Here's another magical girl analysis post but this time focused on 80s magical girl anime. Some elements I'm looking out for in the "magical girl formula" are: 1. Animal Sidekick, 2. Transformation sequence, 3. main romance subplot, 4 saving the day, 5. Special Attacks, 6. Becomes someone older, 7. Becomes an Idol, 8. Magical powers.
Lalabel 1980
Tumblr media
While Lalabel is another magical anime centered around a witch with magic powers there are some things that are different from the magical girl anime of the 60s and 70s. For one, while she can use magic with a wave of a hand, she has a magic wand that she uses as well. I was only able to see 3 episodes but even still I enjoyed this anime a lot. Kind of like Meg-chan she lives with a human family that basically adopt her. She lives with two grandparents and gradually becomes friends with their grandaughter Teko. And of course she has an adorable animal side kick.
Minky Momo 1982
Tumblr media
I swear Minky Momo really did start trends for 80s magical girls. Before I go over the magical girl tropes, I need to talk about the theme song. It is so catchy and will get stuck in your head. Like Lalabel, Minky Momo has a magic wand and is trying to fit in with the human world. She is a princess from a magical land called Fenarinarsa and has 3 animal side kicks. With her magic wand she has the ability to transform into an adult woman with any occupation. She also has a transformation sequence. In each episode, she uses her powers to help others/save the day. While I do recommend this anime, the ending is tragic...
Nanako SOS 1983
Tumblr media
I was only able to see 3 episodes but regardless it was a pretty unique from the other magical girl anime I've seen. Nanako rather than being a witch or a princess, Nanako is girl who gains superpowers through a science experiment. She is basically "supergirl". She saves the day, can fly, and can grow bigger. What's sad though is that through this experiment she lost her memories. :( Poor Nanako.
Creamy Mami 1983
Tumblr media
This was my absolute favorite 80s magical girl anime and I was so sad when I finished the series. All the songs are amazing. The opening, the ending songs, the songs Creamy Mami sings in episodes, the instrumental soundtrack, just beautiful. What makes Creamy Mami unique is that she starts the trend in 80s anime of an average girl that is given the power to transform. It kind of reminds of of Hana no Lun Lun. Two animal sidkicks finds a girl named Yuu and she transforms into a pop idol singer named Creamy Mami. It was Jem and the Holograms before Jem and the Holograms lol. It also starts the trend of having a romance subplot. Yuu has a crush on a boy named Toshio but he has a crush on Creamy Mami, not knowing they're the same person.
Persia the Magic Fairy 1984
Tumblr media
Another good magical girl anime with a catchy theme song. It centers around a girl named Persia from Africa. They don't specify where in Africa but reminds me of the areas in Kenya where tourists go on safaris. Anyhow, she moves to Tokyo with an adopted family, two parents and older twin brothers. The same time she goes to Tokyo, she is given magical powers very similar to Minky Momo. She can grow older and have any profession. Her animal sidekicks are a lion named Simba, and three kappas. This is also the same anime with the out of nowhere John Lennon cameo...
Tumblr media
Magical Emi 1985
Tumblr media
Magical Emi is another really good one. And yes the theme song is good. The animation is amazing. It centers around a girl named Mai who is very clumsy but is given the power to turn into an older girl who is a very good musician and becomes famous. Her sidekick is a talking flying squirrel. There isn't as much of a romantic subplot but she has a crush on a boxer named Shou.
Pastel Yumi 1986
Tumblr media
I mentioned Creamy Mami and Minky Momo having a catching theme song but this one takes the cake. Both the ending and opening song are SO GOOD. Yumi is a an average girl who is given magic powers. Instead of transforming into someone older, she is given a wand and whatever she draws can come to life. I was not expecting to love this anime (especially when they did her so dirty at the end of the first episode. :( :( ). However it ended up being my second favorite 80s magical girl anime next to Creamy Mami. Other than that, she follows the trope of being a kind hearted girl who uses her powers to save the day. There's sort of a romantic subplot?? Yumi has a crush on an older guy named Kyouhei and his younger brother Kenta has a crush on Yumi. Kenta and Yumi are the same age though and are a much better fit imo.
Fashion LaLa 1988
Tumblr media
Instead of a series, this was movie about a girl who transforms into a fashion model. It's sort of like Creamy Mami, where she can change outfits with magic, there's two animal sidekicks. The soundtrack is really good. Also is it just me or does Lala look kind of like Minako?
Tumblr media
I could be just seeing but I swears they have the same hair and eyes.

Fascinated by The Telegraph reporting on 14 Nov 1966 that two Beatles approached Allen Klein via a third party over their future management and I’ve been trying to work out which two (assuming it wasn’t fake news).
Spoiler: this is long and I got nowhere
The obvious is Paul due to his comment about Klein at some point that year.
Beatles 66 assumes it was John and George, I think based purely on the fact that Paul was on holiday. It being John would make sense as another reason Klein would have gone straight to him in 1969.
NME reported on 18 Nov that George, Ringo and particularly John were annoyed about it. Nothing from Paul who was assumed to know nothing about it due to being in Kenya.
So - what were they up to at that time and were they with Brian?
End of touring was Aug 1966, with rumours of The Beatles splitting up starting soon after.
John went off to film How I Won The War, with Ringo visiting him in Spain on 4 Oct until after 9 Oct.
George and Pattie had gone to India on 14 Sept and returned to London on 22 Oct. He was really getting into songwriting around this time.
John came back to the UK after filming How I Won The War on 6 Nov. He met Yoko at the Indica Gallery on 7 Nov. John later said about this period that he wanted to leave the Beatles at this point and didn’t know what to do so he did the film. I don’t know about John’s mood when he was back in London.
All three were back in the UK by early November, though was John in a frame of mind to be thinking about a new manager at that point?
Paul (he was busy although there’s also a lot due to the existence of the Paul McCartney legacy website)
In Sept (date unknown), Paul and Ringo had gone with Brian to see “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” to see if the scriptwriter might be a candidate to write their next film.
On Sept 16 Paul and Brian (and Maggie) travelled to Paris to meet John and Neil.
An article in October about the Beatles splitting up said Paul had gone to see the already-completed Family Way film with Brian Epstein (when?).
In October Paul was doing things like going to the opening of the International Times and hanging out at Robert Fraser’s gallery.
I think in Oct he would have been doing The Family Way (also here) although iirc he finished it off when John was there so perhaps also post-19 Nov.
Paul went on holiday to France on 6 Nov (the day John returned from Spain), meeting Mal a week later then heading to Kenya with Jane for a safari. He returned to London on 19 Nov.
The Four Tops performed at the Saville Theatre, owned by Brian, on 12 Nov. The backdrop for the performance was designed by Paul (although no date as to when).
On 20 Nov Brian held a party for the Four Tops, which John and George attended.
Paul was interviewed for the Nov 1966 edition of Beatles Monthly. He spoke about the problem with the American record company having less songs on the album, in answer to a question on the topic. He says ‘but I think we're beginning to get more control now’ which doesn’t suggest a lot either way.
The article
Tumblr media
Source
Klein arrived in London on Friday 11 Nov, the article was Sunday 13 Nov.
One quote ‘Mr Klein had the approach through a third party who was talking to two of The Beatles’ implies not a lot of time between talking to the third party and Klein but maybe not.
Paul had gone away on 6 Nov, the previous Sunday, so whether they knew in advance about Klein’s visit is one question - although why make an overture via a third party of you’re not there to follow up or find out how it went?
I’d suspect the third party might be The Rolling Stones, given the connection, which could suggest Paul and John?
So… idk
The timing and fact that Paul and Brian were doing a lot together just before that time seems to make it unlikely to have been Paul, John’s mood at that time makes in seem unlikely it was him and I can’t imagine it was Ringo. Paul and John only seem to have seen each other in Paris (with Brian) so seems unlikely to have been the two of them. So I guess it was probably George and either Paul or John.

For tourists with limited time or who want to avoid expensive lodging, day tours are the ideal option. Here are a few inexpensive Kenya safari day trips that guarantee amazing animal experiences without requiring an overnight stay.
The Best Budget-Friendly Kenya Safari Day Trips from Nairobi

The estimated cost per person, excluding park fees, is KES 4,000 to 7,000.
Nairobi National Park is a good option for a day trip to Kenya on a budget safari. Although this park is technically so close to a major metropolis, it teems with wildlife, which is why they call it “the world’s only wildlife capital.” If you’re in for the classic safari creatures, within a relatively short span of time, then you are at the right park since you’ll see plenty of sightings of rhinos as well as the larger cat species, which includes lions and cheetahs. It’s the perfect yet affordable entrance into the untamed part of Kenya.
2. Close up, personal with conservation at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Giraffe Centre.
Lang’ata Nairobi

The attractions are the chimpanzee sanctuary, the rhino sanctuary, and the Big Five.
The estimated cost per participant, with transportation and admittance fees, would stand at KES 6,000 to 8,500.
Some of the best Kenya safari day experiences that one can enjoy for an intensive safari experience without blowing up budget are in Ol Pejeta Conservancy. It is an interesting destination that places Ol Pejeta out from the long drive from Nairobi because most low-budget tour firms offer Kenya safari day trips.
Best Tips for Budget Day Trips in Kenya
Here are some of the best tips to enjoy budget safari day trips in Kenya.
Travel Off-Peak: It is best to travel during the off-peak season as weekends and public holidays are usually more expensive and busy. This could mean higher prices for the day trip.
Group Tours: As costs are divided between many people, group safari day trips in Kenya tend to be cheaper than private tours.
Bring Your Own Snacks: While some tours may include meals, it’s economical to bring your own snacks and drinks, especially in more remote areas.
Book well in advance: To ensure the lowest rates, book Kenya safari day trips long before arrival. The more popular places such as Nairobi National Park get reserved fast.

Nairobi National Park is the ultimate destination with many bird species and is within the city limits for city explorers and bird enthusiasts.
For Families and Conservators: Families with children are going to enjoy the education and interactive programmes of David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Giraffe Centre.
If you’re okay with a little taste of off-town experience but still need to have the true African safari experience while still gaining much attention in observational aspects, Ol Pejeta Conservancy will be one of the ultimate sites, especially for great game wildlife enthusiasts looking at catching sights of the Big Five.

Top 7 must-see places in Kenya to visit
This broad continent has more to offer in terms of culture, wildlife, and landscapes. It is one of the best travel experiences ever in Africa. The vast savannah is filled with wildlife; the Indian Ocean is host to the most secluded beaches. A truly rich profile of attractions, Kenya has something to cater to the trip needs of every traveler. Its national parks and reserves, which include the famous Maasai Mara and Amboseli, are internationally recognized for the wildlife safaris and for being home to the famous Big Five.
Kenya is more than the safari; it is much more than cultures and languages that belong to the people of Kenya. The cities and cultural heritage sites, like Nairobi and Lamu, are synonymous with history and the warm, welcoming spirit of Kenya. Getting a Kenya Visa is the first most important step for an international traveler making plans for his or her trip to Kenya. You should be ready whether it is for a weekend getaway, a few days of visiting wildlife, or an extended stay in the "Mother Land" to take in that rich culture and incredible scenery. The right visa makes your travel smooth and hassle-free. With your Kenya Visa, you'll be seeing national parks, historical sites, and those lovely coastal towns that top the bill for Kenya as a travel destination. With so much to see and do, Kenya promises a most memorable experience.
Tumblr media
Here are some must-see places in Kenya to visit.
1. Maasai Mara National Reserve:
Tumblr media
Its name is synonymous with great migration - one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth, when millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles crossing the plains on their way to greener pastures. This natural phenomenon usually occurs between July and October and attracts travelers from all around the world. Other than the migration, guests can enjoy a game drive that brings them within the vicinity of the Big Five - lion, elephants, leopards, rhinoceros, and buffaloes. The vast landscapes of Mara dotted with acacia trees and open savannah provide beautiful backdrops for photography and unforgettable safari experiences.
2. Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park lies at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro and is famous for the views it offers of Africa's highest mountain, set against a background that is both arid and lush. The most popular feature of this park, though, is its elephants, which can be seen roaming free on the vast plains. Their presence against the backdrop of the snow-capped peak is an awesome and memorable picture, perfect for nature lovers and photographers alike. Visitors can enjoy game drives, birdwatching, and guided nature walks to experience the park's unique ecosystem and learn about Maasai culture.
3. Tsavo National Parks (Tsavo East and Tsavo West)
Tsavo is the biggest national park in Kenya, and it is split into two areas, Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Open spaces with many animals characterize Tsavo East, while Tsavo West has more hilly, rocky-lava landscapes and the Mzima Springs, which is an oasis for animals. In both the places, you can get good chances to see lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and many types of antelope. The variety of landscapes and animals should make Tsavo a must-visit destination for any traveler who wishes to understand the wilderness in its rawness in Kenya.
4. Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru, famous for thousands of flamingos, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers spectacular birdwatching paradises. The park also has black and white rhinos, making it one of the premier areas in Kenya to watch these endangered species. Picturesque rocky hills and acacia trees framing this lovely view certainly complete the image and catalytic photography. Game drives in the Lake Nakuru National Park promise sightings of a variety of wildlife, such as lions, leopards, and buffalo, making it a significant stopover for safari lovers.
5. Nairobi National Park
Just a short drive from the bustling capital city, Nairobi National Park is a unique wildlife sanctuary where you can spot rhinos, lions, zebras, and giraffes against the backdrop of city skyscrapers. This proximity to an urban setting makes it a special and convenient option for those who want a taste of the wild without venturing far from the city. The park is an excellent location for families and those on tight schedules who still wish to experience the magic of Kenya’s wildlife and landscapes.
6. Lamu Island
For those seeking a mix of culture, history, and relaxation, Lamu Island is the perfect destination. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lamu Old Town boasts ancient Swahili architecture, winding narrow streets, and a laid-back atmosphere that embodies the rich cultural heritage of the coastal region. Visitors can take traditional dhow rides, explore local markets, and enjoy the island’s pristine beaches. Lamu offers a more tranquil and culturally immersive experience compared to Kenya’s bustling mainland, making it ideal for those looking to unwind and explore the historical roots of the country.
7. Mount Kenya
The 7th from Mount Kenya Africa's second-highest peak and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kenya, trekkers, climbers, and nature lovers worldwide are drawn to Kenya. Its diverse ecosystems-from tropical forests, through alpine meadows, to snow-capped peaks-support a rich variety of flora and fauna. Among these is the unique and elusive bongo antelope. The climbing routes range from easy hikes to technical ascents for the most experienced mountaineers. The views from the summit are scenery that would delight anybody that embarks on this adventure.
Conclusion:
Traveling to Kenya and checking all its sights creates sweet permanent memories and builds an understanding of the country's unique offerings. Travels began
At around 0700 on 10/6/24.
The safari vehicle would take us through the Maasai Mara River area over 3 days.
The city became almost nothing but farms the further away we were from the start.
We changed routes in the fog, as there was a delay in the flow of traffic towards the west.
There were a few viewpoints to stop and look over the rural Kenyan landscape.
The stop we made at Lake Naivashu would be our first encounter with the native wildlife.
The animals we saw by boat included the hippo, stork, and other birds like the cormorant.
Small groups of land animals were around the lake - giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, waterbucks, impalas.
Camp was set at a tent-site in the interior part of a field area further on our way west.
10/7/24
The day began at 0700, although I had been awake for several hours at that time.
Lake Nakuru National Park was our next destination. It was a lengthier journey to drive through, and it included more opportunities to see groups of wildlife.
We were out of the park at around 1300, and the drive until the evening led us to the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The campsite was another tent-site.
10/8/24
This was our first look at the large cats - leopards, and lions.
There were some hyenas by the road as well.
The drive included a lot of low-inclined hills to observe the landscape and most of what the reserve area contained.
As two cheetahs passed by the safari-cars, we waited and observed them looking out at some of the topi. They eventually chased one down, dragging it downwards until it was limp at the neck. One cheetah went for the right-front leg, while the other one put its weight on a bite to the neck.
For the next hour, we drove through the reserve, back towards the campsite.
We visited a tribe, which greeted us with chants and fire-building.
We observed some of the earth huts, and walked through some of the booths behind them (with things like souvenirs inside).
10/9/24
The next day’s journey led us into the Tanzania border.
The road there was kind of closed, but there was a means of using the side of the road, instead of the road through, which appeared to be in the process of being paved.
This continued onwards south, until the road was just a dirt road.
We reached Serengeti National Park at around 1700.
The first group of animals we saw, closer to the entrance, was a group of wildebeest.
We stopped at a tent-site for the night, and resumed on the path through the park the next morning.
10/10/24
There were interesting landscapes, and groups of animals here and there.
The number of wildebeest present was a result of the Great Migration in the Serengeti, where a large number of the animals cross through the border area between Kenya and Tanzania.
We observed this area for about an hour - a river crossing with a few different spots that they crossed through in coordination with others, some spots past crocodiles and hippopotami.
We went past, mostly through the Serengeti, before stopping at another gate to the park. Nearby was the campsite for the night.
The drive to the campsite inside took about three hours, with a detour for a site with hippos (maybe 50 in quantity).
10/11/24
We continued on our path through the Serengeti, as we observed larger quantities of the Thomson’s gazelle, with a few large cats.
This observation included another cheetah chase, after a group of the gazelle. I did not observe a successful kill on its part.
We made our way out of the park by around 1600. The next stop would be the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
It was a large crater, where we stopped at a viewpoint by the top, which overlooked a lake, only to proceed to the next stop for the night, and return the next day.
10/12/24
We went towards the other side of the crater, and drove downwards towards the grassland area inside.
The lake contained some salt, and was a habitat to flamingos.
We could see several more lions here, as well as wildebeest.
Our journey began in the mid-afternoon, towards Arusha, Tanzania, where we awaited transportation to Nairobi for an evening flight.
The drive was not long, and traffic began to form as we approached the outer part of the metropolitan area.
The flight to LHR took about 8 hours. The flight to SFO took about 11 hours.
