We're thrilled to announce that we've wrapped principal development work on Slay the Princess — The Pristine Cut. We'll be releasing it this Fall (date TBD) so we can simultaneous ship the update with both the game's console release (surprise!) as well as official subtitling support for 11 new languages, all with the help of our wonderful new partners at Serenity Forge (who you might know from their publishing work on Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!)
There's a lot for us to share about The Pristine Cut, but before we get into the details, please check out our new trailer!
Here's what we've got coming for you: Content
For those of you who are just now hearing about The Pristine Cut, it's an entirely free director's cut of the game that adds about 35% more content on top of the initial release.
This includes massive expansions to The Den, The Apotheosis, and The Fury routes, each of which is over three times bigger than their release versions, with tons of variations to discover across multiple playthroughs.
On top of this, we're adding three brand new chapter three routes that will add even more depth to your stories with The Damsel, The Prisoner, and The Spectre.
And we're adding a new ending.
All in all, these additions come to over 2,500 new voice lines, over 1,200 new hand-drawn illustrations, and over 15 new tracks of music.
We're also adding an extensive CG gallery with over 400 unlocks to help all you completionists track your progress, complete with cryptic hints to help you discover some of the game's more obscure and buried interactions.
Languages
And all of this is coming with a giant wave of localization support, covering the following languages: Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Spanish (Latin American), Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, and Polish. These localizations are just going to cover subtitles, so we can be as thorough as possible about maintaining the quality of Jonny and Nichole's performances.
Consoles, Physical Release and New Merch
With the help of Serenity Forge, we’re bringing Slay the Princess — The Pristine Cut to every major current console — Nintendo Switch, PS4 + 5, and Xbox.
And these won’t just be available as digital downloads. You’ll also be able to pick up a physical edition for the Switch and PS5, with an exclusive sticker sheet and a download code for the game’s soundtrack.
And if that’s not enough we’re also doing a Collector’s Edition, complete with a 7 inch statue of the Princess, a mirror with a lenticular lens, an acrylic standee, and more.
And finally (for now), we’re launching the first wave of new line of sticker sheets, featuring chibi art of the Princesses as seen in The Pristine Cut’s new gallery. Pre-order them now at Topatoco!
Alongside these developments, we've also launched a new website for the game: check out slaytheprincess.com where you can order the physical editions, check out merch, and more!
Thank you so much for your patience while we've worked to make The Pristine Cut the definitive version of Slay the Princess. We can't wait to share all of the game's new stories with you this Fall.
Until then, we're back to working full-time on the next Episode of Scarlet Hollow (and have been for about a few weeks now!)
Best, Abby and Tony

Ranking of Houndoom cards? Its my fave and I feel like a lot of the cg EX cards don’t give it justice.. 🥺
glad you asked for this one! it does get a lot of the generic EX cards, sure, but a lot of the artists who've worked on the illustrations have gone absolutely ham. struggled to pick my number 1 because a lot of these deserved it.

Hakuōki-7'scarlet parallel
Otomate/Idea Factory did that on purpose, I know it.
Miki Shin'ichiro as Hijikata Toshizō in Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds and Murakumo Yuzuki in 7'scarlet.
The routes of both are incredibly focused on their stories instead of the romance, too... That Yuzuki CG isn't even from MC's POV.

FULL OC SET
Ok so I have like way too many OC's for my dumbass to count so Imma just make them a whole ass page for shits and giggles.
ANYWAYS!!!
WARNING: SPOILERS(Mainly for the people who have just recently joined the fandom and found me.)
Father & Son OC's
Sapphire
Gold's best friend and girlfriend, and a supporting character in the Father & Son series. Very headstrong and determined. Likes Purple and enjoys treating Gold and Purple like they're siblings. Treats Purple like her brother in one-shots and any interactions during the actual series. (She/Her)
2. Scarlet
A supporting character in Father & Son. A hollowhead with very similar appearance to The Dark Lord. In Chosen's opinion, they are carbon copies. Enjoys teasing Sapphire about her relationship with Gold. Unlike the hollowheads in the series(Cho, Dark, and Sec), she doesn't have powers. Slightly jealous that Purple has abilities.(She/Her)
3. Copper
The oldest of Gold's little friend group, and takes on an older brother/mentor role for his younger friends. The most level headed between them all. A supporting character in Father & Son. (He/Him)
4. Amethyst
Purple's long lost sister, and the daughter of Orchid. She was the result of an affair-gone-wrong between Orchid and Night Shade. Lighter than Purple. She is a very independent and leadership-type character. Queen of the Great Above at the end of book 8.(She/Her)
5. Night Shade
Navy's brother, Orchid's brother-in-law/ex-lover, and Amethyst's biological father. They reunited with Navy following the endermite attack Gold set off in the first book, and was originally a guard serving under Navy until book 5, when Orchid and Night Shade teamed up to defeat Purple. Has regeneration abilities, which was revealed in book 6. Killed by Dark, King, and Chosen during the final battle in book 7, revived in book 8 by Orchid, and then killed by Navy before the final battle. (He/They)
6. Fern King's best friend from high school, and Willow's older brother. Worked as a guard under Navy, a secret he kept from his family, specifically Willow, and led King, the CG, and the hollowheads to Navy's oceanic base, before tricking and capturing them. Killed by Purple in book 8. (He/Him)
7. Sunny
Willow's best friend, and a former classmate of Gold. She was bullied by Mocha and his friends heavily until Willow stepped in. Was kidnapped and brainwashed by Navy and worked as a guard under him before rescuing herself in book 6, where she reunited with Willow and joining the team to defeat Navy. (She/Her)
8. Willow
Sunny's best friend, and Fern's younger sister. Went to elementary school with Gold and his friends, and stopped the bullying of Sunny during that time. Was spying on Navy for the majority of the series, particularly the halfway point of the series, and met Purple and Red during book 6. Has remained a major player in the battle to defeat Navy since then. Has plant abilities. (She/Her)
9. Mocha
One of Purple's tormentors in the series. Plays as a minor antagonist. He is described as a bitch by Purple's friends. Has a scar across his face from Green, who attacked him with a roller skate before book 2. Plays as the main antagonist in book 9 before being killed by Coco towards the end. (He/Him)
10. Crystal
One of Mocha's old friends, and a minor antagonist-turned-supporting character in the Father & Son series. Discovered a nether portal, and went to the Note Block Universe with her friends before being discovered by Green and Scarlet while searching for reinforcements in book seven. She and the other two girls abandoned Mocha to help rescue Purple. (She/Her)
11. Sky
An old friend of Mocha's, and a minor antagonist-turned-supporting character in the Father & Son series. Is the most reluctant of the friend group, and was of the more reluctant to join Green and Scarlet in the final battle against Navy. Was the closest to Mocha(was usually dubbed his right hand woman), and is hit the hardest when Mocha's role in books 9-10 is revealed.(She/Her)
12. Lavender
One of Mocha's old friends, and a minor antagonist-turned-supporting character in the Father & Son series. The least reluctant of Mocha's three friends, more or less considered a daredevil. Is mostly unfazed at Mocha's lack of redemption in book 9. (She/Her)
13. Chestnut/Coco
A new friend of Mocha's, cameos in book 9 and fully introduced in book 10. They are the main orchestrator when it comes to the portals, and was the one to take out Purple at the end of book 9. Mocha calls them Coco because it reminds him of his little brother. A supporting antangonist in book 9 before they killed Mocha and took over as the main and final antagonist in book 10. They also killed Navy towards the end an transferred his soul into their body, giving them his powers to defeat Purple. Was ultimately defeated in the end. (They/Them)
14. Amber
King's deceased wife, and a supporting/major antagonist in F&S. She serves as a supporting antagonist in the Great Above trilogy(books 6-8), and one of the main antagonists of the two-part finale(9-10). She serves as an obstacle in the way of defeating Navy, before teaming up with Mocha and Coco in books 9-10 to kill Purple permanently and fulfill Navy's goals. Entirely unknown what happens to her at the end of book 9, but it is heavily implied that she was killed by Coco just before they killed Purple towards the end of book 9. (She/Her)
Standalone OC's
1. Midnight
The main antagonist of Made To Ruin. Midnight is a very jealous person, automatically jealous of King and Purple's relationship upon seeing King lose Gold. Kidnaps and holds Purple hostage for 3 months, torturing and raping him, alongside his four other captives. Was shot by Detective Cornflower, the father of one of his captives. Died the day before Purple was released from the hospital. Heavily mentioned during the sequel, as his actions are still fresh on most of the characters.(He/Him)
2. Moon
Midnight's biological father, and the main antagonist of the Made To Ruin sequel, Perfect Prime Target. He was convicted on numerous offenses thirteen years before Made To Ruin, and was released on parole between Gold's death and the events of MTR. Most of the characters believe Moon's actions influenced Midnight's in the first book. Shot and killed by Cornflower at the end of Perfect Prime Target during Purple's rescue. (He/Him)
3. Space
Midnight's stepfather, and a supporting character in the Made To Ruin books. Space believes Moon influenced Midnight's decisions in Made To Ruin, and was heavily influencing this theory. Feels very bad for Purple and the other captives, even visiting them with his wife Ocean at some point after their rescue. Praises their quick thinking that may or may not have saved their lives. (He/Him)
4. Ocean
Midnight's mother, and a supporting character in the Made To Ruin books. Very empathetic and supportive. Feels bad for Purple and wants to help him. Annoyed that her ex-husband wants to come back and hurt more kids. (She/Her)
5. Periwinkle
A fellow convict, and Moon's girlfriend throughout the Made To Ruin series. She is the most important puppet in Moon's puppet scheme, orchestrating most of the attacks. Shot by Cornflower in a police standoff after Purple escapes from her and Moon. She's thought to be dead until the next book, where she is alive and working alongside Luna Star. (She/Her)
6. Lilac
Cornflower's daughter, Purple's best friend, and one of the main characters in the Made To Ruin books. The first person to turn against Midnight after Purple's kidnapping, and she grows the closest to him throughout the entire ordeal. Can use a gun. (She/Her)
7. Cornflower
Lilac's father, and a major character in the Made to Ruin books. He forms a connection with King that is similar to Lilac and Purple's. Cornflower is an experienced detective and cop, and very logical and reasonable in situations. Best friends with King and Maroon. Occasionally works as an undercover detective, and is quite good at it. (He/Him)
8. Ruby
One of Purple's close friends, and a major/supporting character in Adventures in Stick City. Has multiple scars from the attack Midnight orchestrated on her in the first book. The weakest between the five friends, but she makes it up with her intelligence and agility. Knows how to shoot a crossbow. (She/Her)
9. Sage
One of Purple's close friends, and a major/supporting character throughout Adventures in Stick City. Has an on-off rivalry with Lilac, and the subject to tease because of it. Can drive a car, and taught Purple the basics. Enjoys watching the sunset. (He/Him)
10. Saffron
One of Purple's close friends, and a main character in the Made To Ruin series. The least closest to Purple, more closer to Ruby and Sage, and a very responsible, if a bit reckless, teenager. Was the first to escape in Made To Ruin. Has a scar on his arm from where Midnight shot him before their second transport. (He/Him)
11. Maroon
Another one of King's close friends, and a supporting character. Supports King's decision to adopt Purple, and tries helping him through everything. Slightly less protective of Purple than King is, but is still quite protective of him. A very down to earth guy, but willing to help his friends when needed. A bit reckless and thinks too little in certain situations, usually putting him and his friends in even more danger. Sells corn dogs in Stick City. Can shoot a gun. Best friends with King and Cornflower. (He/Him)
12. Silver
Purple's cousin, and the main antagonist in Shards of Silver. Tried helping Purple after Orchid's death, but Purple's fate was shunned from them afterwards. Grew up thinking Navy's abuse and abandonment was Purple's fault, and saught revenge against him because of how close they were to Navy. Dies at the end of Shards of Silver when Rocket Corp explodes. It's revealed in Defenestrate that Purple and Silver were not biologically related: Luna, who is related to Purple, adopted Silver when they were a baby and they have been raised by Purple's family as a member ever since. Silver, Luna, Navy, and Orchid were the only people who knew about this. (They/Them)
13. Fuschia
An antagonist throughout the Adventures In Stick City. She is an agent working alongside Luna Star, Wisteria, and Zaffre during the series. Not related to Purple. They were best friends with Silver before their death, and then proceeded to use some of Silver's research to create the Vita Carnis monsters to get rid of Purple. When that didn't work, Periwinkle was sent after him. After that blunder, she and their friends unleash a plot that will (hopefully) get rid of him once and for all. (She/They)
14. Wisteria
Zaffre's partner, and an antagonist throughout Adventures In Stick City. They are a very reckless and arrogant agent, usually the more hot-headed between them and Zaffre. Jumps at any opportunity, no matter how problematic. Neither them nor Zaffre are related to Purple. They, Zaffre, and Fuschia are a trio, but are occasionally accompanied by either Periwinkle or Luna Star. (They/Them)
15. Zaffre
Wisteria's boyfriend, and an antagonist throughout Adventures In Stick City. He was close with Silver, but not as close to them as Fuschia was. Probably wants to get rid of Purple the most. Literally just does not care. Incredibly skilled in shooting guns and arrows, as well as throwing knives. Extremely jealous of Agent. (He/Him)
16. Luna Star
Purple's aunt, one of Navy's siblings, and Silver's adoptive mother. A vengeful, grieving mother who wants revenge for what happened to Silver. Will stop at nothing to get that revenge. Incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable in the law industry, as well as the inner workings of Rocket Corp. One of the numerous survivors of the explosion from Shards of Silver, although she has burns along her arms from protecting Zaffre and Wisteria during the explosion. She tends to be impulsive and reckless, and doesn't fully think decisions through, resulting in potentially catastrophic situations. (She/Her)
17. Candy
Rose and Cherry's daughter, and a supporting character in Adventures in Stick City. A fellow rape survivor, she becomes good friends with Purple throughout "The Innocence of Rings", and helps Detective Cornflower stop a drug/child rape ring from becoming even bigger and more dangerous. Following this, she begins attending school and is included into Purple's friend group there with Lilac and her friends.(She/Her)
18. Rose
Cherry's wife and Candy's mother. A supporting character in Adventures in Stick City. Once upon a time, she grew up in a household similar to Purple's, and now works with local orphanages and children looking for families and new beginnings. In fact, she helped King through the harsh process of adopting Purple. She also occasionally lends a hand towards therapists. (She/Her)
19. Cherry
Rose's wife and Candy's mother, and a supporting character in Adventures in Stick City. A full-time human rights activists, she fully believes in justice and equality. She also works with drug addicts struggling to stay clean. Hard-working and loving. She, Rose, and Ocean are all close friends. She and King have a sibling-like relationship, mirroring her daughter's relationship with Purple. (She/They)
20. Hazelnut
A supporting character in Adventures in Stick City. She is Maroon's on-and-off girlfriend throughout the series. She is close with King and Cornflower as well, and also acts as Purple's doctor throughout the series, always taking up his case. As a result, she and him share a relationship similar to a mother and son. (She/Her)
21. Juniper
A minor antagonist in Adventures in Stick City. They work in The Void, an underground drug ring that Moon was once a part of. They are very experienced in their work, and take it very seriously. Their ability to use a gun is incredibly terrifying. (They/Them)
22. Basil
A member of The Void, and a minor antagonist in Adventures in Stick City. She was one of Moon's closest allies, and the most affected by his death. If anyone there knows better, she's probably wanted for arson at least somewhere. (She/Her)
23. Penny
A member of The Void, and a minor antagonist in Adventures in Stick City. He is by far one of the least threatening, but it's because she does a good portion of the drug dealing. They are one of the most important members of The Void by far, and losing them would be a massive blow to the ring. (He/She/They)
24. Raven
A member of The Void, and a minor antagonist in Adventures in Stick City. They are an undercover agent for the operation, sneaking out into the city and noting down worthy targets and victims. He was one of Moon's closest allies, and looked up to him. They take after him. It is usually Raven who upholds The Void's reputation of being a mass child rape ring as well, being the ringleader of that branch operation.(He/They)
25. Jade
A member of The Void(not by her own accord), and a minor antagonist-turned supporting protagonist in Adventures in Stick City. Her older sibling, Raven, forced him into joining as a way for her and Shadow to work as a team and get more victims faster(because of his young appearance, it makes for an easy deception). Afterwards, she joins up with Purple and his friends after Raven's death and the downfall of The Void. (He/She)
27. Lavender, Heather, and Blossom
An old childhood friend of Silver's, and major antagonists-turned-supporting characters in the series. They are triplet sisters and members of Luna's small rival of Rocket Corp, hell-bent on destroying Purple's family once and for all.(All go by She/Her)
I say no more about these three yet.
This may update as more OC's are created by yours truly.

Helvetica is from Bustafellows
5 What would you change about their route?
I think Isora's route did a great job at making him suspicious... But they did shitty job at explaining what's going on. BUT WHAT I'D CHANGE IS THE FACT THAT 1 HAD CHOICE GIVES YOU THE NEUTRAL ENDING.
For Helvetica I think that the only thing I'd change is the Mc cuz I didn't like her... I also would make it longer 😔
8 Do you like MC from the game? Can you relate to them at all?
I don't have any strong opinions on Mc from 7's scarlet. I just didn't think some things about her made sense but in the end she was nice and likeable
Like you probably can tell from question above I don't like Teuta. She was so annoying in my opinion and I liked her only in limited moments.
10 When did you realize that you like your F/O?
I liked Isora... About a week or two after finishing the game. So there wasn't any point that made me skip a beat but if I replayed it rn I sure would think differently about some scenes.
WHEN HE THREW MC INTO THE POOL... I think- that scene was wonderful but when he admitted that he was flustered made me so happy.
2 What is your favorite and least favorite CG?
7's scarlet and Bustafellows spoilers UTC!
IAJEBWIDJBQOSBAJZIWISN that's my only comment.
It just looks... Awkward... I don't really like it that much
This!!! This is my favorite!! It's so pretty and makes me wanna kiss him even more!
While my nr1 least favorite goes to the one where he's beaten up under the shower- I just don't feel comfortable sharing it around so here is my second least favorite. I don't really have to explain it...

Not all Love Interests do have to look conventionally attractive.
or:
Stop portraying people wearing glasses as unattractive!!!
7′Scarlet: states several times that the glasses-and-haori-wearing Toa with the messy hair is his “true self” and that he feels most comfortable in that look
Also 7′Scarlet: spends a majority of Toa’s routes portraying him in his idol look and has 70 (normal route) to 80% (both routes) of his CGs be in that look
On top of that: Toa is extremely short-sighted, needs his glasses and can’t wear contacts so him taking off his glasses all the time is inconvenient and stupid.
(Also, the “real” Toa seems neurodivergent(-coded) and I interpret his idol persona to be similar to or the equivalent of masking but maybe I’m just projecting ^^’)
Proof/CG spoilers below the cut.
Above: CGs of Toa’s normal route.
Below: CGs of Toa’s normal and true routes.
BTW: Before playing his true route, the CG gallery had his original look on the right side. I’m soo mad that it got replaced by his idol look -.-* T_T

Bustafellows Review/Quick Thoughts
I finished Bustafellows at 100% and I wanted to share my thoughts on the game! This should be spoiler free, but some of things I say might count as minor spoilers just as a heads up!
CW: murder, kidnapping, suicide, drug abuse, drug addiction, human trafficking, prostitution, xenophobia, implied rape, depictions of mental illness
General Thoughts:
+I loved the group dynamic so much!! Found family and strong friendships are always my favorite thing and is one of the reasons I liked Code Realize so much. Their friendship made me really happy and helped break up the darker scenes.
+I was surprised at how short the game was? The common route took me about 4 hours to get through and the individual routes (A and B sides) took me about 2 hours. Since I just skipped through the common route after I did it once, it didn't take a lot of time to finish up the game.
+The moving backgrounds were really pretty. I loved 7'Scarlet's backgrounds for the same reason. The art in Bustafellows was really nice overall as well, although not my favorite style of all time or anything.
+Teuta was a fun main character and I liked that she had a mischievous streak. It was also nice to have an MC voiced as well as seeing her face from time to time outside of CGs.
+My main negative is that a lot of the topics and themes felt shallow? I think part of it was because it was short, so it doesn't really dive into anything beyond a surface level.
Routes:
My route ranking: Scarecrow > Mozu > Limbo/Helvetica > Shu
+Before we start, I love all the characters equally individually. They're all really interesting and a lot of fun. The rankings only reflect the actual romance/how the route was handled.
+Generally, I think how short the routes were really impacted the romance for me. I think if they'd had two chapters for the characters instead of one they could have built up the characters backstories, issues, and the romance better. It kinda felt like a speedrun for most of them.
+Listen I know everyone loves Shu but I felt like his was the worst with pacing. When they said they loved each other I was like 'wow, there was on sign of that at all.' Again, Shu as a character was great, but I think his route suffered the most from the fast pace.
+I've seen a lot of early reviews say they didn't like Helvetica but his route actually had me crying. I think of all the characters, his individual story was done the best, and I felt so bad for him the entire time. (Also that One Scene was really rough).
+Like everyone, I love Scarecrow the most. His and Teuta's friendship was so fun and their relationship was really cute and sweet. Romance wise his was my favorite, but I'm a sucker for a dynamic duo.
+Mozu...needs a hug
+Limbo's route was probably the lightest out of all the guys, and while I also enjoy friendship to lovers, his route didn't leave that much of an impression me. It wasn't bad and I enjoyed when playing it, but the details of it are already getting fuzzy.
Random Thoughts
+I liked the side characters a lot, and I like that the extra episodes focused on them and their stories. Honestly, Bustafellows stands out when it comes to the friendships, not just with the guys, but with everyone. I'm surprised at how attached I got to some of the side characters.
+Honestly it's always really refreshing to play a localized game that isn't Otomate. Otomate games all have the same vibe and I don't really realize it until I play something by another company.
Final Rating: 8/10
#bustafellows#em reviews#otome#otome game#honestly it was a lot of fun#I really hope it did/does well enough for pqube to consider more#if you can handle the serious subject matter I really recommend it too

Cupid Parasite: spoiler free review after completing one route
I’ve just finished Gill’s route but there is already so much I want to talk about to do with this game. However I’m going to put a lot of that aside for now (because spoilers) and mainly focus on my overall feelings on the game and whether or not I’d recommend it based on my experience with it so far without including any plot-based spoilers.
So first thing’s first have I, thus far, enjoyed the game?
Absolutely, I can honestly say this is the most fun I’ve had with an otome game for quite some time and I can’t wait to play more of it. That being said, I can also see that this might not be true for everyone so below the cut I’ve included a list of bullet points on the sorts of things that I usually consider when deciding whether to invest in an otome game or not.
- So one thing about this game is that it has a long common route, and I do mean long. I think it took me about the same amount of time to get through the common route as it did to get through Gill’s actual route. Now normally long common routes are really off-putting to me as I am not the most patient individual and I like to get straight into things (plus I hate having to replay them again and again to switch routes) but this one was entertaining enough that I actually didn’t mind it. In fact, I think if you like humorous interactions between your eccentric group of love interests then this will probably come as more of a positive than a negative.
- On the subject of the common route, rather than your dialogue options dictating which route you end up on, you do a love test/quiz pretty early on in the common route (chapter 3 I think) which dictates which route you end up on. The positives of this are that it’s a unique mechanic (or at least I certainly haven’t seen anything like it before) and it makes it really easy to start a new route with just a little bit of playing around (and without having to look up all of the correct dialogue choices). The main negative however, is that because this test is so early in the common route, as far as I can tell you then need to replay almost all of the common route to start a route with a new character. You can just use the ‘skip read’ option to blast through it, but I still don’t think it’s ideal.
- While we’re talking about mechanics, like in a lot of otome games, there’s a love indicator (that shows you when you’ve made the correct choice), although you can turn this off if you want to, as well as an option in the menu that lets you view your status with each character and fortunately it’s pretty easy to understand (unlike the Piofiore one which I’ve never been able to make sense of OTL).
- As for the plot, let me start off by saying that this game is absolutely buck wild. Admittedly I suspect Gill’s route might be the worst of it (if only because I don’t see how they can top it in terms of sure WTF factor in the other routes), but this is not an otome game that takes itself too seriously. If you do prefer more serious games like 7′Scarlet or Hakuoki, then I don’t know that I would recommend Cupid Parasite to you. On the other hand, if you want something fun (i.e. you enjoy things like the DL bonus CDs) then this is absolutely the game for you.
- In terms of characters, we again have something of wild cast but it makes them memorable and adds to the game’s charm. After the common route, I was pretty fond of all of the love interests, even if some of them are pretty questionable (or rather one of them is for sure). Of course everyone’s different when it comes to their character preferences but the cast are diverse enough that I would be very surprised if you come away from the game not liking any of them.
- The art and sound are absolutely brilliant. If you get a bit fussy about your game sprites or CGs then you shouldn’t find any issues with Cupid Parasite. The backgrounds are a bit cartoony but I think that really suits the tone of the game better than super realistic ones, as does the background music.
- Now onto the localisation side of things. Even as someone who isn’t fluent in Japanese, I could tell that some liberties were taken when it came to the translation. Personally I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing, as Japanese is so different from English that direct translations can sound very wonky but if characters using things like “okay boomer” in the English translation is going to bother you, then I’d look into getting the game in Japanese and working through it with a dictionary rather than going down the localisation route.
- Additionally, Idea Factory have released a statement that some errors have made it into Ryuki and Raul’s routes, which they’re planning to fix with a patch sometime in the next month. In my playthrough of Gill’s route I only encountered one or two grammar errors, so I can’t really comment on this but I might update this post later. Regardless, if this sounds like an issue for you, you might want to hold off on getting the game until the patch comes out (or just work through the other routes beforehand).
I think that’s most of the key points I wanted to cover. The only other thing I wanted to bring up is that while this game has a 12+ age rating, it has the most obvious sexual references I’ve encountered in any otome game (admittedly I haven’t played all of them but this did surprise me). There aren’t any explicit scenes, but rather than the vagueness/double entendre used by a lot of otome games, this one just outright states things (with some quite cringe-inducing phrasing sometimes). All of the love interests are over 18, so you don’t have to worry on that front but it’s just something to be aware of.
Of course if you have any other questions or comments about the game then feel free to send me a DM or an ask (although please don’t send me any spoilers until I’ve completed the game myself). Thanks for reading, I hope this has been helpful and that you all have a lovely day!
