Wedding of Prince Mateen of Brunei

The wedding celebrations of Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah and Anisha Rosnah Isa binti Adam Kalebic have started in Brunei. I still haven't gotten a very clear picture of her engagement ring yet but it is a very large diamond.

The first event was the Majlis Khatam Al-Quran where Anisha read the Quran. It's wasn't broadcast like some of the later events will be but someone in attendance posted a clip if you want to watch. Her dress is a Baju Kurung made of Tenunan Brunei fabric by Teh Firdaus.

Then Anisha wore another dress by Teh Firdaus for the Berbedak Mandi after the public ceremonial events on the 9th. The bride and groom weren't seen during the first two parts where the official betrothal gifts were presented but she is looking at the gifts in the photos. I noticed diamond earrings, a ring that looks like it's from Chaumet's Josephine Aigrette collection, a necklace with a large colored stone (maybe sapphire) pendant, a Patek Philippe watch, and a big diamond feather amongst the gifts.

On the 10th was the Majlis Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja or Royal Powdering Ceremony when the couples' family applies colored paste and scented oils to their hands. It's my favorite part of Bruneian royal weddings because of the beautiful outfit worn by the bride. It looks like Anisha used the same gold jewelry as Mateen's sisters except for the belt. She also wore the same diamond earrings that Princess Fadzillah and Princess Azemah wore for their powdering ceremonies.

The Akad Nikah was next which is when the couple are officially married. On the left is Prince Mateen at the Berbedak and on the right is him at the Akad Nikah.

The Majlis Bersanding Pengantin Diraja and parade on the 14th finally brings us the first tiara! The now Princess Anisha wore some major diamonds and a simple dress made of a beautiful woven patterned fabric. We got new information about the tiara that was first worn last year by Princess Azemah. It was made by Singapore based jeweler, Flower Diamond, and features over 132 carats of diamonds.

The Majlis Persantapan Diraja on the 15th is the last big event. It's a massive banquet at Istana Nurul Iman with around 5,000 guests. Princess Anisha wore Queen Saleha's Diamond Tiara which has been worn by several of her new sisters-in-law for their wedding celebrations. She did not use the optional heart diamond center but did use the blue and pink diamond toppers.

Gus and Anya appeared publicly for the first time as a newly-engaged couple at today's photo call where Anya proudly showed off her new diamond ring!

The photo call was held at the Brindleton Palace Ruby Hall. The very short event marks Gus' first "official" appearance as a soon-to-be member of the Royal Family. And although the couple looked great together, Gus did seem a little bit tense at the beginning.

The ring, which Anya proudly showed off, features a massive oval diamond set in gold. The band appears to be studded with smaller diamonds, too. It was cocktail length, one piece, with the fabric a mauve-toned gray marquisette, slightly stiffened. The marquisette started just below the bust line and fell simply into a graceful skirt. It was about 7:30 in the evening when Vader asked for your presence in his apartments.

“As you are aware” He starts, hands clasped in front of himself as he speaks “That tomorrow we will be officially announcing our engagement. And, since we never got around to picking out an engagement ring for you, I decided to have one designed” He gestures towards the jeweller who steps forward, holding a velvet crushed box in his hands. Vader gently pries the lid off and places it onto the table beside him

“Oh my!” You exclaim, rushing to get a closer look at the ring “It’s gorgeous” You breathe “May I put it on?”

“Of course, it is yours to wear anyway” Vader replies, but the look in your eyes and your outstretched hand makes him realise what you meant “Ah” He pulls the ring out with his thumb and forefinger and slowly slips it onto your finger “Fits perfectly” His blank mask stares towards you and you half hope that he’s smiling at you

“If I may” The Jeweller stands to the side of you and Vader, the box once in his hands now placed beside the lid on the table “The band is 24 carat gold and that beautiful gem right there” He points to the beautiful ombre stone right at the centre of the ring “Is an alexandrite…A-and of course we have 10 carat diamonds around the alexandrite” You nod along to what the Jeweller was saying, though your focus was mainly towards the beautiful ring that had been placed on by your soon to be husband

“Thank you so much, Vader” Your smile broadens as you look up towards him “You truly have an eye for making beautiful things”

“Only for you, my love” Your cheeks heated up at the new, but not unwelcome nickname “My first wife never got to wear an engagement ring or wedding ring” He says, and you quickly feel your smile drop to a neutral expression

Here we go again with the first wife shtick. You will yourself not to roll your eyes at the mention of the deceased wife of your fiancé. It was just getting ridiculous at this point.

“This is something I never got to experience with her, but now I have the chance to try again, with you” You didn’t know how to feel about the comment, instead opting to nod in response

“It’s getting late” You finally say “So I should probably get some rest”

“Of course…Good night, my love” Vader’s gloved hand clutched onto your smaller one and brings it up to his mouthguard, letting it hover there for a moment before letting go, his hands moving to clasp behind his back

Standing on the outskirts of the gardens, you chewed on the bottom of your lip as you nervously eyed workers adjusting the Cam Droids. Although it was a silk white dress, you could still feel the fabric of silk sticking to the sweat patches that had accumulated under your armpits, though the cape of light pinks and yellows most definitely didn’t help in cooling you down. You quickly turned to face the glass door when you heard them creak open, Vader’s gold-lined cape with a regal red that you only just noticed colouring the inside, billowed dramatically behind him as he walks towards you “Good morning” He tips his mask towards you and you follow his movements, instead dipping into a low curtsey “I see you are wearing the dress I brought you... Do you like it?”

“Very much, Vader.” A nervous smile spreads across your face and you feel the warm trickle of sweat dripping down your forehead

“No need to be worried, my love” He says, pulling a handkerchief from the hands of one of his servants and gently dabbing it across your face, being careful so as not to smudge your lightly applied makeup “You’ll do fine” His words of comfort eased you ever so slightly. Though, only moments later did the uneasiness arise once again, when one of the butlers scurried forwards to inform Vader that the photographers would be coming in momentarily “My love?” His hand tangles itself with yours and he gently tugs you towards the fountain right in the centre of the garden

And sure enough, the photographers all barreled through the doors and took their places, cameras at the ready whilst Vader took his place behind you, his hand clasping your shoulder as you gently leaned against his chestplate, an innocent smile gracing your lips as you looked directly into the camera

“Miss!” The photographers called “Show us the ring” You obliged happily, extending your hand out to show off the beautiful ring which adorned your finger, Vader's hand stretched forwards as well his hand dipping under yours to hold your hand

“Where did the Emperor propose?” One asked excitedly

You looked up to Vader before responding with; “In the palace gardens, it was all quite beautiful”

“And how did you two get acquainted with each other?” Another asked

Vader opted to take over the question, answering cooly; “Her father works for me, I met her when I went to visit their home a few months ago, it was love at first sight for me, though I’m not sure what she thought at first”

The cameras continued to go off as you and Vader stood in silence, occasionally answering a reporter's question. Though, soon enough, the reporters were shooed away by the guards, except for a young reporter working for the Empire Broadcasting Corporation.

“Good morning, your majesty and Miss Piett” The reporter bowed respectfully before returning to their full height

“Please, let's have a seat” Vader gestured towards the garden table and chairs just a few feet away from the fountain “I’m sure a few butlers will come out with some tea and other treats”

Your grip on Vader’s hand tightened as you followed him and the reporter towards the chairs. A wave of confusion crashed against you, your brows furrowing when you realised the happiness you felt whilst standing in front of the cameras had disappeared so suddenly “...Iett, Miss Piett, are you alright?” The reporter asked, extending a serviette towards you

“Huh? Oh yes I’m perfectly fine, what was it you asked me?” You shook your head gently, offering the reporter an encouraging smile

“I was asking how you’ve been dealing with everything since your engagement?”

“Oh- I see..Well, to be honest, I’ve just been taking it one step at a time. Granted, there have been tough times, but he-” You place a hand on Vader's arm and give it a gentle squeeze “Has made it all worth it”

“And uhm, may we see the ring once more?” They ask

“Of course!” You grin, stretching your arm forward to give them a proper look “The gem right there in the middle is alexandrite and there are diamonds surrounding it” You explain, recalling what the jeweller told you just a few hours prior

“Do you both have an idea of when the ceremony will be held?” The reporter asked, jotting down a few notes onto their notepad

“The date hasn’t properly set but we were thinking perhaps sometime in the spring” You nodded along, you had to force your smile

Since when did you even discuss when the wedding would be…? And why so soon?

“And, your majesty, if you don’t mind me asking, where do you plan to have the honeymoon?”

“My fiancée and I haven’t discussed it yet, but the one place that comes to mind is Varykino on Naboo that has a beautiful villa out on the lake...The view is almost as beautiful as the one sitting next to me” You feel your cheeks warm up at the compliment “What do you think, my love?”

“I think it sounds like a lovely idea” Your gaze landing on his for a few moments before returning back to face the camera

The interview continued for another few minutes, before the reporter bid their farewell, quickly packing up their equipment and leaving in a haste through the same clear glass doors that Vader came through over an hour ago. The hand that had been holding onto Vader's arm dropped back to its side as he stood up and left without another word. You shrugged your shoulders before standing up and wordlessly walking back inside

A sigh of relief escaped your lips as you eased your back against the small cracked porcelain bathtub- well, compared to the bathtub from your old home, this was much smaller. The small wisps of hair that had fallen from your hastily tied up-do had stuck to the tub, your head leaning against the rim as you once again- for the upteenth time that day- raised your hand and admired the engagement ring that had been placed onto your finger a little less than twenty-four hours ago. The moonlight hit the diamonds and alexandrite just right, making it practically glow. A small smile formed on your lips as you dipped your head under the water.

🎬 Love’s Second Act – (streamed on Great American Pure Flix)

This is a lighthearted, family-friendly rom-com. The movie was a little slow for me, at times, but it was still a nice watch. It’s the standard story of a woman ,Jamie, played by Jodie Sweetin ("Full House," "Craft Me a Romance," "The Jane Mysteries") who leaves her hometown years ago, then returns and reconnects with her family and her childhood sweetheart, Nick, played by Tilky Jones ("Christmas Love Letter," "The Charm of Love").

Of course, the family business, the local theater, is also in danger of being sold by Nick’s father (played by George Wendt, famously known as Norm on the sitcom, "Cheers"). The theater is a special memorable place for Nick and Jamie, where they worked together as teenagers.

Overall, it is a pleasant, feel-good movie with a happy ending.

A side note for "Full House" fans… I thought it was kind of funny that Jodie played the older sister, and her sister’s name, of all names, was Stephanie.

I wonder if "Love’s Second Act" might be one of the movies we’ll see on Great American Family later this Summer or early Fall. (Update: I wrote this review on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and my hunch was right! I'm glad more viewers will have a chance to view this movie, if they like, on Great American Family.) ~Net

I think Net has more or less covered all there is to say about this movie. Standard Rom.Com fare which you will have seen many times over. I'm not the biggest fan of Jodie Sweetin nor do I dislike her but I though she and Tilby Jones who although somewhat easygoing combined quite well together

It's one of those where you have to suspend belief - how could the theatre possibly have survived to date, , where did the money come from to buy a new popcorn machine,, the miraculous "saving" of the theatre, Jamie presenting her manuscript which she had returned home to complete to her agent on time etc.

The secondary cast was fine except for Nick's father who was a ridiculous character.

Taking all this together it shouldn't have worked and I agree it was slow moving at times but maybe because it was my favourite theme of "lovers reunited" I somewhat surprisingly have to say I actually enjoyed it - Florence's rating 7

Spending Christmas with H felt romantic and magical, almost as if you were a child around this time again. There was nothing better then spending Christmas with either your of your familles or just you two as a couple.

For Christmas Eve and day, you were both spending Christmas at Anne’s home. Which was exciting news for the both of you. Y/n practically saw y/n as a daughter and y/n was thrilled to be part of the family.

H was just as happy, when he quickly went to use the bathroom he could hear yours, Gemma’s, and Anne’s giggles from downstairs. Knowing his 3 favourite girls get along so well and are so comfortable around one another made his heart practically beam.

The concept of a "shut up ring" is a bit... unsettling.

"Your man would know if he wanted to marry you, why has he waited 5 years" because getting married isn't a goal everyone has? Because getting married is expensive? Because you have built up in your head a Hollywood expectation that your partner feels they can't live up to? Because he doesn't know you want to marry him? Because he has a timeline in his own mind and wants to get there on his own time? Because you've told him you want a diamond ring and a 1 carat mined diamond can cost £11,000 (and a 1 carat lab grown diamond can cost £2,500)?

I've just watched a video where a 30 odd year old woman is telling teenagers that if a man wants to marry you, he'll ask you within 6 months. I think this is an unrealistic expectation that is bound to set future relationships up for failure. Being married is a nice thing to do but is it essential?

The UK average for a wedding is £30,000 and rising. For a single day.

Am I saying some men don't want their cake and to eat it too? No. But is it ridiculous that the internet is so obsessed with telling people how to live, we've now decided that if people get married after more than a year of dating, he doesn't want his partner and he's doing it to shut his partner up? Getting married is a personal decision and rushing into it because someone on tiktok told you if they ask you within the first year that means they love you is terrible advice. Your partner asking you after 7 years and 3 kids isn't a "shut up ring".

Stop listening to people on the internet give relationship advice - most of these people are extremely unhappy and borderline unhinged in their thinking.

Have you ever asked your partner what they want? They aren't bothered about dressing up and spending thousands on a single day. They aren't bothered about 6-18 months of planning.

It was nearly 10 a.m. when Marlene and Dorcas finally stumbled into the Great Hall the next morning. That was actually earlier than anyone had probably expected them to be up, but seeing as they had passed out around 4 p.m. the previous day, they had actually woken up around 7 a.m. It had then taken another three hours for them to figure out where they were, actually get up, vomit, shower (together, obviously), and get dressed. As it was, they were still the last of their group to make it into the Great Hall. 

“There’s the lovebirds!” someone said smugly. Dorcas didn’t even take the time to figure out which person said that, just blindly threw up her middle finger and sat down. 

“Feel like shit,” she groaned, “and my head is pounding, so all of you, shut up.” 

“Food, now,” Marlene said and made grabby hands. “Make it as greasy as possible.” Dorcas made a noise of agreement. 

The others laughed at them, but there were soon two plates full of bacon, fried eggs, and toast dripping in butter placed in front of them. They dug in immediately. 

When Dorcas finally looked up, she frowned. “Where are Alice, Frank, Peter, and Mary?”

“Mary left with a Ravenclaw girl around 9 p.m., and I haven’t seen her since. Peter is still passed out under the snack table,” James informed them. Then, he smirked, and the light glinted off his glasses. “As for Alice and Frank, they left around 10 last night.”

Marlene whined. “But they were supposed to spend the weekend to celebrate our engagement.”

Sirius laughed, mirth in his eyes. “Oh, you know, they probably wanted to go home and celebrate their own engagement.”

“What?!” Marlene shrieked. 

Dorcas moaned. “Loud,” she whined. 

Marlene pecked her cheek. “Sorry, love,” she apologized, then turned back to the others. “Frank and Alice got engaged? They totally stole our thunder!” 

The others gaped at her, and Lily spoke up, “You really don’t remember anything from yesterday, do you?”

“No,” Marlene and Dorcas said in unison. They exchanged a glance. “What happened?” 

The others all looked at each other. Remus said, “Who wants to start the story?”

James went first. “I guess I’ll start since we were there.” He cleared his throat. “You two got back from Hogsmeade around noon, I think? It was still pretty early. Anyway, you were both already tipsy when you got here, not drunk, though. We had the party ready and you were super excited, and Marlene kept screaming about how she’d ‘bagged the best one’ or something like that.”

“Hang on, I remember this,” Dorcas noted. 

“Same here,” Marlene agreed. “Skip to the part where we’re actually drunk.”

James sighed. “You guys went off on your own for a while, so I’m not sure when you went from ‘tipsy’ to ‘pissed out of your minds’, but I know at some point you decided you were going to convince the rest of us to get engaged and, quote, ‘be as happy as we are’.”

Dorcas gaped at him, and Marlene let out a small grunt-whimper noise. “Did-did we succeed?” she asked weakly. 

James grinned. “You tell me.” 

Dorcas and Marlene gasped, for both Lily and Remus held up a hand to show off their shiny new engagement rings. 

“Oh my god!” Marlene said in wonderment while Dorcas pulled their hands forward to get a closer look. 

Both rings were beautiful, each in their own way. Where Remus’ was a simple, pure gold band, Lily’s was an extravagant silver painted red and green braided to look like vines, and where Remus’ had RL+SB engraved in it, Lily’s had an at least five carat diamond sitting on top. Both must have cost a fortune. 

“Wow, guys, they’re beautiful!” Dorcas gushed. “So how did it happen?”

Lily giggled. “I can’t speak for Sirius and Remus, but for us, as well as Alice and Frank I believe, Marlene sort of let slip that James and Frank already had rings stashed somewhere and needed to suck it up and ask us already.”

Marlene’s mouth dropped open. “I said that? Merlin, I am so sorry.”

“It’s all right. Without the heads up, who knows when they would have finally asked!” Lily grinned. 

“Hey! I told you I was waiting for our one-year anniversary,” chided James, though he was smiling. 

Lily continued, “Anyway, after that, you two passed out - at 4 p.m., mind - so we took you up to the boys’ dorm and laid you on Sirius’ bed.”

Remus snorted. “That was at 4? We went up there at 5:30, so we thought maybe 5 at the earliest.” He raised an eyebrow. “That’s pretty sad, guys.” 

Marlene flipped him off.

Lily flashed him a smile. “When I came back in, he had completely transformed the dorm. There were no dirty clothes on the floor, all the books were put away-”

This time, Lily didn’t even acknowledge them. “-all the curtains were closed so that it felt like one tiny room, and he had transfigured a bunch of tiny, floating garden lights.” Marlene and Dorcas oohed and aahed. “Then he got down on one knee, gave a little speech, and proposed!” she finished. 

“That’s wonderful!” Dorcas said. 

James broke in. “No, no, no, you can’t leave out the part where you made me think you were about to say ‘no’!”

Marlene giggled. “You did what?” 

Lily blushed. “It was only for a second, and then I said ‘yes’!” she hurried to say. James just looked at her with humor and adoration. 

Dorcas smiled as well. She was glad her friends had found such happiness. “Well, I’m glad we could be your catalyst.”

“Me, too,” added Marlene. She turned to Remus and Sirius. “And you two?”

Remus’ cheeks turned vibrant red. “You were less a catalyst for us and more of a…wake-up call.” Next to him, Sirius nodded. Remus took a deep breath as if he was about to admit something embarrassing. “Sirius actually proposed to me a week ago.”

Four loud gasps rang out from their little section of table; James in particular looked betrayed. 

He swatted Sirius on the shoulder. “He said ‘no’ and you didn’t tell me?” 

Sirius glowered at him but rubbed his arm. “I assumed you got the message when he avoided me all week,” mumbled Sirius. 

“And I didn’t technically say no,” Remus countered. 

Sirius glowered some more. “No, instead you panicked and ran. I couldn’t find you until classes the next day!”

Lily, knowing they wouldn’t stop until someone stopped them, cut in: “It’s over now. He said yes, so you can forget about it.” 

They both mumbled variations of “yeah” and “fine”. 

“So, what did happen yesterday?” Dorcas inquired. 

“Once the party really started, I decided I wasn’t going to let him avoid me anymore,” said Sirius. 

Remus scoffed. “That’s one way to put it! He found me at the beginning of the party and wouldn’t leave me alone the whole afternoon!”

“I was making sure you didn’t run off again,” defended Sirius. 

“Well, it worked. From noon to half past 5, we were attached, and he kept making passive aggressive remarks about how nice it must be to love someone so much you have to get married right then.”

Dorcas winced. “Ouch.”

“Yeah.” Remus rolled his eyes. “At some point, I’d had enough, so we went upstairs. We were actually about to start fighting when we heard you two snoring, but you were so drunk, we figured it would take an explosion to wake you up.”

“We got loud, though. You were lucky you were so pissed, or you definitely would have heard the whole thing,” Sirius piped up. 

Remus’ eyes crinkled. “Indeed. And that was when we really got into it.”

Sirius nodded. “Full on screaming, yelling, cursing, the whole nine yards. Eventually, Remus realized he was being stupid-” Remus huffed but didn’t argue “-and he ended up asking me. Sort of.”

“Sort of?” Marlene prompted.

“Yeah. It was the end of the argument, and he gave me a, ‘do you still want to get married?’” Sirius shook his head, a smile on his face. “I said ‘yes’ of course.”

"Naturally," Marlene said. 

"I still think it's sweet," Dorcas added, "however dubious the start." The others nodded. 

"How did the rest of the night go?" Marlene asked. 

James answered, "The actual party didn't go too much longer since somehow Minnie found out and broke it up, but we all stayed up and talked. Played some games. Once we found out the six of us and Frank and Alice had all gotten engaged because of you two, everybody decided they wanted to do another party over Christmas break, so we didn't stay up that long, and Frank and Alice decided to just go home."

Marlene clapped her hands. "Yes! Another party! Whose house is it going to be at?"

There was a unanimous vote of, "James!" and someone posed the next question, and again, and again, and as (most of) her favorite people in the world planned their four way engagement party, Dorcas decided she didn't care that they were still in school. She didn't care about the looming threats or the war; all she cared about was the woman at her side and the life they would have together.
