you put anything in a cheap plastic cup with a straw and I'm draining it under 10 minutes. Juice, milk, tea, hell even yogurt, I'll slurp it up.
I tried to replicate this phenomenon with more sustainable containers, such as reusable plastic cups, metal ones and good ol'reliable mugs. Even exclusively drank all my liquids from a margarita glass for a whole week.
But the spark never lasts. It's not as enticing, and the thrill is practically gone. I don't know why or what makes the cheap take out plastic cups so special. Maybe my brain has been puppy trained to associate them with ordering drinks and therefore anything coming out of them must be liquid gold, even as my eyes stood witness to me filling it with tap water.
And I can't just hold one cup ransom, continue to wash and reuse it for eternity; they wither with every refill as the PETE type 1 plastic inside the little triangle stares me into the eyes while leaching toxic waste into my drink until the micro plastics inside my liver are graduated to macro.
I don't indulge in them as much as I want, but with the summer heat I started buying more ice packs and sometimes they come in a cute little cheap plastic cup with a straw for you to make a fun little drink with. Who am I to resist the temptation of fun little drinks?? I'd much rather have an eventful slightly pricey but memorable beverage with a pack of fast noodles for a meal than an actual nutritious or delicious meal.
Food is so tiring, the texture is weird and not all the parts taste the same. Completely unlike the always consistent in density and flavour drinks. You have to chew so much, and if you don't do it enough then you end up choking. Drinks are clearly superior.
