PUPPET MASTER II 1990 Horror/Fantasy #18 of 500 When a group of parapsychologists arrive at the Toulon family estate, The Bodega Bay Hotel, to investigate the unusual murder of Megan Gallagher, they find themselves face-to-face with Andre Toulon and his murderous marionettes. The second film sees a newly when I selected Andre Toulon resurrected by his puppets, which he then uses for nefarious and evil deeds, before they turn on him. Keeping with the suspense, minor gore, and low budget practical effects of the first film, the second movie and the franchise is just as entertaining as the first and introduces a few new puppets, “Torch” as well as “Mephisto“ and “Djinn the Homunculus“ in flashbacks. ☄️ ☄️ ☄️ ☄️ ☄️ Steven Wells - Andre Toulon Elizabeth Maclellan - Carolyn Bramwell Colin Bernsen - Michael Kenny Greg Webb – Patrick Bramwell Charlie Spaulding - Wanda Jeff Celentano – Lance Nita Talbot - Camille Sage Alan – Martha George ‘Buck’ Flower – Matthew Sean Vertigo – Billy Estimated budget – $780,000 #puppetmaster2 #torch #pinhead #blade #andretoulon @fullmoonfeatures #lowbudgetfilm #lowbudgetfilmmaking #podcast #podcasts #podcastersofinstagram #podcastsofinstagram #podcastlife #500filmchallenge (at Haverhill, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdMtK6SMZID/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

PUPPET MASTER 1989 Horror/Drama When A small group of differently talented psychics, gather in the wake of mutual friends apparent suicide at the Bodega Bay hotel, they find that their since passed friend may have been following in the footsteps of a master of puppetry who died in the very same way. The first film in a rather lengthy franchise, sees Toulon’s puppets as As a malicious tool at the disposal of a psychic hell bent on using Toulon‘s secrets as a means of resurrection and immortality. Showcasing what an independent Cinema company can do with a low budget and practical effects Full Moon Entertainment was one of just a handful of production companies cranking out higher quality low budget films in the 80s and 90s. Of their extensive catalog this was one of my favorite little creature features, having been one of the first films that I owned on VHS growing up. TRANSCENDENCE 2014 Sci-fi/Thriller #16 or 500 When a human rights extremist, who is completely against the advancement of artificial intelligence, uses a polonium laced bullet to shoot and eventually kill his target, The world‘s leading authority on AI, (played by Johnny Depp) his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and good friend Max (Paul Bettany) go to any length preserve his consciousness, using his controversial experiments to create sentient machines to do so. They soon find out this was a grave error in judgment. A cold, and unsettling tale of the dangers of artificial intelligence, and technology in general, this highly underrated film flew completely under the radar for me for a long while. I purchased it, put it on the shelf, and passed it over for other films time and time again. The action was decent, and Johnny Depp played cold and emotionless fairly well. And while it was a pleasant first time watch I feel like I probably won’t watch it repeatedly. Rebecca Hall - Evelyn Caster Johnny Depp - Dr Will Caster Morgan Freeman - Joseph Tagger Paul Bettany - Max Waters Cillian Murphy – Agent Buchanan Kate Mara – Bree Josh Stewart – Paul Clifton Collins Jr – Martin Wallace Langham – Dr. Strauss Budget – estimated $100 million Worldwide gross – $103 million #trancendence #johnnydepp #paulbettany #scifimovies #artificialintelligence #skynet #scifi #podcast #podcastersofinstagram #podcastlife #500filmchallenge #podcasting (at Haverhill, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdMiATfMMtW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

THE NEW BARBARIANS 1983 action/sci-fi #15 of 500 In 2019, a nuclear holocaust reduces the world to a handful of starving survivors. Two wandering mercenary‘s find themselves assisting a group of pilgrims in their battle against the ruthless Templars, a vicious gang bent on cleansing the earth of the rest of humanity. Equal parts Mad Max, and Death Race 5000, this is an interesting watch for Fred Williamson completionists, but definitely not for the easily triggered. The film itself has decent pacing and humor along with its action, but production quality definitely lands it directly in grindhouse territory. If you can look past the leather clad bowling ball sized shoulder pads of the Templars’ costumes, you might enjoy this little bit of B-movie insanity. THE CLUB: AKA PROM NIGHT V 1994 Horror Though technically not billed as “Prom Night V” anywhere but in a Japanese video box release, this particular installment holds true to some of the pun laced fun of sequels two and three. Midnight strikes at the prom, and slowly five teens and a particularly homicidal teacher realize that time has stopped and they are trapped within the cathedral where the prom was taking place. Now they must face themselves and their own worst fears, or an even worse fate when time resumes. PROM NIGHT 4: DELIVER US FROM EVIL 1992 Suspense/Horror #12 of 500 This film veers hard away from the campy Freddy Krueger meets Carrie mash up involving Mary Lou Maloney, and dives into completely humor devoid, crazed Catholic priest kills horny teenager territory. The film itself revolves around four teenagers who decide to completely forgo their high school prom, and instead spend the evening in a mostly abandoned summer home. Vaguely PG-13 debauchery ensues, but is quickly sidetracked by the presence of a priest hell-bent on dispatching the overly hormonal sinners in the name of “his Lord“. The fun and gore of the original three films is completely missing from this fourth installment. Had the films creators kept true to the material, and added a little more humor, gore, or gratuitous nudity, this film might’ve been possible. Instead what you have is a painfully slow suspense film mostly devoid of any of the elements synonymous with the horror films of the 80s and early 90s 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 J H Wyman - Mark Nicole De Boer - Megan Joy Tanner – Laura James Carver – Jonas Alle Gahdban - Jeff Brock Simpson - Father Colin Kenneth McGregor - Père Jaeger Krista Bulmer – Lisa Fab Filippo - Jonathan Thea Andrews – Louise Ray Seger – Rafe Carolyn Tweedle – Sister Jude Deni DeLory - Jennifer Phillip Morris – Brad #500filmchallenge #promnight4deliverusfromevil #nicoledeboer #jhwyman #joytanner #suspensemovie #horrormovie #horror #podcast #podcasting #podcaster #podcasts #podcastersofinstagram #podcastlife (at Haverhill, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ccosu4csbZx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Madelines 2022 Comedy/sci-fi/horror #7 of 500 Madeline (Brea Grant) and her boyfriend Owen (Parry Shen) are scientists on the brink of discovering the secrets to time travel with the help from backing from Rory Devonshire (Richard Riehle) a wealthy philanthropist. After a successful initial run with an orange and a very unsuccessful bit of experimentation with a mouse, the couple decide that there is an issue with the programs code. During a spur of the moment Epiphany Madeline goes back to work thinking that she may have fixed the issue with the code. Not wanting to wait she jumps in headfirst, Transporting herself into the future. Upon her return Owen discovers her unconscious on the back lawn. Her return from the future sparks questions. A duplicate arriving the following day raises even more questions. Convinced that an error in Madeline’s fix for the initial code glitch has created duplicates which will arrive at the same time every day in the exact same spot, they theorized that they must now kill each duplicate, or the world, the universe, and time itself will unravel. An intriguing story, played out fairly well in low budget form, Madelines is intriguing even in spite of its obvious flaws. Brea Grant plays multiple versions of herself with slightly varied personalities and seems to act along side of herself with ease, in spite of the lack of chemistry between herself and Perry the actor portraying Owen. The only drawback to my experience watching this was one twist to the ending too far. 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬 Brea Grant – Madeline Parry Shen – Owen Richard Riehle - Rory Devonshire #madelines #madelinesfilm #madelines2022 #horrormovies #scifimovies #timetravel #breagrant #parryshen #richardriehle #podcast #500filmchallenge (at Haverhill, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcEjynKsQSr/?utm_medium=tumblr

MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON 1984 Romantic/Drama #6 of 500 feeling a little nostalgic for the comedic prowess of Robin Williams I decided to dig around for things that I haven’t had the time to sit down and watch. Moscow on the Hudson, a film which showed off Robin Williams early dramatic chops, as unconventional male romantic protagonist Vladimir Ivanoff, was a perfect beginning to that little adventure. Vladimir was a saxophonist for a Circus in Moscow, who, during a trip to New York City, defected from Russia during the circus troupes trip to a local Bloomingdale’s. Hiding behind Lucia‘s (Maria Conchita Alonso) perfume counter, and awkwardly under the back of her skirt, he begged her for assistance with defecting before running off into the store and ultimately being helped by Lionel (Cleavant Derricks), One of the stores security guards. Upon the arrival of the local police to assist with Vladimir’s defection, Lionel offers to let him live with him for the time being, becoming his first and closest friend in America. What follows is a love story between two immigrants from very different worlds. A story of the close bond of friendship. And a story of finding, taking, and making your dreams come as an immigrant in America. 🧳 🧳 🧳 🧳 🧳 Robin Williams – Vladimir Ivanoff Maria Conchita Alonso – Lucia Lombardo Cleavant Derricks – Lionel Witherspoon Elya Baskin – Anatoly Saveli Kramarov - Boris Yakov Smirnoff - Lev Alejandro Rey – Orlando Ramírez Budget - $13 million Worldwide gross – $25 million #500filmchallenge #Podcast #RobinWilliams #cinematicanarchy #MoscowOnTheHudson #comedyfilm #romanticdrama #mariaconchitaalonso #cleavantderricks #yakovsmirnoff https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb_ZZ0wsxFr/?utm_medium=tumblr

IDIOCRACY 2006 Comedy/Sci-fi #5 of 500 Mike Judge’s box office flop Idiocracy is the story of an average guy (Joe “Not Sure” Bowers, played by Luke Wilson) and and average girl (Rita, played by Maya Rudolph) as they find themselves guinea pigs in a secret government experiment to put soldiers into stasis. Having signed on for only one year the pair are surprised when they awaken 500 years in the future where the average intelligence of humanity had declined so steeply that Joe was now considered to be the smartest man in the world. After a series of incidents land both Joe and Rita in jail at different times, Joe is finally released and then hired by President Camacho (Terry Crews) as the secretary of the interior. The presidents hopes being that the smartest man in the world can solve an issue with dying crops, the dust bowl, a rapidly declining economy, and other societal ailments. The film itself plays as a criticism on the dumbing down of society, which feels more like a stark warning now than it did when I first viewed the film upon its release. Showing bleak visuals of governmental, economical and infrastructural chaos, punctuated by slap-stick humor with a heavy focus on intellectual and cultural stupidity, the movie feels both absurd and a little too real. 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪 🤪 Luke Wilson - Private Joe Bowers Maya Rudolph - Rita Dax Shepard -Frito Terry Crews - President Camacho Andrew Wilson - Beef Supreme David Herman - Secretary of State Sara Rue - Attorney General Thomas Hayden Church - Brawndo CEO Scarface - Upgrayedd Justin Long - Doctor Budget - $4 Million Worldwide gross - $495,303 #idiocracy #terrycrews #lukewilson #mayarudolph #daxshepard #justinlong #comedymovies #mikejudge #future #podcast #500filmchallenge (at Haverhill, Massachusetts) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb9DPHGMcRl/?utm_medium=tumblr
