Now And Then
Headlines this morning are proclaiming that SAG-AFTRA (the screen actors guild) and Hollywood studios have reached a tentative agreement. That’s good for everyone, including fans, because it means that new content can be created for our viewing pleasure.
One of the major bones of contention in the strike was the possible use of AI not only to write scripts, but also be used to create audio and video in the likeness of stars. It is a very real possibility, and AI capabilities have advanced so much in recent months and years that it could happen, and completely without the permission of anyone being imitated.
But what if a project of this sort were actually initiated—and approved—by artists who tapped into AI capabilities to produce content of someone who is long deceased? That is precisely what Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr—the surviving members of the Beatles—did. Last week what is quite likely the last song ever by the Beatles to be released was unleashed to the world.
The song, Now And Then, was written by John Lennon, and had only been recorded as a crude demo on a cassette player in 1977. He had written it while living at the Dakota Hotel in NYC, and simply recorded it while at the piano. John’s wife, Yoko Ono, gave the cassette tape to Paul in 1994, but it could not be used in a subsequent effort at the time to produce a post-mortem anthology. The piano and vocal tracks could not be isolated.

Lennon was shot and killed in New York City on the evening of 8th December 1980. When that 90s project was underway, George Harrison was still alive. Alas, he died on 29th November 2001 of cancer. That left Paul and Ringo to do this project in the modern era.
And were it not for AI, this never would have happened. It should be noted that the new song is John’s real voice, not “AI John.” Artificial Intelligence was used to separate the original vocal from the piano, and then enhance Lennon’s vocals.
So while critics of AI need to mull that over and accept this was really a high-tech editing project, there remains the possibility that far more could be done. For example, I have extensive audio of my father telling stories while he was yet alive. Not only could I feed those into AI for enhancement, but I could tell the AI machine to create new audio content in the voice and style of my late father, using a script that I would feed it.
Now imagine a professor—someone, maybe me, maybe someone else—doing the same thing. It takes a long time to create long-form lecture audio files. Not just for the speaking part, but also for the multiple takes required when the prof stumbles or coughs. It’s one thing for this prof to do the audio recording of blogs like this every morning, because they are only five to seven minutes long. It is quite another when you’ve got thousands of words to speak.
For that matter, Voice Actors could be put out of business if we’re not careful. All those audio books on Audible could be created with the click of a few buttons, having uploaded a voice sample. And while we’re at it, why not audio text books? Sheesh. That’s an idea that should have been done years ago.
Meanwhile, I am loving the Beatles’ new song. I know. I am old like that. But in my defense, my two 20-something daughters love the Beatles, too. I credit that to good upbringing, and them growing up surrounded by 60s- and 70s-era music. You might call that punishment, but they rather like it.

A Doctor’s Science-Backed Formula For Aging Better
Dr. Eric Topol’s Longevity Work Revealed Simple and Practical Steps to Stay Healthy. He Shares The Tips That He Follows

Dr. Eric Topol, A Cardiologist, researched what keeps people 85 and older healthy.
Dr. Eric Topol wanted to know if genes were the reason some people live to very old ages without major health problems.
Topol, a prominent cardiologist, decided to test the idea. He and his colleagues at the La Jolla, Calif.-based Scripps Research Translational Institute, which Topol helped found, enrolled people 85 years old and above—and healthy—in a research project. The researchers sequenced and scrutinized the participants’ DNA.
The results led Topol to a different conclusion.
It turned out there wasn’t much in the genes of these “super agers” that set them apart. But as a group, they were different from many Americans of similar ages. They were thinner. They exercised more. They were better-educated. Even at advanced ages, they continued to volunteer, dance, see friends and pursue activities that gave them purpose and enjoyment.
In the coming years, more people can become super agers, Topol writes in his new book of the same name. Cancer, heart trouble and neurodegeneration can take decades to develop—leaving time to slow, delay or even prevent them, Topol argues.
A longtime champion of the idea that mobile devices and other digital tech can help people track and improve their health, Topol is a self-described “techno optimist.” He has done tests on himself that measure the biological age of different organs, had his genes sequenced and participated in a research study that assesses people’s immune systems to try to predict their risks to different diseases.
In the future, these strategies, along with improvements in artificial intelligence, may allow for dramatic changes to the way people age. For now, there are some simple and practical things people can do to improve longevity. Topol, who is 70, says, “I am taking my own advice.”
He shared some of his own plan with The Wall Street Journal.
Exercise
I’ve always been an exercise enthusiast. As a cardiologist, I always used to think, do aerobic exercise. But all the studies show resistance or strength training is really important too. I do lots of resistance training and make that part of the routine. You can do resistance training with some very cheap bands.

Sleep
I started tracking and learning what helps me get more deep sleep [a stage that involves slow brain waves, slowed heart rate and non-rapid eye movement sleep]. I was sleep-deficient for decades. The importance of sleep, especially deep sleep, is to clear waste products from the brain. People should aspire to get a maximal amount of deep sleep.
Many people think they need eight hours of sleep. Studies show seven hours is optimum. I’ve learned how important it is to have a set and early bed time. I’ve been able to increase my average deep sleep substantially by having my data and learning how what I eat and when I exercise affect it. I use both an Oura ring and an Apple smartwatch because the results are often not concordant.
Diet
I am religious about reading labels and getting rid of ultra-processed food. Many things I used to eat, I won’t go near. Each of us has the potential to read labels and shift our priorities as to what we eat. Ultra-processed foods should be reduced to the lowest amount possible. When I read labels for things like whipped cream cheese or different brands of ice cream, they are chock-full of ultra-processed ingredients.
I am very regimented now. I mostly eat salad with oil-and-vinegar dressing and some kind of protein like salmon or chicken. I don’t eat red meat. I eat plain yogurt and add berries and granola. I eat nothing in between meals.
Protein
I have increased my protein in my diet, though not at the [very high] levels that are advocated by some people. I’ve had marked improvement in muscle mass. The recommended dietary allowance for protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of a person’s weight for all adults. There are data that support an increase for people aged 60-plus to about 1.2 grams per kilogram a day. For me, at 80 kilograms, I shoot for 90-100 grams a day. If you overdo it with protein intake, that might not be a good idea. Many studies now show that very high protein diets can promote atherosclerosis.
Testing
I am trying to assemble a full stack of data we all need. I have had my genome sequenced, my gut microbiome tested, I have used organ clocks [tests that measure the aging of different organs].
It’s inexpensive to get a polygenic risk-score test [the tests analyze DNA] to tell us about someone’s risk for common diseases, different types of cancers, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases. There are about eight companies that offer them through their websites or you can get the kits through Amazon.
There are anywhere between 6,000 and 11,000 proteins in your blood that can tell about the aging of organs. Two companies offer tests in the $100 range.
The results can be discussed with a doctor. If you know your risk, it’s much more likely you will do something. I believe the potential benefit of having the results outweighs remote concerns about privacy.
Antiaging Supplements and Drugs
I don’t think any antiaging supplements have been proven. Taurine is a possible candidate. As we age, we see lower levels of taurine in the blood, and that is correlated with more inflammation. But we need trials.
I think the rapamycin story is really checkered. [Rapamycin, an FDA-approved drug used to help prevent organ rejection in transplant patients, is sometimes used off-label as part of longevity regimens.] Rapamycin suppresses the immune system. The last thing you want to do as you get older is to suppress the immune system.
The drugs are out there dangling. They may have a role. We just don’t have the data to help us guide their use right now.
Improving Mental Health
I tell my patients to spend more time outdoors. I have started spending more time in nature. I take that seriously.

Excellent film, the fact that it is an artificial intelligence that learns to reason makes one think that the script was ahead of its time, perhaps focused on these years where the focus of technology is centered on AI and the development of robotics, the story begins in a kind of Silicon Valley where there are several scientists working on a project. It also has several peculiarities that could be messages in the best Stanley Kubrick style, such as the experimentation room where the doctor works with the machine is set in China, an Asian lady also appears, as if in the 70's they were clear that in the future the technological vanguard was going to be there in the Asian country, Just as it is today. Another aspect is also the intensity of tension generated by the machine trying to convince its prey to serve as a womb for its child, without going any further, it would be the first rape of a woman by a machine, something insane and grotesque, perhaps too much for the general public and for Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer. The ending seemed a bit boring to me with so many out of the ordinary plots,sincerelyexpected something more for such a story, I suppose that after so many special effects they ran out of ideas to finish the work, but it is worth giving it a thumbs up because like every futuristic film it could happen at some point or perhaps it is already happening in some laboratory in the shadows 😛

Today I was researching Artists for my project and I stumbled across Alex Coville’s art.
His work typically explores the ideas of Identity, memory, and the passing of time, often featuring landscapes and people that evoke a sense of wonder. Coville's usage of light and dark adds depth to his artworks, resulting in a dreamlike quality that invites viewers into the piece.


His art was painted in the 50’s and 70’s, and it seems scarily similar to earlier computer graphics.

I found this interesting as I’m basing my project around Ai, and how an artificial intelligence may assemble art. The idea that the artist was ahead of technology is a luxury we lack today. With technology very quickly catching up.

02 DATA TRANSFER
The data to be processed is uploaded to a encrypted area in a distributed file systems. As part of the transaction, the costs of storage are charged against the deposit. If the customer has storage for their own data, the system then references this data through secure SSL transactions with the individual customers own SSL public key
03 A.I.PROCESSING
Using a distributed networking system, similar to what peer-to-peer games use, the transaction is communicated to participants that have games and or apps installed that can process the A.I. Data. The workload is divided and distributed to indivdual nodes for processing either in a standalone app or while running a game.
04 VALIDATE AND ADD
After processing ,all nodes report back results to a fast blockchain that aggregates the results data and verifies that nodes aren’t cheating the system. The data is verified with a parity verification node and encryption verification. The data is then stored in the distributed files system or returned to the customers data storage area.
05 COMPLETE
After the data has been validated, a transaction complete is sent to the main blockchain. The blockchain moves the payment in Genius tokens out of escrow ready to be distributed to the individual nodes that processed the data
06 PAYMENTS
Once the process is complete the blockchain contract then distributes 70% of the Genius tokens to all the individual nodes wallets. The publisher of the app or game will then receive 20% with Genius Ventures receiving 10% The users can convert the tokens to regular currencies or use for in-app purchases.
