I present the master Paige/Azzi youtube watchlist in chronological order of filming (sorta). I'm not including every game because that would take forever but I did include workouts that I've loved watching. Of course this doesn't have everything but maybe someone can help put together a playlist or something haha. I just wanted all the major interviews that I love in one spot tbh and I supposed this is also a great way for new fans to get to know these two players actually.

I Need You \\ alexia putellas x morgan!reader
Tumblr media
July 2022
International break wasn’t your favourite time. Since you and Alexia play for different national teams, you are competing in different competitions over the summer. You’re playing in the CONCACAF championship and Alexia in the Euros. Of course you text, call and facetime each other but on some days it’s just not enough.
You are currently at breakfast sitting at the table containing Alex, Charlie, Kelley, Mal, Sonnett and Kristie. You all somehow got onto the topic of everyone’s partners and the girls are teasing you about Alexia.
“Auntie Y/N/N, where’s Aunt Lex?” Your niece Charlie questions as she climbs onto your lap, visibly upset.
“She plays for Spain remember bubba. She’s in England for the Euros”
“Oh” Charlie frowns as you tighten your arms around the 2 year old.
“But you are going to visit her soon okay?” Charlie nods and cuddles into you more.
You get back to eating breakfast, with Charlie stealing some of your toast when your phone rings from next to you. Charlie looks down and gets excited because she sees Alexia’s face on the contact photo. You move away to the side of the room, away from your teammates so you can hear Alexia.
“Bebé? I need you here. It hurts” Alexia pleads, almost sounding like she’s been crying.
“What hurts Ale? What happened” You start to panic and start pacing in the converted dining hall, which some of your teammates become worried as you are speaking Spanish fast.
“My knee. I did my ACL. I’ve been waiting for this for years and now it’s out the window” Tears start forming in your eyes and you blink them away.
“I’ll talk to Vlatko and he should let me come home, seeing as it is a family emergency. If not, it’ll be after the first game. I’m so sorry hermosa” You sit down against a wall, slightly away from your table.
Vlatko looks over at the mention of his name. You wave him off and he nods in consideration. You talk to Alexia for a few more minutes until she says Mapi is there. You tell Alexia to put Mapi on the phone.
“Maps you take care of her until I get there. I don’t care what you do but stay with her please” You beg your best friend.
“Sí, I’ll do everything I can Y/N/N, you know that. We’ll see you soon. Ale wants to say something” You hear some mumbling then your loving fiancés voice again.
“Please hurry mi amor. I really need you” Alexia begs you.
You’ve never heard her voice like that in the whole 5 years of being together. You know in that moment, you need to get to her. And you need to get to her fast. You turn around to see Alex gesturing that they need you back.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can baby. Te amo mucho hermosa and I’ll see you soon” You say as you walk back to the table. You throw your phone down and rest your head on your arms.
“Everything okay?” Alex whispers as she leans into you and Charlie attempts to climb back on your lap.
“Lex tore her ACL. Mapi texted me while I was speaking to her, she hasn’t even cried yet”
“Let’s listen to the staff so you can get outta here”
After the short meeting, Vlatko pulls you aside and says you can go to Alexia. He says you can come back and play when you’re ready, if you’re ready. You thank him and Vlatko gets everyones attention so you can make the announcement.
“Can I have everyone’s attention? I just want to say how proud I am of everyone here. As your co-captain I really hate to do this to you all but I have no choice. I know that you all will succeed and listen to Becky. I am leaving camp because Alexia has been injured very badly about 3 hours ago. She will most likely need surgery so I am leaving to hopefully be there by the time she wakes up. I’m not sure if I’ll come back for any games, but ultimately it will decide on how Alexia is doing”
You say your goodbyes to everyone before racing up to your room and gathering your things together. You book a flight to London and get the hotel name off of Mapi. You get changed out of your USA gear and order an uber. You wheel your luggage to the foyer of the hotel when you hear a little voice call your name.
“Aunt Y/N/N!” You turn around and see Charlie running as fast as she can towards you. What you don’t see is the entire team at the entrance of the conference room watching on. You bend down and scoop the nearly 3 year old in your arms.
“Where you going?” Charlie inquires.
“Auntie Ale hurt her knee baby so I have to go make sure she’s okay” You explain.
“Okay, give Auntie Ale this?” Charlie holds her toy you both got her when she was born.
“Mr Monkey will help her knee gets better!” The team laughs at Charlie and you put it in your backpack.
“He’s all safe in here. I’ll see you soon okay?”
You say goodbye to your sister before getting in an Uber to the airport. On the way to the airport, you text Alexia for a while and she only replies with one or two word answers, this is worse than you thought. You called Alexia’s sister Alba and she explains what’s going to happen with the surgery and what hospital. You ask Alba to text you any updates while you’re travelling and she replies with ‘of course I will y/n/n 😊’.
After the usual airport routine of bag drops and long security and custom lines, you finally sit in the seat you’ll be in for the next 12 hours. You quickly text Alba to let her know you’re on your way. The plane lands 12 hours later, you arrive in a gloomy London. After collecting your bags, you into hop into the closest taxi and give the driver the hotel name. When you arrive, you ask the taxi man to stay as you’ll only be a few minutes. Thankfully he agrees and you make a mental note to left a big tip for him later. You check into the hotel and left your bags behind the desk. You remember to get Mr Monkey out of your backpack before going back to the taxi. You tell the taxi driver the hospital and watch the scenery as it passes by. The taxi driver pulls up to an entrance and you give him all your cash before running inside. You look around and can’t seem to find the desk. After what feels like turning a million and one corners, you are met with the in patients desk.
“Hi, my wife Alexia Putellas came in. Where is she?”
“Ah yes, let me search that for you...she’s just gotten out of surgery a few hours ago so you can wait in the family area just around the corner”
You thank the nurse and take a deep breath before going to the family area. Palms sweaty and slightly out of breath, you turn the corner and see Alba and Eli. You walk quickly and sit across from them. Eli looks up at you with a relieved look on her face.
“Thank goodness you’re here sweetheart. She won’t let any of us in until she sees you first” Eli tells you and you frown at the comment. You are confused at the same time because Alexia is really close with her mom and sister.
You get the room number from Eli and start to make your way to Alexia’s room. You count down the room numbers until you reach room 1411. You take a deep breath before softly knock on the door. You open it slowly to see Alexia looking out the window, not bothering to see who’s coming in.
“Mi amor” Alexia’s head whips around and her eyes soften. Like she’s relieved that you’re there with her and not another nurse or doctor.
You walk around to her good side to give her a tight hug. After a few minutes, you try to pull away but Alexia doesn’t let go. Eventually, she lets you go and attempts to move over in her bed so you can stay as close to her as possible.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to hurt you” Alexia nods and you give her a kiss on her forehead before carefully manoeuvring yourself in her bed.
“I’m sorry I took so long. The plane was delayed then there was a stor-”
“You’re here now, that’s all that matters. I’m sorry I pulled you away from your team” Alexia frowns after she realises what happened.
“Baby, you are more important than anyone or any soccer tournament. If you’re hurting, I’m going to be on the first plane out” Alexia cuddles into you more and you kiss her forehead.
“Have you seen Eli or Alba yet?” You feel Alexia shake her head and you ask if she wants to see them. You give Alexia a soft kiss before going to get her mom and sister.
A few hours later, after conversations on Alexia’s rehab and you going back to Mexico, Alba reaches behind you and holds Mr Monkey, looking confused.
“What’s this?” You look at Alexia and she slightly smiles as she knows exactly who it came from.
“When I was leaving, Charlie asked where I was going and I said I need to see Aunt Ale, she hurt her knee. Charlie said Mr Monkey can help her knee get better” Alba gives it to Alexia and she tucks it under her arm. You take a sneaky photo and send it to Alex to show Alexia.
A nurse comes in and says visiting hours are over but mentions you can stay due to being Alexia’s partner. Eli and Alba bid their goodbyes to you both and promise to visit first thing tomorrow. As soon as Alba and Eli leave, Alexia breaks down in tears. She tightens her arm around you and you do the same around her. You just hold Alexia and kiss her forehead while whispering sweet nothings to her.
“Let it all out babe. Let it all out” You say trying to comfort Alexia.
After a while, she lifts her head and sees the massive tear stain on your grey hoodie.
“I’m sorry mi amor” Alexia apologies after seeing your hoodie.
“It’ll dry Ale. More importantly, are you okay?” You asked worriedly.
“I am now. I just needed to let it all out. Thank you hermosa. Te amo mucho” Alexia expresses before kissing you softly.
“I love you too Ale. We will get through this together” You hold Alexia tight until you both falling asleep.
February 2023 (lets pretend its not the World Cup year)
7 months later and Alexia and you are finally coming back to training together. You park your newly bought Cupra in the Barca car park and you look over at Alexia. She was staring at the training fields in front and is frozen in place, only blinking and breathing. Your hand on her thigh makes Alexia jump and look at you with anxiety filled eyes.
“What’s wrong Ale?” You ask softly, turning in your seat, facing Alexia fully.
“I’m scared. What if it happens again?” Alexia replies looking.
“Mi amor look at me” Alexia looks up and you cup her cheeks gently.
“You are Alexia Putellas Segura. You will kick trainings arse today. I am so proud of you mi amor” Alexia leans forward and kisses you before you hear knocking on both sides of the car.
You both pull away to see Mapi and Ingrid laughing to themselves. You and Alexia get out and you quickly grab both of your bags.
“Bebé, I’m not on crutches anymore. I can get my own bag”
“Just because you can baby, doesn’t mean you should” As you walk away, Alexia’s heart skips a beat at the gesture.
You all walk into the locker room and the girls in there cheer at their captain walking through the door for the first time in a while. She tells them to quit it and they stop immediately, with you trying to hide your giggle at your cubby. Everyone gets changed and walks out to the field where now all the staff are clapping her out. Alexia turns to you and hides in your neck.
“Embrace it mi amor, la reina is back” You whisper to her before kissing her head.
Alexia participates in a few light drills with the team before going over for her 1v1 training. She gives you a kiss on the cheek before starting to jog around the field. You and the other girls start scrimmage and Jonotan puts you, Kiera, Mapi, Ingrid and Cata as one team and Lucy, Oshoala, Pina, Rolfö and Panos on the other.
The scrimmage was going well until you went to pivot around Lucy and that’s when it all went wrong. Lucy catches you as you go down and you instantly felt pain and you screamed as you went down. Alexia stops her drills as she looks over and see you on the ground. She apologises to the staff and runs over to you as quickly as she can. You couldn’t stop holding your right knee with one hand and banging your fist one the ground with the other. The medics tell you to turn over and you block out the sun with your hands but also wipe your tears away subtly. You feel familiar hands on your back and you look to see Alexia. The medics and a few of your teammates lift you on the stretcher that takes you straight to the hospital. Alexia gives one look to Jonotan and he nods at her to say ‘forget training and go with her’. Alexia runs into the training room and grabs her phone and a little something special that will cheer you up later on that she hides in her hoodie.
After countless hours in the hospital, it came to the conclusion that you torn your ACL. You are exactly how Alexia was, closed off and not speaking to anyone except each other. You rest your head on Alexia’s chest and cuddle up to her the best you can, when you both hear a soft knock on the door. You look towards it and see Lucy, Keira, Mapi and Ingrid. You wave them in and balloons, teddy bears and flowers decorated your view.
“What did they say?” Lucy asks.
“ACL” All 4 of your closest friends winced at the three letters then instantly got a sad look on their faces.
You all converse until a nurse comes in to tell you that visiting hours are over. All the girls hug you tightly and say they’ll visit after the game tomorrow. Alexia leans down and gives you a sweet kiss.
“We will get through this together mi amor. Te amo mucho”
“Te amo Ale” They all start to walk out of the room, then Alexia remembered something.
“Oh bebé, so your knee is all better”
Alexia places Mr Monkey with your phone next to you. You smile at Ale and decide to send your sister photos of your condition.
Lex 👯‍♀️❤️:

Thanks @cherikdogfood for tagging me, I really enjoyed answering these questions.
Are you named after anyone?
Yes my great grandmother, and they told me she was a viery fierce and strong woman, she had also resisted to the Bulgarians during their occupation of Thrace in WW2. I am proud to be named after her!
When was the last time you cried?
Like real, physical tears? I never cried like that as far as I remember. I am physically unable to cry and currently working on that with my therapist, yk letting myself feel things. But this quite sobbing, when my team got knocked out of thecup a couple of months ago because of a shitty referee. I tend to get angry when feeling overwhelmed so I usually shout.
Do you have kids?
No, unless you count my pets
What sport do you play/have played?
A lot! I mainly did horseback riding my whole life but I also played basketball for about three tears and my team were in the first youth league at the time. I also played handball and tennis and did track and kick boxing. I also played football (where you kick the ball with your feet) for three years and I was a goalkeeper, I would have played in my national team if I didn’t have so many injures and an acl surgery during my second season and my exams and also the covid pandemic during my third season. But if I have to sum up, I do horseback riding for 15 years and football for 3, I hope I get back to it one day.
Do you use sarcasm?
Yeah, more now that I grew up.
What's the first thing you notice about people?
How tall they are, and their colour of their eyes!
What's your eye color?
Blue!
Happy ending comedies or horror?
Happy ending comedies, B99 is a huge fave of mine.
Any talents?
I am a very good artist, I draw very well on pen (but I barely post it) and I have been writing screenplays ever since I was 5 y/o. I have a talent for languages as well but I barely use it since I hate learning grammar. I can speak 3 so far (my native Greek, English and French) and I still work on two more (German and Dutch).
Where were you born?
Greece!
What are your hobbies?
I am a scout, I love horseback riding, I love to draw and write, watching movies and our favorite football team with my sister and play lots of sports. I also like to go for a run at 06:00 in the morning and recently got into watching F1.
Any pets?
Yes, my dog Teddy, my mom says he is a mini copy of me but he is afraid of everything in this world and I am of nothing. I also count my sister’s cat Kitty and my brother’s parrot Corey since we all live in the same house and because they are younger than me, I used to help take care of them.
How tall are you?
180cm (I think it’s 6ft)
Dream job?
Military officer! I want to join the Air Force. Or a police officer!!
Favorite food?
Rice with schnitzel and white sauce with mushrooms, cheese and bacon.
I know I am supposed to tag more people but I really have no idea who to tag, so I didn’t.

I'm so sorry to ask as I've been out of the kpop loop quite a while but what injury for Coups that has him exempt? I didn't realize he had some sort of injury 😥 absolutely no judgement on it, I think injury should 100% be exempt, I just didn't know what his injury is
No worries at all! I totally understand. I know it wasn't super clear in the report.
In August of last year, Svt was filming some content when Coups ended up tearing his ACL in his left knee. The ACL is a very important ligament in your knee, and tearing it is VERY bad and VERY painful. I watch women's soccer, and this happens so frequently you wouldn't believe it. It can really mess you up, and it requires a lot of surgery to get it fixed. Even then, your knee is never really the same after an ACL tear. It comes with a lot of continuous chronic pain. He went on indefinite hiatus from the group to get his surgery and go through rehab, and even then he's still not fully back and involved in group activities.
So, tl;dr, he tore a very important ligament in his knee which is incredibly, unbelievably painful and requires surgeries AND copious amounts of rehabilitation, and never really fully goes away. In this particular case, his injury was so bad that it caused him to be labelled as a Grade 5, meaning he is completely exempt from his military service - means the injury was BAD bad.
I found an article HERE that has more information!
Thank you so much for asking and checking in, and for treating this situation with kindness!

( tw. injury & mention of drug abuse.)
At the age of five, with cleats strapped onto her feet, she stepped onto the soccer field for the first time. Chasing after the ball surrounded by a horde of children her age, all of them driven by the same goal. Her first attempt at scoring resulted in the ball landing in her own goal, but the cheers that erupted from the bleachers and the field awakened something within her. Her passion for the sport began shortly after that incident. By the age of ten, her parents had enrolled her not only in a community league but also in a private travel league. She spent countless hours and days on turfed fields, practicing with that little black and white ball that had become the center of her life. As she entered high school, the question gradually shifted from whether the girl had the potential to go pro to when she would go pro. She became a breath of fresh air for recruiters and the youngest member on the Aurora Bay's varsity soccer team. Eventually even taking the title as captain her junior year. With excellent grades and exceptional technique, Amara found herself in Florida after graduating. Her plan was to stay there for the next four years and earn a degree in sports and fitness. However, by the time her junior year came around, she had already been scouted. At the young age of twenty-one, she signed a six-year contract worth $1 million with The Kansas City Currents. With her exceptional skills, she had hopes of extending the contract after winning numerous awards, such as Rookie of the Year and MVP. However, in her sixth year, everything changed when she suffered a life-altering injury on the field - a torn ACL. She recalls the day vividly, looking up at the screen and seeing herself lying on the ground, tears in her eyes while clutching her right leg. She remembers her teammates surrounding her and a stretcher being brought onto the field to take her away. The end of her career seemed to flash before her eyes. She attempted to expedite her recovery, but pushing herself beyond the advised limits ended up causing more harm than good. When she realized she was relying on medication more than necessary, she understood that she needed assistance. She returned home to Aurora Bay, CA a year later, with only half of the money she had originally signed for. Her parents welcomed her back with open arms, but the long-term effects of losing the one thing she had ever loved had lasting damage. Amara has been in town now a little over a year and currently resides in Crystal Cove Condominiums. She's currently the soccer coach for Aurora Bay High School.

.
so I most likely have MS
It could be just something else wrong with my brain or spinal cord still can't be properly seen until late Jan, probably can't get the MRI until Feb but the current symptoms and ones from previous years add up to been having it
optic neuritis and uhthoff’s syndrome is the name for what I've been dealing with since July and it's only now somewhat getting 'better'. I can see much better for much longer but still have blindness nonstop and the daily headaches. For the last two weeks I couldn't be on a phone or see a screen for longer than 5 mins without pain and nonstop flashes. Can't even read too long or my eyes just stop functioning. It's a strange thing to experience. And it's the usual first sign of MS.
I also had a small bad fall last month and it was bad enough that I have a complete ACL tear, so surgery is pending. Seeing the doc about it hopefully soon to gauge time frame
I spent all of November on the couch cuz I can't walk and see properly. I really couldn't do anything but it kinda helped in a way. I'm spitballing that one of my "most likely is MS" triggers is stress, so once my partner came back and I'm not physically alone anymore I withdrew from... everything really.
Logged out of everything, muted and disabled anything with a notification, friends unfortunately (whichever ones I think I have left). But in general I really needed to hit pause, questionable that this was a way to go about it but I do feel less stressed a bit. I mean I have to be slow atm with my leg, it literally hurts to try and play games/be on PC and phone, also too broke to do anything but checkout books at the library(which I like to do anyways) so can't do much; my vision has definitely improved better in the last few weeks than the last four months so tiny lining? I'm honestly only here now cuz I 1. forgot insomnia meds and 2. can watch a stream and touch a keyboard without a painful headache after so long and 3. Can actually SEE
I'm rambling at this point and only for myself really. I just finally feel like myself again for the first time in a very long and newest personal lowest year in my life. I'm so exhausted that I can't even bother with wanting to die atm. Almost funny that my brain is trying to do that for me anyways lol. But I know this one normal moment is brief. i think my headspace will be much better as my appt gets closer and i might get back to my online presence with it but for now I'm still thinking about staying off things help.
I am still very tired of trying to be 'normal' and of trying to function through it all. I'm tired of deteriorating every passing year and masking all the chronic pain with no valid name but now I'm closer to some proper and correct reason for it all. At the very least I can get handicap parking privilege and a true medical weed pass. Maybe an eyepatch would look good on me? Using mobility aids with less guilt? Idk
comforting prospects in hard times

2022
I've answered these questions on various platforms for over ten years now, I think? That's wild. There's better questions out there but tradition is tradition.
1. What did you do this year that you’d never done before?
Lived alone.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions?
I don't tend to make them. My goals evolved over the year. I did aim to spend more time doing creative stuff and while I still didn't meet my expectations, I did did more than I had previously and just feel like I'm moving more to where I want to be.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My aunty gave birth to my cousin, which will probably be the last of our generation of grandchildren. We share the same middle name - my grandma's name - which feels really special.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not a person, but my darling dog Juno had to be put down a few months ago. She was almost thirteen years old, and it was time, but that was just awful.
5. What cities/states/countries did you visit?
This year I found myself in a long distance relationship, so I went to Brisbane quite a lot. Got back today from my fifth trip today.
Also went to Melbourne for the weekend with a friend which was lovely.
6. What would you like to have next year that you lacked this year?
More stability in health and finances. Otherwise, time with my partner.
7. What date(s) from this year will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Hoo boy, some pretty big ones. The end of April had a lot of significant dates, culminating on May 4, where I asked to separate from my husband.
And also began a new relationship.
April was a time, y'all.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Professionally, I was on top of things this year. After a couple of years where I felt overwhelmed and underappreciated, and like I wasn't doing anything right. Taking a step back from leadership and just focusing on what I was doing in the classroom was huge.
Personally? Realising I had more agency in my life than I realised.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not having that realisation earlier, I guess.
And while I do not really regret anything, there are things about my separation I could have handled better.
10. What other hardships did you face?
I mean....kind hard to trump my marriage ending. That really was the biggest thing that happened to me, though that phrase implies I had no agency in it, when in reality it was the most empowering thing I've ever done.
Grappling with the decision, putting it into action, and then dealing with the fallout is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
But also one of the best.
11. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I strained my ACL and the meniscus tendon in my right knee on my first flight to Brisbane, giving up my seat so two friends could sit together. I am lucky it wasn't worse; thankfully no surgery, just rehab and a splint, and a weak knee for god knows how long.
12. What was the best thing you bought?
All those plane tickets are up there.
But Leia, my puppy, has got to top this list. I bought her a few months after Juno died, when it was clear Percy needed a companion. It was also a decision I got to make on my own, when I was new to making those, and she has been the perfect little addition to our family. She has helped so much with my healing and the rebuild of my life.
13. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
The support and love my family, friends, and even colleagues showed me this year was unexpected and unparalleled. Where I expected judgement, I got compassion. My workplace accepted my name change without question and told me I could take as much leave as I needed. I was overwhelmed by how much understanding I was shown.
14. Whose behaviour made you appalled?
While he was acting, understandably, out of hurt, shock, and wounded pride, my ex-husband did not take our break up well, and as a result, said and did things that were beyond what I would have thought he would have. Appalled is the right description for my response. Only good thing that came out of this was it just confirmed my decision.
Also, fuck Elon Musk and Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson.
15. Where did most of your money go?
Plane tickets.
But also I had to refurnish my entire house. I did say my ex could take anything he wanted, with the exception of my bookshelves and personal belongings, and he took absolutely everything. My entire savings went to new things, and while that sucked, everything I have in my own now is mine, and bought with my money, and by my choice. I have loved making my house my own.
16. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Every time I went to Brisbane. Adopting Leia. The release of Midnights. Finally seeing Hamilton. Feeling free.
17. What song will always remind you of this year?
Call It What You Want To by Taylor Swift.
The entire Midnights album.
A bunch of other love songs.
18. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder? Oh, so much happier. Happier than I ever thought I could possibly be. ii. Thinner or fatter? I no longer pay attention to this. Probably fatter, and that's fine. I struggle a lot with my knowledge that this doesn't matter and the world's expectations on me and my body, but all I want to do is focus on my health and my strength, and fuck what I look like. iii. Richer or poorer? Technically poorer, but I have complete control over my own finances now, so while I'm broke af right now, it's in my hands, and I can afford to rent a house on my own, and buy food, and go out, and do things for myself occasionally. I am grateful finances were not a factor in preventing me from leaving my husband. I have less money, but I feel richer.
19. What do you wish you’d done more of? Reading and writing. Going to the cinema.
20. What do you wish you’d done less of? Sleeping. Worrying.
21. How did you spend Christmas? My family did our celebration on the 18th. We had a potluck lunch at my aunty's house, and it was the first time I'd seen my new baby cousin, and I was a bit worried about it being there for the first time without my husband but it turned out to be lovely.
I then drove over 2000km to Brisbane with the dogs, and spend Christmas with my boyfriend and his family. I was nervous about it, as I hadn't met all of them before, and I knew a bit about their dynamic, but it was wonderful, and I was the first girlfriend he'd ever brought to Christmas, and he was super nervous too, but it went super well and he was so happy and relieved, and that made me happy.
The best part though was honestly Christmas Eve. We made spaghetti together, and I've never had someone help me in the kitchen like that before. We played The Whitlams, and then ate dinner with a bottle of rosé I brought, a gift from a student. We ended up doing karaoke, just the two of us warbling away to Jolene, Dancing in the Dark and You Gotta Be. He then asked if we could exchange gifts then because he couldn't wait, so that's what we did. It was lovely because of what it was, but also because it felt like the start of new traditions, and I haven't felt that way in a long time.
22. Did you fall in love this year?
This really is the story of 2022 for me.
I'm not going to tell all of it, partly because it doesn't entirely belong to me, and partly because there's a lot of it I want to keep to myself.
On top of that, some of it I have already shared here. I was married for thirteen years to the man I had dated since I was 13. He was not a bad or abusive man, but there were several aspects of our relationship that often left me feeling unhappy, unseen, and unloved. But I did not know I could do anything about this. Requests for change, therapy, and even listening, went unheeded. I did not know I had the right to ask for anything else.
And then I fell in love with someone else. I was not looking for it. I did not expect it. I did not ask for it. It took me by surprise and when I saw it for what it was, it only shined a brighter light on the emptiness I felt with my husband. I confided my feelings, and the object of my affection told me simply to work things out with my husband, and he would always be my friend, and he wanted me to be happy. Nothing else happened.
But when I spoke to my husband about the problems that I saw in our marriage, and confessed that I had developed feelings for someone else, I was not faced with anyone who was open to working things out. I was told the problems in our relationship were not ours, but mine. I was told my expectations were unrealistic. I was told I was addicted to attention. I was told that the ball was in my court.
So, I left. I didn't leave for someone else; I left for me. I didn't know anyone else would be waiting for me. What I did know was that I'd a glimpse of another future for myself, and just the knowledge that it was possible was enough to know I had to leave.
But after I asked for the separation, the man I loved was waiting for me. He told me I didn't have to stay, that I was free now and could do anything I wanted. He had no expectations of me, and all he wanted was for me to be happy.
I did not know it was possible to be in love the way we are. I sold myself short for years. It feels like a waste of time, but god, I cannot believe how lucky I am to have it now.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I don’t think so.
24. What was your favorite show? Frontline. The Hollowmen. Always Sunny. Derry Girls. Abbott Elementary. Curb Your Enthusiasm.
25. What was the best book you read? Tell Me Again by Amy Thunig. How We Love by Clementine Ford. Surely You're Joking Mr Feynman by Richard P. Feynman. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery of the year? My boyfriend is a DJ who's passion is electronic music, so I've been introduced to a lot of that this year.
27. What was your favorite film?
Films that came out this year - Elvis. Top Gun: Maverick. I also barely saw anything new so I know there'd be more.
Films I watched for the first time - The Man from Earth. Anna and the Apocolypse. Being John Malkovich.
28. What was your favorite meal?
I made a lot of burgers for myself which is easy and good and comforting.
One night we went out to a Korean BBQ and I honestly think that's one of the best meals I've ever had.
29. What did you want and get?
To stay in my home and keep my dogs.
30. What did you want and not get?
I don't know how to answer this, for some reason.
31. What did you do on your birthday and how old did you turn?
I turned 34. I went to work, and then streamed on Twitch in the evening.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
To be able to get divorced. I hate that I haven't been able to fully close that chapter, and I hate the policy that says I have to wait 12 months before I know my mind and what I want.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of the year?
Comfortable. Embracing my body. Showing my tattoos. As sustainable as possible.
34. What kept you sane?
My dogs. My friends. Podcasts, particularly Maintence Phase and MBMBaM. My boyfriend. My students.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you admire the most?
Michael Hobbes, who may just be on this list forever and ever. Clementine Ford, whose work inspired me to change my life.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? The overturn of Roe v Wade - don't know if I've ever been so angry to get the news. Misogynist, right-wing men having huge platforms.
37. Who did you miss? Long distance relatonships are terrible, and I miss my boyfriend every day I am without him.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
A bunch of new people on Twitch, a community that is still new to me but been so wonderful.
39. What valuable life lesson did you learn this year?
You deserve more.
40. What is a quote that sums up your year?
Sometimes love means having the courage to end what is no longer working. Love for other people. Love for ourselves.
From 'Leave Your Husband', in How We Love by Clementine Ford
You know there's many different ways that you can kill the one you love The slowest way is never loving them enough Do you really want to know where I was April 29th? Do I really have to tell you how he brought me back to life?
From 'High Infidelity,' on Midnights, by Taylor Swift

Unseen Benefits of Dog Knee Braces: More Than Just Injury Recovery
Tumblr media
Imagine this: your loyal dog, once an energetic and playful companion, now hesitates when climbing stairs or playing fetch. You've noticed the limp, the slow movement, and the discomfort on their face. It's heartbreaking, but what if there was a simple solution to help them regain their mobility? Dog knee braces are emerging as a life-changing solution for dogs suffering from knee issues, and they go beyond just helping with recovery after an injury or surgery.
While most pet owners know that dog knee braces (also known as dog braces or knee braces for dogs) can help with ailments like a torn ACL or luxating patella, there are several lesser-known benefits that can significantly improve your dog’s life. Let’s dig deeper into the unique advantages of dog knee braces that many websites don’t highlight.
1. Prevention Before the Problem Arises
Many dog owners wait until their dog has suffered an injury to consider a knee brace. However, knee braces for dogs can be used as a preventive measure for breeds prone to knee issues. Breeds like Labradors, Bulldogs, and German Shepherds are often genetically predisposed to joint problems, including ligament tears and arthritis. The gentle support provided by a dog knee brace can reduce the risk of injury, especially in active dogs or seniors with declining mobility. This proactive approach can extend the years your dog spends being active, reducing the need for more invasive treatments later on.
2. Enhanced Mobility During Rehabilitation
After knee surgery or injury, a dog’s rehabilitation is crucial to full recovery. Traditional treatment often involves restricted movement, but that doesn’t mean your dog should stop moving entirely. Dog knee braces can provide the stability needed to help your dog safely increase mobility during recovery. A study by the Veterinary Orthopedic Institute shows that early rehabilitation with support from knee braces can actually shorten recovery times and improve overall outcomes in dogs with ACL injuries.
3. A Non-Surgical Option for Joint Pain Relief
Not all dogs with knee pain need surgery. Knee braces for dogs can act as a non-invasive alternative, especially for older dogs dealing with arthritis or early-stage joint degeneration. While surgery may be an option for advanced cases, a well-fitted dog knee brace can ease discomfort by limiting the range of motion and reducing pressure on the joint. Studies show that 60-70% of dogs with mild to moderate joint issues experience significant relief with a knee brace without requiring surgery.
4. Custom Fit for Every Dog’s Unique Needs
Not every dog’s knee issues are the same, which is why custom dog knee braces are becoming more popular. A personalized knee brace ensures your dog gets the precise support they need, whether it's stabilizing an injured ligament or protecting the knee from further stress. The custom design means the brace will fit comfortably, preventing irritation and promoting consistent use. For dogs recovering from surgery or with long-term joint issues, a custom fit can make all the difference in comfort and effectiveness.
5. Improved Quality of Life for Senior Dogs
Senior dogs often face joint degeneration, and as their knees wear down over time, the discomfort can lead to reluctance in movement. A knee brace for dogs can alleviate this pain, making walks more enjoyable and restoring some of that youthful spirit. For older dogs with conditions like arthritis, the ability to move with less pain can significantly improve their quality of life. A well-fitted dog brace also helps in maintaining muscle mass and joint flexibility, key factors for senior dogs’ overall health.
Conclusion: A Small Investment for Big Returns
Dog knee braces may seem like a simple solution, but their benefits are profound. Whether you’re trying to prevent injury, speed up recovery, or give your senior dog a chance at an active life, knee braces for dogs can make a real difference. From prevention to rehabilitation, a dog brace isn’t just for post-injury recovery; it’s a long-term investment in your dog's health and happiness.
So, before you resort to expensive surgery or limit your dog’s activities due to knee pain, consider a dog knee brace. It’s a small investment that can yield big returns in terms of your dog’s mobility and overall well-being.

Understanding the Need for Dog Leg Braces
Tumblr media
When Sarah’s usually energetic Border Collie, Bella, started limping after a run in the park, Sarah thought it was just a minor strain. But as the limp persisted, she realized something was wrong. After a vet visit, Sarah discovered Bella had a ligament tear in her leg. Surgery was one option, but her vet suggested another solution— a dog leg brace. This seemingly simple device turned out to be a game changer, helping Bella regain mobility and avoid surgery.
Dog leg braces are a growing solution for injuries, arthritis, and recovery in dogs. Yet, many dog owners don’t realize how beneficial these braces can be for their pets. Beyond just stabilizing the leg, canine leg braces offer emotional, psychological, and long-term health benefits that often go unnoticed.
What Is a Dog Leg Brace?
A dog leg brace is an orthopedic support device designed to stabilize a dog’s leg, typically after an injury or during the management of chronic conditions like arthritis. The brace works by limiting the range of motion, reducing pain, and allowing the muscles, tendons, and ligaments to heal without undue stress. Unlike more invasive treatments, braces are a non-surgical way to promote healing.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), approximately 20% of dogs in the U.S. over the age of one experience arthritis, which is one of the leading reasons for needing leg braces. While arthritis is a slow degenerative condition, dog leg braces provide support that can alleviate pressure on the affected joints, helping your dog stay mobile for longer.
Why Might Your Dog Need a Leg Brace?
There are various conditions and injuries that could lead to the need for a canine leg brace. Some of the most common reasons include:
Ligament Injuries: One of the most frequent leg injuries in dogs is a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear, which is comparable to an ACL injury in humans. This injury is particularly common in larger breeds like Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds, affecting around 1 in 5 dogs at some point in their lives.
Arthritis: As dogs age, their joints can become inflamed and painful. Dog leg braces help manage arthritis by supporting the joint and reducing the strain that leads to further discomfort.
Post-Surgery Recovery: After orthopedic surgery, such as a leg fracture repair or ligament repair, a brace can help stabilize the leg during recovery. By providing this external support, a brace helps prevent re-injury and allows for controlled movement.
Joint Instability: Some dogs are born with or develop joint instability, such as luxating patellas (dislocated kneecaps) or hip dysplasia. A canine leg brace can provide additional support to keep joints in place, especially for dogs too young for surgery.
The Hidden Benefits of Dog Leg Braces
While the physical support of a dog brace is the most obvious benefit, there are several other advantages that many dog owners don’t consider.
1. Preventing Further Injuries
When a dog suffers from a leg injury, they tend to shift their weight to the uninjured leg. This compensation can strain the healthy limb, increasing the risk of injuring the other leg. In fact, studies have shown that 50% of dogs with a CCL injury in one leg will likely suffer from the same injury in the other leg within two years. A dog leg brace helps evenly distribute weight and minimize the risk of further injuries.
2. Enhanced Mobility
Braces allow dogs to move around without the fear of worsening their injury. This is particularly important for dogs that need to stay active for their mental well-being. Dogs, especially energetic breeds like Bella, can become depressed and anxious when their movement is restricted. A brace offers them the freedom to move safely, reducing stress and frustration.
3. Improved Quality of Life for Senior Dogs
Senior dogs with arthritis or joint pain can experience a significant improvement in their quality of life with the help of a dog leg brace. While medication helps manage pain, the physical support from a brace helps relieve pressure on the joints and encourages gentle movement, which is crucial for maintaining muscle tone and joint flexibility in older dogs.
Custom vs. Off-the-Shelf Leg Braces
Not all dog braces are created equal. For long-term conditions or unique injuries, a custom leg brace designed specifically for your dog’s anatomy and condition offers superior support. Custom braces provide a better fit, reducing discomfort and the risk of the brace slipping or rubbing against the skin.
Off-the-shelf braces, while more affordable, may not offer the same level of comfort or support. It’s essential to consult with your veterinarian to determine which option is best for your dog’s specific needs.
Final Thoughts: The Power of Support
For dogs like Bella, a dog leg brace can be the difference between a long recovery or a speedy return to playtime. Whether your dog is recovering from surgery, dealing with arthritis, or facing an injury, a canine leg brace provides the support needed for healing and mobility.
If your dog is struggling with a leg injury or joint pain, speak with your vet about the benefits of a dog leg brace. It might just be the tool that keeps your furry friend active and happy for years to come.

Optimizing ACL Rehabilitation: A Research-Based Guide to Faster Recovery
Recovering from an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injury can be a challenging journey, but with the right approach, it’s possible to get back on your feet faster than you might think. Our research of a patient, a 29-year-old male, who underwent ACL reconstruction surgery along with other associated injuries, sheds light on a groundbreaking rehabilitation protocol that is revolutionizing the recovery process for ACL surgery patients.
Understanding the Rehabilitation Protocol
Our patient’s rehabilitation journey was carefully structured into distinct phases, each with specific goals aimed at promoting optimal recovery. In the initial phase (Day 1 – 14 Post Op), the focus was on protecting the graft, reducing swelling and pain, and restoring patellar mobility and full extension gradually. As he progressed into the second phase (3-5 weeks after surgery), the emphasis shifted towards maintaining and restoring full range of motion, normalizing gait, and incorporating joint proprioception training.
Innovative Rehabilitation Strategies
What sets this rehabilitation protocol apart is its integration of innovative strategies designed to accelerate recovery. Virtual Reality (VR) and Technology-Assisted Rehabilitation played a crucial role in engaging the patient more actively in his rehabilitation process. By providing real-time feedback and enhancing motivation, these technologies helped expedite the recovery process significantly. Additionally, biomechanical assessment tools were utilized to monitor and analyze the patient’s movement patterns comprehensively, guiding the development of tailored rehabilitation programs. Moreover, a strong emphasis was placed on patient education and engagement, empowering the patient to take ownership of his recovery journey.
Early Discharge and Lasting Results
After just 17 days of intensive rehabilitation, our patient consulted with his surgeon and received clearance to start early weight-bearing using a knee brace. With good strength, knee joint stability, and renewed confidence, he was discharged, ready to resume his near-normal lifestyle. This rapid progress underscores the effectiveness of the accelerated rehabilitation protocol in promoting faster recovery without compromising stability or graft integrity.
Research Backs It Up
Our findings are supported by research data, which consistently demonstrates that patients in accelerated rehabilitation programs return to normal function and athletic activities sooner than those in conventional rehabilitation programs. Moreover, comparative data from large systematic studies show that accelerated rehabilitation regimens achieve comparable outcomes in terms of range of motion, strength, and function, without compromising stability or graft integrity.
Our research highlights the transformative potential of an intensive rehabilitation approach in accelerating ACL recovery. By integrating innovative strategies and leveraging advancements in technology, we can optimize the rehabilitation process and empower patients to achieve faster, more sustainable recovery outcomes.
Disclaimer:
While our research provides valuable insights into ACL recovery, it’s essential to recognize that the field of medicine is constantly evolving. For the most current information and guidance regarding ACL reconstruction surgery and rehabilitation, it’s always advisable to consult with your healthcare provider.

Meniscus Repair or Meniscectomy/ meniscus partial excision/ meniscus trimming: What all one should know
Each knee joint has two semilunar shaped cartilage structures in the knee joint called medial and lateral meniscus. Primary function of a meniscus is to act like a shock absorber and distribute the forces towards the periphery of the knee joint. Thus primary function of the meniscal cartilages is to protect the knee from early wear and tear. So meniscus tear should be ideally repaired by using a meniscus tear protocol. See Figure 1.
A meniscus injury can occur in day to day activities like getting up from a sittiing position from a sofa/ chair or floor. But the more common cause of a meniscal injury is in sports like football/ basketball/ volleyball etc. Many a times the meniscus tear is a part of the other injuries in the knee like ACL tear or other ligament tears.
A torn meniscus leads to symtoms of pain/ locking/ catching and feeling of giving way of the knee. If a torn meniscus is inside the knee, it keeps on scratching the joint surfaces of the knee which further leads to reducing the life of the joint. So a torn meniscus should either be repaired or a torn part of meniscus be trimmed to avoid scratching.
The diagnosis of a meniscus tear is by clinical examination and confirmed with MRI. MRI is a highly sensitive investigation which has a potential of overdiagnosis of meniscal tears so a clinical examination should also be perofmed to corroborate the findings of each other.
If a meniscus is a part of a ligament injury, the first priority should always be the treatment of the ligament injury otherwise the meniscus surgery alone will most like retear the meniscus due to an unstable knee caused by untreated ligament injury.
The treatment of meniscus tear is either partial meniscectomy/ trimming or repair of the meniscus. Meniscus repair has gained popularity in the last 8–10 years due to availability of commercial meniscus sutures. The cost of meniscus repair by these commercial sutures is high because each suture usually costs around 25–30 thousand rupees and the number of sutures required for repair depend on the extent of the tear and can range from one suture to even 8–9 sutures thus adding the cost of each suture multiplied by the number of sutures used for repair. Furthermore, each menicus tear is not repairable because the meniscus has blood supply in only its periphery called red part of meniscus, and there is no blood supply in the central part called white part of meniscus. The healing of a meniscus repair will only take place if the tear is present in the red part of the meniscus. The tear in the white part of the meniscus should not be repaired as it is never going to heal.
Another important fact that must be known that in successful ideal case of a repair meniscus in the red zone, the chances of re tear of the meniscus in the next 5 years is around 20–25%. That means in 20–25% cases of a success ful repaired meniscus are likely to need another surgery for meniscus tear in the next 5 years.
Another important fact is that after repair of a meniscus, patient walks with a walker or crutches for around 6 weeks and then gradually will regain is sports activities, while in case of trimming/ partial meniscectomy, patient starts walkiing without any support on the very next day of surgery and can go back to sports activities as soon as his pain permits it which is usually 3- 4 weeks.
The other treatment is partial meniscectomy or trimming or balancing of torn meniscus. In this procedure, the surgeon will partially trim the torn part so that it stops scratching the joint surface. This treatment is offered ideally in those patients whose meniscus in unrepairable due to tear being in white zone. Sometimes, the high end professional players also opt for trimming of the meniscus intentionally to return to the game earlier and to avoid a second surgery in the next 5 years, in case they fall in 20- 25% cases of failed repair. Sometimes in complex tear, the procedure of trimming is combined with repair, where after minor trimming of a complex tear, the remaing part is repaired.
The treatment of partial meniscectomy or trimming is also sometimes offered in those patients who can not afford the cost of commericial sutures. Nowadays, many patients have apprehensions that after trimming of a torn meniscus, there knee will be completely destroyed. This is not the case ever. Although meniscus is an important protective tissue for the health of the knee, it is not that the knee will stop function and will be destroyed in next few years. The medical literature after doing comparative studies between meniscectomy patients and repair patients, have observed that in the long term health of the knee some percentage of meniscectomy patients degenerate the knees a bit faster than the non meniscectomy patients.

On Injuries
I got an IT band injury while training a little over two weeks ago.
It may have seemed random at the time, but my body had been firing warning signals for well over a month: fatigue, stress, poor training performance on deadlifts – everything I had been ignoring cascaded into a painful pop while finishing up my last warm up. All things considered, it was pretty remarkable that it took 10 months of programmed powerlifting training for me to finally injure my right knee, the same joint that had gone through two reconstructive surgeries between 2017 and 2019. These were surgeries that resulted from me ignoring warning signs during competitive soccer for years, finally coalescing into a destroyed MCL, meniscus and ACL (aka the terrible triad) and effectively capping any possible athletic progression in soccer or rock climbing, sports that I still love. My athletic background, physical therapy, and supportive husband eventually led me to start powerlifting as a relatively older athlete, so getting injured was always inevitable. Despite this first semi-serious injury, I can still train and compete in less than a month, and I’m physically and financially able to access training facilities, powerlifting equipment, and health care centers as needed.
Yet, as oftentimes with any injury, logic and reality don’t always prevent depression from sinking in.
Depression only lasted briefly because I readily admitted it as an issue 2 days after the initial injury. I have a medical history of depression, and years of therapy have helped me develop a personal protocol for when it hits – the first step being acknowledging that it’s happening to begin with. To deny depression would be turning away from the underlying  issue driving it, just like denying an open wound needs cleaning and bandaging could lead to an infection or sepsis.
Once I admitted this reality to myself and others, it allowed me the opportunity to reflect more honestly about the situation and without judgement: Why was I depressed? Why had I ignored my body firing warning signals for a month? Why did I feel so ashamed, angry, frustrated? Why was I training as hard as I was if the end result was less than what I had hoped for?
The answer hit me after completing my first post-injury secondary top set and seeing a fellow athlete and friend cheer me on.
I had gotten hurt because I’d become obsessed with qualifying for nationals at my upcoming meet, and I had forgotten why I started powerlifting to begin with. I’d been so preoccupied chasing numbers instead of focusing on what my body needed until it gave out in protest, and I’d inadvertently wrapped my own self worth in lifting numbers high enough to put me in the top 5% of powerlifters less than a year of actually doing the sport. I was ashamed at the numbers I was lifting, frustrated at the new jolts of pain, and angry that I was suddenly scared and couldn’t push myself hard anymore. Most notably, powerlifting training had quietly shifted from the joy of progress to a myopic end goal of being ‘the best’, no matter what toll it took on my body or psyche.
It took seeing a friend happily cheering me on to realize how dumb I’d been for a month, and how lucky I was to actually get injured at this moment.
Getting injured forced me to slow down and reevaluate not only my own reasons for powerlifting, but to see if there were any adjustments needed to set up and tech for squat, bench or deadlift, and then to implement and practice those changes. (Spoiler: they all needed adjustments.) Injury also provided an opportunity to self-reflect and revisit why I chose powerlifting 9 months ago, and why I continue choosing the sport instead of walking away. I have a life outside of the sport, so why keep going?
It’s simple really: I powerlifting because it brings me immense joy, and it’s an incredible privilege to be able to do so.
Powerlifting is a relatively niche sport that can be out of reach for many. Whether it’s physical capabilities (eg can you do a body weight squat without pain or impingement?), availability of equipment and/or training facilities, or even financial means to afford equipment and coaches, powerlifting can have a high barrier of entry for most people. Even for current powerlifting athletes, overtraining, programing issues or pure bad luck can result in injuries that may not heal as fast due to lack of healthcare resources or a lack of proficient clinicians who know how to diagnose and treat such injuries.
I cannot emphasize enough how incredibly privileged and lucky I am to be physically capable of performing squats, benches and deadlifts properly; to have access and be able to afford training facilities, coaches, and lifting equipment; to have access to an amazing wealth of information and feedback on training, tech, and performance through my coaches, husband, friends, and the internet; to know enough about medicine and the healthcare field where I can navigate and access services if needed; to be married to the most loving, supportive, and knowledgeable man in this world who also happens to be an excellent physical therapist; and to be able to train around people physically, mentally, emotionally, and psychologically stronger than me in the powerlifting community, people that I have the privilege of calling friends. Powerlifting is a choice, and I choose to do it because I’m lucky enough to be able to enjoy the process and find joy in growing with other athletes I respect and admire. Everything else – qualifying totals, world records, numbers – is just extra. The fact that I’m knocking on the door of a qualifying total for nationals less than a year into powerlifting (eg I only learned how to low bar squat in July of last year, and I only learned how to bench in April 2023) with a compromised right knee and left ankle is, for all sakes and purposes, kind of ridiculous.
Injuries are never easy, and they certainly shouldn’t be ignored. I got lucky with my most recent one, and I certainly won’t ignore the lessons this episode provided. Resetting to my core values lifted a huge weight off of my chest, and I’m excited to compete instead of dreading the possibility of not getting a qualifying total. I’m looking forward to how much more I grow instead of focusing on how my numbers compare with others.
Most importantly: this most recent injury showed me the importance of being around people who understand and support you, especially when you’re not feeling the greatest. Getting messages and being asked in person from friends and family about how I was doing did wonders for my mental health, and I still get rather emotional thinking about how caring everyone has been. While powerlifting is technically an individual sport, I’d argue it’s truly a collective sport where you’re only as good as the people and environment around you. In my case, I’m truly surrounded by some of the best out there including my husband, friends and family.
This injury has allowed me to rehab my relationship with powerlifting, and I’m grateful I still get to keep growing with everyone – heavy circles and all.
(See you all out there on the platform in a few weeks!)
