Hi! First off, I have never watched Games of Thrones in my life. Then, all of a sudden, YouTube recommended the Jorah/Daenerys pairing in my recommendations (I kid you not) and in a matter of hours, I became obsessed. I started seeking out fanvideos, gleaning plot info bit by bit, and it just made me ship them harder (again, I hardly have any GoT knowledge whatsoever - just a basic understanding of the show's premise and so forth). Being a fanfic writer myself, I turned to A03 for consolation and found your fic, Jamais T'oublier. In a word, your writing for this pairing is beautiful. It's a wonderful example of how you well understand these characters, and I truly felt your love for them. I guess I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for sharing your writing. I've been in a dark place with my own writing (for another show/pairing and my original work), and your fic was a light shining into that darkness. I'm so grateful I found your work!

How many works do you have on AO3?

I'll use my FFN stats since I'm not transferring everything from there over to AO3. Fic count on FFN is 204, though that's not including the ones I archive privately, so technically the number of fics I've posted is 253.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

Again, going on FFN word count since that's where everything is. That stands at over two million: 2,197,752.

HOWEVER, I also have a further 817,563 words of fics privately archived, so in actuality I've hit the three million mark: 3,015,315! I knew I must be climbing up there, but I had no idea that I'd surpassed it, so that made me happy!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

5. Do you respond to comments?

On FFN, yes, since it's done via PM. On AO3, no. I really appreciate all comments, but I despise that it counts my response, and I won't inflate my comment count. But of course I read each one.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

One of my suuuuuper old Pokémon fics, Twisted. It's sooooo bad. Young teen Dan was dark and depressed. If I didn't think it was important to leave everything up to show progression, I'd delete it and pretend it never existed.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Nearly all of my fics have happy endings because I mostly write fluffy oneshots, so pretty much take your pick.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I did once have a comment on a Dany/Jorah fic which had nothing to do with the fic and just hated on the ship, which I rolled my eyes hard at. What is the point in seeking out something you don't like? Weirdo behaviour. And, you know, it was from a Dany/Jon stan, so...people in glass houses and all that.

9. Do you write smut?

I do. Not as often as I used to, but when the mood strikes. Most of my smut scenes/fics are archived privately, though.

10. Do you write crossovers?

No. I did extensive planning for one once, but the crossover universe was mostly just there as background. Whether I ever get around to actually writing it remains to be seen, but I wouldn't write another because I have no real interest.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Someone once asked wayyyyy back in 2012 if they could translate one of my fics, but I don't know if that ever happened. And I deleted it to archive privately, so probably not, LOL.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not! I'm not sure if I'd be any good at it, I'd feel the pressure!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Well, it's been over twelve years since I wrote my first Anna/Bates fic, and I still write a little bit for them most days (just a slow and steady process). I still love all of my old ships, but Anna/Bates has had the longevity to endure almost nine years after the end of the show (I don't count the movies because they're whatever), and they're still so, so special to me. <3

(Although I do spend most of my time these days completely fixated on Suki/Eve because MY GOD, that ship has completely altered my brain chemistry.)

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

It's not a 'doubt I ever will' thing just yet, because I am still very much writing Anna/Bates fic, but I have one in particular that I haven't touched in six years where the final line of the penultimate chapter has lived rent-free in my head for all that time...I've just never committed it to paper yet, and I'm still a couple of chapters away from it.

But I finally finished the bonus chapter of Made of Starlight [Downton Abbey, Anna/Bates] seven years after posting the final chapter on FFN, so there's every chance I'll pick it back up in the near future.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I don't think I'm particularly good at anything, but if I had to pick something...Dialogue, maybe? I always have lots of fun with characters interacting with each other, anyway, regardless of whether it's good or not.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Description. I feel like it's often clunky and not evocative enough.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I used to write it in italicised English. Nowadays, if a character is speaking to another in a language they both understand, I'll still do this, but if it's from the POV of a character who doesn't understand it, I'll write it in the other language but try to do the HTML on AO3 where hovering over it on desktop will give the English translation. For example, this was pivotal for the fourth chapter of Vivat Crescat Floreat, since the whole point of the chapter was supposed to be Tyrion's frustration at not knowing what the hell Daenerys and Jorah were talking about. It would not have worked if the audience could read the Common Tongue right off the bat, but the hovering at least gives the audience the context that Tyrion does not have.

I don't bother on FFN since hardly anyone uses that site anymore, haha.

Of course, the only language that I do know is English, so I have to rely on translate for other languages...which, let's face it, can be horrendously inaccurate.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Pokémon. I don't keep up with the anime much these days, but I'm always there for a new game, haha.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I don't really do favourites because I'm mostly just meh about what I've written, but I'll always have a soft spot for A Meeting of Fates, purely because it was the first multi-chaptered fic that I ever finished.

Lost in Balms [Downton Abbey, Anna/Bates, privately archived] is one I had a lot of fun with. I started it in April 2017 and completed it July 2023, but during all that time I had such a clear image of how I wanted the climax to go down. I actually wrote the fic in an entirely linear fashion, so thinking of that one scene kept me going for five years until I actually reached it, and it was one of the most satisfying things to write because of how long it had taken for me to get there.

And not a fic mention per se, but the fourth 'chapter' of And Beauty There Echoes the Speck of Our Souls [EastEnders, Suki/Eve] gave me all the feels to think about and write. I wrote it at a time where I was struggling with Suki and Eve's breakup in canon, and it brought me great comfort to focus on. And another Suki/Eve fic that I'm working on right now is giving me the same warm fuzzies because it's something I desperately want at some point in the future. <3

Hello, CS crew!! I come today with an event idea that has been tossed around in the discord server I run. (originally used for a different event >> CSMM) Okay, the new event  (Captain Swan Co-Storytellers Collaboration) would consist of groups of 3-4 people working together to write a captain swan story.  This is not a one person writes one part and passes on the document and so on until it reaches its end. No, this would be the ultimate team effort in an ensemble of amazing writers! Of course there are details to be ironed out but I wanted to know if anyone here was interested to join. I will share the form to get an idea of who is interested and for a way to contact anyone that wants to join in on the fun. As soon as I can I will reach out to you.

Her expectations have come to pass. However, now that the anticipation is over, every fiber of her being blazes like a stoked furnace.

She was correct. He wants her gone. And he will force his way to get what he wants.

Among the other council members, Marco seems the most shocked. “You wish to discharge Miss Swan? On what grounds?”

 Spencer crosses his arms over his chest. “She is inadequate.”

“Inadequate? How?” Pastor Hopper adjusts his spectacles. “I have heard much praise from the children’s parents. After all, she passed the probation period, and it has only been several months since she began her post. Rome was not built in a day. We should give her some time.”

“Time? And money, I presume?  My money.” Spencer’s voice hardens. “I know that the townspeople contributed what they could to the funds reserved for her salary. Please let me remind you that more than half of those funds were my donation. I refuse to waste more of them on a person who does not know what she is doing!”

“You do not say how she has failed,” Marco argues. It warms her heart to see him rise to her defense, but it also worries her. A powerful, resourceful man is a dangerous enemy. “I see happy faces come from her schoolhouse. She is patient and understanding.”

“You are a witness, are you?” he fires back. “Do tell, sir - have you ever set foot in that place while class was in session? No? Well, I have, and I do not second your account. This, then, is a secondhand tale from whom? Your son?”

August jumps to his feet. “You have no right to criticize Emma. She has been a saint, working every day without complaint.”

Spencer laughs. “Is that your definition of good work? Discipline? It means nothing if the quality of the work is poor and lacking. But I am not surprised. Perhaps that is why you and your wood carvings are still in Storybrooke and not the city.”

August marches up to the platform until he is right in front of the man, face to face. His hands are clenched into fists and his jaw is tight. “Perhaps. Perhaps that is also why you are rarely here. If people were to see more of you, you might not be mayor for much longer.”

“Is that a threat, carpenter?”

“A promise. I am not an aggressive man.”

“Neither am I. And I always deliver on my promises.”

The air is taut as a bowstring, ready to snap back. She can stand it no longer. 

“Excuse me, gentlemen.” She passes by both of them and reaches the town council. “Being at the center of this debate, I feel I should address these accusations against me.”

Spencer opens his mouth, but Pastor Hopper holds him at bay with an upheld hand. “Miss Swan, I wholeheartedly agree. Please. The floor is yours.”

Closing her eyes, she takes several deep breaths to ready her resolve. Then she turns around and faces the town, hands clasped in front of her. 

She must be meek and reserved. She must stay calm.

She has to get through this.

“Good evening, everyone. You know me as Miss Swan, the schoolteacher here. For several months, many of you have entrusted your children to my care. Every day, they have come to the schoolhouse to study and learn.

“And while there are those,” she glances at Spencer, “who claim I have done nothing to help your children, I know they have come so far since they started their education. Before, they could not read or write. They had never seen numbers or letters before.” 

She smiles at a sudden image in her mind. After the Spencer debacle was over and class was dismissed for the day, a little girl named Bertie came up to her desk. All the other children had left. Saying nothing, the child handed her a drawing of the school and her classmates. It was simple and plain, etched in black charcoal, because the town could not afford colored chalk or ink. Under the drawing were the words “You are a great teacher, Miss Swan.” 

She folded the paper into quarters and slipped it into her pocket. Now, if she ever feels unsure of her goal, she takes the drawing out and looks at it.

Perhaps hope is only born in the midst of the deepest troubles. That is why Pandora’s box had hope. Hope is needed the most in times of hardship.

Her voice gains conviction, and she takes a long look at the many faces in the room. They are questioning, puzzled. Some of the parents must be wondering why she feels the need to defend herself. Others seem warm and open.

Soldier Boy fics rec

First of all, I want to note that I have not watched The Boys in its entirety, only bits and pieces here and there. When season 3 rolled around, I jumped on the Soldier Boy bandwagon, too. I even got a bit obsessed. 🤣 Of course, that means fic recs!

Completed. This fic is hot, sweet, and super sassy (see what I did there?) - such a blast to read and relish. I love the quick banter and fierce love scenes. Y/N becomes an OC in her own right, determined, principled, and forgiving. Soldier Boy is a human supe caught between his old ways and his growing love for Y/N. Can I just say that some parts of the story are like beautiful poetry? Aw, it squeezed my heart! Suspense, romance, drama - this fic has it all. You'll enjoy it as much as I have. 😍

Completed. If you ever hoped Soldier Boy could be redeemed - realistically - this story takes us to that happy place. His journey is tough and gritty, and I love how rooted Y/N is as a character. She is a fleshed-out OC with motivation, purpose, and character growth. Each plot thread is so well thought out! The action and suspense had me on the edge all the time, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Wonderful, wonderful fic! 💪

Completed. Gosh, every chapter moves so fast that you'll be at the end before you know it, wishing for more! I loved the take here, that Soldier Boy had a great love in the past. The ending is bittersweet, and I will post trigger warnings for one particular chapter that broke me. 😔 Loved this! ❤️

Chapter 3

High School teacher Emma Swan had been running late. It seemed she couldn't catch a break. Her beloved car had broken down and forced her to call her roommate Ruby to pick her up and give her a ride once again.

She had been racing against time and it was a race she couldn't possibly win. She'd lost miserably. After this last breakdown, it was inevitable that she would be told to retire her beloved yellow bug. Maybe it was a deathtrap waiting to happen.

She had been so lost in thought she didn't see the anyone coming around the corner until she collided with a very solid body. That had been the best wake-up call she had ever received. Maybe the day was not as bad as she initially thought. The same nice firm body that had brought her back to reality possessed deep blue piercing eyes that met hers, dark hair, luscious lips, and an apologetic, and accented voice.

He was sweet. He had been a gentleman as he helped her. Had they hired a new teacher? She really hoped he was not a student because that was trouble she didn't need. She had felt connected to him in a sense that was unexpected but fulfilling.

Fic Rec: A Decent Proposal by @rileypotter17

Regency AU. In 1811 London, Lady Daenerys Targaryen has everything in her favor for attracting a husband during the Season: a wealthy father, beauty beyond compare, and the respect of the Queen herself. Similarly, Viscount Jorah Mormont would make a suitable husband for any young woman - he is handsome, rich, and accomplished. What do these two have in common? A complete and utter resistance towards marriage. When they meet at the Queen's Ball, they concoct a plan they believe will be mutually beneficial to the both of them - as long as their hearts don't get in the way.

Author appreciation time: Jane Austen and the Regency era have a special place in my heart. And this Jorleesi fic is as vibrant and colorful in my mind as the cover art I made for it. I love this story's energy and enthusiasm, and all the nods to famous literature/movies set in this time period are much appreciated. ❤️ The author has translated all our fave GoT characters into this setting, and it's as if they were always meant to dwell here in Regency England, sipping tea and conspiring away. 🙃 As for Jorleesi... 🔥😍🥰 all of Daenerys's fiery spirit + Jorah's smoldering stoicism, with that passionate heart just beneath the surface of a true gentleman = a romance for the ages. I adore their dynamic here! Highly recommend this fic (AO3 link). ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
