cosm laws just sometimes keeps remnants of past cosms theyve invaded. Its fun though. Lotta jungles.
Aysle: High fantasy magic and elves and dwarves and dragons and trolls. The forces of Light and Dark are at war, theres also more viking-esq tribes in some places. Has its own underdark like areas.
Tharkold: Cyberdemons invaded russia. Russian leader nuked the cyberdemons. Since the cyberdemons are very VERY might makes right(one of the world laws is literally Law of Dominance) they allowed the russian leader to keep some power and authority as a sort of respect thing. Cyberware and psionics.
Panpacifica: Cyberpunk/Shadowrun. Genemods and electric samurai and implants and all that good stuff. Haven't got to play a campaign there yet but cant wait to.
Cyberpapacy: Suuuuuper suuuper high tech gamified Catholic church ran by the Cyberpope. Every action is tracked and given a piety score. Cyberware and vr/cyberspace common. Heretics and witches burned.
And finally!
Core Earth: default earth with the exception of burgeoning psionics.
And the best part? Your player character can come from any of these cosms and have unique perks and abilities from them! You dont even gotta be human! You can be an elf, a dwarf, an Edinos, a Cyberdemon, and a couple other species get added by the cosm specific source books!
And there is a prewritten adventure for each cosm that range from "go find these 3 artifacts so we can stop a dragon" to "the pharaoh is trying to make a sun death lazer go stop him" to "we tricked the cyberchurchs systems into thinking youre the secret police go investigate some stuff"
But given the variety you can just make your own shit up!
Anyway go play torg. My fav ttrpg ever.
https://ulisses-us.com/games/torgeternity/

Those arent even all our torg books those are just the ones that we didnt need in the torg suitcase for game night. Also look at our stack of boxes for each cosm them bitches massive.
And heres other rpgs most of which my fiance knows more about then me but hey suggestions are suggestions

The ad copy: "An innovative, rules-light tabletop RPG system with a unique, post-apocalyptic science-fantasy setting and mechanics that put player creativity in charge!"
The game: Literally just Dungeons & Dragons with a couple of mildly unusual playable species and seven ability scores instead of six.

MGADD SPOILERS
Y’all remember in ep 9 (Skip this Ad...olescense) when the Skipster shuffled skips? With season 1 complete I decided to look back and y’all, I found some cool stuff!!
Of course, in the first skip Lunella goes back too far. But something I missed the first time was little Casey! (Left side)
Next skip shows Torg from ep 13 (Devil on her shoulder). Also, this is when shuffle mode was activated.
We got Lunella’s 16th birthday! I’m pretty sure she’s 13 in the show so it’s nice to think we’ll get enough eps to see her grow the next 3 years
Next skip we get the infamous Eduardo and Lunella dance date. Idk about you but I personally think they went as friends (I want Eduardo and Lunella friendship for the ADHD and Autism solidarity)
Another note: When Lunella says “Eduardo?!” he looks confused as well which is different from the other skips where no one reacts
When I saw this one I was shocked! It’s the fight with Morlak/ Maris ep 15/16 (OMG Issue #1-2)
Then we go back to ep 13 where Devil is tiny. Little cutie!
Now onto future spoilers (?) In the finale Lunella goes into the portal to shut it down, so she went into another dimension. A dimension with another MG!

Next skip we get karaoke from ep 7 (Goodnight, Moon Girl)
Not sure what’s happening here but looks like MG is fighting a huge robot! Does this look familiar to anyone in the Marvel universe?
Then we get Future! Lunella/ MG who looks just like our beloved Mimi (Any Rise fans here? funny how similar the future designs are. We got the robot arm, cape/scarf combo, and cool looking tech)
Wonder what’s happening with the wanted posters in the background, looks like heroes are wanted criminals

That’s all I could get! I can’t wait for MGADD Season 2!!

After a decade-long journey through some of the greatest museums in the world, a particularly well-preserved Roman floor mosaic that displays a vast diversity of fish, animals, birds, and ships has returned to the location where it was first discovered in a Tel Aviv suburb.
The 1,700-year-old mosaic, which dates to the late Roman era, was found in 1996 while roadwork was being done, but it wasn't put on display until 2009 after enough money was given to conserve it.
According to a statement from the Israel Antiquities Authority, the vibrant mosaic, which is 17 metres (55 feet) long and around 9 metres (29 feet) broad, may have been the entryway floor of a home in the affluent Lod area, close to what is now Tel Aviv.
"The owner was probably a very rich merchant because he travelled throughout the world and he saw things, like all the ships and the fish on display in the mosaic," said archaeologist Hagit Torge from the Israel Antiquities Authority.
According to archaeologist Amir Gorzalczany of the Israel Antiquities Authority, the mosaic's design was influenced by North African mosaics and lacks any representations of people, indicating that it may have belonged to a Christian or a Jew who wanted to avoid pagan elements like representations of Roman gods.
The mosaic will now be on display at an archaeological centre created in Lod, where it was discovered.

Okay, okay, time to make my exobiology professor proud!
(Gonna link wiki pages, but do tell if you'd rather have published articles)
So, first a bit of science. Most life on earth requires oxygen, but there are bacteria that thrive on other gazes including sulphur. And this majority of O2-brathing bacteria related to the great oxygenation event, where basically O2 levels increased globally through chemical processes, making that a preferential breathing type, and killing most of the bacteria that breathed other gazes.
Hence, on an Earth-like planet, a similar atmospheric chemical reaction could have occurred, creating more 02 breathing life.
Okay, now let's go into headcanon territory.
I think there are 3 types of aliens, which are basically "human-like", "vastly different biology", and "does not need to breathe".
1. Human-like
Includes Lizzie's boyfriend, Bounty Hunter, Gene, 9 Torg, Krubis, the 3 brothers, Nipulon, Clugg Nuggmin.
I think they come from planets similar to Earth, in that they are also telluric, with a significant water coverage, and an 02-rich atmosphere.
And i think there are margins of tolerance of 02% they all can breathe.
2. Vastly different bilogy
Here we have Dr. Giblets, Douglas, and the G3.
Okay, so I have theories about the slime the G3 are covered in. I think it allows them to process rare elements (like azote or something) directly through their skin, kinda like frogs irl.
As for the two cartel leaders, I think they can survive in an O2 rich atmosphere for short periods of time, but need their suits to breathe properly, kinda like whales irl.
Dr. Giblets has the added advantage of needed to pressurise his organs. I think he comes from a Europa-type water world. That's supported by the fact that he has no limbs, no wings, and no scales, so the only way he could move around would be by swimming.
3. Does not need to breathe
This includes all the Gatlians and Garmantuous.
So the guns are a but self-explanatory. They don't eat, with the crystal fruit things acting more as a stress decreaser than food (ad Kenny says that he gets nervous in battle, so his special abilities take longer to recharge).
The guns will complain when you fall into acid on any of the worlds, but won't say anything when you venture out of the air bubble on their home planet, hence I don't think they need to breathe.
As for Garmantuous, he shares some similarities with the Galtians, like producing the same goop as Kenny does with his Globshots.
Their species might be similar in the same way that Humans and Gene's species are. They metamorphise energy in a way that doesn't require breathing, and get nutrients from the sun or something.
Another similarity between the two is the lack of advanced independent mobility, suggesting that they come from a world where gravity, and atmospheric pressure and composition are such that they could just kinda float around.
If not for the sequence on Gatlus, I would have even stipulated that they come from a gaz giant.
ok something that is interesting 2 me but also low-key bugging me:
the Bounty Hunter, before they get the suit, breathes on Nova Sanctus just fine. Nipulon and Garmantuous also seem just fine on Earth. You can chalk these instances to minimal exposure to these new atmospheres. But meanwhile all the G3 Grunts and Gatliens seem to breathe just fine wherever and it's basically implied Garm is just running around Earth the whole time too... oh and Lizzie is perfectly fine as well.
So how do all the planets' atmospheres compare? Are they all the same or similar enough that the inhabitants of each can breathe on them all with minimal struggle/discomfort? Is this adaptability the work of other quickly-spread microbes? Are some organisms like the gatlians + merks just more well adapted to the various environments?? That could work esp for the Gatlians who could have very well evolved to be uber-versatile so they can be used as weapons wherever, increasing the odds of worldwide or even intergalactic symbiotic relations. Extremophiles, maybe? Or at least a sort of jack of all trades biologically speaking??????
No matter what the explanation, it does point to most alien lifeforms being the same sort of carbon-based life with similar needs. Except for with... whatever is going on with Giblets, considering he's perpetually in that suit of his.
And ofc the bounty hunter still wears the helmet whenever, which would be useful when the atmosphere could prove harmful and protect against viruses and pollutants in the atmosphere. And not to mention general protection against weaponry and serving as a source of anonymity for the job at hand.
#high on life game#this was a fun thought experiment#i know i didn’t answer every point#but i hope i gave some scientifically informed pointers#at the end of the day it's mostly headcanons#but if youget me started on alternative lipozome structures i could go on for hours#gus best gun
