Lessons of Resistance from WWII: The Rosenstrasse Protest and Evacuation of the Danish Jews

So a long history rant I think people should know about and keep in mind for the future. I want to talk to people about a little talked about story in the history of WWII, the Rosenstrasse protest: the one time, during the height of the Holocaust, when the German public protested against the deportation of Jews; and they won.

1942-early 1943 was arguably the height of Nazi Germany; with most of the continent occupied, allied, or neutral to them. It was also 2 years into the Final Solution phase of the Holocaust, the planned mass killing of Jews. In February 1943, the government began the final round-up of the 20,000 remaining Jews in Berlin. This included a category of Jews that the government had previously avoided deporting: Jews married to gentile Germans. While the Nazis had cracked down on these relationships since they came to power, there were at this time 1,800 mixed couples remaining in Berlin; almost all Jewish men married to gentile women (After the consolidation of power under Hitler, more German men had divorced their Jewish partners than women).

When these Jewish men were arrested, hundreds of their non-Jewish spouses descended upon the building they were held in, bringing with them friends and families, screaming for their husbands to be released. The protests were so large, that the Nazis could not suppress news of it spreading through Germany and internationally; and they were also genuinely afraid that arresting or shooting these women could cause the situation to spiral even further into an outright uprising. As a result, the men were released, and most of them survived the war.

Now there are a lot of critiques and analyses that can be done of the protest, about privilege and gender, and noting that nothing was said about releasing the 18,000 other Berlin Jews set to be deported to camps. Still, the reaction that the public had to these deportations, combined with the shockingly hopeful story of Denmark in the Holocaust, gives some valuable lessons in how fascists can be thwarted.

Demark was invaded by Germany in 1939 and was given a degree of autonomy, being treated as the "model protectorate." While the Danish government did acquiesce to demands to ban Communist and Socialist political parties, they refused to enact racial laws targeting Danish Jews. While not to say anti-semitism didn't exist in Denmark, for reasons debated by historians and sociologists, Denmark did not have a strong history of "othering" its Jewish community, and it was largely seen as an accepted part of Danish society.

In September 1943, German plans to deport the Danish Jewish community to concentration camps leaked to the Danish government, which then alerted leaders of the Jewish community. Over 3 weeks churches, civil servants (notably mostly working independently of the government), political parties, the Danish resistance (mostly at this point made up of the before mentioned Communists and Socialists), and private individuals helped evacuate 7,220 Jews, plus 686 non-Jewish spouses, by sea to nearby neutral Sweden. For context, the Jewish population of Denmark before the invasion was around 7,800. Of the 580 Danish Jews who failed to escape to Sweden, 464 were arrested; however, work by Swedish and Danish groups saw 425 of them released. Further, when the war ended, it was discovered that 116 Danish Jews had been hidden by their neighbors. In all, a shocking 99% of Denmark's Jewish population survived the Holocaust; the most of any occupied nation in Europe.

I tell both of these stories because they show what fascists and authoritarians are aware of: the limits of their power. They are aware of the simple fact so much of their power comes from average people just accepting what they do with no pushback. These groups thrive on atomization, demonization, and otherization. Because when people refuse to let their neighbors be attacked, that's when issues pop up. There were other individuals and groups in Germany who spoke out against the Nazis (the White Rose and the Edelweiss Pirates to name a few), but they were small and disorganized, they could be arrested or exiled or killed without much effort. But large groups of resistance? How do you arrest or kill those without stopping their families and friends from protesting? And the foot soldiers enacting their agenda tend to get antsy if there is large-scale pushback to them. The big guys in charge might be safe, but them? They are vulnerable to being fired, sued, arrested, or ostracised if they are seen enacting unpopular policies. Such actions put authorities on the defensive, stall them, and make them reconsider their tactics; which in the long run, can save lives.

This is what people mean, whether they know it or not, over the last few days when they have been saying "Help those close to you, keep your friends close." They want you to think they are all-powerful. They want you to think they are unstoppable. They want you to think there is no hope in openly denying them. Because they know that if those few people openly defying them become large groups openly defying them, then things spiral out of control.

A/N: I wrote this as a sort of therapy piece. Two things mentioned in this story are insecurities of mine. And sometimes I just imagine a lovely anime boy telling me he’s going to protect me. So yeah. Very self-indulgent.

You were officially having the worst day ever. Currently, you were curled up in the far corner of your husband’s office, behind his couch. You were squeezed into a tight ball, shaking and crying like a child. All because you were embarrassed in front of your husband’s coworkers.

Honestly, you couldn’t remember who it was who did it and you frankly didn’t care. You could still remember what he did clearly, even though it happened over an hour ago. You don’t think you were ever going to forget.

You were on your way to your husband’s office with some important paperwork when some guy jumped out and scared you. You hated jumpscares because you always felt stupid afterwards. However, after he jumped out, you tripped over your own feet and fell on your ass.

While you were trying to fight back your heavy breathing and tears, the guy laughed and said, “Ha! Gotcha, you whore.”

You were frozen.

A whore? Is that what these people thought of you? You thought…

You shook your head. It didn’t matter what you thought anymore. What mattered is that no one here respected you. Maybe your own husband didn’t respect you like you thought. You just wanted to disappear and believe none of this ever happened. That when you close your eyes, count to three, and open them, you’d be home again.

The door to the office opened. You heard Rindou call out to you, “Baby? Are you here? Ran said he saw you run in here.”

Baby. You were right. Your own husband didn’t even respect you to see you as anything more than a child. Were you being dramatic? Sure. But you still felt justified in being a little extreme considering the humiliation you were subjected to.

“Babe?” Rindou’s voice was much closer to you now and you felt his shoulder brush against yours. You squeezed yourself into a tighter ball to get away from him. “Hey. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. Go away.”

“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me. Something is bothering you and I will do whatever I can to make it right.”

“No! It’s embarrassing and I just want to crawl into a hole and die!”

You weakly struggled against him when he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into his lap. “Love, please. Let me help you.”

Taking a few breaths to try and calm yourself, you told him. You recounted the mortifying ordeal with the jumpscare and how he called you a whore. You then let your insecurities spill, how you were so stupid that you could handle a bloody massacre but couldn’t watch a horror movie. You mentioned that you didn’t think anyone respected you, much less like you and you wished you weren’t so dramatic, but explained that these were the thoughts and feelings you were having.

When you were done, Rindou didn’t say anything for a long time. You were about to ask him to say something when he whispered, “I’ll kill him.”

“What?”

“I’ll fucking kill him. I’ll gut him like a fish and feed him to your piranhas for making you feel this way.” He snapped, his voice cold and deadly.

You shook your head and burrowed yourself into his chest. “Don’t do that. You’ll make yourself work more for something those fish won’t eat.”

He gave a slight chuckle but pulled you in closer. “I’m glad you’re making jokes but I’m furious someone would make you doubt yourself like that. You are not a baby and you are not a whore. I love you so much, I married you. If you want, I’ll stop calling you baby. I call you whatever you want. But you have to know that I have never thought less of you and I never will. You are the love of my life and I will never, ever stop loving you, okay?”

You nodded. “Can we go home?”

Rindou kissed the top of your head. “Of course, my love. Right after I call Ran, okay? I have to order a hit.”

“Tell him to be slow and painful.”

“Anything for you.”

You ever get a flashback of some random argument that never happened but you feel like it did? Sorry, that's probably hella specific but you know what I mean. Anyways, I was digging through some of my stuff when I found this weird ass script, with a picture of a TV wearing a bow tie on it. Thinking about it now, I probably should've told someone about it, 3 or 4 maybe. But I didn't. Mainly because I just didn't think it was important. Its not like it had a name on it or anything, just a picture. Anyways, I opened it and all it had was a script. Well, not a script exactly, more like a part of a story? I don't know, but this is what it said:

"That’s exactly it! I can’t deal with this boring game anymore. I just want to break out of this stuffy studio where everything feels like it’s on some weird script. It’s driving me crazy! I’m so ready to get outside and see what the real world is like—breathe real air, you know? I want to hang out at a real mall, surrounded by actual people, not just actors pretending. I want to feel real grass under my feet, touch something that isn’t fake. I’m so tired of this endless show, Evelyn. Is it too much to ask to know what life is like without cameras always watching? Is it wrong to want to experience true freedom and all the crazy, unpredictable stuff out there? I can’t keep pretending this is okay. I need more! Can’t you see that?" 

Evelyn stood there, listening to Tyler's ranting about wanting to leave for what seemed like the millionth time. "Seriously? You think you’re the only one stuck here? Everyone feels trapped sometimes. This is how it is—this is what we signed up for. You can't just bail because it’s getting boring. What do you expect, a fairy tale? The real world is messy and complicated, and you’d miss this once it’s gone. You think walking in a mall is gonna solve everything? Newsflash: it won’t. You’re just chasing a fantasy, and it’s honestly exhausting to hear you whine about it. We all want more, but this is our reality right now. Just deal with it, okay?" Tyler snapped back. "No, Eve, I'm sick of it. You're the only one who wants to stay here. The only one who wants to continue this stupid "stardom". I don't care how many stars the boss gets, I'm sick of being his pawn. Sick and tired of it, Eve. And I'm sure L!1L|4n is too. She just won't say anything because she's scared of your reaction."

Evelyn's eye twitched at that. How dare she use L!1L|4n's name like that, like she actually cared. She watched as Tyler walked off, too exhausted to argue back with the stubborn girl. Evelyn had more important things to worry about, such as finding out how to get the lead role in the next production they were making. She'd get over it soon enough. And if she didn't, well… 

She had some tricks up her sleeve. 

Reading it again, I couldn't help but get this weird sense of deja vu, like I knew what this argument was about. Of course, I had no idea who Evelyn was, or what that other name is, but I saw my name perfectly clear. Did someone make this up? Or was this another memory that seemed to vanish completely from my mind? It seemed like a lot of my old memories were doing that. Just appearing in my brain, then vanishing as soon as I try to get a grip on them. Starting to wonder what the point is, you know? I mean, why even try to remember if they're just gonna disappear? Still, I can't help but wonder about that script/story thing. The logo looks familiar too. I'm sure as soon as I try to remember, the memory of where it belongs is gonna disappear. Vanish.

so, got to thinking about whether or not revolvers are Actually as simple as people think they are, right. so, i just looked up the parts list of a couple random autoloaders vs a couple random revolvers, and here's what i found:

the S&W M29 seems to have 86 parts in total. the walther PPK has roughly 46 parts in total. the M1911 has roughly 48 parts in total, the ruger LCR has roughly 53 parts in total. comparing an old and big revolver to a small and new one, did in fact show a significant reduction in parts, therefore making the LCR a significantly less complex and therefore a theoretically more robust and reliable firearm. meanwhile, the 1911 still has notably less parts than the LCR, and a hell of a lot less than the M29. the PPK has slightly fewer. the trend seems to be with my suspicion that on average, autoloaders tend to be a bit less complex. let's add more data, shall we?

for something more modern, the glock 17 has 35 parts. the hi-point has 24 parts total. the makarov has 27 parts. the ruger mark iv has 71 parts. the beretta 92 has 62 parts. the HK MK23 has 62 parts in total. the HK4 has 45 parts in total. the CZ-75 has 64 parts in total. the colt python has 56 parts in total. the single action army has 47 parts in total. my bones have 5 parts in total. the S&W model 15 has 87 parts in total, as does the S&W model 19 and the 686. the ruger GP100 has 72 parts in total. the taurus 941 has 40 parts in total. the taurus 66 has 42.

now, this feels very messy to me, so i'm gonna do some cold hard math to figure this out. now, if i'm doing my math right (every part added together divided by how many guns there are, so 484 total parts divided by 10 autoloaders in total), this should come out to 48.4 parts on average. meanwhile, doing the same math comes to an average of 65.7 for the revolvers. so we see, that on average, yes, an autoloading pistol will be less complicated than a revolver.

to do a bit of editorializing, however, here's my personal conclusions: while i do think that in theory, a less complex machine will lead to higher standards of reliability, i also think that what matters more is the standards to which it's built. the HK mk23 had 62 total parts, which is about as many as the average revolver did. as did the beretta 92, and the CZ-75 only had 2 more. in all candor, i deeply feel as though the HK Mk23 is probably the most reliable handgun ever made, if not the most reliable gun ever made. and while the CZ-75 and the beretta 92 don't share that same distinction in my eyes, they're both exceptionally durable and reliable firearms in their own right, and i'd argue they're both about as reliable as a glock; which has significantly less parts and is well renowned by most for being a fairly reliable handgun. in regards to the revolvers, going off of anecdotal evidence i've noticed that while revolvers don't have reliability problems due to ammunition, when they do have some other manner of reliability problem, it tends to be more severe than with an autoloader. with an autoloader, you can generally rack the slide a couple of times and you'll be in the clear. with a revolver, your best bet is probably gonna be pulling the trigger again, which may very well lead to an exploded gun depending on the manner of malfunction you've had. in other words, an autoloader malfunctioning is like if you accidentally stepped on your dog's tail, a revolver malfunctioning tends to be more like if you fell down the stairs directly on your dog and now they have to go to the vet.

now, i do think that revolvers have a very good capacity to be reliable and durable. if i had to pick a handgun to rival the HK Mk23 in those regards, it'd undoubtedly be the Mr73. but i also don't believe revolvers to be more reliable than autoloaders unilaterally. i think it much more matters in regards to the quality of the gun's manufacture and its design, and how well you maintain it. that being said, i also believe it's much cheaper to make a simple thing reliable than it is to make a complex thing. which is why the hi-point and the makarov are both fairly reliable and deeply inexpensive, if less pleasant to shoot than most better made guns.

First off, this bill will ban the use of hardware such as modems, routers, home cameras, etc, and virtual tech such as VPNs, if they are manufactured by or used to contact and deal with "foreign adversaries."

Note that, while a summative list of "foreign adversaries" is given in the bill, it is subject to change at any time without warning.

This bill will make the use of VPNs to bypass bans on apps/content such as TikTok a criminal act, punishable by minimum imprisonment of 20 years and a minimum fine of $250,000 or $1,000,000 depending on if you knowingly did so for the explicit purpose of accessing banned content

The bill gives the federal government the power to access and monitor any activity from suspected devices, virtual or otherwise, without telling anyone. This essentially gives them the power to spy on you without your knowledge or consent, monitoring you at all times.

This includes routers, modems, online videogames, streaming apps, social media, ring cameras and other home camera systems, smart thermostats, literally anything that makes use of the internet

The method by which this will be done is by the President appointing a Secretary of Communication, who forms their own independent group without any votes or democratic selection, and that group can then make decisions behind closed doors without disclosing anything whatsoever

Decisions banning whatever they deem to be inappropriate or threatening content, or otherwise deemed a threat to national security. At any time. Without disclosure or voter input. And remember, accessing said content would be a crime under this bill.

If this passes, they can go through your text messages, your emails, your Snapchat, your Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and private messages on any other social media, anything that uses the internet, and they can censor it and prosecute anyone who disobeys these restrictions

In summation, this bill effectively bans anything at all the government deems inappropriate for whatever reason, very fast, without warning, and without voter input, and further allows the government to spy on you directly through anything that makes use of the internet, 24/7.

It is, without exaggeration, one of the most horrid and genuine threats to freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, and the overall rights and freedoms of Americans everywhere. Especially the right to privacy.

Everyone should be thoroughly invested in shooting this bill down, as it could result in the breaking up of mass communication methods, the targeted suppression of minority groups, the immediate quashing of dissent in any form wherever it may be, and a true totalitarian state.

It is the biggest step towards the worst case scenario. Please, if you have the time, contact your representatives, make it clear you do NOT support this bill, and that if they vote for it you will support their opponents in the next primary. Call them, email them, whatever works

And spread this information around, in whatever way you see fit. It is imperative that that bill does not get passed, and I'm sure we can all see why. Yet I haven't seen anyone talking about it as of yet, despite how extremely concerning it is.

A lightly edited rant on parts of Ryōgo Narita's postscript from Can't Fear Your Own World vol. III:

When Matsubara and I met Kubo directly in order to prepare for the novels, we asked him rapid-fire questions about the mysteries remaining in BLEACH’s world: “What about that?! What happened in that part?!” “What about that character’s past?!” When we heard Kubo’s responses, I was blown away by his many charming creations. “Wh-why didn’t you include the past of the Reio and the aristocrats and the underside of the world in the original story?!” When I asked him that, he gave me a clear answer that I couldn’t disagree with: “This is a story about Ichigo and the Soul Reapers’ battle, so I didn’t want to muddy the story’s focus by taking it away from that.” Regardless of the past, Ichigo and the other Soul Reapers were fighting in order to stay true to their souls. If the story’s focus were shifted away from that, then it would no longer be a part of BLEACH’s original narrative. However, though he had purposefully not written it as part of the original story, when I heard about the many incredibly fascinating backstories he had, I automatically asked him, “In that case, may I divulge those things you’ve established as part of my novelization?” I was sure that would cause him to angrily respond, “Did you even hear what I said?” However, rather than being angry, Kubo was kind enough to give me even more intricate details about what he had created and gave me a lot of advice about a new character that would need to be created. Then, as a result of the conversation about which character, who wasn’t Ichigo and who would preferably be part of the Soul Reapers themselves, could fight against that malicious head of the Four Great Noble Clans, we chose Shuhei Hisagi as the main character.

I want to focus on the bolded sections in reverse order. For the second:

screw off! literally the entire novel, okay, the two people constantly on Tokinada's ass are Shunsui and Yoruichi. Yoruichi as a Great Noble who despises Tokinada as a piece of shit and actually fights him twice, and Shunsui as a Noble who hates the nobility. Shuuhei DOESN'T EVEN FIGHT Tokinada! he fights Hikone! he barely interacts with Tokinada! but you wanna blow smoke up our asses in the author's notes at the end about how he fights against him when we have literally just seen that is not true. bullshit. he comes in at the last minute as a deus ex machina so Kenpachi doesn't chop Hikone in half. screw you. it was literally a Yoruichi and Shunsui novel that you then turned into the Shinji and Shuuhei Bankai Extravaganza which doesn't even matter now because Shinji's Bankai is in the anime and I'll bet SP shows Shuuhei's Bankai training. you claim that it revealed the truth of all this lore, but actually it revealed pretty much jack shit. okay, let me explain that last statement. suppose we are talking about the Ukraine War, okay? and I tell you it's the last battle of the Eastern and Western Roman Empire for supremacy. you go, "huh?" and I tell you about Romulus and Remus and the Trojan War, and then I don't tell you anything else. wouldn't you still be going "huh?" that's what they did!

The last thing I expected to be doing with my night is writing angry emails to my congressionals about The Restrict Act (S.686) that has been proposed in the US, that would potentially ban what would essentially be every app I can access, or give the government access to spy on me and access ALL of my information including anything I purchase online under the guise of "protecting my information from being stolen and being sold to a foreign company".

Excuse me, but I've been a victim of identity theft twice, by family no less and this "bill" is an utter joke being back by a congressuinal from my state that I voted for no less, which makes me sick and pissed. I've been trying to not think about it because life is scary as it is, and living life as it is is scary as it is is and the government is run by people who should be in an old folks home who don't know how wifi works from what I saw from the tiktok hearing. Almost every single one of them were rude, could not address the tiktok rep correctly, and wouldn't even let him answer any questuons fully. A joke, it was a fully on joke of a hearing. The last thing I need to do is have a full on mental break down and existential crisis while at work because the world is falling apart and the US becomes more of a dystopia day by day, hour by hour and second by second as I breathe.

It is sad that not a single Democratic rep in the hearings have opposed this bill and are backing it because Meta is lining their pockets with the stocks they've bought, which is not shocking in corporate America but it makes me sick. It makes me infuriated that not a single person can just enjoy their creature comforts without having their privacy violated or without some kind of government gimmic being hidden up someone's sleeve with mal intent. It's disgusting. Apps being threatened, schoot shootings and people dying, books being banned, Healthcare being limited in so many ways for so many individuals, laws being taken back to the 1920's what kind of fucking hellscape is this and how many more people have to suffer before someone says enough?

It's the rare time I rant about politics, but it's so exhausting. I'm so exhausted of seeing so many people cry, scream, and also be exhausted of no one listening or willing to do a damn thing to fix the issues. Just let people live happy lives without fear of being gunned down or without fear of not having proper healthcare and the creature comforts they desire with who they love as they wish to identify. How the hell is that so wrong in 2023?

#when was the last time i felt this awful ...... bleach 686 back in 2016? god

to explain the #meldalore to my new followers ... Bleach used to be my favorite manga + anime of all time. I started watching/reading it when i was around 8 years old in 2007. it was my everything you know... first ever manga volume I (aka my mom) ever bought... something I dedicated ~10 years of my life to... something I loved beyond reason.... and then the manga ending in 2016 happened. for anyone that wasn't there back then... it was so fucking bad . like I can't even explain how fucking bad it was. my mental breakdown over Bleach chapter 686 is forever immortalized on this blog btw you can check my bleach ending or anti bleach or bleach 686 tags (don't read my tags though bc holy shit the copium I was on back then... I feel so sorry for myself) ... anyways that ending was so fucked up and a slap to the face to all of us ancient Bleach fans and something that still haunts me 7 years later so much so that I still am not over it and refuse to watch the newest seasons... but back then after that ending... that final chapter ............ that shit literally turned me from an anime blog straight into a kpop blog LMAO I literally quit anime/manga blogging bc Bleach 686 traumatized me so bad. I once wrote a real heartfelt rant that truly came from the bottom of my heart explaining what Bleach meant to me but I can't find that post anymore since I think I left it untagged (cuz that shit is embarrassing LOL) but what I guess I mean to say is that ... HitsuKarin Ideas...

So according to the JET interview, when asked if Isshin ever reunited with Hitsugaya & Matsumoto after their past was revealed, Kubo basically said it wasn’t time for them yet. He mentions he had been asked by the anime staff if they could include it as a side story in the anime or something like that (during the Fullbring arc, it seems), but he had been against the idea.

I found this tidbit of information interesting... Putting aside what he said about them having recognized each other at the end of the Fullbring arc but not bringing it up with each other (since it doesn’t make sense - how could Hitsugaya, Matsumoto, & Isshin just disregard each other like that after about 20 yrs or something with no contact?! When they seemed so close in the past?), as well as this being yet another unresolved issue in the manga, I started getting ideas...

Since their past in the manga had been revealed later in the EBTR arc, he must’ve thought it was too soon to show it in the anime...but those scenes don’t necessarily correlate with what was going on between Isshin & Masaki, so it’s not like they couldn’t have been added as a side story, including an encounter, in the FB arc, right? The reason for Isshin leaving SS would’ve been left unknown until later, so it’s not like their encounter would’ve been a spoiler to those who don’t read the manga... So why so adamant?

Basically, my HitsuKarin senses activated... I know this sounds crazy, but what if Kubo had been planning to have them meet again sometime after Hitsugaya started spending time with Karin, in the future scenario where she is becoming/becomes a Soul Reaper? There were hints about her, so much potential.

Like...this sounds crazier but... If all had gone well with the final arc of Bleach & we’d gotten a proper IchiRuki-implied ending or something of the sort...as well as even hinting at Karin getting a sequel spin-off, Hitsugaya being the 2nd protagonist alongside her (and he’s like the most popular character of the series in Japan, why not)... I mean- It sounds like something interesting...

There are obviously fanfics with this theme, & I love it, but if it were to be true...oh, boy *rubs hands together*. So much potential with these characters... I list here several of their similarities & stuff, but imagine if something like this came to be...

On a side note, considering that supposedly Kubo had originally meant to end Bleach after the defeat of Aizen, with the farewell IchiRuki scene... Was their story really supposed to end there? Or “Bleach” was, but what if Kubo wanted to have them reunite later...in the sequel future with Karin’s story? Ichigo would regain his powers too (the whole point of the FB arc was to show he was unhappy living as a normal human & missing Rukia)... Is this too far-fetched?!

But I guess we might never know. Either way, I got these ideas for a while & had to rant.

Listen, I disliked the Bleach ending so much I basically abandoned the fandom. I did a little discourse on the ending, reblogged a few rants and a few final fics and art I found compelling, and kinda tried to forget Bleach existed

But even so, every once in a while, even now, someone likes or reblogs one of my old Bleach posts and I YEARN. I yearn for those old days of Bankai and Ichigo being dead serious about using his power to save everyone he could and Rukia finally, finally getting the power she always deserved, of Shunsui making plans to bring Ichigo to Soul Society to reform it for good, of Ishida stepping out from his fathers’ shadow and the tragedies of his past, of replacing the Soul King with something better, an afterlife that humans deserved.

Then I remember Chapter 686 and weep a bit.

But I still go back and browse some of the tag, focus on some of the characters and ships who werent hit too hard by the discourse beam, think fondly back on a fandom that, despite the bad end, gave me a few good years.

Ichigo still should have reformed Soul Society. And Kurotsuchi should have been drummed out of the Shinigami for his crimes. Like. At the VERY LEAST. What is this restore the status quo and leave Ichigo in the real world BS?

Anyway, the point is, In my browsing this time, I stumbled upon a surprisingly prolific ship for Rukia and Sode no Shirayuki and I would just like to note that those shippers’ brains are huge and they are braver than the troops. Soderuki 5ever.

Moving in together with Drew was one of the best decisions of your life. Endless cuddles and kisses, waking up together, cooking meals for each other. Honestly, a dream come true.

One of the things that Drew started after you had moved in with him was leaving you little post-it notes around the apartment.

There was something different written on them every time you found one. Mostly compliments or a simple reminder that he loved you. 

And those notes made your heart swell with love. This man really was the man of your dreams. 

The first time Drew had left you a note was after he came home one night, finding you crying in the bedroom. You had had an awful day at work and you were so frustrated. 

The moment he realized, stepping into the bedroom, that you were crying, he rushed over to you.

“What happened? Are you okay?” worry evident in his voice.

“It’s nothing. Can you just come cuddle with me?” you sniffled, trying to wipe away the tears but more just kept coming.

He climbed onto the bed and wrapped his arms around you, laying back and resting his head against the headboard.

“It’s not nothing, Y/N. Please talk to me.”

“I just had an awful day at work, that’s all,” you mumbled, hiding your face in the crook of his neck.

“Want to tell me about it? I promise you’ll feel better if you get it all off your chest.”

So you told him everything that had happened. You told him about the coworker who kept asking questions about your relationship with Drew and how your boss treated you like a slave, giving you much more work than to others, making you get him coffee after every few hours, and clean his office.

Drew listened to your rant, not interrupting you once. He wanted to punch your boss in the face so hard that you wouldn’t even recognize him anymore.

He hated seeing you like this. It hurt him even.

“I don’t know what to do, Drew.”

“I think you should quit.”

“Really?”

“Yes. He treats you like shit. And you don’t deserve it at all. I’ll help you find a new job. Don’t even worry, darling.”

“You know I love you, right? You’re literally sent from heaven, I know it.”

He chuckled and then kissed the top of your head. “I know, and I love you too.”

The next morning you woke up to an empty bed, which meant that Drew had already left for work. You sighed, getting out of bed and making your way to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

That’s when you found a post-it note stuck to the mirror.

“You deserve better. I love you.” Was what was scribbled onto the small piece of paper.

After that night, more and more notes started appearing. Each time you found one you almost started crying. God, you loved this man more than yourself. You had never met anyone more sweet and caring than him.

You started hanging the notes onto the wall on your side of the bedroom. Each note was different than the other.

There were many like: “ I adore you”, “I care about every single thing you tell me about”, “You’re the only person I’ve ever loved this much” and “You’re my soulmate.”

Also many many like this “You’re so beautiful, don’t forget that”, “I can’t believe the most gorgeous woman in the world is mine” etc.

But there were also some like this: “Your ass looks great in those leggings”, “You look so hot”. Once there was one that said “I’m gonna rail you when I get home.” That one made you laugh. He stuck to his promise tho.

“I appreciate the notes, Drew. I really do. They remind me exactly why I fell for you in the first place.”

“Well, I’m glad you like them.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, babe.”

“I love you, so much.”

“I love me too. I’m such a great boyfriend, aren’t I?” You laughed, slapping his chest. It made him chuckle. “I love you too.”
