Splatoon 3 Fashion Challenge - Week 52: "So Long, Splatoon 1" Special!

In less than 48 hours, the WiiU servers will be shut down, taking the online component of Splatoon 1 with them. I never owned a WiiU, and so I didn't play the first game in the series, but it goes without saying that we all owe Splatoon 1 a lot, it was the little game that could, made by relatively young staff within Nintendo, releasing on what was widely considered a failed console, but nevertheless captured the hearts and minds of people across the globe with its inventive gameplay, fun aesthetic and music, and surprisingly involved lore.

It's the start of one of Nintendo's latest, greatest franchises, and it's very important to me. So it's only right we honor it with a fashion challenge!

Special Rules: It's all about that retro drip, because for this challenge you can only use gear that was in the original Splatoon! If it was added to the series in Splatoon 2 or 3 then it is off-limits. As always, Inkipedia is your best resources if you're not sure what you can or cannot use.

Rules:

Put together an outfit of any kind that you feel matches this week’s theme. Be sure to give it a name, as well!

Send it to me via ask or submission, please don’t add it to a reblog, that makes it very easy to miss! Also, please make it clear that it is a submission for the challenge and not just a regular submission.

Only one outfit per person! You can submit multiple photos of that single outfit, though.

Please include the gear you picked in the submission. It makes my life just a touch easier!  

The outfit should be submitted before Tuesday morning, as I will pick my favourite submissions to feature on Tuesday evening.

We are starting a club- for all of us writers who have WIP's that haven't been completed. It's a year-long challenge to write at least 250 words a week. If you do 250(a week) X 52 (weeks in a year) = 13,000 -that's an entire fic.

You have to write a minimum of 250 words a week -yes you can write more! If you did less than 250 words still reblog it's okay you wrote something and that's the most important thing.

Long time Tumblr lurker, first time trying one of these! Sooo - I was wondering the other day: how is Bruno‘s hair still so comparatively short after 10 years behind the walls? Either he cut it himself or...he got “help” - this was probably the first (and last time) ever Bruno let the rats cut his hair LOL-

This is how it probably went:

Bruno: “Hey, little guys - do you think you could possibly help me with my hair?”

Rat 1: “Squeak?”

Bruno: “My hair - you know” *takes a pair of scissors and a strand of hair and cuts it*

Rat 1: “Squeak!” (to Bruno) *turns around to the other rats*: “Squeak-squeak!” [Translation: “Bruno needs help with preening his fur!”]

Mirabel adding something to her dress/skirt (as requested anonymously - I hope this is how you imagined the drawing :)

I personally think that sewing is not only a nice hobby for Mirabel: Each family member’s gift is symbolized by their clothes - so it only seems natural that Mirabel would like to add some “meaning” to her clothes, too - in order to feel more like a part of the family...

I drew all of the characters separately bc I wasn’t sure how each one would turn out (I’ve never drawn any of them before, except for Bruno). Afterwards, I cut the drawings out and put them together like a collage and then I played around a bit with Photoshop and added a filter to make it look like an old photograph (I totally imagine them like this at the photographer’s ;) Hope you like it! :)

Writing Announcement - First Challenge

As you probably know, or if you didn't, now you do, I write fanfics. I have been writing for 10 years (yes, it has apparently been that long). I have been writing under Jackie Wepps for 10 full years as of this past May (I can't believe it).

But in all this time, I have never done a single challenge. The reason is mainly that the idea of doing it never seemed appealing. Besides, I didn't know where to go to participate. I have always been writing as a "free spirit" for the most part, only accepting few requests, which I have done poorly in fullfilling.

But then a friend sent me a link to a post because she thought I might find it fun. I wasn't planning on doing it, but then ideas began to sprout in my head, and now, here I am.

So here it is.

I'm participating in MaeIso week 2022!

I'm planning to post a total of 8 works, I have 2 for the first day. It's all going to come up on AO3. I'm planning some art for one of the stories, however, which will be posted here, because I still don't know how to put art in the stories on AO3.

The works are all written, I just need to edit them and they will be good to go. Oh, and I need to rethink the title for the last one. Good thing I still have some time left to do that.

I look forward to sharing it all with you. I hope you will enjoy reading my works as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

Jackie in Japan - Natural Disasters

In Japan, nature seems to be the ruler of things. There are vulcanos, earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons. In short, all four elements can come bother us whenever they want.

I shouldn't be in need of talking to you about vulcanos, and hopefully tsunamis will not be a conversation topic either. The only way is if I experience one. All else I can say can be found on the internet, much better explained than what I can do. I'll get to earthquakes eventually, no matter if I experience one or don't. However, the conversation topic for today is typhoons.

Typhoons are fairly common in Japan, especially in fall. They can apparently last anywhere between a few hours to a few days. They occur every year and are always taken seriously, no matter how big or small they may be.

Typhoon 11 is currently passing through Japan. Last week, it was going south, over Okinawa, but as one of my teachers said, it changed its mind and went north instead, to travel through Japan (Can't blame it. Japan is a nice country to travel through).

There has been talk about it since Friday last week. We were instructed to prepare to our best ability. We were to buy as much food and drink as possible, to last us for 3 days, in case it got really bad and we wouldn't be able to be selfsufficient for a time. I admit, I wasn't very good at that.

The typhoon was first predicted to take 2 days coming through, Monday and Tuesday this week. It was later predicted to last about a day, all Tuesday I think, and then just the night between Monday and Tuesday.

I woke up around 3 in the morning and heard the wind blow. I tell you, it was powerful, and a little scary, like thunder, but other than that, it just passed by. It had nearly died down completely by the time I got out of bed at 7:30. Nothing has changed outside, so it definitely wasn't bad this time. But maybe we won't be so lucky next time.

I want to know, what are your experiences with this? I'd love to read them.

WARNING! About Comments on AO3

To anyone who is lucky enough to not have noticed this yet, there is spam going on on AO3. I woke up to 15-16 comments, all from guest users containing a series of numbers and letters as well as a link. All of them have female names, Karen, Mary and stuff like that. I have asked someone I know to look into the link and he claims it is a "somewhat" innocent porn site (his words translated).

To be fair, I'm not sure I believe the other thing that has caused people to private their works for users only, so I originally opted to keep my works open, as I value anonymous responses to my works as much as those from registered users.

However, I will not be associated with things like what those comments link to. I have therefore, in light of these two events, decided that only AO3 users can read my works as of a few minutes ago. I will also be enabling comment moderation in the future as this will not happen again. I encourage you all to do the same.

Furthermore, I'm sure people do not need reminding in this day and age, but in case you do: do not touch a link unless you know where it goes or trust the person who sent it to you. Thanks to many experiences with things like this and many long talks with my parents in my teenage years, I know to be careful about this. If you are unsure of a link someone has sent you, please feel free to talk to me. I am no expert, but I believe I am getting really good at finding out what links to trust and what links not to trust. If I can't do it, I know an expert.

That is all. It pains me that it has to come to this, but as I said, I will not tolerate things like that in connection to my works. Thank you for your understanding.

Tbh, my entire being. I've been super pessimistic lately, and listing out my bad traits on a daily basis and questioning why the heck am I still alive and wanting to just not wake up.

I got this idea like 5 minutes ago and have been living in Saturday Night's Alright-land for so long, I'm letting myself choose joy.

7th-Year September 1st drabble below the cut.

James hastily waved off his parents with all the sincerity he could muster before he and Sirius started weaving their way through the start-of-term crowd on Platform 9 3/4 for the last time. To Fleamont and Euphemia, this was a momentous turning point, deserving some sort of emotional farewell or well-wishing, but to James it was simply an item on a checklist.

Arrive at platform: Check.

Still, he would've been more sympathetic to his parents' attentions had someone not delayed their arrival by oversleeping.

"Oi, slow down, Prongs. Christ!"

Sirius trailed behind him, navigating the crowds with more care than the other boy, who was charging through the crowd with a fervor that Sirius was all too familiar with by now.

James' eyes flitted rapidly from face to face as he made his way across the platform, searching for those brilliant eyes and the shock of red hair that he hadn't seen in much too long.

This summer had been one for the books, as far as James Potter was concerned, anyway. The freedom of being of-age with none of the responsibilities of school had meant a virtually unlimited choice of ways to entertain themselves this summer. Most evenings saw the soon-to-be 7th year Gryffindors—along with some other classmates—convalescing somewhere or other in Diagon Alley, finding little-known hidden gems of pubs or clubs, cooling themselves off with ice cream at Florean Fortescue's, or just causing general summertime mischief.

It was wonderful to feel so bonded with the others in their house going into their final year, and it had the added bonus of finally sparking that something between he and Lily Evans.

It was nothing serious—not yet. Just little stolen moments throughout the summer: a lingering glance across the table, inconspicuous hand-holding when they found themselves in the back of the group, the occasional goodnight kiss when one of them needed to side-along Apparate the other home. Little stolen moments that had been driving James mad these last few weeks Lily was visiting family and unable to join the end-of-summer hurrahs.

They had been writing each other, however, in her absence. She'd written him excitedly about her appointment as Head Girl, which was completely unsurprising to him as there was no better candidate (and he told her so). He had written back, nervously, and relayed how—incredibly—he'd been named Head Boy, only to be unexpectedly showered with congratulations and 'of course, it's unorthodox, but it makes sense'. They'd exchanged letters about the things they'd miss once Hogwarts was over, their lists of must-do's this year to fully glean the most out of their final year. They'd exchanged 'I miss you's and 'I wish you were here's and 'I can't wait to see you's.

Nearing the other side of the crowded platform, his eyes spotted that specific shade of red that had made this summer so superior to the others. His eyes zeroed in on Lily Evans, hair pulled back, Head Girl badge proudly displayed on her robes as she helped direct what he could only guess was a First Year into the train. His feet halted any forward-movement as his breath left his lungs.

'I can't wait to see you. I miss you.'

Locate Lily Evans: Check.

James moved forward with renewed vigor, her eyes finding his as the First Year loaded onto the train. A smile broke out on her face as he drew near, and gods how he wished he was able to get here earlier just so he could take in her expression that much sooner.

"Hey, you," she called lightly as he neared, looking up at him. "Big day for us, eh?"

Now face-to-face with her for the first time in weeks, after thinking only of her for the entirety of the time since she last left his sight, words escape him. Instead, he smiled down at her, at the anticipation in her eyes and felt sure in a way he hadn't felt with her in a long time, and bent down to capture her lips with his own, hand cupping her cheek.

She leaned into his touch instantly, responding to his kiss with an enthusiasm that caused James' pulse to pound in his ears, drowning out the sounds of the platform around them.

Kiss Lily Evans: Check.

James felt Lily's lips pull into another grin, and he took this as his cue to step back, breaking the kiss and grinning down at her, knowing that the excited glint in her eyes matched his own.

"Well, I meant leading the Prefects' meeting, but glad to know where your head's at," she quipped, unable to wipe the smile from her face.

James shrugged, hand flying to his hair with residual nerves. "Sorry, I was just...excited to see you."

Lily stepped forward, reaching up and pulling his hand down from his hair and lacing her fingers in his. Her eyes lingered on the sight of their entwined fingers as a blush painted her cheeks. "I'm excited to see you, too." Her eyes flickered back up to meet his, eyebrow quirking as she tugged him forward towards the train. "Well come on then. We have a meeting to run."

James followed her, gladly, as they loaded onto the train, feeling a little lighter in his step.

Be with Lily Evans: Check.

We are started a club- for all of us writers who have WIP's that haven't been completed. It's a year-long challenge to write at least 250 words a week. If you do 250(a week) X 52 (weeks in a year) = 13,000 -that's an entire fic.

You have to write a minimum of 250 words a week -yes you can write more! If you did less than 250 words still reblog it's okay you wrote something and that's the most important thing.

Idk if you're still big in the fandom, but I feel like its worth mentioning the RotG 10th anniversary is this year so maybe the fandom can plan something together? Finally got this finished for @rotg-hope-week : Snowdrop

In Flower Language, a Snowdrop has the following meaning: Purity, Hope Rebirth, Consolation or Sympathy.

I decided to play with the “rebirth” part, in relation to a certain part of the books with Jack and Nightlight and saw it as an excuse to play with painting in Clip Studio. It was a fun challenge and I’m happy with the final result.

Hope Week day 2: Chocolate eggs

Still working on Day 1, but for now, here’s for Day 2 of @rotg-hope-week

Bunnymund knew he was missing something. In the beginning, he had thought Jack had been messing with his eggs, or that North’s elves had been trying to start trouble. Maybe even Sandy had some cravings, but the Dream Weaver usually asked first.

And then he had found the hoof prints. Which had led him to the true culprit.

“So. What do ya have t’ say for yerself?” He fumed.

The Nightmare tried, and failed, to look properly innocent. The problem was that it had the evidence smeared all over it in the form of chocolate as well as pastel colors.

She was born at 7:52 PM, with meconium in her throat and unmoving limbs. The nurses whisked her away to vacuum her lungs and place her in an incubator that didn’t work. What a lovely way to start life. 

When she was a baby, she cried all night. She didn’t eat or sleep, and threw up everything she was offered. It was a miracle she made it to one. When she woke up and wouldn’t go back to sleep, her father would stand outside and rock her, looking up at the stars. It was the only way she would close her eyes and stop wailing. She loved stars. 

She still does. Every time she wants to disappear forever, she looks at the stars, and knows she is alone. And that is comforting. 

She was the child that always had the sniffles, missed birthday parties because of the stomach flu, and slept through half of kindergarten. Every time she would go to school, she would get sick by the end of the month. She was almost held back in fifth grade, because her attendance was terrible.

In sixth grade, her and her friends predicted the apocalypse. January 1, 2020, the world would end. And she looked forward to it. January 1 came and went, and nothing happened. She was disappointed, but she was sure the apocalypse was just delayed. February came, and nothing happened, except for Valentine's Day, which she hated. Then March. 

It was the last day of school before spring break. She made sure to hug all her friends. The weather was balmy with the sun dappling the ground. It was too warm for March and several of them made jokes about how it felt like the first day before summer. 

At first, an extra week of spring break sounded fun. Just because some virus was getting people sick, didn’t mean she and her sister couldn’t wreck more havoc. One week turned to three, three to six, and six to unknown.

She was tired of her sister, she was tired of her dad, she was tired of her mom, and she was tired of life. So she decided to do something about it. And that something was stupid. 

She got caught the first time, so she learned to hide it better. Her parents made an appointment with a therapist, and she didn’t want to go. She wrote out three escape plans, analyzing the risk, benefit, and challenges of each one. 

In the end, she decided to go.

His name was Paul, and he looked like a grandfather. He was soft and smelled like cologne, the kind of cologne that seemingly every man over 60 wears. She felt bad telling him why she was there, so she made up stories. 

Demons in the walls, seeing things that weren’t there, crying all the time. Everything had a kernel of truth, because that’s how the best lies are told. And she didn’t get better.

She got worse, and by December, she was still sick. Now her thighs hurt all the time, but she was better at hiding the pain, better at hiding the dumb things she did. And it felt good. Good to lie, good to hurt, good to be worthless. 

Everyone told her she wasn’t alone, and that was the problem. She wanted to be alone. Nobody would let her.

Then, her mom decided Paul wasn’t the right fit. She got sent to a lady, Maria. Maria was nice, a mother who didn’t worry too much about doctor-patient confidentiality, as long as she didn’t name names.

The girl liked Maria, and told less fabricated truths. Words that were true, but not the whole truth. 

She knew she was going to hell for lying so much, but she didn’t care. If anyone knew what she thought, she would be in hell anyway. 

Maria called another woman, Ramsey, to look at the girl. Ramsey diagnosed her with issues. Phobias and depressions, lack of one chemical, too much of another. It was almost funny how perfect it was; a sick brain for a sick body. 

She didn’t listen too hard, as she was busy reading the patient files that Ramsey had left open on the computer. 

Really, it was a stupid thing to do. Now she knew all about an autistic boy who tried to kill his mother, and a mousy girl who jumped at every sound. 

They put her on medication, but the medication made her worse. They pumped her chock full of serotonin, but that just made her want to hurt. Not herself, others.

The serotonin was a bad idea, so they gave her another medication, and upped the dosage to astronomical levels. They decided to treat her brain, even if it meant killing her liver. 

It’s 7:52 PM, over 15 years later, and she’s still just as sick as the day she was born. 

But when it gets too bad, she goes outside at night, just like her father taught. She goes outside, and stares straight up, till her neck hurts. 

She stands like that, glaring up at the pinpricks of stars, and knowing she’s all alone.

And that is comforting.

Okay, important announcement for the future of this blog!

I’m not going to be posting weekly prompts anymore, or at least for a long while. I have a couple of different things going on so I’d like to focus on those things a bit more, plus I’m going to be doing college classes in August, which is one more thing to do. Additionally, from what I’ve seen, no one has really been making anything for the prompts. I don’t blame anyone for this, as I understand not wanting to create for the prompts for any variety of reasons. However, it is very disheartening, and as such I’m not going to continue the weekly prompts. 

This doesn’t mean that this blog is going away, however! At the end of this post I will be adding all of the prompts I had written up, so anyone who wants to do them still can. I will also still reblog any posts that this blog is mentioned in, so long as it is relevant to the blog (This will include signal boosting). Additionally, I am considering using this blog for future challenges based on the topic of o!Sweaterduo! It’s unlikely to be soon, due to the reasons I’ve previously stated, but I will likely look into it again some time between late February and early March! I’ll use an interest check form to see what kinds of events people would be interested in, and it will hopefully be more organized than this one was.
