recapping the last few days because I forgot to post on the 4th...

finished notes for week 2 over the weekend, but didn't get anything else done. That means I'm two weeks behind on doing practice questions, but I'm not too bothered about that since I already have some example questions in my notes.

monday: did some planning this week (looking over the syllabus), and completed the weekly quiz for electromagnetism.

tueday: worked for the first time in a while. didn't pick up and shifts in the last two weeks so I could get settled into this semester.

wednesday: my shins are killing me from wearing heels for the first time in a while, and had a migraine all day, so I didn't get anything done :/

Today (thursday) I want to do a massive study session, since I really need to catch up to make up for the last few days. I probs won't get any studying done tomorrow evening or saturday since I'm working, so I need to utilise the free time that I have!

I worked on an analysis assignment my English prof gave us. It acted as both an assignment and also a revision of half the syllabus since technically we had to review the chapters in order to do the assignment. I like English assignments, they're always so interesting :D

Here's my review on Metaphor: Refantazio after being 5h in and not quite done with the demo:

First let me say if you're on the fence about getting this game or not, try the demo. It's available on Steam, PS, and Xbox. It's free. It's ~5h, more or less depending on how much you want to play around with it. The save data can carry over if you decide to buy the game. See if it's fun for you. I talk about performance and graphics on my PC, but see how it works on your system too.

And with that, on to my review.

Graphics & Performance:

I saw a lot of Steam reviews saying they were having a lot of performance issues with the game, even on high-end computers. I didn't really experience anything like that. There was one scene really early in the demo, like an intro narrator bit where it was panning over a map and for some reason that did have some dropped frames and stuttering, but it was only for those 5 seconds and I haven't had a repeat since. I did max the graphics settings and uncap the frames and still had no issues.

I should also say, I don't have a super high-end computer. However, my computer is still pretty nice so maybe on much lower end PCs there would be some issues. I tried min settings as well and honestly didn't see too much of a difference in quality. If you did need to run it in lower graphics, it would still look fantastic.

And it DOES look fantastic. I've noticed there is a lot of different art styles going on. There are animated cutscenes just like in persona where you kind of just watch an anime. There are gameplay cutscenes, where you are watching the 3D characters models in their scene. I noticed the surroundings take on the same level and detail as the characters in these scenes. Then you have the gameplay graphics, which have an almost stylized sort of living painting feel to them.

You'd think having that many styles going on would be chaotic and immersion ruining but honestly it's kind of seamless.

Gameplay:

As is typical of an Atlus game, I'm only just barely getting out of the tutorial, even being 5 hours in. Now that I'm kind of getting into the flow of combat, I genuinely really like it. I wasn't sure how I was going to like a combat system so different from their current IPs (what do you mean there is no demons??) But overall I think they've managed to keep the spirit of their games alive and well while still trying something new for them. I also love that they stuck with the P5R system of being able to kill enemies lower than you without having to go through the whole turn based process, but also made it slightly more involved. They're really leaned into the hybrid action/turn-based gameplay and it's very satisfying.

Archetypes hold the spirit of personas or demons in that you can level them up and build them to suit your characters, but they come with the advantage of your entire party getting to mix and match. Also like personas, you strengthen and enhance them more through social bonds. Thus far in the demo I've gotten as far as unlocking them so I'm not really sure how ranking them plays out quite yet.

By far my favorite part of the game play right now is that if your protagonist dies, it's NOT game over. In fact as long as you have 1 party member standing, the show will go on. Also at the end of the fight your dead characters will revive (with 1hp) and still gain all the xp from the fight.

Some really cool bits that I personally think make the game more fun and challenging: there are many different status effects, but they are divided into 2 categories, physical and mental. Mental status effects expire after the battle, but physical status effects persist. It's a cool little blend of old JRPG punishment with new age JRPG simplicity. (Ask me how I feel about it later when I'm suffering.) Also turn icons, like in SMT, are back. They work relatively the same, which I've always found to be fun, but does make the game a little more challenging. And finally, there is auto-battling if you want to engage it. It will repeat the actions you used prior to engaging it, so if you have a flow going, it does make that kind if easier.

My complaints so far are: for the first few battle areas, your party members are on auto. It's not really fun, and frankly their AI is bad. It's not a long time, but it's more than I liked to see. Also enemies can spawn in right in front of, next to, or behind you where they were not before. This makes it harder (impossible if youre me) to avoid getting ambushed, and honestly feels counterintuitive for a game that's primary gameplay design is strategicly deciding when to attack and when to engage in turn-based combat.

Story:

I am 5 hours in, which in the terms of Atlus games is like, .5%. So I can't really tell you a ton about the story yet. I can say it's interesting. The whole concept is something so fresh for Atlus, and I am eager to know more about the story, the world, the different races, the humans, everything. They have built a solid foundation I absolutely want to see the completion of.

And the characters? I would die for them. Atlus has proven they can write characters with strong bonds and beautiful friendships that will make me go absolutely feral and I can already tell this is where these characters are going as well. I cannot wait. Plus the character designing in this game is above and beyond.

In conclusion, this game has so much potential and promise. I can already tell it's going to be an experience to play though (in a positive way). It's doing a lot that feels very new for Atlus, while remaining true to their current franchises and what makes them so good. I had my doubts about their releasing a brand new IP for their 35th anniversary, but honestly this is perfect. This game pays homage to what already makes their games so good while also showcasing a broad future.

Oh and the soundtrack is absolutely insane. It's Shoji Meguro so of course it's great but I'd be remiss not to mention it anyway.

also i started using obsidian today and it's...basically like OneNote?? the learning curve isn't even that huge. maybe the confusion starts when you try to zettelkasten and use plugins. i like it (zettelkasten) in theory, but i don't think it's for my already overwhelmed (and highly unorganized and scattered) brain struggling to understand the info for the first time on a tight schedule 😵‍💫

Lunar Return Dec 13

Been so busy, haven't kept up with my lunar returns. My October showed Mars in the 12H and I had to undergo a minor surgery last month so yeah, there's that. I doubt a repeat of 12H Mars for this month's cycle will bring about another surgery, but knowing me, it will most likely be disrupted sleep through violent dreams

Saturn in Pisces

Saturn in Pisces, what is this transit about?

Those two sound scary because you know Saturn as this big harsh God who does things traditionally and expects you to do the same OR ELSE. You also see Pisces and get scared because Pisces and mental health plus asdictins go together. Just hearing Saturn in Pisces may make you scared.

You've heard that Saturn serves "karma" and "punishes" so you better be careful dealing with Aquarius and Capricorn placements. Did you know, that Saturn also expects you to value yourself OR ELSE?

The Bible states that the Body is the Temple of God. Many other religions and spiritual practices state how sacred the body is. Your body, is also your ancestors Altar.

So it makes sense that Saturn will be ANGRY and put you in line real quick for not respecting yourself.

Saturn in Pisces is simply about discipline when it comes to your well-being.

This transit is from March 7th 2023 to May 24th 2025 where it retrogrades into Aquarius briefly, before coming back on August 31 2025 and staying there until February 13 2026.

Preoccupation with what people think or say about you makes you a prisoner. Are you afraid of being alone hence keeping them around? What's worse, being on your own by choice or being around people and feeling alone? Listen to The story of us by Taylor Swift. Two lyrics for this reading are: Now we are standing alone in a crowded room but we're not speaking. I've never felt silence quite this loud.

5H: Is your obsession with children or your hair bad for your wellbeing?

This sounds like pain. Being unable to get what you love. It's going to be very hard letting go for two years, but there is something you are meant to be blessed with out of letting go.

6H: Is your fixed mindset on how things should be done tanking your well-being?

Review your way of doing things because Pluto in Aquarius will be a very hard time otherwise.

7H: Are your relationships tanking your well-being?

This is not just about Romance, this is about all relationships in your life from family, friendships, community and workplace. This is also about your relationship with yourself. You don't have to keep every relationship, and sometimes the person in the mirror contributes to all the relationship problems they have. Listen to Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson.

8H: Is your sex life tanking your well-being?

Celibacy would do you very very good. Long celibacy, channel your energy elsewhere. Yes it's not easy to be celibate until 2025/2026, but it will help. This group sounds like a lot of pregnancy after celibacy, I hope you use this period of celibacy to be discerning about the relationships in your life because when Pluto goes into retrograde in Aquarius, that will be in your 7H and the message for the 7H applies to you. Choose your childs/children's parent very wisely. It would be best to be celibate until 2026. If you want to go for Valentine's rendezvous, I think that will be fun especially if you've done the work.

9H: Are your educational choices tanking your well-being?

You chose to study an academically challenging course and now it's challenging you academically. What would you like to do with this information? Choose, whether you stay or quit you can still thrive as long as you make modifications for your well-being.

10H: Is your career tanking your well-being?

You're doing whatever it takes in your career to realise your dreams but it's a whole mess for your well-being. Do you know it takes 10 years to treat burnout and burnout is VERY expensive to treat? Also, Pluto in Aquarius in your 9H will change your values, beliefs and understanding of things so don't be stubborn! Change!

11H: Is your network(especially online) tanking your well-being?

Watch do revenge and see how being in certain networks can tank well-being. Watch other movies about sororities and in groups. If you are a projector or have line 3 or 5 in your profile, you have absolutely no business inviting yourself into spaces you have not been invited to. Generally, you do not need to keep up with everything. You do not need to do something because others are doing it. Everyone has their own timeline, don't be pressured and don't pressure yourself.

12H: Are your spiritual and or religious values tanking your well-being?

In my country, there is a massacre called the Shakahola Massacre. A pastor convinced his followers to starve themselves to death and do other things that tanked their well-being. Religious values is not just about Church,Mosque,Temple or shrine. It's also about the people you follow and believe online, those coaches. Are they tanking your well-being?

If yes to any question I've asked, Saturn is going to be on your case and make things very hard for you until you change. If no, Saturn will sprinkle some motivation and encouragement to show you that you're on the right track.

L is scared of letting camren be public now because of all the denying through the years, right? Do you think people would hold it against her, though? For the public eye is quite obvious that she has shut down the possibility of camren in the past due to her own insecurities and fandom pressure when she was young (even though it has been happening all along…). I mean… The narrative already exists and its endearing.
