1) i made the chili. it was good. we got that oaxaca cheese and put that in it and it was tasty
2) i got rid of my nonstick pan and have been using a cast iron pan instead. but ive been scared of making omelettes cause it sounded like a nightmare, since even though i know how to make them in nonstick i still fuck up sometimes. but i wanted a chili omelette. turns out that shit is easier in the cast iron than the nonstick, like way easier, it was a dream. delicious
3) i was hoping my brother would be buying an OLED steam deck and would give me his old 64gig one. turns out no, but he's promised it to me if they ever make a steam deck 2....... honestly might be better off waiting til im a little more financially free and getting either the 256 or a used one. idk i just wanna play ps2 games and voices of the void while sitting on the couch or in bed ):
4) my brother has officially been woken up in the middle of the night by biting by both of my cats now

Building a pc from scratch is basically lego for grownups, but with more swearing and higher stakes.
I built a system from scratch years and years ago, like, mid-oughts? Ish? And it hasn't actually changed all that much despite the end result being staggeringly exponentially faster.
I watched a lot of videos in preparation, hyperfixating on the process for about a month before picking and ordering the parts. Prices are/have been coming down drastically from the pandemic/crypto gpu shortages, and there are some fancy new games out that I want to play.
Because I'd done all that work, when I found out my kid's partner needed to upgrade, I shopped her parts too. To upgrade a system that already has an operating system, SSD, case and plenty of cooling is about a grand, for an Intel I5-12600k (10 core, I think?), a DDR4 motherboard (Z790 IIRC? Maybe B?), a fancy RGB cooler, and 32 gigs of fancy light up RAM. Would have been cheaper without RGB but she wanted it and could afford it.
For a complete system with OS, new monitor, 3T storage, 64gigs of memory and a $400-ish video card, about 2 grand. That's with the i513600kf (14 cores). I think for me it was a RX 6800 graphics card and for her it was a 6750 xt. Either will be very playable for the games we both like.
I won't say the process is easy. But it's very methodical and there are SO many really good engaging videos explaining how to do it.
I was kind of fixated early on on the idea of needing better than an i5 because my current computer is an i7 and Intel's naming system is a bit arcane. But that's not actually how it works. They've been doing generations for years of the i5, i7 and i9 processors, and which generation is more critical than the 5, 7 or 9. 12th and 13th gen processors are going to be much faster than my 6th gen i7 on my laptop, which has four cores. The i5 13600 has 6 process cores and 8 efficiency cores, and fuck if I know what the difference is but the fact of the matter is that few games are going to use more than that and I'm not doing anything fancy enough to need more process cores, and the clock speed is Very Nice. The 12600 has just as many process cores and fewer efficiency cores, but it's also like, just over half the price. If you pick correctly on Newegg you get a couple games with either processor, and if you get the right AMD gpu, you can get starfield with the gpu. Anyway. The markup for having someone else build a PC these days is very steep. There are a lot of corners getting cut. This is not a process for everyone but it really is rewarding.

Hey Rob I have a little question, I'm thinking of finally modding my vita, and I was wondering if you had any general tips or precautions I should keep in mind whilst doing so.
Also while I'm at it I guess I'll ask if you have a particular guide that you yourself used when modding your own vita
I actually had a lot of trouble with mine 😞 I still don't have psp games on there. It's pretty straight forward though, you just need your vita, a computer, and a cable to connect it, nothing else. I think the only major tip is to buy an SD to memory card converter (($10~) have to hack to use it) even if you have a real memory card. Vita games are rarely over 2 gigs so you could get a lot of mileage if you get a bigger SD card then the max 64gigs
I used video guides and the guy I watched updated his videos so I think it's actually gotten easier. You are going to have to look up different guides if you want ps/ps2/psp games though. I don't recommend brothering with Nintendo games because they all nearly run like garbage on the vita. It's impressive the vita can run nearly 3 decades of sony games

Cities Skylines is unbearable. It needs 64gigs of ram, boring and even unplayable without mods, mods break with every update to a point where mod makers just give up and remake the whole mod, which makes you go through them by hand figuring out which are broken\abandoned so u can unsub and sub to the replacement... The game is more job than fun, I hope they’ve learned smth and all the most important mod functions will be included in CS2

You can get micro SD cards that have a shitton of extra space. A lot of Not!Samsung/Apple phones will happily support them too. I have a 64gig SD card in my phone, and all of my music. As long as I have battery power, I have tunes. They're not very expensive either. I think mine was $20 a few years ago.
smartphone storage plateauing in favor of just storing everything in the cloud is such dogshit. i should be able to have like a fucking terabyte of data on my phone at this point. i hate the fucking cloud

hello, hi!! i really love your style and i absolutely adore everything about -all- of your ocs-- but i come with a question!! i apologise if you've been asked this before but what do you use to draw? both hardware and software! i'm using an older wacom myself but i've been really tempted to consider something with a screen because i started drawing on paper and it still feels more intuitive that way, hence the curiosity :P
aaa thank you!!!!! i use clip studio pro on the ipad pro with an apple pencil!!
i really REALLY recommend clip studio cuz it has a whole BUNCH of resources, stuff included as well as textures/brushes/3d models other people have made (for free) that you can download!!! clip studio itself isnt free, i think its like ~25$ a year if i remember correctly?? (unfortunately you do have to pay yearly but for ~$2 a month its worth it imo!!) i like it a lot better than procreate!!
i used to use a wacom tablet as well that served me good for a lot of fears, and i eventually switched to the ipad for the same reason, that i wanted a screen-drawing tablet!!! the ipad is super good!! you’d think because its not created specifically for art that it would be kinda laggy or something but NOPE!! csp works like a charm!!! plus it (obviously) doubles an ipad, so you can use it for a bunch of other stuff in addition to drawing!!!!!
(another reason i got the ipad is that one summer i just drew a lot, and i sat at my desk for a lot of the time which i hated since i could be sitting in the yard or something. i thought about getting a wacom screen tablet but to my understanding, it needs to be....plugged into a computer?? or bluetoothed to a computer or something?? and i saw a lot of people using an ipad to draw and it was a really good purchase!!!)  (and i can also play genshin on my ipad which runs soo so smoothly and in HD..,,.the only issue with genshin is the amount of space it takes up so im thinking of buying an ipad with bigger storage after i graduate)
anyway thats basically my setup!!! one of the other perks is how the apple pencil snaps to the side of the ipad to charge, and the battery lasts a REALLY long time so i never find myself with a dead pencil

alright-alright, i just came back after panicking for a whole bunch. thankfully my data on my 3ds chip wasn't as doomed as i thought it was... i copy-pasted the whole thing on my laptop at some point. how anti climactic.
Tumblr media
but man, we're so back.
thanks for telling me that 64gigs wasnt out of the option btw, because turns out the 3ds not reading over 32gb format natively+me not knowing i was supposed to format those kinds of things was kinda the whole reason i went through this whole mess
i think i'm going to die. i fucked up my 3ds sd card formating.

i think i’ve managed to narrow down the best options for me to be either the samsung galaxy s4 (~$415 lightly used) or ipad pro 11″ 3rd gen (~$600 lightly used, plus ~$90 stylus)... hm.
cons of samsung: never used android before, screen is half an inch smaller, i’ve heard touch sensitivity when drawing/notetaking is not quite as good as ipad pro which is the sort of thing that COULD really annoy me. pros: Cheap, maybe android is better??
pros of ipad: it’s supposed to be like the best at everything. cons: Expensive

thoughts on the steam deck?
It looks like a really big Game Gear
Tumblr media
Also the wings on it look huge idk if I could hold it and still use the joysticks. And it's got a dock to connect it to a tv but it's A. Sold separately and B. They won't even reveal the price of it.
I mean it's interesting and if it works then cool but I can already see a lot of potential issues like the cheapest model is 400 bucks and it's only 64gig and it's not even running on an SSD so I worry load times would be astronomical. It's got a micro SD slot but I worry about load times there too.
Also I don't think a lot of steam games will be compatible with it at launch just because a lot of steam games (especially ports) need to be modded just to get them running and I doubt this will allow file modding at all.
So like idk I'll have to see what it's like at launch.
