a few people expressed confusion when I was talking about Belphie's colouration earlier, so I'll break it down into layers. here is how you make a Belphegor:

step 1: take a solid black cat

step 2: add the silver modifier (in non-tabby cats, this is called 'smoke' and will add ghost tabby markings and a silver undercoat)

step 3: add white spotting

step 4: add siamese-type pointing (black pointed cats are called 'seal points')

step 5: add Devon Rex fur (in kittens his age, this means lots of bald spots)

and ta da! now you have a Belphegor - a seal smoke point with white!

Welcome to the world, Hopalong Gang! This morning, between 5 and 7 (Central time), Meander gave birth to SIX tiny kittens. We have what appears to be 4 Siamese mix, 1 orange tabby, and 1 that looks to be a buff (but could be a Siamese mix - it's not dry yet, so we shall see.) I am pretty sure that she's done. All the kittens are vigorous and nursing, and Meander hasn't stopped purring.

Meander politely asked me to give them some peace and quiet (a very polite growl, and then she looked a little embarrassed) so I'm leaving them alone for a few hours. I do need to get in there to look them over more closely and weigh them (and the meezers marked so that I can tell them apart), but there's no rush.

Fact #5: All colorpoint cats are born white.

Colorpoint just refers to the pattern most people associate with breeds like siamese, ragdoll, birman, etc as well as cats like Tonkinese.(tonkinese vs siamese are caused by two alleles and the same locus- in non-genetics talk; two genes that are different but related.)

Kittens are born essentially pure white, and more color is developed on their "points"; i.e. extremities, Nose, ears, tail, paws as they grow older.

This is because the colorpoint(and related) gene(s) are what's called temperature sensitive; there's really cool science behind this that I won't get into here(also so I can double check all my terminology) but if you want to know more about that- feel free to shoot me an ask!

he was a siamese-tabby mix (assumed! submitter only knew his mother), and they got him when they were about 5 years old, and he was just a kitten. they got him alongside of his sister, and he was the quieter of the two, so submitter used to joke that she did all the talking for them both, even tho he started meowing himself when his sister died. he passed in 2020, after 17 long and peaceful years. he was submitter's baby for all of those, and theyve never met a cat that they loved more than him <3 sweet boy

LAVENDER

A very soft black cat with big yellow eyes and knife sharp claws, who couldn't kill a fly if she tried (she's tried. it was cute to watch, but it got away) but can and will knead your skin until it bleeds! Also she carries her worm on a string toy (the clear string was cut off for safety) in her mouth like either her baby or her prey (submitter can't tell!) when she wants to play. She is loud. and keeps submitter sane enough to function.

Business at the hospital had picked up recently. It felt like everyday there was an emergency patient coming in. Some were established patients and some were walk-ins. Chopper had finished his short training at the reception desk and was now doing the rest of his externship in internal medicine with Dr. Newgate. Needless to say, you were feeling a little overwhelmed with work.

At least Azul was doing better with her physical therapy and coming to work with you everyday. She got plenty of attention and exercise.

This particular day was no different. The phone was ringing off the hook, emails were piling up and you'd had two emergency walk-ins, the second of which was crashing when they entered the building.

You made a stat page and ran around the desk taking the cat from the client to get him to the treatment area or a technician - whichever you made it to first. Bepo came bounding out of IMed and swept the carrier out of your hands.

“Distressed breathing!” Was all you managed to get out before the mink was running back to treatment.

You turned back to the frantic elderly woman that brought him in. Betty was an established client. Her kitty Stevie had been coming to the practice to be treated by Dr. Newgate long before your time at Phoenix Rising.

Stevie had a multitude of medical issues that had Betty stopping in to fill medications at least every other week. He was an elderly flame point Siamese that she rescued in an alley when he was just a kitten.

“I've never seen him like this.” She cried as you wrapped your arms around her.

“It's alright, Dr. Newgate is looking at him now. We'll take good care of him.” You rubbed her back and guided her into an exam room to calm down.

After getting her seated you took a box of tissues from the cabinet and placed it in the chair next to her. Betty wiped her eyes and adjusted her glasses as she told you how she'd found Stevie twelve years ago. He was a feral kitten and in many ways still was. He didn't like being handled, even by Betty. You'd heard this story many times before, but nodded along like it was the first time because it calmed her down. As she was nearing the end of her tale Bepo stepped into the room.

“I'm sorry,” he nodded toward you, “Dr. Newgate will be in shortly. I just needed to get some information from Mrs. Daniels.”

“Sure,” you turned to Betty, “I'll be at reception if you need anything.”

Using the back door of the exam room you stepped into the treatment area to see Marco closing the door to the oxygen kennel where he'd placed Stevie. The blonde shook his head as he approached.

“Can you please get the euthanasia paperwork ready for him? I'm going to have a tough conversation with Betty-yoi.”

“There's nothing you can do?” You frowned.

“Even I have limits F/N,” he smiled softly, “we've talked about this.”

Dr. Newgate happened to possess a very special devil fruit. Not many knew about it - having a devil fruit was still fairly taboo. Most people with devil fruits had ties to the great pirate era. Though that time was mostly over, you definitely didn't want the government to know if you had one. Those who were known were documented and kept track of. You weren't entirely sure in what capacity, since you yourself didn't have one, but you'd never tell on those who did.

Marco used his power sparingly at work. He'd told you many times that death was a fate he couldn't change. Small wounds and minor illnesses were one thing, bringing a patient from the fringes of the afterlife was another. You hadn't seen him use the fruit in its full glory but you'd heard stories from his brothers, Ace and Thatch.

There was a reason the hospital was called Phoenix Rising.

Once you had the paperwork ready you reentered the exam room to speak to Betty. Part of your job, unfortunately, was helping clients make the most difficult but most humane decisions for their pets. Humane euthanasia allowed them to say goodbye with dignity and end their suffering. It had been hard for you at first but over the years you'd developed the simplest, most comforting way to go over after care.

After choosing a cremation package and urn, more fond stories and tears you had Bepo bring Stevie in for his final goodbye. Betty thanked you for finally giving her the closeness his feral nature never allowed and you stepped out of the room into the treatment area. Taking a deep breath you pushed back tears.

“I don't envy you for that,” Shachi stepped away from the doctors as they were rounding in a departmental transfer.

“You're the ones that do the hard part.” You stood at one of the computers to input Stevie’s aftercare information.

“People are the hard part.” He chuckled, patting your shoulder, “Coffee is on me later, ok?”

“Sure, thanks.” You nodded offering a small smile.

“Shouldn't you be prepping the next case, Shachi?” Dr. Trafalgar called sternly.

“I'm going, I'm going.” The redhead muttered heading back to the surgery wing.

“Are they ready for me to go back in-yoi?” Dr. Newgate stepped away from the surgeon.

“Give her ten minutes, she's happy to hold him for a while.”

Marco palmed your shoulder as he moved past you, “I'll check on her in a bit then.”

It was hard to say how you felt after guiding a client through that process. Sometimes it was joyous - a celebration of life. This time the rest of your shift would definitely be somber.

Goodbyes are always hard, even when you're a bystander.

The day carried on at a pace you didn't much care for. When your break finally rolled around you decided to take it outside. The weather had cooled down quite a bit, so you sat bundled up on a blanket in a patch of grass across the parking lot from the clinic with Azul curled up in your lap. It was a calm cloudy day, your favorite. You quietly enjoyed your sandwich and rubbed Azul’s ears taking the time to relax and reset.

A warm to-go coffee cup sat on your desk with your initials scrolled across. It wasn't from Sanji’s Café, so you knew it wasn't from Dr. Newgate. Shachi must've made good on his promise. As you picked it up to take a drink the redhead stepped into the lobby with a cup of his own in hand.

“What the heck F/N? I wasn't kidding when I said coffee was on me today.” He held up the cup with Sanji's logo.

“I thought this was from you?” You looked at him confused.

“So you didn't?”

“Nope. Maybe Dr. Newgate stopped somewhere else on his way back from lunch today.” You murmured, analyzing the cup in your hand.

“He hasn't left property today.” He frowned, “I told Penguin I was getting you some - he's probably trolling me.”

“Well, it's not like I won't accept the one you got me.” You chuckled, “I can put it in the fridge and have it tomorrow. Or the way today is going, maybe a little later on.”

“Oh,” he perked up, “I guess that's true. I'll put it away for you.”

Business continued as usual after lunch. Things stayed steady enough to keep your mind off the morning. It was one of the few days you couldn't wait to clock out. A cold beer, a book and puppy snuggles were waiting to cure you from the stress of the day. When that time finally came you made your way back to the ward in the surgery wing to get your girl.

She roamed around in the ward while you cleaned out and wiped down the kennel she'd spent the day in.

“You're as ready to go home as I am huh, sweet girl?”

You stepped on the lever that lifted the lid to the aluminum trash can in the corner of the room, eyes going wide as you caught sight of the coffee cup sitting in the bottom of the bin. It matched the one that had been left at your desk after lunch but the initials on the cup were L.D.T.

Sector QT Headcanons!

Cyrus has a crush on an operative named Everleigh/Numbuh 90. He stutters and stammers a lot when he's talking to her.

Paloma is an avid Rainbow Monkey collector and even collects retro Rainbow Monkeys.

Monroe knows all the songs and lyrics of High School Musical, High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

Judy is probably the only kid in the entire world who enjoys eating vegetables (even broccoli if you put some seasoning on it, it mostly doesn't taste like garbage).

Dee sometimes go on solo missions along with the pets of Sector QT. Though during their missions, they have to deal with the Well-Mannered/Wild Kids' pet cats and their team.

Before joining the Kids Next Door, Sector QT made their own little treehouse and tried to help kids in their neighborhood (with very little success).

There was a past Sector QT but after the operatives were decommissioned, the sector hadn't been used since until now. Some speculate that the reason the sector wasn't active might have something to do with a serious incident that happened within the sector. But that's just a rumor....right?

Cyrus, Paloma and Monroe have known each since they were 5 and met Judy and Dee when they were 9.

The kids go to Marble Valley Elementary School.

The Supreme Leader of the Kids Next Door is Numbuh 1,000 who everyone, including Sector QT, admires and adores since he's a pretty big deal in the KND.

Sector QT likes to watch old cartoon shows like from Hanna-Barbera.

Sector QT's other pets involve the hamsters, a Dalmatian puppy named Clue, a Siamese kitten named Pearl, a hamster named Iris, a deer named Deidre, a moose named Tyrone, and three fishes named Ariel, Betta and Captain. They're also Dee's friends and go on animal adventures/missions with him.

Cat update!

I fear that this may be admitting defeat, but perhaps having 5 cats -- particularly these 5 cats -- may be too much for even our cat-loving family.

The new cats, Daphne and Apollo, are a Siemese bonded pair and are very sweet, but Mugi (white cat above) seems determined to wipe them off the face of this earth. We keep the Siamese cats in a separate room, but Mugi downright stalks the door to said room, and if, goodness forbid, we are not fast or careful enough coming in and out, she will rocket in and engage in a violent tussle with the two Siamese, to the point of injuries -- superficial cuts, but nonetheless significant.

As I said before, nothing could have predicted this. Mugi joined our household as a kitten and did well with the cats that were here before her except for the occasional play-fighting, but the newcomers seem to have brought out something vile in her.

In addition, Apollo and Daphne aren't doing the best either -- Apollo's having litterbox problems, probably because he is afraid of Mugi, and I haven't seen Daphne in days because she keeps hiding under the bed, though I suspect this is because she had a dental procedure and is recovering.

Mr. Nisilë wants to keep trying different things, such keeping the new cats in a room with a screen door, Feliway, and even medicating Mugi, but it's already been a month, and it seems like things are not getting any better, only worse. I am very much saddened by all of this -- I love Mugi, and I love the new Siamese cats as well. They're so sweet, and they love to sit on my chest and my stomach and purr, and they self-initiate cuddles, which the other cats hardly ever do, even after all these years. I don't want to rehome any of the cats, but if this keeps up, we are going to have to.

So Much Happening

Okay, so in the petz community there's

Witzy's Showing Challenge - which I've already earned enough points for stamps, and I'm back up to 35 points which is enough to claim a Mystery Petz Box (5 petz) (20 points) or a Hexed Rainbow Palette Dane. (25 points). But the thing was supposed to get people to start showing, so I feel a little bad claiming things besides the stamps because I was already showing. The danes don't feel like a have-to-have but I'm also worried about FOMO (fear of missing out).

Duke Group's Fall Festival is going on, and while I am participating in the box trap and the apple bobbing, and I've already done the wordsearch and guessed for the items in the jar. I want to do the baking thing by Bunni because her Russian Blue hexes are adorable but I just haven't had the spoons.

Whiskerwick has the Trick or Treat thing going, and I need to make a "house" picture of some kind for it. And stuff to give out! I've got a litter of black and orange cats, but I'd like to have some stamps for the event too.

Petz Life has the Advent Prep that I'd like to make stuff for too, but it's a bit intimidating because people are talking about donating hundreds of litters and so many hexed pets. I'm still doing small stuff, and most of the litters I select about 4 or so pups or kittens from. I think they said something like 7-14 pets in a litter? I don't even know what the Advent thing is, but it seems like it's time based first-serve sort of thing and apparently things go really quickly?

In the more personal side of things

October sucks. We lost my Eowyn on 10/9/21 and her brother Jet on 10/21/23.

We recently learned our next oldest cat, Salem (he just turned 14) still has elevated thyroid levels even on a high dose of medication morning and night. Tomorrow we go to a Internal Medicine vet to see what might be done for him. And he's got a lump on his head. (Eowyn had cancer on her head/in her nose which started as a little lump on her forehead.) but Salem's lump is bony, so I've just had something else to worry about for two weeks since his last vet appointment and (we noticed the lump the day after his appointment).

I told my husband that if we loose another cat in October, we're just not going to acknowledge the month anymore. It'll be August-September-September-November. I don't care if the days don't line up. Just no more Octobers.

Some facts about Zac Which you may or may not know!:

1. He turned down a big record deal.

Jesse McCartney said Zac turned down a record deal, with six zeros attached to the end of it (huge $ offer) Due to his preference for acting. The deal wanted him to put out a solo album. Not sure how many offers he got, but it is known Simon Cowell of all people wanted to sign Zac.

Additionally it was Zac’s love for singing that opened the door for him into the acting world.

2. He knows how to play the piano.

Growing up Zac has mentioned a few times very briefly that he knows how to play the piano extremely well. He took piano lessons as a kid, and it was his piano teacher who took notice of how talented he was and helped aspire his parents to get him involved in auditioning for roles.

3. Taylor Swift herself taught him how to play guitar.

Even though he knew how to play piano quite well, Zac said he struggled with learning how to play the guitar. He stated his previous attempts have all been failures and nobody could teach him. Up until Taylor Swift of all people (who he calls a legend) volunteered to teach him. Since being taught by Taylor, Zac continued working on his guitar skills and has said he knows how to play almost every song with the four chords Taylor taught him. One of his go to songs he learned to play is Santeria. All thanks to Taylor Swift for being an incredible guitar teacher, according to Zac.

One thing a lot of people don’t know about Zac is his interest in songwriting, or rapping. While working on his comedy film, ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’ Zac wrote (and is credited on) for writing ‘Stang Life’ which is an offical sound track song for the film. Zac additionally raps on the track. The lyrics are understandable if you watch the film, as it’s film-based inspired lyrics. Zac also co-wrote his collaboration parody duet with Taylor Swift and wrote Vanessa Hudgens a song for her birthday.

6. He likes to write poems, and loves to paint & draw which he does really well.

A Zac fact that most people don’t know but something he mentions often is his love for poetry & painting/drawing which he is good at.

His (now removed, or faded) feather tattoo on his bicep was actually designed (drawn) by entirely him. Which he once mentioned in an interview.

Quote: “I actually designed it (tattoo). I like to sketch - it’s my favourite medium. I’ve done drawings and paintings for girls, but mostly I do comic books. Sometimes it’s just nice to put thought.”

7. He is super nerdy which was a big shock to Zendaya.

In an interview while doing press for The Greatest Showman, Zendaya shared her first impressions on Zac. She never expected that Zac would be what she calls a “super nerd” since he’d go on telling her about Stranger Things, which he’d passionately deep dive about. Growing up, Zac wasn’t the popular kid in school, and sometimes bullied. Although he did community theatre which was an escape for him. His teacher once described him as “shy and quiet” and spoke about his passion and determination for acting.

8. He did extremely well in school growing up, with high grades and never slacked off. Leading him to be accepted into the University of Southern California (USC) & University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)

Pretty self explanatory. Zefron is very smart, especially since USC has a very low acceptance rate. Always has been. Zac not only was a top performer in arts but also academically. Friends of his past said he would take studying very seriously since he doesn’t slack off anything he does.

9. He is a huge animal lover! Who grew up with his Siamese cat Simon, and two dogs, Dreamer and Puppy.

This one is a more obvious fact! Since there are plenty of interactions with animals, since he is a big time animal lover. One of the very first pets he owned was a kitten he called ‘Cucko Kitty’ it was a kitten Zac found as a stray & rescued.

10. He played on a baseball team while growing up and has a signed baseball from Dusky Baker.

Before he got into theatre, and singing & dancing. Baseball was one of the sports Zac would play growing up! Dusky Baker is also one of the players who signed his ball when Zac was only a kid. Promising after 35 minutes he’d return from church to sign it, which he did.

11. He had a very large gap between his teeth while growing up, and has a whole lot of freckles!

His gap may be fixed nowadays! But time to time when he doesn’t wear his retainers his signature gap between his teeth makes a small comeback! Other than the bright eyes and gap, Zac also has a freckles all over his nose and freckles on his cheeks too.
