New Post has been published on https://fastmusclecar.com/5-of-the-best-australian-muscle-cars-ever-built/best-muscle-cars/
5 Of The Best Australian Muscle Cars Ever Built
While American muscle cars usually command the spotlight in terms of V8 vehicles, Australia also has its fair share of classics. We will delve into five of these classic vehicles which have stood the test of time. All of these vehicles are being shortlisted from a balance of collectability, performance, and general reputation.
1. Holden Monaro
The Holden Monaro is a legendary nameplate in the world of Australian muscle cars. Originally introduced in 1968, the Monaro quickly gained a reputation for its sleek design and formidable performance on the road and the racetrack. With powerful V8 engines under the hood and a timeless coupe silhouette, the Monaro captured the hearts of car enthusiasts across generations. Its iconic status was cemented with the release of modern iterations, including the Monaro VZ and the limited-edition Monaro CV8-Z.
2. Ford Falcon GT
The Ford Falcon GT is possibly the first Australian muscle car, depending on who you ask. The initial XR GT performance version housed a 4.7-liter, 289 ci V8 engine, with 68 and 71 eras having a 5.8-liter, 351 Cleveland V8 producing 300-350hp. The first Aussie-made version was the 1972 XA Falcon which came as a two-door coupe, with a top speed of 142 mph and a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds. Over the years, the Falcon GT has evolved to become a symbol of Australian performance engineering, with each new generation pushing the boundaries of power and innovation. Models like the Falcon GT-HO Phase III have achieved legendary status among collectors and enthusiasts, Adding to the Falcon GT’s status.
3. Chrysler Valiant Charger
The Chrysler Valiant Charger was based on the Dodge Dart and Plymouth Valiant, but entirely Australian-made. With its long hood, short deck, and aggressive styling cues, the Valiant Charger stood out from the crowd and became a symbol of rebellion and freedom on the open road. Standout versions include the RT model with a 4.3-liter, 265 ci Hemi 6, producing 302 hp, with a 0 to 60 time of 6 seconds. For those wanting more luxury, the Charger 770 SE came with a 5.6-liter, 340-ci V8 and 275hp, Today, well-preserved Charger models are highly sought after by collectors, with the early 70s models being the most desirable.
4. HSV GTSR W1
Developed by Holden Special Vehicles (HSV), the HSV GTSR W1 is a limited-edition super sedan that pays homage to the classic muscle cars of yesteryear while incorporating the latest in automotive technology. With a supercharged V8 engine producing over 600 horsepower, advanced aerodynamics, and track-tuned suspension, the GTSR W1 is capable of tearing up the track with ease. Its aggressive styling and menacing presence make it an instant classic, destined to be remembered as one of the greatest Australian muscle cars.
5. Holden Sandman
American Australia had similar problems in the early 1970s. Huge distances to cover, while needing a vehicle to haul a decent amount of daily items. America solved a problem with the Chevrolet El Camino and the Ford Ranchero, while Australia came up with the ‘Ute.’ A regular muscle car upfront with a van at the back. The top version of the Sandman came with a 5.0-liter 308 engine, with a top speed of 125 mph. Standout features include the radial tuned suspension – leaf springs in the rear, coil springs for the front wheels to address the radial tires.

thoughts on the BMW *inhale* B57D30S0 engine (a.k.a. the 50d motor)? y'know, the diesel one with the 4 turbo's.
It also seems to be quite common (at least where I live) for how silly it sounds on paper. Like, I see 50d-badged Bimmers on a weekly basis.
I can tell you, for one, that I should start setting up donations for my blog, considering if quad-turbo 5.0 liter BMWs are that common where you live a buck probably matters more to me than you XD
That aside... I honestly cannot figure out what it is for. Whoever is getting a 5.0 BMW is miles past any point where fuel economy is any concern at all, so what is the point? Performance? I mean, sure, short of getting involved with Alpina or such tuners you have no way to top 760N/m of torque, but who cares about torque enough to spring for a quad-turbo inline six and cares about horsepower little enough not to get the petrol V8 and literally get 99% of the torque and 32% more power? I can't imagine much of an advantage in noise (especially nowadays that it seems the noise luxury cars make is just whatever you want them to), nor any price differential that would matter to anyone buying such a car new.
I mean, one reason my mind would normally go to is driving excitement, but hell, the most exciting car it was ever mounted on was a 5-series, and far be it from me to say a large sedan can't be exciting, but I mean...
youtube
...look at this POV. Every second of this video I am asking myself "So what" and I am not seeing a ton of compelling answers. This is not even the most exciting way to go real fast in a specced-out current-gen 5-series, so what's the point? My only guess is to make going 260 the least exciting experience possible. And I understand that can be appealing to some but I am usually on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. (Usually. I do love me a good E38L V12.)
So for me, this 50d is best left off. Especially because then it spells 50d Off and I am a baby so that's funny to me.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 More than 60 years ago, the Ford Mustang was created with a magic formula that has served it well. It's always been a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door with sporty bucket seats and a small backseat. With a long hood and short rear deck, the Mustang looks powerful and sporty, even in base-level trims. Ford has recently dropped most of its car line, leaving just the Mustang and specialty Ford GT among a host of SUVs and pickup trucks.
For 2022, Ford is bypassing major changes to the Mustang in favor of freshening the lineup with five new special-edition models. The Mustang is one of those rare vehicles that can justify a very wide price spread. A basic Mustang EcoBoost Fastback has a starting price of just over $28,000, while the Shelby GT500 has a base price of more than $70,000. Options can push that price to about $100,000. The 2022 Ford Mustang coupe is available in six trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, Mach 1, and Shelby GT500. Convertibles and Premium trims are limited to the EcoBoost and GT trims. The convertibles cost about $5,000 more than the equivalent coupes.
The GT Premium is the popular trim, but we recommend the GT. The Ford Mustang's base engine is a turbocharged 310-horsepower 2.3-liter four-cylinder backed by a six-speed manual transmission or an optional 10-speed rev-matching automatic. The high-performance 2.3-liter brings output to 330 hp. Both four-cylinder-equipped Mustangs are well-balanced and fun to drive. For more power, the GT has a 5.0-liter V8 rated at 450 hp. Buyers choose between a six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic. The Mach 1 has a 470-hp version of the 5.0-liter V8 and uses a six-speed rev-matching manual or 10-speed automatic. Finally, there is the Shelby GT500 with its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 delivering 760 hp and 625 pound-feet of torque. It's matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic that allows rapid manual gear selection. If high fuel economy is important, consider the EcoBoost models.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Ford Mustang with the base 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and automatic transmission gets an estimated 21 mpg during city driving and 32 mpg on the highway. A 5.0-liter V8-equipped Mustang GT with automatic transmission earns 15/24 mpg city/highway. Manual transmissions drop those numbers by about 1 mpg.

The Evolution of the Ford Mustang: A Symbol of American Muscle
Introduction:
The Ford Mustang, often hailed as an icon of American automotive culture, has been captivating car enthusiasts since its debut in 1964. Over the decades, this iconic pony car has undergone significant transformations, reflecting changes in technology, design, and consumer preferences. This article explores the history, evolution, and enduring legacy of the Mustang, examining why it remains a symbol of freedom and performance.
The Birth of an Icon
The Mustang was born during a time of social upheaval and economic growth in the United States. In the early 1960s, Ford aimed to create a vehicle that would attract a younger demographic. The original Mustang was introduced at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964. It was an instant hit, offering a unique blend of style, performance, and affordability. Priced around $2,368, the Mustang was within reach for many young buyers, setting the stage for a new segment of the automotive market: the "pony car."
The first-generation Mustang featured a long hood, short rear deck, and a range of engine options that catered to various performance desires. It became a cultural phenomenon, appearing in films, music, and countless car shows. The Mustang’s success prompted other manufacturers to jump into the market, leading to the birth of competitors like the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird.
The Muscle Car Era
The late 1960s and early 1970s marked the golden age of muscle cars, and the Mustang was at the forefront of this movement. Ford introduced powerful engine options, including the iconic 428 Cobra Jet and the 351 Windsor V8. These engines not only delivered impressive horsepower but also enhanced the Mustang's reputation for performance on the street and the racetrack.
However, the muscle car craze was not without challenges. The 1973 oil crisis led to rising fuel prices and shifting consumer preferences. As a result, manufacturers, including Ford, began to focus on fuel efficiency and practicality in their designs. The Mustang underwent its first major redesign in 1974, transitioning from the sporty lines of the original to a more compact and subdued appearance. While this move aimed to cater to a more conservative market, it disappointed many traditionalists who yearned for the raw power of the earlier models.
The Comeback: Reviving the Spirit
By the 1980s, the Mustang's identity was in jeopardy. Sales had declined, and Ford was faced with the challenge of reviving its classic model. In 1982, Ford introduced the third generation of the Mustang, known as the Fox-body. This model was lighter and offered a variety of engine options, including turbocharged variants. The Fox-body Mustang garnered a loyal following and helped revitalise interest in the brand.
The Mustang's resurgence continued into the 1990s. The fourth generation, launched in 1994, returned to a more aggressive design reminiscent of the original. The introduction of the SVT Cobra models reestablished the Mustang's performance credentials, appealing to both nostalgic fans and new buyers alike. The 1990s also saw the Mustang solidifying its presence in popular culture, with appearances in movies like "Gone in 60 Seconds" and TV shows such as "Knight Rider."
The Modern Era: Technology Meets Tradition
The 2000s heralded a new chapter for the Mustang, as Ford embraced modern technology while paying homage to its heritage. The fifth generation, introduced in 2005, featured a retro design that echoed the original’s classic lines, attracting both longtime enthusiasts and a new generation of buyers. Under the hood, Ford offered an array of powerful engines, including a 5.0-liter V8 that became a favourite among performance aficionados.
The Mustang continued to evolve with the sixth generation, launched in 2015. This iteration embraced global markets, with an independent rear suspension for improved handling and performance. Ford also introduced advanced technology, such as adaptive cruise control, a touchscreen infotainment system, and a host of safety features that elevated the Mustang into the modern age.
In recent years, Ford has introduced electric variants and performance-focused models like the Mustang Mach-E, a fully electric SUV that carries the Mustang name into the future.
